Papa’s World – our new home – finally – we have the inside almost done – homeless no more!

Welcome to our new home – after a year – we have moved in!
I have had this CLOWN picture since 1973!

I traded for this picture with my brother – Roger – and I rather like it – but the girls always were afraid of it!

So – on this move – I put him up in the garage over my work area with my tools! LOL

And by his side – a painting a Union rep. friend of mine did while negoatiating a union contract in 1982!

Both – hold dear memories for me.

Welcome to our front porch – we have had all the pine straw removed – and replaced with black mulch.

The three Swedish horses were made as presents for us by he oldest granddaughters!

They even cast the concrete!

The front hallway – with the guests bedrooms and bath to the right – and what we both wanted – the office to the left.

The last year we have had to do all our office routines from a table or counter top after selling our home.

We had a home office there – Sherry has a home business – needing a desk top – telephone –

WIFI – INTERNET and storage for files.

Me – I used the downstairs breakfast table and later the kitchen table in the condo as did Sherry.

We both have desks in here – hers to the left – mine to the right – just like our political natures! LOL

Actually – I am the middle of the road – independent!

But now – I have space – desk and filing system for my daily blog articles!

She in turn has files – printer – desk – computer – WIFY – internet – our phones – and ROOM!

The second bathroom – between the two guest bedrooms.

Our old house was almost 3100 sf. on two floors – we did not need all that room – but still enough for family.

And we wanted in our autumn years – one level – and easy access!

The office is big enough to put a blow up queen mattress on the floor –

The sunroom has a pull out queen sized couch – matress –

and the master bedroom has a twin sized pull out mattress!

The house is just over 1900 heated space with a enclosed – covered screened in lanai.

You actually could put a blow up single on the floor there.

This is the third house we have built from ground up – each has been different – but each has our thoughts and ideas

at the time of the build – some we have carried forward – others not – evolving as we grow older.

WHERE WE STARTED – THE GARAGE – a two car garage – but since we only have one car – it has been turned into

shelving – work area and some storage – also a pull down stairs to overhead storage where I have neatly

stacked the xmas crates – suitcases and some blow up mattress’s!

Paps’ World – the beginnings of a new day and later with friends at Lulu’s!

Even though we are surrounded by construction on new builds – my view each morning begins sometimes with the sun peaking through the clouds – the Ocean is but 3 miles away in that direction.
Welcome to Papa’s World and another day in my life.

This day we would later meet up with friends – for we had tickets at the Albama Theater in Barefoot landing –

To see the MOTOWN review straight from Broadway.

But first – I sit on my front porch every early morning – waiting for the sun to peak over the tree line.

The early morning is my favorite part of the day – has been my entire life.

When I was growing up and my brother left for college – I moved into his bedroom at the front of the house –

which faced East – every morning I would be awake listening to the birds chirping and then the sun coming through the two front windows of that bedroom.

In all my years since then – I have never lost that feeling of the dawning of a new day!

But we had a show to see and first a meet up at LULU’S In Barefoot Landing with friends!
We have known them for over 35 years being neighbors before they moved to the Willmiington N.C. area.

Buck and Cindy – who now live about 40 minutes away in Magnolia Greens just outside of Leland.

We try to get together once a week to either golf or go to dinner or to a theater.

Sometimes we or they get busy and then it is several weeks before we golf!

We plan major trips every couple years – the last one was North California and Reno –

which we took ten days and traveled some 1400 miles covering the entire portion of the state near Sacremento.

We have been to Oahu – Spain – Gilbraltor and Morroco –

We have covered Mass. and Maine –

We did the wine country in Canada and Niagra falls –

a golfing vacation back home in NWPA and WNY!

We are in discussions now of a trip next year but have to wait and see how the year proceeds with Covid.

Sherry and Papa – Cindy and Buck – laughter is never not a option.

Papa’s World – our morning walk in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – Ocean Ridge!

The entrance to Cameron Woods which is part of Ocean Ridge across the highway.

In part we choose this development because it has a place to walk! Quietly – and not much traffic!

Also close to the entrance – a retaining pond – one of many in the area.
A look from the street into Cameron Woods – Ocean Ridge.

This area was supposed to be developed much like Ocean Ridge across the street –

where the BIG CAT golf courses – four of them – are located.

When the downturn came – this section discontinued development –

somehow – Realstar became involved and is developing Cameron Woods in among all the lots that were previously

sold by the main developer.

For whatever reason – no one is building on them except maybe 8 to 10 houses.

This area is like entering a national forest!

The beginning of my walk back to the house from the gate. QUIET – hardly any cars!
At the beginning a few of the less than a dozen homes that were built here.
Then you enter the forest – there are utilities here – water – sewage and electric – berms and drains and street lights with Ocean Ridge on them.
I wonder just why no one is building in these sections with many named roads turning off the main road.
Might it be all tied up in courts or someone bad mouthed the development!

Very interesting – and we have been told – they paid a lot for these properties.

We made the right choice – our development is thriving – another and last section will soon open up.

By the end of the year – our section should be completed and all sold out!

Papa’s World – the back yard – Crepe Nyrtles – Oleanders – pine straw and flowers.

Water – mellon Crepe Myrtle – stone and brick border.

The tree is in line with the one in front which is a white Crepe Myrtle – we wanted color in the back.

The lanai – which is screened in – and we will be able to view the two trees from inside.

On the opposite side of the yard – another water – mellon Crepe Myrtle – opposite of the white one in the front yard.
Three Oleander bushes that should bloom next year.

This tree line is protected and will stay there. Pine straw and flowers are what I plan for this area.

It is a work in progress – planting flowers – we love to plant flowers that return each season.

Much as I did at the old house in NVA!

Perinals mixed in with the wild and pine straw.
This area I really like the contrast – wild vs. planted Oleanders and pine straw.

In my mind I picture a bird bath here and a bird feeder. And on one of those big trees – one of those faces –

with eyes and nose and a smile!

Perhaps larger flowers that come back year to year.

We have this view from the lanai and the open patio and firepit.

We need to do some landscaping along the border here – just do not know what and when – but we will.

Papa’s World – Sherry’s happy places!

When ever we are on the beach – she is drawn to the water – wading – watching the surfers.

The beach draws her – to let off stress and a quiet place to walk – the sounds of the surf – the warm waters.

With friends – out and about – exploring the world with these two – every couple years we plan a break.

Buck and Cindy are our close friends – we moved into a house next to them 36 1/2 years ago –

and had known thenm before that. We get along and enjoy much of the same things.

Cindy is very active as is Sherry – always on the go. They walk together when we are around.

Now – our new home is about 40 minutes away from them.

We try to golf once aweek or go out to a show or dinner.

Family has and always will play a part in our lives. Sherry now is the oldest – and they all look up to her.

Here is Bode in front row with the five grandaughters behind him.

She reminds me so much of her father – tall – slim – smile – always on the go and a born entrepreneur

He always was looking for a way to make money and she has that also.

Not afraid to stand up in front of people and talk.

And they played golf just alike!

I became very good friends with him before he passed away – he told me many things promising I would not repeat them. All had to do with the War and I shall keep that promise I made to him.

I repsected him that much – it was a bonding moment for him and me.

Sitting on the Intercoastal waterway – just her and me – watching the boats and having dinner.

She loves our new area – back in NVA she would take dozens of visitors on tour guides into DC.

She is a leader – a natural born one at that!

And now – our new home – close to the beaches and the ICW – close to golfing and close to friends –

A place for FAMILY to visit and room to have them.

This is her happy place once again – walking – meeting new neighbors –

exploring and in a area that does not have the freezing ice and snow.

The new lanai and her putting her finishing touches on it!

These are but a few of her happy places – places she feels most comfortable in.

Papa’s World – front porch sitting – sunrises and early morning coffee – we made it!

The view I have each morning when sitting on our new front porch!
And in the evening – we have the view to the West of sunsets!

As you can also see – we are in the middle of construction of new houses – we are the second to close –

but we have been through this twice before – and the values have already gone up!

This is our third build – in the last 22 years!

Moving South – first to the NVA area – outside of Washington DC – and buying and selling three times –

With twice building from ground up –

has led us here – in Ocean Isle Beach – Cameron Woods – and sitting on our front porch.

Our new house and most likely the last one!

We have done major landscaping since this picture was taken – removing the pine straw and replacing it with the black mulch – putting in white – gray stones around the trees in the front yard and large rocks around the lanai.

Today it looks like this – removed some bushes and put in the mulch!

