Papa’s World – In with the new – outside with the old!

Good day everyone – welcome to Papa’s World – no politics – only fun – family – friends and good thoughts!

“I ordered a new rug for the lanai,” said my wife!

You see – we just had it inclosed as you can see in my previous blogs.

And – true to our concept of BEACH THEME – she nailed it!

It is so bright and fun to be in and sit looking out at the green yard and palm tree and treeline!
Looking at the lawn – solo fire pit and the new palm tree – one of two and the protected forest behind us.

So now with the new rug, we decided to move the waterproof mat outside on the open patio!

For the time being, it will be out here – and will be centered – our thoughts are to buy some used wicker chairs – paint them a bright color and make a little sitting area along with the two high seats for the solo stove and have room for guests to visit!
View from the fire solo stove back to the lanai and rocks instead of mulch.

We are slowly getting it all in place – landscaping and such.

We are holding off on painting inside until after the one-year warranty.

Now we are experimenting with flowers and how they react to the warm summer weather.

The lawn is looking really good as I have fertilized it myself.

When we sold the last home – we sold all my outdoor lawn devices –

keeping a few to trim trees and bushes.

Shovel to dig with and a couple rakes.

Lawnmowing we have hired done every 14 or 15 days.

Papa’s World – Tiki Bar – Jinks Creek – Sunset!

Papa’s World – no politics – just smiles – families – friends – life to the plus.

We drive past Jinks Creek every time we cross the causeway and go to the beach –

Ocean Isle Beach that is.

Back in October a couple of my buddies were here and we golfed –

after, we came to the Tiki Bar on the top floor for dinner and drinks.

What a sight it was with the sunset – looking out over the water and marsh.

I had tried to get Sherry – my wife to stop in many times –

but she thought always it was too expensive.

Finally, she agreed – and after some beach time, we stopped just to have drinks.

She was impressed at what she experienced!

The beginning of the sunset.

The clouds parted
And then the magic of sunset on the top deck of the Tiki Bar at JINKS CREEK!
She was glad we had come – we split an appetizer and had a drink .

With Cindy and Sherry – always a laugh.

They have been friends for going on 38 years or more –

one drives the cart – the other hangs on! LOL

They talk and talk and talk and then they laugh and laugh and laugh some more.

We – Buck and I – play them in golf and they give strokes!

They are tough to beat.

We have traveled the world together on adventure-filled vacations.
Fun times with great friends.

Talk of retirement for Cindy – golf – scrambles – laughter and shots – pars are shots! LOL

Papa’s World – After dinner – once again on the beach – SUNSET that is!

Nature paints the skies at sunset.

We were excited when we moved near the border of S.C. and N.C. – a ten-minute drive to the beach.

A lot of nights we just look at each other after cleaning up the kitchen and “LET’S GO”!

Ocean Isle Beach is a ten-minute drive over the causeway and to the sand.

However – we really like to drive the extra five minutes and go to Sunset Beach!

Here we drive to the far west end and park and walk the long boardwalk over the dunes.

The view up the beach east to the pier.

Even at this time, the beach is busy with people – swimming – walking, or catching late rays from the sun.

The beach here is flatter than OIB and we like that!

This evening the wind was coming off the ocean causing the waves to be higher.
All in all – a great evening to just relax by the sea!

Papa’s Word – when your kids finally buy the boat after sixteen years – BOAT – BOAT – we are coming home!

They have lived in a lake community for sixteen years and recently one of the boat slips

became available and their name came up to have it!

For years and years, they have wanted to have a boat but would have to tow it

down to the marina to launch.

Mike and the new boat.

So – they decided to go ahead and buy this boat and surprise the kids!

DREAMS do come true – keeping the FAITH! Debby!

Papa’s World – SUNRISE at Cameron Woods Community, Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Good day everyone – my go-to when I arise and head for the front porch!

We live in a little community along the mainland of Ocean Isle Beach in N.C.

If you could walk to the beach straight East – it is two miles!

But since you can’t – driving is four miles and then over the causeway to OIB.

The causeway over the ICW to OIB.

But with my coffee pouring, I step out the back door and view the sky to the South East.

View to the S.E.

And then I turn slightly to the left toward the East – and this view I have almost every day!

The sun starting to rise in the East from our driveway!

It is so quiet and you hear the multitude of birds every morning calling and chirping.

It is this scene of my WHY for a front porch and a place to sit and sip my morning brew.

In PAPA’S WORLD – my perfect view!

Papa’s World – Creamsickle sky and flower beds!

GOOD DAY HERE AT PAPA’S WORLD!

I love sunrises and sunsets – a good way to start and end your day!

Sunset at Cameron Woods Community, Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

The sky slowly turned into a creamsicle color as the sunset!

A view West of the sky over the front lawn stone beds with flower pots!

We have finished all the landscaping and are presently putting in flowers leaving open spaces.

All our trees are edged with stones around them.

At night – they are all lit up with solar lights.

Papa’s World – My grandma – tea – crackers and “COFFEE SOUP”!

My grandma and grandpa

Good day everyone – do you have secret memories of your grandma?

Her name was Nora and by the time I came along – she was a widow –

Grandpa David Aiken was a big man – I am told 6′ 3″ and a farmer through and through.

That is where I get my middle name and grandma was living with us at the time I was born.

She is what I remember the most from my early childhood and she was a dedicated, TEA DRINKER!

My grandma and my mother taught me this.

But she had “SECRET TREATS” for me – depression-era treats!

The first was a bowl of broken up saltine crackers –

and straight from the farm MILK,

sprinkle on a little sugar
and you had “CRACKERS AND MILK”!

I thought that was the best thing!

Grandma and my mother were the reason I was raised Catholic.

The second “LITTLE SECRET” was what she called “COFFEE SOUP”!

Now keep in mind – these were family meals during the Great Depression

when she raised ELEVEN kids on the farm.

She would take a think slice of homemade white bread – warm!

Put it on a plate and poured black coffee over it

add a little farm milk and some sugar and a side of thick bacon or ham!

Today – every time I have my morning coffee I think back to those times of growing up and I see in my mind the picture and the smells of COFFEE SOUP! One of my favorite “SECRET MEMORIES”!

I have not ever had either one of these since childhood again.

But the memory remains with me to this day – it was a “SPECIAL TREAT”

from my grandma “NORA” a kind and gentle lady – who for the first four years of my life raised me.

