The last regular game of the season – soccer – girls – both J.V. and Varsity.
Seven seniors – four have played together for 10 plus years.
Our granddaughters – Maddy Meyers – varsity – & Ella Myers J.V. – both play for James Wood H.S. in Winchester Va.
The J.V. team – Ella is the starting Midfielder – finished the season 10 wins 2 losses 3 ties .
The Varsity – Maddy is the starting Midfielder – finished the season 12 wins 3 losses & 1 tie – having defeated the teams they lost to and tied.
Seven Seniors
We have watched – traveled all over the East Coast – stayed in hotels – packed food – eaten out – made friends with other parents and grand parents – for over eight years.
NUMBER 9 – MADDY MYERS
And sadly – it is about to come to a end – well – almost – as Ella will be playing the next two years !
Maddy – who is district all conference – will attend the University of Lynchburg Va. on a letter of intent – starting this Summer as all incoming Freshmen report for a week of camp for Soccer.
Debby and Mike being escorted onto the field by Ella.
Now – the district playoffs begin – James Wood is the number two seed – it was a four way race – the tie kept them out of first place – as that team ended up in first with one more win.
Debby – Maddy – Mike
Very proud on what she has accomplished – as a Freshman – she started Varsity – she also opted on her own – to move from the Winchester travel team – to Loudoun County soccer travel – the RED TEAM – D.C. area – higher competition – traveling the entire East Coast for weekend tournaments – driving 60 miles each way three times a week for practice – ( her mother Freshman – Sophomore and Junior years driving ) winning the ESPN tournament if Orlando Fla. when she was a junior.
All the while maintaining a 4 . 10 GPA – taking college courses – very – very proud of this young lady.
She selected the college from a list of 4 or 5 – and is now ready to move on – with a lot of emotional tears from her parents.
NUMBER NINE MADDY
It will be different next year as number NINE moves on – to be filled by number TEN as Ella moves up.
A host of records were set this year by the team – and Maddy and Katie P ( # 13 ) – who have played together for over 10 years – she is attending DeSales University in Pa. – with Maddy playing Midfielder and Katie forward – Katie broke the school record in scoring 74 goals and assists. They play so well together.
Maddy shot on goal.
Soon – graduation is right around the corner – but first there are the State playoffs. I do not know how far they will go – but I do know how far they have come – from little girls playing co-ed – to grown ladies – playing the best competition they could on the East coast.
Maddy taking a header in the middle toward the goal
So today we move on – Friday is the playoff game – hoping they place to move on for states – our little grand daughter all grown up.
Sherry – Maddy – Tom
The next step- University of Lynchburg HORNETS – going to be some awesome road trips !
I hope you enjoy my tribute to one we have loved for 18 years –
one who I remember picking up from the babysitter –
The years went by so quickly – fourteen to be exact. When she was four – she started playing soccer. It was at that time – the ball seemed to be almost as big as she was !
Our Grand daughter – Madison ( Maddy ) last week signed her letter of intent to play college soccer at the University Of Lynchburg in central Va.
We took the 60 mile journey to Winchester Va. to James Wood H.S. where she is in her last year – for a celebration by the school – and the other part of this story is that her friend and playmate for the last fourteen years – ” Katie P ” also signed her letter of intent to play at the University DeSales in Pa. !
They both had played as four year old’s all the way through H.S. including travel teams in Winchester and the last three years traveling 65 miles one way – three times a week for practice with the Loudoun County Red team.
Maddy has had this goal in mind for a very long time and with all this she still has maintained a 4 . 10 GPA ! Katie also has done the same.
Her college team is going to be a three hour drive for us – which in my mind is ” ROAD TRIP ” something we both enjoy.
Very proud of the young lady she has become – from being the smallest on the field to a strong midfielder who has become defined by her coaches as the ” FULL PACKAGE ” , everything comes through her on the field.
And as you can see – she has grown into the part – taking after my wife who with Swedish heritage – is 5 ‘ 9″-
Maddy certainly has those genes. Another day in PAPA’S WORLD – living healthy and life to the plus !
