Papa’s World – Watching the BILLS at the LAZY PIRATE

We traveled to Carolina Beach, N.C. to the LAZY PIRATE – A BUFFALO BILLS BAR!

Being from WNY – we were fans of the BILLS from the mid-’80s to when we left in 1999!

We still follow them and try to watch them on TV.

Sometimes we know where different BILLS bars are and go to watch.

Our close friends Buck and Cindy were our neighbors back in WNY and moved first to Leland, N.C.

Through all these years they remain staunch BILLS fans.

Our neighbor Diane and her husband Steve are both from WNY and have a cottage on Rushford Lake where they spend their summers.

A perfect venue to watch the games and of course when they score the song “SHOUT” is played and everyone joins in.

Papa’s World – A little dinner get-together with neighbors at Local on the Water in NMB!

We had 13 peole who made it – good time – was very loud with the music – hard to hear – and we were spread out!

The music was country western and very good – I would go again to just listen and watch them.

The venue here is impressive – but if we come back I would want to eat in the back room where we could talk and visit – and maybe in smaller groups where we could see everyone and hear them.

But – for dancing and or just listening to the band – AONE in my book!

Papa’s World – Taking the ladies to the driving range!

Sherry and two other neighbor ladies wanted to hit balls so I took them.

MARCEA to the left and DIANE to the right.

The ladies will go to Sandpiper on Monday late afternoon for a golf lesson and nine holes of play!

So the two above wanted to hit some golf balls just to get their swings back.

We talked about it and I said I would drive them to the range!

I also hit a few down at the end.

I asked the owner if we could hit off the grass instead of the mat and he put us over on the side!

THIS IS ME – I lose a lot and find a few – but I just like being out there!

SHERRY – DIANE – MARCEA – I took the photo – they soon were hitting the balls – I gave some instructions –

and they all appreciated it – now if I could only follow my own advice! LOL

Papa’s World – On OIB for sunrise – boats racing out of the bay!

Papa – predawn – on Ocean Isle Beach by the groin – waiting for sunrise, cool enough for a hooded sweatshirt – SALT LIFE!

The beginning of the sunrise over the groin on Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Sherry standing against the beginning of the sunrise. We could hear this sound coming from the bay behind us – I thought

it was an airplane as it got louder and louder!

We lost count at 40 as fishing boats raced out of the inlet beyond the groin wall – spreading in all directions!

The loud noise we heard was the roar from the boats as they came out of the inlet to the open ocean!

I can only guess that it might have been a fishing contest and this was the start!

A police car parked to the right of us on the beach observing the boats racing to the ocean!

Whatever it was – it was loud and echoed across the inlet!

We lived in WNY for 50 years – we were there when the Buffalo Bills went to four straight super bowls!

So – it is somewhat of a treat for us to watch them on TV down here in N.C.

Mostly it is the Carolina Panthers on tv down here.

Watching them on tv on a major network was the first of a trifecta couple of days for us.

Our first time voting in N.C, and we decided to vote early – we were able to find a parking space –

which is a win-win – no line so to speak – just a few people – another win-win –

The election workers were pleasant – helpful and did a great job!

No one being rude – no deniers present – or watchers –

this is what it is supposed to be.

The air was warm – the sun was hot – the temps were 78 degrees – NOVEMBER 1st. !!!!!!!

The water was chilly although we did see some people in.

For the time of year, I thought there were quite a few people!

Being able to do this on a whim – sit for an hour – relaxing taking in some rays!

Sherry and I were invited to Harvey and Joanne’s house for a Halloween party – bring a dish to pass – beer and wine were provided!

Of course, we also brought jello shots as did others – To be honest – that is all I had besides some water – I LOST COUNT!

There were some perfect costumes – a couple I did not know who they were until they told us! ( the people)

It was a blast – music – dancing – food – beer – wine and shots!

We left after four hours and walked home – good thing we walked!

It went on for another two hours!

We missed a block party while we were back in NVA!