Papa’s World – BEACH tome and FAMILY time with the LITTLE ONES!

Sherry Bode Cassidy and Taylor – gathering shells on the East end of Ocean Isle Beach

When the project of saving the beach from erosion on OIB on the East end came to a close –

not only was there a new 900-foot wide new beach –

but it was full of dredged up seashells and of course, the little ones went searching!

Good day everyone from Cameron Woods Community – Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

These three – esp Bode and Cassidy – you have to have something planned out to do every day!

Taylor Bode Cassidy and their MORMOR Sherry

MORMOR is Swede for MOTHERSMOTHER!

All three just love her – Cassidy calls her every week or texts her often.

This is Sherry and her influence on them
While Bode played with his cousins – we walked the beach and stopped in here for refreshments.

PAPA’S WORLD – on the BEACH with the LITTLE ONES!
Good Evening from Cameron Woods Community – Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Papa’s World – living our dream – beach and family and friends.

WELCOME TO PAPA’S WORLD

We moved farther south – all the way to the border of N.C and S.C.

We wanted it to be warm in the winter – four seasons without snow and ice.

We wanted to be close enough to the beach that we could drive and spend hours there or walk.

A place family and friends would visit – one floor – but enough room to have people stay.

We found our place in the sun in CAMERON WOODS COMMUNITY

It is a quiet place – room to walk –

friendly neighbors – we all are new here.

And we found our beaches – two of them – Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach

Our life has changed – we did like where we were – but times change – getting older

has a way of making those changes.

And now our families are starting to visit.

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Great Smokey Mountains – health – team – bonding – Generations of Nutrition.

Sixteen gathered at a cabin located between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg –

They drove hours to get there – all up and down the East Coast.

You see – my wife Sherry is a Certified Health Coach –

and also a rep for The Juice Plus Company and has been for the last sixteen years.

My health is the reason I am here today and she has played a major role in that.

Every six months – a conference is held – one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast.

The title is JUICE PLUS + LIVE!

Living life to the PLUS – one day at a time.

What started as a part-time hobby – became a retirement fun job.

In those sixteen years – we have traveled the country – met so many fine people

who all have one major thing in common –

HEALTH and NUTRITION and in our case FAMILY GENERATIONS!

Thus the TEAM GENERATIONS was born – led by a mother and daughter –

Today it has grown and grown and the leaders now gather –

Gathering for JUICE PLUS + LIVE

For the last two years – the Pandemic has kept the gathering in one place down to a minimum

But in October – it will be back in full swing in Atlanta!

Eight thousand people, normally, we shall see, the Pandemic has kept them apart.

HEALTH and NUTRITION – SALAD IN A JAR!

This time – arrive on Thursday – leave on Sunday – fun – learning – games – all part of bonding.

Linda and Sherry – a little break time.

In October I’ll once again be going – driving Sherry and seeing old friends once again.

Education – seeing new sights and making new friends.

Papa’s World – Walking the beach with MORMOR!

Hand in hands – walking with MORMOR – Taylor, and Cassidy.

As soon as we said we are going to take a walk – They both jumped up and off we went!

They love their MORMOR – Swede for MOTHERSMOTHER!

Sitting on a deck with MORMOR – sipping their SHIRLEY TEMPLES!

They are really close to her – Cassidy always calling – texting – face time or zoom calls – every week.

Taylor joining in “HI MORMOR”!

“MORMOR – guess what”?

“MORMOR – I got a new book”!

“MORMOR – only 10 days until we see you”!

And so it goes week to week – MORMOR and the TWINS!

PAPA’S WORLD – walking with MORMOR

Papa’s World – CASSIDY – spitfire – always in motion – athletic – but oh so caring!

In this case – she is the big brother.

She and her brother argue – fight – yell at one another – cry – but beware – she protects him

like a little mother would – she takes his hand in the surf – she is beside him always in the waves.

She is CASSIDY – SHE is the big protective sister who looks out for him –

and she also is the one who constantly texts or zooms or facetime her Grandmother(MORMOR)

Cassidy – athletic – caring – always making fantastic art – loves her MORMOR!

She and Bode should have been the twins – so alike – sound the same – always movin –

two peas in a pod – in fact, if I am not in the room and they talk –

I have a hard time telling the difference between who is who!

Together – brother and big sister – heading for the waves.

The two of them are inseparable on the beach and in the water.

When one comes out – the other follows.

If one is in the tidal pool – the other is right there.

She takes his hand when they wade out – they jump the waves together – they are as one.

This is CASSIDY – PAPA’S WORLD – livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa’s World – Stuffed animals – granddaughter – life’s magical memories.

A child’s imagination – Priceless.

She is kind – quiet – studious – and constantly reading Harry Potter novels.

She loves horses and is becoming an accomplished equestrian at age of eleven.

She is tall and I think will surpass her grandma who is almost 5’10”.

When walking she grabs your hand or when standing next to you – lays her head on your arm.

She is TAYLOR!

She is the one her mother depends upon.

But – she has another side to her – a side that makes me smile.

She quietly – by herself – has an array of little stuffed animals she takes with her everywhere.

She treats them as her little family.

She has names for each and every one of them.

She smiles – she laughs – she is funny.

She is bright – reading at a Junior level.

She knows about brackish water – why there are tides –

She can explain climate change – she is beyond her years!

But she has that little secretive side to her –

The side that when she is not in the room – you see what she has done!

Left to ever watch over the bed – the little stuffed animals.

This is our Taylor Bear as Mommie calls her.

The quiet one – the reader and studier.

The one who grabs your hand to walk or lays her head on your shoulder.

THIS IS TAYLOR – one of our twin granddaughters.

Papa’s World – The Path of life – John Muir.

On one of our trips across the World – we ventured to California.

Sherry and Papa

We found some very large Redwoods in a place called MUIR’S FOREST!

It was very foggy that day and we had no idea what we would see for it was a drive through hills

a road that went up and down and around – steep sides to fall thousands of feet.

And then we came to a parking lot that seemed out in the middle of nowhere.

Our paved road was no longer – it was sand and dirt.

And it proved to be after the fog lifted – near the Ocean.

Houses were there but first, we had to walk that dirt path through the woods.

Magnificant woods they were – Ancient trees hundreds of feet tall and big enough around

you could lock arms with a dozen people and not have enough to encircle the base.

WE WERE IN MUIR’S REDWOOD FOREST!

