The complex has over 780 individual condo units and town houses – this at one time a golf course called The Old Gator Hole! I think in the mid 2000’s it was sold and made into Ocean Keyes plus two other developments including a plaza with Walmart and Home depot.

They have irrigation out here as well in the enclosed yard. It is shaded by Cypress trees –
and it is a inkling to what is inside the fence!

We were meant to be!
So – I do not forget her birthday !
All these years – over 40 – she is as beautiful today as she was then.
Kind – smart – caring – giving – awareness – equal rights – compassion – god – church – community – and so on!
She is a one of a kind – a mother – a friend – companion –
We are always walking for health – staying fit – growing healthy into our autumn years.

She opened the envelope at her birthday party in July!
There was a picture of Star Wars and the attraction in Florida at Disney World.
“You will spend one week with grandma and grandpa in Florida!
You will ride down with them at the end of Jan.
and go to Holly Wood studios to see Star Wars
and at the end of the week – for the first time ever
They will put you on a plane and you will FLY back home!
We had done something special for Maddy when she turned 16.
Her wish was to be able to swim with the Manatee’s!
So – in the winter – she and her mom flew down –
and she did just that – and then we all drove back home!
Ella – her little buddy is Bode
He follows her everywhere and she just laughs!
She is so good to him and when she goes to college next year
She wants to become a Phys Ed teacher to the little ones!
She will be excellent – so kind – so much of a good heart.
And a very good soccer player.
We spent the time touring with her also – showing her where my brother lived
and the three town centers of The Villages!
We went to see the Manatees and the beach on the West coast
We toured the town where we were staying – and stopped in the coffee shop
to get her a chocolate chip cookie each time – she loved that!
Standing in line as we all watched – her forst time and she handled it like a pro.
Tears welled in my eyes –
my little Ella ( tiny) is what we called her
all grown up and out on her own.
Now – be careful – don’t mix with strange people I worried.
When she was small – she would always come to me – clutch my leg –
climb up into my lap.
I cherish those memories – “IS HE OKAY” she said to her mother
when I had my heart attack.
YES I HAD A LUMP IN MY THROAT
as I went from vantage point to vantage point watching her in the long line.

IT IS ALL FREE!
One of the reason we choose this area to live in – is the number of golf courses available to play!
There are four 18 hole courses right across the road in Ocean Ridge Plantation!
Another 10 to 15 courses within 10 miles or less!
And – our close friends of 30 plus years – a 40 minute drive away.
Our first tee cards which we all have – most f the 32 courses are right here.
We have now played this course twice – but there are three more here that we plan on playing.
Our card cost $100.00 for each of us – but you play three times and it pays for that amount in savings.
There are 32 courses on the card and most price reductions are more that half!
We have a lot of fun and laughs – we try to get out once a week – selecting a different course each time.
It so happened that we had played this course back when we first came down here and it is right by our new home.
Then – during our play we select a place to have dinner – and try to make it with a view –
and not to far to drive – most courses are equal distance for all of us to drive home from.
Sherry and I have been here before and had great meal and service – and it was the same this time!
They had a fishing tournament going on and where wrapping it up!
Two $30,000.00 prizes given out!
We got to watch them cleaning up their fishing boats and then walked over to see the catch –
We had very good food and service – within 15 minutes of sitting down we were eating and the place was packed!
A good day of golf – great friends to share dinner with – and looking forward when we can do this again.

This is the new house – most of the outside is complete – and the inside is almost done.
The floors are all done as is the carpet and tile.
They move pretty fast when they all show up to complete what they have to do!
The text message came yesterday – we are still on schedule for a walk through on 6-22-21 –
which most likely will of happened by the time I post this blog.
We were able to pick what we wanted for the house – as long as there were options.
It is almost done and we are two weeks out to closing which by the time I post this – will of happened.

We decided to walk the new trail at the end of our road before the culdesac.
This winds around the pond and through the woods and back to the pond again.
The new construction area is just over that treeline which is considered a wetland and is protected and will remain that way.
The walk was about 15 minutes long – not quite a mile – but this is only one place to walk –
the other places all together add up to another 3 or 4 miles!
We also could of chosen a lot back in here – but these houses would of been a later closing date.

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –
May be one of the first things we change!
But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –
plus a live oak tree in the front!
I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –
this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –
plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!
We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!
We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!
We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.
We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.
The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.
If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.

There are a lot of golf carts in North Myrtle Beach – and they actually block off this portion of Main Street –
and make it into one big tail gate lot for golf cars – and there is no one way they park.
The are front to back – sides – going in different directions and by the start of the music – jammed in there!
It is here that the OD PAVILION – before it was destroyed in the ’50’s from a hurricane –
The SHAG DANCE started!
HOTO’s also is here as well as the OD TIKI HUT and radio station 94.9 the SURF!
HOTO’s behind the red sign and THE SURF RADIO STATION 94.9 – and the OD TIKI BAR.
The music was good – although in different areas as we walked about – it was better – must be where we sat!
The crowd was big and this the second concert of the season which goes every Thursday night –
till the end of October!
I am happy for the merchants as it has been a long 15 months of the pandemic.
I think the vaccinations plus the number of people who already have had covid19
has brought us closer to herd immunity.

