The complex has over 780 individual condo units and town houses – this at one time a golf course called The Old Gator Hole! I think in the mid 2000’s it was sold and made into Ocean Keyes plus two other developments including a plaza with Walmart and Home depot.

and it is a inkling to what is inside the fence!

We were meant to be!
So – I do not forget her birthday !
All these years – over 40 – she is as beautiful today as she was then.
Kind – smart – caring – giving – awareness – equal rights – compassion – god – church – community – and so on!
She is a one of a kind – a mother – a friend – companion –
We are always walking for health – staying fit – growing healthy into our autumn years.

One of the reason we choose this area to live in – is the number of golf courses available to play!
There are four 18 hole courses right across the road in Ocean Ridge Plantation!
Another 10 to 15 courses within 10 miles or less!
And – our close friends of 30 plus years – a 40 minute drive away.
Our first tee cards which we all have – most f the 32 courses are right here.
We have now played this course twice – but there are three more here that we plan on playing.
Our card cost $100.00 for each of us – but you play three times and it pays for that amount in savings.
There are 32 courses on the card and most price reductions are more that half!
We have a lot of fun and laughs – we try to get out once a week – selecting a different course each time.
It so happened that we had played this course back when we first came down here and it is right by our new home.
Then – during our play we select a place to have dinner – and try to make it with a view –
and not to far to drive – most courses are equal distance for all of us to drive home from.
Sherry and I have been here before and had great meal and service – and it was the same this time!
They had a fishing tournament going on and where wrapping it up!
Two $30,000.00 prizes given out!
We got to watch them cleaning up their fishing boats and then walked over to see the catch –
We had very good food and service – within 15 minutes of sitting down we were eating and the place was packed!
A good day of golf – great friends to share dinner with – and looking forward when we can do this again.

This is the new house – most of the outside is complete – and the inside is almost done.
The floors are all done as is the carpet and tile.
They move pretty fast when they all show up to complete what they have to do!
The text message came yesterday – we are still on schedule for a walk through on 6-22-21 –
which most likely will of happened by the time I post this blog.
We were able to pick what we wanted for the house – as long as there were options.
It is almost done and we are two weeks out to closing which by the time I post this – will of happened.

We decided to walk the new trail at the end of our road before the culdesac.
This winds around the pond and through the woods and back to the pond again.
The new construction area is just over that treeline which is considered a wetland and is protected and will remain that way.
The walk was about 15 minutes long – not quite a mile – but this is only one place to walk –
the other places all together add up to another 3 or 4 miles!
We also could of chosen a lot back in here – but these houses would of been a later closing date.

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –
May be one of the first things we change!
But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –
plus a live oak tree in the front!
I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –
this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –
plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!
We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!
We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!
We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.
We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.
The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.
If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.

There are a lot of golf carts in North Myrtle Beach – and they actually block off this portion of Main Street –
and make it into one big tail gate lot for golf cars – and there is no one way they park.
The are front to back – sides – going in different directions and by the start of the music – jammed in there!
It is here that the OD PAVILION – before it was destroyed in the ’50’s from a hurricane –
The SHAG DANCE started!
HOTO’s also is here as well as the OD TIKI HUT and radio station 94.9 the SURF!
HOTO’s behind the red sign and THE SURF RADIO STATION 94.9 – and the OD TIKI BAR.
The music was good – although in different areas as we walked about – it was better – must be where we sat!
The crowd was big and this the second concert of the season which goes every Thursday night –
till the end of October!
I am happy for the merchants as it has been a long 15 months of the pandemic.
I think the vaccinations plus the number of people who already have had covid19
has brought us closer to herd immunity.

We had planned this for over a month – we would golf on Sunday – at 1:00 PM. but – it was still raining at that time –
So – we did the next best thing – we had a putting contest – in the condo!
We laid out a nine hole course – even a dog leg left – short putts and long putts!
We used clear plastic cups as holes – all you had to do was hit the cup –
and even one hole went from carpet – to regular floor – and if you missed – you rolled way past to the front door!
It came down to Jim and Cindy – tied at end of nine and still tied after extra hole playoff!
Then it was closest to the cup with out going past it.
Jim won by just a couple inches!
The rain slacked off – enough that we decided to go outside and walk to the beach!
The surf was up and large waves!
It was not raining hard and soon let up!
Jim – after a while – went for a swim – it was warm and so was the water – well – a little chilly!
we had a fun day – putting – walking in the rain and then enjoying the beach by ourselves!

We had gone to Crooked Hammock Brewery to taste beer –
and then decided to head over to the newly opened Land Shark to grab a late lunch –
We really like this better than Broadway on the Beach.
There are more places to visit here and sit!
This all sits on top of water on the lake!
We planed to eat and then go to Fat Harold’s to watch Shag dancing later!
This had just opened recently and was our first time here.
It was not as busy as the other place – but had many wide open spaces!

