Papas World – Salvation Army – Link – Food – Give!

In these days – make your path one of giving.

Can you deliver food from your food pantry or church?

It is coming to the weekend –

People are running out of food

The little ones – the children – oft times –

the only food they have come from school provided lunches.

In our area – schools are still providing that lunch during the week.

BUT THE WEEKEND LOOMS!

Sometimes – you just look around and it is alright to sit and reflect

have your coffee – a beer – a drink – zoom with friends

maintain your life as well as you can

when you can not hug a loved one

Sometimes – the MIND needs comfort!

Take those extra clothes to a charity – a place for hope for those in need.

Salvation Army – Goodwill – area drops for the needy.

I do not need to let them collect on the chair in the corner.

Give what you can – and let thanks come that you do not need.

The World needs us now – as good – kind and giving.

We only have one life – live to give – give to live.

Papa’s World – Lake Tahoe adventure continues

Cindy and Sherry

Mt. Rose ski slopes – 8250 feet – a little chilly but refreshing.

Cindy – me – Buck

As our adventure starts – we decided that we would completely

drive the whole way around Lake Tahoe

we ended up driving 180 miles that day !

Mt. Rose – 8250 feet high
Our first sight of Lake Tahoe
Cindy and Sherry
pointing at the lake
although it looks like trees they are holding up !
Lake Tahoe
Clear waters
Swimmers
Swimmers snorkeling

We would pull off road and take pictures – it was so beautiful

The water is so clear you have 100 feet visibility !

However – the average temperature of the water is

42 degrees low and 64 high – too cold for me !

However – we read where it never freezes over

The warm water at the bottom always rises to the top

preventing it freezing !

Cindy and Buck

I hope you enjoyed this part of our adventure –

Oh – just another little tidbit

The average SNOW FALL at the Lake Tahoe area

420 inches !

Way too much for me

and the last of the snow melted in JULY !

Papa’s World – Running for Cancer and Health – Family

Today it was run for cancer ” FAMILY STYLE ” MORMOR – daughter Tammy – son in law Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy and Bode all ran. The adults ran the Five K ( Sherry finished 3rd in her age group 60 to 69 !

MORMOR ( Sherry) finishing – the time is from the start of the front runners – her time was 40:43 !!!! 3.1 miles 3 out of 16 in her age group!

Marcus finished in 30:21 minutes – Tammy 35 minutes ! The three little ones ran a mile – after the 5K was over.

Tammy just before the finish and Cassidy cheering her on.

The mile for the kids – Cassidy finished toward the top after hanging back to be with Bode- Taylor took over and let Cassidy go !

Cassidy racing to the finish – she would of made top three had she not waited to be with Bode !

Taylor staying with Bode who is only four years old – being the big sister leader and protector!

It was truly a family run – running for a neighbor who is a survivor – running for themselves as healthy living – healthy eating and following their MORMOR on living life to the plus – teaching the rules of being health wary and eating properly.

Marcus dashing to the finish line !

All in all – a great morning outing – cold at 57 degrees with lots of gusting wind – around 700 runners – prizes – and the winner is Health – Nutrition and working for a cure for cancer.

Proud PAPA of this family – and also watching my grand daughters play soccer last night – but that is another blog !

#homeagain #JP #HGD #just

Papas World – she was small but she ruled the roost!

They all called her “MARY”

but to me she was “MOM”!

Everyone would drive by that front porch on main street

Roll their window down –

Wave and say “HI MARY”!

Beeping their horns.

I would ask “Who was that”?

“Oh – just someone” she would reply.

They all knew her – and my sisters and brothers friends

Well – after they were gone – they would still stop in.

Same with mine!

She was almost 98 when she passed

But she still was tough as nails!

I loved her – but more than that –

I respected her – calm – cool and collect.

Aunt Mary – Mom – Mary –

all the same to me.

1967 – senior
ME!

It had rained for many days back in the mid ’50’s.

She told me – “Tommy – don’t go near the water”!

You see – before the dike system was upgraded

our little town of Eldred Pa. would almost flood whenever

we had major rain – and this was one of them.

Most times – not major like in ’42.

But one or two feet of water standing on main street!

This time it was different – there was a lot of water –

and off I went – eventually ending up by the main street water

where I was told not to go!

I guess I can say I have always been a little independent

I am careful – I think before I walk – leap or run!

But this day I thought “NO ONE WILL KNOW”!

That is – out of the blue a photo was taken –

By a man who worked for the area newspaper!

Of a young man who had made a raft and was making

his way down main street –

AND THERE I WAS WATCHING HIM!

Yes – that is me – standing in the water on main street flood!

Exactly where I was told not to go!

WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT!

Mary – Mom – Aunt Mary was small –

cool – calm and collect –

She ruled the house – one day she chased me –

all over the back yard –

until I made it to the front porch and crawled under.

As far back as I could go.

She and my sister coaxed me out-

“This is gonna hurt me more than you” she said.

Don’t believe that!

That day it rained and then the next when the morning paper came

and there I was being where I was not suppose to be!

I admitted it and she smiled –

Mary – Mom – Aunt Mary

Cool – calm & collect

“Tommy – this is going to hurt me more than you”

Don’t believe that!

I sure do miss her – Mommy.

Papas World – A World of trying times – keep smiling!

The end before the beginning – a upside – inside out World!

When one little thing goes wrong –

it cascades – only in my case – it was with the KEURIG

And I forgot to put the CUP in! LOL!

Now imagine – if the top disappeared from your life

and the bottom took it’s place!

In my case – exactly what happened!

I was a fast food junkie –

and then thanks to my wife – we changed

for 14 years now – no fast food –

and I take my WHOLE FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

Of Juice plus – ORCHARD – GARDEN – VINEYARD and OMEGAS

made not from fish oil –

but where the fish get the OMEGAS – JP own ALGAE FARMS!

So my World turned upside down and right side up!

Our World which was normal is now abnormal

and we may not live long enough to see it go back

if it ever does!

So – we evolve – we change and we go on.

That has been the Human evolution since human kind began.

Laugh – think and do new things.

Times have changed – say GOOD MORNING –

Drink you coffee or tea or hot chocolate

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I hope I brought to you words to think about

and I hope you come back

Papa’s World – the adventure begins – touring Northern Calif.

We have been planning this trip for months –

Fly into Sacramento California –

meet up with our friends –

and do a ten day tour !

GOOD MORNING

Our day began at 2:15 AM. on Wednesday morning !

We were being picked up at 3:50 am.

and flying out at 6:00 at Dulles airport –

California here we come !

Arriving at 10:45 am. West Coast time – we gathered our luggage

and caught the shuttle to the Budget car rental.

We then had to go to terminal B – we came into terminal A

and pick up our friends Buck and Cindy McBride

from Wilmington NC.

They were outside waiting as we drove up !

Sherry in our brand new
air B&B
View out the back deck
snake haven as far as I am concerned
Cindy and Sherry preparing for morning walk
They got lost !!!!
A look out the back
somewhere up in the back there
they made the wrong turn
and got lost ! LOL

It was a brand new place – three bedrooms – upstairs – two baths

downstairs – one half bath – kitchen – living room and dining room.

Nice and clean and two miles outside of Reno – our first destination.

But before this

We went first to Historical Sacramento –

Buck and Cindy

Lunch at Rio City Cafe –

Sherry had been here twice before –

She has had a conference on health here twice.

Lunch on the water
A little selfie
on the river

Then we explored –

walking all over Historical downtown Sacramento

Vowing – after we spend three days in Reno

to come back here and do a night of it !

Kids in a candy store
I think they were in heaven

Now – myself – I really do not like this type of candy –

CHOCOLATE – give ME CHOCOLATE !!!

At the El Dorado
Reno

And of course the casino’s –

Buck is a big fan of three card poker

Me – not so much – not sure how to place bets.

So – we did three Casino’s and ended up at the El Dorado

where I WON – $10.00 !!!

Playing video slot poker !

The ladies played the penny slots and lost

Buck would rather not talk about it ! LOL

As soon as I won – I QUIT ! LOL

Only in California
do they cut a top off
and use it for a trailer

Stay tuned – part two is next – we explore Lake Tahoe !

Papas World – Can you IMAGINE !

I have never watched those shows with Zombies

The walking dead – but I look outside and everything seems normal.

It is not like the movie The Quiet Place

The birds are chirping – you hear the planes overhead

not like it was at 911 when the skies went silent

Nor is it like when the DC sniper caused you to hide

behind your car door as you pumped gas at 4:30 in the AM.

Papa and Tom
this past Feb. at Disney Springs

While I have never experienced Zombies and Walking dead

I was in NVA during the sniper attacks

and was in the exact middle of the area affected.

Yes – I had to be at work at 5:00 AM.

And when I needed gas – I did exactly as I described.

And when the skies went silent –

that day where I worked in Alexandria Va.

The Springfield area – the plane flew overhead and hit the Pentagon

I did not see it but heard it – and several of my co- workers

were outside in the parking lot loading customers and saw it!

Now – we are in trying times – from something you can not see.

Yet – it is there stalking –

It is scary – because you can not see it –

But has shut the World down.

Wars come and go – snipers are caught – planes fly again.

I would of never imagined this and how there is no place to hide.

IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!

Yet – we live day to day – we find ways to talk – to see one another.

IMAGINE – A World – brought to its knees and we are surviving.

Sort of WAR OF THE WORLDS IN REVERSE!

No haircut for 80 some days

Just the two of us – but that in itself – we are blessed –

a lot of people have no one.

We are getting through this – we are becoming whole once more

The World has changed – normal has become abnormal

Stay safe – stay having faith –

Believe in humanity

Look outside – see the beauty – smell the air and soak in the sunshine

The birds are chirping – it could be a lot worse

There could be Zombies and A Quiet Place!

As a World – we sill have one another.

We are moving on – one day at a time.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

Papas World – now – the helmet hides the hair!

Life is so different now in Sheltering – we still walk –

ride our bikes – deliver groceries

collect food for the food pantry

and now are on a schedule to bring meals

to a vet and his wife who are home bound.

Resting on the trail – I can walk – but biking is a whole new ball game!

You use different muscles –

plus my bike is acting weird

when I am coasting – it constantly is changing gears

so I never know how it will be when I start peddling again!

Plus it does it when I apply the hand brakes!

The whole World has changed – life is not like we lived it!

We must adapt – and we are.

But – we are ready to explore once again.

I miss being able to drive and stop to eat.

Or pull over and see the beauty of the country.

I wonder what those who have passed away would think of today?

One thing that I have not been able to do –

IS GET A HAIR CUT!

It now has been 75 days!

And it is getting long and curly – which is natural for me!

Back in the ’70’s – I had long hair – although it was tight curls.

And for almost ten years – I rode a motorcycle.

Those days are long gone!

Now days I keep it cut and trimmed – usually every four weeks!

Since I started Juice Plus – it seems to grow faster!

So today – I am going to show you what it looks like now.

The question is ” DO I LET SHERRY CUT IT” ?

Or do I just bite the bullet so to speak and keep going!

All I do now is shower – wash it – towel dry it –

and run my fingers through it!

No comb or brush –

and I put nothing in or on it!

My wife wants me to buy some “STUFF” for it.

She says it will hold the curls more!

So Here It Is!

I will let you be the judge – and comment if you like!

It has been 45 plus years since it has been this long

and it was way longer back then!

Now the abnormal has become the normal

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

Will wait for feed back!

Papas World – things I had to do – risky – so far – good.

During this time of not knowing how this all will turn out

I had to do a couple things that were risky

and I thought long and hard about.

The first was when my front tooth felt different

and it was actually loose!

OBOY – I was in Florida and I thought just get through this

get home and take care of it there.

Then we got home- I made the appointment

and COVID 19 happened!

So I canceled and waited it out!

Then it happened – it broke off – it was a crown –

but I had a gap right in the front!

Now – I had no choice – before it got infected –

I had to go to the dentist – so I made my appointment on line.

They would only do emergency’s.

I was worried – but I went in – they were the only people there

the husband and wife dental team.

He drilled it out – the post – and put in the temp.

No shots – there was no root.

But I would have to be careful and go back

when the crown came in!

That took place over several weeks and it all came out good.

I have my new crown – they were very professional

and there were no other patients there

and they wore gowns – masks – shields – gloves

and stayed away from me when not working on my mouth!

The next thing was the car – I have maintained it right on schedule

for seven years – and it now has 122,000 miles.

I needed a oil change

the last time was back in January just before we left for Florida.

I already was over the mileage and we had driven

a lot of miles while we were in Florida.

So – I made the appointment

and in I went – hardly anyone there!

I waited all by myself

They had put distance between all the seats

and no one was in there.