We had planned this for over a month – we would golf on Sunday – at 1:00 PM. but – it was still raining at that time –
So – we did the next best thing – we had a putting contest – in the condo!
We laid out a nine hole course – even a dog leg left – short putts and long putts!
We used clear plastic cups as holes – all you had to do was hit the cup –
and even one hole went from carpet – to regular floor – and if you missed – you rolled way past to the front door!
It came down to Jim and Cindy – tied at end of nine and still tied after extra hole playoff!
Then it was closest to the cup with out going past it.
Jim won by just a couple inches!
The rain slacked off – enough that we decided to go outside and walk to the beach!
The surf was up and large waves!
It was not raining hard and soon let up!
Jim – after a while – went for a swim – it was warm and so was the water – well – a little chilly!
we had a fun day – putting – walking in the rain and then enjoying the beach by ourselves!

We had gone to Crooked Hammock Brewery to taste beer –
and then decided to head over to the newly opened Land Shark to grab a late lunch –
We really like this better than Broadway on the Beach.
There are more places to visit here and sit!
This all sits on top of water on the lake!
We planed to eat and then go to Fat Harold’s to watch Shag dancing later!
This had just opened recently and was our first time here.
It was not as busy as the other place – but had many wide open spaces!

Later – we stopped in at Fat Harold’s to watch SHAG DANCING on the BLVD!
The walls – everywhere you look through out the rooms and bar
are covered with plaques and awards through the years of SHAGGER’S!
The picture behind Sherry represents the original shag clubs since the 1940’s which were destroyed
in a Hurricane in the 1950’s!
This building has been in operation since the 1990’s!

They would all be here by noon!
So – we walked – and then we went back and waited for them to arrive!
Our first stop on Saturday afternoon would be Barefoot landing – and Crooked Hammock Brewery –
where the gals would do a flight of four beer tastings.
The guys already knew what beer they wanted!
Sherry has been trying beer and staying away from her Vodka and Tonic!
So she is slowly acquiring the taste as the rest of us drink beer.
Here we are along the ICW – looking at the boats!
NOTE: we normally do not drink – only when we get together with family of friends –
we go weeks on end without – mostly drinking healthy shakes or water
coffee ( me) tea ( Sherry) – I am for the most part a light beer drinker –
I do not like wine much or hard drinks –
Sherry = prefers when she has a drink – a wine of her choice or Vodka and tonic and not many of them.
After the stop at the Brewery – we continued on toward a new place that just opened up –
Called LANDSHARK – where we would have lunch!

They get so excited when they see us – Bode being the only boy with five granddaughters!
We go home and we stay with them or with Debby and Mike.

They now have another addition to the family – MARLEY – she is a Golden-Doodle!
She is such a chilled back puppy – but still a puppy with sharp teeth – she behaves with Taylor –
but with Bode and Cassidy she terrorizes them with those tiny teeth!
Cassidy always says – someday I will be bigger! But – she is of average height – more like her mother –
Taylor takes after her MorMor who is 5′ 9″ tall!
They love their Mor Mor – always calling her as does Cassidy.

Our Condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach – found simply by accident – and now almost nine months later –
We will move out and into our new home – if the closing is on time!
But – here is what we look at each morning – the lake – the wild fowl – the houses – the fountains – trees –
I love the rees!
All or most of the family has come down – Mike and Maddy have not made it here.
The little ones love to explore – play on the playground at Barefoot Landing.
Family is really important to us – and keeping the time to get here manageable!
In our new home it will be six hours for one family and almost seven hours for the other.
They can drive in one day and be here early enough to enjoy!
Family time – beach – exploring – warm weather – new home – new neighborhood.
Sarah wants to act – design – fashion – dance – no sports for her – although I secretly believe she would be awesome – still growing – Ella at 5′ 81/2 ” – I think she will be taller – and Taylor will be tallest of all – only 10 years old!
Family means a great deal to us – even though we are down here – they have visited and we have gone home several times – staying in each family homes with them.

This is all part of the Shenandoah Museum complex in Winchester Va. A hiking trail – through the woods.
The pathway is very wide – I would guess eight feet and all made up with crushed limestone! There are benches to sit on the entire walkway – and areas to sit quietly – a really nice walk and easy on the feet!

Ella will continue on in college playing soccer for Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.
She lost two years with injuries to her feet breaking a bone in each one.
But – she was determined and it paid off.
Her team is now 8 – 0 – 2 and headed to states.
They have five players continuing onto the college level!
They ended up in a double overtime tie for the game – 0 to 0!
They moved onto the districts –
But we were able to come home and watch four games.