Later – we stopped in at Fat Harold’s to watch SHAG DANCING on the BLVD!
The walls – everywhere you look through out the rooms and bar
are covered with plaques and awards through the years of SHAGGER’S!
The picture behind Sherry represents the original shag clubs since the 1940’s which were destroyed
in a Hurricane in the 1950’s!

So – we walked – and then we went back and waited for them to arrive!
Our first stop on Saturday afternoon would be Barefoot landing – and Crooked Hammock Brewery –
where the gals would do a flight of four beer tastings.
The guys already knew what beer they wanted!
Sherry has been trying beer and staying away from her Vodka and Tonic!
So she is slowly acquiring the taste as the rest of us drink beer.
Here we are along the ICW – looking at the boats!
NOTE: we normally do not drink – only when we get together with family of friends –
we go weeks on end without – mostly drinking healthy shakes or water
coffee ( me) tea ( Sherry) – I am for the most part a light beer drinker –
I do not like wine much or hard drinks –
Sherry = prefers when she has a drink – a wine of her choice or Vodka and tonic and not many of them.
After the stop at the Brewery – we continued on toward a new place that just opened up –
Called LANDSHARK – where we would have lunch!

Our Condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach – found simply by accident – and now almost nine months later –
We will move out and into our new home – if the closing is on time!
But – here is what we look at each morning – the lake – the wild fowl – the houses – the fountains – trees –
I love the rees!
All or most of the family has come down – Mike and Maddy have not made it here.
The little ones love to explore – play on the playground at Barefoot Landing.
Family is really important to us – and keeping the time to get here manageable!
In our new home it will be six hours for one family and almost seven hours for the other.
They can drive in one day and be here early enough to enjoy!
Family time – beach – exploring – warm weather – new home – new neighborhood.
Sarah wants to act – design – fashion – dance – no sports for her – although I secretly believe she would be awesome – still growing – Ella at 5′ 81/2 ” – I think she will be taller – and Taylor will be tallest of all – only 10 years old!
Family means a great deal to us – even though we are down here – they have visited and we have gone home several times – staying in each family homes with them.

This is all part of the Shenandoah Museum complex in Winchester Va. A hiking trail – through the woods.
The pathway is very wide – I would guess eight feet and all made up with crushed limestone! There are benches to sit on the entire walkway – and areas to sit quietly – a really nice walk and easy on the feet!

The day was uneventful until late afternoon – the sky turned deep gray – and the clouds seemed to be rolling!
A storm was coming!
It was like this in front of the house also – the wind picked up and we could hear thunder in the distance
to the West.
In the distance – sort of pink clouds – but overhead – dark gray!
Lightening began and then the rain came!
The wind picked up – looking out the front window – I could see the major portion of the storm –
coming over the hills toward us – flashes and then the thunder.
The electric went out!
The rain came in hard – beating against the front windows!
The lights came back on!
The thunder continued and flashes of lightening!
The electric went out several times and came back on – the rain got harder – later we learned trees had come down
and one house was struck by lightening out Winchester way and burned down.
We all decided after it calmed down – with no lights but still a little daylight to see –
to just go to bed while we still could see.
Later – the electric came back – I think it was out a couple hours – and then we had to get up and turn lights off!
A eventful first night back at our daughters house in Leesburg Va.

This course sits on the right on Route 17 as you drive South to North Myrtle Beach in N.C.
It always looked so well groomed and made you just want to stop and take a picture!
Well – finally – we played it – with Buck and Cindy – our long time friends.
We try to play once a week with them – either toward there home which will be about 40 miles from our new home-
Or they drive down and stay the night as they did here and we golf the next day.
It is always a scramble – we all hit – and then the gals go to their best ball and the guys do the same.
Then you do it all over again – and they are never in trouble – always down the middle –
and each one hits a good ball off the tee.
Playing the senior tees for us – they have a advantage on their tee box and our drives are about the same.
This course is one that when you play it – you want to come back!
I would rate this one right up with the best ones we have played and it was a nice course!
It was not to my advantage to take pictures as we waited as the group behind could not see what we were seeing with waiting on the other groups.
So – I just relaxed and waited – along with the gals and when we could hit – they hit first and I hit last.
All in all – it turned into a relaxing golf day as no one could go anywhere and we just played the course.
But – I want to return – and by the way – we finally overcame our losing streak – we beat them!
By a total of three strokes over 18 holes!
They are so hard to beat – and if we could putt – well – that would be a big difference!

Beautiful course that we wanted to play – I did not know it was divided onto two states
until after a couple holes there was a WELCOME TO N.C. sign on the cart path!

but it is unique in that you play two states!