We have just a few more ideas to formulate – changing a few things and we will be settled!

Papa’s World – In the South – you live and golf by gators – you better be careful!

At our new home in Cameron Woods – sunrise from the front porch – at the end of this street is a pond – and a 7 foot gator lives there!
Our home – living in the South has taught me to be careful – look everywhere – snakes – spiders and gators!

I am careful where I step – I constantly look ahead – ticks are also abundant here!

But – we choose to be here – the weather is warm – but I am a warm weather person!
We finally went for a walk into the new section under construction – and found the big pond we were told about!

If you look real close – you can just see the eyes and nose of this little fellow!

He or she was about 2 1/2 feet long – just a baby – but WHERE WAS MOMMA?

We did not hang around to find out! When we started to walk away – it started to swim directly toward where we had stood! When we stopped – it stopped and when we started walking again – it swan to the bank and we could not see it! TIME TO LEAVE – and just WHERE WAS THE MOMMA!
GOLFING – we almost always see gators – so we stay away from the water!
YES – there are gators in these ponds!
As we drove by this pond on the golf cart – and I also watch out for snakes – although I have yet to see one!

Papa’s World – I planted Crepe Myrtles – beautiful !

I guess it must of been 8 to 10 years ago –

We bought three Crepe Myrtles – about three feet tall –

I had to dig the holes on my knees with a garden scoop –

because of the large amount of ROCKS in the ground !

Good morning !

Yesterday as we walked back to the house –

I realized just how beautiful they are –

and the one out front was the last to bloom !

Our house sits on the corner – the other two are in the back –

and they always bloom first.

But this one on the corner – with the green in the background –

just catches your eye when you come up the street.

Positive thinking

We are truly blessed – as we really like where we live –

We talk about moving further South-

But we have been here for 13 years !

The front porch

Over those 13 years – I have planted everything – all the bushes –

The large trees I did not –

And 95 % comes back each year.

We installed a irrigation system two years ago –

after years and years of me dragging hoses around –

It has been a lifesaver –

Most of the lawns are burnt up and brown –

with all the heat and Sun and no rain.

We made this our home

When we moved in – our house was the only one here –

Everything else was built later and we watched it all being done.

Today – they still have a couple more years of building.

They will open the third High School in September –

And our community has been named

as one of the top 25 in the country !

Today we are retired –

Living near our grand kids –

But I still cherish my yard – trees – flowers and plants –

They have become a part of who I am –

Funny – but I enjoy seeing them grow and change !

One day we will pack up and leave it all behind –

But – until that time comes –

I will always look as we are coming home –

seeing the green – reds and yellows –

knowing that we did that –

living my life one day at a time!

Papa’s World – after moving into the new home – our first official walk on the beach!

Ocean Isle Beach – N.C. the first time to walk here after moving in!

The beach is but 4.5 miles away – shorter if you are a crow!

We live in Cameron Woods – part of Ocean Ridge but across the main highway from it.

We are on the mainland – three miles to the causeway over the ICW!

We actually have a choice of two beaches – for Sunset beach is two miles futher in the opposite direction South!

And if we want to travel – we are 16 miles back to North Myrtle Neach where we have lived the past nine months!

The beach here is different – the sand a darker shade – not as flat and the waves seem to be rougher !

The beach also is not as wide as NMB or as many people!

People surf and ride the waves more here.

The water is very warm just like NMB!

And we are finding our way around!

There are music concerts throughout the Summer and into October on Friday nights!

Getting there is a major problem as we tried to attend the free concert and got stuck in a three mile

traffic jam trying to get across the causeway!

So – we truned around and did not go!

We are learning – do not go at the last moment – go early – walk the beach – have dinner and then get the chairs out and pick a space to chill and wait for the music to start!

Both beaches have these concerts on different nights as does NMB!

Right across the street form our home – Ocean Ridge – such beautiful skies here.

Papa’s World – Tigers Eye – Ocean Ridge Plantation N.C. – golfing with friends.

Sherry and Cindy – we do a scramble – husbands vs. wives – and we can not beat them!

Try as hard as we can – we can stay even – first nine we lost by one – we pared and they birdied –

they never get into trouble – if one does – the other is in the middle – just consistent –

they are almost always putting for par and when they are on with the putts –

they will beat you!

This is Ocean Ridge Plantation – right across the road from our new home.

There are four courses in here and this one – TIGERS EYE is the second one we have golfed on.

This is called the bIG CATS courses – all named after the big cats of the world.

LIONS PAW – PANTHERS RUN – LEOPARDS CHASE and this one TIGERS EYE!

We have what is called the FIRST TEE CARD – all four of us – and we can play 32 different courses on it at almost half the going rate for the course.
Sherry just hitting the ball and right down the middle!
Cindy hitting off the tee – she hits about 150 to 175 every time!

We have fun first – laugh a lot and plan our shots – but – hey – they are tough to beat!

They play the ladies tees as does Buck – I play the senior tees.

The courses here in NC and SC are mostly all like this – except if they have a special theme.
Very challenging with lots of water and sand traps which the sand I found off my drive on every hole!
There is wildlife and water fowl all over and most courses here have “Gators”!

You just are careful – looking always for them and watch for snakes in deep grass or wooded area.

The sunrise on Sherry’s birthday – 7-5 looking like a wonderful day.
Before we celebrated I said ” YOU READ ME THE DIRECTIONS” and I will follow – three hours later we were done!
We decided to go to Sharky’s just off the causeway bridge to Ocean Isle Beach with views of the little harbor and ICW!
This is just outside of Sharky’s – sheriffs dock and ramp. Sherry did not know NO TRESS-PASSING until I spotted it!

The wait was not long and the view was boats coming and going – refueling or picking up to go dinners!
This is what she wanted for her birthday dinner – fish tacos!

It was a very good day – from unpacking to putting the first of two desks together for our home office

Papa’s World – first walk after moving in the new home – Ocean Isle Beach – water – WARM

Sitting in our lanai – we decided it was time to take a break from unpacking and enjoy our first walk on the new beach!
Papa walking the surf line – the water was warm! Made me want to have my suit on and wade in!
The beach here is not as level as NMB or as wide and the waves on this side of the pier – are rougher!

This is the view looking North after you enter the beach by the community center where the showers and bathrooms are – a large volleyball net is here as well as a very long walkway and deck system.

dThe beach also is not as crowed as back in NMB!

This is more of a resident area beach!

Looking South toward the pier – we walked down there to the other side and it was not as rough or the waves as big!

Papa’s World – a view from the new lanai in the new house – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

This is the third home we have built – one in Fairfax Va. one in Brambleton Va. and now in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

When we came down here in late September of 2020 – we had no thought of building a new home.

We simply wanted to check the area out and were interested in the Leland area.

Our friends lived in Magnolia Greens in a golf course community.

We had been visiting them for almost 25 years and loved it there.

But – at that time we had a number in mind and could not find anything to buy.

Our new enclosed lanai – with chairs we saved from the old house.

So – we moved on – to North Myrtle Beach to stay a few months – check out the area and fell in love with it!

The problem then became – while we could find homes in our price range – they all needed updated!

Just not our taste and way to much work to do just that!

We searched for condo’s – but the problem was space and storage and a garage to protect the car.

Then by chance just wandering into a new community and the model – Sherry whispered to me –

I love this concept and want this house!

So – we checked it out and with all the upgrades and getting exactly what we wanted

we were still in our price range!

We would move into N.C. six teen miles from North Myrtle Beach area which gave us a half hour drive back to.

We would be right in the middle of all the golf courses on our first tee card

and almost one half hour closer to our friends in Magnolia greens!

The view out back – the tree line is protected and will not be cleared out!

We signed the contract in mid November and completed the sale and closing on July 2nd. 2021.

We are in our happy place – when we go to the beach – it is a eight minute drive with no traffic

and a 15 minute drive to the other beach.

We are but 2 1/2 minutes to three places to buy food – and lots of bars and grills.

Our doctors are twenty minutes away as is the major hospital.

AND GOLF – four courses right across the street!

AAAHHHH – cup of coffee – sitting on the glider – front porch – early morning – just me!
A look down the street at the houses under construction – we have been told by end of August – this street will be done. The sunrise from the beach some 3 miles away.
Looking West where the sunset will be. Farther up this street is the last phase – already cleared – infrastructure going in. I would guess most likely another year or more before that will be done – but there should be no more construction activity in our area after the end of the year.

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing again with friends – a place to stay when lease ended.