This is so true I remember my mother buying me what was then called “Blue Jeans” They were so baggy and the “IN” style then was skin tight black or red socks and high top black and white tennis sneakers!
So – I signed up for my site
and began writing short daily happenings
I called them ” JUST ANOTHER DAY IN MY LIFE”
And numbered them from the day I started in sequence!
This is true in our oldest daughters house open a cupboard and there are all these containers with no lids!
I started to accumulate “Friends” outside my old friends.
And they were from all over the Country
and some from the World!
Most I did not know personally
But through our “Home Business”
I was too much for some people but I wrote about my life and the lives of my loved ones and the lives of my closest and dearest friends.
I determined that from reading the daily paper
and watching the news
That I would bring POSITIVE – FUNNY
and GOOD thoughts to my site.
There fore I very seldom do anything Political.
I keep it pretty much as I stated
Which is getting hard to do with
everything going on.
I so believe this and hope one day that we all can be nice to each other
Then – my wife found a site that will publish
your face book writings for certain time periods
and publish them in a book form.
My one desire is to write a book on memories I have.
She choose a six month period and had it printed
It is so cool – with my picture on the front –
However – I had written so much –
That if I had them all printed –
there would be TEN full books!
I most likely in my younger years could of truthfully stated this! LOL
And she said this would be too expensive
You need to write and put it down
where we can all read it!
So , I did , eight years ago –
I started a blog – I wrote a lot but then for some reason
I quit and believe it or not – I LOST IT somewhere
IN THE CLOUD!
I could not find it again and had never written down the site!
All those things were gone but she told me she had met a friend through networking named Belinda who could get me started again on a new site and a new blog! A BIG HUG TO BELINDA
So – we met – and she was talking me through the startup!
When lo and behold – we found one of the two old sites!
Yes – I had two sites and we stumbled over one of them.
It had 4 blogs and I was on my way!
That was last April – and today –
I have written over 200 blogs
and have accumulated 180 FOLLOWERS!
From all over the WORLD!
I have finally found my passion writing – family – friends and sharing my life
The main thing is –
When I am gone – my memories will linger on.
I have no one left that I grew up with as family
except two niece’s – three great niece – and great – great niece and nephews.
My two sons – but the rest are gone.
No one remembers that life of or came before!
Today I am the eldest the one whom they call when they want to know about family Today I am all that is left to remember to put it all down
So – I write – everyday – I put down thoughts
I put down memories
I put down current events and family
THIS IS MY BOOK !
Sherry and Tom 2019 70 years old
I have lived a good life – ups and downs –
Almost gone
but still here.
I record trying to stay true to my beliefs
FAMILY- CHURCH- GOD – FRIENDS – COUNTRY
” DO THE RIGHT THING”
” DO ALL THE LITTLE THINGS RIGHT – AND THE BIG THINGS –
WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES”
That is how I have lived my life.
Yep – this would be me!
I leave you with a quote –
“It’s not for me to question why? But for me to do or die”
When you get married – I think you both need to think about this!
” You have to get on face book – all your friends keep asking
about you”! circa 2011 or 2012!
So – I joined and made lots of old and new friends –
And then – about three years ago – it happened!
Sherry – independent free thinker church family country I love her for that
She asked me what I thought –
She wanted to march in protest
#metoo Women’s rights The women’s march in DC.
ONE MILLION WOMEN and she wanted to represent
herself and her daughters!
I have always encouraged her to stand up –
We do not always agree on the same things
but we agree to disagree.
I have always believed in equal rights for women.
She went three years ago – I watched it all on TV.
Some of the things she saw and heard upset her.
Mostly she was proud she made a statement
and I was so proud of her – she would talk to me
she would tell me what was happening
And it was all good until she posted on face book.
The first message came in PM Not to me but to her from a friend of mine I grew up with ” I don’t understand why you and all hose women are there” ?
The question –
I thought “REALLY” !