They have been missing for about five weeks – I would catch a glimpse of them to the left of the lanai
Around the bend and through the shrubs and trees – once in a while
Sometimes I would mistake them for the lone swan –
But then I would see it futher down the lake.
Thought maybe they had a nest and were nesting little ones back in the marsh.
But – there were no babies and the geese have tons of babies –
So – I do not know why they disappeared and seemed to glimpse them every once in a while through the trees.
That part of the lake is undeveloped and is marsh – swamp – trees and water – not the type of place you want to wade
through or even boat in there – at least I wouldn’t!
I was disappointed in no baby swans but happy in that the were back!
They still would have nothing to do with the lone swan.
This is as close as they would let it come!
Then – last week – a man showed up in a small skiff – he comes once in a while to fix the fountains –
the one we see that is close to us in the middle of the lake – gets clogged up and quits –
I have watched him a half dozen times come in and go to it and unclog it!
This time as he was coming down the lake – I watched the two swans take flight –
beating their wings against the water and become airborne –
they circled around and headed over the houses to the left –
There is another lake over there – I think they went there as they were frightened by the man and boat.

I have seen turtles by the hundreds – a otter – some very large fish – a eagle several times -osprey – cranes – herons – egrets – storks –

We decided to walk early – before it gets too hot!
So – we started out and went to the 10th. avenue beach entrance –
the one where they held EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE on the beach which we attended and I wrote a blog about!
Upon walking the walkway to the deck and stairs – we found a new addition!
It was a MAIL BOX with “FELLOW TRAVELER” painted on top!
Inside was a note book – journal – and already half full with notes from FELLOW TRAVELERS!
There also is one at the end of Sunset beach that was in the news –
I had read about it and how it had been there for 40 years!
And the journals are in a historical museum to be preserved!
Many interesting reads and dates – so she added her own!
I think this is a wonderful idea.
We continued our walk onto the beach – with fantastic calming skies!

On their last full day – Bob wanted to play golf – we last played together I would guess 1965 or 1966!
A very long time ago – and he had their clubs in the RV but had not used them all winter.
Pam – who was still recovering from surgery on her heel – would do the driving and Bob rode with me.
They have wintered the last two seasons in their RV – this time it was in Florida.
They made it a point to stop here on their way to family in Nashville before heading home in N.H.
When you play a scramble and her and Cindy hit from the women’s tees – it is good to have them both on your team!
This has become our go to place to take visitors – food is good – and you sit ocean front just yards off the sand.
Many adventures of sleeping out under the stars – roaming the streets after curfew at 10:00 PM.
Nothing bad – raid a garden or two – sneak some beer – campfire – canoe trips down the river –
playing sports together – proms – dances – joining the exployer’s together-
driving – family – both his and mine.

And surpassed her mother!
Today – they both lead “TEAM GENERATIONS” – promoting health and nutrition for families and children.
During that time – Tammy married – had twin girls and then our first grandson!

Along the way she quit her job and opened up a Upscale children’s consignment shop –

And it is because she is her mother’s daughter!

Morning sunrise – calm – warm – partial clouds – then blue skies – a start of a beautiful day!
It started out with sunshine and we walked the beach – and the neighborhood –
But – the storm was out there – coming up from the South – West!
We did get all our steps in and had dinner – a beautiful day here in S.C. North Myrtle Beach – Ocean Keyes!
The sky turned from blue to gray – clouds were rolling in – thunder and lightening!
The wind picked up – Sherry started to go out the front door – the side of the condo the storm was coming from!
She had a hard time holding the door so she closed it!
This was the first real storm in the day light we have had since being here!
I have to admit – it got a little bit scary!
The wind just whipped the rain almost sideways!
I do like a good storm to fall asleep with – lightening – thunder and rain – but can do without the wind!

When we walk with all three – it usually is Taylor who loses out to the other two in holding her hands.
This time it was Cassidy – who with each passing day – is becoming more and more independent.
They are twins – but had to come early as Taylor was taking all the nutrients.
Taylor is going to be really tall – close to six foot while Cassidy will be like her mother 5’6″.
Taylor loves to ride horses – Cassidy has a variety of interests –
but will sit for hours drawing off her computer and is really good!
We moved south to find more time to golf – warmer weather and being close to our friends!
They moved about 25 or 26 years to the Wilmington N.C. area – and we would spend time with them once or twice a year.
Then we moved to NVA and they would do the same.
Now – we are building a new home about 40 miles away from them –
and if the weather is nice – we golf once a week with them –
always on a new course – could be on the weekend or a week day.
They can and do stay with us and we do the same with them.
If our new home is not done on time and we have to give up the condo – they have offered us a place to stay.
FRIENDS! GOOD TIMES! LAUGHS!
We both have a love to golf – one of Sherry’s highlights in golfing came with the day she broke 50 –
and it was a day she was golfing with her father!
A memory she shall always carry with her on the course. Now – she beats me! LOL
I see it each morning also – but I always am up before the dawn – have been that way all my life.
My favorite time of the day – writing my blog – sipping my coffee and watching the sun rise –
listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoying morning time.
A memory we shall carry forward into the new home.
You can hear the pounding surf a half mile away –
We walk there almost every day –
the water fowl – geese – ducks – mallards – swans – otter – turtles – snakes
and really huge fish we can see when we look down onto the water.
Storms blowing in and out – rain and wind – nature at its best.
But – they were way too expensive – and the condos here – not enough space and no garage.
We have a storage unit – not a lot – but enough so that it would not fit.
The town houses here besides the condo’s – were out of our price range –
plus the one we looked at – needed a lot of work.
This is a beautiful area – one I shall remember –
We were blessed to have spent time here – but it also was expensive!