We were off the paved highway and onto the dirt path – sometimes to see the beauty

you have to get your feet dirty and experience the wonder of nature.

WISE WORDS FROM A WISE MAN.

Papa’s World – Family Krohn on the beach!

Taylor Marcus Tammy Papa

Our family came to spend their spring break with us before Easter.

Cassidy and Bode – the one boy on the left.

We spent a lot of time between beaches – and it was a warm week for water and sand.

Shelling – walking – boogie boards – blowing sand – no rain – warm sun and family time.

Taylor – she is growing up so fast – she will be the tall one in the family.

Taylor excels in horseback riding and grooming – riding lessons once a week.

She is very tall for her age and will be taller than her MORMOR Sherry –

who is almost 5’10”.

Ella has already matched Sherry and Sarah will soon.

Bode and Cassidy are on their Boogie boards.

These two are so much alike that they should have been the twins.

Bode will end up also being very tall.

Cassidy is of normal height for her age and is a beauty.

Her warmth and caring – her love of her MORMOR whom she calls all the time.

Her use of YOUTUBE for art projects and drawings.

She is playing soccer as is Bode.
She is quick – fast and agile.

We are now neighbors and more important – FRIENDS!

They also lived back in NYS and know many of the places we know!

They purchased a boat a few months ago – mainly for fishing The ICW!
Sherry and Diane as we slowly go from Bricklanding boat ramp all the way to the Little River!
Causeway over to Sunset Beach.

They had invited us to go boating on their second trip out after they had tried it out on their first outing.

We had traveled the length of Ocean Isle Beach – Sunset Beach – Bird Island and finally onto the Little River!

It was a warm day off the water but the wind on THE ICW made it a bit chilly

and long sleeves were welcomed!

We got to LITTLE RIVER just as the CASINO BOAT was returning to the port.
It is really a very large boat that goes out to the ocean where they can legally gamble!
We had no idea we would see this and it was a neat adventure!

We spent almost four hours traveling down to Little River – just cruising slowly and returning!

BOATING THE ICW WITH DIANE AND STEVE: PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Our new enclosure for the Lanai – is finished after almost nine months of waiting!

The company that we purchased the enclosure from.

In early August of last year, we signed the contract for the materials – it had to be manufactured –

and because of the Pandemic – everything was delayed!

The previous screened in Lanai was taken out and the process began to enclose it once again.
Materials needed to start and a worker measuring and making cuts!
Putting up the heavy gauged framework.
Beginning to take shape.
Installation of the new heavy lock and key door!
Setting in the pre-fab screens and windows.

They worked steadily – efficiently and seemed in no time they were almost done.

Everything was made to order and just what we wanted.

All windows and doors are in -screwing in additional screws to tighten them in.
The windows and walls and the door are complete.

All that was left was for them to caulk everything inside and outside –

Which when done made it look all sealed and neat and clean lines.

A view of the enclosed Lanai with the windows pulled all the way down.

The windows slide all the way down or all the way up – or we can take them out.

The door is thick and locks – the windows go all the way up or down!
No more rain and everything getting wet – and NO MORE YELLOW POLLEN!

We waited a long time to do this and finally, it is done.

It will be dry and warm – in the winter we have a small heater if we are sitting out here.

A very wise investment and it looks really great!

Thanks for reading Papa’s World – MY SITE: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – we signed the contract in early August – 8 1/2 months later – out with old – in with the new!

We moved all the furniture out of the screened-in Lanai – and I washed it all down!

Our lanai was great – but did not keep out the rain or the yellow pollen!

So – we inclosed it with screens and windows – so that it became a four-season room for us!

The only thing was because of Covid – it would take 30 to 40 weeks to have it all here in materials.

We decided to go this route as it is 60 % cheaper and just as effective as we wanted.

We got the call – the materials were in – they would start the next day!

It took them all of 20 minutes to dismantle the old lanai!
They were fast and efficient.
Completely ripped out and ready to install the enclosed lanai!

Thanks for reading – PAPA’S WORLD livinglifedoingitmyuway.blog

My next blog will be the finished enclosed lanai!

Papa’s World – we try to walk three miles every day – here we are walking Cameron Woods.

Here is our home as we head West and then North.
Sherry walking East and at the truck is where Diane lives.
After Diane joins us – we turn North and walk up the street.

The community center – pickleball courts and pool will be on our left at the top of the hill and our mailboxes will be on the right-hand side in a small cul-de-sac.

The unfinished Community Center building – slowly progressing – almost a year behind schedule!
What it is supposed to look like!

Inspections – material shortages – labor – One developer sold to another – numerous delays!

But when completed we can walk easily to it and it will be so nice –

the inside has been drywalled and painted in 80 % of the building –

the area to the right in the pictures has yet to be drywalled.

I have no idea why it was not done all the way through – but the drywall is sitting in there.

Inside are bathrooms – kitchen, meeting room, fireplace, workout area, lounging area, etc.

Behind us is the main road going north to the main gate.
Before the main gate in the upper right – we head to Waterway Woods – a cul-de-sac.
Here we will walk again West around a loop of this cul-de-sac.

The main entrance – gated – is to the right.

Walking a cul-de-sac – one of many that have no houses on them.
Now we have walked Waterway Woods cul-de-sac and are heading back toward the community center.
On the Waterway Cul-de-sac.

Once back on Waterway road – it is straight back to the house –

or you can choose to do five other cul-de-sacs – some with houses most are vacant.

Or walk the road to the pond – to the end of the cul-de-sac or go to the new construction area and walk.

If you choose to walk everything in Cameron Woods plus the garden homes –

it would be close to seven or eight miles!

Paul – Jim and I all played softball together in the mid-’70s.

Conversing in the parking lot – Paul and Buck – Cindy and Janet and Sherry.

Paul and Janet have known Cindy and Buck McBride for years and years – we all are old friends.

Trying to get a group picture while looking directly into the sun was not working out!

After dinner – we found a place to take a group photo –

but the bright sun was brutal!

Finally – a very nice lady who was standing on the top deck –

said she would come down and take the picture.

She walked all the way down from the third floor – bless her!

We have a core group of friends that go back to the late ’70s –

We try to get together over the years – now we live only 35 minutes from Buck and Cindy

and we try to play golf once a week with them.

Jim and Dottie are in Va. Beach and Paul and Janet are still in Eldred

but now are retired and RV in Florida.

