The Johns now have a lake house on Lake Chautauqua in W.N.Y. A large natural lake some 30 miles long.
For the second year in a row – we have gathered there at the invitation of Carol and Mike –
for a long weekend of telling stories – catching up and boating!
We boated for hours and went tubing twice ( yes I did) and loved it!

They were so excited to be able to go to the beach each day – and it was hot – so we decided late afternoon
would be a better time to go – and they played the whole three hours in the surf – riding boogie boards
diving under the waves and getting us nervous as they would inch out farther and farther –
until I would wade out and move them back in.
Being young as they are is a exercise in pure energy – being old as I am – it was a exercise just to stand and brace against the waves!
But – I loved every moment of it.
We did this for five afternoons – on the last night before the parents came – it was mini golf and Italian ice!
I – they – we had enough of facing the big waves and Bode wanted to play as soon as they arrived.
The twins actually ended up liking the mini golf and a lot of laughs on how each one putted the ball.
Both as different as they are but the results were the same.
The beach – we decided the last time for them – we would go to Sunset beach – and they loved it!
As did we – less commercial – more level and the sand more fine.
And it was not as rough as Ocean Isle Beach.
Taylor would stcik more in and closer to us – these two have no fear and are so alike.

Or the hand of her MORMOR ( Swede for MOTHERS MOTHER) she is growing tall – and at 10 – is up to the chin of Sherry – who is tall in her own right.
She is the quiet one of the three – always does what you want and never gives you a rough time.
She is normal size for her age – Taylor has always been bigger – that is why they were early by doctor’s order.
Taylor was taking all the nutrition in the womb – so they had to come out!
They were so tiny – just over three pounds each – but Taylor has maintained that same difference.
Cassidy is a sweet little caring girl who acts like a little mother to Bode – her brother –
but acts more like a twin to Cassidy!
She is a spark plug – so full of energy – natural in sports – cart wheels – over back ward steps –
skate boards – and almost every day face times her MorMor.
But he is growing like Taylor! So sweet and caring – yet very determined – and a little fish in the water.
Cassidy is never far from him – they fight but she watches over him like a mother.
He is going to be a golfer – soccer player like his father,
he is into trucks – machines and bikes.
He almost never wears a jacket or socks and shoes – even in the cold.
He is a natural athelete and every time we visit – at 5:30 in the morning –
he knows I am up and blogging – will come to where I am and climb up in my lap!
“PAPA – can I watch you”? Yes little one you can.

Sherry flew back to NVA to watch the twins in a play and because both parents work – instead of them paying
for a couple weeks at summer camp –
they bought plane tickets instead and she flew back with them for me to pick up!
The parents were coming down the following week anyways for a in law family vacation about a hour South of us.
We spent the day yesterday with them – in the sun and the warm water of the ocean.
But once we seperated the two –
Cassidy and Bode – it was fine.
Taylor – who is only ten years old – will be taller than her MorMor ( Sherry ) who is 5’9″.
I had purchased the tickets for he and I – and while standing in line he said to me –
“Papa – can we get a refund”?
“No” I said.
“PAPA – I am scared – will you hold onto me”?
OF COUSE and I did and he loved it – wanting to go again!

The high light of the ride on the open air top of the bus !
A ride at 45 MPH across the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE –
in the wet FOG !!!!
We were going right along – and it was chilly !
The fog had not lifted –
and there would be a stop
to get off if you wanted too.
The highway was full of palm trees –
Excitement as we neared
And then we were on the bridge
the fog was lifting
but it still was damp and cold !
We had done it –
on top of the World or so it seemed !
Put this on your list of things to do while in San Francisco!
And yes – while on our way to the bridge
twice we saw DRIVER LESS CARS !!!!

The bedroom outfit in each bedroom and all the chairs and couches and kitchen table – end tables – stand for TV and desks in office. Outdoor patio and front porch furniture.
We were worried about beds to sleep in – and we have enough plus our office ( blow up queen mattress to sleep both families) plus we needed storage for clothes and items – by planning with extra drawers and arranging coat closets and linen closets plus the overhead storage in the garage – we have come up with ample space along with oversized night tables and storage shelves under one bed.
And has hung on every wall of every house we have moved into.