The day was uneventful until late afternoon – the sky turned deep gray – and the clouds seemed to be rolling!
A storm was coming!
It was like this in front of the house also – the wind picked up and we could hear thunder in the distance
to the West.
In the distance – sort of pink clouds – but overhead – dark gray!
Lightening began and then the rain came!
The wind picked up – looking out the front window – I could see the major portion of the storm –
coming over the hills toward us – flashes and then the thunder.
The electric went out!
The rain came in hard – beating against the front windows!
The lights came back on!
The thunder continued and flashes of lightening!
The electric went out several times and came back on – the rain got harder – later we learned trees had come down
and one house was struck by lightening out Winchester way and burned down.
We all decided after it calmed down – with no lights but still a little daylight to see –
to just go to bed while we still could see.
Later – the electric came back – I think it was out a couple hours – and then we had to get up and turn lights off!
A eventful first night back at our daughters house in Leesburg Va.

She is ten weeks old and named Marley – the newest addition to Tammy and Marcus’s family!
They have wanted a dog for years – at least the kids have.
But – I feel deep down – this is Tammy’s Dog! LOL
Everyone was gone – kids in school – Tammy and Marcus at work – Sherry meeting friends for lunch and me with Marley – the whole time I had her outside in the fenced in back yard – she would go and hide in the bushes!
She really is a sweet puppy – but still a puppy – she has sharp little teeth – and barks really loud!
It was warm outside and she sought out the shade – she would look at me and when I whistled – would come running up to me – licking my legs and hands and wagging her whole body!
But – she is a puppy and like a little child – you have to watch everything she does – chewing – peeing –
It is more challenging than baby sitting! LOL
She wants to go back inside and will lay at the top of the steps and sort of cry!
Then when you go up to her – she gets all excited and licks you as you open the door and inside she goes!

This course sits on the right on Route 17 as you drive South to North Myrtle Beach in N.C.
It always looked so well groomed and made you just want to stop and take a picture!
Well – finally – we played it – with Buck and Cindy – our long time friends.
We try to play once a week with them – either toward there home which will be about 40 miles from our new home-
Or they drive down and stay the night as they did here and we golf the next day.
It is always a scramble – we all hit – and then the gals go to their best ball and the guys do the same.
Then you do it all over again – and they are never in trouble – always down the middle –
and each one hits a good ball off the tee.
Playing the senior tees for us – they have a advantage on their tee box and our drives are about the same.
This course is one that when you play it – you want to come back!
I would rate this one right up with the best ones we have played and it was a nice course!
It was not to my advantage to take pictures as we waited as the group behind could not see what we were seeing with waiting on the other groups.
So – I just relaxed and waited – along with the gals and when we could hit – they hit first and I hit last.
All in all – it turned into a relaxing golf day as no one could go anywhere and we just played the course.
But – I want to return – and by the way – we finally overcame our losing streak – we beat them!
By a total of three strokes over 18 holes!
They are so hard to beat – and if we could putt – well – that would be a big difference!

We choose our spot and set up the chairs – took a little walk to test out the water –
But – on either side of us – people had music – loud enough that it interfered with what I had –

After a night before with thunder and lightening storms with high winds –

They have been missing for about five weeks – I would catch a glimpse of them to the left of the lanai
Around the bend and through the shrubs and trees – once in a while
Sometimes I would mistake them for the lone swan –
But then I would see it futher down the lake.
Thought maybe they had a nest and were nesting little ones back in the marsh.
But – there were no babies and the geese have tons of babies –
So – I do not know why they disappeared and seemed to glimpse them every once in a while through the trees.
That part of the lake is undeveloped and is marsh – swamp – trees and water – not the type of place you want to wade
through or even boat in there – at least I wouldn’t!
I was disappointed in no baby swans but happy in that the were back!
They still would have nothing to do with the lone swan.
This is as close as they would let it come!
Then – last week – a man showed up in a small skiff – he comes once in a while to fix the fountains –
the one we see that is close to us in the middle of the lake – gets clogged up and quits –
I have watched him a half dozen times come in and go to it and unclog it!
This time as he was coming down the lake – I watched the two swans take flight –
beating their wings against the water and become airborne –
they circled around and headed over the houses to the left –
There is another lake over there – I think they went there as they were frightened by the man and boat.

I have seen turtles by the hundreds – a otter – some very large fish – a eagle several times -osprey – cranes – herons – egrets – storks –
And the three swans when all here.
A place that when you wake up with the sliding glass doors open – you hear the songs of the birds.