I got the oil change – replaced a bulb and was on my way!

Yesterday I saw my doctor – by phone!

I now have this app where you go into her office portal

and you can see and talk to her!

Since my heart attack almost seven years ago

I see my two doctors every six months and the one every twelve months.

That part was easy – but they have to draw blood every six months.

So – today I go to the office – where they have one person at a time.

They check your temp. plus she could see me yesterday.

I am feeling good , no head ache – cough – pink eye –

Then – I must wear a mask –

they take me right in – draw the blood and I leave

as quick as possible.

God bless these front line people!

So – during all these I had to make choices

I am healthy – have not taken the FLU shot in 15 years!

I take my Juice Plus and Omegas

I drink water all day – no dairy – very little sugars –

my one vice is coffee with almond cream.

However I am doing a 16 hour shred – fast

I do not eat for 16 hours after my dinner.

And I can have no coffee so I am having a cup of tea in the morning.

Welcome to Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Thank you

sometimes you just have to trust in your faith

Go in Peace – thanks be to God.

Papas World – Google – Yahoo – AOL – Facebook – OH MY!

Now – I am not this bad – my face book time is first thing in the morning

Sipping my coffee – and then I post my Blog for the day!

I then go to my home page

and MY criteria is to post something funny – something good

something to make you smile and or laugh

and a combination of all the above.

Once I have gone through all that – I will read comments or posts

and then it is time for me to open my mail and start deleting!

For face book I am done for the day! About 45 minutes worth!

The only thing I use GOOGLE for is to bring up YAHOO!

Where if I want to KNOW anything – I search for it!

My wife – Sherry – uses GOOGLE!

For whatever reason – I have always used YAHOO!

What I do not do is repost unproven statements –

I find – unless they are fact checked by me

I am not going to help them destroy our nation.

For that is what they are designed for – to divide and conquer.

I also UN FOLLOW – NOT UNFRIEND

That way we can still communicate

but I do not have to SEE all the negative – hurtful posts!

I also do not forward crazy things

such as you will get $$$$ if you forward this to TEN PEOPLE!

These are designed to get people into your friends lists

and then HACK THEM!

IT IS A SCAM!

There – I said it – I look for positives not negatives.

The reason for my blogs is to tell stories – memories –

about me – my family – friends – and travels

and everyday life.

A journal so to speak – somewhere – after I am gone –

a place to come to and read of my thoughts – ideas and my memories.

Before I am unable to remember and for my family!

I want to thank you for reading

Papas World – a Mothers day to remember – covid19

Sometimes – you just have to suck it up – still maintain –

And see your family!

That happened yesterday – Mother’s Day – 5-10 – 20

The year we were sheltering for COVID19 !

We decided after 58 days – and this being a special day

we would make the trip and see the families

while still social distancing.

We have not been to either set of family houses since Christmas.

We left for Florida the 28th. of January –

Came back home March 4th.

and 10 days later went into Sheltering!

The Tree little ones as I call them –

Bode – age 5 – Taylor and Cassidy – age 9.

We miss them terribly – as every day after school they would be here

until one parent picked them up –

and in the morning – Bode and his mother would be here

after she dropped the twins off at school

and wait until Bode had to be at preschool at 9 am.

Sarah – mother Debby – Sherry – Maddy and Ella

The three oldest – even though they are now older

the bond is still there

They live 1 1/2 hours away

But we always attend special events for them.

The social distancing is hard – you want to hug.

But just talking to them – well – it made this a very special day.

As we age – thoughts tend to get lost – memories fade –

but – I think this day because of the virus –

will always be remembered

and we caught it in a picture

to be talked about for years to come!

Mothers day – 2020 – MORMOR – meaning in Swedish – MOTHERSMOTHER!

Papa’s World – at 70 – feeding my brain – keeping memory

What I take every day – double dose – Omega’s by Juice Plus

A couple years ago – The Juice Plus Company introduced a new product.

” The Omega Blend + ” OMEGA’S 3 – 5- 6 – 7 – 9 .

I turn 70 years old in a couple days – and – I am doing what I can to retain memory – both short term and long term. I do not like the ” FISH TASTE” of Omega’s on the market. So when this came out – I was delighted to find out that first – there is no fish taste or after taste , and the win – win for me is it is made out of ALGAE – which is where the fish get the omega from !

I am strict on the fish I eat – no farm raised and only Salmon from North Atlantic . Mercury is a major concern for me – so ALGAE – ( they have their own Algae farms ) was the selling point !

The Omega’s 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 9 – Orange flavor!

Today – I feel that I am doing the most I can – writing this blog keeps my mind sharp

( after all – I am not a TECHIE – so remembering is essential in Blogging )

If you would like more information – yes my wife is a distributor and a guiding force in my life being a certified health coach – you can contact through email at her site : http://www.sf.juiceplus.com and also search the site for research – video’s and information !!!!

I hope this helps you out – I know it has helped me and by the way – the capsules do dissolve after taking them – but if you do not like swallowing capsules – you can open and sip the fluid which to me tastes like a orange creamsicle !

Papa’s World – Laughter – living – health – evolving

Image may contain: 2 people
My thought in life – think young – smile – be involved with your grand kids – and look for the positives and let the negatives roll off your back !

Every day in my life – I look for what is funny and positive – keeping a open mind – I avoid News Channels – seeking information on my own.

I have come to maintain my healthy living style with my wife – Sherry – who is a certified Health Coach – thank goodness for that.

Image may contain: 2 people, including Sherry Overbeck Fitzsimmons, people smiling, eyeglasses and closeup

This June will be our 37 th. anniversary – seems like only yesterday – and next week I turn 70 and in two months she also turns 70.

In marriage as in life – compromise is a must – as is laughter – and in our case travel and family – most important to us is family. We have a close group of a few friends – trying to get together every four or five months.Since we are scattered about over a 400 mile range – sometimes that can be a little daunting.

Image may contain: 6 people, including Michael Myers, people smiling, people sitting and shoes

Our family where we live consists of Five grand daughters and the newest – and only Boy ! As you can guess – he has all our hearts. Both mother’s and their mother – whom is called MORMOR ( Swede for Mother’s Mother) promote healthy living and eating. ALL are on the product called Juice Plus – as well as the Omega’s – from Algae – not fish oil – and try to be gluten free.

The oldest does not eat meat – and has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Lynchburg in Va. We have two more soccer players – a gymnastic – who all the time is doing gymnastic moves – a Equestrian – and a Ballet and Modern dancer.

They are very important to us and I can honestly say – their youth keeps us young in body and mind.

June 25 th. 1982

The years have flown by – we are now watching our grand children going off to college. But – the legacy that we brought forth almost 13 years ago – has been instilled in each and every one of them as well as their parents.

Today – we are living life to the plus one day at a time – walking 3 plus miles a day – doing shreds ( getting rid of toxins ) going dairy free and gluten as much as we can.

And – for me – sharing good thoughts – smiles and interesting family – friends and my life blogs.

My motto through life :

” Do all the small things well and they in turn will take care of the larger things ” ! Hope you enjoyed the read – HGD !!!!

Papa’s World – and then the rains came – lightening – winds – trees down

We had to be at the library at 3:00 PM. on Thursday –

We had stopped at Marcus & Tammy’s to pick up library books

We had the twins and Bode –

and then it started – lightening and thunder.

Good morning

We drove the short distance –

I was going to let them all out in front of the library !

I pulled right into a space right in front of the entrance –

Then literally –

ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE !

The rains came so hard – going sideways with the wind.

It was like a fire hose had been trained on us !

Windshield wipers could not keep up.

The wind picked up – we tuned to 103 TOP news radio – DC.

Gusts of 60 MPH – torrential rain – take cover –

Then the lightening picked up –

Sherry checked her google weather app –

Instead of showing rain –

it was SOLID YELLOW LIGHTENING strikes.

The kids got scared –

the twins went to the floor in the back seat –

Bode came up front to Sherry’s lap –

We could not see out of the car for more than 10 feet!

A head light no more than 20 feet away.
The car with the head light

We calmed the kids down – telling them we had rubber tires beneath us.

There was no chance of getting out and running into the library –

The lightening and thunder was continuous.

Cassidy on floor in back

Cassidy got real quiet she was so scared.

Taylor comforting Cassidy

Taylor clutched her build a bear – talking to Cassidy –

telling her not to touch metal –

we would be okay because we had tires !

Where we parked
Library with roof over hang

We were parked right in front – the over hang was just across the sidewalk

What was really scary was lightening would hit –

A very loud crack and then the wind –

Bending those trees you see almost over touching the sidewalk.

The park right across the street

Legacy park was right across the street –

about a football field away –

This is a 15 acre park –

They closed it right after the storm quit

TREES WERE DOWN !

Legacy Park

Branches were everywhere – it was a mess and so close to us in the car

When it was over after almost 40 minutes –

we went inside.

It continued a soft rain –

We got home and I discovered shingles from our roof in the yard

The flag – flag pole and the bracket had been ripped right off the porch.

Small branches were everywhere

The top 12 feet of our neighbors tree came off-

and lacked the width of a finger

from going through his living room window.

On our walk this morning –

this pond came up 3 to 4 feet

and the feeder streams ares still rushing water into it.

Legacy Park
Legacy park

Less than 300 yards from where we sat in the car.

Legacy Park
Legacy Park

Some of these trees – the roots were bigger than garage doors !

We have not had much rain in the last two months –

and I think that weakened the root systems where the soil

was extremely dried out !

So much for all those in Government who say

” THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE ” !

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD

Where friends and family meet.

Papa’s World – SWEET 16 our grand daughter ELLA !

I remember the day all those years ago –

when her mother turned the SWEET 16.

Yesterday – it was Ella – our second to oldest grand daughter !

Ella Myers

When she was little – barely walking – she would run to me –

climb into my lap – or around company – hide behind my legs.

We almost lost her when she was really young –

She got something from a turtle –

and she spent almost a week in the ICU and hospital –

so small and so afraid.

A drawing of a Turtle eating a Strawberry
in Pencil drawn by Ella Myers

Now today – she has a roomful of turtles – pictures – memento’s

drawings – who would of guessed !

TINY as her dad calls her

Through the years – from broken foot – to sprained wrist –

To another broken bone in her foot –

She was stepped on in soccer ( her love)

To coming down the wrong way on it –

Sitting out two years of playing soccer –

to coming named as MVP on her JV team –

as a Sophomore –

Now she is once again ready for travel soccer !

TINY no more.
Almost as tall as Sherry who is 5 ‘ 9 “

Turning 16 – drivers permit

about to start her Junior year –

and after TWO YEARS of sitting out travel soccer

She tried out and made the team as a Midfielder!

And – like her sister – can run !

Without practice – she can run a sub 6 minute mile !

With her tiny admirers

In the picture above – a box of LEGO’S – special box –

And a letter from the both of us

She loves Star Wars – and this is a Star wars lego.

Papas World – Sheltering Day#56 – birthday!

May 7th. 2020 – 71 years old – Pandemic – Social Distancing

Guess I am always going to remember this one!

My wife Sherry – made it a very special day – but she messed up –

and two days before – let the cat out of the bag.

We were going to practice SOCIAL DISTANCING –

BUT – we were going to use our patio which is very large

over 500 square feet and enclosed by a fence and the house

and each family of grand kids will come at specific times

so no one is here at the same time!

My little buddy would also be here
Bode – this picture taken two years ago
gosh – how I miss them all

The first family of Mike – Debby – Maddy – Ella and Sarah

came at 12:30 pm. They parked outback – walked around the back yard

and into the patio –

where we had seating for everyone but at least six feet apart.

They gave me cards they had made – the three girls –

they always make me special crafted cards.

I cherish them and save each one.

Have since they were little!

Now the whole family except Ella – eats very little meat

so we ordered a pizza delivery –

we paid on the site and they delivered

they do not even see you or knock

they text that the pizza is by the front door and then drive off!

We had also fruit – gluten free chips – salsa – wheat less pretzels

And my favorite cake that we made a special trip to WEGMENS

White coconut cream cake! ( which has been years since I had)

We celebrated by each staying in our own seats – laughing –

and then the text – the second group were on their way.

Time to leave – no hugs – but lots of smiles – kind words.

They left – and then it was time to see the little ones and their parents

same routine – the little ones have followed their older cousins

each in turn made special cards and gave to me

(Tammy – Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy & Bode !

How I miss them all.

They dressed up – the little ones – just for this occasion.)

I guess at my age I am sentimental – but to me –

these are the best presents – the cards

for years and years I have saved them!

It will be fun one day to bring them all out and show them

when they are all grown up!

We spent two hours just the same as we did with the older ones.

Sheltering in place on my birthday – strange no hugs –

no handshakes – but – the smiles and laughs.