We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!
Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.
Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.
It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.
It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –
lots of sunshine and very good friends!
Game on – girls vs boys!
They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!
We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!
We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!
Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!
Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.

We had no idea we would end up in North Myrtle Neach.
My friend would ask me WHY we choose there?
Well – the best answer I can give is I came across this condo –
on a site that listed houses and condos for sale!
I expanded the search area and this picture or one like it – came into view!
I showed it to Sherry and we decided right there and then we would rent it!
First – for three months – then we extended it to five months –
all because we looked and looked and decided it was just as good to build –
as it was to buy! We could have what we wanted and not upgrade someone’s home!
So – we made our choice in Cameron Woods – across the border into N.C.
It would be a brand new build and we set about making our selections –
and at that time we extended our lease until the end of June!
Which would be a total of nine months!
We tried very hard to stay in this area – but cost and being too close to the Ocean
played a big part in where we ended up!
We can drive one half hour back here to North Myrtle Beach.
We are in a new development – and right in the middle of a dozen golf courses!
We are in the country but a mile and one half to a gas station and a couple miles to a Publix!
In November we signed our contract and made all our selections.
We are on schedule for a early June closing!

On our way back home to NVA – we stopped in Lynchburg to watch Maddy –
Our oldest granddaughter – play soccer!
She starts as a Sophomore – and plays for the University of Lynchburg.
One thing she wanted to do – to get out in the fresh air and hike with her family!
Which we did on this paved trail that runs along the river in Lynchburg Va.
One of our very first visitors after we moved to Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach –
was the father and mother of our son in law – Marcus.
They came down and spent four days with us – playing cards – walking the beach –
and introducing us to a new game called RUMMIKUBE!
We have always gotten along with them and every Sunday – sat beside them in the pew!
Debby and the two granddaughters came for a short visit –
and we took them hiking – which they love to do – at Vareens memorial Garden.
Walking along the ICW and over the marsh.
They will be back as we took them also to the new house build!
Mike and Carol – we lived next door to them – invited us and our friends – we have all been friends for years-
to their lake house in WNY -Lake Chatauqua – for a long weekend of riding the lake in their beautiful boat!
They have extended another invitation for this August – the same group – for four days!
They own a business that sends crews to do commercial painting all over the East Coast
and this year are expanding to the mid west.
Mike – started this when he was very young — and what a company he has turned it into!

In this picture – my friends of the last 36 years for Buck and 40 plus hears for Jimmy!
Jimmy and I worked together and played softball together in the mid to late ’70’s!
In the back ground across the pond on this hole in Magnolia Greens –
sits Buck and Cindy’s new home they built a couple years ago!
I really like this area and would of moved here if we could of found something
like this and in our price range.
Friends and golfing buddies – MEMORIES!
Dottie – Jimmy’s wife and Cindy – Bucks wife – all these years still getting together!
We all moved away from our home town areas.
Yet – at least twice a year we manage to get together –
here we are at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach!
Speak no evil – see on evil and hear no evil!
In the last 16 months – sometimes we struggled to balance social distancing –
and that was very true with family.
Sitting in our garage while the three little ones sat on a tarp in the lawn at the end of the driveway.
Or visiting them standing outside and little Bode hiding behind his parents peaking out at us!
That broke my heart.
But – we have come a long ways on this – we did stay with family after we sold our house
at the end of June last year!
Family is important and we have been tested twice and so have they!
PAPA – can I sit on your lap!
This is at 5:45 am. – while I am writing my blog!
He knows I wake up early and down he comes- when we are not here – he sleeps in!
Last week he asked me on a kids message –
he had called me – “PAPA – WHEN WILL WE SEE YOU AGAIN”?
I tear up when he talks to me like that!
Here we are having lunch after they drove 6 hours – at Crooked Hammock at Barefoot Landing!
They spent all weekend and until Friday of the following week with us!
This made us very happy as they got to see where we are and where we are building our house.
They now know it is but a six hour drive for them to visit!