They were kind to find a place nearby and camp for two nights

allowing us all to get together – we miss you, Jim, and Dottie!

Papa’s World – saying not goodbye – but until we meet again!

It is always sad when the family leaves!

This time it is Debby and Ella – the spring break is almost over –

and Debby has to drop her off on her way home at Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.

But we had a fantastic six whole days with them!

At the beginning of the day they had to leave.

The weather was cool here the entire time as it was all up and down the East coast.

And the day they left it got almost to 80 degrees!

But – we had days and days of walking the beaches and Ella even went in one day!

Debby Ella Sherry – discussing the trip back to college and the future trip back in June.
All packed up and ready to load the car!

Tears of joy in that we were able to spend the time together –

the laughs and new places to explore.

Not saying goodbye – but until we meet again.

Next time their whole family will be here – and it will be warmer.

to view its renowned sunset.

Here Ella, Sherry, and Debby stand gazing across the marsh to the West.

It seems everyone heads to this location –

But – it was worth the walk back in time to capture the mother and daughter doing a selfie!

Papa’s World – exploring the East end of Sunset Beach!

Sunset beach on the East end opens up to a wide expanse of beach before the channel that separates this beach from Ocean Isle Beach.

It is very wide here and at low tide – you feel you almost could walk across the cove to the other island.

There were only us and a few other people out there this day.

Here are Debby – Sherry, and Ella – a few others were walking – but the gusts of wind made it cold.

Our granddaughter Ella – loves her beach time.

The tidal pools were warm – the air cold and the wind gusting – but the sun was warm – which made it bearable to spend an hour or so exploring this part of the beach.

If ever on Sunset Beach – go to the East end and explore – this must be what it was like hundreds of years ago!

Wide-open and almost deserted beach – tide going out and exposing even more beach.

Debby Ella Sherry

We drove down to Myrtle Beach to Broadway on the beach – taking Ella and Debby.

Ella was on Spring break from college and her mother drove her down to see us.

While not busy as summer – it was getting there!

Sometimes – just to walk and do a day trip – we drive some forty minutes down here

and use this as our three-mile walk!

In winter – it is like a ghost town!

We had a late lunch – dinner while here before leaving and driving over to Carolina Opry

To see “Time Warp” a musical revue of classic songs from the 60-70 and ’80s!

We are hoping in June this entire family will come for a week!

Not knowing what to expect – they both loved the music and performers.

We had very good seats and the acts were also good.

I smile when I look at them – and to me, that is all that counts!

But we have so much more back there.

PAPA granddaughter ELLA SHERRY

We have SUNSETS that are to die for!

Reflection of SUNSETS in the trees to the EAST!

Soon we will add two more Palm trees back here!

ELLA and daughter DEBBY

All the family tends to end up on the back patio and lanai – with seating and a SOLO STOVE firepit.

Our SOLO STOVE firepit on the back patio.

We look for dead wood and pine combs to burn along with purchasing wood from the stores.

Once the fire gets going it is almost smokeless!

DEBBY and ELLA – hoping in June the whole family can visit!

We choose this lot because of the woods and how it would be situated for SUNRISES and SUNSETS!

It does not disappoint!

SUNSETS and SOLO STOVES in the BACKYARD!

Papa’s World – North Myrtle Beach Saint Patrick’s day parade and festival.

The parade had been canceled due to weather – rain and strong winds.

Our granddaughter was leaving that afternoon to go back to the Unversity of Lynchburg, Va.

So we made an early trip to NMB with her to take in the parade and see some vendors.

Maddy with some of the spoils thrown from the participants from the parade.

Everyone was throwing candy – shirts – hats – beads!

Sherry coming back from a golf cart dispencing Margaritas!

It was a fun time – and lasted over an hour!

A Statue of Liberty and a hat were given away!

SAINT PATRICKS DAY PARADE – NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Saint Patrick days parade – NMB!

Maddy wanted to walk the beach and see the ocean one last time before she went back to college.

The parade had been canceled the previous week because of the strong wind and rain.

So – this time our granddaughter Maddy was here but she had to leave in the afternoon –

So we drove to North Myrtle Beach so she could enjoy a few hours of just plain fun –

and take her last walk and see the ocean before she left.

Here Shery and Maddy walk out to the ocean at the main street entrance to NMB.

Walking the main street in North Myrtle Beach before the parade.

Hundreds of vendors were set up – food – drink – items for sale.

We were there early – around 8:30 am.

Coffee for our early morning walks around town viewing the vendors before the thousands of people show up.

Sherry and Maddy sitting on a towel on the curb of Ocean Blvd.

We did not carry chairs – and we had front row seats sitting on a towel on the curb.

The parade lasted one hour – and was quite colorful in green and white and orange!

Papa and Maddy – time for some green beer!

It was a great four-plus hour spending time with our granddaughter before driving back to the house.

Sad to pack her up to leave in the early afternoon – but we had her entire spring break with us.

Papa’s World – Lunch at INLET VIEW!

Along the water sets a bar & grill – INLET VIEW!

We took Maddy – our granddaughter out for a late lunch – early dinner – all the while watching the boats!

This is one of our favorite places to take visitors!

Inlet View is a three-story bar and grill which in summer has live music.

This sits on the backside of Eastern Ocean Isle Beach – and to the left is Holen Beach.

One of the gems we have found exploring the N.C. coastline.

Since Maddy has turned twenty-one last year – she now can order a drink with us.

Drinks with that southern comfort food – HUSH PUPPIES!

Everyone seems to serve these like in the North – you get rolls!

INLET VIEW – just near Bricklanding – Shallotte – I highly recommend you try it out!

SHERRY & MADDY – GRANDMA & GRANDDAUGHTER

Papa’s World – The Pond -The Gator and The Solo Stove.

When Maddy arrived – the next day we took her on one of our walks.

Diane – our neighbor went with us and it had just rained.

Sherry Maddy Betsy and Diane

We walked our three-plus miles – showing where she could run her four miles

that she runs to keep in shape for soccer.

It was a beautiful day – after the downpour and the sun came out.

Maddy was anxious to see the gator in the pond!

We had told her we had a couple gators in our pond –

although we have only ever seen one at a time.

Here you can see the pond and the gator swimming away!

We were standing along the trail and looking for the gator – after the rain, the water level was up.

The gator usually is in the middle on a raise of land and weeds.