Earlier I had gotten a call –

From my two sons back in NWPA –

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD” !

I AM BLESSED – my wife made this all happen –

And the boys called me!

What more could I ask for –

A PUZZLE!

Sherry got me another puzzle – 500 pieces!

And a new warm pull over shirt –

which in this freaky Spring of rain and cold

I SHALL WEAR!

Sheltering in place Day# 56 – best birthday ever –

now to get busy and put PUZZLE # 8 together

glad when this is all over!

Welcome to Papa’s World

Papas World – took a little road trip – to buy some seeds

It has now passed TWO MONTHS since I had my HAIR CUT

and today I looked in the mirror

YEP THIS IS ME!!!!! LOL

I have decided to wait as long as I can –

no place to get one anyway

and not that I do not trust her

but my wife is encouraging me to let it go!

Jerry Garcia I am not – but getting there!

So – anyway – we went to a team members house

about one hour and fifth teen minutes away

You see she has started a TOWER GARDEN FARM

with over 20 TOWER GARDENS!

And she also grows and sells seedlings!

Other Tower Garden growers wanted strawberry plants

Which right now at different growers we use from all over the country

Do not have any – so we purchased 60!

We have a small strawberry patch in the ground as seen here.

But wanted to start some in our Tower Garden

and two other team members also wanted some.

After we were there and toured the Towers

She had 10 inside and 10 outside

and quite the operation in various stages

We made our purchases and then drove through the Va. countryside

for another hour and twenty minutes

This whole time we practiced social distancing with our masks.

We arrived at the second team members house

She had set up two tower gardens

and had a whole table full of seedlings growing with grow lights!

And she wanted 31 strawberry plants as she had two more

tower gardens to set up!

One of the two tower gardens
we have set up plus our indoor
tower garden in the garage

We delivered the plants and Friday – the rest of the strawberries

plus a whole tray full of seedlings which two more team members wanted

well we have arranged to meet them while still practicing

Social Distancing!

All in all our little day trip turned into a 6 1/2 hour journey

and over 150 miles

Oh – I might add – we had to leave the house

Our dryer had to be fixed

and the only way was for us to leave and the repairman come in

Such has now become the norm from the abnormal.

Papas World – Sheltering – warm days – seems normal!

We finally had some warm weather a couple days in a row!

Friday – Saturday and Sunday – low 70’s to low 80’s.

Beautiful skies – blue – white clouds and sunshine!

After Sunday supper – I sat down on the front porch and noticed

the clouds were coming in from the South West.

Going to storm I thought – but it was warm –

and I told Sherry if it does and the temps drop

we will have our first Spring Thunder and Lightening storm!

THE GRATEFUL DEAD
To all you deadheads out there!

We had watched our church service streamed live

enjoyed a great breakfast

and decided to walk to our town center 1 1/2 miles away.

So we could get in our three plus mile walk!

When we got over there after walking through the 15 acre park

we saw they had set up the Farmers Market –

with the whole width plus some – the street in between the booths

and each booth had yellow caution tape in front

so you could not get close.

You had to point and tell them what you wanted!

It was very well set up with a large table in the middle of the street

with hand sanitizer on it to disinfect your hands before and after

you made the purchase.

Since it was late and they were closing up –

I do not know if it was cash or credit card or both.

But – next week we are going as they had hanging baskets for $10.00

and Tomato plants for $2.50

( I always buy one to see if I can produce better than the Tower Garden)

I can’t!!!!!

The storm came in later at 10 PM. with lightening and Thunder

and a little bit of rain.

This morning it is warm 59 degrees.

Everything is lush – green and our roses are starting to bloom!

Papas World – Sheltering Day#51 – yard work – planting

Finally – it would be warm all day – mid ’70’s – bright sunshine

Time to get outside after all the rain and cold days!

Even though we have had to stay inside from our walks

The rain has left the lawn thick and lush!

I have now mowed at least a half dozen times – seems like every 4 days

except when it rains and then I sneak it in between showers!

The side yard has really filled in – that has been my problem area

I also started two years ago – putting lime pellets down

in the fall time!

One of the outdoor Tower Gardens – the other is in the enclosed patio

It has been cold at night – high 30’s to mid 40’s –

yet with all the rain and peaks of sunshine – it is growing!

We decided this year LESS IS MORE in planting flowers!

99 % of the greens you see – flower and come up each year

except the green bushes !

So we decided to POT this year with flowers

with three or four in the flower beds

and the rest in the enclosed patio.

It takes me 60 minutes with a push lawn mower

trimming included and weed whacker

to mow the lawn

a few people tell me they no longer do this

but I enjoy it !

It is a form of exercise for me – almost 5000 steps!

And I get the feeling of something I have created

and see the results of all that I have planted in the 14 years!

All of this I have planted by hand and cultivated.

I only wish this bush would look like this all summer

but – after it blooms it loses it petals

and new leaves are formed along with getting larger.

The grass is so soft and spongy like

almost as if you are walking on a carpet.

I have a lawn company called Bio-Turf

for four years now –

and they do a terrific job.

Six different times they come to the house each year

and do all the spreading – plugging – and seeding and lime spreading

VERY HAPPY WITH THEM!

The pot to the right is all MINT
and you can smell it as you walk up the bank
the enclosed brick area is my strawberries
and last year and this year my Potato’s

Our first rose of the year – with many more to come

they will bloom – go away and later in the summer bloom again

The three Swedish horses that Maddy – Ella and Sarah made for us

laying in the bed.

And – with the same theme – one potted planter

everything else comes up each year.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I hope you enjoyed my little tour of the yard

I hope to do the same tour of the enclosed patio.

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papas World – Dentist – collect food – deliver to five families – Sheltering.

The days go by – routines set in –

then the unthinkable – at least to me – happens!

The front tooth crown – number 8 to be exact –

BREAKS off and I had bitten into a piece of bread!

Now – here I am holding it – looking into the mirror –

SHELTERING DAY # 49 – DENTIST!

So – Sherry went onto the dentist site –

They have closed for all except emergency’s!

But – it lets me schedule – 9:30 AM. Next day!

I arrive – 20 minutes early – door locked – no lights

It is pouring out – so I decide to wait – ten minutes

and both dentists show up.

Thank goodness – I would not have to smile missing my front tooth!

I went in and they greeted me – they officially open tomorrow

as per the Governor Ralph Northan of Va.

But – they are caught between a rock and hard place.

They have three employees – of which only one

said they would come back –

The other two say they are making more money staying home!

I believe in the stimulus – but to me this is wrong.

If the state is opening up slowly and your job is there

then you should go back or risk your job is gone.

So – they give me two different ways to fix this.

One – replace the crown – but – because the walls of the tooth

are narrow – it just might break off again – but maybe not!

Two – have a implant – bone graft – and it would be months long!

We do not have dental insurance

Had it when we worked – but always ended up paying a lot!

So – I looked at cost for each and they would give me a discount on both!

I did not want to go through a implant as I have had two of those done.

I selected the crown – without novocaine as the root was gone.

After it was done – he told me he was surprised

at just how strong it was! WIN FOR ME!

Now – today – we will drive to LINK – our County FOOD PANTRY!

Tammy dropped off food she had collected from her neighborhood.

Still Social Distancing – I opened garage door and the trunk.

She filled it up along with what we had already gathered!

We also volunteered for the month of May – to deliver food to families.

Today – we have FIVE FAMILIES to deliver to.

We have our instructions – texted then ahead of time –

We just leave the bags at their door!

These families – this is the only food they have.

And we have been collecting for three weeks.

The list of families has gone at least five times as high

since no jobs!

We need to help these people and make our great country

GRATEFUL in GIVING.

We have done all this while Sheltering – except for the dentist

I have not come in contact with anyone for 49 days!

I am praying that my dental appointment

will be okay – they both were covered

head to toe – masks – shields gloves.

I feel grateful to them and also saddened

in that they also are struggling

and haveing to go through this with their employees.

These times require some strength –

Maybe a drink or two –

But also a time of gratitude –

to be able to help those less fortunate

Giving – sharing and praying

Just another 24 hours in my life!

Papas World – Day # 47 – Sheltering – HAIR – HAIR!!

Well – you know it is time when you start scratching your head! LOL!

At least that is what happens to me as my hair gets long!

But – the NOISE from NEWS has me also scratching my head!

It is not like you can go outside and protest – although some have!

And – not keeping SOCIAL DISTANCING!

Since I write – save and schedule a couple weeks in advance

The talk now is some are easing into reopening

while others are jumping in feet first and no masks on their heads!

I do not know how this will unfold –

but I do know that with this as with most other things

It will become ( pardon the expression)

A pissing match and both sides of the aisle

will once again go at each others throats!

Here I am – stuck in the middle

Jokers to the left

Clowns to the right!

But – this is society – always has been

and it seems always will be.

We seem to self destruct and makes you wonder

just how have we managed this for thousands and thousands of years?

So – I write – not knowing what the subject will be!

You see – as I post on face book – every day – I post FIVE THINGS!

To make you smile – to be happy – make you think and provide

a good thought for the rest of your day!

Which – today – I SAVED TO MY BLOG SITE

and Shared them one by one – and not being able to see them clearly

before I share as when saved they are so small I can’t see them!

So – I decided to write as I shared them –

and this blog reflects just that!

I see stories in my mind – I see memories –

I can not explain it – nor do I understand it!

Once again – I share my thoughts

and right now my hair is long –

as always with me – it makes me scratch my head!

But as always I write – I conjure up thoughts

And thank the Lord at my age I can still do this!

Papas World – Day# 44 – I need a haircut – going back to my youth!

My oh my – I told Sherry several weeks ago – you might want to cut my hair!

But then I decided – the heck with it – you see –

back in the late ’60’s and through the ’70’s

I had long hair and rode a motorcycle

Just a freedom of expression.

I was not for the WAR in NAM.

I had friends who were recruited and drafted

and some never made it back.

I also was in a car accident when I was a senior in H.S.

and spent 51 days in the hospital –

not knowing if I would ever walk again.

Me my Senior year

I was never drafted – but I went to work one week after graduation

I had too – and 47 1/2 years later

I retired from that same company.

So – that was my time of having long hair all those years ago

The problem at least in my mind – my hair is natural curley

So – I looked like Carrot Top only light brown!

I was a Toe Head growing up!

Today – it has been almost two months without a haircut

and since I started Juice Plus 14 years ago

my hair grows really fast – so much that to keep it from covering my ears

I get a haircut every four weeks!

So – I am over due by four weeks and today it is

a Silver – curly gray – white and long!

I have no idea how long this will last but I am not going to expose myself

to this horrible virus –

do you know that now it has surpassed ALL other illness’s

including Heart and Cancer to become number one cause of death

in our great country!

And all in seven weeks with Social Distancing and Sheltering

in place!

So – here I am – fast becoming a HIPPIE once again! LOL

Thinking back all those years ago

The wind in my hair as I rode my bike –

That was before mandatory helmets

And – just after that phase – I met my wife to be.

Now today she will see just what she missed or –

not missed – as it was as curly as this picture.

Papas World – Sheltering – Day # 43 – THE LADIES!

When we married – each for the second time 38 years ago

She brought into my life two beautiful daughters.

I raised them as my own as she helped me raise my two sons.

Today – after all these years – we remain close –

And they have become the THREE LADIES IN MY LIFE!

Debby – Sherry & Tammy

They are married now – one living 10 miles away

with a set of twin girls – both nine.

And the only boy ( grandson) who is five.

The other lives 65 miles away –

and has three teen age daughters

One in college – two at home!

Maddy – soon to be 20
Ella – soon to be 17
and Sarah – soon to be 14
taken as we celebrated my 60th birthday.

While we do not see them as often as we do the younger ones

and now in day #43 of SHELTERING –

Sherry asked me when this is over –

What is the first thing you want to do?

See our family I said.

My sons live seven hours away.

Back in NWPA

We try to get back there when we can.

But that is hard to do.

So we call them – catching up –

My youngest son has his own Energy Auditing business

and contracts with the state and power companies.

My oldest son runs the crews for him.

We are very proud of all four

and when this is over will sometime this summer make that trip back home.

The days seem to run all together –

although Sherry remains very busy in her internet stay at home business.

Her monthly check has increased.

Health and nutrition and growing your own produce

fits in this time of Sheltering.

Debby and Tammy
all those years ago

Today I cherish my LADIES in my life.

We all are here for each other

and both have followed in their mothers footsteps

Sharing – selling – and teaching good health and nutrition.

Papas World – Sheltering Day# 40 – puzzles – memories

It seems only yesterday – Florida – family vacations –

and WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG!

After 40 days – your mind tends to wander a bit.

