We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!
Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.
Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.
It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.
It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –
lots of sunshine and very good friends!
Game on – girls vs boys!
They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!
We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!
We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!
Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!
Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.

We had no idea we would end up in North Myrtle Neach.
My friend would ask me WHY we choose there?
Well – the best answer I can give is I came across this condo –
on a site that listed houses and condos for sale!
I expanded the search area and this picture or one like it – came into view!
I showed it to Sherry and we decided right there and then we would rent it!
First – for three months – then we extended it to five months –
all because we looked and looked and decided it was just as good to build –
as it was to buy! We could have what we wanted and not upgrade someone’s home!
So – we made our choice in Cameron Woods – across the border into N.C.
It would be a brand new build and we set about making our selections –
and at that time we extended our lease until the end of June!
Which would be a total of nine months!
We tried very hard to stay in this area – but cost and being too close to the Ocean
played a big part in where we ended up!
We can drive one half hour back here to North Myrtle Beach.
We are in a new development – and right in the middle of a dozen golf courses!
We are in the country but a mile and one half to a gas station and a couple miles to a Publix!
In November we signed our contract and made all our selections.
We are on schedule for a early June closing!

On our way back home to NVA – we stopped in Lynchburg to watch Maddy –
Our oldest granddaughter – play soccer!
She starts as a Sophomore – and plays for the University of Lynchburg.
One thing she wanted to do – to get out in the fresh air and hike with her family!
Which we did on this paved trail that runs along the river in Lynchburg Va.
One of our very first visitors after we moved to Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach –
was the father and mother of our son in law – Marcus.
They came down and spent four days with us – playing cards – walking the beach –
and introducing us to a new game called RUMMIKUBE!
We have always gotten along with them and every Sunday – sat beside them in the pew!
Debby and the two granddaughters came for a short visit –
and we took them hiking – which they love to do – at Vareens memorial Garden.
Walking along the ICW and over the marsh.
They will be back as we took them also to the new house build!
Mike and Carol – we lived next door to them – invited us and our friends – we have all been friends for years-
to their lake house in WNY -Lake Chatauqua – for a long weekend of riding the lake in their beautiful boat!
They have extended another invitation for this August – the same group – for four days!
They own a business that sends crews to do commercial painting all over the East Coast
and this year are expanding to the mid west.
Mike – started this when he was very young — and what a company he has turned it into!

Memories of the past 16 months continues in the next blog! Join – it is all free!
In this picture – my friends of the last 36 years for Buck and 40 plus hears for Jimmy!
Jimmy and I worked together and played softball together in the mid to late ’70’s!
In the back ground across the pond on this hole in Magnolia Greens –
sits Buck and Cindy’s new home they built a couple years ago!
I really like this area and would of moved here if we could of found something
like this and in our price range.
Friends and golfing buddies – MEMORIES!
Dottie – Jimmy’s wife and Cindy – Bucks wife – all these years still getting together!
We all moved away from our home town areas.
Yet – at least twice a year we manage to get together –
here we are at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach!
Speak no evil – see on evil and hear no evil!
In the last 16 months – sometimes we struggled to balance social distancing –
and that was very true with family.
Sitting in our garage while the three little ones sat on a tarp in the lawn at the end of the driveway.
Or visiting them standing outside and little Bode hiding behind his parents peaking out at us!
That broke my heart.
But – we have come a long ways on this – we did stay with family after we sold our house
at the end of June last year!
Family is important and we have been tested twice and so have they!
PAPA – can I sit on your lap!
This is at 5:45 am. – while I am writing my blog!
He knows I wake up early and down he comes- when we are not here – he sleeps in!
Last week he asked me on a kids message –
he had called me – “PAPA – WHEN WILL WE SEE YOU AGAIN”?
I tear up when he talks to me like that!
Here we are having lunch after they drove 6 hours – at Crooked Hammock at Barefoot Landing!
They spent all weekend and until Friday of the following week with us!
This made us very happy as they got to see where we are and where we are building our house.
They now know it is but a six hour drive for them to visit!