On Halloween night – I set up the SOLO STOVE in the driveway –

A few neighbors brought chairs and a table and we again had some SHOTS –

no kids trick or treated but we had three hours of just sitting and talking – Impromptu –

Papa’s World – Combination – Halloween and Birthday Party.

The parents – Mike and Debby – held a birthday party with a Halloween theme for their daughter’s sixteen birthday!

Sarah has always wanted to have a birthday party such as this and being so close to Halloween – they decided to do it!

THE SKELTON WAS THE FOCAL POINT FOR THE FOOD AND ALL OF THIS WAS SARAH’S IDEAS!

It was a hit and everyone loved it! The food was almost all gone by the end of the party and over in the kitchen were meatballs – mac-cheese – salads and rolls!

A long way from the mountains I grew up in NWPA!

As a child growing up – I remember many programs I would watch on our black and white TV.

Sky King – Rin-Tin-Tin – Cheyanne – Wagon Train – The Rifleman – Have gun will travel –

Adventures in Paradise.

To name but a few – I remember playing on the front porch and we were talking about Grandpa –

He was little Timmy’s grandfather on “LASSIE” and he had passed away in real life.

Many shows were educational – Romper Room – and Kaptain Kangaroo!

I grew up with this cast from Captain Kangaroo!

I do not remember all the names – but the faces are still real to me.

It was a morning show – as was Romper Room.

As was Commander Tom!

But Sunday nights were really special for me – at 7:00 pm.

We all gathered in the living room – my dad included.

And then the music – we only had THREE TV stations.

ABC – CBS – and NBC!

It was a magical time – before Disneyworld

The shows of Disney were the best in my mind.

I still can hear the music in my mind.

Thank you for going down memory lane with me!

It was a magical time in my youth growing up in a little town on North Main Street in ELDRED PA.

TV programs were a way for my imagination to see the rest of the country.

Even if they were in black and white.

I have many more memories of back then to tell and will in blogs to come.

Papa’s World – Senior day tailgating – University of Lynchburg, Va.

Part of the tailgating at the field at the Unversity of Lynchburg, Va.

We had a spot in the upper parking lot – we could set up from 10 am. to 11 am.

We would be there until after 6pm. at which time we would make a dash across town

to Randolph College to watch Ella’s soccer game.

First – we would watch Maddy play – tons of food from all the tailgaters – live music

Alum games in Lacrosse and then a file hockey game –

Women’s soccer and then men’s soccer.

It turned into a beautiful short sleeve day! Sunshine – lots of folks wandering tailgate to tailgate –

smells of food and great company!

To honor her sister on this senior day – Ella wore a shirt from the University of Lynchburg

to honor her achievement in both studies and her four years of soccer

three of those four years a stater and this year a captain.

Ella herself has started and played in every game starting her Freshman year and now as a Sophomore.

She plays midfield for Randolph College.

On our walk back to the house from taking care of two cute dogs while owners are away – SUNRISE!

And once again – a look to the East on the same walk!

It is so peaceful and quiet on the road in our development before all the workers arrive in front of Sherry!

If you want peaceful settings in the country – yet only four miles to the beach and six miles to the other-

than Cameron Woods Community – OIB – just might be where you want to look!

But look fast as only 35 to 40 homesites remain.

When completed – some 150 homes will be here – along four ponds – a walking trail and a beautiful community center.

Two to four miles to Food Lion – Publix and Lowes and several gas stations and bars and grills.

Four golf courses right across the road and summer live concerts live 3 or 4 days a week within 8 miles!

What seems like only yesterday – has been 22 years in the making!

Early family picture before Bode and the twins not walking yet.

The three oldest are on the left with their parents – Maddy – Ella and Sarah – on the right – Taylor and Cassidy- the twins.

Maddy – now 22 – Sarah – now 16 and Ella – now 19

I remember all three – on Christmas day – early – sitting at the top of the stairs – giggling – waiting for their parents to wake up and go down for their stockings!

This picture would have been about that time!

Ella and Sarah are tall like their grandma – Sherry who is 5’9″ – both Ella and Sarah are as tall or taller.

