Papa’s World – after moving into the new home – our first official walk on the beach!

Ocean Isle Beach – N.C. the first time to walk here after moving in!

The beach is but 4.5 miles away – shorter if you are a crow!

We live in Cameron Woods – part of Ocean Ridge but across the main highway from it.

We are on the mainland – three miles to the causeway over the ICW!

We actually have a choice of two beaches – for Sunset beach is two miles futher in the opposite direction South!

And if we want to travel – we are 16 miles back to North Myrtle Neach where we have lived the past nine months!

The beach here is different – the sand a darker shade – not as flat and the waves seem to be rougher !

The beach also is not as wide as NMB or as many people!

People surf and ride the waves more here.

The water is very warm just like NMB!

And we are finding our way around!

There are music concerts throughout the Summer and into October on Friday nights!

Getting there is a major problem as we tried to attend the free concert and got stuck in a three mile

traffic jam trying to get across the causeway!

So – we truned around and did not go!

We are learning – do not go at the last moment – go early – walk the beach – have dinner and then get the chairs out and pick a space to chill and wait for the music to start!

Both beaches have these concerts on different nights as does NMB!

Right across the street form our home – Ocean Ridge – such beautiful skies here.

Papa’s World – Tigers Eye – Ocean Ridge Plantation N.C. – golfing with friends.

Sherry and Cindy – we do a scramble – husbands vs. wives – and we can not beat them!

Try as hard as we can – we can stay even – first nine we lost by one – we pared and they birdied –

they never get into trouble – if one does – the other is in the middle – just consistent –

they are almost always putting for par and when they are on with the putts –

they will beat you!

This is Ocean Ridge Plantation – right across the road from our new home.

There are four courses in here and this one – TIGERS EYE is the second one we have golfed on.

This is called the bIG CATS courses – all named after the big cats of the world.

LIONS PAW – PANTHERS RUN – LEOPARDS CHASE and this one TIGERS EYE!

We have what is called the FIRST TEE CARD – all four of us – and we can play 32 different courses on it at almost half the going rate for the course.

We have fun first – laugh a lot and plan our shots – but – hey – they are tough to beat!

They play the ladies tees as does Buck – I play the senior tees.

The courses here in NC and SC are mostly all like this – except if they have a special theme.
Very challenging with lots of water and sand traps which the sand I found off my drive on every hole!
There is wildlife and water fowl all over and most courses here have “Gators”!

You just are careful – looking always for them and watch for snakes in deep grass or wooded area.

Papa’s World – birthday dinner with Sherry at Sharkey’s – Ocean Isle Beach!

The sunrise on Sherry’s birthday – 7-5 looking like a wonderful day.
Before we celebrated I said ” YOU READ ME THE DIRECTIONS” and I will follow – three hours later we were done!
We decided to go to Sharky’s just off the causeway bridge to Ocean Isle Beach with views of the little harbor and ICW!
This is just outside of Sharky’s – sheriffs dock and ramp. Sherry did not know NO TRESS-PASSING until I spotted it!
Before we ordered a little selfie.
The wait was not long and the view was boats coming and going – refueling or picking up to go dinners!
This is what she wanted for her birthday dinner – fish tacos!

It was a very good day – from unpacking to putting the first of two desks together for our home office

She selected where she wanted to go and being so close – 8 minute drive – and then after – a short walk on the sand of the beach at Ocean Isle Beach –

We are but 15 minutes to another beach SUNSET BEACH!

Papa’s World – first walk after moving in the new home – Ocean Isle Beach – water – WARM

Sitting in our lanai – we decided it was time to take a break from unpacking and enjoy our first walk on the new beach!
Papa walking the surf line – the water was warm! Made me want to have my suit on and wade in!
The beach here is not as level as NMB or as wide and the waves on this side of the pier – are rougher!

This is the view looking North after you enter the beach by the community center where the showers and bathrooms are – a large volleyball net is here as well as a very long walkway and deck system.

dThe beach also is not as crowed as back in NMB!

This is more of a resident area beach!

Looking South toward the pier – we walked down there to the other side and it was not as rough or the waves as big!

Papa’s World – a view from the new lanai in the new house – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

This is the third home we have built – one in Fairfax Va. one in Brambleton Va. and now in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

When we came down here in late September of 2020 – we had no thought of building a new home.

We simply wanted to check the area out and were interested in the Leland area.

Our friends lived in Magnolia Greens in a golf course community.

We had been visiting them for almost 25 years and loved it there.

But – at that time we had a number in mind and could not find anything to buy.

Our new enclosed lanai – with chairs we saved from the old house.

So – we moved on – to North Myrtle Beach to stay a few months – check out the area and fell in love with it!

The problem then became – while we could find homes in our price range – they all needed updated!

Just not our taste and way to much work to do just that!

We searched for condo’s – but the problem was space and storage and a garage to protect the car.

Then by chance just wandering into a new community and the model – Sherry whispered to me –

I love this concept and want this house!

So – we checked it out and with all the upgrades and getting exactly what we wanted

we were still in our price range!

We would move into N.C. six teen miles from North Myrtle Beach area which gave us a half hour drive back to.

We would be right in the middle of all the golf courses on our first tee card

and almost one half hour closer to our friends in Magnolia greens!

The view out back – the tree line is protected and will not be cleared out!

We signed the contract in mid November and completed the sale and closing on July 2nd. 2021.

We are in our happy place – when we go to the beach – it is a eight minute drive with no traffic

and a 15 minute drive to the other beach.

We are but 2 1/2 minutes to three places to buy food – and lots of bars and grills.

Our doctors are twenty minutes away as is the major hospital.

AND GOLF – four courses right across the street!

AAAHHHH – cup of coffee – sitting on the glider – front porch – early morning – just me!
A look down the street at the houses under construction – we have been told by end of August – this street will be done. The sunrise from the beach some 3 miles away.
Looking West where the sunset will be. Farther up this street is the last phase – already cleared – infrastructure going in. I would guess most likely another year or more before that will be done – but there should be no more construction activity in our area after the end of the year.

After that relaxing morning coffee on the front porch and it being Sherry’s birthday – I told her –

PAPA’S WORLD Living life to the plus one day at a time!

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing again with friends – a place to stay when lease ended.

Our condo lease was up – our closing did not happen – so they took us in once again to their home –

on Magnolia Greens golf course just outside Leland, N.C.

Buck and Cindy are our friends – before we all moved – we were neighbors back in WNY.

We moved into a house next to them some 36 1/2 years ago and we knew them before that.

I have always known him as BUCK – never called him Bill.

About 15 years ago – he developed non essential tremors – and had a brain operation – where electric probes were implanted – with out them and the control under his skin on his chest – he would not have any control on his right side – arm and leg. The downside to having this implanted – is with it turned on – he loses his clarity on speech –

and has problems with balance. But – he still can golf and handle himself well – I drive – watch his ball –

and we get a handicap flag that allows us to get near his ball so he does not get so tired out.

He is one of my two best friends – the other Jimmy who I played softball with back in the mid ’70’s.

We all are close friends and Dottie – Jim’s wife – I have known as long as Jim.

The three of us grew up in the same small town of Eldred Pa.

Cindy and Buck grew up in Portville N.Y. just across the border and Sherry grew up in Mount Jewett Pa. aboput 35 miles away.

Sherry spotting Cindy’s drive – Buck waiting – let me tell you – both ladies seldom get out of bounds or in the rough.

They are right down the middle and anywhere from 130 to 175 yards!

It makes them tough to beat – I golf from the senior tees – and when I get a good drive – it still is about even with them

as they have a advantage from the ladies tees.