I knew both before I met Sherry – Freddie and I went to 7th. grade thru 12th. grade.
We met at a place that was half way to where they live in Florida and to where we were staying!
Great time with old friends. MEMORIES!
We traveled before the Pandemic – meeting friends along the way.
And – – we were careful – as were some more friends we met.
Bobby and I go back to grade school – friends for life.
Sports – a few drinks – camping out – running the streets – never anything destructive – just boy hood memories.
By the time this blog posts – Pam and Bob will stop in on there way back to New England.
They have a drive RV towing a car.
We are all safe – testing and vaccinations.( except Sherry who is allergic to the vaccine)
It will be good to once again relive memories – Freddie – Bobbie and I had growing up!
Fourteen years we attended services there.
John and Nancy moved to Charleston about a year before we moved.
On our way back from Florida – just before the Pandemic – we stopped in and stayed – regaling in memories.
They gave us a walking tour of Charleston’s waterfront and historic district.
A few months after we moved to Myrtle Beach area – we met halfway in Georgetown S.C.
And – about a month or so ago – they visited us at the condo.
Friends – MEMORIES!

We were on our way back to the air BNB – looking for a place to stop and eat and we found this little gem.
I can not remember the name but it had the flag of the British hanging outside.
It – was very cool and the food was good.
After we returned home in March – the Pandemic hit.
A few months later – we met our friends in the open air seated more than six feet apart.
Ordered lunch from one of the places to eat for pick up.
And in the middle of the common area ice skating rink – enjoyed ourselves.
Old friends – who live in Az. visited us for a week and we showed them NVA and Washington DC.
When we had gone out there for a conference – after it was over – they picked us up and we went to Sedona.
We also went back to their home and they showed us around Tucson.
It was a great week filled with a lot of historical sites!
I will continue the MEMORIES in the next blog of the past 16 months!

Eating healthy has become a way of life for us going on almost 16 years!
In that time I have learned how to BAKE rather than fry!
I have learned low carbs – no gluten – low sugars – and GMO’s.
My life is far different than all those years gone by.
I WATCH WHAT I EAT!
I have learned over these past 15 plus years.
I take it very seriously!
Living each day – I have to stay away from sugars as I am borderline diabetic.
I watch carbs more so that calories – carbs put the weight on me and turn to sugars.
We purchase from this company what we eat for health reasons.
Have been doing this for almost 16 years!
And – the taste – for me – is excellent.
Life is hard – food – not healthy food – is everywhere!
Commercial after commercial – radio or TV – is constant.
Billboards – advertisements – packaging!
Everywhere you look or hear is processed food.
And when not doing our taxes – she makes healthy treats!
Our lives changed almost 16 years ago – she became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH –
through the known children’s doctor – Dr. William Sears – author of 40 children’s books.
Health has become our lives.
Making healthy choices one day at a time.

TEAM GENERATIONS: Helping one child a day to eat healthy with fruits – veggies and berries.
I actually believe these 27 holes compare to the best in the area including Myrtle Beach!
On this day – the flowers were in full bloom and reminded me of Augusta!
We have played this course many times over the years!
They have called this home for at least twenty years.
Having bought and sold and built here many times.
This is the main reason we came South to this general area.
Our new home will be about 40 minutes away –
so daily golf is available!
This is the second home they have built here – both in this water area and both had like views –
only this one is downsized from the other one.
We – Buck and I – did our usual scramble – and we had a record for us – we shot a 39 with a double boogie the last hole!

HEALTH and NUTRITION fruits – vegetables – berries – omegas in a capsule.
Each one holds a special place in our hearts – the first where we were married –
the second where we found a home and friends.
And now the journey begins – another one near our new home.
Right now – this is our future choice – Saint Lukes Lutheran Church
in Ocean Isle Beach right on route 17.
We have to call to be put on the list each Sunday – because of covid restrictions.
But – we were welcomed and social distancing practiced.
Time will tell if we have found a new place to worship –
one that is but 4 plus miles from our new house being built,
Our first time inside the roof and walls of a place of worship in over 13 months.
We left the service and drove to the new house build –
The windows and doors are all installed – the roof is done and almost all the siding and outside trim is done.
Driving up – the beautiful stacked stone is all done!
I have always loved front porches – we had a large one as I was growing up –
I would spend hours on it watching the cars go by with my mother –
Talking to people as they walked by – everyone knew “MARY”
and would call out to her or honk their horns –
I am most like her in tat way!
Our thoughts on this – have shelves with towels as the outside water bib is just to the left of the corner.
That way – when coming back from the beach – a place to wash off the sand!
Second thoughts we have discussed – putting a enclosed white vinyl fence with a gate –
And a tank less water heater – for a place to shower – as a third shower for the house if we have lots of company!
I have seen them all over down here – really nice with a place to sit and a place to hang clothes and towels!
On our wish list along with taking the screens out of the enclosed covered patio and glass it in with sliding windows!
It has been a adventure these past six plus months.
Building a new home – and moving South!
But – the electric is done as is the plumbing – they are starting the insulation and then the dry wall.
We are excited – and ready to move in and begin out next phase of our new chapter.
Going to miss our view – but we will have pictures and memories!