Maddy is 5’6″ – like her mom.

Maddy is a senior in college – Ella a Sophomore in College and Sarah is a Sophomore in H.S.

The time has gone by so quick – the little ones are all grown up and now are SISTERS!

By that, I mean confining with one another – all there for each other –

although years separate them – bonding keeps them close.

While not living right at the beach – we do have two beaches four and six miles away!

We moved to the Ocean Isle Beach area of North Carolina – eight miles to the border of South Carolina.

The locals call it THE SALT LIFE!

We call it living our dream.

Yes – we have already experienced a major Category One Hurricane – IAN!

And we will tell you it was scary with the trees!

Bending sideways – East to West!

We decided we will leave if it goes past a TWO and a direct hit!

We left what we thought to be our dream retirement home in NVA!

But – the stock market went down and the home values went up – time for change – time to sell and move on!

Warmer weather beckoned – we wanted out of the ice and snow.

We wanted to golf as inexpensive as we could.

We found it all right where we are – 100 golf courses – warmer weather and close beach life.

Kayaking the ICW and the marches of OIB and Sunset Beach.

Retirement – friends – family (VISITORS) have kept us busy – exploring – entertaining –

loving every minute of it!

Papa’s World now – no regrets – living the SALT LIFE!

Our friends – Bob and Pam came in their RV to a campground near us for a four-day visit.

On the last full day here – we all got up before dawn – we stopped by to pick them up –

and we went to Ocean Isle Beach to the far North East end – to see the sunrise.

The weather had changed – a hurricane was coming into Florida and a cold front had arrived!

The beach was deserted – lonely – awaiting the storm to come through in a couple days.

The sunrise starts on a cold gray morning and an almost deserted beach.

We should have done this! LOL, It was breezy and cold.

This would be as good as it would get – time to go!

Our granddaughter – Maddy – this is her!

Never the selfish one – always the one who gives – both in life and college and on the pitch in soccer.

She works hard – her degree will be in Engineering Science – a 3.85 GPA.

Maddy is on the right with her teammates and roommate.

She is up early before sunrise to hike and run – when she visited us this last spring – she was on the beach for sunrise – capturing pictures and filming – her minor is Photography.

She runs – she hikes mountains – and most of all – a team player.

Maddy – not celebrating her own goal – but that of a teammate – that is Maddy!

She distributes the soccer ball from the left wing position – pinpoints passing and so fast in doing so.

She loves to score – but she loves to see others do the same.

Dedication for four years straight – a team award for going above the recommended physical fitness regimen for her team. The BELL AWARD was given to those players pictured here and for four straight years, Maddy has achieved that award from her coach.

The four years have gone by so fast – she has done this on her own since she was a sophomore in H.S.

Granddaughter Ella and Sherry – she is now taller than her grandma!

We came to Lynchburg, Va. for a family get-together and to watch both granddaughters play each other in college soccer.

Maddy is a senior at the University of Lynchburg and Ella is a Sophomore at Randolph College.

Both are starters on their teams.

Tammy’s family would join us later in the week – she came down with Debby and her family.

If you are ever in Lynchburg, Va. check out this colorful exhibition from local artists!

Located on a hill street just off the main street – on both sides – local artists have rendered a colorful

pallet – enticing you to stop and look!

Many paintings decorate the bricked walls.

The street even has been painted a rainbow of colors!

The street seems to go right into and through the door!

The alley is colorful on both sides of the street – and also serves as an entrance to a dwelling on the street!

We had a family get-together at an Airbnb in Lynchburg, Va. to watch our granddaughters play college soccer vs. each other.

We walked the historic area and came across what is called ART ALLEY!

This is all done by artists of the area – bright – colors – designs and paintings!

Papa’s World – When sisters compete on the soccer pitch – one last time – priceless – both captains!

Randolph College – the University of Lynchburg – one a sophomore – the other a senior.

Both colleges are in Lynchburg, Va. Ella is a sophomore, Randolph – and Maddy is a senior.- Lynchburg.