We wanted open living – being able to see all who are visiting!
And – we wanted LIGHT – FILLED rooms!
Here is the aforementioned rooms along with parts of the kitchen and breakfast nook!
Beyond the breakfast nook is the covered – screened in lanai.
I spend a lot of time out there with the ceiling fan going!
Seating for four at the island and seating for six at the table with out the extra leaf!
Vaulted ceilings give a feeling of being open and large.
We wanted family to be able to visit – so in the next picture is the Sunroom – with a queen sized pull out sofa!
And we wanted the light to come in from outside!
The patio is directly behind these windows and to the left is the lanai!

This room is where we put pictures of Mount Nebo – the historic 1800’s eight sided Swedish church –
which was built by the Swedes who settled here. It also is the final resting place of her realatives.
There is a copy of a very old map of the town of Mount Jewett – which we just framed but have not hung yet.
And of course the historic Kinzua railraod bridge – constructed in the late 1800’s –
across a valley and over 300 feet high and a mile long – and part of it taken down by a tornado!
This same bridge is where they filmed a episode of the TV series “BIGFOOT”!
This was all territory that belonded to the Seneca Indian tribe before the white man.
The office is to the right and behind that wall in the center. To the right is the hall leading to the garage and laundry room. We choose this model for the open concept and the enclosed office space.

This to me is like a HALLMARK card – so simple yet so carefully drawn of a little girl by a little girl.

I traded for this picture with my brother – Roger – and I rather like it – but the girls always were afraid of it!

The last year we have had to do all our office routines from a table or counter top after selling our home.
We had a home office there – Sherry has a home business – needing a desk top – telephone –
WIFI – INTERNET and storage for files.
Me – I used the downstairs breakfast table and later the kitchen table in the condo as did Sherry.
Actually – I am the middle of the road – independent!
But now – I have space – desk and filing system for my daily blog articles!
She in turn has files – printer – desk – computer – WIFY – internet – our phones – and ROOM!

Our old house was almost 3100 sf. on two floors – we did not need all that room – but still enough for family.
And we wanted in our autumn years – one level – and easy access!
The office is big enough to put a blow up queen mattress on the floor –
The sunroom has a pull out queen sized couch – matress –
and the master bedroom has a twin sized pull out mattress!
The house is just over 1900 heated space with a enclosed – covered screened in lanai.
You actually could put a blow up single on the floor there.
at the time of the build – some we have carried forward – others not – evolving as we grow older.

This day we would later meet up with friends – for we had tickets at the Albama Theater in Barefoot landing –
To see the MOTOWN review straight from Broadway.
But first – I sit on my front porch every early morning – waiting for the sun to peak over the tree line.
When I was growing up and my brother left for college – I moved into his bedroom at the front of the house –
which faced East – every morning I would be awake listening to the birds chirping and then the sun coming through the two front windows of that bedroom.
In all my years since then – I have never lost that feeling of the dawning of a new day!
Buck and Cindy – who now live about 40 minutes away in Magnolia Greens just outside of Leland.
We try to get together once a week to either golf or go to dinner or to a theater.
We plan major trips every couple years – the last one was North California and Reno –
which we took ten days and traveled some 1400 miles covering the entire portion of the state near Sacremento.
We have been to Oahu – Spain – Gilbraltor and Morroco –
We have covered Mass. and Maine –
We did the wine country in Canada and Niagra falls –
a golfing vacation back home in NWPA and WNY!
We are in discussions now of a trip next year but have to wait and see how the year proceeds with Covid.

In part we choose this development because it has a place to walk! Quietly – and not much traffic!
This area was supposed to be developed much like Ocean Ridge across the street –
where the BIG CAT golf courses – four of them – are located.
When the downturn came – this section discontinued development –
somehow – Realstar became involved and is developing Cameron Woods in among all the lots that were previously
sold by the main developer.
For whatever reason – no one is building on them except maybe 8 to 10 houses.
This area is like entering a national forest!
Very interesting – and we have been told – they paid a lot for these properties.
By the end of the year – our section should be completed and all sold out!

The tree is in line with the one in front which is a white Crepe Myrtle – we wanted color in the back.
The lanai – which is screened in – and we will be able to view the two trees from inside.
This tree line is protected and will stay there. Pine straw and flowers are what I plan for this area.
It is a work in progress – planting flowers – we love to plant flowers that return each season.
Much as I did at the old house in NVA!
In my mind I picture a bird bath here and a bird feeder. And on one of those big trees – one of those faces –
with eyes and nose and a smile!
Perhaps larger flowers that come back year to year.