Buck – because of his condition – golfs from the same tees as the ladies –

so a lot of the time we use his ball on the scramble –

He can still hit it almost as far as they can.

We play even up – no strokes – and this time out – after 18 holes – Buck and I lost by one stroke!

Their second shots are like the drives – and close to the green – a chip and one putt for par or worse two putt.

Sherry and I just love to play – get out – fresh air – and a lot of laughs.

Cindy has a traveling shot bar!

If we make a birdie – it is shot time – since we make few of them – she switched it to pars! LOL

They pared – we boggied – missed putt – and that was the difference in the 18 hole match!

Papa’s World – the day we left – all packed!

It took everything I had to pack this up!

But – I did it!

I tried to use every nook and cranny

Taking everythin we could as we will be gone five months!

Back seat drivers side – yes – that is a sewing machine

I promised Sherry I would work it in and I made it happen!

We had to drive 6 1/2 hours to arrive at our friends house

for a surprise birthday party

so I packed with this in mind

and had the back packed so we could remove what we needed

as we were staying six nights!

Our friends are just awesome and welcomed us with open arms.

we ended up playing three times with them

a total of 45 holes.

Everything here had to come out

and move into their house!

We got our exercise packing and unpacking!

as nothing up there would come out

until we arrived at our final destination!

Yes we are seniors by 16 years!

But we did this all by ourselves.

Papa’s World – last days at the condo and walking the beach – Ocean Keyes NMB.

Everymorning – when we wake up – me really early – Sherry – laying in bed to open her eyes and see this.

We – for nine months – have been blessed – staying – walking – listening to the surf – all from this condo.

One last beach walk – wading in the warm ocean water – me carrying my shoes – the numerous tidal pools

people sitting in them -a look at the North Myrtle Beach proper – widest beach on the strand – walking –

comfort – the people -we will be back for it is but thirty minute drive for us.

After the beach walk – once again sitting on the lanai – awesome view – going to miss this!

When we return – I sit on the rocking chair on the lanai – or at the table – watching the water fowl –

seeing the huge fish from above and the endless turtles.

The otter that comes to swim and even a snake or two swimming –

No gators have I seen and was told there is none.

Swans come and go and at the far end – three white ducks I have named Huey – Dewey and Lewie.

Walking to the fridge and claiming the last German Pils – just for this occasion – salute!

It has been a memorable nine months – meeting people -having numerous family and friends visit us here.

Walking to the main street and all the live music both outside and inside.

The golf carts – the tourists and the six swimming pool here.

The pickle ball courts – the tennis courts – the work out room and the community center –

It is but a small piece of heaven -but it is heaven on earth.

The party was held at the family house in Lake Holiday – Cross Junction Va.

Their father – through the years – developed a phys ed. course for the girls – balance line – zip line –

trampoline – climbing wall – tree house – soccer nets – and in winter a snow board run.

Living out in the country – they were raised to hike – kayak – conoeing – swimming – walking and running.

Over the years he taught them the soccer skills they have – now both older girls play soccer in college.

The younger sister – prefers dance – acting and writing – directing and producing videos.

Her dream is to one day go to NYC!

The three sisters – Ella – 17 years old Maddy – 20 years old Sarah – 14 years old – growing up in nature – camping.

Ella – when she was young we all called her TINY – today – she stands almost 5′ 9″ tall!

Papa’s World – a last view for now from the condo – full moon and Fat Harolds.

Full moon from the lanai – you can hear the pounding of the surf 1/2 mile away.
Of all the places we could of stayed – I think we did pretty good in selecting this one!
Dimming sunlight before the full moon barely visible.

We have gone to Fat Harolds numerous times – we like the beach music – not knowing it was called this!

Back home in the early years of my life – this was just music played on the radio

and on TV when you watched those dance shows!

Had no idea about the SHAG or the way Southern Rock was danced down here.

Here we are at Fat Harolds – listening to the band SMOKIN HOT – eight members playing the beach sound in music!

Funny how you grow up listening to Alabama – Eagles and all the other music of our youth –

and since the ’40’s this was happening right here!

The history of the surf music for almost 80 years

Papa’s World – our Leesburg family – little ones – mother & father and now Marley!

Marcus – Cassidy – Tammy – baby Bode – Taylor THE KROHNS!

They now live just outside of Leesburg Va. about 30 minutes from where we used to live.

Whenever we do go home – we have a bedroom and bath in the basement – along with a suite of other rooms.

There is a walk out to the fenced in back yard.

Out there is a fire pit – huge patio and a pergola – multiple chairs and some rockers and a outdoor table and chairs we left behind.

A Boce court that was there when they bought the house – really beautiful setting!

The back yard fountain next to the patio and fire pit.

Now – there is a new addition – MARLEY – the goldendoodle – Tammy’s dog – that she wanted – a big dog to walk!

Marley and Tammy – waiting for the storm to roll in!

She has always wanted a dog – but it had to be THE DOG!

The kids love her – Taylor has a way with her as she does with horses!

She – Marley – has now become a major part of the family! Here – she sits looking at the neighbors Mastiff – she runs over and they race back and forth on each owns side of the fence.
Marcus has now taken up cross country on his bicycle – going 89 miles through hills – gravel roads etc. in a race with other’s – finishing well up in the pack for his first race!

Papa’s World – graduation – party – family!

Ella’s sisters – Maddy and Sarah at the graduation – hard to believe that come fall – Sarah is the only one left at home – she enters H.S, in the Fall and Maddy enters her Junior year and plays and starts soccer for Lynchburg University. She will play against Ella.
Ella’s number one fan – her nephew Bode who adores her – here he is wearing Ella’s old sweatshirt she gave him!
After the game – he ran to her and she picked him up – he adores her and she is so good to him. That is our Ella!
The Three Sisters – Maddy – Ella and Sarah.
Ella’s mother Debby – Ella – her best friend Olivia and her mother Amy – they have lived beside each other all their lives and the mothers are close friends. What also is unique – they have Sarah from Debby and Justin from Amy who are also the same age and in the same grade who are as close as Ella and Olivia.
Sarah and Justin – same age – same grade and close friends – neighbors for life.

Papa’s World – Last full day – journey into the Blue Ridge – Visit BEAR CHASE brewery !

GOOD MORNING

We were down to our last full day !

So we ventured not East – but to the West –

To the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va.

We were going to relax after three days of non stop touring !

So – we took in Bear Chase Brewery –

on top of a mountain –

with views of Reston – Tyson’s corner –

40 to 50 miles away !

We arrived and only a few people were there!

We had a late lunch
and a few brews

We have been here on weekends when it is packed

both the brewery and the yards !

Lots of nooks and crannies
to enjoy friends
around a fire pit !
A air B&B you can rent
just walk to bed after a night party !

There is also a bar opened on the lawn when it is busy

and a menu for food

close by is another brewery and a winery

along with Mt. Weather where it is said

the Vice President was taken on 9 – 11 !

Next blog – final day – morning walk –

the streets of Brambleton Va.

OUR HOME

Papa’s World – morning walking – making a loop

This is where it all begins each morning.

Sunrise – a cup of coffee

the stillness of nature

and – when we are dressed early

out the door and down the elevator

to begin our walking loop

of three plus miles!

We had excellent trails where we lived

some 18 miles

here we have discovered numerous ways to walk

and they all end up taking us to the Ocean and Beach!

We have managed to get at least a mile of beach walking

incorporated into our three mile walk.

This walk was 3.36 miles!

And once on the beach – we can go in either direction.

We have found routes in both directions!