Both start on their teams – Maddy a wing and Ella midfielder.

Sad this most likely will be the last game they play against each other – but as a family – MEMORIES!

And then THE HANDSHAKE AMONG SISTERS! MEMORY!

And then the procession out onto the pitch – Number 10 white – Ella and number 13 black – Maddy.

For us as grandparents and as mother and father – there is no winner and no loser !

For the granddaughters – bittersweet as for the second time – Maddy’s team has won.

Ella never came out of the game – and she has now started and played every game as a freshman

and now as a sophomore – the only freshman to accomplish that.

She will be a very good player when it is all said and done.

Maddy is ending her career for a third straight year as a starter.

Lynchburg has gone to the NCAA tournament for 16 straight and won a national title in 2016.

Wearing the same numbers all the way through – youth – travel and HS teams.

Since they both could walk with their father working with them on ball handling and passing – shooting and footwork – they both take the corner kicks for their teams.

Today Ella has grown so tall – almost 5’10”

Maddy will graduate in Engineering Science with now a 3.85 GPA!

No one lost here – proud parents Debby and Mike – the tradition of the family – love of soccer and life.

We play scrambles with other couples – friends – guys vs. gals!

You take the total of your 18-hole score – then you get deducted one stroke for every par the other team made – and two strokes for a birdie and so forth.

Surprising – most scores then come down to one or two strokes – or even.

Buck Dottie Cindy Jim Papa Sherry – all these years friends.

We have tried other ways – giving and taking strokes – handicaps, etc.

And it all is in fun – but I will tell you – we tied the first nine and the guys won the second nine by one stroke while carding a 35!

THEY ARE THAT GOOD!

Friends are priceless – all these years – song on 40-plus years.

We later went on the ICW on a pontoon boat – cruising up and down – a few drinks –

a lot of laughs and some singing.

Papa’s World – ELLA – playing college soccer.

Our granddaughter – Ella – became the second sister to play college soccer –

Her sister Maddy is a senior wing for the Unversity of Lynchburg in Va.

Ella is now a Sophomore and started and played every game as a Freshman – the first player that the coach said has done this.

And that string has progressed through seven more games this year.

Number 10 Ella Myers for Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va.

He only takes her out for a short rest and most times he doesn’t take her out.

She is really good at middle defense and passing the ball.

Her position is forward midfield.

Soccer and college are now her life and she is living it to the plus.

Sunset the night before – going to be a cloudy day – not the sun beating down on you!

The following day – cloudy – then blue skies and white clouds – warm and breeze – a perfect day to walk the beach.

After the gray clouds moved on – we were on the surf line walking – the water was still warm.

Why we moved to the border of S.C and N.C.

Being only four miles away – we can pretty much come here when we want!

A PERFECT DAY TO WALK OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA

Stepping out the front door of our house in Cameron Woods to the morning sunrise!

We choose this lot because of the sunrise and sunset from our driveway!

You look right to the East and left to the West!

We have been here going on fifteen months – and have had numerous sunrise and sunset skies

that is absolutely beautiful!

We are in OIB but on the mainland side – six miles to Sunset Beach and four miles to OIB.

The sunrise from the backyard – all the tree line to the right is protected!

Our backyard borders a protected area – it can not be developed or cut down – the second reason we chose this lot to build our new home!

As we progress into the future – we have carefully had the landscape done – replacing pine straw with stones and mulch – eventually going to all stones and borders.

We also wanted an open patio and a firepit – along with a place to grow our own organic veggies – which we have done now year round!

This is now our third harvest since early spring – and are going on our second harvest of cucumbers!

She finally talked me into purchasing a grill and we often grill out here – we have no gas and the house is all electric – and electric stove tops we have found are hard to keep clean – thus I grill! LOL

My wife’s sister came to visit – she is moving here in a few months when her condo is finished.

She wanted to get the feel of how to get around and how to get to the beach which will be four miles away for her.

We have two close beaches – OIB which is four miles away and Sunset Beach which is six miles away.