We started off in the rain – but the forecast said it would move on out –
and the sun and warmth would be there!
AND THAT IS JUST WHAT IT DID!
One of the views – we had to cross over here – but it was not a busy road.
We played well – Buck and I – enough so that they beat us by one stroke the first nine and we won by three stokes the back nine. Do not be fooled by how close they made it – they are always right down the middle and second shot is either on the green or close to it! They are good when in a scramble!
We bought what is called the first tee card – we all have them and it allows us to play over 32 courses
at reduced rates – all are on the N.C. side of the border – and our new house is right in the middle!
I did not like this tee box as it was like a practice mat.
The only part of the whole course that they did this on.
You could not put a tee in – only if you found a seam.
It was a fun day – and because it was cart path only –
it took us five hours to play and we did not finish up until 6:00 PM.
But – we finally beat them on the back nine by three strokes and it was hard doing that!

But – this is the beginning of the week for Spring Breakers –
and we noticed traffic getting heavey.
We have found our way around and avoid the high traffic on rte. 17!
We take the side streets as far as we can – and one side street takes up to where we can shop!
Being here is still our dream – we will come back often as we like it here –
but also where we are moving too – no traffic – country quiet – we can walk –
and still be in access to the other two beaches!

We had stopped here over the weekend – as we have driven by it hundreds of times!
Two entrances and finally I just turned in and followed the road for about a mile.
What we found out later – was this is the longest course in S.C.
and maybe the longest I have EVER played!
The back tee box – if you play that – the course is over 8200 yards long!
There are many marsh areas such as this – did not see any snakes or gators!
We were teamed up with a father & son.
We introduced ourselves – we had not planned on playing with anyone.
But – after the first hole awkwardness
It turned into a fun day!
I had watched my wife and how she was hitting.
I noted that she was doing everything right except two things!
I told her to tee her ball up a little back in her stance –
and to always tee it up the same height.
She was coming over the top on her ball – still hitting it good but not as far as she has.
And – I might add – she beat me by FIVE STROKES on the front nine!
So much for me showing her what to do! LOL!
Just a word to our friends – Cindy and Buck – the ladies have to give us strokes from now on! LOL
They are just too darn good!

We knew Ocean Isle Beach was a eight minute drive from the new house- without heavy traffic.
Now – it was time to see just how far the other beach – Sunset Beach – was from the new house.
So – we drove and it was 13 minutes!
About five minutes longer in no traffic!
So – there you are – two beaches to choose from – and if we want – we can go back to NMB –
some 30 minutes away – with no traffic.
We checked out the parking as we understand that in the busy part – this could determine where we go!
They have pay parking – which you can pay a set price for the year –
and – like the other beach – off the road parking –
but we were told to be careful on that – if you do not do it right –
like blocking the bike path or sidewalk –
you will get a fine!
It was a very windy day on the sand – so we decided not to walk the beach –
but rather see where we can walk among the streets and houses.
We did find a path to walk – while not going on the sand –
and could see we could easily get our three mile walk in!

Here is the front – siding in entrance way is done – roof shingles done – back and side siding half done.
At the rear will be the covered – screened in lanai.
They have told us we still are looking at early June for closing!

We are in the condo until end of June – we have a storage unit 3 miles from the new build.
If needed – friends have offered us a place to stay.