The beach draws her – to let off stress and a quiet place to walk – the sounds of the surf – the warm waters.
Buck and Cindy are our close friends – we moved into a house next to them 36 1/2 years ago –
and had known thenm before that. We get along and enjoy much of the same things.
Cindy is very active as is Sherry – always on the go. They walk together when we are around.
Now – our new home is about 40 minutes away from them.
We try to golf once aweek or go out to a show or dinner.
Here is Bode in front row with the five grandaughters behind him.
She reminds me so much of her father – tall – slim – smile – always on the go and a born entrepreneur
He always was looking for a way to make money and she has that also.
Not afraid to stand up in front of people and talk.
And they played golf just alike!
I became very good friends with him before he passed away – he told me many things promising I would not repeat them. All had to do with the War and I shall keep that promise I made to him.
I repsected him that much – it was a bonding moment for him and me.
She loves our new area – back in NVA she would take dozens of visitors on tour guides into DC.
She is a leader – a natural born one at that!
A place for FAMILY to visit and room to have them.
This is her happy place once again – walking – meeting new neighbors –
exploring and in a area that does not have the freezing ice and snow.
These are but a few of her happy places – places she feels most comfortable in.

As you can also see – we are in the middle of construction of new houses – we are the second to close –
but we have been through this twice before – and the values have already gone up!
This is our third build – in the last 22 years!
Moving South – first to the NVA area – outside of Washington DC – and buying and selling three times –
With twice building from ground up –
has led us here – in Ocean Isle Beach – Cameron Woods – and sitting on our front porch.
We have done major landscaping since this picture was taken – removing the pine straw and replacing it with the black mulch – putting in white – gray stones around the trees in the front yard and large rocks around the lanai.
We have just a few more ideas to formulate – changing a few things and we will be settled!

I am careful where I step – I constantly look ahead – ticks are also abundant here!
If you look real close – you can just see the eyes and nose of this little fellow!
He or she was about 2 1/2 feet long – just a baby – but WHERE WAS MOMMA?

The beach is but 4.5 miles away – shorter if you are a crow!
We live in Cameron Woods – part of Ocean Ridge but across the main highway from it.
We are on the mainland – three miles to the causeway over the ICW!
We actually have a choice of two beaches – for Sunset beach is two miles futher in the opposite direction South!
And if we want to travel – we are 16 miles back to North Myrtle Neach where we have lived the past nine months!
The beach here is different – the sand a darker shade – not as flat and the waves seem to be rougher !
The beach also is not as wide as NMB or as many people!
The water is very warm just like NMB!
And we are finding our way around!
There are music concerts throughout the Summer and into October on Friday nights!
Getting there is a major problem as we tried to attend the free concert and got stuck in a three mile
traffic jam trying to get across the causeway!
So – we truned around and did not go!
We are learning – do not go at the last moment – go early – walk the beach – have dinner and then get the chairs out and pick a space to chill and wait for the music to start!
Both beaches have these concerts on different nights as does NMB!

Try as hard as we can – we can stay even – first nine we lost by one – we pared and they birdied –
they never get into trouble – if one does – the other is in the middle – just consistent –
they are almost always putting for par and when they are on with the putts –
they will beat you!
There are four courses in here and this one – TIGERS EYE is the second one we have golfed on.
This is called the bIG CATS courses – all named after the big cats of the world.
LIONS PAW – PANTHERS RUN – LEOPARDS CHASE and this one TIGERS EYE!
We have fun first – laugh a lot and plan our shots – but – hey – they are tough to beat!
They play the ladies tees as does Buck – I play the senior tees.
You just are careful – looking always for them and watch for snakes in deep grass or wooded area.

When we came down here in late September of 2020 – we had no thought of building a new home.
We simply wanted to check the area out and were interested in the Leland area.
Our friends lived in Magnolia Greens in a golf course community.
We had been visiting them for almost 25 years and loved it there.
But – at that time we had a number in mind and could not find anything to buy.
So – we moved on – to North Myrtle Beach to stay a few months – check out the area and fell in love with it!
The problem then became – while we could find homes in our price range – they all needed updated!
Just not our taste and way to much work to do just that!
We searched for condo’s – but the problem was space and storage and a garage to protect the car.
Then by chance just wandering into a new community and the model – Sherry whispered to me –
I love this concept and want this house!
So – we checked it out and with all the upgrades and getting exactly what we wanted
we were still in our price range!
We would move into N.C. six teen miles from North Myrtle Beach area which gave us a half hour drive back to.
We would be right in the middle of all the golf courses on our first tee card
and almost one half hour closer to our friends in Magnolia greens!
We signed the contract in mid November and completed the sale and closing on July 2nd. 2021.
We are in our happy place – when we go to the beach – it is a eight minute drive with no traffic
and a 15 minute drive to the other beach.
We are but 2 1/2 minutes to three places to buy food – and lots of bars and grills.
Our doctors are twenty minutes away as is the major hospital.
AND GOLF – four courses right across the street!
We made the right choice – we are where we want to be – Sherry – CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH –
can run her home based business from our new office. (that was one requirement we had)

Three hours later desk number one was completed and we headed out to the ICW for her birthday dinner!