You put puzzles together

for me under 500 pieces and must be

RAVEN BURGER!

You walk around the house a lot

and you look at pictures on the walls

Your wife digs out the old photo books

and you stop each time you pass the bedroom

where they sit piled neatly stacked on the bed.

All those years ago
Debby and Tammy

The memories come flooding back

the trips to church for youth group

the after school pickups for cheerleading

and basketball and soccer.

The stops at the cider mill for doughnuts and apple cider

the ice cream store

A little town and a neighborhood of close friends

Still to this day we keep in touch!

Upper right Jim and Dottie
friends since we played softball
I attended their wedding some 40 years ago
Lower left Mike and Carol
neighbors for 12 1/2 years
playing jokes on each other
Lower right Buck and Cindy
neighbors and friends for almost 40 years
traveling the world together

Now – the girls are grown with families of their own

The three oldest grand daughters
now 19 – 16 and 13
soon to be 20 – 17 & 14!
Maddy – Ella & Sarah

You wander the house – looking at pictures while sheltering in place

You need a repairman for the fridge – the ice still works

but no water for cups – barely two years old.

It is time for the maint. on the air conditioners

you have a contract plan

the dryer is squeaking

all part of being a home owner.

Before the virus
the three little ones
9 – 9 & 5
soon they will be 10 – 10 & 6
Cassidy – Bode and Taylor

40 days and counting – you watch the news – read the paper

your 401 K is way down

yet – you go on –

memories of times gone by

What was abnormal
now is the norm

But through all of this – one constant remains

Sunday mornings – you sit at your kitchen table

and at 10 am. the live stream begins

Church is still there

God – if you are a believer

is still there – you pray and give thanks

you donate through the app

you still see the help we provide for those less fortunate

40 days Sheltering

Yes – it has been a long time –

a time to reflect – a time to think –

and a time to know your inner strength comes from

FAMILY – CHURCH – FRIENDS & PRAYERS

Papas World – SHELTERING Day# 39 – GOOD DEEDS!

In these times – we have found that the smallest of deeds

bring the biggest rewards!

There is a lady – I call her the CAT LADY!

Simply because she recuses cats!

But – she is in need of newspapers –

so every two weeks we save up our Washington Post

and make the 8 mile drive to deliver them to her front door!

Texting her that they are on her door step!

In the past – we have delivered groceries for our food pantry

called LINK!

Now – we are reaching out in this time of need for donations

to this food pantry – which is aided by the churches in the area.

Usually once a month each congregation collects food

at their services and takes it over.

Since there are no physical services

ours are streamed on line –

The food is not being collected.

Last week we put out a appeal

and Sherry and I took four bags to the drop off site.

We are doing it again this week – people drop off at our front porch

and we in turn take it to the food pantry.

With the shut down – more families need this food!

Staying in touch with local friends

Taking a hot meal to a neighbor who has had a bone marrow transplant

exchanging puzzles with friends and neighbors

Exchanging a onion or face masks with friends

dropping face masks off at the church mail box

for the youth leaders aging grand parents

It all has to do with small deeds – kindness –

giving what you can and knowing how it makes you feel

in this time of SHELTERING!

And then at the end of the week –

Social hour ( hours) with friends who are apart by hundreds of miles

Seeing the smiles – sharing the laughter –

GOOD DEEDS come in small packages.

SHELTERING
Day# 39
We shall beat this

Papa’s World – living healthy through my grand kids !

A few days ago –

I saw a post that stated ” GRAND PARENTS REMAIN YOUNG ” while watching their grand kids ! Boy – that was right on !

As most of you know – Sherry and I – pick up the twins from school -bring them home until their father picks up the youngest ( only boy grandchild) and then stops to pick up the twins !

Tammy opened her store almost one year ago – Kids consignment store – which is open every day except Monday 10 am. – 5 pm.

So – they needed help and we stepped in along with Marcus’s parents Jennie and Gehard. Since Bode’s preschool is close to them – they pick him up at 1:00 pm. and then Marcus goes after work to pick him up.

Now I must say – I really enjoy my little trip to the school – a little over one mile away. “PAPA – BE FIRST IN LINE ” is what they tell me. Well – even though I am in line one hour before they get out – most times I am second !!! That person must get there after breakfast !But – I use that time to listen and read !

Listening to my favorite radio station – not classic rock or country or rap or whatever else is out there – but ” SPORTS RADIO” 106.7 The Fan! I enjoy kicking back – using a couple wadded up blankets – for a pillow – and just spacing out listening to the talk show. This relaxes me and yes sometime I catch a quick 10 minute power nap ! When I was working – I used my lunch – one hour – every day to do the same thing ! Habits are hard to break !

But – I also listen to these two little girls – talking – conversing and sometimes a argument breaks out ! Now at that time I either look back and tell them to stop or I turn up the radio so loud – that they become silent ! LOL But I find they actually talk so much like adults – on their own daily lives.

Being with them makes me feel young at heart – relating to them – and oh my goodness – the questions are endless – and” WHY” is always asked.

But – then it gets adult like with the answer ” OF COURSE ” or ” ACTUALLY ” or “PAPA” ! I love that – and it makes you think when you answer the “WHY” !

” WHY ARE YOU NUMBER TWO AND NOT NUMBER ONE ” ? I get that one almost every week ! But – how can you argue the fact that life is about staying young even though it might only be a frame of mind !

Turn back time – can’t – capture thoughts words and deeds in pictures – you can – but staying young is a art that we all try to master.

Mine is a matter of mind over physical – thinking – acting and doing! I may not be number one in line but I think I try harder at being number two – after all – “PAPA – WHY AREN’T YOU NUMBER ONE ” keeps me on my toes each week to give a answer and that my friends keeps me young !

#homeagain #HGD #just #JP

Papa’ s World – Healthy living – one day at a time

How many ways do you say ” I LOVE YOU ELLA ” !

The twins gravitate toward their cousin Sarah – Bode – his idol is Ella.

It has been this way ever since he could walk and talk. ” Is Ella going to be there ” ? he will ask. Ella is our second oldest grand daughter – who will turn 16 this July. Bode is our youngest gran child

and the only boy out of SIX ! He turns FIVE in November . As you can see here – he absolutely adores her. ” Ella – you want to play “? he asks.

Both have been brought up eating Healthy – as have all the grand kids. That is priority number one for their parents – even though they both are cousins – it runs in the family.

This was taken before Ella’s soccer game and during her older sister’s game. Both play – Maddy is the starter on Midfield – varsity and Ella starts as midfielder on the J.V. team.

The varsity is 8 wins 2 loses & 1 tie.

The J.V. are 7 wins 1 loss & 3 ties.

Very proud of these two and Maddy signed a Letter Of Intent to play soccer at The University of Lynchburg in Va. We will make trips to watch her play.

Bode loves his cousin and she in turn choose to sit with him prior to her game – she has the biggest heart and to see them was priceless.

We all practice living to the plus – being together – and supporting one another. This is but one more day in PAPA’S WORLD .

And Bode supports his Ella !

Papa’s World – hanging with Rad ( Radoslav Lorkovic)

Not many times in your life you get to hang out with a classically trained

Folk and Blues musician – who has produced three live albums

and five critically acclaimed sole recordings !

RAD

Sitting in church a few weeks ago –

the announcement came that August 10, 2019 –

A folk concert with Rad and Ronny Cox – movie and TV star –

and a folk singer in his own right –

would perform –

And if anyone could open up their home

and welcome them as guests for one night

To let them know after church.

The day began when they arrived around 3:00 pm.

They had preformed the night before –

and after small talk –

I showed them to their rooms –

where they both rested prior to getting ready for the nights concert.

We did manage to it down for 30 minutes or so and talk.

Rad is very unique in that he also plays the Accordion

Which is dear to my heart – because my mother also played it !

She traveled to lumber camps and played music

My father played the spoons and my uncle Jack the wash board.

Rad on the accordion

His music was haunting

and later I asked him how much he and Ronny practiced together –

Not at all –

have played together for 13 years –

Ronny lives in LA. Rad in Chicago

Ronny’s agent plans their adgenda

then they meet up at whatever airport they need to be at

and any new songs or music they just blend it together !

Rad on the keyboard with the piano also

Born in Croatia and moving to the U.S.A. at a early age –

He grew up in Idaho and now resides in Chicago-

But also has a condo in Croatia.

Tom – Ronny Cox – Sherry and Rad

He has played in Carnegie Hall –

The Kennedy Center

along with small settings of taverns on the upper Mississippi River –

To castles in Italy –

the Yup’ik villages of Alaska –

to being along side such greats as Odetta – Jimmy LaFace –

Shawn Mullins – Greg Brown – Ellis Paul to name a few.

Rad -Sherry and Ronny Cox

His life is a adventure – traveling the World –

Hosting cruises to Croatia –

Spending time with his girlfriend in Chicago

and playing music with the Movie star – actor –

and known Folk singer Ronny Cox –

For 13 years they have traveled to little venues

Sherry and Rad in our home

Every once in a while –

In Papa’s World

Papas World – Day# 39 – sheltering in place – we manage – 39 years!

It was almost 39 years ago – where did the time go!

We were married June 25th. 1982!

Together one year prior to that.

39 years!

And today – I would not shelter in place with anyone else.

As beautiful today
as she was those years ago
Sherry – our honeymoon
in the Dominican Republic

We were each married before – each had two children

but our world then as it is today

revolved around the fact we found each other.

Today as it was then
has not changed

The years have been blessed for us –

but it all seems to be going so fast.

From loading our big country van

and piling the kids in

leaving at 11:00 pm.

to drive 10 hours to the beach for vacation.

The kids asleep – breakfast and lunch packed

we could not afford to stop and eat

but we would find a place- a rest stop – beside a river

and they were happy and we were happy.

The excitement of staying at the beach

or our very first vacation

a cottage on Lake Erie

We scraped and saved

But we did it!

Today – we all are sheltering in place

Catching up by phone – messenger – face book – zoom.

We are blessed and sheltering in place

but I still dream – I still think back to that time

“GIVE ME THE BEAT BOYS AND FREE MY SOUL “

As beautiful today as she was then

Papas World – Day # 33 Sheltering in place, ZOOM

As the days pass
we see new things
helping out people from a distance

ZOOM – which Sherry has been using since it first

appeared – for her network business in The Juice Plus Company.

Now – there is the weekly “HENS PARTY”

A group that has met the last couple years or so

onec a week for lunch and a movie.

Now it is a once a week ZOOM PARTY!

Of course you do not
get all dressed up
no make up
hats – drinks
and lots of laughs

Now – we await our second “FRIENDS ZOOM” on Friday nights

for “HAPPY HOUR”!

There are four couples – who have been friends for I guess 33 years & more!

So – we decided to “ZOOM” and it was new to them!

But – a happy hour with fireballs – some beer and Vodka & Tonics.

First one was themed

HATS & SUNGLASSES

Not sure what this one will be

But it turned into a THREE HOUR HAPPY HOUR!

It has been peaceful at home
we walk – ride our bikes
and take long country back roads rides.

We are trying to keep it as normal as we can.

Once a week we select a different vendor or eatery

and order for pickup or curbside

to help support them in this time of need

to keep them going – a little bit of ourselves to them

Since I am not allowed
to do laundry
seems I do not know what to put where
I fold ( sometimes)
and put my own clothes away
I do the outside
mowing – trimming
in the SUNSHINE!

Family – this is the hardest for us – we are near the three youngest

The three oldest are a hour and half away

and they are in the age group now where they mostly do their own thing

19 – 16 & 13 – soon all three will have birthdays

Then the younger three – twins – 9 years old

and the youngest and only boy 5 years old

Bode – MorMor – Taylor & Cassidy
Each night like clock work
Cassidy calls her MorMor
and Bode – whom hangs on every movement
she does – Taylor – who is old before her day
and talks to her MorMor

It is the hardest with these three –

but we have done FAMILY ZOOMS

and have seen them from a distance

laughing – ZOOMING the three oldest in their yard

and of course all the family at the same time

This has been the hard part for us

See – we are a family unit – constantly staying in touch

making the journey to see both sets of families

sharing times all together.

Friday ” ZOOM HAPPY HOUR”

We are blessed – we try to keep it normal

ZOOM has become a big part of our lives

Church – Juice Plus teams – family – friends

and last night for the first time – Book club.

Day # 33
Sheltering in place
Social distancing

Papa’s World – took a little trip – to watch a Ballet

Monday – Happy Memorial Day

Saturday – we made the trip back to Winchester Va. –

This time we decided to change it up and take another route –

Through the beautiful countryside of NVA – horse country – Route 50.