We went in the dark – at 6:15 AM. and was surprised at all the cars and activity.
This was but one of several services up and down the beach.
ELCA – which we are a member of – along with the Episcopal church –
Came together to have this service.
I would guess by the start – some 4 to 5 hundred souls gathered on the beach-
many standing – others brought their own chairs
At last – in more than a year – we attended a live service.
All our married lives – we have attended church – me – I converted from Catholic to Lutheran
which was how Sherry was raised.
They were mostly silent – a few murmurs here and there – ushers directing people – passing out communion cups and wafers – a few announcements – still cold – but at least there was no wind. The sound of the surf – the seagulls – the stillness of the early morning hour – the sand cold – bundled up – ear muffs and scarf – waiting – waiting – waiting.

This time when they came – Daddy came also – not having had to work!
They so missed him last time when they came for a long weekend!
She is always by him – Cassidy is the free spirit – independent – spitfire with a heart of gold!
All three adore their father – all three can and are a hand full – Taylor the most laid back – Cassidy and Bode two peas in a pod – always on the move – Bode – all boy – and now learning to golf with his Daddy!
Riding horses is Taylor’s dream – she rides once a week – has for the last four years.
Sherry said this was the highlight for her being down here in S.C.

One of the things they wanted to do was see alligators!
And here in North Myrtle Beach is a place called ALLIGATOR ADVENTURE!
There are hundreds of the reptiles in there!
The biggest being 20 feet long and weighing 2000 lbs. !
They got to watch the feeding – I wonder how they feed all these alligators and how they make sure all get fed!
They have other animals – birds and snakes!

The Krohn family and Sherry – granddaughters – daughter and son in law.
They have visited for almost a week.
The weather – bearable – low 60’s to low 70’s but with chilly wind.
He has pretty good form and Marcus is getting him lessons.
He is only six years old and I think the highlight for him is driving the golf cart! LOL
I told Marcus – you need to get him lessons plus doing cross country
He almost ran the whole golf course!
They walked to the beach every day.
Most days I would drive the car down as we had all the chairs and beach stuff!
Some days – as in this picture – we all walked carrying the “STUFF”!
Yesterday was a full beach day – warm – sun – and kids in the water!
Too cold for me – but in the sun – hot!
Taylor – Cassidy and Bode – notice how Cassidy takes care of Bode!
Such a protective little girl – a heart of warmth!

One of the first things Sherry did for the little ones after they had a good nights sleep-
Was to color Easter Eggs!
So – she hard boiled the eggs – set up on the Lanai – and they got to it!
This has been a tradition with MorMor – as they call her -Swede for Mothers Mother!
She has done this even before Bode – who is six was born!
Afterward – things were washed up and packed for Tammy to take back to NVA!
I think Cassidy and Bode should of been the twins!
They are so much alike and act the same.
It is hard for me to tell the difference if I am not looking at them – to see who is talking!
Now – Bode is going to be tall like Taylor – who is so laid back!
She likes her “TAYLOR” time!
She also is going to be the tallest of the granddaughters
With Maddy being 5′ 6″ – Ella 5′ 8 1/2 ” and Sarah pushing Ella at 14 years old!
We had taken them there before and the little ones love the playground!
Then it was time for a late lunch – our reservations were ready!

They all came this time – for almost a week’s stay –
Tammy and the little ones had come down for a long weekend
Now – it was Marcus time to see where we would be living!
Here we are on the ICW at Barefoot Landing!
We had met them here instead of the condo – for we knew the little ones would be hungry –
they had left NVA at 5:09 AM. and we were standing in the Parking lot at a little before noon –
Less that seven hours!
And we told them – it would be 45 minutes fewer that that at the new house!
Our goal was to keep the time traveled to less than seven hours
and for both sets of family’s it will be that!
The above picture is for both family’s as they love the tradition at Christmas time!
We planned to have a late lunch and early dinner at the new brewery
CROOKED HAMMOCK BREWERY – that had opened up a couple weeks earlier
outdoors – and they -Marcus and Tammy loved the draft beer!
Family is and has been important to us – both daughters followed us to NVA.
One was married with a small child ( Maddy)
And one met her future husband in NVA.
Walking to the beach – these two will one day be so tall – here she is 10 years old and he is 6 years old.
Sherry – a Swede – is 5′ 9″ tall!