Our condo lease was up – our closing did not happen – so they took us in once again to their home –

on Magnolia Greens golf course just outside Leland, N.C.

Buck and Cindy are our friends – before we all moved – we were neighbors back in WNY.

We moved into a house next to them some 36 1/2 years ago and we knew them before that.

I have always known him as BUCK – never called him Bill.

About 15 years ago – he developed non essential tremors – and had a brain operation – where electric probes were implanted – with out them and the control under his skin on his chest – he would not have any control on his right side – arm and leg. The downside to having this implanted – is with it turned on – he loses his clarity on speech –

and has problems with balance. But – he still can golf and handle himself well – I drive – watch his ball –

and we get a handicap flag that allows us to get near his ball so he does not get so tired out.

He is one of my two best friends – the other Jimmy who I played softball with back in the mid ’70’s.

We all are close friends and Dottie – Jim’s wife – I have known as long as Jim.

The three of us grew up in the same small town of Eldred Pa.

Cindy and Buck grew up in Portville N.Y. just across the border and Sherry grew up in Mount Jewett Pa. aboput 35 miles away.

They are right down the middle and anywhere from 130 to 175 yards!

It makes them tough to beat – I golf from the senior tees – and when I get a good drive – it still is about even with them

as they have a advantage from the ladies tees.

Buck – because of his condition – golfs from the same tees as the ladies –

so a lot of the time we use his ball on the scramble –

He can still hit it almost as far as they can.

We play even up – no strokes – and this time out – after 18 holes – Buck and I lost by one stroke!

Their second shots are like the drives – and close to the green – a chip and one putt for par or worse two putt.

Sherry and I just love to play – get out – fresh air – and a lot of laughs.

Cindy has a traveling shot bar!

If we make a birdie – it is shot time – since we make few of them – she switched it to pars! LOL

Papa’s World – last days at the condo and walking the beach – Ocean Keyes NMB.

Everymorning – when we wake up – me really early – Sherry – laying in bed to open her eyes and see this.

We – for nine months – have been blessed – staying – walking – listening to the surf – all from this condo.

One last beach walk – wading in the warm ocean water – me carrying my shoes – the numerous tidal pools

people sitting in them -a look at the North Myrtle Beach proper – widest beach on the strand – walking –

comfort – the people -we will be back for it is but thirty minute drive for us.

After the beach walk – once again sitting on the lanai – awesome view – going to miss this!

When we return – I sit on the rocking chair on the lanai – or at the table – watching the water fowl –

seeing the huge fish from above and the endless turtles.

The otter that comes to swim and even a snake or two swimming –

No gators have I seen and was told there is none.

Swans come and go and at the far end – three white ducks I have named Huey – Dewey and Lewie.

Walking to the fridge and claiming the last German Pils – just for this occasion – salute!

It has been a memorable nine months – meeting people -having numerous family and friends visit us here.

Walking to the main street and all the live music both outside and inside.

The golf carts – the tourists and the six swimming pool here.

The pickle ball courts – the tennis courts – the work out room and the community center –

It is but a small piece of heaven -but it is heaven on earth.

Ella Myers – graduate 2021 – fall Randolph College – Phys Ed. and playing Soccer.

The party was held at the family house in Lake Holiday – Cross Junction Va.

Their father – through the years – developed a phys ed. course for the girls – balance line – zip line –

trampoline – climbing wall – tree house – soccer nets – and in winter a snow board run.

Living out in the country – they were raised to hike – kayak – conoeing – swimming – walking and running.

Over the years he taught them the soccer skills they have – now both older girls play soccer in college.

The younger sister – prefers dance – acting and writing – directing and producing videos.

Her dream is to one day go to NYC!

The three sisters – Ella – 17 years old Maddy – 20 years old Sarah – 14 years old – growing up in nature – camping.

Ella – when she was young we all called her TINY – today – she stands almost 5′ 9″ tall!

Full moon from the lanai – you can hear the pounding of the surf 1/2 mile away.
Of all the places we could of stayed – I think we did pretty good in selecting this one!

We have gone to Fat Harolds numerous times – we like the beach music – not knowing it was called this!

Back home in the early years of my life – this was just music played on the radio

and on TV when you watched those dance shows!

Had no idea about the SHAG or the way Southern Rock was danced down here.

Here we are at Fat Harolds – listening to the band SMOKIN HOT – eight members playing the beach sound in music!

Funny how you grow up listening to Alabama – Eagles and all the other music of our youth –

and since the ’40’s this was happening right here!

Papa’s World – our Leesburg family – little ones – mother & father and now Marley!

They now live just outside of Leesburg Va. about 30 minutes from where we used to live.

Whenever we do go home – we have a bedroom and bath in the basement – along with a suite of other rooms.

There is a walk out to the fenced in back yard.

Out there is a fire pit – huge patio and a pergola – multiple chairs and some rockers and a outdoor table and chairs we left behind.

A Boce court that was there when they bought the house – really beautiful setting!

Now – there is a new addition – MARLEY – the goldendoodle – Tammy’s dog – that she wanted – a big dog to walk!

She has always wanted a dog – but it had to be THE DOG!

The kids love her – Taylor has a way with her as she does with horses!

She – Marley – has now become a major part of the family! Here – she sits looking at the neighbors Mastiff – she runs over and they race back and forth on each owns side of the fence.
Marcus has now taken up cross country on his bicycle – going 89 miles through hills – gravel roads etc. in a race with other’s – finishing well up in the pack for his first race!

Papa’s World – graduation – party – family!

Ella’s sisters – Maddy and Sarah at the graduation – hard to believe that come fall – Sarah is the only one left at home – she enters H.S, in the Fall and Maddy enters her Junior year and plays and starts soccer for Lynchburg University. She will play against Ella.
Ella’s number one fan – her nephew Bode who adores her – here he is wearing Ella’s old sweatshirt she gave him!
After the game – he ran to her and she picked him up – he adores her and she is so good to him. That is our Ella!

Ella’s mother Debby – Ella – her best friend Olivia and her mother Amy – they have lived beside each other all their lives and the mothers are close friends. What also is unique – they have Sarah from Debby and Justin from Amy who are also the same age and in the same grade who are as close as Ella and Olivia.

GOOD MORNING

We were down to our last full day !

So we ventured not East – but to the West –

To the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va.

We were going to relax after three days of non stop touring !

So – we took in Bear Chase Brewery –

on top of a mountain –

with views of Reston – Tyson’s corner –

40 to 50 miles away !

and a few brews

We have been here on weekends when it is packed

both the brewery and the yards !

Lots of nooks and crannies
to enjoy friends
around a fire pit !
A air B&B you can rent
just walk to bed after a night party !

There is also a bar opened on the lawn when it is busy

and a menu for food

close by is another brewery and a winery

along with Mt. Weather where it is said

the Vice President was taken on 9 – 11 !

Papa’s World – walking home from the beach through Ocean Keyes – part three!

One of six pools – this one has the work out room in it and this pool is heated! A propane grill and sometimes two are at each pool area with others scattered through out the property.
Our little postal building – one of two in the Ocean Keyes that I know about – this one is a five minute walk for us. We mail out here also.
HHHHHHHHMMMMMMNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!! Not saying anything! LOL!
I told Sherry – I would like these flowering bushes in our back yard along with several Crepe Myrtles! This also is the closest pool to us – right across the parking lot and not many people use it. It also has grills and bathrooms.
Turned the corner from the postal building and heading to the stop sign and turn left for one more block. The lake is straight ahead between those buildings.
After turning left – then you walk the length of one building and turn right – the parking lot is here and building # 39 is on the right. We are on fourth floor in number 44!
The last walk in front of building 39. There are old – old growth tall pine trees and living oaks all through Ocean Keyes -I would guess well over 100 years old or twice that!

The parking lot – where we park our car – we would of loved to stay here and we could have – however – there is no garage and little storage – many people have units for storage off site.

Papa’s World – walking home from the beach in Ocean Keyes – NMB – part two.

The small building to the right is golf cart storage and a trash compactor building – the one to the left is for golf carts only. You are on a list here for golf cart spaces – that is the only way to get a spot to park it.
Sherry walking by one of Six Pools just like this one – the two on the main road through Ocean Keyes – have a community building – with TV – pool table – ping pong table and chairs and tables. This one has the work out room with all types of equipment. Each pool has a hot tub and a small wading pool. There are propane grills and picnic tables outside and each pool has men and women bathrooms.

The complex has over 780 individual condo units and town houses – this at one time a golf course called The Old Gator Hole! I think in the mid 2000’s it was sold and made into Ocean Keyes plus two other developments including a plaza with Walmart and Home depot.