Buck and Cindy are our friends – before we all moved – we were neighbors back in WNY.
We moved into a house next to them some 36 1/2 years ago and we knew them before that.
I have always known him as BUCK – never called him Bill.
About 15 years ago – he developed non essential tremors – and had a brain operation – where electric probes were implanted – with out them and the control under his skin on his chest – he would not have any control on his right side – arm and leg. The downside to having this implanted – is with it turned on – he loses his clarity on speech –
and has problems with balance. But – he still can golf and handle himself well – I drive – watch his ball –
and we get a handicap flag that allows us to get near his ball so he does not get so tired out.
He is one of my two best friends – the other Jimmy who I played softball with back in the mid ’70’s.
We all are close friends and Dottie – Jim’s wife – I have known as long as Jim.
The three of us grew up in the same small town of Eldred Pa.
Cindy and Buck grew up in Portville N.Y. just across the border and Sherry grew up in Mount Jewett Pa. aboput 35 miles away.
They are right down the middle and anywhere from 130 to 175 yards!
It makes them tough to beat – I golf from the senior tees – and when I get a good drive – it still is about even with them
as they have a advantage from the ladies tees.
Buck – because of his condition – golfs from the same tees as the ladies –
so a lot of the time we use his ball on the scramble –
He can still hit it almost as far as they can.
We play even up – no strokes – and this time out – after 18 holes – Buck and I lost by one stroke!
Their second shots are like the drives – and close to the green – a chip and one putt for par or worse two putt.
Sherry and I just love to play – get out – fresh air – and a lot of laughs.
Cindy has a traveling shot bar!
If we make a birdie – it is shot time – since we make few of them – she switched it to pars! LOL
They pared – we boggied – missed putt – and that was the difference in the 18 hole match!

It took everything I had to pack this up!
But – I did it!

Taking everythin we could as we will be gone five months!

I promised Sherry I would work it in and I made it happen!
We had to drive 6 1/2 hours to arrive at our friends house
for a surprise birthday party
so I packed with this in mind
and had the back packed so we could remove what we needed
as we were staying six nights!
Our friends are just awesome and welcomed us with open arms.
The back with our golf clubs
we ended up playing three times with them
a total of 45 holes.
Everything here had to come out
and move into their house!
We got our exercise packing and unpacking!
The car top carrier was the first to be packed
as nothing up there would come out
until we arrived at our final destination!

Everymorning – when we wake up – me really early – Sherry – laying in bed to open her eyes and see this.
We – for nine months – have been blessed – staying – walking – listening to the surf – all from this condo.
people sitting in them -a look at the North Myrtle Beach proper – widest beach on the strand – walking –
comfort – the people -we will be back for it is but thirty minute drive for us.
When we return – I sit on the rocking chair on the lanai – or at the table – watching the water fowl –
seeing the huge fish from above and the endless turtles.
The otter that comes to swim and even a snake or two swimming –
No gators have I seen and was told there is none.
Swans come and go and at the far end – three white ducks I have named Huey – Dewey and Lewie.
It has been a memorable nine months – meeting people -having numerous family and friends visit us here.
Walking to the main street and all the live music both outside and inside.
The golf carts – the tourists and the six swimming pool here.

The party was held at the family house in Lake Holiday – Cross Junction Va.
Their father – through the years – developed a phys ed. course for the girls – balance line – zip line –
trampoline – climbing wall – tree house – soccer nets – and in winter a snow board run.
Living out in the country – they were raised to hike – kayak – conoeing – swimming – walking and running.
Over the years he taught them the soccer skills they have – now both older girls play soccer in college.
The younger sister – prefers dance – acting and writing – directing and producing videos.
Her dream is to one day go to NYC!
The three sisters – Ella – 17 years old Maddy – 20 years old Sarah – 14 years old – growing up in nature – camping.