Ever since I had my Heart attack some 7 1/2 years ago –
I get chilled very easy – even before I did not like the snow – ice and cold!
But – the families seem to like it – skiing – snowboarding and playing in the snow!
Where we had wine – snacks and a fire in a fire pit.
The pit was free and offered by the winery!
I bundled up and made it through -but by the end I was cold!
I have to admit – it was unique – but I very seldom drink wine –
I just can not get into the dry wines!
Now – a sweeter wine I can sip on!
What a difference 3 weeks make!
From snow and cold to sand and somewhat warm!
I am not shoveling snow – I can layer up and walk the beach!
School break – and a quick trip down – Marcus could not get away.
The first thing they wanted to see – THE BEACH!
The little ones love the beach – sand and water.
And then we took them for a walk along the ICW at Barefoot Landing!
Watching the boats traveling up and down –
and seeing the boats in the marina – where a lot of people are living on the boats there!

We called her “TINY” as she was growing up –
Her father came up with that nickname –
Today she stands 5′ 8 1/2 ” –
Our little girl is all grown up!
She endured two injuries during her Middle school and H.S.
Both were broken bones in her feet.
One she was stepped on with a cleat
and the other she just landed wrong on it.
She lost two seasons of playing soccer
but when she did – was recruited by two different colleges.
Due to the Pandemic – her H.S. soccer season was moved from the fall to the spring.
She is about to begin playing –
Her travel soccer was played although the number of games reduced.
She competed and will move onto the next level in the Fall.

We decided for their last beach walk on a cold windy day –
to take them to the far end of Cherry Grove to a place the local’s call Cherry Point!
The path to the beach is overhanging tree limbs with lots of shrubs and bushes.
Once you walk through there – you are greeted to a wide expanse of beach to the left.
The right goes back toward the houses and pier.
It was cold and windy – and we wanted to walk way out as it seemed at low tide you might be able to walk to the other shore.
Here you can see a few brave souls – walking – and the wind was really blowing!
We walked maybe a half mile – and decided enough – it was just too cold and so windy!
I told Sherry – when it gets warmer and is low tide – we must come back and just see if we can walk across the bay!

We decided after our attempt to walk the beach –
which was very windy and cold –
to drive back down the Ocean Blvd to Snooky’s!
Sherry and I brought Tammy and the little ones here when they visited.
Sarah and Debby at the table surrounded by heaters!
It was chilly out on the open patio.
We choose this because of the heaters and wanting to be out in the open
for social distancing.
Every other table was empty!
This was the last full day they would be here!
The four days have gone by so quickly.
We packed a lot into it – Mike is a teacher and could not come down.
Maddy is in college with her classes and in the middle of Spring Soccer.
We sat out there on the patio – when I heard Sherry exclaim ‘ THERE HE IS” pointing toward the beach!
She had read a article in the newspaper and seen the interview on TV.
A man who was dressing up as DARTH VADER in Myrtle Beach and walking up and down the beach
entertaining the children – with his Laser –
And he happened to be right here!
Now Ella is a huge – huge Star Wars fan!
For her 16th. birthday as a present – we took her to Florida with us for a week.
And the highlight of that trip was her going to the STAR WARS park.
That was what she wanted to do forever!
So – they both got up – Sherry and Ella – and down the deck they went!
I went up on the top deck so I could get a clear picture of what was going on the beach!
She has Star Wars figurines from her youth – ever since she could walk and talk.
She has seen every movie – over and over again.
This was one of her highlights of the entire trip to visit us at the beach!
And it was all by chance – we wanted lunch – we selected Snooky’s because it was close
And we knew they had heaters outside!

We ventured out and drove to Barefoot Landing – to let Sarah shop!
That is what she wanted to do the most beside walking the beach.
But – we decided since it looked really busy on the inside and outside
We would pass on this trip and go to a place that was not really that busy!
This was my first time seeing one here.
There were signs for this and snakes –
And at first we did not think it real as it was very still until it moved!
Hoping when the little grand kids come – we can show them a “GATOR”!
I actually like Barefoot Landing over Broadway on the Beach
which is in Myrtle Beach Proper.
We did do some shopping – well they did – I walked in – took a look around and went back outside to find a place to sit!
Sarah loved it here – her place to be – store to store!

find a shell – write on it and then hang it from a tree!
It was a warm day – low tide so lots of shells to look at!