I knew both before I met Sherry – Freddie and I went to 7th. grade thru 12th. grade.
We met at a place that was half way to where they live in Florida and to where we were staying!
Great time with old friends. MEMORIES!
We traveled before the Pandemic – meeting friends along the way.
And – – we were careful – as were some more friends we met.
Bobby and I go back to grade school – friends for life.
Sports – a few drinks – camping out – running the streets – never anything destructive – just boy hood memories.
By the time this blog posts – Pam and Bob will stop in on there way back to New England.
They have a drive RV towing a car.
We are all safe – testing and vaccinations.( except Sherry who is allergic to the vaccine)
It will be good to once again relive memories – Freddie – Bobbie and I had growing up!
Fourteen years we attended services there.
John and Nancy moved to Charleston about a year before we moved.
On our way back from Florida – just before the Pandemic – we stopped in and stayed – regaling in memories.
They gave us a walking tour of Charleston’s waterfront and historic district.
A few months after we moved to Myrtle Beach area – we met halfway in Georgetown S.C.
And – about a month or so ago – they visited us at the condo.
Friends – MEMORIES!

We were on our way back to the air BNB – looking for a place to stop and eat and we found this little gem.
I can not remember the name but it had the flag of the British hanging outside.
It – was very cool and the food was good.
After we returned home in March – the Pandemic hit.
A few months later – we met our friends in the open air seated more than six feet apart.
Ordered lunch from one of the places to eat for pick up.
And in the middle of the common area ice skating rink – enjoyed ourselves.
Old friends – who live in Az. visited us for a week and we showed them NVA and Washington DC.
When we had gone out there for a conference – after it was over – they picked us up and we went to Sedona.
We also went back to their home and they showed us around Tucson.
It was a great week filled with a lot of historical sites!

Eating healthy has become a way of life for us going on almost 16 years!
In that time I have learned how to BAKE rather than fry!
I have learned low carbs – no gluten – low sugars – and GMO’s.
My life is far different than all those years gone by.
I WATCH WHAT I EAT!
I have learned over these past 15 plus years.
I take it very seriously!
Living each day – I have to stay away from sugars as I am borderline diabetic.
I watch carbs more so that calories – carbs put the weight on me and turn to sugars.
We purchase from this company what we eat for health reasons.
Have been doing this for almost 16 years!
And – the taste – for me – is excellent.
Life is hard – food – not healthy food – is everywhere!
Commercial after commercial – radio or TV – is constant.
Billboards – advertisements – packaging!
Everywhere you look or hear is processed food.
And when not doing our taxes – she makes healthy treats!
Our lives changed almost 16 years ago – she became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH –
through the known children’s doctor – Dr. William Sears – author of 40 children’s books.
Health has become our lives.

TEAM GENERATIONS: Helping one child a day to eat healthy with fruits – veggies and berries.
I actually believe these 27 holes compare to the best in the area including Myrtle Beach!
On this day – the flowers were in full bloom and reminded me of Augusta!
We have played this course many times over the years!
They have called this home for at least twenty years.
Having bought and sold and built here many times.
This is the main reason we came South to this general area.
Our new home will be about 40 minutes away –
so daily golf is available!
This is the second home they have built here – both in this water area and both had like views –
only this one is downsized from the other one.
We – Buck and I – did our usual scramble – and we had a record for us – we shot a 39 with a double boogie the last hole!

HEALTH and NUTRITION fruits – vegetables – berries – omegas in a capsule.
Each one holds a special place in our hearts – the first where we were married –
the second where we found a home and friends.
And now the journey begins – another one near our new home.
Right now – this is our future choice – Saint Lukes Lutheran Church
in Ocean Isle Beach right on route 17.
We have to call to be put on the list each Sunday – because of covid restrictions.
But – we were welcomed and social distancing practiced.
Time will tell if we have found a new place to worship –
one that is but 4 plus miles from our new house being built,
Our first time inside the roof and walls of a place of worship in over 13 months.
We left the service and drove to the new house build –
The windows and doors are all installed – the roof is done and almost all the siding and outside trim is done.
Driving up – the beautiful stacked stone is all done!
I have always loved front porches – we had a large one as I was growing up –
I would spend hours on it watching the cars go by with my mother –
Talking to people as they walked by – everyone knew “MARY”
and would call out to her or honk their horns –
I am most like her in tat way!
Our thoughts on this – have shelves with towels as the outside water bib is just to the left of the corner.
That way – when coming back from the beach – a place to wash off the sand!
Second thoughts we have discussed – putting a enclosed white vinyl fence with a gate –
And a tank less water heater – for a place to shower – as a third shower for the house if we have lots of company!
I have seen them all over down here – really nice with a place to sit and a place to hang clothes and towels!
On our wish list along with taking the screens out of the enclosed covered patio and glass it in with sliding windows!
It has been a adventure these past six plus months.
Building a new home – and moving South!
But – the electric is done as is the plumbing – they are starting the insulation and then the dry wall.
We are excited – and ready to move in and begin out next phase of our new chapter.
Going to miss our view – but we will have pictures and memories!