Her on the left is one of two trash compactors we use – this one also has recycle bins while the other does not.
On our walk we pass the tennis courts and pickle ball court where we have played pickle ball with friends.

As we leave the beach entrance we use almost every day – and walk back to the condo – a two block walk to the gate.
This is the property just before we enter the gate at Ocean Keyes – We love this house and grounds!

This is along the sidewalk outside the fenced in yard – almost everything here comes back every year!

They have irrigation out here as well in the enclosed yard. It is shaded by Cypress trees –

and it is a inkling to what is inside the fence!

As soon as you walk through the gate – you see these three white ducks!

I have given them the names of HUEY – DEWEY and LOUIE ! LOL

Sherry – who is a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – will run ahead of me – then turn around and come back – to get her heart rate up – but I think she sees this sign and off she goes! LOL

I have to keep up or the sign in RED is for me!

Papa’s World – golfing at Leopards Chase right across the road of our new house & Fish Market to eat dinner with friends!

One of the reason we choose this area to live in – is the number of golf courses available to play!

There are four 18 hole courses right across the road in Ocean Ridge Plantation!

Another 10 to 15 courses within 10 miles or less!

And – our close friends of 30 plus years – a 40 minute drive away.

Our first tee cards which we all have – most f the 32 courses are right here.

Papa and Buck at Leopards Chase golf course at Ocean Ridge Plantation – home of the four BIG CAT golf courses – we are building right across the highway from them.

We have now played this course twice – but there are three more here that we plan on playing.

Our card cost $100.00 for each of us – but you play three times and it pays for that amount in savings.

There are 32 courses on the card and most price reductions are more that half!

We have a lot of fun and laughs – we try to get out once a week – selecting a different course each time.

It so happened that we had played this course back when we first came down here and it is right by our new home.

Then – during our play we select a place to have dinner – and try to make it with a view –

and not to far to drive – most courses are equal distance for all of us to drive home from.

Our view from the upper deck of the Fish Market bar and grill – right off the causeway to Ocean Isle Beach – about ten minutes to our new home.

Sherry and I have been here before and had great meal and service – and it was the same this time!

They had a fishing tournament going on and where wrapping it up!

Two $30,000.00 prizes given out!

We got to watch them cleaning up their fishing boats and then walked over to see the catch –

We had very good food and service – within 15 minutes of sitting down we were eating and the place was packed!

A good day of golf – great friends to share dinner with – and looking forward when we can do this again.

Papa’s World – almost complete – new home in a couple weeks – dreams come true!

This is the new house – most of the outside is complete – and the inside is almost done.

The kitchen and to the right – the breakfast nook.

The floors are all done as is the carpet and tile.

They move pretty fast when they all show up to complete what they have to do!

The text message came yesterday – we are still on schedule for a walk through on 6-22-21 –

which most likely will of happened by the time I post this blog.

The tiled shower – all the tile came from where we both worked for a combined 79 1/2 years! DAL TILE CO.
We choose to make the shower and linen closet bigger and not have a bath tub in here.

We were able to pick what we wanted for the house – as long as there were options.

Second bedroom – a hall bath is between the two front bedrooms across from the office and by the front door entrance – the entrance is covered as is the front porch.
The third bedroom which is on the side of the house.

It is almost done and we are two weeks out to closing which by the time I post this – will of happened.

Papa’s World – new trails -roads – paths – new neighborhood – new chapter for walking health.

Our new neighborhood – Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – mainland side – North Carolina

We decided to walk the new trail at the end of our road before the culdesac.

This winds around the pond and through the woods and back to the pond again.

Leaving our new home and walking down the street to the entrance to the trail – path.

These lots were our first choice had they been available – but they were all purchased – in fact – someone backed out on our wooded lot and we grabbed it right away as we wanted a private back yard.
This is the smaller of two ponds and maybe a third they are developing – the other larger one is in the new construction area and am hoping this trail will eventually be tied into that one!

The new construction area is just over that treeline which is considered a wetland and is protected and will remain that way.

Into the woods – the path winds through the wooded area and in the shade – a lot cooler on a hot 90 plus day!
Sherry walking the path – birds were everywhere! There were areas where it looked like other paths would be planned and paths expanded.

The walk was about 15 minutes long – not quite a mile – but this is only one place to walk –

the other places all together add up to another 3 or 4 miles!

Here we come out of the woods to the opposite end of the pond from the start.
Now we are walking into the culdesac which is behind the tree line in our back yard.

We also could of chosen a lot back in here – but these houses would of been a later closing date.

Papa’s World – the new home landscaped – irrigation in and trees planted!

In a few days we will close and be in!

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –

May be one of the first things we change!

But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –

plus a live oak tree in the front!

Here is my favorite – front porch – covered and in shade most of the day!

I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –

this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –

plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!

The back of the house – master bedroom to the left – open patio center and the covered enclosed lanai.

We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!

The lawn runs to the treeline – which will not be cut down – and these will be the only houses you will see on the other side! This is a protected area – can not even touch the tree already down.

We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!

We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.

We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.

The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.

If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.

Papa’s World – My first thought when we walked main street – all the golf carts we were back in The Villages!

They were here early – starting just back from the entrance to Fat Harold’s Beach Club where we go and watch them do the Shag dance!

There are a lot of golf carts in North Myrtle Beach – and they actually block off this portion of Main Street –

and make it into one big tail gate lot for golf cars – and there is no one way they park.

The are front to back – sides – going in different directions and by the start of the music – jammed in there!

Sherry with her chair on her back as we walk down the side walk toward the beach – this was early – about one hour before they were scheduled to begin the music!
Some carts parked facing away from the beach – when we walked by here later – they were almost all touching each other – just enough room to walk about – chat up your neighbor and sip a drink – somehow they had set up speakers in the middle divide and the band could be heard through those speakers – actually sounded better than where we sat.
Looking back up main street across Ocean Blvd. Now these carts are all facing front but behind them – they are in different directions – I think at the end the police help them get out – we did not hang around as lightening was coming from upo the street behind these carts! The rain did hold off – later in the night.

It is here that the OD PAVILION – before it was destroyed in the ’50’s from a hurricane –

The SHAG DANCE started!

HOTO’s also is here as well as the OD TIKI HUT and radio station 94.9 the SURF!

HOTO’s behind the red sign and THE SURF RADIO STATION 94.9 – and the OD TIKI BAR.

The music was good – although in different areas as we walked about – it was better – must be where we sat!

The crowd was big and this the second concert of the season which goes every Thursday night –

till the end of October!

I am happy for the merchants as it has been a long 15 months of the pandemic.

I think the vaccinations plus the number of people who already have had covid19

has brought us closer to herd immunity.

The clouds were moving in – we both had rain alerts on our phones and behind us toward rte. 17 – thunder and lightening! TIME TO GO HOME!

Papa’s World – Friends – then the rain came – golf inside – walk in the rain – finally beach!

Our well laid plans for a day of golf went out the window as the storm moved in and stayed all day!

We had planned this for over a month – we would golf on Sunday – at 1:00 PM. but – it was still raining at that time –

So – we did the next best thing – we had a putting contest – in the condo!

We laid out a nine hole course – even a dog leg left – short putts and long putts!

We used clear plastic cups as holes – all you had to do was hit the cup –

and even one hole went from carpet – to regular floor – and if you missed – you rolled way past to the front door!

Dottie – on hole number seven before the carpet – over regular floor – to front door hole number 8!

It came down to Jim and Cindy – tied at end of nine and still tied after extra hole playoff!

Then it was closest to the cup with out going past it.

Jim won by just a couple inches!

The rain slacked off – enough that we decided to go outside and walk to the beach!

Jim – Papa Cindy and Dottie and a surfer dude carrying his board!

The surf was up and large waves!

It was not raining hard and soon let up!

The beach and surf – hardly anyone there!
Okay – rain stopped – Jim and Cindy checking out the water with their umbrellas!
We went back to the condo – picked up our chairs and drove back to the beach.

Jim – after a while – went for a swim – it was warm and so was the water – well – a little chilly!

We stayed for over a hour – and hardly anyone was there!
Time to go back to the condo – fix dinner – relax – play games – even though golf was a wash out –

we had a fun day – putting – walking in the rain and then enjoying the beach by ourselves!