We decided to walk early – before it gets too hot!
So – we started out and went to the 10th. avenue beach entrance –
the one where they held EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE on the beach which we attended and I wrote a blog about!
Upon walking the walkway to the deck and stairs – we found a new addition!
It was a MAIL BOX with “FELLOW TRAVELER” painted on top!
Inside was a note book – journal – and already half full with notes from FELLOW TRAVELERS!
There also is one at the end of Sunset beach that was in the news –
I had read about it and how it had been there for 40 years!
And the journals are in a historical museum to be preserved!
Many interesting reads and dates – so she added her own!
I think this is a wonderful idea.
We continued our walk onto the beach – with fantastic calming skies!

You see – there has been a delay and shortage in drywall – all over the country –
which has held up our completion by a month! Along with inspectors and inspections!
I was excited as this meant the drywall was being put in!
It has been a long four to five weeks with hardly any progress – but we prayed and it is now moving forward.
And two days later when we visited – the mud on the dry wall was completed – sanded – and we had CABINETS!
We are excited – they told us tile is going in – grading outside – doors to be hung.
Now there is a delay and shortage on PAINT!
Because of the ICE STORM in Texas and the Pandemic.

We are happy – moving forward -perhaps by the time this posts – we will have a move in date!
Our lot is backed by trees that will not be cleared – it is deemed protected wetlands.
We will have lots of roads to walk and new trails going in.
Almost all the purple area has been sold years ago – but no one has seemed to build on them –
maybe a half dozen really big homes!
We do not know why – investment?
You can buy lots there from individuals for a hefty price!
For now it remains paved roads – old growth shaded trees and street lights – utilities
and beautiful green areas and ponds.

Maddy has been named to third team in her conference playing soccer – as a Sophomore she was in the top five on her team in four different categories –
Ella – is playing her last soccer for her senior year – undefeated – and aiming for states. She is one of five or six off her team to have signed letters of intent to play in college – she will be attending Randolph College and in the same conference as Maddy.
As the years passed – Sarah came along – the baby little sister – always making the older two laugh.
She has a way about her – always the forefront of fashion.
Wants her grandma to take her to N.Y.C. to see Broadway and shows!
I miss those special times – all three sitting at the top of the stairs – waiting for their parents to get up – smiling – laughing – such great kids and polite.
Today – we are scattered – us being in S.C. Maddy – coming home from Lynchburg Va.
Ella completing her senior year of H.S. and Sarah about to enter H.S.
Thinking back to the early years – the smallest one out there with a skill set – determination and quickness. I always thought she should of gone into track as she ran a 5:40 mile and did not train much!
Now – today all three are so tall – athletic – Maddy at 5 ‘ 6″ Ella at 5′ 8 1/2 ” and Sarah almost to 5’ 8″ ( 15 years old soon)
I miss those days of the three little ones – giggling – laughing – on the trampoline – hiking – soccer – dance – running –
being little girls – climbing up into my lap – singing songs as I picked them up!

On their last full day – Bob wanted to play golf – we last played together I would guess 1965 or 1966!
A very long time ago – and he had their clubs in the RV but had not used them all winter.
Pam – who was still recovering from surgery on her heel – would do the driving and Bob rode with me.
They have wintered the last two seasons in their RV – this time it was in Florida.
They made it a point to stop here on their way to family in Nashville before heading home in N.H.
When you play a scramble and her and Cindy hit from the women’s tees – it is good to have them both on your team!
This has become our go to place to take visitors – food is good – and you sit ocean front just yards off the sand.
Many adventures of sleeping out under the stars – roaming the streets after curfew at 10:00 PM.
Nothing bad – raid a garden or two – sneak some beer – campfire – canoe trips down the river –
playing sports together – proms – dances – joining the exployer’s together-
driving – family – both his and mine.

We had so much to pack in so little time – touring – seeing the house – Mother’s day – catching up – FRIENDS!
They could see this pier from their beach so we decided to drive to it and just take a look around.
We would walk up the beach and past this pier to the campground.
So we knew what was here and have many fond memories of her parents – sister and my sister and brother in law here. We also spent vacation time here with friends Steve and Elaine. Our friends from back home in WNY!
Here we are at The Crooked Hammock Brewery in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach.
We have come to really like this place and Sherry actually likes some of the beer!

They laugh – cry – hold one another – all the while sharing life together – even though they are 300 miles apart
The bond exists each and every day!
When we decided to move to NVA in 1999 – Tammy decided right away to follow us down to Va.
In one years time – Debby moved with her husband and small one year old daughter Maddy!
They have always been near each other – 3 hours away and no further.
Sherry decided to become a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and start her own business from home –
As a away to supplement her retirement income – it worked and she retired early!
Network marketing – in HEALTH and NUTRITION!
Today – that business thrives and allows us the freedom to travel –
move and build a new home.
In that same since – 15 years ago – Debby decided to do the same – with two young children –
And moving out to the country as it was cheaper to live – she also followed her mothers footsteps!
She became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and started her own business from home –
And surpassed her mother!
Today – they both lead “TEAM GENERATIONS” – promoting health and nutrition for families and children.
During that time – Tammy married – had twin girls and then our first grandson!
She also followed her mother into the Health and Nutrition field – establishing her own home based business.
Along the way she quit her job and opened up a Upscale children’s consignment shop –
And has recently added another home based business – promoting healthy eating!
She now runs three business’s!
And it is because she is her mother’s daughter!
The story of Mother and Daughters – although now 300 miles away – following her in her footsteps –
always in contact – we visit and they visit – zoom – text or call.
Promoting HEALTH and NUTRITION – one child – one day at a time.