I love walking in the early mornings.

And as you can see – it is nearly deserted!

Walking early after I have had my coffee –

listening to the early morning sounds

and the waves lapping against the shoreline!

Once again – the walk on the beach

leaving to start back home

that part of the walk over

One final moment – one final glimpse

only to be repeated the next day.

Papa’s World – Toes in the water – beach life!

Finally we have made it to our dream –

We always vacationed at the beach

up and down the EAST COAST!

Today – until the end of February

we will be next to it!

Sherry and I sold our house and rented a condo

one half mile from the beach

in North Myrtle Beach – S.C.

We did this because I just happen to come upon

this rental – and the view of this small lake

from the top floor lanai!

OUR VIEW EVERY DAY!

And the bonus – during our three mile plus walk everyday

half of that walk is on the beach!

Of course said walk comes after my morning cup of coffee!

Why for five months?

Because we do not know where we want to live

only that it will fall someplace

from here to the northern border of N.C.

We have always talked of this

But where ever we go – the criteria is twofold

We will try to stay within 7 hours of our families

in NVA.

And a place that is warm – no snow – and lots of golf!

We did not know at the time just how much Sherry would come to love this place!

Being here – it is warmer than where we lived in the winter

and we walk everyday –

hardly any traffic as we walk within a gated community –

until we cross a road to the beach.

And then after a 1/2 mile walk – we have this!

I LISTEN TO HER THOUGHTS!

She has leaned over to me and said

” I REALLY LOVE THIS WALK AND PLACE”!

A QUIET PLACE TO WORK ON HER PHONE!

And now today all grown up – nearly as tall as her grandma Sherry – off to college in the fall and part of the soccer team – in Lynchburg Va. for Randolph College.

Papa’s World – walking home from the beach through Ocean Keyes – part three!

One of six pools – this one has the work out room in it and this pool is heated! A propane grill and sometimes two are at each pool area with others scattered through out the property.
Our little postal building – one of two in the Ocean Keyes that I know about – this one is a five minute walk for us. We mail out here also.
HHHHHHHHMMMMMMNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!! Not saying anything! LOL!
I told Sherry – I would like these flowering bushes in our back yard along with several Crepe Myrtles! This also is the closest pool to us – right across the parking lot and not many people use it. It also has grills and bathrooms.
Turned the corner from the postal building and heading to the stop sign and turn left for one more block. The lake is straight ahead between those buildings.
After turning left – then you walk the length of one building and turn right – the parking lot is here and building # 39 is on the right. We are on fourth floor in number 44!
The last walk in front of building 39. There are old – old growth tall pine trees and living oaks all through Ocean Keyes -I would guess well over 100 years old or twice that!

The parking lot – where we park our car – we would of loved to stay here and we could have – however – there is no garage and little storage – many people have units for storage off site.

Papa’s World – walking home from the beach in Ocean Keyes – NMB – part two.

The small building to the right is golf cart storage and a trash compactor building – the one to the left is for golf carts only. You are on a list here for golf cart spaces – that is the only way to get a spot to park it.
Sherry walking by one of Six Pools just like this one – the two on the main road through Ocean Keyes – have a community building – with TV – pool table – ping pong table and chairs and tables. This one has the work out room with all types of equipment. Each pool has a hot tub and a small wading pool. There are propane grills and picnic tables outside and each pool has men and women bathrooms.

The complex has over 780 individual condo units and town houses – this at one time a golf course called The Old Gator Hole! I think in the mid 2000’s it was sold and made into Ocean Keyes plus two other developments including a plaza with Walmart and Home depot.

Her on the left is one of two trash compactors we use – this one also has recycle bins while the other does not.
On our walk we pass the tennis courts and pickle ball court where we have played pickle ball with friends.

As we leave the beach entrance we use almost every day – and walk back to the condo – a two block walk to the gate.
This is the property just before we enter the gate at Ocean Keyes – We love this house and grounds!

This is along the sidewalk outside the fenced in yard – almost everything here comes back every year!

They have irrigation out here as well in the enclosed yard. It is shaded by Cypress trees –

and it is a inkling to what is inside the fence!

As soon as you walk through the gate – you see these three white ducks!

I have given them the names of HUEY – DEWEY and LOUIE ! LOL

Sherry – who is a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – will run ahead of me – then turn around and come back – to get her heart rate up – but I think she sees this sign and off she goes! LOL

I have to keep up or the sign in RED is for me!

We were meant to be!

Papa’s World – Star Wars – Hollywood Studio – Disney – a dream come true!

Outside the entrance to Hollywood studio’s – where we took Ella for her 16th. birthday present.

She opened the envelope at her birthday party in July!

There was a picture of Star Wars and the attraction in Florida at Disney World.

“You will spend one week with grandma and grandpa in Florida!

You will ride down with them at the end of Jan.

and go to Holly Wood studios to see Star Wars

and at the end of the week – for the first time ever

They will put you on a plane and you will FLY back home!

Bode – who his World is Ella – and she is so good to him.

We had done something special for Maddy when she turned 16.

Her wish was to be able to swim with the Manatee’s!

So – in the winter – she and her mom flew down –

and she did just that – and then we all drove back home!

Ella – her little buddy is Bode

He follows her everywhere and she just laughs!

She is so good to him and when she goes to college next year

She wants to become a Phys Ed teacher to the little ones!

She will be excellent – so kind – so much of a good heart.

And a very good soccer player.

We spent the time touring with her also – showing her where my brother lived

and the three town centers of The Villages!

We went to see the Manatees and the beach on the West coast

We toured the town where we were staying – and stopped in the coffee shop

to get her a chocolate chip cookie each time – she loved that!

Soon it would be time for her to FLY!

Standing in line as we all watched – her forst time and she handled it like a pro.

Tears welled in my eyes –

my little Ella ( tiny) is what we called her

all grown up and out on her own.

Now – be careful – don’t mix with strange people I worried.

When she was small – she would always come to me – clutch my leg –

climb up into my lap.

I cherish those memories – “IS HE OKAY” she said to her mother

when I had my heart attack.

YES I HAD A LUMP IN MY THROAT

as I went from vantage point to vantage point watching her in the long line.

Ella and Sherry – a trip she will always remember.

Papa’s World – golfing at Leopards Chase right across the road of our new house & Fish Market to eat dinner with friends!

One of the reason we choose this area to live in – is the number of golf courses available to play!

There are four 18 hole courses right across the road in Ocean Ridge Plantation!

Another 10 to 15 courses within 10 miles or less!

And – our close friends of 30 plus years – a 40 minute drive away.

Our first tee cards which we all have – most f the 32 courses are right here.

Papa and Buck at Leopards Chase golf course at Ocean Ridge Plantation – home of the four BIG CAT golf courses – we are building right across the highway from them.

We have now played this course twice – but there are three more here that we plan on playing.

Our card cost $100.00 for each of us – but you play three times and it pays for that amount in savings.

There are 32 courses on the card and most price reductions are more that half!

We have a lot of fun and laughs – we try to get out once a week – selecting a different course each time.

It so happened that we had played this course back when we first came down here and it is right by our new home.

Then – during our play we select a place to have dinner – and try to make it with a view –

and not to far to drive – most courses are equal distance for all of us to drive home from.

Sherry and I have been here before and had great meal and service – and it was the same this time!

They had a fishing tournament going on and where wrapping it up!

Two $30,000.00 prizes given out!

We got to watch them cleaning up their fishing boats and then walked over to see the catch –

We had very good food and service – within 15 minutes of sitting down we were eating and the place was packed!

A good day of golf – great friends to share dinner with – and looking forward when we can do this again.