We could not see it and all of a sudden in a very quiet voice –

MADDY says “It’s right there” pointing down the bank and to the water!

I zoomed in on it – and sure enough – it was laying just below us some 20 feet away.

We had never seen it anyplace other than the middle!

As soon as I took the picture – it flipped over and into the water and started swimming away.

We were all surprised and jumped as it flipped into the water.

Maddy had her first sighting of a gator here in N.C. and a close one at that!

Now we know to look everywhere for Mr. gator!

After our walk was over – we went home and on the back patio, I started a fire in the SOLO STOVE!

Maddy and her family always do campfires.

The Solo Stove on the patio – waiting for Sherry and Maddy to join me.

We have been picking up dead branches and pine combs to burn –

while also buying firewood bundles.

There is also a lot of throw-away construction pieces that we have gathered.

I only burn it on special occasions and this was one.

Papa’s World – Everywhere I look – I see a story!

When I gaze at people – objects – pictures – I see something to write about.

I do not know if this is a common thing with others

but with me – when I write a blog – I have no idea what it will be until I look at a photo.

Then it just pops into my mind and I start.

Little CASSIDY – here perhaps 3 years old – today 11 years old.

She was a little spitfire – always running – but when smaller – if she wanted down –

she would start squirming in your arms and you get the feeling you would drop her.

Today – she is fast – and very talented – she makes things from watching YOUTUBE!

But here I see the kind heart – the one who calls her MORMOR to talk.

The one who knows exactly when you will arrive and when you will leave.

I see stories to be told about her – in my mind –

PAPA and SHERRY

My greatest inspiration to write – was my wife – who encouraged me to write it all down.

So – today – you read what I write –

A journal of our lives – daily – so that those coming in the future know what and who we were.

Papa’s World – Spring break with Maddy!

As the sunset in Sunset Beach – Sherry and Maddy take it all in on a cool evening.

She drove herself five hours from Lynchburg Va. – her University – to spend her break with us!

So we took her to the beach in the early evening after she arrived.

She had a test in the morning of the day she started out – but she and Sherry wanted to see the beach.

It was cool out – a cold front had come in from Florida all the way North to N.E.

And the wind made for a chilly walk in the blowing sand.

Here you can see a deserted beach and how the sand blows across it – stinging your eyes.

Grandma and granddaughter – the same – they love the surf and the sand.

It was worth the time to take her to both beaches – to relax after her five-hour drive –

the crazy world of college and tests – maintaining an almost 4.0!

And grandma had her eldest granddaughter once again in her home!

Papa’s World – Besties over the years.

Cindy and Papa

We became neighbors back in 1988 – but we knew them before that!

Cindy and Buck lived right across the street from us –

They were the first to move South – to the Wilmington – Leland area in N.C.

We would visit on vacations

and that is when we started to think in the future we would move to the area.

Sherry and Cindy

Today we live some 32 miles away from them –

we often get together to golf – see concerts or theaters.

A Sunday watching the bills

Boating or going out to dinner.

We have for years traveled the World together on vacations.

Papa and Dottie

I have known both Jim and Dottie for 40 plus years.

They moved to Va. Beach

and we have celebrated birthdays and good times there with them.

Jimmy and I played softball together in the late ’70s

We are golfing buddies

and Jim – Sherry and I all worked for American Olean Tile – Dal-Tile

and Jim still works for them.

Hoping to retire soon.

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – our memories from back in time!

We were married on June 25th. 1982 – yes – our forty-year anniversary is coming up!

Sherry and me.

We brought together two sets of children – her daughters and my sons.

Those were lean years – working and trying to stay ahead.

But we managed and survived.

In the late ’60s at the American Olean Tile Plant where I started on 6-5-67.

I worked for this company which later through transition became Dal-Tile.

We merged several times with other corporations and when I retired we were Mohawk.

After 47 1/2 years, I retired from a branch in Va.

As also did Sherry as she worked for them for 32 years!

I have no regrets as I worked many jobs in many locations in two states.

And that is where we met – all those years ago.

Sherry

Along the way, we have made many friends – but we have really close friends.

Thanks for reading and in my next blog will be those friends!

Sherry – speaking before a large gathering on Health and Nutrition at the Doubletree in the D.C. area.

For sixteen years she is and has been a Certified Health Coach –

teaching the value of a plant-based diet.

She is an SSC for the Juice Plus Company –

And my inspiration to maintain a healthy living and aging style.

For sixteen years, my go-to for maintaining my health.
Following in the footsteps of their mother – Debby – QMND and Tammy – S.C

It has been a journey – one that is not easy to maintain with all the food that is out there –

but one that has become a way of life for their families –

and the concept of “TEAM GENERATIONS” that now has all the grandkids following.

Along with so many others all over the country and their own families.

TEACHING GOOD HEALTH THROUGH HEALTHY SELECTIONS – and continuing in N.C.

OUR TOWER GARDENS, BACK IN BRAMBLETON, VA.

We continue to grow here in N.C. and our experiment of the twelve-month growing season

has been a success!

THE TOWER GARDEN IS ON OUR BACK PATIO.

We decided to bring one Tower Garden with us and last August started our growing season.

We have continued all through the winter here –

experiencing SNOW – ICE – HIGH WINDS – temps into the TEENS!

It has survived all of that with a cover we brought with us from Va.

It allows the sun in and heats up during the day –

Metallic surface and everything survived regardless of our 1/4 inch ice storm.

I am not sure where we bought this covering but it was worth it as we had salads every night.

PAPA’S WORLD – END OF THE TRAIL POND – CAMERON WOODS!

Papa’s World – Walking the path around the pond – at Cameron Woods – “INTO THE WOODS”!

In my last blog – you could see “WOODIE” sunbathing!

The resident GATOR of our pond although people have seen two of them in there!

In case you missed the last blog – here is WOODIE!

Now – we are walking into the woods full of Carolina Pine trees and Living Oak Trees!

Sherry heading to the bend and up a small grade and then into the pine needle-covered path!

This section is kind of scary even in the daylight!

When you get in there – the path is orange colored from all the pine needles.

Great cover for COPPERHEADS!

Although we have not seen any of the snakes – other people have – but we did see a large black snake!

And it was on the black gravel path just before the bend on the path straight ahead of Sherry.

Sherry enters the path and forest.

She watches the trees and branches while I watch the ground and sides.