We had planed this little get together for some time now.
They had been in Florida for the winter in their RV.
Moving around down there and then working their way back North.
They were in a campground eight miles from the condo’
So for three whole days – we gave them a tour – but the first day was Mother’s Day.
Then it was for a very quick walk on the beach where they were camping!
It was so WINDY – we took this picture and headed back to the campsite.

Usually – we do not walk this early – but I am a early riser – 5:00 am. each and every morning!
I have been that way my entire life – but I also go to bed early – by 8:30 pm.
I react to what my body wants – if I go past that feeling of wanting to sleep – then I am awake for hours!
But – with that being said – my body automatically awakes the same time every morning!
And then – without proper sleep – I feel lousy all day!
Wide open beach – low tide – gray – white clouds – blue skies and warm sun!
My kind of day!

So – the plan was made – golf nine – eat dinner and then go home!
We could of stayed with them – but – lugging all the stuff I need – my sleep machine etc. just easier to drive the hour plus drive back to the condo – besides – plenty of more times exist in the future!
We played our scramble format – Buck and me – they played best ball – WE LOST!
Now – we lost two holes to them – one by one stroke and one by two strokes!
We play even up – and we tied the other seven holes.
But – on the hole we lost by one stroke – we parred – they birdied!
On the one we lost by two strokes – they parred and we four putted – just the way it goes!
We have played this format for years and years – we at one time played couples vs couple – then we played mixed couple vs. mixed couple – but the gals challenged us – the other ways split pretty even – this way – THEY WIN!

Sherry is always drawn to the surf – walking in the water – still too cold for me! LOL
The only downside to this was the wind – it was strong – and would get into your eyes!
We only brought with us our water – and a lot of people walked past us – but only a few sitting on the sand.
The relaxing nature – the quiet – only birds – sounds of the waves.
It was a good hour to visit regardless of the wind!

Morning sunrise – calm – warm – partial clouds – then blue skies – a start of a beautiful day!
It started out with sunshine and we walked the beach – and the neighborhood –
But – the storm was out there – coming up from the South – West!
We did get all our steps in and had dinner – a beautiful day here in S.C. North Myrtle Beach – Ocean Keyes!
The sky turned from blue to gray – clouds were rolling in – thunder and lightening!
The wind picked up – Sherry started to go out the front door – the side of the condo the storm was coming from!
She had a hard time holding the door so she closed it!
This was the first real storm in the day light we have had since being here!
I have to admit – it got a little bit scary!
The wind just whipped the rain almost sideways!
I do like a good storm to fall asleep with – lightening – thunder and rain – but can do without the wind!

We had passed this from the causeway bridge every time we have come over to visit the beach.
And in reading up on it – found that it is the sister bar & grill to the one in downtown Shallotte N.C.
Which we were at one night after playing golf with the McBride’s and loved it!
Here – we decided just to have drinks and split shrimp wrapped in bacon!
I do not do this often so it was a treat for me!
AND IT WAS GOOD and fast service on that top deck.
You go to the bar – get your drinks – place your order – pay for it –
and it seemed like a few minutes a waiter comes up the steps and yells out your name with what you ordered!
There is another bar and grill here called SHARKEY’S and next time we will check that out!
It is nice to know that we can be here in ten minutes from the new house.

On this Sunday morning we decided after church service at the new church we will be attending –
We decided to visit Ocean Isle Beach – which will be less than ten minutes from the new house!
We need to explore this area as most likely it will be where we go to.
They have a summer concert series of live music beginning the end of May.
So we checked out the stage and open seating area – it is bring your own chairs and maybe food and drink!
Beach access and a volleyball net and court. We found where the public can park for free –
and it will be a great place to take family and friends.
Close walking distance to bar and grills and shops!