But – since we were friends –
we talked it over
and she explained to him!
She did it for her self worth – her daughters and to protest
the new amoral administration.
She did it for the inequality and looking down to
she had to see and hear in her work life.
The unequal pay – and yes being harassed.
“He did not see any of that in his life – nor his wife did either” he returned.
And so it went on – as the years passed a few more quips then I became involved
About a year ago – I BECAME INVOLVED –
she had asked me not too-
over the previous years.
I answered – and it was a long answer –
but also based in facts.
She hugged me and said ” I wish I could think like that”!
“It was perfect – you did it the right way” !
There never was a reply – but during other conversations
I sensed he was not happy with my answer.
Then – a few months ago – it got worse-
and I could see from that on face book
it was as though it reflected the way the White house
also was responding more and more every day.
They were the same – more and more ugly.
One post came through – we were coming back from something
And Sherry had been following the little girl from Sweden
Her heritage –
and she marveled at the strength of her and her message on climate change
( If you think it not happening – then I can sell you the Brooklyn Bridge)
It was so nasty as she read it – to the extent she should be shot and burried
She was mentally wrong in the head to put it in mild terms
he used something else –
She was reading this and then she said
” I do not want you to read this ” and she deleted it!
She made it so that he could not see her posts .
And asked me not to get involved.
He started to make comments on my posts attacking people who commented on my post PUSHING BUTTONS
When I posted what I thought to be a funny comparrison
I post funny – good and thought provoking quotes –
pictures and jokes every day –
to make people smile and have good thoughts.
I very rarely do Politics
And I keep it clean.
But – out of the blue he attacked the post – my friends and me.
He was doing to us what is being done every day from the White house
almost as if he were given the go ahead to do whatever he wanted!
But – in my life – I can see a BULLY when I see and read one.
And – it is not going to happen on my own face book page.
We can have a discussion we can frame our words not to be nasty we can agree to disagree but you are not going talk down to me
I answered him for myself and my friends-
In no uncertain terms
we could remain friends but this was going to stop.
He did not like it and came back in a unflattering
description –
That was it – I replied and told him I wished him a healthy long life
and May the peace of the Lord go with him
But he was done on my site – and then I blocked him.
Over 55 years of friendship I can see this happening all over and it is a tell tale sign of just what comes from the White house divide It is not the party I grew up and loved It has gotten ugly
I had many messages –
both private and on the site
Applauding me for standing up –
not bowing before a BULLY
and also stating facts –
not groveling in the dirt
I have slowly been not following people who post ugly – cruel posts
I see a lot of posts that simply are not true
The disinformation is real
they post without fact checking
sharing really ugly and slandering posts.
I would hope in this new year that it would get better
But as long as it comes from the top
it will – I am afraid become worse.
This is my setting the record straight blog a lot of people saw what took place and asked me about it I will not stand by and see my wife harassed or my friends bullied I WILL BEND BUT I WILL NOT BREAK
Today is my putting my mind at ease
as it has bothered me
I do not take it lightly those 55 years of friendship
Unknown to us – this Castle would become a controversy at one of the debates!
When we were in Northern California with our friends –
we visited Napa Valley – and choose two wineries to visit-
This is the Castle we picked over google –

FIVE grand daughters ONE grand son!
We are blessed to have the grand kids nearby.
And of course the one boy is loved- esp. Ella & him
He adores her and she him! Ella far left.
Where we started this blog At the Castle outside the “WINE CAVE”
I could go on and on – 2019 has been a great year-
We traveled into DC to watch our twin grand daughters
sing in a fourth grade chorus of 110 classmates!
Papa – Bode & MorMor
But first we had to get there – so we took Bode on the Metro!
Five year old grandson Bode
And you can see the excitement in his eyes!
Riding the train!
Coming up at the Regan Center
We arrived around 3:00 pm. The girls were to sing at 5:00 pm.
So – we walked to
the Elephant & Castle to have lunch!