The years have come and gone – me the serious one – she the smiling one – together – we make one!
One leading the way – one guiding the way!
We did not meet on – line – nor in line – we are old – we were young – still the same !
Happy is as Happy was – still the same!
We have had the best – and the best is yet to come!
Yes – she hit it that far – does she beat me? YES! Do I care? NO!

Through the years – many adventures – many moves and many memories!

The early years are gone – the middle years came and went – but what remains is our beliefs – in each other and the World around us!

Respect – admiration – challenges – ideals and courage. I believe as she believes – in each other.

The sun rises each day on this marriage – 39 years worth – it never gets dull!

At Barefoot Landing – North Myrtle Beach – walking to Land Sharks – Dottie – Cindy – Sherry – Jim and Buck.

We had gone to Crooked Hammock Brewery to taste beer –

and then decided to head over to the newly opened Land Shark to grab a late lunch –

Sherry and I come here all the time to walk – doing a couple loops will get us 2 1/2 miles!

We really like this better than Broadway on the Beach.

There are more places to visit here and sit!

This all sits on top of water on the lake!

We planed to eat and then go to Fat Harold’s to watch Shag dancing later!

This had just opened recently and was our first time here.

It was not as busy as the other place – but had many wide open spaces!

The picture behind Sherry represents the original shag clubs since the 1940’s which were destroyed

in a Hurricane in the 1950’s!

This building has been in operation since the 1990’s!

Before our friends arrived – we took our walk to the beach!

They would all be here by noon!

So – we walked – and then we went back and waited for them to arrive!

Back to front – Jim – Dottie – Sherry – Buck – Cindy and Papa.

Our first stop on Saturday afternoon would be Barefoot landing – and Crooked Hammock Brewery –

where the gals would do a flight of four beer tastings.

The guys already knew what beer they wanted!

Sherry has been trying beer and staying away from her Vodka and Tonic!

So she is slowly acquiring the taste as the rest of us drink beer.

Here we are along the ICW – looking at the boats!

NOTE: we normally do not drink – only when we get together with family of friends –

we go weeks on end without – mostly drinking healthy shakes or water

coffee ( me) tea ( Sherry) – I am for the most part a light beer drinker –

I do not like wine much or hard drinks –

Sherry = prefers when she has a drink – a wine of her choice or Vodka and tonic and not many of them.

After the stop at the Brewery – we continued on toward a new place that just opened up –

Called LANDSHARK – where we would have lunch!

Today – I post some pictures – just random pictures – but ones I have close to my heart!
Taylor holding MorMor’s hand – in turn MorMor also holding Bode’s hand.

They adore Sherry – whom they call MorMor – Swede for Mothers Mother!

When we walk with all three – it usually is Taylor who loses out to the other two in holding her hands.

This time it was Cassidy – who with each passing day – is becoming more and more independent.

These two are coming closer and closer together as they grow up.

They are twins – but had to come early as Taylor was taking all the nutrients.

Taylor is going to be really tall – close to six foot while Cassidy will be like her mother 5’6″.

Taylor loves to ride horses – Cassidy has a variety of interests –

but will sit for hours drawing off her computer and is really good!

I thought this to be funny – it brought a smile to my face!

We moved south to find more time to golf – warmer weather and being close to our friends!

Sherry and Cindy – we have been friends with the McBrides for almost 35 years.

They moved about 25 or 26 years to the Wilmington N.C. area – and we would spend time with them once or twice a year.

Then we moved to NVA and they would do the same.

Now – we are building a new home about 40 miles away from them –

and if the weather is nice – we golf once a week with them –

always on a new course – could be on the weekend or a week day.

They can and do stay with us and we do the same with them.

If our new home is not done on time and we have to give up the condo – they have offered us a place to stay.

FRIENDS! GOOD TIMES! LAUGHS!

This is what we have wanted to do for a very long time – it was too expensive in NVA and down here so many courses to choose from.

We both have a love to golf – one of Sherry’s highlights in golfing came with the day she broke 50 –

and it was a day she was golfing with her father!

A memory she shall always carry with her on the course. Now – she beats me! LOL

The view we have almost every morning when we wake up – the master bedroom has a big glass sliding door on her side of the bed – where all she has to do each morning is open her eyes and see this.

I see it each morning also – but I always am up before the dawn – have been that way all my life.

My favorite time of the day – writing my blog – sipping my coffee and watching the sun rise –

listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoying morning time.

Now the sun shines – causing a rainbow in the mist of the water fountain!
A peaceful setting we shall miss when we leave – but we have had by the end – nine months.

A memory we shall carry forward into the new home.

You can hear the pounding surf a half mile away –

We walk there almost every day –

the water fowl – geese – ducks – mallards – swans – otter – turtles – snakes

and really huge fish we can see when we look down onto the water.

Storms blowing in and out – rain and wind – nature at its best.

It would of been nice to have lived to the left of the picture – single family homes!

But – they were way too expensive – and the condos here – not enough space and no garage.

We have a storage unit – not a lot – but enough so that it would not fit.

The town houses here besides the condo’s – were out of our price range –

plus the one we looked at – needed a lot of work.

This is a beautiful area – one I shall remember –

We were blessed to have spent time here – but it also was expensive!

Papa’s World – BROOK GREEN GARDENS – a must to see south of Myrtle Beach on rte 17.

If you want a peaceful walk – there are miles of trails and paths – among the old growth live oaks – the tall cypress and pine trees of South Carolina.
Along the way – a boardwalk – near the marsh – through the grounds of the old slave quarters – and see the history of this historic old plantation – and the huge rice fields – and wonder how these people lived – worked and toiled.
Scattered about over the acres and acres of the park – hundreds of bronze statues – depicting life of the world – by famous artists – some bigger than life – beautiful to see – and a story behind each one!
A building of hundreds of bronze statues – faces – animals – marble – stone – behold the beauty and capture the imagination of ones soul.
Carved out of wood – almost real like – exceptional artistic work.

Papa’s World – golfing with friends at Carolina National – a Fred Couples course.

Buck Cindy Sherry – getting ready to tee it off!

We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!

Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.

Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.

It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.

It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –

lots of sunshine and very good friends!

Game on – girls vs boys!

Cindy – teeing off – Sherry spotting the ball!
Sherry teeing off – note: BOTH of them always hit it straight down the middle!

They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!

And – darn it – one will make the putt!

We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!

All smiles – ready for the back nine! Time to pull it together! We got off to a good start – going up 2 after the first three holes – and then four by the fifth!
But they started coming back – we pared -they had a birdie!
Going into the last hole – we were up by one!

We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!

Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!

Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.

We have been doing this for years – guys vs. gals – always fun – but they are good!

Papa’s World – Memories from the last six teen months – Ocean Keyes – S.C. – new home.

On October 1st. 2020 – this became our new home for nine months!

We had no idea we would end up in North Myrtle Neach.

My friend would ask me WHY we choose there?

Well – the best answer I can give is I came across this condo –

on a site that listed houses and condos for sale!

I expanded the search area and this picture or one like it – came into view!

I showed it to Sherry and we decided right there and then we would rent it!

First – for three months – then we extended it to five months –

all because we looked and looked and decided it was just as good to build –

as it was to buy! We could have what we wanted and not upgrade someone’s home!

So – we made our choice in Cameron Woods – across the border into N.C.

It would be a brand new build and we set about making our selections –

and at that time we extended our lease until the end of June!

Which would be a total of nine months!

We tried very hard to stay in this area – but cost and being too close to the Ocean

played a big part in where we ended up!

We are with in four miles to a beach and six miles to another beach!

We can drive one half hour back here to North Myrtle Beach.

We are in a new development – and right in the middle of a dozen golf courses!

We are in the country but a mile and one half to a gas station and a couple miles to a Publix!

In November we signed our contract and made all our selections.

We are on schedule for a early June closing!

We will walk a beach everyday – which has been our dream – we have a community of neighbors we have already met.
Our new home – roof done – siding almost done – stacked stone done – doors and windows – done – plumbing done – electrical done – insulation done – dry wall to start and by the time this is published – will be done – as will most of the inside – outside trim – almost done – utilities – connected – we are almost there!

On our way back home to NVA – we stopped in Lynchburg to watch Maddy –

Our oldest granddaughter – play soccer!

She starts as a Sophomore – and plays for the University of Lynchburg.

One thing she wanted to do – to get out in the fresh air and hike with her family!

Which we did on this paved trail that runs along the river in Lynchburg Va.

One of our very first visitors after we moved to Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach –

was the father and mother of our son in law – Marcus.

They came down and spent four days with us – playing cards – walking the beach –

and introducing us to a new game called RUMMIKUBE!