We have gone to Fat Harolds numerous times – we like the beach music – not knowing it was called this!
Back home in the early years of my life – this was just music played on the radio
and on TV when you watched those dance shows!
Had no idea about the SHAG or the way Southern Rock was danced down here.
Funny how you grow up listening to Alabama – Eagles and all the other music of our youth –
and since the ’40’s this was happening right here!
The history of the surf music for almost 80 years
pictures on the wall – the music groups that came through here – famous – only we did not know the why!

They now live just outside of Leesburg Va. about 30 minutes from where we used to live.
Whenever we do go home – we have a bedroom and bath in the basement – along with a suite of other rooms.
There is a walk out to the fenced in back yard.
Out there is a fire pit – huge patio and a pergola – multiple chairs and some rockers and a outdoor table and chairs we left behind.
A Boce court that was there when they bought the house – really beautiful setting!
Now – there is a new addition – MARLEY – the goldendoodle – Tammy’s dog – that she wanted – a big dog to walk!
She has always wanted a dog – but it had to be THE DOG!
The kids love her – Taylor has a way with her as she does with horses!

We were down to our last full day !
So we ventured not East – but to the West –
To the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va.
We were going to relax after three days of non stop touring !
So – we took in Bear Chase Brewery –
on top of a mountain –
with views of Reston – Tyson’s corner –
40 to 50 miles away !
We arrived and only a few people were there!
We have been here on weekends when it is packed
both the brewery and the yards !
There is also a bar opened on the lawn when it is busy
and a menu for food
close by is another brewery and a winery
along with Mt. Weather where it is said
the Vice President was taken on 9 – 11 !
We were going to spend a couple hours just relaxing
and taking in the view

Our home for nine months – 3944 – 3 bedroom – 2 bathroom – kitchen – dining room – living room and a very large screened in Lanai with sliding glass doors from the living room and the master bedroom.

The complex has over 780 individual condo units and town houses – this at one time a golf course called The Old Gator Hole! I think in the mid 2000’s it was sold and made into Ocean Keyes plus two other developments including a plaza with Walmart and Home depot.

We were meant to be!
So – I do not forget her birthday !
All these years – over 40 – she is as beautiful today as she was then.
Kind – smart – caring – giving – awareness – equal rights – compassion – god – church – community – and so on!
She is a one of a kind – a mother – a friend – companion –
We are always walking for health – staying fit – growing healthy into our autumn years.

One of the reason we choose this area to live in – is the number of golf courses available to play!
There are four 18 hole courses right across the road in Ocean Ridge Plantation!
Another 10 to 15 courses within 10 miles or less!
And – our close friends of 30 plus years – a 40 minute drive away.
Our first tee cards which we all have – most f the 32 courses are right here.
We have now played this course twice – but there are three more here that we plan on playing.
Our card cost $100.00 for each of us – but you play three times and it pays for that amount in savings.
There are 32 courses on the card and most price reductions are more that half!
We have a lot of fun and laughs – we try to get out once a week – selecting a different course each time.
It so happened that we had played this course back when we first came down here and it is right by our new home.
Then – during our play we select a place to have dinner – and try to make it with a view –
and not to far to drive – most courses are equal distance for all of us to drive home from.
Sherry and I have been here before and had great meal and service – and it was the same this time!
They had a fishing tournament going on and where wrapping it up!
Two $30,000.00 prizes given out!
We got to watch them cleaning up their fishing boats and then walked over to see the catch –
We had very good food and service – within 15 minutes of sitting down we were eating and the place was packed!
A good day of golf – great friends to share dinner with – and looking forward when we can do this again.

This is the new house – most of the outside is complete – and the inside is almost done.
The floors are all done as is the carpet and tile.
They move pretty fast when they all show up to complete what they have to do!
The text message came yesterday – we are still on schedule for a walk through on 6-22-21 –
which most likely will of happened by the time I post this blog.
We were able to pick what we wanted for the house – as long as there were options.
It is almost done and we are two weeks out to closing which by the time I post this – will of happened.

We decided to walk the new trail at the end of our road before the culdesac.
This winds around the pond and through the woods and back to the pond again.
The new construction area is just over that treeline which is considered a wetland and is protected and will remain that way.
The walk was about 15 minutes long – not quite a mile – but this is only one place to walk –
the other places all together add up to another 3 or 4 miles!
We also could of chosen a lot back in here – but these houses would of been a later closing date.

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –
May be one of the first things we change!
But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –
plus a live oak tree in the front!
I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –
this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –
plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!
We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!
We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!
We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.
We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.
The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.
If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.