We started off in the rain – but the forecast said it would move on out –
and the sun and warmth would be there!
AND THAT IS JUST WHAT IT DID!
One of the views – we had to cross over here – but it was not a busy road.
We played well – Buck and I – enough so that they beat us by one stroke the first nine and we won by three stokes the back nine. Do not be fooled by how close they made it – they are always right down the middle and second shot is either on the green or close to it! They are good when in a scramble!
We bought what is called the first tee card – we all have them and it allows us to play over 32 courses
at reduced rates – all are on the N.C. side of the border – and our new house is right in the middle!
I did not like this tee box as it was like a practice mat.
The only part of the whole course that they did this on.
You could not put a tee in – only if you found a seam.
It was a fun day – and because it was cart path only –
it took us five hours to play and we did not finish up until 6:00 PM.
But – we finally beat them on the back nine by three strokes and it was hard doing that!

But – this is the beginning of the week for Spring Breakers –
and we noticed traffic getting heavey.
We have found our way around and avoid the high traffic on rte. 17!
We take the side streets as far as we can – and one side street takes up to where we can shop!
Being here is still our dream – we will come back often as we like it here –
but also where we are moving too – no traffic – country quiet – we can walk –
and still be in access to the other two beaches!

We had stopped here over the weekend – as we have driven by it hundreds of times!
Two entrances and finally I just turned in and followed the road for about a mile.
What we found out later – was this is the longest course in S.C.
and maybe the longest I have EVER played!
The back tee box – if you play that – the course is over 8200 yards long!
There are many marsh areas such as this – did not see any snakes or gators!
We were teamed up with a father & son.
We introduced ourselves – we had not planned on playing with anyone.
But – after the first hole awkwardness
It turned into a fun day!
I had watched my wife and how she was hitting.
I noted that she was doing everything right except two things!
I told her to tee her ball up a little back in her stance –
and to always tee it up the same height.
She was coming over the top on her ball – still hitting it good but not as far as she has.
And – I might add – she beat me by FIVE STROKES on the front nine!
So much for me showing her what to do! LOL!
Just a word to our friends – Cindy and Buck – the ladies have to give us strokes from now on! LOL
They are just too darn good!

We knew Ocean Isle Beach was a eight minute drive from the new house- without heavy traffic.
Now – it was time to see just how far the other beach – Sunset Beach – was from the new house.
So – we drove and it was 13 minutes!
About five minutes longer in no traffic!
So – there you are – two beaches to choose from – and if we want – we can go back to NMB –
some 30 minutes away – with no traffic.
We checked out the parking as we understand that in the busy part – this could determine where we go!
They have pay parking – which you can pay a set price for the year –
and – like the other beach – off the road parking –
but we were told to be careful on that – if you do not do it right –
like blocking the bike path or sidewalk –
you will get a fine!
It was a very windy day on the sand – so we decided not to walk the beach –
but rather see where we can walk among the streets and houses.
We did find a path to walk – while not going on the sand –
and could see we could easily get our three mile walk in!

We went in the dark – at 6:15 AM. and was surprised at all the cars and activity.
This was but one of several services up and down the beach.
ELCA – which we are a member of – along with the Episcopal church –
Came together to have this service.
I would guess by the start – some 4 to 5 hundred souls gathered on the beach-
many standing – others brought their own chairs
At last – in more than a year – we attended a live service.
All our married lives – we have attended church – me – I converted from Catholic to Lutheran
which was how Sherry was raised.
They were mostly silent – a few murmurs here and there – ushers directing people – passing out communion cups and wafers – a few announcements – still cold – but at least there was no wind. The sound of the surf – the seagulls – the stillness of the early morning hour – the sand cold – bundled up – ear muffs and scarf – waiting – waiting – waiting.

And here in North Myrtle Beach is a place called ALLIGATOR ADVENTURE!
There are hundreds of the reptiles in there!
The biggest being 20 feet long and weighing 2000 lbs. !
They got to watch the feeding – I wonder how they feed all these alligators and how they make sure all get fed!
They have other animals – birds and snakes!

The Krohn family and Sherry – granddaughters – daughter and son in law.
They have visited for almost a week.
The weather – bearable – low 60’s to low 70’s but with chilly wind.
He has pretty good form and Marcus is getting him lessons.
He is only six years old and I think the highlight for him is driving the golf cart! LOL
I told Marcus – you need to get him lessons plus doing cross country
He almost ran the whole golf course!
They walked to the beach every day.
Most days I would drive the car down as we had all the chairs and beach stuff!
Some days – as in this picture – we all walked carrying the “STUFF”!
Yesterday was a full beach day – warm – sun – and kids in the water!
Too cold for me – but in the sun – hot!
Taylor – Cassidy and Bode – notice how Cassidy takes care of Bode!
Such a protective little girl – a heart of warmth!