We have always gotten along with them and every Sunday – sat beside them in the pew!

A short visit – Sherry Sarah Debby – came to visit – Mike could not be here – Maddy was in college.

Debby and the two granddaughters came for a short visit –

and we took them hiking – which they love to do – at Vareens memorial Garden.

They will be back as we took them also to the new house build!

Carol and Mike – our close neighbors back in WNY for 12 1/2 years!

Mike and Carol – we lived next door to them – invited us and our friends – we have all been friends for years-

to their lake house in WNY -Lake Chatauqua – for a long weekend of riding the lake in their beautiful boat!

They have extended another invitation for this August – the same group – for four days!

They own a business that sends crews to do commercial painting all over the East Coast

and this year are expanding to the mid west.

Mike – started this when he was very young — and what a company he has turned it into!

In this picture – my friends of the last 36 years for Buck and 40 plus hears for Jimmy!

Jimmy and I worked together and played softball together in the mid to late ’70’s!

In the back ground across the pond on this hole in Magnolia Greens –

sits Buck and Cindy’s new home they built a couple years ago!

I really like this area and would of moved here if we could of found something

like this and in our price range.

Dottie – Jimmy’s wife and Cindy – Bucks wife – all these years still getting together!

We all moved away from our home town areas.

Yet – at least twice a year we manage to get together –

here we are at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach!

Speak no evil – see on evil and hear no evil!

In the last 16 months – sometimes we struggled to balance social distancing –

and that was very true with family.

Sitting in our garage while the three little ones sat on a tarp in the lawn at the end of the driveway.

Or visiting them standing outside and little Bode hiding behind his parents peaking out at us!

That broke my heart.

But – we have come a long ways on this – we did stay with family after we sold our house

at the end of June last year!

Family is important and we have been tested twice and so have they!

My little buddy – Bode – who when we stay with them – will come down the stairs to the bottom area where we stay –

PAPA – can I sit on your lap!

This is at 5:45 am. – while I am writing my blog!

He knows I wake up early and down he comes- when we are not here – he sleeps in!

Last week he asked me on a kids message –

he had called me – “PAPA – WHEN WILL WE SEE YOU AGAIN”?

I tear up when he talks to me like that!

When the family Krohn – the three little ones and Marcus and Tammy – came to visit on their Spring Break.

Here we are having lunch after they drove 6 hours – at Crooked Hammock at Barefoot Landing!

They spent all weekend and until Friday of the following week with us!

This made us very happy as they got to see where we are and where we are building our house.

They now know it is but a six hour drive for them to visit!

Before the Pandemic and while in Florida – met up with very old friends – Lynda and Fred – going back some 45 years!

I knew both before I met Sherry – Freddie and I went to 7th. grade thru 12th. grade.

We met at a place that was half way to where they live in Florida and to where we were staying!

Great time with old friends. MEMORIES!

We traveled before the Pandemic – meeting friends along the way.

And – – we were careful – as were some more friends we met.

Almost seven months after the start of the Pandemic – we met up with Pam and Bob – in Berkeley Springs WV.

Bobby and I go back to grade school – friends for life.

Sports – a few drinks – camping out – running the streets – never anything destructive – just boy hood memories.

By the time this blog posts – Pam and Bob will stop in on there way back to New England.

They have a drive RV towing a car.

We are all safe – testing and vaccinations.( except Sherry who is allergic to the vaccine)

It will be good to once again relive memories – Freddie – Bobbie and I had growing up!

Many memories – friends – family and life in general. The journey living life one day at a time.
John and Nancy – members and friends form our church – Community Lutheran Church in Sterling Va.

Fourteen years we attended services there.

John and Nancy moved to Charleston about a year before we moved.

On our way back from Florida – just before the Pandemic – we stopped in and stayed – regaling in memories.

They gave us a walking tour of Charleston’s waterfront and historic district.

A few months after we moved to Myrtle Beach area – we met halfway in Georgetown S.C.

And – about a month or so ago – they visited us at the condo.

Papa’s World – Taxes are being done – my job is making dinner – eating healthy – yes my lady.

Today – I am making dinner while my wife does our taxes – I have the easy part!

Eating healthy has become a way of life for us going on almost 16 years!

In that time I have learned how to BAKE rather than fry!

I have learned low carbs – no gluten – low sugars – and GMO’s.

I have learned to lead by example – children watch and copy!

My life is far different than all those years gone by.

I WATCH WHAT I EAT!

The dinner I made – baked salmon – greens – one sliced egg – veggies – a little fruit and no dressing!

I have learned over these past 15 plus years.

I take it very seriously!

Well – you must also smile! Great for your mental health!

Living each day – I have to stay away from sugars as I am borderline diabetic.

I watch carbs more so that calories – carbs put the weight on me and turn to sugars.

We grow our own produce with no pesticides – knowing exactly what we are eating.
We make healthy meals and deserts out of fruits – veggies and berries.

We purchase from this company what we eat for health reasons.

Have been doing this for almost 16 years!

And – the taste – for me – is excellent.

Life is hard – food – not healthy food – is everywhere!

Commercial after commercial – radio or TV – is constant.

Billboards – advertisements – packaging!

Everywhere you look or hear is processed food.

Berries (purple) omega’s (orange) fruits (red) Veggies ( green) are my medicine cabinet.
Concentrated whole food – powdered – nutrient dense – encapsulated every day!
Yes – I baked dinner – I use no salt – no dressing – I do use onion flakes – pepper and a low sodium seasoning.

And when not doing our taxes – she makes healthy treats!

A shake a day seems to keep my doctor away!

Our lives changed almost 16 years ago – she became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH –

through the known children’s doctor – Dr. William Sears – author of 40 children’s books.

Health has become our lives.

Making healthy choices one day at a time.

Instead of candy and sweets – I chew on these – Gummy’s – fruit – vegetable and berries. Satisfies my urge to eat sweets!

Sherry and Cindy – they decided to walk the 18 holes – Sherry got a new pull cart!

I actually believe these 27 holes compare to the best in the area including Myrtle Beach!

On this day – the flowers were in full bloom and reminded me of Augusta!

Almost every hole was like this!

We have played this course many times over the years!

They have called this home for at least twenty years.

Having bought and sold and built here many times.

This is the main reason we came South to this general area.

Our new home will be about 40 minutes away –

so daily golf is available!

This is the second home they have built here – both in this water area and both had like views –

We – Buck and I – did our usual scramble – and we had a record for us – we shot a 39 with a double boogie the last hole!

If you are ever in N.C. just South of Leland and Wilmington – this is a public course – 27 holes – stop in and make a tee time – it will surprise you and you will love it – one of the best around the area!

Cindy and Sherry – one will walk and then change up for the other to drive.

We started off in the rain – but the forecast said it would move on out –

and the sun and warmth would be there!

AND THAT IS JUST WHAT IT DID!

One of the views – we had to cross over here – but it was not a busy road.

Are there Gators here? YES THERE ARE!

We played well – Buck and I – enough so that they beat us by one stroke the first nine and we won by three stokes the back nine. Do not be fooled by how close they made it – they are always right down the middle and second shot is either on the green or close to it! They are good when in a scramble!

We bought what is called the first tee card – we all have them and it allows us to play over 32 courses

at reduced rates – all are on the N.C. side of the border – and our new house is right in the middle!

I did not like this tee box as it was like a practice mat.

The only part of the whole course that they did this on.

You could not put a tee in – only if you found a seam.

it took us five hours to play and we did not finish up until 6:00 PM.

But – we finally beat them on the back nine by three strokes and it was hard doing that!

Papa’s World – Spring has Sprung – the Beach got busy – and they are in the water!

Here is our before 9:am. early morning walk – a little more crowed but nothing not expected! Looking South to North Myrtle Beach from where we enter the access to the beach.

But – this is the beginning of the week for Spring Breakers –

and we noticed traffic getting heavey.

We have found our way around and avoid the high traffic on rte. 17!

We take the side streets as far as we can – and one side street takes up to where we can shop!

Now – in the afternoon we decided to do a couple hours of a beach day – taking and carrying our chairs to the beach. Here is the same view looking toward North Myrtle Beach – a lot more people and a lot of people in the water. But we still had our own space – no one within thirty feet of us!
Here is the same view in the afternoon looking toward Cherry Grove! And – it will get more crowed as Spring turns into Summer with vacations! We are in the open space and avoid large gatherings which happen mostly toward North Myrtle Beach town center. A lot of young H.S. and college students gather on the beach there in a large group. You just avoid them as they will do what they do regardless!