There are a lot of golf carts in North Myrtle Beach – and they actually block off this portion of Main Street –
and make it into one big tail gate lot for golf cars – and there is no one way they park.
The are front to back – sides – going in different directions and by the start of the music – jammed in there!
It is here that the OD PAVILION – before it was destroyed in the ’50’s from a hurricane –
The SHAG DANCE started!
HOTO’s also is here as well as the OD TIKI HUT and radio station 94.9 the SURF!
HOTO’s behind the red sign and THE SURF RADIO STATION 94.9 – and the OD TIKI BAR.
The music was good – although in different areas as we walked about – it was better – must be where we sat!
The crowd was big and this the second concert of the season which goes every Thursday night –
till the end of October!
I am happy for the merchants as it has been a long 15 months of the pandemic.
I think the vaccinations plus the number of people who already have had covid19
has brought us closer to herd immunity.

We had planned this for over a month – we would golf on Sunday – at 1:00 PM. but – it was still raining at that time –
So – we did the next best thing – we had a putting contest – in the condo!
We laid out a nine hole course – even a dog leg left – short putts and long putts!
We used clear plastic cups as holes – all you had to do was hit the cup –
and even one hole went from carpet – to regular floor – and if you missed – you rolled way past to the front door!
It came down to Jim and Cindy – tied at end of nine and still tied after extra hole playoff!
Then it was closest to the cup with out going past it.
Jim won by just a couple inches!
The rain slacked off – enough that we decided to go outside and walk to the beach!
The surf was up and large waves!
It was not raining hard and soon let up!
Jim – after a while – went for a swim – it was warm and so was the water – well – a little chilly!
we had a fun day – putting – walking in the rain and then enjoying the beach by ourselves!

We had gone to Crooked Hammock Brewery to taste beer –
and then decided to head over to the newly opened Land Shark to grab a late lunch –
We really like this better than Broadway on the Beach.
There are more places to visit here and sit!
This all sits on top of water on the lake!
We planed to eat and then go to Fat Harold’s to watch Shag dancing later!
This had just opened recently and was our first time here.
It was not as busy as the other place – but had many wide open spaces!

The walls – everywhere you look through out the rooms and bar
are covered with plaques and awards through the years of SHAGGER’S!

in a Hurricane in the 1950’s!

So – we walked – and then we went back and waited for them to arrive!
Our first stop on Saturday afternoon would be Barefoot landing – and Crooked Hammock Brewery –
where the gals would do a flight of four beer tastings.
The guys already knew what beer they wanted!
Sherry has been trying beer and staying away from her Vodka and Tonic!
So she is slowly acquiring the taste as the rest of us drink beer.
Here we are along the ICW – looking at the boats!
NOTE: we normally do not drink – only when we get together with family of friends –
we go weeks on end without – mostly drinking healthy shakes or water
coffee ( me) tea ( Sherry) – I am for the most part a light beer drinker –
I do not like wine much or hard drinks –
Sherry = prefers when she has a drink – a wine of her choice or Vodka and tonic and not many of them.
After the stop at the Brewery – we continued on toward a new place that just opened up –
Called LANDSHARK – where we would have lunch!

Our Condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach – found simply by accident – and now almost nine months later –
We will move out and into our new home – if the closing is on time!
But – here is what we look at each morning – the lake – the wild fowl – the houses – the fountains – trees –
I love the rees!
All or most of the family has come down – Mike and Maddy have not made it here.
The little ones love to explore – play on the playground at Barefoot Landing.
Family is really important to us – and keeping the time to get here manageable!
In our new home it will be six hours for one family and almost seven hours for the other.
They can drive in one day and be here early enough to enjoy!
Family time – beach – exploring – warm weather – new home – new neighborhood.
Sarah wants to act – design – fashion – dance – no sports for her – although I secretly believe she would be awesome – still growing – Ella at 5′ 81/2 ” – I think she will be taller – and Taylor will be tallest of all – only 10 years old!
Family means a great deal to us – even though we are down here – they have visited and we have gone home several times – staying in each family homes with them.

This is all part of the Shenandoah Museum complex in Winchester Va. A hiking trail – through the woods.
The pathway is very wide – I would guess eight feet and all made up with crushed limestone! There are benches to sit on the entire walkway – and areas to sit quietly – a really nice walk and easy on the feet!