For the last four weeks – there was a on going struggle between the owners of the business’s
and the city council and the mayor of North Myrtle Beach!
A year ago the Covid 19 hit and everything went into lock down
The annual parade was canceled and places were deserted.
Many did not survive 12 months later!
A lot of store fronts are vacant!
The business were told they would be fined if they proceeded –
I do not know the inside story only what I read .
The parade was canceled even though hundreds of people showed up
with no masks and no social distancing.
Instead there would be a steady stream of golf carts
all decked out – business with bars – blocked off with yellow tape and orange cones.
The celebration would go on after one year!
We went to main street with our masks and stayed away – 6 feet from people.
Sometimes that was impossible.
We watched and took it all in – it was a happy feeling – even though we were aware of our surroundings.
This main intersection would normally be crowded –
I really do not know just how they are staying in business!
Maybe – with Spring Break coming up – they will have customers.
A lot of people are condemning the celebration – but I do not!
We stayed away from the bars where most people were –
we found a place to sit and observe.
I hope that this was all worth it!

We had watch them jacking the house up on steel I beams –
cribbing and disconnecting all the electric and plumbing!
A second floor deck had been disconnected and a pool – in ground left there with a cement patio!
A long walkway to the beach with a sitting area at the end.
Two flags on a flag pole still waved in the breeze.
We wondered where it would go and how much this would cost?
The – a block away – lot was cleared – leveled and electric pole put in.
That was when we thought – is it possible it was being moved here?
And then one day last week – the electric went out and back on shortly after –
They – the movers had begun the move at 9:04 AM.
Traffic was blocked off – a lot of police cars and county officials and the moving company
and all of its equipment.
The electric had gone off and back on for them to disconnect the power lines and splice in once again.
The two story house was on the move!
A lot of people watching – HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE TURN?
The house was moved – still left on the huge trailers with wheels.
I am thinking they will start soon to put a foundation under it!
I have no idea how much this cost – but the beachfront lot is worth a million or more.
A house at the end of the rainbow! LOL!

So we did – the half mile walk through the neighborhood
To the gate entrance and then cross Hillside drive
Walk another block and cross Ocean Blvd. to the parking lot!
Growing up – we would take Debby and her sister Tammy to the beach
Whenever we could for vacation.
Now – whenever they can – they take their families to the Ocean.
Early on – we taught them to respect the environment
To not litter and see the wonders of what is around them.

We made a trip back North to NVA!
To make arrangements to move what is left of our belongings to Ocean Isle Beach
to a storage unit we rented some 3 miles from the new house being built!
That way – if the build goes beyond our lease date –
we have a place to store items and a place to stay with friends if needed!
My son in law handled the storage unit up North
and two days later we met the crew at the storage unit here.
MY GUYS MOVING – a shout out to them – they were very professional!
All of this – the move South – saying goodbyes – finding a place to build
It is a adventure – but nothing new – we have been this way all our married lives together.
Four thousand pounds!
That is what we moved to here.
We have now purchased almost all of our furniture to go with the new house.
This here is mostly personal stuff – things that are family!

We had made our second trip back home to NVA!
It was cold – no snow – sunshine – seeing family –
Running errands and keeping appointments.
Arranging the clean out of our storage unit and moving it South
To Ocean Isle Beach storage.
But – once again we set forth and traveled back to “HOME” in S.C.
Where we will be for a total of nine months until our new build is finished!
Back to our HAPPY PLACE as Sherry calls it!
THE BEACH where we try to walk every day.
SUN- SAND – WATER – life is good.
We had always talked of one day being able to walk the beach every day!
I never thought we could make that happen.
But – then the stock market slid South last March –
Taking 30 % or our 401K with it!
On the positive side – our house gained in value!
We discussed it and decided now was the time to cash in on the home value!
We started the process and with 24 hours sold our dream home.
For way over the asking price and most of the furnishings!
We were now Vagabonds!
Free to go where ever we wanted to.
First for three months we would stay with the daughters – helping out!
Then we would head South where it is warmer and no SNOW!
Today – we are building some sixteen miles away
In Ocean Isle Beach – West of the ICW!
Where a short ten minute or so drive – we can walk the beach!
Healthy living – eating ( I love Kale) and walking three miles a day –
in the sand – warm – listening to the sound of the waves!
All because of the stock market slide a year ago!