To all of you

We first made this trip TWENTY YEARS ago –

almost to the day –

only it was coming South from New York State – to check out our new jobs –

As we came through just around Middleburg Va. –

there was a huge Equestrian event going on –

hundreds of horses and thousands of people!

Yesterday – it was as if going back in time –

but the memory came alive again.

Our purpose was to go to Shenandoah University –

Conservatory Arts Academy –

where our grand daughter Sarah & her neighbor Olivia would dance.

Olivia (left) Sarah ( right)

Sarah is our youngest grand daughter of our oldest daughter.

She choose a long time ago not to play soccer

( although she was good)

But instead to DANCE – both Modern and Ballet !

Olivia – their neighbor who is going to be a Junior – has danced for years.

Sarah is in Middle School and I think will end up being the tallest of all three!

Sarah second from left

Very proud of our granddaughter – who performed flawlessly –

and to be able to control your movements while balancing on your toes is amazing.

Sarah all way to left – Olivia sixth from left in back

They preformed in Chopin’s Springtime Serenade –

Nouvelles Etudes & Ecossaise in D-Flat Major.

Sarah

Our little grand daughter – growing up –

dancing on stage in front of hundreds –

choosing dance and ballet over sports –

makes us very proud.

So far in our grand children here – we have 2 soccer players

One Dance & Ballet – One Equestrian – One Gymnastic –

And a little boy who seems to love all sports

and anything that has wheels !

We shall see as he is only four.

Olivia and Sarah

While Olivia and Ella – are classmates –

Olivia and Sarah have bonded –

Watching these two –

with the grace and strength it takes – and stamina –

I have to say the conditioning is everything and more than sports .

Tom & Sherry

I hope you like my little tribute to Sarah and Olivia – DANCE & BALLET –

An act that is so hard to follow –

At SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY – WINCHESTER VA.

Papa’s World-Growing up Eldred Pa. – part Six.

GOOD MORNING

Eldred – a small community situated by the Allegheny River

Among the rolling hills know as the old mountain range

” The Allegheny Mountains “

I wrote a blog a short while ago –

about the title before there was ” STAND BY ME “

There was Eldred –

where everybody knows your name.

Bob – me ( Tom ) – Greg – Mike – John – Sully – Gerry – Gus and Pat

We were friends – we were buddies –

we had each others back

And we once took a little trip down that river .

Canoeing the Allegheny River
I believe our Sophomore year

Our little group grew and grew –

We were part of a national group known as The Exployer’s !

Raising money for our trips –

Staying out of trouble –

Almost all of my buddies belonged

And the younger kids started to follow.

Me – number 65

We played sports –

we were not into trouble –

we did not smoke – which back then was a big deal !

A few who did got kicked off the team.

We lived – played and grew up in a small Western Pa. town

close to the South Western New York border

where every one knew your name

In all the years before – and the years since –

The faces have changed –

the names also –

but to this day it remains

North Main Street

The little town – where every one knew your name

South Main Street

Of ELDRED PA .

So the sign read & I had no idea who laid it on the porch!

Then Sherry got the text from a friend of hers

whom she networks with!

Just as I brought it inside –

She had left it and wanted to make sure we knew

before the high winds took it away!

Sherry and Papa

In all this Sheltering in place –

DAY# 31 to be exact for us –

The unexpected seems to become the norm.

Sherry
class of ’67
Smethport H.S.
NWPA

We have been saving newspapers for who I call

“THE CAT LADY” simply because she recuses stray cats!

Every two weeks during this time

we load the car with the paper bags

and drive the 8 miles to her house.

Where we take them and sit on her front porch

and then text her that they are there.

We also have been delivering to friends
the face masks that Sherry has been sewing
along with other personal items
all the while never coming in contact
with people staying yards and yards away.

This past Saturday – we drove 45 minutes to meet our oldest daughter

and one of the grand daughters

to give them our extra Tower Garden!

We have THREE producing and they had one.

Now – they will have two with one outside!

Tom (Papa)
class of ’67
Otto – Eldred H.S.
NWPA

I have found that in these times

The abnormal has now become the normal.

When we met up – Ella stayed in the car waving.

I transferred everything and we stayed a car length apart.

That was hard – but on the upside-

We had been in a quandary over how to buy our outdoor flowers

as we did not want to mix with people.

The abnormal
has become the normal

The place we met – has flowers and only two shoppers were there.

Plus it was set up where you could not go inside to pay

We were able to select our flats of flowers

pay without getting close to anyone

and load them into the car!

EVERYONE LOVES YOU

Papa’s World – Growing up Eldred Pa. Part Five

1800 ‘s Eldred Pa.

There was industry in Eldred Pa.

Manufactured Glass – two that I know of !

Both were located where the elementary school is now

and either by the park or Park Avenue.

Elementary school where the glass factory was

They were long gone when I was growing up –

but I heard about them.

Looking up Barden Brook

My time was spent many long days at this ball diamond –

and to the right – beyond the little building for the bathrooms –

was Barden Brook Creek !

I would play in the water there – catching craw fish –

and just on the other side –

were a myriad of dirt paths –

heading off into the woods –

I was scared to venture far –

and I remember them branching off in different directions.

Park Avenue and Mechanic street

Many of my grade school classmates lived in this area –

I was from the other side of town

North Main Street –

North Main Street Eldred Pa.

Slavin’s furniture was the big white building on the left –

To the right – the red building – the Fire Hall

And just up from that – The Masonic Hall –

Doctor’s office and the dentist office.

On the left side is now the Eldred Museum

with a tank coming out of the wall –

That was Frisbee’s Insurance when I was growing up

He always sent me a birthday card as we had the same birthdays !

You can just barley see my house on the left

5 or 6 houses up the street

This is where I played – roller skated

rode my bike –

South Main Street

I had to walk all the way down this street from North Main Street

to go to school – as far as you can see on the left –

I would guess it to be over a mile.

Eldred school – grades one through twelve.

I went four grades here before the new grade school was completed

and at that time the three towns

Eldred – Rixford and Duke Center along with Eldred Township

formed one school district –

Otto -Eldred High School – grades 7 through 12 .

Growing up ELDRED PA. part five

Papa’s World – Growing up – Eldred Pa. part four

The men of Eldred

I remember each and everyone of these men –

This was the volunteers for the fire department –

In every facet of my life growing up –

I most likely came in contact with them all at one time or other.

GROWING UP ELDRED PA. part four of Papa’s World.

Fire department
just down the street from my house

This was a busy building – where the men came together –

all volunteers and the ladies auxiliary also met.

And just across the street next to the Post Office was “SLAVINS ” !

Local hangout bar and meeting place for most of these people !

Run by Russ and Tootie Slavin – a local family –

who in each Slavin branch – all very good athletes

and known through NWPA !

I can remember every year – the firemen would come along the curb

in front of our house on North Main Street –

and with chalk would write and mark where each unit was to line up

and this would go all the way back to the Kendall bridge !

The MEMORIAL DAY PARADE marked the end of the school year

and the beginning of Summer !

The Kendall Bridge

I was always told that this bridge was one of only two –

The other I think was in Japan.

It was a two lane bridge – with a road coming off in the middle –

Spanning a railroad track – another road –

and a river running under it !

I do not know if that was true or not –

with a gas station ( Kendall) across from the entrance.

but it is still there today !

The parade back then and today – is always led by the veterans of the town

It seems like that number down through the years never dwindles.

For such a small town – ( 800 to 1000) people

It has provided the military of scores of men

in all the conflicts fighting for their country.

Terry – Ron – Freddie -Paul and Skeet
my brothers close friends

Two are now gone – three remain – four played baseball with my brother

Freddie was in the little league World Series.

Four played for my father

Ron and my father
Clarence Russel Fitzsimmons
known as Bob or Fitz

I was too young – I never went –

But there were families of friends who went every year

To far North in Canada fishing !

We had a old red barn down back –

three stories tall and a stable underneath –

I can still see in my mind

The red front and the big sliding gray door –

and to the left

DOZENS of fish heads nailed up on the wall

Muskie – Pike

Fish that they caught and brought home.

Roger went but I was born ten years younger

I never went but looked at hundreds of pictures !

Papas World – Day# 29 in sheltering in place.

When you are separated from friends by distance

you manage to get them all together through “ZOOM”!

Last evening – at 7:00 pm. this came about!

Welcome to Papa’s World
WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!
MY SITE: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

There is a bunch of us that have known each other for years and years

neighbors and small town – growing up together – friends!

And we decided that during this SOCIAL DISTANCING time –

we would do a SOCIAL HOUR over the internet using “ZOOM”!

Now – when we are together – one or two people in this case four –

always introduce a salute to health – life and laughter!

And – it began this way last night and continued for THREE HOURS!

But – along with that came the good times remembered –

the plans for a get together at the end of August

and still being debated as to when that will start and finish!

Jim and Mike are negotiating that with the latest being

celebrating ALL birthdays in September!

And I think Mike’s is toward the end of that month!

Now you notice that Mike is on here twice?

He is TECH savey and has his lap top and IPHONE.

One to see and one to hear! LOL

Many laughs – cheers and stories were told.

All in good fun and how during this time

at least for me – no haircut until this is over!

And yes – back in the late 60’s and mid 70’s

I did the long hair and motorcycle thing!

Now – we have decided that during this time of Sheltering in place

from our homes in Pa. – Va. Beach – NVA and N.C.

that we would do this every Friday night!

A few shots of Fireball ( Sherry and Cindy)

a couple beers – ( Tom)

and some wine ( Buck and Carol)

And a little of all the above ( Mike and Jim)

That at least we can practice SOCIAL DISTANCING

with a SOCIAL HOUR miles apart

And until we meet again in person

CHEERS – GOOD TIMES & GOOD FRIENDS!

Welcome to Papa’s World

Papa’s World – growing up Eldred Pa. – part three !

Terri – Boots – Mike

I grew up with my niece – Terri Luce and my brother Mike –

This was my early World – they were almost the same age .

Donna – my sister – became pregnant –

just after my younger brother Mike was born.

Donna was 15 years older than me & 20 years older than Mike.

Terri – Tom (me ) – Mike

We played together all the time – she was a little blond –

and Mike had curly Red hair .

I miss them both as they are now gone.

It was at this time – my mother would not let me go shirtless !

I was so skinny she thought people would think she was starving me !

Eldred at turn of century 1889

It seemed as I was growing up – we always had a flood !

One such flood – I was maybe ten years old –

I was told not to go down the street to the water !

Well – I did what I was told not to do !

I went behind Slavin’s furniture – and dug up some wooden pallets –

Somewhere I found some inner tube –

and I made a raft !

I launched it by the body shop – I had a long stick –

The water on main street was maybe 2 to 3 feet deep –

I did not know how to swim –

Unknown to me – a reporter from the paper was there

The Bradford Era !

He took a picture of me – standing on my little raft

With that stick in my hand –

pushing my raft down the street in front of Slavin’s bar.

To my surprise – that picture was printed the next day –

To the Bradford Era – the very same paper my dad always read –

delivered each morning – before he left for work!

Nothing was said until after supper that night .

I first was asked if I had gone downtown to the water ?

I said nothing – I could tell they knew !

Then – there it was – a picture of me on my raft with stick in hand !

Front page !

I got into trouble –

but deep inside

I had pride –

I had made the front page !

Just like my father had – after winning a bet on a heavyweight boxing match

He bet Herkie that Patterson would win –

And the loser had to wheel a wheel barrow down main street

with the winner riding inside.

My mom kept that picture and my sister also had it

along with dad being rolled down main street – FRONT PAGE !

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Growing up Eldred Pa. Part two !

Those huge telephone poles –

with lights on top for night baseball games –

I never saw them lit up-

Games were played in late afternoon and early evening –

It was magical – Cars would line the first base line –

all the way down and then form a semi circle beneath the trees

in the outfield !

The men would stand and lean against the the chain mail fence

also running down the roadway –

They were the regulars –

This was growing up ELDRED PA.

GOOD MORNING
PART TWO

The park – where my life circled around –

To the creek – wading in the water –

The swings and teeter totter –

The thing that went around and around – whatever you called it !

The Volleyball court –

and of course the ball diamond –

where they would continue to DRAG it year after year !

A old bed of box springs –

attached by a chain to someones truck –

around and around they would go –

circling the dirt infield –

where I swear ROCKS and PEBBLES grew !

I watched a lot of ball games there –

When I was around 5 to 7 –

My father was the Manager of what was called THE TOWN TEAM !

And – they were good – traveling to other area towns and playing –

Our main pitcher was Freddie – he actually played and pitched –

in the Little League World Series for the team that advanced !

My bother Roger in the back ground.

Everyone has a Hero growing up –

Mine was my brother Roger –

seen here in the background with his friend Paul !