One of the first things Sherry did for the little ones after they had a good nights sleep-
Was to color Easter Eggs!
So – she hard boiled the eggs – set up on the Lanai – and they got to it!
This has been a tradition with MorMor – as they call her -Swede for Mothers Mother!
She has done this even before Bode – who is six was born!
Afterward – things were washed up and packed for Tammy to take back to NVA!
I think Cassidy and Bode should of been the twins!
They are so much alike and act the same.
It is hard for me to tell the difference if I am not looking at them – to see who is talking!
Now – Bode is going to be tall like Taylor – who is so laid back!
She likes her “TAYLOR” time!
She also is going to be the tallest of the granddaughters
With Maddy being 5′ 6″ – Ella 5′ 8 1/2 ” and Sarah pushing Ella at 14 years old!
We had taken them there before and the little ones love the playground!
Then it was time for a late lunch – our reservations were ready!

They all came this time – for almost a week’s stay –
Tammy and the little ones had come down for a long weekend
Now – it was Marcus time to see where we would be living!
Here we are on the ICW at Barefoot Landing!
We had met them here instead of the condo – for we knew the little ones would be hungry –
they had left NVA at 5:09 AM. and we were standing in the Parking lot at a little before noon –
Less that seven hours!
And we told them – it would be 45 minutes fewer that that at the new house!
Our goal was to keep the time traveled to less than seven hours
and for both sets of family’s it will be that!
The above picture is for both family’s as they love the tradition at Christmas time!
We planned to have a late lunch and early dinner at the new brewery
CROOKED HAMMOCK BREWERY – that had opened up a couple weeks earlier
outdoors – and they -Marcus and Tammy loved the draft beer!
Family is and has been important to us – both daughters followed us to NVA.
One was married with a small child ( Maddy)
And one met her future husband in NVA.
Walking to the beach – these two will one day be so tall – here she is 10 years old and he is 6 years old.
Sherry – a Swede – is 5′ 9″ tall!

Ever since I had my Heart attack some 7 1/2 years ago –
I get chilled very easy – even before I did not like the snow – ice and cold!
But – the families seem to like it – skiing – snowboarding and playing in the snow!
Where we had wine – snacks and a fire in a fire pit.
The pit was free and offered by the winery!
I bundled up and made it through -but by the end I was cold!
I have to admit – it was unique – but I very seldom drink wine –
I just can not get into the dry wines!
Now – a sweeter wine I can sip on!
What a difference 3 weeks make!
From snow and cold to sand and somewhat warm!
I am not shoveling snow – I can layer up and walk the beach!
School break – and a quick trip down – Marcus could not get away.
The first thing they wanted to see – THE BEACH!
The little ones love the beach – sand and water.
And then we took them for a walk along the ICW at Barefoot Landing!
Watching the boats traveling up and down –
and seeing the boats in the marina – where a lot of people are living on the boats there!

We called her “TINY” as she was growing up –
Her father came up with that nickname –
Today she stands 5′ 8 1/2 ” –
Our little girl is all grown up!
She endured two injuries during her Middle school and H.S.
Both were broken bones in her feet.
One she was stepped on with a cleat
and the other she just landed wrong on it.
She lost two seasons of playing soccer
but when she did – was recruited by two different colleges.
Due to the Pandemic – her H.S. soccer season was moved from the fall to the spring.
She is about to begin playing –
Her travel soccer was played although the number of games reduced.
She competed and will move onto the next level in the Fall.

We decided for their last beach walk on a cold windy day –
to take them to the far end of Cherry Grove to a place the local’s call Cherry Point!
The path to the beach is overhanging tree limbs with lots of shrubs and bushes.
Once you walk through there – you are greeted to a wide expanse of beach to the left.
The right goes back toward the houses and pier.
It was cold and windy – and we wanted to walk way out as it seemed at low tide you might be able to walk to the other shore.
Here you can see a few brave souls – walking – and the wind was really blowing!
We walked maybe a half mile – and decided enough – it was just too cold and so windy!
I told Sherry – when it gets warmer and is low tide – we must come back and just see if we can walk across the bay!

We decided after our attempt to walk the beach –
which was very windy and cold –
to drive back down the Ocean Blvd to Snooky’s!
Sherry and I brought Tammy and the little ones here when they visited.
Sarah and Debby at the table surrounded by heaters!
It was chilly out on the open patio.
We choose this because of the heaters and wanting to be out in the open
for social distancing.
Every other table was empty!
This was the last full day they would be here!
The four days have gone by so quickly.
We packed a lot into it – Mike is a teacher and could not come down.
Maddy is in college with her classes and in the middle of Spring Soccer.
We sat out there on the patio – when I heard Sherry exclaim ‘ THERE HE IS” pointing toward the beach!
She had read a article in the newspaper and seen the interview on TV.
A man who was dressing up as DARTH VADER in Myrtle Beach and walking up and down the beach
entertaining the children – with his Laser –
And he happened to be right here!
Now Ella is a huge – huge Star Wars fan!
For her 16th. birthday as a present – we took her to Florida with us for a week.
And the highlight of that trip was her going to the STAR WARS park.
That was what she wanted to do forever!
So – they both got up – Sherry and Ella – and down the deck they went!
I went up on the top deck so I could get a clear picture of what was going on the beach!
She has Star Wars figurines from her youth – ever since she could walk and talk.
She has seen every movie – over and over again.
This was one of her highlights of the entire trip to visit us at the beach!
And it was all by chance – we wanted lunch – we selected Snooky’s because it was close
And we knew they had heaters outside!