In a few months, the SALT LIFE will become hers also.

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing with friends on a Friday late afternoon.

A call came on Wednesday – can you make 4:30 pm. if I make tee times on Friday?

Of course, we can – make them and we will be there – and so we did.

Sherry and I left early as we wanted to do some things in Wilmington, N.C.

Unless we go for a certain thing or event – we do not get there all that often.

We were golfing at Magnolia Greens located some eleven miles from the city.

Our friends live there and I think it to be one of the better courses down here.

Twenty-seven holes – and we were playing just nine this late afternoon.

Now it looks like we are looking for balls in the water – but we were in a huge sand trap on a par three – Cindy was raking the sand and Buck and I were picking up my ball and going to play his on the grass.

We once again played a scramble against the ladies and once again we lost!

We had a couple bad holes – but we also played well – here we are on in two – par four hole and a putt for a birdie – which we did not make and ended up with a par.

You can see where Bucks putt went and I had still had to putt – did not make it and we settled for a par.

It turned out to be a great day – beautiful weather – no humidity – 80 degrees!

We teed off shortly after one PM.

If you scored a par – you gave a stroke to the other team – birdie was two points.

We have been handicapped this way for the last few times and it gets really close!

This is all of us – just playing for fun and being on the courses – unless you play guys vs gals!

But we also have laughed – shots – and some good golf and not-so-good golf!

What a great way to end up the long weekend get-together.

The end of the first nine – TIED!

You have to play very well to just tie them!

YEP, a few choice words left out there! LOL

The second nine – we played really well – boogie first hole – then six pars and two birdies!

Cindy – always straight down the middle – she has game!

There are a lot of days I feel like this! LOL

Well – we tied the first nine and shot a 35 the second nine –

and won the whole scramble by ONE STROKE!

They are good and we had to shoot as good to beat them.

It was a wonderful three days – but for Mike and Carol – they had to fly back to WNY the next day.

The rest of us had one more day and were planning to golf on Oak Island that same day.

We have been friends for 35 to 40 years.

Neighbors – and hometown friends.

Jim and Dottie – who lived in the same town I grew up in WPA.

For the last, two years we had gone back to WNY to visit Carol and Mike at their lake house.

This time they flew down to Wilmington.

We are thankful after all these years we still are able to do this.

Papa’s World – when friends come together!

This time it was our home for one day and a day on the ICW – and then golfing.

We gathered at our home for an overnight – then on to Magnolia Greens to the McBrides for three nights.

Last two years we made the trip to WNY to stay with our friends back home.

We golfed on Friday – then picked up our WNY friends at the airport. Golfing is always a competition –

ladies vs. men!

And it is always too close to call after 18 holes!

The airport run was made and we moved to the McBrides just outside Leland, N.C.

We rehashed old times – had a few drinks – listened

to music and the next morning drove back to OIB to show our friends from WNY our home.

Later – we all went to OIB Fish Company to depart on an afternoon pontoon boat ride.

Papa shedding his shorts for swimming trunks – a good thing because of all the boat traffic – we hit waves that washed up and over us – getting wet was part of the fun and cool off!

Papa and Sherry – Jim and I traded off on steering the boat.

We were out there for four hours – going North to Holden Beach and then back South to Sunset Beach before returning to OIB!

Nature’s resources on the ICW – are awesome!

PAPA’S WORLD – when friends come together – boating the ICW!

Eating dinner after our four-hour boat ride on the ICW at OIB Fish Company – OIB

The four couples have been friends going on 35 years and some over 40 years.

We try to get together at least once or twice a year –

made more difficult because some still live in WNY and another couple in Va. Beach.

While Sherry and myself live 32 miles from the McBrides now.

We all rented a pontoon boat for four hours to cruise up and down the ICW from OIB – to Holden Beach and back to Sunset Beach – where we saw a lone Dolphin for over 15 minutes diving for food in 8 feet of water.

It was really busy being labor day weekend – countless boats going both ways and creating waves!