This would of been ’55 to ’57 –

He was ten years older than me –

I tagged him everywhere he went –

Then – he was gone – to college

He or they had a club in our basement –

I would sneak down and sit silently

watching – listening – until they found me

Roger – gone but always remembered

Later in life – he never came back – he moved on and away –

but I would always ask Mom – ” Have you heard from Roger “?

She would tell me of their conversation

or show me a letter –

The last ten or so years of his life –

we once again became close –

I cherish both those early times and the end of times.

He was my hero
The Villages
Sumter Square

There was the time I got a Davy Crockett coon skin hat –

complete with the tail and wore to school !

The Old Eldred school
where my brother graduated from
and I went till the fourth grade

There was a bridge on South Main street –

a cement bridge with opening so you could see below

That day I placed my hat on top of the cement railing

and slid my head through the opening so I could see the water below

Now going through was a little tight but doable

Then my EARS popped out –

and I was stuck !

My arms weren’t long enough to reach through and hold my ears back!

They had to call the fire department !

I’ve reached that age
big ears and all

Well –

that made him embarrassed

Everyone thought it funny

and later – we would laugh and laugh about it !

Papas World – Day # 28 Sheltering in place.

A normal routine?

Yesterday was Thursday – Maundy Thursday.

Which in a normal time – we would of gone to the 7:30 pm. service

at our church – Community Lutheran Church – Sterling Va.

We spent the day doing the small things around the house.

However – you tend to run out of small things!

Puzzle # 5 of six!

I have found myself more and more working on puzzles

Sherry is finishing up the taxes

and I made a call to the maintenance firm who we have a contract through

to set up the semi yearly tune up on the two HVAC systems we have.

On our walk in the warm weather

It is that time of year – and we have it done in the Fall & Spring!

I was able to schedule it for two weeks out !

Hoping by that time – things will loosen up a bit!

However – I did question them on the procedure

and was satisfied that we would be safe with doing this!

Sherry has been sewing Masks and we had to deliver to a friend

I left them on their steps and we had delivered several

to the Church Mail Box in Sterling.

Our Youth director had put out a message

Her grand parents really needed them!

So – Sherry made them and we also dropped them off!

Back in Normal times
Sherry walking with Taylor
to the entrance to our church

By 7:30 PM. we were sitting at the table

Two Candles – a small bottle of wine

Two glasses & the computer tuned into the live stream on face book

A printed off bulletin of the service

and watching as members and friends from back home joined us.

Sherry had put out a invite on her web page

She had also done this for Palm Sunday service.

And – a lot of people joined in!

Sherry & Tom
MorMor & Papa

The Maundy Thursday service ends up with the stripping of the altar

And we have participated in this in the past.

It is something you remember – at least for me.

And for us emotional as well.

What has become abnormal in these days

had a piece of normal inserted back into our lives

as it has been for over 2000 years!

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papa’s World – Day #27 Sheltering in place.

Walking a nature trail
all by ourselves!

Yesterday – we dicided to ride our bikes and then walk

a new Nature trail we discovered the other day.

Trail marker

We had found this by accident – a tunnel had been installed

In the new over 55 community being built one half mile away!

We were riding our bikes on the paved path

and just happened to glance over the bank and saw the entrance!

Rocks placed on the trail to cross the wet waterway!

We followed the path and went trough the tunnel and found

THREE nature trails varying in length

three miles being the longest!

Trail markers with picture
representing which trail
you are walking!

So , we parked the bikes and locked them up

and started walking through marsh lands and forests and watershed.

The markers were well displayed

It was well done with gravel – small crushed pavement

and mowed so we did not get our feet wet.

Markers along the trail

It was quiet and NO ONE was to be seen!

Sherry by the small Broad run creek!

This is called the Broad run water shed and eventually

ends up in the Potomac River!

A beautiful sometimes open walk

We walked in the forest and in fields!

Broad run creek

Walking – we received alerts on our phones

a rain storm was approaching

and we were about 2/3 the way through!

Along the way!

In addition to the makers and historical facts on signs

These what I think are entrances to storm drains

and they were hand painted – very cool!

Another storm drain!

The walk was through forests and marsh lands that had many

planted trees that had been protected with plastic tubes.

Walking the trail

We saw many signs of animal prints and tracks

Deer – fox and maybe dogs I think!

The trees planted
and protected by plastic
tubes!

The marsh was impressive as I had no idea it was there!

At the beginning of the 3 mile walk.

Needless to say – just as we finished it started to sprinkle.

We still had to bike almost two miles

in the rain.

On the way back – we got soaked

and Sherry had a accident and hit a curb with her knee

when she went down.

It ended up very painful – but we iced it

and today she is moving well.

We were afraid she had maybe cracked the knee cap.

Social distancing
while riding our bikes

She has been on our supplement of Juice Plus for 14 years

and building her immune system with nutrients

from Fruits – Vegetables and Berries

directly into her blood stream

Providing the recovery of physical things such as

her running the 10 mile cherry blossom race.

Her recovery from something like this that is not a break

is exceptional and myself also.

Papa’s World – Positive thinking – frame of mind!

Turning a negative into a positive

This has never happened to me – but – getting older – it might !

The FISH – well – all my grand daughter talks about is –

HAVING A BUNNY RABBIT !!!! LOL

Turn the negative into a positive –

Not so sure what the parents will think !

Remaining positive does take some work –

Looking past the negative to see the message –

and make it the best you can.

Words have hidden meanings –

One such word we had a long time ago where I worked –

” TEAM “

” Together – Employees – And – Management “

Positive thoughts –

Working to improve the situation –

Understanding –

Creating the process in your mind –

Leading others to think positive –

creates balance in your life –

Now – there is a limit for me –

Papa’s World – birthday party – SURPRISE ! Va. Beach !

A surprise birthday party for our good friend DOTTIE !

GOOD MORNING

We have been friends with DOTTIE for 37 years !

Along with Dottie –

Sherry is also friends with Cindy !

Almost the same number of years !

Dottie Cindy Sherry

This picture was taken just before we went on a wine tasting tour –

Now – I do not have the picture of the “RESULTS “

Of that said wine tasting –

But all three ended

up in the back row seat of the SUV !

LOL

Cindy – Dottie – Sherry

So – they decided to recreate that picture at the birthday party –

which was held on the beach at Sandbridge – Va.Beach .

Of course they did not drink as much wine –

Too many family and friends around –

But – they still managed a great time.

The three amigo’s
Tom – Jim – Buck

And of course we also got into the act –

A few years later

There were over 75 people from five different states !

And it was a complete surprise –

All put together by her daughter Katie

and Dottie’s husband Jim –

Katie devoted days and days to this !

A house on the beach – all those people –

Places to stay –

Food – wine – beer – water – games – she did it all !

SURPRISE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOTTIE – family – friends – co workers –

On the beach at Sandbridge
Va. Beach

Just another day in our life with friends –

Buck and Cindy had dropped in at our house for a couple days –

and then we drove down for the party.

Papas World – Day #26 of shelter in place.

Here we are – social distancing – sheltering in place –

searching google places we can buy food – SENIORS ONLY!

Our new way to ride our bikes
and to take our daily walks
on the 18 miles of trails we have
social distancing
giving wide berths
and crossing streets to avoid
people when possible

What has become a new norm – all in less than a months time!

Our motto has become this.

We have become puzzle experts –

Netflix bingeing on series!

Our way of still practicing
Palm Sunday

Church now is live streamed

and we attend that way.

Our Tower Garden in the garage with grow lights

We will begin to harvest this coming weekend

The other two outside with all the vines and bigger vegetables

are coming along nicely.

Putting puzzles together

My number one rule in puzzles

MUST BE RAVENBURGER puzzles

and 500 or less pieces!

Our table can not handle anymore than that!

Just a short blog on STAYING IN PLACE SHELTERING!

Welcome to Papa’s World –

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Papas World – Day#22 – coronavirus self sheltering

Today I read in the paper – Mega Church considering holding service

in Tampa Florida!

After the pastor had been arrested and the Goveernor issued

stay at home!

And I wonder why he had the TWO SERVICES he did?

This past week – we finally after two weeks had to go to the store

for PRODUCE!!!!

We had diminished our stock and it will not keep!

We eat a lot of produce and our growing season outside

with the Tower Gardens begins this week

But you never know about freezes.

So – last week we started our Tower Garden inside the garage

where we had it until we went away for the month of February!

The new Tower Garden in the garage with the grow lights.

One week of growth and we should have one more week

and we can start cutting off for salads!

This new unit – comes on a reduced base – 20 gallons to 13 gallons

of water – a float to tell you when to refill

and the grow lights with a built in timer!

We have it set for day time light and then dark at night

to let the plants rest!

There also is a timer for the pump –

and we have that set at 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off!

Mostly leafy vegetables inside
we have two set up outside
for our peppers- tomato’s and cucumbers
and large things such as celery –
eggplant- squash etc.

Going to the store is nerve wracking –

wanting to get in and out asap!

But – after the two weeks – we had to go.

Here – they have senior hour – 7 to 8 am.

You must show a ID – but maybe 30 people are in the whole store!

A lot better than the crowds and less stressful.

I hope all is well
stay safe and stress free
and also that this article helps
you know the alternative to shopping
and for more information

Papas World – social distancing – grand kids

Sherry sitting on chair from garage
Tammy – Bode – Cassidy and Taylor
on tarp at end of the driveway

Yesterday – Tammy had to bring the twins to the school

to pick up their Chrome Books at school

so they could continue their classes from home.

This is the closest we have been to them in 18 DAYS!

Throughout all of this MorMor – Sherry – each night

gets a phone call from Cassidy –

her soft little voice asking “WHAT ARE YOU DOING MORMOR”?

Or – ” I MISS YOU MORMOR AND PAPA”!

This breaks my heart –

and then when Bode chirps in – is so hard to tell which one is speaking.

Our home
where we are sheltering in place
and social distancing

The kids – little ones – before this happened –

would spend a lot of time with us here

in our home.

Taylor once told us

“You can’t sell this house MorMor – I have too many memories here”!

And this coming from a nine year old.

Upstairs off that deck is a laundry room.

And on the backside of that door –

is a growth chart we have kept since they could stand up

all three of them.

Sherry told me if we ever decide to move

THAT DOOR IS COMING WITH US! LOL

Tammy and the three youngest grand kids
They wanted to take home the pool so I got it down
and we gave them the tarp to put under it

We would set the pool up in the patio when it got hot enough

It is not a big one – perhaps a foot and half deep

but enough to let them play and cool off

in the shade of the patio.

Social Distancing is hard on them and us.

They seemed not to really know just what to do

Usually they are right next to us – and especially Bode.

The last time they were here

Bode behind her

Papa’s World – Loudoun United coming !!!!

We have been following soccer for I guess 14 years –

Maddy was four when she started to play – then Ella !

Now – we will follow Maddy in college –

and continue to follow Ella in travel and H.S. soccer –

But – on 8 -9-19 – something new is about to happen !

And since I write this a week ahead of time –

last night –

it happened!

GOOD MORNING

We will have a professional soccer team about six miles away !

LOUDOUN UNITED SOCCER TEAM –

A farm team of D.C. United in Washington D.C.

Where players are developed – much as minor league baseball !

Site of new soccer field

Almost across from the Leesburg airport –

and part a huge soccer complex already there –

( where our grand daughter Maddy practiced for three years )

sits a complex of 12 to 16 soccer fields

And is part of Loudoun County !

Site work

It also contains a complex of base ball diamonds –

and both grass and turf fields.

Major tournaments both in baseball – softball

and soccer are played here

and is a hot bed for recruitment for soccer for college.

Beginning to take shape

A new four lane road with a traffic signal was built –

along with additional parking for over 700 cars –

along with lots already there for 700 cars.

More parking is in the plans !

In addition to the new stadium –

four more fields are being built

as part of the deal for the land with the county –

and two turf fields also will be built –

along with a state of the art training facility.

One of the turf fields will be for the pro team only

while the other fields will be for the County park.

Work progressing

We have known about this for some time –

as it has been in the news –

and Washington D.C. United –

just opened their new stadium –

which sits about a quarter mile from Nat’s Park

In the last two months !

So – big time Soccer is now here !

BLEACHERS

Being so close – instead of going into D.C. to Audi Field

we can jump in the car and be in the lot in 15 minutes –

of course traffic may become a problem and it will take longer

but still – to have this is just awesome !

Becoming a new fixture

Although Maddy will no longer be coming here for games and practice

There may be a chance that Ella’s travel team may play here.

Almost done

Our hope is to attend games –

and see some future players play in the big time.

Field is ready

This is a beautiful area –

and as the plan moves forward with the additional complex

It is a gold star for the County !

August 9 th. Professional Soccer came to Loudoun County !