I have wanted to stop in here and have lunch ever since we got here on 10-1-20!
It is a local place right on the beach in North Myrtle Beach!
These places always catch my eye – I just get a feeling about them!
They generally have good food and live music –
and this day – the food was great – a salad with grilled fish – and the music?
Well – right across the street is a block long and a block wide vacant lot –
And it was packed with tents – you could rent – and thousand of people!
A huge stage and three bands playing for six hours!
WE WERE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE OPENING OF NORTH MYRTLE BEACH MUSIC FESTIVAL!
It is the first major event sanctioned by the town government since the start of the pandemic 14 months ago!
And people were out and about in golf carts – cars – trucks and just walking!
This was roped off and a charge to enter – you could rent out a canopy – and carry in drinks and food!
I would say – inside – a thousand people – or more – I guess this is the fourth one they have had like this over the years – and the radio station was there and it also was broadcasting from the beach which was just as crowded!
We tried to walk the beach – but it was really crowed and full of young people – all right next to each other!
This area is pretty much not locked down – and you could tell the tourist season has begun!
I am happy for the the store owners who have suffered so much – many shut the doors and will not return.
But – we decided this was way too crowed for us – so we returned to the music and walked toward our condo.

They stopped and picked us up – we had tickets to see Time Warp at the Carolina Opry Theater in Myrtle Beach
But first – we stopped at Barefoot Landing at the new Brewery Crooked Hammock.
Sherry had decided to make a switch to beer – as that is what we mostly drink.
She wanted to try it and just see if she would like it! ( SHE DID)!
She and Cindy ordered a flight of four different brews and tasted each one!
She found two she could drink!
Now – when together – she can drink some brews! LOL
Yes – that Greg Norman – the Aussie great golfer!
It was a first for us and we had walked past it numerous times.
My lettuce wedge with salmon was excellent and they all said theirs was good as well!
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!!!!!
Will go back!
And it was fantastic!
We knew every non stop song for over one hour – and then intermission!
And then for one hour more – non stop!
It said the show was sold out but it was less than half full.
Very professional – wearing masks to our seats – and no one within I would say almost ten feet!
It felt good to once again enjoy music and just relax to a very good broad way style revue!
So many talented people who all can sing – dance – play instruments and perform at a high level!

It was a warm morning – 73 degrees – and Sherry had said she wanted to walk early!
It is one half mile to the gated entrance on Hillside drive.
We walk this almost every day – and then turn left and walk up two blocks to 8th. street.
Turn right and walk one block to Ocean Blvd. – cross the street –
and walk into the parking lot – we like this lot – it has a bathroom – and a shower to wash the sand off!
It also has a boardwalk from the parking lot – to a deck and then steps right onto the beach!
In . 66 of a mile – we are standing on the beach!
Early morning sunrise – ten minute walk from our condo.
We will miss this but in thirty minutes from our new home – we can be back here!

And she was right – while we had different chairs – you couldn’t in mine either!
Music to the left and music to the right – I just turned it off!
Depending on the wind – I could hear one or the other and with no wind – Both!
We decided to stay for two hours and then we added another hour,
Since we had eaten almost everything we had brought with us –
We decided that was enough and went back to the car –
Yes – instead of walking down – we drove only because we had our chairs-
speaker – drinks – little table and the food and towels!

They adore Sherry – whom they call MorMor – Swede for Mothers Mother!
When we walk with all three – it usually is Taylor who loses out to the other two in holding her hands.
This time it was Cassidy – who with each passing day – is becoming more and more independent.
They are twins – but had to come early as Taylor was taking all the nutrients.
Taylor is going to be really tall – close to six foot while Cassidy will be like her mother 5’6″.
Taylor loves to ride horses – Cassidy has a variety of interests –
but will sit for hours drawing off her computer and is really good!
We moved south to find more time to golf – warmer weather and being close to our friends!
They moved about 25 or 26 years to the Wilmington N.C. area – and we would spend time with them once or twice a year.
Then we moved to NVA and they would do the same.
Now – we are building a new home about 40 miles away from them –
and if the weather is nice – we golf once a week with them –
always on a new course – could be on the weekend or a week day.
They can and do stay with us and we do the same with them.
If our new home is not done on time and we have to give up the condo – they have offered us a place to stay.
FRIENDS! GOOD TIMES! LAUGHS!
We both have a love to golf – one of Sherry’s highlights in golfing came with the day she broke 50 –
and it was a day she was golfing with her father!
A memory she shall always carry with her on the course. Now – she beats me! LOL
I see it each morning also – but I always am up before the dawn – have been that way all my life.
My favorite time of the day – writing my blog – sipping my coffee and watching the sun rise –
listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoying morning time.
A memory we shall carry forward into the new home.
You can hear the pounding surf a half mile away –
We walk there almost every day –
the water fowl – geese – ducks – mallards – swans – otter – turtles – snakes
and really huge fish we can see when we look down onto the water.
Storms blowing in and out – rain and wind – nature at its best.
But – they were way too expensive – and the condos here – not enough space and no garage.
We have a storage unit – not a lot – but enough so that it would not fit.
The town houses here besides the condo’s – were out of our price range –
plus the one we looked at – needed a lot of work.
This is a beautiful area – one I shall remember –
We were blessed to have spent time here – but it also was expensive!