I have seen several deer back in here – never any snakes but this area has them!

You can see that you do not want to go off that path – at least we don’t!
It is also much cooler in here and on a hot day a welcomed relief!

This is all protected land and will not be clearcut.

It is quiet in here – just the sounds of the birds!

And quiet also when you walk on a bed of pine needles!

Coming to the end of the path through the woods.

Papa’s World – Steps on the trail around the pond and through the woods – at Cameron Woods!

When we walk – we can go in two directions – this walk is to the East – and the Pond.

E Lindley Lane, S.W.

Here we turn right and walk down the street – there are maybe six houses down here that are still in construction – and all are at the end of this road and then onto the cul-de-sac that winds around to the back of our house through the woods.

But before you get to that other street – the entrance to the trail that walks all the way around the pond – is on the left. Past the only two true story homes in the entire development.

Here you see my wife Sherry starting on the path and the pond is to her right – and in the middle, some 100 feet away is a somewhat raised portion – almost like an old farm road.

This is where WOODIE – THE GATOR – likes to sunbathe!

When the temps rise and the sun comes out – most times you can find WOODIE!

Although I have only ever seen one gator in here – neighbors have seen TWO – both this size!

I would estimate it is 6 plus feet long!

Maybe seven feet!

These neighbors who live on the pond have also seen Otters – lots of Turtles – and have caught a big mouth bass out of here!

The next blog will be “ENTERING THE WOODS” where I am on watch for snakes!

We have seen one rather large Black Snake laying on the path before you go into the woods –

so we just turned around and went back.

Sherry watches the trees and I watch the ground!

Papa’s World – Sunrises and Tower Garden!

With every sunrise since last August – our Tower Garden has been out in the patio just chugging along!

We set it up then and started our seeds from scratch right in the rock wool and placed them in the pods.

And it has been producing PRODUCE ever since regularly!

GOOD MORNING SUNRISE FROM CAMERON WOODS COMMUNITY, OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C.

Now in that timeframe, we have had HEAT – SUNSHINE, STORMS, HIGH WINDS, SNOW, and ICE!

We have covered it up with a metallic mesh to protect it from freezing

and the temps have gotten down into the mid to high teens!

One time overnight we had 1/4 inch of ICE all over everything!

And – it has survived ALL OF THAT!

The Tower Garden on our patio – protected on two sides from wind and in sun 80 % of the daylight.

Our sunny days in the summer can be HOT in the sun.

We ran the timer for the pump – 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during that HOT TIME!

This was an early morning picture – around 8 am.

Fresh lettuce and spinach for all winter for dinner and shakes. ( spinach)

We rotated the plants and replanted them when the need arises.

In the early fall, we had tomatoes and cucumbers, and celery along with herbs and lettuce.

We are going to plant more variety this time – in fact as I write this –

We pulled all the plants out – took the Tower Garden apart – cleaned it up –

replanted those plants we pulled out and started new seeds including cukes-

and tomatoes and some others.

It took all of maybe an hour and a half to do that – cleaning – and putting new water and tonic in.

And that night we cut off some lettuce for dinner!

The Terminal Groin – part of saving the beach erosion.

When completed – this huge granite rock break wall –

will allow the sand that is dredged from the channel

and pumped out and form a new beach to the left of the wall.

The first and second streets are no longer here

have eroded away.

These houses were in danger as high tide brought the ocean right up and underneath them.

The pipelines from the dredging of the channel – blowing water and sand out to form the beach!
The beach is formed behind that granite wall barrier and is pushed around by bulldozers.
The homes – now sitting on the third street – are now oceanfront – and were nearly lost.

You can see the very large sandbags that were placed to try and save the homes.

Water would run right up to them and underneath.

The beach will continue along the shore – and the sand will build up against the wall of granite rocks.

Each rock weighs in tons – three at a time are transported by forty-foot tractor truck and trailers.

GOOD DAY – WELCOME TO PAPA’S WORLD

Living in Ocean Isle Beach – Cameron Woods – 7 miles to the S.C. border –

the weather is what I like – yes – we have had that rare ice and snow –

but then you get days such as this where it is tee shirt – shorts and sandals!

That is when our resident pond Aligator comes out to the sun itself!
We have a walking trail around this pond and sometimes we see it and other times we do not.

We have seen tons of turtles in here – all types of birds hunting for fish and some have seen otters.

I think there are two gators in here and some babies although I have never seen the little ones or two gators at the same time.

And then it is but a short ten-minute drive to the beach – where the sound of the surf and warm sand entice you to bring a chair and just sit in the warm sunshine!

Papa’s World – we decided to celebrate an early Valentine’s day with dinner at Bricklanding, N.C.

Bricklanding golf course – pro shop and restaurant.

We were told that they have specials occasionally on Friday evenings –

but you MUST make reservations.

And it is buffet style for $25.00 and is themed.

This time it was Italian and it lived up to my expectations.

The meal includes deserts – ice tea – coffee.

There is also a bar if you want other drinks!

On the patio looking down the first fairway – with water on the right and down by the green water on the left!

We are going to come back here and golf as it is only fifteen minutes from our home.

I am told three of the holes run along this waterway and then the course crosses the street.

They also said they shut down last year and redid all the greens!

Looking back at the eighteenth fairway and the sunset.

They have two other themed buffet dinners that II know about –

Prime rib is one and Fish is the other.

Sherry standing on the patio deck just before we left.
Hole number eighteen green.
Time to leave drive into the sunset

We will go back again although neither one of us will be able to eat $25.00 worth –

but it was fun sitting there overlooking the course and waterways.

We got to pick and choose on the buffet and salad bar –

the help was very friendly and just getting out and to a scene such as this was worth it!

Papa’s World – Cameron Woods Community – sunsets – turkeys – neighbors – a place we love.

Welcome to CAMERON WOODS – OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. 28469

Sitting off Old Georgetown road – just past the back entrance to Ocean Ridge Plantation –

sits a brand new community – about four years old.

Amongst the tall N.C. pine trees and the live oaks.

It is a gated community – and will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 homes when completed.

The last phase is set to be started with the roads and infrastructure have been completed in half of it.

Sunset in Cameron Woods from our back patio.

Beyond these woods will be the final construction – there are no roads in there yet except one access road – and a very large pond – although all the trees have been cleared.

To the right of this – that section has paved roads and infrastructure!

It is to the far right that the roads are in – and another beautiful sunset!