Papa’s World – During the Summer – FOOD TRUCK’S

GOOD MORNING

Every other Thursday – during the Summer months –

Across from the Town Center – by the Legacy Park –

FOOD TRUCKS gather – 7 to 10 of them !

From 5:30 to 8:30 PM.

FOOD TRUCK THURSDAY
LEGACY PARK
BRAMBLETON TOWN CENTER

We have gone the last two times and have tried three different food trucks !

The cost is a little less than if you went to a restaurant –

And the meals are really good !

I had the Angus Organic beef burger
from this green and yellow food truck

I had the organic – grass feed Angus beef burger –

I would say it was almost a 1/2 pound bugger –

and almost no grease dripping !

Sherry had from another truck –

Pulled BBQ Pork – beans – mac and cheese and coleslaw-

Altogether on one plate –

And if you have ever been to Rochester N.Y.

Up there it is called a ” GARBAGE PLATE “

and for years and years the college students have raved over it !

Finding a bench in the park
Most tables and benches
in the park were already occupied
Early gathering of people

We did find a bench – a lot of people did the same thing we did!

We just sat down – no drinks – just our food – and watched the children play.

The food truck with grass fed – organic beef

I have to say – every other Thursday – we most likely will attend –

And – on opposite Thursdays – is live – open air –

stage entertainment – concerts !

This is all part of what they call the SUMMER SERIES festival.

You bring your lawn chair – they have some food trucks –

It is all blocked off and you get a ID wrist band –

only if you are purchasing a beer from the beer truck-

you can bring your own picnic

And from 7:00 to 9 PM. live music !

They erect a large stage

and each time – different music – for all ages.

Leaving the food trucks
and walking back to the car

This is just a part of our lives in Brambleton Va.

Listed as one of the top 25 community’s in the USA.

Walking back to the town center

The town center with other shopping – entertainment –

Movies – restaurants – banking – bars – groceries –

dry cleaning – parking garages – health center – etc.

Papas World – Social distancing – surviving.

Good day
social distancing
walking cleaning
getting lawn in shape!

As I write this blog – it is now day # 18 of Coronavirus

Social Distancing for us.

We are okay so far – and have been walking –

We have 18 miles of trails and staying at least six feet

from other people.

Sherry heading into
one of our walking trails

We have managed to walk almost every day and are getting

over 10,000 steps each day!

The paths range from neighborhoods to country

ponds – forests and parks.

All our playgrounds have been shut down for a couple weeks.

Over 55 community
in the distance
still being built out
most likely a couple more years
of building

We can still shop for food – but must drive –

however they are starting to service seniors

by opening early – 7am. for seniors only!

You must present ID’S to get in which makes it nice

for us OLD FOLKS!

Crossing over a bridge
you can go either way around the pond
or branch off on another trail
for a 3 or 4 mile walk.

We had to take the car to Costco –

Had a screw in the tire and losing air –

They were great and we walked a mile outside

while waiting!

It has been a long 18 days without seeing our grand kids

although we have been able to “ZOOM” our families!

Papa’s World – Walking the Billy Goat Trail – Great Falls

On Sunday after church service and adult education –

Sherry said

” Lets do something ” !

She had told me to wear my walking sneakers –

She said we can go to one of three places –

Georgetown – some where in D.C.

or Great Falls !

Sherry & Tom at Great Falls

Now – 18 or 19 years ago –

we went there – and have not been back since –

So – I said – how far do I have to drive

and she looked it up –

six miles – DONE –

I do not want to drive into Georgetown or DC !

Great Falls

I had forgotten just how beautiful this place is !

A man in a Kayak trying to go up the rapids

You actually can pay and go down the river in huge rubber tubes –

There were people getting ready to do this but we missed them.

The Billy Goat trail

Somehow as we were climbing up and over and trough the rocks

on The Billy Goat Trail –

They had put in and gone on their way !

We did however see one lone Kayak trying to go up the rapids !

There were several places along the trail

That people were going to rope down !

Flood stages over the years

It is really hard to believe that where she is standing –

FLOOD WATERS !

A lot of these dates correspond to major storms and ice and snow melt !

Mather’s Gorge

The Billy Goat Trail is full of rocks and boulders such as you see here.

I found myself gingerly placing my feet down in order not to slip.

It was dry and very hot out – 95 degrees –

I do not think I would walk this after a good rain.

Being it would be extremely slippery !

Below is where they put the tubes in

Most of this trail stayed away from the gorge edge –

but had little side trails that you could walk out to see over –

often times you actually could stand on rocks – NOT ME !

One of three overlooks

There were Three major over looks that had walls waist high –

Those I did – and were quite safe !

There were volunteers constantly walking the trail and overlooks –

making sure everyone obeyed the park rules !

I was surprised that they actually let people repel over the sides

and climb back up again !

I do not know if you have to have a permit to do that ?

I did read where you had to check in and register !

Old growth trees along side the canal

In 1784 – a series of five canals were constructed

and are still there

The main path follows along right where the footpath was

George Washington presided over the effort to construct the canal

and after completion in 1802 –

it operated for 26 years .

Old growth trees along side the old canal

It would take three days to travel the old canal from Cumberland Md.

To Georgetown – a distance of 190 miles –

the boats were flat –

pointed at both ends –

75 feet long and 5 feet wide !

After arriving at Georgetown

most of the boats were

sold for lumber

and the boatmen would then walk back home !

This area was a major trade center between the Indians and the colony.

View of the river

I was also surprised to see all the area to have picnics !

There were many tables and grills –

A host of families – and wide open spaces – shaded by the old trees !

A very nice visitors center and bathrooms –

along with a concession stand where you could buy Hot dogs

Pizza – other food and ice cream bars etc.

A deer eating 20 feet from us

I hope you liked our little side trip to GREAT FALLS PARK

On the Virginia side !

Tom ( PAPA ) JIM & Buck

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD

where friends – family and adventures come to life

Papa’s World – a bright day in another GRAY DAY !

GOOD MORNING

I write this post in a reflection of a past experience I had with my neighbor !

THE INTERSECTION
and his house

It was 2014 or 2015 –

Summer – I was sitting on our front porch –

Which I do all the time – listening to Sports Talk on my radio.

A car came from my right into this intersection –

At first I thought he was just doing a U turn swinging to the right –

and back to the left!

I was sitting to the left by the door

Then he came to a stop and rolled his window down –

STRANGE !

His car door and window was facing the house on the corner !

I thought he was looking at the rain gauge on my neighbors house !

Then – he lifted a camera out the window and took pictures !

This all happened within seconds !

And caught me completely by surprise !

WHAT IS GOING ON ?

Then he completed his turn and sped off !

I had no idea what just happened –

But I sure as hell was going to tell my neighbor when he got home !

You see –

my neighbor worked for the GOVERNMENT –

Actually – as I had learned before –

” THE FBI ” !

In this cyber World

When he got home and came back outside-

I walked over –

greeted him and shook his hand –

We had become a couple guys who stood by the street and talked.

Sports – lawn care – his wife was good friends with Sherry.

I told him what I had seen !

His first response –

” DID YOU GET THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER ” ?

At that moment – this would of been genius

You know – I did not even think of that –

it all happened so fast !

That is when he did two things –

One – he gave me his business card –

His name ——– and his credentials

DIRECTOR OF WORLDWIDE COUNTER TERRORISM – THE FBI !

( To this day I still have this card )

And then he told me another two things –

He had been testifying before either the Senate or Congress

Belief in our Country
and the FBI

About the Chinese hacking our security systems

( CYBER SECURITY )

and two weeks prior –

His wife had noticed a black SUV parked across the street –

She had taken down the license plant number

and called his private number

( He told me to call that number )

He ran the plate numbers –

and they came back as they did not exist !

The book I just finished reading
CYBER SECURITY and the capture of Robert Hanssen

Which is why I am writing this blog in light of last weeks testimony

On the Mueller report.

This book tells the true story of just how the FBI captured

the longest running

” MOLE”

in FBI or this entire Country’s history !

And it all took place right around where we live –

They captured him in 2001

after his 22 YEARS of giving away our secrets !

( he did damage to this day that still affects our Country )

TRUE STORY THAT CONFIRMS THE MUELLER REPORT

One of my wife’s friends was this guy Hanssen’s neighbor

and actually spoke to him as he was walking his dog

the day they caught him !

If you read this book – read it to the end

The information is all there for you to make a decision

on what to believe or not believe in the Mueller report

and what is FAKE NEWS vs. REAL NEWS !

The view of my house from my neighbor’s house

My neighbor has since retired

( before the firing of the Director )

and moved away –

My wife is still in contact and last year

They inquired if we were going to be home as they would be in the area.

Unfortunately we were away.

YOU DECIDE WHAT IS FAKE OR REAL !

Papa’s World – our patio – a quiet place to think !

The patio – is about 400 S.F. – very quiet and private –

almost too much for me – I prefer the front porch !

Good morning

Now Sherry loves this area – for that reason –

but I like to people watch – car watch – see what is happening !

Looking outside from inside

There is this tree – bush that we have had for years and years !

It is a Crepe Myrtle –

and has two colors – pink and purple !

It stays in that pot – even through the Winter !

The only things we do is water and nutrient it !!!!!

CREPE MYRTLE

It is too heave for me to pick up anymore –

so I just slide it to where ever she wants it !

Sitting and flowers

Most times – I head for the front porch until the Sun drives me out !

Sherry likes this area

and will set up her computer and work from out there.

Sherry’s spot

This in the Spring – Summer and Fall is her office on nice days.

And when we have guests – or dinner- we will be out here.

Sometimes it gets too hot

Now there are times during the heat wave –

I will wash the slate down to cool it off –

as it will burn the bottom of you bare feet !

I had just washed it all down

Sherry picked out and planted all the flowers

I plant outside in the beds and we both do the big pots outside.

The patio is in a U shape and is protected on three sides by the house

with the fence and gate covering the rest of it !

Our little peaceful quiet refuge

This is but just another facet of our daily living-

Papa’s World – over 55 community – reality

It started a little over a year ago –

there has long been rumors –

There would be a over 55 community built along the lake !

GOOD MORNING

The site work has been ongoing for the last 16 to 24 months –

Then – about a year ago – building started !

Walking through the woods

One of the trails we walk – was extended –

and now it took us directly to the new community

about one mile from our home.

Nearing the lake

We could watch from the trail the construction starting –

but we could not walk around the lake as our trail ended.

Then – they opened it up – with gravel – then black top !

Close to seeing the lake

The beginning of the lake –

The town houses already built

As we progressed along the path –

the new huge clubhouse comes into view

The club house

The club house has both a indoor and out door pools –

along with two pickle ball courts !

There are conference rooms – activity center –

and covered veranda’s

Fishing dock and indoor pool area

There are already several different houses built

There are single family homes –

Town houses – Condo’s and four story townhouses!

Viewing from chairs placed around the lake

Construction is everywhere –

and now we can walk around the entire lake

Adding miles to our already existing 15 miles of trails.

View before the dam

The new name is BIRCHWOOD – over 55 community –

Brambleton Va.

They will have their own HOA

Hoping you enjoyed our new walk –

PAPA’S WORLD

Papas World – Cabin Fever- Walking the path!

The start of our self imposed
SOCIAL DISTANCING!

To let you know – I write and schedule these blogs ahead of time!

So – today we are now into our fourth day of SOCIAL DISTANCING!

And – we are doing okay – it has it effect more so on Sherry

than on me!

One of the ways to walk
on the paths that we have
close to us
over 15 miles of different
paths that we have!

Sherry is the one who moves the most

the one who inspires me to move!

So – we decided that we could and would walk

and still keep our distance from other people!

The paths are wide –

enough so that you can pass and stay at least

eight feet away or more!

Once we leave the street
we begin our walk through
the trees – bush and grass areas!

This path was almost three miles long

and had we not taken a short cut –

it would of been over three miles!

When leaves are out
this becomes very shaded
and cooler in the hot summer!

Our walk takes us through many wooden areas

and toward the very large pond!

At this point we can choose
to walk the left side of the pond
or cross this bridge
and walk the right side
of the pond!

Both left or right go completely around the pond

and there are birds – turtles and fish to be seen.

In the distance was the only person
we saw that was walking
the same direction as us!

Here you can see a row of houses to the right –

and we are headed toward the new

over 55 community

that is still being built!

In the far left distance
is a section of over 55 community
The community gets closer
this is but a small part
and I would say they are a good
two or more years
before they are built out!
To the right are the townhouses
four stories with elevators!
And directly ahead
the huge community center!
The over 55 community center
with both indoor and outdoor pools!
Looking back from the direction
from the way we had come
and the housing on the left side of the pond path!
These are all new
saw several of these owls
I suppose to keep the geese at bay!