Papa’s World – almost complete – new home in a couple weeks – dreams come true!

This is the new house – most of the outside is complete – and the inside is almost done.

The kitchen and to the right – the breakfast nook.

The floors are all done as is the carpet and tile.

They move pretty fast when they all show up to complete what they have to do!

The text message came yesterday – we are still on schedule for a walk through on 6-22-21 –

which most likely will of happened by the time I post this blog.

The screened in covered lanai off the breakfast nook and sun room.

Master bath – tiled shower.
The tiled shower – all the tile came from where we both worked for a combined 79 1/2 years! DAL TILE CO.
We choose to make the shower and linen closet bigger and not have a bath tub in here.
Looking back into the master bedroom from the bathroom.

We were able to pick what we wanted for the house – as long as there were options.

Second bedroom – a hall bath is between the two front bedrooms across from the office and by the front door entrance – the entrance is covered as is the front porch.
The third bedroom which is on the side of the house.

It is almost done and we are two weeks out to closing which by the time I post this – will of happened.

Papa’s World – new trails -roads – paths – new neighborhood – new chapter for walking health.

Our new neighborhood – Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – mainland side – North Carolina

We decided to walk the new trail at the end of our road before the culdesac.

This winds around the pond and through the woods and back to the pond again.

These lots were our first choice had they been available – but they were all purchased – in fact – someone backed out on our wooded lot and we grabbed it right away as we wanted a private back yard.
This is the smaller of two ponds and maybe a third they are developing – the other larger one is in the new construction area and am hoping this trail will eventually be tied into that one!

The new construction area is just over that treeline which is considered a wetland and is protected and will remain that way.

Into the woods – the path winds through the wooded area and in the shade – a lot cooler on a hot 90 plus day!
Sherry walking the path – birds were everywhere! There were areas where it looked like other paths would be planned and paths expanded.

The walk was about 15 minutes long – not quite a mile – but this is only one place to walk –

the other places all together add up to another 3 or 4 miles!

Here we come out of the woods to the opposite end of the pond from the start.
Now we are walking into the culdesac which is behind the tree line in our back yard.

We also could of chosen a lot back in here – but these houses would of been a later closing date.

Papa’s World – the new home landscaped – irrigation in and trees planted!

In a few days we will close and be in!

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –

May be one of the first things we change!

But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –

plus a live oak tree in the front!

Here is my favorite – front porch – covered and in shade most of the day!

I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –

this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –

plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!

The back of the house – master bedroom to the left – open patio center and the covered enclosed lanai.

We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!

The lawn runs to the treeline – which will not be cut down – and these will be the only houses you will see on the other side! This is a protected area – can not even touch the tree already down.

We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!

We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.

We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.

The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.

If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.

Papa’s World – My first thought when we walked main street – all the golf carts we were back in The Villages!

They were here early – starting just back from the entrance to Fat Harold’s Beach Club where we go and watch them do the Shag dance!

There are a lot of golf carts in North Myrtle Beach – and they actually block off this portion of Main Street –

and make it into one big tail gate lot for golf cars – and there is no one way they park.

The are front to back – sides – going in different directions and by the start of the music – jammed in there!

Sherry with her chair on her back as we walk down the side walk toward the beach – this was early – about one hour before they were scheduled to begin the music!
Some carts parked facing away from the beach – when we walked by here later – they were almost all touching each other – just enough room to walk about – chat up your neighbor and sip a drink – somehow they had set up speakers in the middle divide and the band could be heard through those speakers – actually sounded better than where we sat.
Looking back up main street across Ocean Blvd. Now these carts are all facing front but behind them – they are in different directions – I think at the end the police help them get out – we did not hang around as lightening was coming from upo the street behind these carts! The rain did hold off – later in the night.

The SHAG DANCE started!

HOTO’s also is here as well as the OD TIKI HUT and radio station 94.9 the SURF!

The music was good – although in different areas as we walked about – it was better – must be where we sat!

The crowd was big and this the second concert of the season which goes every Thursday night –

till the end of October!

I am happy for the merchants as it has been a long 15 months of the pandemic.

I think the vaccinations plus the number of people who already have had covid19

has brought us closer to herd immunity.

The clouds were moving in – we both had rain alerts on our phones and behind us toward rte. 17 – thunder and lightening! TIME TO GO HOME!

Papa’s World – Friends – then the rain came – golf inside – walk in the rain – finally beach!

Our well laid plans for a day of golf went out the window as the storm moved in and stayed all day!

We had planned this for over a month – we would golf on Sunday – at 1:00 PM. but – it was still raining at that time –

So – we did the next best thing – we had a putting contest – in the condo!

We laid out a nine hole course – even a dog leg left – short putts and long putts!

We used clear plastic cups as holes – all you had to do was hit the cup –

and even one hole went from carpet – to regular floor – and if you missed – you rolled way past to the front door!

Dottie – on hole number seven before the carpet – over regular floor – to front door hole number 8!

It came down to Jim and Cindy – tied at end of nine and still tied after extra hole playoff!

Then it was closest to the cup with out going past it.

Jim won by just a couple inches!

The rain slacked off – enough that we decided to go outside and walk to the beach!

Jim – Papa Cindy and Dottie and a surfer dude carrying his board!

The surf was up and large waves!

It was not raining hard and soon let up!

The beach and surf – hardly anyone there!
Okay – rain stopped – Jim and Cindy checking out the water with their umbrellas!
We went back to the condo – picked up our chairs and drove back to the beach.

Jim – after a while – went for a swim – it was warm and so was the water – well – a little chilly!

We stayed for over a hour – and hardly anyone was there!
Time to go back to the condo – fix dinner – relax – play games – even though golf was a wash out –

we had a fun day – putting – walking in the rain and then enjoying the beach by ourselves!

We had gone to Crooked Hammock Brewery to taste beer –

and then decided to head over to the newly opened Land Shark to grab a late lunch –

Sherry and I come here all the time to walk – doing a couple loops will get us 2 1/2 miles!

We really like this better than Broadway on the Beach.

There are more places to visit here and sit!

This all sits on top of water on the lake!

We planed to eat and then go to Fat Harold’s to watch Shag dancing later!

Before our friends arrived – we took our walk to the beach!

They would all be here by noon!

So – we walked – and then we went back and waited for them to arrive!

Back to front – Jim – Dottie – Sherry – Buck – Cindy and Papa.

Our first stop on Saturday afternoon would be Barefoot landing – and Crooked Hammock Brewery –

where the gals would do a flight of four beer tastings.

The guys already knew what beer they wanted!

Sherry has been trying beer and staying away from her Vodka and Tonic!

So she is slowly acquiring the taste as the rest of us drink beer.

Here we are along the ICW – looking at the boats!

NOTE: we normally do not drink – only when we get together with family of friends –

we go weeks on end without – mostly drinking healthy shakes or water

coffee ( me) tea ( Sherry) – I am for the most part a light beer drinker –

I do not like wine much or hard drinks –

Sherry = prefers when she has a drink – a wine of her choice or Vodka and tonic and not many of them.

Sunrise – walking the beach – well – a few hours after the sunrise! LOL

Families are important to us – today – our youngest daughter and her family!

Cassidy Bode Taylor Marcus Tammy

The three little ones as I call them!

They get so excited when they see us – Bode being the only boy with five granddaughters!

BODE TAYLOR CASSIDY – they call us PAPA and MORMOR ( mothers – mother in Swedish)

We go home and we stay with them or with Debby and Mike.

Deb and Mike live just outside Winchester Va. and Tammy and Marcus just outside Leesburg Va.