The day was uneventful until late afternoon – the sky turned deep gray – and the clouds seemed to be rolling!
A storm was coming!
It was like this in front of the house also – the wind picked up and we could hear thunder in the distance
to the West.
In the distance – sort of pink clouds – but overhead – dark gray!
Lightening began and then the rain came!
The wind picked up – looking out the front window – I could see the major portion of the storm –
coming over the hills toward us – flashes and then the thunder.
The electric went out!
The rain came in hard – beating against the front windows!
The lights came back on!
The thunder continued and flashes of lightening!
The electric went out several times and came back on – the rain got harder – later we learned trees had come down
and one house was struck by lightening out Winchester way and burned down.
We all decided after it calmed down – with no lights but still a little daylight to see –
to just go to bed while we still could see.
Later – the electric came back – I think it was out a couple hours – and then we had to get up and turn lights off!
A eventful first night back at our daughters house in Leesburg Va.

This course sits on the right on Route 17 as you drive South to North Myrtle Beach in N.C.
It always looked so well groomed and made you just want to stop and take a picture!
Well – finally – we played it – with Buck and Cindy – our long time friends.
We try to play once a week with them – either toward there home which will be about 40 miles from our new home-
Or they drive down and stay the night as they did here and we golf the next day.
It is always a scramble – we all hit – and then the gals go to their best ball and the guys do the same.
Then you do it all over again – and they are never in trouble – always down the middle –
and each one hits a good ball off the tee.
Playing the senior tees for us – they have a advantage on their tee box and our drives are about the same.
This course is one that when you play it – you want to come back!
I would rate this one right up with the best ones we have played and it was a nice course!
It was not to my advantage to take pictures as we waited as the group behind could not see what we were seeing with waiting on the other groups.
So – I just relaxed and waited – along with the gals and when we could hit – they hit first and I hit last.
All in all – it turned into a relaxing golf day as no one could go anywhere and we just played the course.
But – I want to return – and by the way – we finally overcame our losing streak – we beat them!
By a total of three strokes over 18 holes!
They are so hard to beat – and if we could putt – well – that would be a big difference!

They have been missing for about five weeks – I would catch a glimpse of them to the left of the lanai
Around the bend and through the shrubs and trees – once in a while
Sometimes I would mistake them for the lone swan –
But then I would see it futher down the lake.
Thought maybe they had a nest and were nesting little ones back in the marsh.
But – there were no babies and the geese have tons of babies –
So – I do not know why they disappeared and seemed to glimpse them every once in a while through the trees.
That part of the lake is undeveloped and is marsh – swamp – trees and water – not the type of place you want to wade
through or even boat in there – at least I wouldn’t!
I was disappointed in no baby swans but happy in that the were back!
They still would have nothing to do with the lone swan.
This is as close as they would let it come!
Then – last week – a man showed up in a small skiff – he comes once in a while to fix the fountains –
the one we see that is close to us in the middle of the lake – gets clogged up and quits –
I have watched him a half dozen times come in and go to it and unclog it!
This time as he was coming down the lake – I watched the two swans take flight –
beating their wings against the water and become airborne –
they circled around and headed over the houses to the left –
There is another lake over there – I think they went there as they were frightened by the man and boat.

I have seen turtles by the hundreds – a otter – some very large fish – a eagle several times -osprey – cranes – herons – egrets – storks –

We decided to walk early – before it gets too hot!
So – we started out and went to the 10th. avenue beach entrance –
the one where they held EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE on the beach which we attended and I wrote a blog about!
Upon walking the walkway to the deck and stairs – we found a new addition!
It was a MAIL BOX with “FELLOW TRAVELER” painted on top!
Inside was a note book – journal – and already half full with notes from FELLOW TRAVELERS!
There also is one at the end of Sunset beach that was in the news –
I had read about it and how it had been there for 40 years!
And the journals are in a historical museum to be preserved!
Many interesting reads and dates – so she added her own!
I think this is a wonderful idea.
We continued our walk onto the beach – with fantastic calming skies!

On their last full day – Bob wanted to play golf – we last played together I would guess 1965 or 1966!
A very long time ago – and he had their clubs in the RV but had not used them all winter.
Pam – who was still recovering from surgery on her heel – would do the driving and Bob rode with me.
They have wintered the last two seasons in their RV – this time it was in Florida.
They made it a point to stop here on their way to family in Nashville before heading home in N.H.
When you play a scramble and her and Cindy hit from the women’s tees – it is good to have them both on your team!
This has become our go to place to take visitors – food is good – and you sit ocean front just yards off the sand.
Many adventures of sleeping out under the stars – roaming the streets after curfew at 10:00 PM.
Nothing bad – raid a garden or two – sneak some beer – campfire – canoe trips down the river –
playing sports together – proms – dances – joining the exployer’s together-
driving – family – both his and mine.