MorMor ( Sherry) & Bode
We were going to meet Tammy and Marcus
and we killed some time before going back outside
in the wind and cold –
18 degrees wind chill!
Marcus Bode Tammy We met up but the gates were closed because somewhere there was a incident we never learned what it was!
So – we walked up the street to Old Ebbit Grill
And they had some wine
and got warmed up!
Tammy and Bode at Old Ebbits Grill
When we walked back down the street
we found all 110 kids standing outside the gate
they still were not allowed in!
We found Taylor and of course as always a big smile!
And then we found Cassidy so darned cute in her purple hat and scarf!
Soon – the secret service and the park police arrived
and opened up all the gates –
Then it was onto the Christmas Tree stage
The stage with the White house Christmas tree behind it!
It was really cold and the wind was blowing
All the kids were ushered into a big tent
where they grouped up – got warm
and waited to come out!
The director of the choir and Cassidy in Purple climbing up to her spot on the top row
Cassidy ended up on the top row – and you could see her rising
up and down on her tiptoes to be seen! LOL
Taylor ended up in the front row
Then they began to sing – and I was very impressed!
The Madison Trust fourth grade chorus
They sang five songs – and they were really good –
All are classmates of the fourth grade in the school they attend.

Soon – that word – meaning like just around the corner – is about to happen!
Our little grand daughter Maddy – with her “PIGGY” – which went everywhere she went. Just outside Sherry’ s parents home.
She now is 18 and about to graduate and start a brand new journey at The University of Lynchburg, Va. And signed a letter of intent to play soccer.
Maddy sitting next to her sister Ella at Raquet Lake N.Y.
She has grown into a beautiful young lady – who maintains a 4.10 GPA. Playing soccer at a high level.
Here she is with her two other sisters and her twin cousins. With GIGI who sadly passed away last November – Sherry’s mother.
Through the years – when she was almost as small as the soccer ball – she played – co-ed and then onto two travel teams. One in Winchester Va. and then – to better herself- she traveled 60 miles each way three times a week to practice with the Loudoun RED soccer team.
Forever young in my mind.
The years have swiftly marched by – all the games in and out of state have passed – memorable only in so many pictures taken. Now – she is about to take the final walk on stage – graduate and then go on.
Her drawing years ago of her ” PIGGY” as she called it – so innocent on a swing – memory of sweet youth.
The memory of the little girl – always smiling – always so small – everyone else was so much bigger until the growth spurt of the last few years. Today – she is almost as tall as her grandmother Sherry who is 5 ‘ 9″ !
She has grown into her role as starting midfielder the last four years.
Three sisters – the start of college – leaving the home – and two behind.
The years have gone by so fast – the other two will be left behind at home – but her presence will always be felt – her favorite “PIGGY” on top of the stuffed animals – her MANATEE blanket on the wall. The trampoline will only feel the bounce of the younger two. The sound of the soccer ball will be down to one – her memory will remain – but her journey begins.
Her determination – all conference – signed letter of intent- to play college soccer
Today I blog not a end or an old story – but the beginning of a new book – a new chapter and a new page about to open up – the little one has gone into memory – but the image still lingers in my mind – PACA – is what she called me – I think because she couldn’t quite say PAPA – but she made my World – and I look forward to the travel to watch once again. The memory shall always be with me – the little foot striking the big soccer ball -and then the smile and off she would go.
SMILE A SMILE FOR ME MY LITTLE MADDY
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did writing it – my tribute to the little one – the soccer ball almost as big as she is.
Today I post a story – a story written not by me – but by a friend.
A special friend and a special story for all.
Wishing you a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year
The story takes place years ago –
in the memory of a little girl
Her mother – and siblings
” A CHRISTMAS STORY”
Tiffany Ford
One of my favorite Childhood Memories of Christmas was the year we couldn’t afford a tree. I don’t recall who had the idea, but it was decided that we would put nails in the wall in the shape of a tree & string lights on them and that would be our tree that year.