They now have another addition to the family – MARLEY – she is a Golden-Doodle!

She is such a chilled back puppy – but still a puppy with sharp teeth – she behaves with Taylor –

but with Bode and Cassidy she terrorizes them with those tiny teeth!

Taylor and Cassidy – born fraternal twins – Taylor has always been the bigger of the two – I think when she is all done – she will be close to six feet tall!

Cassidy always says – someday I will be bigger! But – she is of average height – more like her mother –

Taylor takes after her MorMor who is 5′ 9″ tall!

Papa’s World – on the Autumn of Life – sunrises – family – Part Two !

It never gets old – every morning is different – as are the nights – I will miss this view in a few short days!

Our Condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach – found simply by accident – and now almost nine months later –

We will move out and into our new home – if the closing is on time!

But – here is what we look at each morning – the lake – the wild fowl – the houses – the fountains – trees –

I love the rees!

And family – little ones climbing trees!

All or most of the family has come down – Mike and Maddy have not made it here.

The little ones love to explore – play on the playground at Barefoot Landing.

Family is really important to us – and keeping the time to get here manageable!

In our new home it will be six hours for one family and almost seven hours for the other.

They can drive in one day and be here early enough to enjoy!

Family time – beach – exploring – warm weather – new home – new neighborhood.

The Myers family – our oldest daughter and the oldest granddaughters – Debby – Ella – Mike – Papa – Sherry – Sarah and Maddy – our first granddaughter – Ella was second and then Sarah.
Ella a senior – next fall – enroll at Randolph College – will play soccer – her H.S,. is undefeated and about to enter states.
Sarah – in the middle of Taylor and Cassidy – Sarah is the youngest in her family –

Sarah wants to act – design – fashion – dance – no sports for her – although I secretly believe she would be awesome – still growing – Ella at 5′ 81/2 ” – I think she will be taller – and Taylor will be tallest of all – only 10 years old!

Maddy – oldest grand child with the youngest grand child – Bode – only boy – Maddy is going into her third year of college at the University of Lynchburg where she also plays soccer – carrying a 3.85 GPA!

Family means a great deal to us – even though we are down here – they have visited and we have gone home several times – staying in each family homes with them.

We are in the Autumn of life – but a life we choose – living life to the plus – one day at a time!

We have had many adventures throughout the 40 years plus we have been together.

Soon – on 6-25-21 it will be year number 39 of marriage – plus 1 1/2 years before that!

We have lived in five different houses that we owned –

Plus a condo we have leased for nine months –

and soon to be house number six in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

We have lived in Pa. NYS. Va. S.C. and in the new home in N.C.

All in all – every day is a new way to celebrate life – positive thoughts – challenges and moving on together!
Soon it will be here – the new home we are having built – we started out just wanting to see where we would end up – and soon it was seen that buying would not work – too much to change so we decided to build and let our lives adapt to the new future.
First – in our lives are friends – family and new people we have met and a new home church.

Each morning while sipping coffee – I marvel just how far in these 39 years we have come.

The road was not easy those early years – we had nothing but each other and kids – from two separate marriages.

Combining to sets of children – with hardly any money.

But – we made it work and pushed on.

Today we are here in our happy place – together on a new adventure – holding onto our dreams.

Papa’s World – walking a nature trail with Debby in Winchester Va.

A picture along the trail in a display for a resident hiker of the Appalachian Trail she took beginning to end.

This is all part of the Shenandoah Museum complex in Winchester Va. A hiking trail – through the woods.

Sherry took all these pictures as we walked about three miles!

The pathway is very wide – I would guess eight feet and all made up with crushed limestone! There are benches to sit on the entire walkway – and areas to sit quietly – a really nice walk and easy on the feet!

We have walked this every time we come to visit and now in late spring – the flowers and trees are full!

Papa’s World – our granddaughter – Ella Myers – senior night soccer – honored!

We made the trip back to NVA to see Ella play soccer for her senior recognition night and picked up the three little ones so they could cheer her on! Taylor – Cassidy and Bode.

Ella will continue on in college playing soccer for Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.

She lost two years with injuries to her feet breaking a bone in each one.

But – she was determined and it paid off.

Her team is now 8 – 0 – 2 and headed to states.

They have five players continuing onto the college level!

They ended up in a double overtime tie for the game – 0 to 0!

They moved onto the districts –

But we were able to come home and watch four games.

Papa’s World – on our first night staying with our daughters house – STORM rolls in!

We had arrived and settled in from Winchester – Lake Holiday – Cross Junction – our other daughters home.

The day was uneventful until late afternoon – the sky turned deep gray – and the clouds seemed to be rolling!

They were scary – rolling across the sky!

A storm was coming!

It was like this in front of the house also – the wind picked up and we could hear thunder in the distance

to the West.

In the distance – sort of pink clouds – but overhead – dark gray!

Lightening began and then the rain came!

The wind picked up – looking out the front window – I could see the major portion of the storm –

coming over the hills toward us – flashes and then the thunder.

Then the first time we lost all lights!

The electric went out!

The rain came in hard – beating against the front windows!

The lights came back on!

The thunder continued and flashes of lightening!

Did not seem to phase the newest member of the family – MARLEY!

The electric went out several times and came back on – the rain got harder – later we learned trees had come down

and one house was struck by lightening out Winchester way and burned down.

It was a severe storm – first one of the late spring – and then the lights went our for good!

We all decided after it calmed down – with no lights but still a little daylight to see –

to just go to bed while we still could see.

Later – the electric came back – I think it was out a couple hours – and then we had to get up and turn lights off!

A eventful first night back at our daughters house in Leesburg Va.

Papa’s World – little Krohn puppy – Marley( she) and I – dog sitting!

She is a GOLDENDOODLE – all legs and a cute face that you become attached to!

She is ten weeks old and named Marley – the newest addition to Tammy and Marcus’s family!

They have wanted a dog for years – at least the kids have.

But – I feel deep down – this is Tammy’s Dog! LOL

Marley – she just flops down where ever she is and looks at you with those puppy eyes!

Everyone was gone – kids in school – Tammy and Marcus at work – Sherry meeting friends for lunch and me with Marley – the whole time I had her outside in the fenced in back yard – she would go and hide in the bushes!

Peaking out at me – and when I went over – she thought it a game and would move to another bush!

She really is a sweet puppy – but still a puppy – she has sharp little teeth – and barks really loud!

It was warm outside and she sought out the shade – she would look at me and when I whistled – would come running up to me – licking my legs and hands and wagging her whole body!

But – she is a puppy and like a little child – you have to watch everything she does – chewing – peeing –

It is more challenging than baby sitting! LOL

Marley – under the bush – the other side is a drain spout and wet – she would go there and roll in the mud and dig!
Marley – waiting for me to let her back into the house – she seemed to have had enough for a while!

She wants to go back inside and will lay at the top of the steps and sort of cry!

Then when you go up to her – she gets all excited and licks you as you open the door and inside she goes!

Papa’s World – the trim work is done – the grading complete – doors hung – almost there!

The dormer siding is done – landscaping in and irrigation done – the grass is in even though I have no pictures!
Before the landscaping and irrigation – the grading – has to be smoothed out!
The irrigation in and being tested – the landscaping in – grass has now been added – as has the garage door – and gutters are on – the lanai has been screened in and painting on inside started!
The trim is done – repairs made to drywall and sanded down – painting has begun! This is the sun room.
The lanai which has since been screened in – Sherry standing where door will be to the open patio and fire pit.

We get daily updates from a neighbor – the Quartz has been delivered – I know there was a wait for the tile!