We all stay in touch – a group of friends from back in the days living in WNY and WPA!

All of us lived near each other or just across the Pa. line.

Slowly we all moved South – to now the N.C. region – Wilmington to OIB

with one couple in Va. Beach and the other couple still in WNY.

We golf together whenever we can – playing scramble guys vs gals – and one other couple – still lives back in WNY – sometimes they also make it down – this time they did not but they were here last year.

Mike and Carol still live back in WNY – own and operate a large painting business with crews traveling out to the midwest and everywhere in between – painting pipelines etc.

They have a lake house that we go up and stay with them.

Papa’s World – Not goodbye – but until you return again – FAMILY!

Our family from WPA came to visit – driving some 16 hours – a very long trip!

First time for my two sons and their families to make the trip South.

Troy the eldest – Papa and Shawn the youngest.

We tried to work as much into the seven days as we could –

sometimes letting them go off on their own as we had other commitments

but we did sunrises and sunsets all together – beach time and places to eat out together.

Visiting the area and nature walks along with mini golf!

Our time together was priceless and I encouraged them to fly next time to be able to spend

more time on vacation and less time driving!

When we moved south to NVA in 1999 – they stayed in WPA for their families and jobs.

Relaxing on the mainland side of Sunset Beach in the park.

Our garage became a favorite place to meet and talk during rain and hot sunshine while at the house.

Shawn runs his own Energy Auditing business contracting with major energy companies for the states of Pa. and firms from NYS. Troy works for and runs the insulation side of the business for Shawn and government and state programs for the elderly.

In the morning they left to drive back to WPA – not saying goodbye but until we meet again.

We went all the way to the third floor of Inlet View to eat and see the waterfront!

It was Sherry and my first time being on the top floor and we said when we go back we will go up there!

We were told this is where all the locals come when they come here and also on the side is another deck they hang out on.

This is the view from that side deck – no one bothers them up there!

We had such a fun week with family and told them to FLY back and we would pick them up!

Papa’s World – our dream golfing – this time Oak Island with friends.

Buck – Cindy Sherry – our first time golfing on the island.

We had seen this course when we vacationed here about ten years ago –

and we both said “SOMEDAY”!

Well – that day came and we met our friends Buck and Cindy there –

however – we could look out to the ocean and see a storm – thunder and lightning and

we had some sprinkles!

So we decided to go into the bar & grill – have a drink and wait it out!

Which after some 35 minutes – it looked like it had passed and we began.

I had already hit from the tees father back – and this is number one – this course I like because it is open!

My phone takes a picture and if you hold your finger on it – it actually goes through the swing – I wish you could hear the sound on this tee off by Sherry – SMACK – she connected straight down the fairway.

This one is also her second shot off the fairway – “SEE THE SOUND” as I have been told!

It was a good day golfing – the rain did come back on the last two holes but was just a sprinkle –

It was a good first time golfing here and we both want to go back.

We choose to move to Ocean Isle Beach after living for nine months in North Myrtle Beach –

sixteen miles away.

We are about eight miles to the S.C. – N.C border.

We have access to two beaches within six miles and a half dozen others within thirty minutes!

WE ARE NOW LIVING “BEACH LIFE:!

Strolling the beach or just sitting on the pier at either beach is a dream come true.

We worked a combined 79 1/2 years between us at the same corporation.

We are retired but still have had an internet business for sixteen years –

allowing us to live the life we dreamed about.

We both wanted warm weather as it does not bother us.

We both love the water and the ability to explore and have options each day.

LIVING LIFE TO THE PLUS as we call it.

We decided after dinner to drive over the causeway to Sunset Beach –

park and then I had a beer and Sherry had unsweet ice tea –

paid our dollars and walked out onto the pier!

Soon a “V” formation of Pelicans flew overhead – and then another and another!

The waves coming in and the sound they carry!

The calm of the evening – be patient – love – smile – be kind – make a better world.

A quiet evening on the pier – people fishing – people strolling and taking pictures –

surf – sand, and water –

a time to reflect on one’s self!