We are getting to know the neighbors – as they move in.

Our close friends Steve and Diane are actually from back in WNY and know our old stomping

grounds there.

We have abundant wildlife here – turkeys – deer – raccoons – gators – and some say a bobcat.
It is at the end of this street where the final phase of construction is!

If the sky is somewhat clear – and most times it is – we can see the sunset from the end of the driveway

to the back patio each night – and then do stargazing – as the view is clear.

View of the beginning of sunset over our home.

In the mornings from the opposite view here – we see the sunrises!

So we have the perfect sunrise and sunsets each day and night!

SUNSET FROM OUR FRONT EDGE OF THE DRIVEWAY!

PAPA’S WORLD – thanks for reading!

Papa’s World – when they were little Grandkids.

GOOD DAY EVERYONE!

It seems like only yesterday they came and stayed often overnight sleepovers!

Our six grandkids all lived close to us before we moved to OIB, N.C.

They had their own SPOTS that they would claim to spend the night.

Ella had a single bed adjoining our Master Bedroom.

Maddy had her own bedroom – a single bed.

Sarah – Taylor – Cassidy and Bode all had their spots on our master bedroom floor!

I miss those times – foam mattresses – blankets and lots of pillows.

Giggles during the night.

MADDY SARAH CASSIDY TAYLOR ELLA – before Bode

Today Maddy is a junior in college – Sarah a Freshman in H.S. and Ella a Freshman in college.

Taylor and Cassidy are in the 5th. grade – 11 years old!

And now we have Bode – the only boy.

Taylor Bode Cassidy

The sleepovers are gone – vacations are now here – bedrooms are gone – college soccer games are here.

Gone are the skateboard’s outside – bikes – easter egg hunts in the yard –

Today it is looking forward to visits here and visits back at their homes.

Times have changed – new beginnings are now here!

WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE – NOW THEY GO FORTH

Papa’s World – strolling Sunset Beach.

Footprints on Sunset Beach, N.C.

When the sun is out – the wind calm – it is time to stroll the beaches!

Looking for that Vitamin “D”

Steve – Daines husband – was back in Rochester N.Y. tending to frozen water lines in his mother’s house.

Diane and Sherry walk toward the Sunset Beach Pier.

While he was North in below ZERO temps – we were walking the beach – enjoying the warm sun.

In recent weeks – whales have been spotted on both Ocean Isle Beach waters and Sunset Beach waters.
PAPA SHERRY DIANE – sorry Steve – we feel for you!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – My world growing up and living in a little town in Pa. called Eldred!

Northwestern Pa.

In the midst of the Alleghany hills – amongst the green and lush valleys – sits a little community-

Population – around 800 souls – and back then – I knew almost every one of them!

Eldred Pa.

The town sits on the Alleghany river which eventually flowed into Pittsburg – but – it flowed North first!

Yes – it left Pa. and flowed into NYS before flowing once again South through Pa.

It ends up in Pittsburg some three-plus hours away.

We would be considered the snow belt – some 80 miles south of Lake Erie and Buffalo N.Y.

I helped a friend of mine growing up with his paper route – his name was Brent – and we hung out.

He bought a go-cart with his money and he would let me ride on it.

He was two years older than I and eventually married my cousin.

Funny how that worked out – he graduated and I lost track of him.

The town nestled in the hills.

I would ride my bike everywhere – I had to be home each night for dinner and before the street

lights came on. Every night at 10 o’clock sharp – the siren from the firehouse would blow-

You could hear it all over the town – that was “CURFEW” for the streets –

I think no one under 18 could be out and about!

My first friend I can remember is the girl next door – her name was Sharon – and she had a big brother whom everyone called Sonny “KING” – and he dressed in a black leather motorcycle jacket and slicked his hair back like Elvis!

Sharon and I were like brother and sister – we would watch Lassie together – play on the front porch –

sneak a corncob pipe and gather silk from the corn and smoke –

puff it – in the big red barn behind the house.

We would walk to school together – and our route always was behind the main street along the tracks.

Behind the Eldred Garage and then on the tracks themselves.

Just before the creek – Lynches lived and behind their house was a tree –

like a little island raised up on a piece of land.

We would sit there and play our Kazoo’s together –

“THREE BLIND MICE”

That was all I knew how to play! LOL

She moved away and my sister and her husband moved in right next door!

Bill Luce – on the left – my brother-in-law.

Over his shoulder is the greenhouse I grew up in – my bedroom was the two windows on the second floor –

after my older brother Roger left for college.

Every morning I would wake up to the birds singing in the tree outside that window –

the Sunlight would come streaming in –

There was the main street – highway right out front –

and I would sleep and hear the sound of cars – trucks rolling by –

and then – the accidents that happen right there –

crashes would hit the cars parked there.

Some – I sept right through – others – would jolt me right out of bed.

That curb was where my best friend and I were sitting one early morning after midnight –

he was sleeping over and my parents had gone somewhere –

we got into the hootch under the sink.

My sister came out and grilled us –

“ARE YOU GUYS DRUNK”?

No I said and right at that time a car came

and the lights showed right on my friend – and he got sick –

and threw up all over the place!

” HE IS,” I said! LOL,

my sister always laughed at that and would tell the story many times over and over!

My friend and drinking buddy – lower right-hand corner!

We have reconnected about fifteen years ago at a class reunion –

he spent about a week here last October –

and we played golf once again – after some 55 years have gone by since we last played together!

My brother Roger and Sherry – a few years before he passed away – gone but not forgotten.

He was my hero growing up – ten years older than I –

named WHOS WHO in American colleges

OFFICERS TRAINING SCHOOL and a Lt. in the navy.

His bedroom became mine – when he came back I would sleep on the floor.

Papa’s World – Viewing the sunset at SUNSET BEACH – in the windy cold!

SUNSET BEACH, N.C.

Just a little over a month later from our New Years Eve beach gathering and toast to 2021

We once again were back to see the sunset – only it was windy and cold –

far from the 65 degrees of NYE!

The approaching sunset peeking through the trees!
Papa – Diane and Sherry

We first parked and walked to the end of the street – here the last of the end of the houses –

and this then begins Bird Island – marshland protected and wide-open beach.

Our neighbor Diane

The tide was going out!