French doors to the office – this is one of the main reasons we selected this model – along with a front porch! The layout provided us a place for desks for Sherry’s Internet business and a place for me to write!
Nice size trees and one more on the other side of the driveway! I like the bushes – and we will develop the back the way we want to plant – we envision large planters of flowers also.

Papa’s World – Golfing at Crow Creek and finally we beat them!

We have driven by this golf course it seems like a hundred times!

This course sits on the right on Route 17 as you drive South to North Myrtle Beach in N.C.

It always looked so well groomed and made you just want to stop and take a picture!

Well – finally – we played it – with Buck and Cindy – our long time friends.

We try to play once a week with them – either toward there home which will be about 40 miles from our new home-

Or they drive down and stay the night as they did here and we golf the next day.

Cindy and Sherry – getting ready to be called up to the first tee!

It is always a scramble – we all hit – and then the gals go to their best ball and the guys do the same.

Then you do it all over again – and they are never in trouble – always down the middle –

and each one hits a good ball off the tee.

Playing the senior tees for us – they have a advantage on their tee box and our drives are about the same.

Plus – they are always in the middle of the fairway and I never know where I will be! LOL

This course is one that when you play it – you want to come back!

I would rate this one right up with the best ones we have played and it was a nice course!

There were so many scenes I wanted to take pictures of – but we had a group behind us that was pushing and a group ahead that was always waiting for the group ahead of them.

It was not to my advantage to take pictures as we waited as the group behind could not see what we were seeing with waiting on the other groups.

So – I just relaxed and waited – along with the gals and when we could hit – they hit first and I hit last.

All in all – it turned into a relaxing golf day as no one could go anywhere and we just played the course.

But – I want to return – and by the way – we finally overcame our losing streak – we beat them!

By a total of three strokes over 18 holes!

They are so hard to beat – and if we could putt – well – that would be a big difference!

Papa’s World – the next day after the storm – we relaxed on the beach – sun and warm sand.

The next morning we walked the beach after the storm and then decided to go back to the condo and pack up the chairs – some drinks and food – music and relax on the beach – RETIREMENT!!!!!!
The beach was not crowded at all being early in the week.

We choose our spot and set up the chairs – took a little walk to test out the water –

But – on either side of us – people had music – loud enough that it interfered with what I had –

So – I just put mine away and listened to theirs – two different types! LOL

Watching them para-glide right off shore – four boats out there – two up by us and two farther south.

We could watch then load and unload the people – hardly stopping – and the crowd on the beach was picking up!

After a night before with thunder and lightening storms with high winds –

this day was calm – sunny – blue skies with white clouds!

Cleared my mind and was a relaxing mid afternoon!

Papa’s World – we golfed a course that runs into N.C. for some holes and then into S.C.!

Beautiful course that we wanted to play – I did not know it was divided onto two states

until after a couple holes there was a WELCOME TO N.C. sign on the cart path!

The hole leading into N.C. from S.C. – this was a old farm and the developed this course –

and a siter course called the Meadowlands!

I do not know the history here on this old farm

but it is unique in that you play two states!

Again – they beat us pretty good – but we had a ton of fun!

Papa’s World – Finally the two Swans returned – by themselves – no babies!

They have been missing for about five weeks – I would catch a glimpse of them to the left of the lanai

Around the bend and through the shrubs and trees – once in a while

Sometimes I would mistake them for the lone swan –

But then I would see it futher down the lake.

Thought maybe they had a nest and were nesting little ones back in the marsh.

The two mated swans are in the top left of the picture while the lone swan is in the middle right of the picture – the first time I had seen all three in over a month!

But – there were no babies and the geese have tons of babies –

So – I do not know why they disappeared and seemed to glimpse them every once in a while through the trees.

That part of the lake is undeveloped and is marsh – swamp – trees and water – not the type of place you want to wade

through or even boat in there – at least I wouldn’t!

I was disappointed in no baby swans but happy in that the were back!

They still would have nothing to do with the lone swan.

This is as close as they would let it come!

Then – last week – a man showed up in a small skiff – he comes once in a while to fix the fountains –

the one we see that is close to us in the middle of the lake – gets clogged up and quits –

I have watched him a half dozen times come in and go to it and unclog it!

This time as he was coming down the lake – I watched the two swans take flight –

beating their wings against the water and become airborne –

they circled around and headed over the houses to the left –

There is another lake over there – I think they went there as they were frightened by the man and boat.

After that we went for a walk on the beach – and have not seen the two swans since!

I have seen turtles by the hundreds – a otter – some very large fish – a eagle several times -osprey – cranes – herons – egrets – storks –

Papa’s World – A mail box on the beach entrance and a journal – FELLOW TRAVELER

It started out with a warm morning – but a breeze early and a beautiful dawning of another day.

We decided to walk early – before it gets too hot!

So – we started out and went to the 10th. avenue beach entrance –

the one where they held EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE on the beach which we attended and I wrote a blog about!

Upon walking the walkway to the deck and stairs – we found a new addition!

It was a MAIL BOX with “FELLOW TRAVELER” painted on top!

Inside was a note book – journal – and already half full with notes from FELLOW TRAVELERS!

There also is one at the end of Sunset beach that was in the news –

I had read about it and how it had been there for 40 years!

And the journals are in a historical museum to be preserved!

Sherry took the journal out and already it is half full of splendid notes and thank yous!

Many interesting reads and dates – so she added her own!

I think this is a wonderful idea.

Papa’s World – Drywall done – cabinets in – tile next – getting close!

We pulled up to the front of the house – DRYWALL in the trash bin!

You see – there has been a delay and shortage in drywall – all over the country –

which has held up our completion by a month! Along with inspectors and inspections!

I was excited as this meant the drywall was being put in!

When I walked into the garage – it had the first coat of MUD on!
Then – I went inside and it was all done – first coat of mud – we were back on schedule after four weeks!

It has been a long four to five weeks with hardly any progress – but we prayed and it is now moving forward.

Looking toward the front from the sun room – to the left – hallway – entrance to the bedrooms and bathroom – middle is outer wall to the office – and to the right hallway to laundry room and garage. Open space is vaulted living room.

And two days later when we visited – the mud on the dry wall was completed – sanded – and we had CABINETS!

We are excited – they told us tile is going in – grading outside – doors to be hung.

Now there is a delay and shortage on PAINT!

Because of the ICE STORM in Texas and the Pandemic.

They told us they would continue doing the things they could until they got the paint.

Our new community – Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – mainland side – LOT # 89!

We are happy – moving forward -perhaps by the time this posts – we will have a move in date!

Our lot is backed by trees that will not be cleared – it is deemed protected wetlands.

We will have lots of roads to walk and new trails going in.

Almost all the purple area has been sold years ago – but no one has seemed to build on them –

maybe a half dozen really big homes!

We do not know why – investment?

You can buy lots there from individuals for a hefty price!

For now it remains paved roads – old growth shaded trees and street lights – utilities

and beautiful green areas and ponds.

Papa’s World – When they were little – now one in college – one to start in fall – one into H.S.

A few short years ago – Maddy ( finished Sophomore college) Ella – (enter college in fall) all grown up now!

Maddy has been named to third team in her conference playing soccer – as a Sophomore she was in the top five on her team in four different categories –

Ella – is playing her last soccer for her senior year – undefeated – and aiming for states. She is one of five or six off her team to have signed letters of intent to play in college – she will be attending Randolph College and in the same conference as Maddy.