They laugh – cry – hold one another – all the while sharing life together – even though they are 300 miles apart
The bond exists each and every day!
When we decided to move to NVA in 1999 – Tammy decided right away to follow us down to Va.
In one years time – Debby moved with her husband and small one year old daughter Maddy!
They have always been near each other – 3 hours away and no further.
Sherry decided to become a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and start her own business from home –
As a away to supplement her retirement income – it worked and she retired early!
Network marketing – in HEALTH and NUTRITION!
Today – that business thrives and allows us the freedom to travel –
move and build a new home.
In that same since – 15 years ago – Debby decided to do the same – with two young children –
And moving out to the country as it was cheaper to live – she also followed her mothers footsteps!
She became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and started her own business from home –
And surpassed her mother!
Today – they both lead “TEAM GENERATIONS” – promoting health and nutrition for families and children.
During that time – Tammy married – had twin girls and then our first grandson!
She also followed her mother into the Health and Nutrition field – establishing her own home based business.
Along the way she quit her job and opened up a Upscale children’s consignment shop –
And has recently added another home based business – promoting healthy eating!
She now runs three business’s!
And it is because she is her mother’s daughter!
The story of Mother and Daughters – although now 300 miles away – following her in her footsteps –
always in contact – we visit and they visit – zoom – text or call.
Promoting HEALTH and NUTRITION – one child – one day at a time.

Morning sunrise – calm – warm – partial clouds – then blue skies – a start of a beautiful day!
It started out with sunshine and we walked the beach – and the neighborhood –
But – the storm was out there – coming up from the South – West!
We did get all our steps in and had dinner – a beautiful day here in S.C. North Myrtle Beach – Ocean Keyes!
The sky turned from blue to gray – clouds were rolling in – thunder and lightening!
The wind picked up – Sherry started to go out the front door – the side of the condo the storm was coming from!
She had a hard time holding the door so she closed it!
This was the first real storm in the day light we have had since being here!
I have to admit – it got a little bit scary!
The wind just whipped the rain almost sideways!
I do like a good storm to fall asleep with – lightening – thunder and rain – but can do without the wind!

They adore Sherry – whom they call MorMor – Swede for Mothers Mother!
When we walk with all three – it usually is Taylor who loses out to the other two in holding her hands.
This time it was Cassidy – who with each passing day – is becoming more and more independent.
They are twins – but had to come early as Taylor was taking all the nutrients.
Taylor is going to be really tall – close to six foot while Cassidy will be like her mother 5’6″.
Taylor loves to ride horses – Cassidy has a variety of interests –
but will sit for hours drawing off her computer and is really good!
We moved south to find more time to golf – warmer weather and being close to our friends!
They moved about 25 or 26 years to the Wilmington N.C. area – and we would spend time with them once or twice a year.
Then we moved to NVA and they would do the same.
Now – we are building a new home about 40 miles away from them –
and if the weather is nice – we golf once a week with them –
always on a new course – could be on the weekend or a week day.
They can and do stay with us and we do the same with them.
If our new home is not done on time and we have to give up the condo – they have offered us a place to stay.
FRIENDS! GOOD TIMES! LAUGHS!
We both have a love to golf – one of Sherry’s highlights in golfing came with the day she broke 50 –
and it was a day she was golfing with her father!
A memory she shall always carry with her on the course. Now – she beats me! LOL
I see it each morning also – but I always am up before the dawn – have been that way all my life.
My favorite time of the day – writing my blog – sipping my coffee and watching the sun rise –
listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoying morning time.
A memory we shall carry forward into the new home.
You can hear the pounding surf a half mile away –
We walk there almost every day –
the water fowl – geese – ducks – mallards – swans – otter – turtles – snakes
and really huge fish we can see when we look down onto the water.
Storms blowing in and out – rain and wind – nature at its best.
But – they were way too expensive – and the condos here – not enough space and no garage.
We have a storage unit – not a lot – but enough so that it would not fit.
The town houses here besides the condo’s – were out of our price range –
plus the one we looked at – needed a lot of work.
This is a beautiful area – one I shall remember –
We were blessed to have spent time here – but it also was expensive!