As you can see – the garage has a entrance directly into the hallway and laundry room!
Our life has evolved – from NVA to S.C. and eventually N.C.
All in the span of some nine months!
Where has the time gone – and when did those 40 years fly by?
We started dating in early 1981 – married in June of 1982 –
and today – building a house!
The garage has a overhead storage area with pull down steps.
The three entrance doors are leaning against the walls.
There is a pipe coming up out of the cement floor that I have no idea what it is for!
We are hoping to be in by early June!
We have a storage unit nearby and have our belongings in there.
The walls have been coated on the bottom with a termite barrier!
The floor plates are bolted down into the cement
and metal corner braces to code for hurricanes installed!
Solid construction to N.C. building codes.
It was exciting to tour on a Sunday with no one around!
This is the third house that we have had built – most likely our last – both of us will be 72 !

He quietly came down the carpeted stairs –
and walked softly over to me where I was writing my blog.
Bode – six years old – our only boy – five grand daughters!
“How many sleeps are left Papa – before you go away”? he asked.
You see – every morning when we stay with them – before 6 am. down he comes.
“Will you walk to the bus stop with me Papa”?
He started a week ago going to actual school twice a week.
Three days at home virtual learning!
Two sleeps I answered and yes I will walk with you!
” I LOVE YOU PAPA”!
The twins – Cassidy and Taylor – have been in virtual learning the entire time
Making the choice not to go back to school –
They are thriving and doing really well!
They both are in the basement only in different rooms –
they help each other out – Cassidy will always go to Taylor if she does not understand!
I had no idea what the glasses were for – but was told –
“They are BLUE GLASSES Papa – to protect your eyes from the screen on the chrome book”!
WOW – they look so old in them!
He told us he liked school – does not know how many are in his class –
Does not know how many boys or how many girls are in his class!
” But Papa , I am the fastest one in my class”!

We traveled back to NVA to first watch our granddaughter play college soccer
at The University of Lynchburg!
We spent the night – Friday , standing in the rain to watch them play!
She scored a goal and they won 4 to 1!
We spent the next day hiking along the river in Lynchburg!
We left Sunday morning taking Sarah with us to Leesburg
Where she spent the night and then her mother and Ella picked her up!
We stayed here for the entire week – enjoying family times.
We had a ton of things to do –
Inspection – rotate tires – oil change
Clean up storage locker – take things back with us-
Arrange to have storage unit moved down to Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.
See some people to pick up some things –
and do our dentist appointments for cleaning and x-rays.
Our trip has almost come to a end –
SUNSET at Tammy and Marcus house!

We decided before a late lunch to walk the river trail in Lynchburg Va.
We had time to kill before eating a late lunch –
besides – Maddy wanted to get out into the open and walk

After a couple miles we made it to the turn around
where this was as far as we would go even though it continued!
It was time to jump – act wild – and be funny!
Before heading back to the hotel and have a serious game of RUMMIKUB!
I was called over to help Ella out – they told me to stay away after I helped her! LOL

The day we left to venture back to Northern Virginia –
I glanced out the sliding glass doors and this is what I saw!
I also looked for the swans – we have three of them now –
and here they came – gliding past the other community pool –
These two hand out around our end –
While the lone swan hangs down on the other end.
These two are mates and will not let the lone swan near them.
I have seen what I think to be the male of the two –
Make a beeline toward the lone swan –
enough so that the lone swan takes off flying over the lake and lands at the far end!
In a few days we will head back down to S.C. once again to “HOME”!
Funny how that has worked out – we are very comfortable with the area now!
And – as much as we love our family time and visiting –
Home is where our hearts are now – the new build and the excitement
of the family visiting us!

She is a determined young lady – her last two years of travel –
she drove herself 65 miles each way so she could compete with the best in the
Metro D.C area in Loudoun County – a hot bed of recruiting for college soccer.