We lived in an apartment at the time, and our neighbors were very confused about all the banging! To my childhood self, that tree was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
I grew up very poor. After my dad moved to another state with his new family, it was just me, Mom & my brothers.
Mom worked hard, often at multiple jobs, and we cleaned offices as a family in the evenings to make ends meet. In spite of this we still sometimes needed housing assistance & church pantry meals to get through.
We lived on generic everything, Dry Milk, Ramen & loads of pasta & potatoes. I am honestly so grateful for all of it. I never look back on my childhood Christmases & think “I wish we had more”.
Because even in the years when there was enough money for gifts, I couldn’t tell you what I received. What I do remember is the look on my mom & my brother’s faces putting up nails for the tree on the wall and the faith that our family would have Christmas no matter what.
We were the freakin’ Who’s down in Whoville. If all we did was play board-games & color & eat spaghetti it would still be Christmas, and it would probably be more memorable.
Maybe that’s why I’m not super traditional about Christmas, making do with what you can find forces a person to be flexible.
🎄I remember the blue stuffed dog I got from Toys 4 Tots he was my favorite for a really long time 🎄I remember the 4 of us lying on our bellies coloring in the living room waiting up to see if Santa would come. 🎄I remember the years we were each allowed to pick out our favorite cereal, even if it had Sugar in the first 5 ingredients 🎄I remember the mornings that we found a box on the porch with a turkey breast & a bag of potatoes so we could have a real dinner. 🎄I remember my brother and I removing the labels from the tuna cans & rolling them across the floor to each other 🎄I remember Mom was not amused the year the “Santa box” had both tuna & cat food cans 🤣
The year we had the wall tree, some friends from our church showed up a few days before Christmas with a real tree & a stand for us. They helped us set it up & decorate & we cried happy grateful tears.
If you ask me though, the real tree was never as beautiful as the lights on our “tree” on that wall.
I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re struggling financially this year, know that your kids will be ok. Real magic never comes from things. The real magic in life comes from the unlikeliest of places.
The places where we struggle, stumble, fall on our faces, learn which friends will help us to rise, and discover the person we have become as we climb back to our feet.
Happy Holidays my friends, whatever holidays you choose to celebrate may this season fill your heart with real magic
We walk – we eat healthy – but the mental part is also important !
Our roses out front
A healthy body also has to have a healthy mind – at least mine does !
So – when we moved into our house thirteen years ago –
I started digging up – replanting – moving – shrubs – putting in trees
( 3 Crepe Myrtles ) and numerous rose bushes – flowers that came back year after year.
Crepe Myrtle out front
I had to dig these trees on my hands and knees – being so many rocks ! With that being said – when they bloom a bright ruby red – I just love them – and it all was worth it !
Ninety five per cent comes back
Flowers and color do a lot for my mind and peaceful thoughts.
But – as you get older – weeding kills your back – at least mine !
So – this year – I bought the mulch from the boy scouts – and actually paid them to spread it around – 25 bags !
It was well worth it and half the cost of anyone else.
Flowers and flags
These roses will bloom off and on until Fall – most everything in the beds comes up each year.
Walking home – when coming in sight of the house- gives me a great calming thought – seems like any stress just goes away –
and that is for my mental being.
Front steps and door
Sherry always plants the planters around the house – in back -the patio and the front porch.
So – when people visit – the visual of flowers – the welcome mat – sitting on the front porch or in the enclosed patio – brings calm – that is why we do it .
The back patio and Tower Gardens
Each year – in the back – we plant flowers and the Tower Gardens –
which provide our vegetables daily.
In front of these are the other two Crepe Myrtles that I hand planted – all the trees and bushes here I also planted.
Yesterday’s harvest from our strawberry patch
We also grow our own strawberry’s – enough to provide us each morning for breakfast while they last.
Living a healthy lifestyle – to reduce stress – we plant – we grow and produce vibrant colors all Spring – Summer and Fall.
We actually grow even in Winter inside our garage.
For a stress relief – try flowers – smell them – watch them grow –