Being here is still our dream – we will come back often as we like it here –

but also where we are moving too – no traffic – country quiet – we can walk –

and still be in access to the other two beaches!

The beach here is very wide – I have been told it is the widest on the Grand Strand!

Papa’s World – Sherry and I went to Eagles Nest to golf – a relaxing four hours – good course.

Eagles Nest – Little River – North Myrtle Beach.

We had stopped here over the weekend – as we have driven by it hundreds of times!

Two entrances and finally I just turned in and followed the road for about a mile.

And then we were there – EAGLES NEST GOLF COURSE!

What we found out later – was this is the longest course in S.C.

and maybe the longest I have EVER played!

The back tee box – if you play that – the course is over 8200 yards long!

And full of beautiful scenes such as these!

There are many marsh areas such as this – did not see any snakes or gators!

It was more like this most holes!

We were teamed up with a father & son.

We introduced ourselves – we had not planned on playing with anyone.

But – after the first hole awkwardness

It turned into a fun day!

I had watched my wife and how she was hitting.

I noted that she was doing everything right except two things!

I told her to tee her ball up a little back in her stance –

and to always tee it up the same height.

She was coming over the top on her ball – still hitting it good but not as far as she has.

This green – she hit the cart path – this hole for her was 299 yards – after I adjusted her stance and tee height – she ripped one down the right side and it hit the cart path and followed it toward the green – we searched and searched where we thought it had gone – the two guys we were with found it! It was laying just off the green on this side along the cart path. It had gone 299 yards!

And – I might add – she beat me by FIVE STROKES on the front nine!

So much for me showing her what to do! LOL!

After I showed her the adjustment – with her ladies tee – she was out driving the rest of us!
And she continued her good play – she also beat me the second nine!

Just a word to our friends – Cindy and Buck – the ladies have to give us strokes from now on! LOL

They are just too darn good!

Papa’s World – decided to visit the other beach near the new house – SUNSET BEACH! N.C.

The pier in the distance – we went in and grab something to eat and just sat and enjoyed the view!

We knew Ocean Isle Beach was a eight minute drive from the new house- without heavy traffic.

Now – it was time to see just how far the other beach – Sunset Beach – was from the new house.

So – we drove and it was 13 minutes!

About five minutes longer in no traffic!

So – there you are – two beaches to choose from – and if we want – we can go back to NMB –

some 30 minutes away – with no traffic.

We checked out the parking as we understand that in the busy part – this could determine where we go!

They have pay parking – which you can pay a set price for the year –

and – like the other beach – off the road parking –

but we were told to be careful on that – if you do not do it right –

like blocking the bike path or sidewalk –

you will get a fine!

The other direction on Sunset Beach which we were told was voted one of the top ten beaches in the country! And it really is nice – time will tell if we like it more that either of the other two beaches!

It was a very windy day on the sand – so we decided not to walk the beach –

but rather see where we can walk among the streets and houses.

We did find a path to walk – while not going on the sand –

and could see we could easily get our three mile walk in!

Papa’s World – Stopped at Patio’s in Little River S.C. Saw Weekend with Bernie and a Eagle

We had journeyed to Cameron Woods – to see how the construction on the house was coming along!

No one works on Sunday – so we could park and walk around!

Then – after we left – I said – ” How about we drive down into the waterfront at Little River”?

When we first came down here – we had driven down into the area and saw all these neat local places to eat!

First impressions are – you want to go with someone else – there is a biker bar there.

But – after walking around – I can now see it is okay!

We followed some signs that led us to a place called PATIO’S!

Off the beaten path but we walked to it!

And – then we were greeted by BERNIE!

As in THE MOVIE WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S!

I laughed – this was funny – and a place I felt comfortable in! BERNIE!
We seated ourselves on the outside patio decks – and listened to the live music.

I had my first draft beer in three weeks!

I really do not drink all that much – seldom the hard stuff – mostly drink water!

But – for some reason sitting on the ICW – listening to a good lady singer –

singing from requests all the music I love – EAGLES – when low and behold – one perched just outside the deck!

A bald eagle landed and sat there while she was singing a EAGLE’S song!
Then it lifted off and soared overhead – circling the entire patio!
And landed once again on the peak of the fishing shack right beside us!
We decided we are going back here and bring our guests here!
Sherry had the Sushi from the Sushi bar! And said it was very good!

I on the other hand did not eat – but rather had my second draft of a light IPA

Called a BLOND ZOMBIE!

Normally I do not drink IPA’s as I feel they are too heavy – but I liked this one –

enough so I had a second one!

12 oz drafts are just enough for me!

One of the first things Sherry did for the little ones after they had a good nights sleep-

Was to color Easter Eggs!

So – she hard boiled the eggs – set up on the Lanai – and they got to it!

Taylor Cassidy Bode – on the Lanai overlooking the small lake at Ocean Keyes – coloring Easter Eggs!

This has been a tradition with MorMor – as they call her -Swede for Mothers Mother!

She has done this even before Bode – who is six was born!

Afterward – things were washed up and packed for Tammy to take back to NVA!

I think Cassidy and Bode should of been the twins!

They are so much alike and act the same.

It is hard for me to tell the difference if I am not looking at them – to see who is talking!

Now – Bode is going to be tall like Taylor – who is so laid back!

She likes her “TAYLOR” time!

She also is going to be the tallest of the granddaughters

With Maddy being 5′ 6″ – Ella 5′ 8 1/2 ” and Sarah pushing Ella at 14 years old!

We took the family to Barefoot landing in North Myrtle Beach –

We had taken them there before and the little ones love the playground!

There was a Easter Egg hunt – scavenger – find the different stores hunt going on!

Papa’s World – The Krohns come to visit North Myrtle Beach!

They all came this time – for almost a week’s stay –

Tammy and the little ones had come down for a long weekend

Now – it was Marcus time to see where we would be living!

Here we are on the ICW at Barefoot Landing!

We had met them here instead of the condo – for we knew the little ones would be hungry –

they had left NVA at 5:09 AM. and we were standing in the Parking lot at a little before noon –

Less that seven hours!

And we told them – it would be 45 minutes fewer that that at the new house!

Our goal was to keep the time traveled to less than seven hours

and for both sets of family’s it will be that!

The above picture is for both family’s as they love the tradition at Christmas time!

We planned to have a late lunch and early dinner at the new brewery

CROOKED HAMMOCK BREWERY – that had opened up a couple weeks earlier

outdoors – and they -Marcus and Tammy loved the draft beer!

One was married with a small child ( Maddy)

And one met her future husband in NVA.

Papa” World – looking back in time – THE TWINS – Taylor and Cassidy – such sweetness!

A little over 10 years ago – they came along – so tiny – early – because they determined one was taking all the nutrition.

And – the day they decided this – just happened to be their mother’s birthday!

That is right – mother and daughters now celebrate the same day birthdays!

IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME!

Cassidy and Taylor – they were so small with Taylor weighing some 13 oz. more!

Does not sound like much – but they both weighed some 3 lbs. plus oz. !

Through out life for them – Taylor has always been the bigger of the two.

They were so darn cute – playing hide and seek!

Cassidy is a little spit fire – Taylor more laid back!

They continue to grow this way – my thought is – Cassidy will end up taller than her mother who is
5′ 6″ tall – and Taylor is taking after her MorMor ( Sherry 5’9″) and will be close to 6’0 when all is said and done! She already is over 5′ at ten years old! Look at Cassidy’s socks!

Sweetness – Taylor rides horses – Cassidy is the more serious type – she teaches the other two crafts.

Taylor is always ready to help her in schoolwork –

Cassidy the more daring one – you can just tell that by the picture!

Both love their MorMor and both will call her!

The little SPIT FIRE! Cassidy – ” Someday I am going to be big” she says!

She has the biggest heart – always watching over the other two – her and Bode are two peas in a pod!

Papa’s World – Family Krohn – two seasons – cold and warm – I LIKE WARM!

My season is WARM and WARMER!

Ever since I had my Heart attack some 7 1/2 years ago –

I get chilled very easy – even before I did not like the snow – ice and cold!

But – the families seem to like it – skiing – snowboarding and playing in the snow!

When we were back home for the Holidays – believe it or not – we went to a winery!

Where we had wine – snacks and a fire in a fire pit.

The pit was free and offered by the winery!

I bundled up and made it through -but by the end I was cold!

Here we are – outside – about 7 PM. – Marcus – Papa – Bode – Sherry – Taylor – Tammy – Cassidy!