Ella – Papa – Maddy – it seems like just yesterday – we were the support team for their mother and father and uncle and Tammy and Sherry running the ten mile Cherry Blossom Race in Washington D.C. – where we stationed ourselves to welcome them all across the finish line! Here we are in our front yard before we left for D.C. They were troopers – following me around – standing up on a bench so they could watch the race! Carrying clothes – back packs – water bottles – everything needed for the finish line that day in May.

As the years passed – Sarah came along – the baby little sister – always making the older two laugh.

She has a way about her – always the forefront of fashion.

Wants her grandma to take her to N.Y.C. to see Broadway and shows!

Sarah – Maddy – Ella and Papa – Christmas eve waiting to go to bed – and wake up for Christmas morning!

I miss those special times – all three sitting at the top of the stairs – waiting for their parents to get up – smiling – laughing – such great kids and polite.

Today – we are scattered – us being in S.C. Maddy – coming home from Lynchburg Va.

Ella completing her senior year of H.S. and Sarah about to enter H.S.

Papa with Maddy at one of her early travel team games – she went on to driving herself 65 miles each way for practice three times a week to join a more elite travel team where we lived in Loudoun county , Va. catching the eye of college coaches – now playing at The University Of Lynchburg in Va.

Thinking back to the early years – the smallest one out there with a skill set – determination and quickness. I always thought she should of gone into track as she ran a 5:40 mile and did not train much!

Now – today all three are so tall – athletic – Maddy at 5 ‘ 6″ Ella at 5′ 8 1/2 ” and Sarah almost to 5’ 8″ ( 15 years old soon)

I miss those days of the three little ones – giggling – laughing – on the trampoline – hiking – soccer – dance – running –

being little girls – climbing up into my lap – singing songs as I picked them up!

Today – they are young ladies with their grandma – the little ones are gone but not forgotten – MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – Friends – last day – golf at The Valley – East port – dinner – SNOOKY’S – ocean

Sherry and Pam – about to start our golf adventure – Pam could not golf – still recovering from a achilles surgery

On their last full day – Bob wanted to play golf – we last played together I would guess 1965 or 1966!

A very long time ago – and he had their clubs in the RV but had not used them all winter.

Pam – who was still recovering from surgery on her heel – would do the driving and Bob rode with me.

Bob and I went to school together from grade one to grade twelve.

They have wintered the last two seasons in their RV – this time it was in Florida.

They made it a point to stop here on their way to family in Nashville before heading home in N.H.

Waiting to tee off – we like this course which sits right on Rte. 17 in Little River – S.C. It is a short course but fun to play. Sherry and I have golfed here alone and with friends.
Now – she hits it on the fairway most times – and every once in a while – will hit it just right and bingo – it goes a long ways – here is a 298 yard hole for her – and this is her drive!

When you play a scramble and her and Cindy hit from the women’s tees – it is good to have them both on your team!

After a good day of golf – we scrambled to a 44 on both nines – we took them to Cherry Grove to one of our favorite places to eat – “SNOOKY’S” on the Beach.

This has become our go to place to take visitors – food is good – and you sit ocean front just yards off the sand.

We have many – many memories of growing up together in a small town in NWPA – called Eldred.

Many adventures of sleeping out under the stars – roaming the streets after curfew at 10:00 PM.

Nothing bad – raid a garden or two – sneak some beer – campfire – canoe trips down the river –

playing sports together – proms – dances – joining the exployer’s together-

driving – family – both his and mine.

Papa’s World – friends – the pier – Barefoot Landing – Crooked Hammock Brewery!

Next to last day – Papa Bob Pam Sherry – near their campground and RV. A visit to Apache Pier!

We had so much to pack in so little time – touring – seeing the house – Mother’s day – catching up – FRIENDS!

Their RV and campground was down the beach about a mile and one half.

They could see this pier from their beach so we decided to drive to it and just take a look around.

Just beyond these tall buildings – 21 to 25 years ago – Sherry and I spent I think three different vacations here!

We would walk up the beach and past this pier to the campground.

So we knew what was here and have many fond memories of her parents – sister and my sister and brother in law here. We also spent vacation time here with friends Steve and Elaine. Our friends from back home in WNY!

Bob and Pam – Bob and I went to grade school – middle school and high school together – life long friends – and got back in touch after one of our H.S. reunions – he had moved to New Hampshire away from Pa. and NYS. Keeping in touch is like normal best buddies do when life comes along – only seeing them at special times – a lot of years in between but memories and laughs renewed!

Here we are at The Crooked Hammock Brewery in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach.

We have come to really like this place and Sherry actually likes some of the beer!

Papa’s World – Mother and Daughters – Sherry – Debby and Tammy! Beautiful inside and out!

Dreams – mother and daughters share the DREAM!

They laugh – cry – hold one another – all the while sharing life together – even though they are 300 miles apart

The bond exists each and every day!

Debby – the oldest – Sherry – known as Grandma and MorMor – Tammy – the youngest.

When we decided to move to NVA in 1999 – Tammy decided right away to follow us down to Va.

In one years time – Debby moved with her husband and small one year old daughter Maddy!

They have always been near each other – 3 hours away and no further.

Sherry decided to become a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and start her own business from home –

As a away to supplement her retirement income – it worked and she retired early!

Network marketing – in HEALTH and NUTRITION!

Today – that business thrives and allows us the freedom to travel –

move and build a new home.

In that same since – 15 years ago – Debby decided to do the same – with two young children –

And moving out to the country as it was cheaper to live – she also followed her mothers footsteps!

She became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and started her own business from home –

And surpassed her mother!

Today – they both lead “TEAM GENERATIONS” – promoting health and nutrition for families and children.

Daughter and Mother – Tammy and Sherry

During that time – Tammy married – had twin girls and then our first grandson!

She also followed her mother into the Health and Nutrition field – establishing her own home based business.

Along the way she quit her job and opened up a Upscale children’s consignment shop –

And has recently added another home based business – promoting healthy eating!

She now runs three business’s!

And it is because she is her mother’s daughter!

IMAGINE – ACT – EMULATE – LEAD – DUPLICATE – SUCCEED – SUCCESS!

The story of Mother and Daughters – although now 300 miles away – following her in her footsteps –

always in contact – we visit and they visit – zoom – text or call.

Toasting to MOTHER’S DAY with good friends – Bob and Pam and Sherry! CHEERS!

We had planed this little get together for some time now.

They had been in Florida for the winter in their RV.

Moving around down there and then working their way back North.

They were in a campground eight miles from the condo’

So for three whole days – we gave them a tour – but the first day was Mother’s Day.

After their arrival we went down and joined them – sitting around – talking – and we stopped and brought them salads.

Then it was for a very quick walk on the beach where they were camping!

It was so WINDY – we took this picture and headed back to the campsite.

A lot of self control in not staying on the beach for a walk! LOL
The next day we picked them up – toured our new home and discovered the drywall had been installed!

Here – we are at Oyster Rock on the ICW in Calabash N.C. where we had reservations for dinner.

Papa’s World – before the pandemic – Sarasota Fla. Loved this city! Just too far away!

Papa and Sherry – hugging a tree in Sarasota , Florida – we had considered moving here – but it was just too far to drive for family and friends and for us to go back home without flying.

Then the Pandemic hit and it never came back into the discussion again.

But – I really liked it here and if we came to Florida – this would be my first choice!

I do not remember the name of the garden but it is city center – and a beautiful place to walk!
We were among huge old growth trees – a lot of shade and a sort of tree – boardwalk that wound its way

in and through the tree branches!

Papa’s World – birthday – 72 years – growing old and young walking on the beach.