We decided to have a drink here and they could also shop!

Our family from NWPA came to visit for a week – an almost 15-hour drive!

We walked around and showed them the marina and stopped –

then we decided to have a drink – and LULU’S is a favorite spot for us to relax and people watch.

A mixture of drinks I just had my usual draft!

The first time they have been in the south for a visit.

I told them next time they need to fly

not drive 15 hours!

I actually graduated with her aunt back in 1967!

She has a keen eye capturing the sights, while they were here for a week.

I told them both – next time on a long weekend – fly down and we would pick them up – instead of driving fifteen plus hours!

I think she really liked it down here and was excited to see and do different things.

We went to Boardwalk on the beach before they went to a buffet for seafood!

Just walking around and going into stores so they could experience this part of Myrtle Beach.

Papa’s World – Sunset at SUNSET BEACH Pier with family – from NWPA!

Looking NE on Sunset Beach – the reflection from the setting sun in the West.

Our family from NWPA drove 14 1/2 hours to be with us for one week – and the first night –

we took them to Sunset Beach to the pier – to experience the famous Sunset Beach – sunset!

The air was warm as was the water at 80 degrees.

Many people come here to fish until midnight when the pier closes.

Family is very important to us – and while they live far away – they remain in our hearts.

Papa’s World – bringing color to the back yard with Crepe Myrtles and Oleander bushes.

I wanted color back here – the builder planted white Crepe Myrtles out front – these are WATERMELLON!

We also replaced all the Pine Straw and moved it to the tree line where we had three Oleanders put in!

They are young plants and hoping they will take hold – watering them everyday – but next year they should bloom

a bright RED againest the back drop of the protected tree line.

The second Crepe Myrtle – all trees in the yard now have stone and brick or edging depending where they are. The ones next to the house are mulched in black and serve as a contrast to the light gray siding.

A quiet neighborhood – but already a man rang the doorbell trying to sell home securtiy!

We are slowly putting in flowers that will come back year to year – hoping to make this area wild but colorful!

This will be a on going work in progress – adding a little bit here and there!

Papa – Troy – Andrea – Sherry – Autumn – Shawn – Trisha took pictures – after we came home from playing mini-golf.

Our families drove some 14 1/2 hours from NWPA to spend a week with us.

We did a lot of exploring – nature walks – resort areas – beach time- sunrise and sunsets.

This day was a nature walk in Cherry Grove before we set out to play mini golf at

“THE BLACK PEARL”!

Our family from back home in NWPA drove almost fifteen hours to stay with us for a week!

Andrea – Troy – Papa – Shawn – Trisha and Autumn

We decided other than beach time we would take them exploring nature – and the best way for that for us was Vareen Gardens – just across the border in S.C.

You walk the boardwalk across the marsh and come to this area on the ICW – where you can gather shells – make a wish – sign them and hang them from a tree or bush.

There was what is called a KING TIDE and water came up the steps!

We explored the coast – ICW views and the trail then continues across the marsh and into the woods.

Shawn is a ranked pool player in both Canada and the USA – here taking a selfie!

Troy can build a house from the ground up!

In Cherry Grove – North Myrtle Beach is a nature walk over the marsh and onto an island.

My two sons – Troy and Shawn – we had a high tide and rain and part of the paths were ankle-deep in water.

But we managed to make it all the way around except for Sherry – Andrea and Trisha who decided to turn around and go back the way we came.

It was just past here when my oldest son Troy spotted a snake that I did not see!

We moved South to the border of N.C. and S.C. where the temperature is more to my liking!

This morning – Sherry and I took my oldest son Troy and his partner Andrea to the East end

of OIB, by the break wall called the GROIN!

The GROIN was installed last winter to stop the beach erosion.

900 feet long straight out and into the ocean.

Made up of huge granite boulders weighing tons

and lifted by a big crane from beds of huge dump trucks and put in place to form a break wall to stop erosion.

Beyond this rock wall is a lagoon that at low tide turns into a huge tidal pool – only one to two feet deep!