I have to admit – it was unique – but I very seldom drink wine –

I just can not get into the dry wines!

Now – a sweeter wine I can sip on!

What a difference 3 weeks make!

From snow and cold to sand and somewhat warm!

Even though it was not as warm as we would of liked – for Jan. it was okay!

I am not shoveling snow – I can layer up and walk the beach!

School break – and a quick trip down – Marcus could not get away.

The first thing they wanted to see – THE BEACH!

The little ones love the beach – sand and water.

And then we took them for a walk along the ICW at Barefoot Landing!

and seeing the boats in the marina – where a lot of people are living on the boats there!

Papa’s World – She will turn 18 this summer – it seems like yesterday she was Tiny – Ella College – Randolph College Va.

Ella – our second oldest granddaughter – enrolling in Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.

We called her “TINY” as she was growing up –

Her father came up with that nickname –

Today she stands 5′ 8 1/2 ” –

Our little girl is all grown up!

Along with her entrance into the four year program – she will also play college soccer – being recruited – she had two schools to select from – and it just so happens to be cross town from the University of Lynchburg – where her sister starts on the soccer team there – and yes they will compete against one another!
Ella with her mother Debby – all three granddaughters are as tall or taller than their mother. Debby’s mother – Sherry – is 5′ 9″ – so they are most likely inheriting the Swedish genes from her.
It is a beautiful campus – nestled in the foothills surrounding Lynchburg.

She endured two injuries during her Middle school and H.S.

Both were broken bones in her feet.

One she was stepped on with a cleat

and the other she just landed wrong on it.

She lost two seasons of playing soccer

but when she did – was recruited by two different colleges.

Today she walks the path to her future!

Due to the Pandemic – her H.S. soccer season was moved from the fall to the spring.

She is about to begin playing –

Her travel soccer was played although the number of games reduced.

She competed and will move onto the next level in the Fall.

Papa’s World – walking the beach – no buildings here – just wide endless beach – Cherry Point!

We decided for their last beach walk on a cold windy day –

to take them to the far end of Cherry Grove to a place the local’s call Cherry Point!

To get to the beach – you must park along the road and then walk through this covered path!

The path to the beach is overhanging tree limbs with lots of shrubs and bushes.

Once you walk through there – you are greeted to a wide expanse of beach to the left.

The right goes back toward the houses and pier.

The view to the left and almost low tide!

It was cold and windy – and we wanted to walk way out as it seemed at low tide you might be able to walk to the other shore.

Here you can see a few brave souls – walking – and the wind was really blowing!

Ella and Sarah – laughing and trying to stay warm in the blowing wind!

We walked maybe a half mile – and decided enough – it was just too cold and so windy!

One last picture with Ella – Debby Sherry and Sarah before heading back to the car.

I told Sherry – when it gets warmer and is low tide – we must come back and just see if we can walk across the bay!

Papa’s World – Lunch on the beach at Snooky’s and seeing DARTH VADER!

We decided after our attempt to walk the beach –

which was very windy and cold –

to drive back down the Ocean Blvd to Snooky’s!

Sherry and I brought Tammy and the little ones here when they visited.

It was chilly out on the open patio.

We choose this because of the heaters and wanting to be out in the open

for social distancing.

Every other table was empty!

This was the last full day they would be here!

The four days have gone by so quickly.

We packed a lot into it – Mike is a teacher and could not come down.

Maddy is in college with her classes and in the middle of Spring Soccer.

Ella a senior in H.S. Debby – oldest daughter Sarah – youngest of the three – in 8 th. grade

We sat out there on the patio – when I heard Sherry exclaim ‘ THERE HE IS” pointing toward the beach!

She had read a article in the newspaper and seen the interview on TV.

A man who was dressing up as DARTH VADER in Myrtle Beach and walking up and down the beach

entertaining the children – with his Laser –

And he happened to be right here!

Now Ella is a huge – huge Star Wars fan!

For her 16th. birthday as a present – we took her to Florida with us for a week.

And the highlight of that trip was her going to the STAR WARS park.

That was what she wanted to do forever!

So – they both got up – Sherry and Ella – and down the deck they went!

I went up on the top deck so I could get a clear picture of what was going on the beach!

Here Sherry and Ella are nearing DARTH VADER who is Laser fighting with a young boy!

She has Star Wars figurines from her youth – ever since she could walk and talk.

She has seen every movie – over and over again.

This was one of her highlights of the entire trip to visit us at the beach!

And it was all by chance – we wanted lunch – we selected Snooky’s because it was close

And we knew they had heaters outside!

We ventured out and drove to Barefoot Landing – to let Sarah shop!

That is what she wanted to do the most beside walking the beach.

We had walked by here dozens of times – and were waiting for it to open up – at last – it was open!

But – we decided since it looked really busy on the inside and outside

We would pass on this trip and go to a place that was not really that busy!

So we walked around and came upon this alligator in the water – below us as we stood behind the railing.

This was my first time seeing one here.

There were signs for this and snakes –

And at first we did not think it real as it was very still until it moved!

Hoping when the little grand kids come – we can show them a “GATOR”!

I actually like Barefoot Landing over Broadway on the Beach

which is in Myrtle Beach Proper.

We did do some shopping – well they did – I walked in – took a look around and went back outside to find a place to sit!

Papa’s World – in North Myrtle Beach a celebration with the GREEN – St. PATS

The IRISH came out in droves to celebrate and this bar was command central in the organizing of the festivities!

For the last four weeks – there was a on going struggle between the owners of the business’s

and the city council and the mayor of North Myrtle Beach!

A year ago the Covid 19 hit and everything went into lock down

The annual parade was canceled and places were deserted.

Many did not survive 12 months later!

A lot of store fronts are vacant!

The back and forth has been in the papers and on the local news!

The business were told they would be fined if they proceeded –

I do not know the inside story only what I read .

The parade was canceled even though hundreds of people showed up

with no masks and no social distancing.

Instead there would be a steady stream of golf carts

all decked out – business with bars – blocked off with yellow tape and orange cones.

The celebration would go on after one year!

Discounts and sales were everywhere – the merchants have been in a struggle for 12 long months!

We went to main street with our masks and stayed away – 6 feet from people.

Sometimes that was impossible.

Most of the bars are on one side of the main street!

We watched and took it all in – it was a happy feeling – even though we were aware of our surroundings.

It still was sad to see almost no one here even though the celebration was going on!

This main intersection would normally be crowded –

I really do not know just how they are staying in business!

Maybe – with Spring Break coming up – they will have customers.

A lot of people are condemning the celebration – but I do not!

We choose to walk over and see what was happening – maintaining a safe distance from people which was not hard to do.

We stayed away from the bars where most people were –

we found a place to sit and observe.

I hope that this was all worth it!

As we walked – we watched from afar across the street – the golf carts -the music and people spending money.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH – A CELEBRATION WITH THE GREEN!

Papa’s World – watching a house being moved from the beachfront!

A few blocks North of this beach entrance – a beachfront home was moved a block from the beach!

We had watch them jacking the house up on steel I beams –

cribbing and disconnecting all the electric and plumbing!

A second floor deck had been disconnected and a pool – in ground left there with a cement patio!

A long walkway to the beach with a sitting area at the end.

Two flags on a flag pole still waved in the breeze.

We wondered where it would go and how much this would cost?

The – a block away – lot was cleared – leveled and electric pole put in.

That was when we thought – is it possible it was being moved here?

And then one day last week – the electric went out and back on shortly after –

They – the movers had begun the move at 9:04 AM.

Traffic was blocked off – a lot of police cars and county officials and the moving company

and all of its equipment.

The electric had gone off and back on for them to disconnect the power lines and splice in once again.

The two story house was on the move!

Already crossed over four lanes of Ocean Blvd. moving slowly up the street to make the right hand turn onto Hillside drive.
Almost to the corner of Hillside drive.

A lot of people watching – HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE TURN?

The turn is made – they would lay down huge wooden pallets for the wheels under the house to travel on the one side of the roadway grass!
From the rear – going down Hillside drive to the cleared lot! You can see the tracks in the road of the swing to make the turn.
Almost there after hours of slowly moving and repositioning the wooden pallets.
Finally in place after almost a full day – well into the afternoon!
Once a beachfront house – now a block away on a side street – the journey to this lot completed.

The house was moved – still left on the huge trailers with wheels.

I am thinking they will start soon to put a foundation under it!

I have no idea how much this cost – but the beachfront lot is worth a million or more.