It was a beach dance created in the ’40’s along this beach.
The first I believe was in Cherry Grove – but that club was wiped out
by a hurricane in the ’50’s!
Other clubs had formed over the years and along main street
in North Myrtle Beach was the hot spot for SHAGGING!
Clubs were formed and it went worldwide.
Competitions were held and champions crowned!
where you have contact almost 100 % of the time with your dance partner!
And – from what I could see – the age group was 40 to 80 years plus old!
CUTTING THE RUG!
Wondering what it was and if it was empty?
Then – listening to the radio station – 94.9 THE SURF – we found out!
On TV we found out!
FAT HAROLDS was reopening after being closed of over a year –
because of Covid19 and the Pandemic.
Which I found out hit this establishment really hard.
And – I could see why as it was the older generations who were dancing.
It caught them by surprise and they -the owners – shut it down.
This is the third location – and has been here for twenty plus years – since the ’40’s!
World competitions – nationwide competitions – local – all held here or across main street
on the beach in a big stage and dance floor.
Pictures – a Hollywood walk of fame throughout the sidewalks of main street honoring dancers from the past 60 years! With there names and year of dancing!

Yes – we walked by this place of business dozens of times – just wondering what it was –
and found out it was a historical club – for a historical dance some 80 plus years old!

THE SHAG FAT HAROLDS DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY once again – North Myrtle Beach , S.C.
We met them there – John and Nancy and a neighbor couple – Pat and Paul.
It was almost a half way point for us and them.
A beautiful day – they had attended Community Lutheran Church – in Sterling Va. as we did.
We became friends and a little over a year before we moved – they had moved to Charleston S.C.
We have visited them and they have visited us.
Once before we met up in Georgetown S.C.

We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!
Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.
Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.
It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.
It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –
lots of sunshine and very good friends!
Game on – girls vs boys!
They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!
We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!
We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!
Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!
Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.

We had no idea we would end up in North Myrtle Neach.
My friend would ask me WHY we choose there?
Well – the best answer I can give is I came across this condo –
on a site that listed houses and condos for sale!
I expanded the search area and this picture or one like it – came into view!
I showed it to Sherry and we decided right there and then we would rent it!
First – for three months – then we extended it to five months –
all because we looked and looked and decided it was just as good to build –
as it was to buy! We could have what we wanted and not upgrade someone’s home!
So – we made our choice in Cameron Woods – across the border into N.C.
It would be a brand new build and we set about making our selections –
and at that time we extended our lease until the end of June!
Which would be a total of nine months!
We tried very hard to stay in this area – but cost and being too close to the Ocean
played a big part in where we ended up!
We can drive one half hour back here to North Myrtle Beach.
We are in a new development – and right in the middle of a dozen golf courses!
We are in the country but a mile and one half to a gas station and a couple miles to a Publix!
In November we signed our contract and made all our selections.
We are on schedule for a early June closing!

On our way back home to NVA – we stopped in Lynchburg to watch Maddy –
Our oldest granddaughter – play soccer!
She starts as a Sophomore – and plays for the University of Lynchburg.
One thing she wanted to do – to get out in the fresh air and hike with her family!
Which we did on this paved trail that runs along the river in Lynchburg Va.
One of our very first visitors after we moved to Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach –
was the father and mother of our son in law – Marcus.
They came down and spent four days with us – playing cards – walking the beach –
and introducing us to a new game called RUMMIKUBE!
We have always gotten along with them and every Sunday – sat beside them in the pew!
Debby and the two granddaughters came for a short visit –
and we took them hiking – which they love to do – at Vareens memorial Garden.
Walking along the ICW and over the marsh.
They will be back as we took them also to the new house build!
Mike and Carol – we lived next door to them – invited us and our friends – we have all been friends for years-
to their lake house in WNY -Lake Chatauqua – for a long weekend of riding the lake in their beautiful boat!
They have extended another invitation for this August – the same group – for four days!
They own a business that sends crews to do commercial painting all over the East Coast
and this year are expanding to the mid west.
Mike – started this when he was very young — and what a company he has turned it into!

In this picture – my friends of the last 36 years for Buck and 40 plus hears for Jimmy!
Jimmy and I worked together and played softball together in the mid to late ’70’s!
In the back ground across the pond on this hole in Magnolia Greens –
sits Buck and Cindy’s new home they built a couple years ago!
I really like this area and would of moved here if we could of found something
like this and in our price range.
Friends and golfing buddies – MEMORIES!
Dottie – Jimmy’s wife and Cindy – Bucks wife – all these years still getting together!
We all moved away from our home town areas.
Yet – at least twice a year we manage to get together –
here we are at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach!
Speak no evil – see on evil and hear no evil!
In the last 16 months – sometimes we struggled to balance social distancing –
and that was very true with family.
Sitting in our garage while the three little ones sat on a tarp in the lawn at the end of the driveway.
Or visiting them standing outside and little Bode hiding behind his parents peaking out at us!
That broke my heart.
But – we have come a long ways on this – we did stay with family after we sold our house
at the end of June last year!
Family is important and we have been tested twice and so have they!
PAPA – can I sit on your lap!
This is at 5:45 am. – while I am writing my blog!
He knows I wake up early and down he comes- when we are not here – he sleeps in!
Last week he asked me on a kids message –
he had called me – “PAPA – WHEN WILL WE SEE YOU AGAIN”?
I tear up when he talks to me like that!
Here we are having lunch after they drove 6 hours – at Crooked Hammock at Barefoot Landing!
They spent all weekend and until Friday of the following week with us!
This made us very happy as they got to see where we are and where we are building our house.
They now know it is but a six hour drive for them to visit!