Here you see the last of the houses on the marsh and bayside – with the tide going out – This is the end of Sunset Beach and the beginning of Bird Island.
Sun setting – time to go to the beach.
This is where we gathered for NYE and drank a toast to 2021!
The pier and people walking the beach.
Sherry – braving the wind chill – it was cold.

As we looked out on the ocean – to think we can do this every night if we want to –

and there still is Ocean Isle Beach – living our dream.

One final look before we returned home – Sunset at SUNSET BEACH, N.C.

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – And it was 10 degrees below freezing -“BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE – NO HEAT”!

Papa watching Saint Bonaventure basketball – the furnace quit!

It happened two days in a row and the temps were in high teens and low twenty’s –

cold for this far south – seven miles to the border of S.C.

The thermostat went blank – the furnace quit –

and we immediately dug out the two electric liquid heaters we kept from back north.

We had decided to not get rid of these when we downsized!
While they are electric – they are safe – the liquid inside ( oil ) heats up and radiates the heat – and are not hot to the touch to burn you.

We had these for heat back north and we are going to use them in the lanai when we enclose it.

That will become a four-season room – 11 x 12.

So -when this happened we plugged them in and they kept a constant 65 degrees temperature in the entire house!

We have had ICE and SNOW in the last two weeks and now it is in the ’60s!

We are still under warranty and we called in – they had someone there within three hours both times.

At first, he could not find anything – and ran diagnostics –

there was a blown fuse on the unit up over the garage –

this is what cut the low voltage current to the thermostat.

Once he replaced that – he tried to get it to burn the fuse out again – nothing!

At that time we had been having lights flicker the past two weeks –

this was because of the ice storm and the little snowstorm.

So we thought that was the problem and he suggested we contact the electric company

and have a surge protector installed.

Then the next day it happened again!

No lights had flickered!

We called it in again and he showed up again within two hours!

The company who services our heating and air.

This time while he was there – he replaced the fuse and it started – then it popped the fuse –

It was the unit outside that when it started -it had a vibration –

so he opened it up and found a wire that moved and rubbed against a spacer –

causing it to short out!

It only happened at certain times and he was there when it happened!

Cold outside!

Everything was replaced – the wire tightened – so it does not vibrate – and we are fine.

ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY!

Papa’s World – Our first SNOW in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. RARE!

SNOW! The week prior – ICE – IT IS FOLLOWING ME!

I seem to be the person if it is going to happen – it will happen to me.

This is very RARE here this close to the ocean so I am told.

And to be fair – within an hour or so – it was gone!

Looking out the lanai at the snow on the ground and swirling in the air.

Now – really – I could care less if I ever see snow again – some people think that is nuts –

but I just do not like the snow-ice and cold – and I lived in WNY & NWPA for 50 years!

So I know all about blizzards – running my van up and down the driveway to pack it down –

Shoveling – chipping ice – burning 21 cords of wood hand carried inside and to the basement for the woodstove – that stove kept us warm through one week without electricity – and power –

that plus the living room fireplace –

going to work at 5am. through unplowed roads and a foot of fresh snow and another foot on the way.

The Tower Garden all covered up and survived all the ice – snow and cold.

I think it is so pretty coming down – covering in white – but that is my extent of liking it.

Back North – we would go cross-country skiing – in the Alleghany National Park on groomed trails.

As a kid, we were always outside sledding – building forts and snowball fights.

My memories are in the past – my present is NO SNOW! LOL
Lonely birdfeeder with no birds in the snow.

As I said – it was over in an hour – sunshine and no snow anywhere – the WHY we moved South.

The Sun is back – the air still cool – the roads dry – NO ICE – NO SNOW!

Papa’s World – Memories from a tight-knit family!

A word of wisdom I follow above – enjoy Papa’s World!

We are and have been a tight-knit family – mother and daughters – admiration – close – loving.

Tammy Sherry Debby

Both daughters follow in their mother’s footsteps in Health and Nutrition –

Tammy has her own consignment business for children in name brands only.

She also runs two internets at home businesses –

Debby is a leader and Certified Health Coach and has her own internet stay-at-home business.

She is a QMND for the Juice Plus Company and a leader in Team Generations.

Sherry and Papa with the kids of Tammy and Debby – our grandkids.

The family concept is born from Sherry and her parents whom she was very close to.

She is much like her dad in his dreams of having his own businesses throughout the years.

She has his smile and tall thin build – she has her mothers youthfulness –

and growing up – they looked like each other when she was young.

Sherry – her mother Barb and her father Bill – her sister Debbie next to me and her uncle Rusty.

The girls were small – Tammy was just five and Debby ten-

second marriage for us both.

Here Tammy second from the left and Debby holding her nephew, Cousins Kristie, and Bethany & Natalia.

Aunt Ceil on the end.

We were married on June 25th. 1982

being engaged for one year.

A family to this day very – very close.

They all are!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – our very first RARE winter ICE STORM – Cameron Woods – OIB – N.C.

One-quarter inch of ICE over everything!

Moving South to the border of N.C. and S.C. – we must have brought winter weather with us!

This is a very rare event in this part of the country and we were here to experience it!

It started raining the day before and by nightfall – the temps had dropped to freezing!

By morning it had gone down to 26 degrees!

that is cold down here!

Everything is covered in a coat of ice.

We knew it was coming and were prepared not to go out on that black ice!

We had flashlights and our generator if needed – but I did not want to go that far!

We were told to be careful with the garage door being ice shut!

DON’T WORRY – BE HAPPY!

We lost the electricity three times for short periods – the news the night before showed the electric

company bringing in some 200 personnel from the midwest to help out – and they were terrific!

Ice everywhere – the trees were coated!

Our Oleander plants – three of them – were bent right over – they survived!

Thank goodness we did not have the wind – no big trees came down or branches.

We dodged a bullet and when the sun came out – the ice melting on the trees

created a drizzle of steady raindrops.

The bushes and mulch are covered in ice.

We have had a cold wave that extends all the way South deep into Florida!

We were worried about our TOWER GARDEN – so I dug out our protective look like metal covering!

We had used this back in NVA but not with ICE!

The back patio – to the right – the covered TOWER GARDEN!

Our experiment to grow twelve months of the year continues!

This protective covering kept the plants – green leafy – safe – the pump kept running on a timer –

and we continue to grow our vegetables even through mid-twenty degrees and ICE!

The covering is perforated – absorbed the sun in the daytime and protects the veggies

during the low temps at night and the freezing rain.