We ventured out and drove to Barefoot Landing – to let Sarah shop!
That is what she wanted to do the most beside walking the beach.
But – we decided since it looked really busy on the inside and outside
We would pass on this trip and go to a place that was not really that busy!
This was my first time seeing one here.
There were signs for this and snakes –
And at first we did not think it real as it was very still until it moved!
Hoping when the little grand kids come – we can show them a “GATOR”!
I actually like Barefoot Landing over Broadway on the Beach
which is in Myrtle Beach Proper.
We did do some shopping – well they did – I walked in – took a look around and went back outside to find a place to sit!
Sarah loved it here – her place to be – store to store!

Just as we did with their cousins – and here is a special place
to not wish upon a star – but a SEASHELL and the hang it form one of the Cypress Trees!
Many people pass through here each day –
I watched two older women stop and do the same thing –
find a shell – write on it and then hang it from a tree!
It was a warm day – low tide so lots of shells to look at!

For the last four weeks – there was a on going struggle between the owners of the business’s
and the city council and the mayor of North Myrtle Beach!
A year ago the Covid 19 hit and everything went into lock down
The annual parade was canceled and places were deserted.
Many did not survive 12 months later!
A lot of store fronts are vacant!
The business were told they would be fined if they proceeded –
I do not know the inside story only what I read .
The parade was canceled even though hundreds of people showed up
with no masks and no social distancing.
Instead there would be a steady stream of golf carts
all decked out – business with bars – blocked off with yellow tape and orange cones.
The celebration would go on after one year!
We went to main street with our masks and stayed away – 6 feet from people.
Sometimes that was impossible.
We watched and took it all in – it was a happy feeling – even though we were aware of our surroundings.
This main intersection would normally be crowded –
I really do not know just how they are staying in business!
Maybe – with Spring Break coming up – they will have customers.
A lot of people are condemning the celebration – but I do not!
We stayed away from the bars where most people were –
we found a place to sit and observe.
I hope that this was all worth it!

We had watch them jacking the house up on steel I beams –
cribbing and disconnecting all the electric and plumbing!
A second floor deck had been disconnected and a pool – in ground left there with a cement patio!
A long walkway to the beach with a sitting area at the end.
Two flags on a flag pole still waved in the breeze.
We wondered where it would go and how much this would cost?
The – a block away – lot was cleared – leveled and electric pole put in.
That was when we thought – is it possible it was being moved here?
And then one day last week – the electric went out and back on shortly after –
They – the movers had begun the move at 9:04 AM.
Traffic was blocked off – a lot of police cars and county officials and the moving company
and all of its equipment.
The electric had gone off and back on for them to disconnect the power lines and splice in once again.
The two story house was on the move!
A lot of people watching – HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE TURN?
The house was moved – still left on the huge trailers with wheels.
I am thinking they will start soon to put a foundation under it!
I have no idea how much this cost – but the beachfront lot is worth a million or more.
A house at the end of the rainbow! LOL!

They love the sand – the surf and the sound of the water and waves –
LETS WALK TO THE BEACH said Sherry!
So we did – the half mile walk through the neighborhood
To the gate entrance and then cross Hillside drive
Walk another block and cross Ocean Blvd. to the parking lot!
Growing up – we would take Debby and her sister Tammy to the beach
Whenever we could for vacation.
Now – whenever they can – they take their families to the Ocean.
Early on – we taught them to respect the environment
To not litter and see the wonders of what is around them.

Douglas will stop overnight – on his journey back North from Florida.
Doug is first cousin to Sherry – both his grandmother and Sherry’s grandmother were sisters
and both from Sweden first generation.

We made a trip back North to NVA!
To make arrangements to move what is left of our belongings to Ocean Isle Beach
to a storage unit we rented some 3 miles from the new house being built!
That way – if the build goes beyond our lease date –
we have a place to store items and a place to stay with friends if needed!
My son in law handled the storage unit up North
and two days later we met the crew at the storage unit here.
MY GUYS MOVING – a shout out to them – they were very professional!
All of this – the move South – saying goodbyes – finding a place to build
It is a adventure – but nothing new – we have been this way all our married lives together.
Four thousand pounds!
That is what we moved to here.
We have now purchased almost all of our furniture to go with the new house.
This here is mostly personal stuff – things that are family!