We had eaten dinner at HOTO’s ( Harold’s On The Beach) and then walked through the OD Arcade ( Ocean Drive)Seeing all the pictures and people were dancing there already.
Even saw a picture of all people the Pro Golfer Sam Snead who had been there
We then walked over to Fat Harold’s Dance Club!
And found this table beside the wall of mirrors so we could watch the dancing!
Cindy and Buck loved it just as we had when we first came here!

I knew both before I met Sherry – Freddie and I went to 7th. grade thru 12th. grade.
We met at a place that was half way to where they live in Florida and to where we were staying!
Great time with old friends. MEMORIES!
We traveled before the Pandemic – meeting friends along the way.
And – – we were careful – as were some more friends we met.
Bobby and I go back to grade school – friends for life.
Sports – a few drinks – camping out – running the streets – never anything destructive – just boy hood memories.
By the time this blog posts – Pam and Bob will stop in on there way back to New England.
They have a drive RV towing a car.
We are all safe – testing and vaccinations.( except Sherry who is allergic to the vaccine)
It will be good to once again relive memories – Freddie – Bobbie and I had growing up!
Fourteen years we attended services there.
John and Nancy moved to Charleston about a year before we moved.
On our way back from Florida – just before the Pandemic – we stopped in and stayed – regaling in memories.
They gave us a walking tour of Charleston’s waterfront and historic district.
A few months after we moved to Myrtle Beach area – we met halfway in Georgetown S.C.
And – about a month or so ago – they visited us at the condo.
Friends – MEMORIES!

present : network marketing from home – 15 years – living life promoting HEALTH and NUTRITION
We were on our way back to the air BNB – looking for a place to stop and eat and we found this little gem.
I can not remember the name but it had the flag of the British hanging outside.
It – was very cool and the food was good.
After we returned home in March – the Pandemic hit.
A few months later – we met our friends in the open air seated more than six feet apart.
Ordered lunch from one of the places to eat for pick up.
And in the middle of the common area ice skating rink – enjoyed ourselves.
Old friends – who live in Az. visited us for a week and we showed them NVA and Washington DC.
When we had gone out there for a conference – after it was over – they picked us up and we went to Sedona.
We also went back to their home and they showed us around Tucson.
It was a great week filled with a lot of historical sites!
I will continue the MEMORIES in the next blog of the past 16 months!

Building our new home – coming back to here each day – soon – it will be over!
We have until the end of June here – a total of nine months-
We never expected to be here that long – but when we decided to build
We extended the months – hoping we would be done and able to move.
We have plans in case something prevents that!
Ready to move out – put excess in a strorage unit we have three miles from our new build
and move in with friends who have offered!
We should be able to move it a little at a time!
We are expecting to close early June and have been told we still are on schedule!
The house is sided and the trim done on the outside – the stacked stone is done.
The roof is complete as is the electrical and plumbing.
The doors and windows are all in and this week the insulation should be done
and dry wall next week.
We are moving forward – and we have memories and pictures such as these!
We love it here – but – no garage and not enough storage space for what we have.
This area is great and we are only one half hour away.
We can visit anytime we want – there is parking by the beach.

Eating healthy has become a way of life for us going on almost 16 years!
In that time I have learned how to BAKE rather than fry!
I have learned low carbs – no gluten – low sugars – and GMO’s.
My life is far different than all those years gone by.
I WATCH WHAT I EAT!
I have learned over these past 15 plus years.
I take it very seriously!
Living each day – I have to stay away from sugars as I am borderline diabetic.
I watch carbs more so that calories – carbs put the weight on me and turn to sugars.
We purchase from this company what we eat for health reasons.
Have been doing this for almost 16 years!
And – the taste – for me – is excellent.
Life is hard – food – not healthy food – is everywhere!
Commercial after commercial – radio or TV – is constant.
Billboards – advertisements – packaging!
Everywhere you look or hear is processed food.
And when not doing our taxes – she makes healthy treats!
Our lives changed almost 16 years ago – she became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH –
through the known children’s doctor – Dr. William Sears – author of 40 children’s books.
Health has become our lives.
Making healthy choices one day at a time.