The pond is up – although we have not had hard rains

but slow gentle ones!

I noticed these owls which before December

were not here!

Past the new what I call Brownstones!

We decided instead of continuing on the pond path

To walk the sidewalk past the over 55 Brownstones!

Notice no traffic
on the highway!
This is a four lane road
with 40 MPH or faster
and always full of traffic
so much that we sometimes wait five minutes
to see traffic decrease
so we can cross!

I hope this shows just how a walk

can break that time spent inside during this time!

One more block and turn right

Papa’s World – When friends golf – win or lose – a great day

Last weekend – our friends stopped in on their way home from WNY –

We planned this out –

We made twilight tee times – for Friday at 3:00 PM.

The challenge was once again on –

GALS VS. GUYS – NO STROKES GIVEN – they are too good !

GOOD MORNING

Now – we have done this many times before –

and it almost every time is a close match –

And it was also close this time –

Cindy and Sherry

Our friends – Cindy and William ( Buck ) McBride –

we have traveled the World together since we were neighbors

32 and 1/2 years ago.

In five weeks – we leave and fly to Northern California

Where we will meet up and tour for ten days !

Alogonkin Park Golf Course

The course is about twenty minutes from our home.

And there are Deer on every hole !

Buck teeing off

It was very hot out – 94 degrees – but by the second nine –

A breeze and shade –

Cindy teeing off

As I said no strokes are given – they do not need them –

if you do – they will kill you –

As it was – we beat them by ONE STROKE !

SHERRY

The second nine – we won by two strokes !

Tom

BUT – the difference was two reasons –

We ONE putted SEVEN greens –

and they THREE putted FOUR greens !

That is why we give them NO STROKES !

If we gave them strokes

All in all we had a grand time –

Cindy and friend
A lot of wild life
Cindy

Looking forward to our trip in August –

We beat them – but had we not putted –

it would of been different –

But that usually is the way it goes.

THANK YOU FOR READING PAPA’S WORLD !!!!!

Papa’s World – going on another road trip – friends

One of our adventures- Sherry Fitzsimmons – Cindy North McBride – William McBride and Tom Fitzsimmons on the inter coastal water way off North Carolina.

For the last 12 years – we have taken trips together – every other year in most cases.

We have been to Spain – Gibraltar – Morocco – we have toured N.H. – Mass. and Maine. We have been to the Niagara Falls , Ontario Canada wine region – tasting wine and brews !

We have revisited our roots back in NWPA and SWNY – playing a week of golf on the courses we played years and years ago. You see – we were neighbors and friends 37 years ago ! Then they moved South to N.C. and later we transferred South to NVA – all the while staying in close contact – visiting on vacations.

On Turtle Bay Oahu

We have visited Oahu together- covering the whole island in 10 days.

Playing golf in the mountains close to where they filmed Jurassic Park. We have stayed at their house in N.C. and played the courses around them.

Buck ( William ) and Tom riding the inter
coastal water way.

We are planing and talking future trips – ( IRELAND ) back to our ancestors. Maybe a trip to Nashville – and my thoughts on Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tenn. with a log cabin in the mountains !

Buck and Cindy in Oahu .

Now – we have committed to a trip out West – the far West as in Northern California – a drive and stay trip for 7 or 8 days ! Making our list pf places to see and when we get together – piecing all the information down – getting excited !

On the beach in North Shore Oahu.

We have now been retired for 7 years ( Sherry ) 6 years me. Sherry had a sales job ( outside ) – all of NVA – for the company she worked for for 32 years. The traffic and day to day stress was more than enough – so she started a part time job through The Juice Plus Company. When it grew – she decided at which point it was large enough to retire. At age 63 – she did it !

Today – we are able to both be retired – and will be celebrating – in the next two months – our birthdays – the big 70 !!!!

Back in NWPA- Sherry’s home – the Knizua via duct – bridge.

Red woods – Napa valley – Reno – Lake Tahoe – Sequoia’s – San Francisco – Alcatraz – Yosemite – Sonoma – Berkley – Glamping –

Just some of the things on our list – we shall see and compare. Close friends through all these years – still trying to get our other close friends to take a trip with us.

At Vanish Brewery near our home in NVA – October fest !

Where ever we go – when ever we go – there are laughs – there are adventures and sometimes golf ( we give no strokes as they are too good )

Sherry and Cindy – always something with their phones!

These two will always laugh and make us laugh – that is why we get along so well. Later this Summer – another road trip – to Northern California. A trip worth waiting for – another adventure in the making.

Stay tuned – waiting – excited – and NO STROKES – they should give us strokes! LOL

Papas World – getting ready – Spring is here – Tower Gardens

Good morning!
We returned from Florida
the weather was great
saw my first robin
and decided to put
our Tower Gardens together
and start our seedlings!

I unpacked and uncovered the two Tower Gardens

that last November I cleaned up and put into storage!

One was taken apart and covered up and stored in the patio.

The other taken apart and put on shelves in the garage.

The Tower garden in the patio.
After I cleaned up the patio
from the mild winter we had.

This year I said to Sherry –

lets spit them up – one in the enclosed patio

and the other one on the back patio!

They got so big – that it was difficult working

all around them to pick cucumbers and tomato’s!

This one will be all different lettuces – herbs – chard

some bee flowers – mostly leafy plants!

This is the one on the back patio

This one will be cucumbers – tomato’s – peppers –

celery – radish – plus others –

I needed space for the vines to spread out.

We also are going to plant potato’s in large pots

like you see in the background.

I did this for the first time last year

and had 30 or 40 potato’s – small ones but tasty!

Our indoor Tower Garden
which we have done for the last five years!

Our indoor Tower Garden – at the end of January –

just before we left for our month in Florida –

We cleaned up and removed all plants!

It served us from end of October to end of January.

Had we not left – it still would of been producing!

This one has a built in timer and grow lights at the top.

Since it is in the garage and space is limited

No cucumbers or tomato’s!

We eat greens everyday !

Here are our growing pods
and all the seeds we are planting
we also plant what we call BEE FLOWERS

We have started our seedlings – which will take three or four weeks

under grow lights from the Tower Garden in the garage,

We have started various plantings –

38 plants total to start.

We have room for 56 plants!

But – even selecting everyday from these Towers

We can not eat it all!

We give some to family and some to neighbors!

Our neighbor next door has one – and she can not eat it all!

One – if planted properly –

can feed a family produce so that they buy very little from the store!

If any at all!

Papas World – when little ones come to sleep over!

It had been perhaps two months or longer!

They asked to sleep over as soon as we returned home from Florida!

But first – a trip to Trader Joe’s!
Taylor – who is going to be very tall!
Cassidy – and Bode whom look like they should be twins!

The arrangements made – the bed of foam and blankets on the floor

in our bedroom – all three will not sleep elsewhere!

The older three – only Maddy – the oldest will sleep

in another bedroom!

The arrival bags
shoes – boots
and stuffed animals

They would spend the night – and next morning –

get them ready for early church and Sunday school!

Which meant on Saturday

A trip to Barnes and Noble

A stop at Trade Joe’s ( two small shopping carts)

And then back to the house for meals!

Eating snacks
playing minecroft

They were really good – no fighting!

Taylor and her purse
I think of all the grand daughters
she will end up the tallest.
Sherry is 5′ 9″
and she just may surpass that
she now is a Harry Potter big time fan
and riding horses!
Cassidy – who does tons and tons of crafts
all from instructions
on the IPAD!
And now is taking Tennis Lessons!
and is a good roller bladder
very caring and protective of Bode!
Bode – all boy
has just learned to ride his bike
all about trucks
big machinery
and building things
now has a putting puzzles together thing!

The three of them eat all the time!

No matter what time it is

and right after they have eaten!

Yet – they are not fat

but lean –

and so full of energy!

Bodes comfy place
on the couch

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

Today is feel good to be home day

Cassidy arranges her place
and she does this at night
where she sleeps!
everything has to be in order
as is how her room is!
She has a bag – just for all of this!

Papa’s World – growing – growing – growing – veggies!

For the past seven or eight years –

has it been that long ?

We have been tending our gardens –

for twelve months a year –

inside and outside !

We grow what we eat

Welcome to Papa’s World –

today –

what we grow

what we harvest

what we eat !

Our TOWER GARDENS

Somewhere in this jungle are TWO TOWER GARDENS !

And this is after Sherry pruned a lot off !

We are ankle deep in squash –

and tons of tomato’s –

We have eaten all our lettuce – since May 1st.

And we are replanting them – eight pods !

Celery

Yes – we even grow Celery and Beets !

Our growing season is a full twelve months –

because at the end of November –

We take these down – clean up –

soak them for two days in vinegar and water

And plant in our inside Tower Garden we have in the garage!

Thus – we eat twelve months of the year fresh –

no pesticide Produce !

Open pods for more lettuce

The main chore you have to do – is make sure water is in the base !

In the heat wave of Summer – I add water each day –

and only rarely do I add the Nutrients !

I have a RV filter on my water hose –

And now I do not even test the PH !

We have installed as a company – THOUSANDS of Tower Gardens –

across the United States –

In the schools –

With a developed curriculum –

( most schools have money for such projects )

In schools to teach children in a hands on gardening

to grow their own food !

My wife’s ( Sherry ) team –

called TEAM GENERATIONS

has been responsible

for the installation of over 100 Tower Gardens in our NVA area !

Early morning light

Our success in growing has been where we grow them –

catching the first morning rays of the Sun –

and there after another 4 to 6 hours.

Half way through May

As the Tower Gardens looked three weeks after planting –

As they look today – 7-22-19

Eating healthy – knowing what you eat – no pesticides –

growing with no weeds –

no dirt –

just water –

air and nutrients –

Teaching in the classroom with hands on growing food –

THE TOWER GARDEN – part of the JUICE PLUS FAMILY !

Papas World – exploring Saint Augustine – Florida

After stopping in South Saint Augustine

we decided to park just a block from the historic OLD TOWN!

The harbor at Saint Augustine
We parked and walked the seawall

We had been here maybe four years ago

but decided this time to just take a walk around

and end up at the old fort!

The air was warm – at least to us in the sun!

We walked the old streets and I thought just how commercial

this has all become.

It seemed like every other building was a ICE CREAM STORE!

And although the old buildings were still there

they were mostly shops and places to eat!

I was somewhat disappointed in that I wanted history –

and sadly – it just is not there like I expected!

However – with all these shops
they had provided a place for ME!!!!!

We still walked the old street and made our way to the OLD FORT!

Now that was still like it was all those years ago!

So we walked the sea wall
and straight ahead
is the Fort
with walls jutting out
to make a enclosed little harbor

The fort had walls that looked to me

were built so that a small rowboat

could disembark from a ship

row through a opening

and people could then step onto the steps

leading up to the area outside the fort walls.

We managed to be there at the right time!

As we stood beneath the wall

where the steps from the enclosed harbor were

we were just in time to witness the firing of the cannon!

It was loud and must of been a couple hundred people watching!

I still am amazed that this was built
all those years ago
when this country was so young!

The town itself is impressive when you consider

that there was no place to BUY materials to build it!

They had to shape all these huge boulders

and life them into place!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

The streets of OLD TOWN
Saint Augustine
almost all commercial now!

Papas World – roads less traveled – coastal highway

We continued our trip North –

on the Coastal highway 1A1 –

toward Saint Augustine Florida!

On the entrance to the beach
just South of the old historical
Saint Augustine!

We stopped at a red light and Sherry said

“Lets turn right here & see if we can see the ocean”!

Well – it happened to be the access road to the beach

and this bar sat right there on the left hand side!

The Beachcomber Bar
and eatery
had fantastic fresh caught RED SHRIMP!
Very large steamed and peel!
Along with a honey IPA!

We had no idea but it was time to stop

for a bite to eat!

Come to find out – both Debby and Tammy had been here.

Along with some friends of ours

and other friends said they also were going to stop!

It also happened to be the entrance to the beach
and where you pay to drive on the beach
there was a very small parking lot
mostly for the Beachcomber
and a guy sat on a camp chair
directing people into and out of the lot

The shrimp were extra large

steamed and peel – with melted butter and hot sauce dip!

The beach street is called
“A ST”
And all the rules and directions to follow

While we sat outside – a lot of cars- trucks etc.

came and went in and out!

We actually ordered a half pound

and it was so good we ordered seconds!

Looking back from the beach
to the entrance and the Beachcomber

It was a relaxing time -sitting in the Sun –

eating shrimp – sipping some beer

and knowing our journey to Jacksonville Beach

would continue – but first we were going to stop

and tour OLD HISTORICAL SAINT AUGUSTINE!