One of my favorite pass times since we moved to NMB – morning walks on the beach!
Sherry told me this was my day – being my birthday – and I said I wanted to go for a early morning walk – on the beach.

Usually – we do not walk this early – but I am a early riser – 5:00 am. each and every morning!

I have been that way my entire life – but I also go to bed early – by 8:30 pm.

I react to what my body wants – if I go past that feeling of wanting to sleep – then I am awake for hours!

But – with that being said – my body automatically awakes the same time every morning!

And then – without proper sleep – I feel lousy all day!

A good nights sleep – waking up – writing my blog – getting dressed and then we walk out to this!

Wide open beach – low tide – gray – white clouds – blue skies and warm sun!

My kind of day!

Papa’s World – a evening with friends golfing Magnolia Greens – late dinner!

A bright sun rise to a eventful full day of walking – getting ready – visiting the storage unit – and finally – teeing off!
Buck on the first tee at 4:40 pm. We were golfing late – Cindy had a lot of stuff to do at work!

So – the plan was made – golf nine – eat dinner and then go home!

We could of stayed with them – but – lugging all the stuff I need – my sleep machine etc. just easier to drive the hour plus drive back to the condo – besides – plenty of more times exist in the future!

We played our scramble format – Buck and me – they played best ball – WE LOST!

Now – we lost two holes to them – one by one stroke and one by two strokes!

We play even up – and we tied the other seven holes.

But – on the hole we lost by one stroke – we parred – they birdied!

On the one we lost by two strokes – they parred and we four putted – just the way it goes!

Cindy – birdie putt – made it – we parred – they are so good!

We have played this format for years and years – we at one time played couples vs couple – then we played mixed couple vs. mixed couple – but the gals challenged us – the other ways split pretty even – this way – THEY WIN!

My buddy – my partner – golfing together – we did beat them a few weeks ago – but we had to shoot a 39 to beat them!

Papa’s World – sometimes – it is relaxing after a nice day – to just sit on the beach!

After dinner – we decided to drive to the beach – get out our chairs and just take it all in for a hour!

Sherry is always drawn to the surf – walking in the water – still too cold for me! LOL

The only downside to this was the wind – it was strong – and would get into your eyes!

Hardly anyone down here even though it was the mid ’70’s out!

We only brought with us our water – and a lot of people walked past us – but only a few sitting on the sand.

The relaxing nature – the quiet – only birds – sounds of the waves.

Here you can see what the wind does when it is strong and blowing – it makes the sand look like waves – no footprints remain even though people are walking by!

It was a good hour to visit regardless of the wind!

Papa’s World – took a little walk – not our usual – but to Broadway on the Beach – then Myrtle Beach boardwalk – THREE MILES!

I said to Sherry – lets change it up a wee bit – a different walk – scenery – and revisit some places we have not been in a few months!

So – we drove South to Broadway On The Beach – have not been there in months!

One thing I did notice – Barefoot Landing seems to attract more people!

Not many people here and it is almost 11:30 am.

We were able to walk in and out of stores – no crowds – peaceful – and a bright sun shine day – warm!
I WONDER WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE? LOL
No matter – we came and did what we wanted to do – walk!

Of course I did not go in EVERY store she did! LOL

We still had a good time for over a hour – walking – looking and yes – sitting in rockers!

Papa’s World – morning sunrise – blue skies – late afternoon – thunder – lightening – RAIN!

Morning sunrise – calm – warm – partial clouds – then blue skies – a start of a beautiful day!

It started out with sunshine and we walked the beach – and the neighborhood –

But – the storm was out there – coming up from the South – West!

We did get all our steps in and had dinner – a beautiful day here in S.C. North Myrtle Beach – Ocean Keyes!

And then 12 hours later – it blew in and it started to rain!

The sky turned from blue to gray – clouds were rolling in – thunder and lightening!

The wind picked up – Sherry started to go out the front door – the side of the condo the storm was coming from!

She had a hard time holding the door so she closed it!

The lightening was bad and the thunder shook us.

This was the first real storm in the day light we have had since being here!

I have to admit – it got a little bit scary!

The wind just whipped the rain almost sideways!

This went on for a couple hours – and lightening on and off!

I do like a good storm to fall asleep with – lightening – thunder and rain – but can do without the wind!

Papa’s World – Fish Market bar & grill – Ocean Isle Beach and the ICW!

The view from the top deck of the Fish Market bar & grill on the ICW & OBI harbor!

We had passed this from the causeway bridge every time we have come over to visit the beach.

And in reading up on it – found that it is the sister bar & grill to the one in downtown Shallotte N.C.

Which we were at one night after playing golf with the McBride’s and loved it!

Here – we decided just to have drinks and split shrimp wrapped in bacon!

I do not do this often so it was a treat for me!

AND IT WAS GOOD and fast service on that top deck.

You go to the bar – get your drinks – place your order – pay for it –

and it seemed like a few minutes a waiter comes up the steps and yells out your name with what you ordered!

The causeway bridge coming over the ICW from the mainland – we are four miles from here in our new house build
The ICW and beyond that the main land – this waterway comes into OIB where the bars are and gas pumps.

There is another bar and grill here called SHARKEY’S and next time we will check that out!

There are also boat rentals here – gift shop and fishing departures.

It is nice to know that we can be here in ten minutes from the new house.

On this Sunday morning we decided after church service at the new church we will be attending –

We decided to visit Ocean Isle Beach – which will be less than ten minutes from the new house!

We need to explore this area as most likely it will be where we go to.

They have a summer concert series of live music beginning the end of May.

So we checked out the stage and open seating area – it is bring your own chairs and maybe food and drink!

We walked to the community center which sits right on the beach –
has bathrooms (clean) and outdoor showers plus covered picnic tables.

Beach access and a volleyball net and court. We found where the public can park for free –

and it will be a great place to take family and friends.

Close walking distance to bar and grills and shops!

One of the two walk ways to the beach from the community center – the other is a long ramp for handicap access! Well thought out and it is open from 10:00 am. to about 5:00 pm.

Papa’s World – lunch at Bouy’s and a street music festival on Main street!

I have wanted to stop in here and have lunch ever since we got here on 10-1-20!

It is a local place right on the beach in North Myrtle Beach!

These places always catch my eye – I just get a feeling about them!

They generally have good food and live music –

and this day – the food was great – a salad with grilled fish – and the music?

Well – right across the street is a block long and a block wide vacant lot –

And it was packed with tents – you could rent – and thousand of people!

A huge stage and three bands playing for six hours!

WE WERE RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE OPENING OF NORTH MYRTLE BEACH MUSIC FESTIVAL!

It is the first major event sanctioned by the town government since the start of the pandemic 14 months ago!

And people were out and about in golf carts – cars – trucks and just walking!

This was roped off and a charge to enter – you could rent out a canopy – and carry in drinks and food!

We did not go inside the ropes – instead after we ate – we walked around and around the whole roped off area as did many other people – they had chairs set up outside the ropes and golf carts – the police were there and ticketing anyone not parked legal.

I would say – inside – a thousand people – or more – I guess this is the fourth one they have had like this over the years – and the radio station was there and it also was broadcasting from the beach which was just as crowded!

We tried to walk the beach – but it was really crowed and full of young people – all right next to each other!

A look back toward sixth street where we usually go – and the other direction had even more people!

This area is pretty much not locked down – and you could tell the tourist season has begun!

I am happy for the the store owners who have suffered so much – many shut the doors and will not return.

But – we decided this was way too crowed for us – so we returned to the music and walked toward our condo.

Pausing once again outside the ropes to listen to a band – really good singing all the classics of summer of the 60’s and 70’s!