College life this year is so different with Covid – 19.
The season for our granddaughter – Maddy has been delayed from Fall
to Spring – and only a certain amount of spectators will be allowed in to watch!
But life in college goes forward – from virtual learning – to social distancing.
To team functions – everyone on the team has had covid except one player.
What a strange year – but their season began in mid Feb.
with a win – 2 to 0 with Maddy having a assist.
College life – a big step in any other time – but this is the biggest of her young life.
Dedication – maintaining a high GPA – and on breaks working – goals of a young woman.
Who will major in Environmental science – engineering.
All the while playing soccer in college – her dream since she was first able to kick the ball!

It was not planned – but we had weeks and weeks of non stop rain!
So – Sherry made the call – what are you doing to our friends
who now live some 50 miles from us!
Lets get together – you come here for a over night stay –
we will walk the beach if it does not rain!
So – they did – came down and stayed overnight!
Yep – story of our lives now!
We played cards – laughed – and walked.
The rain held off and the Sun came out – but was still cold!
We made the most of it!
They walked the two miles up to the pier –
we walked the mile back to the condo –
The wind was blowing – but on the beach –
The ladies said the sun kept them warm.
We picked up our car and drove up to the pier –
and got out and met them just as they arrived!
We walked a short distance up the beach –
Before we decided to get in the car and drive around.
We showed them the canals and cottages.
Stopped at the boat landing – and then returned to the condo!
So ended another great time with friends –
No rain – walking – games and just great fun.

We had a fine day to be out and about – so we decided to show them some nature
As they are all about the outdoors!
We went back to Vareen Memorial Gardens –
just before you cross the state line into N.C. in Little River S.C.
Across the marsh and over the tidal canals –
at low tide – does not look so scary when empty!
We entered the trees and brush along a sand pathway – trail.
We had been here a couple times before
bringing family to explore and see the ICW and the beauty of a pristine nature walk.
The girls loved this as did Debby who is all about the outdoors and hiking!
We soon entered the trees and bush growth
it was shaded in here and I think would be welcomed in the S.C. heat of Summer!
One last walkway before entering the pine and cypress trees!
The path is marked – and branches off in all directions!
A shaded walk – can be a couple miles if you select the right path
We choose the shorter route – we had some more places to show them!
WE WILL BE BACK someday we told them!

PAPA’S WORLD – HIKING THROUGH VAREEN MEMORIAL GARDENS WITH FAMILY!
These three are anything but this!
They love playing games – competitive games!
They play sports – the two oldest – soccer – and one is in college playing
and the second – next fall will do the same.
The youngest is into dance – loves the arts – and wants to go to NYC!
All three love their Grandma – laughing with her and at her!
We took Sarah and Ella for a week to the beach last summer –
We took Maddy to swim with the Manatee’s for her 16th. birthday
We took Ella to Disney Star wars for her 16th. birthday
And now when Sarah reaches 16 – she wants to go to NYC and Broadway!
I will sit that one out – her mother can take my place!
Maddy has made the leap to college – now in her Sophomore year
as a Freshman she played in 13 games at the University of Lynchburg – Va.
And has maintained a GPA – over a 3.85!
She just played this past weekend – having one assist –
one barely missed assist and one barely missed shot on goal.
They won 2 to 0!
Ella will finish her H.S. soccer this Spring –
She had two colleges to pick from and choose Randolpf College in Lynchburg Va.
Just across town from her sister and they will compete against one another!
Sarah is all about fashion – no interest in soccer at all!
Although when little – she played as well as her older sisters!
She loves to dance in competitions when younger and shows.
Her goal is one day to create fashions and design – produce movies – acting!
All three are like this – beautiful on the inside – smiling on the outside – living life to the good.

This Swan just showed up one day – at first we thought it was one of the three
that had been here before!
But – later we found out two of them had died.
Then – within a week – two more showed up!
We found out that the wildlife management places them!
The other two will have nothing to do with this one!
As soon as it gets near – they will chase it away.
I have seen this one take off and fly to the far end of the lake
to get away from the other two!
I think the other two are mates and this might be a single male!

It has a way of pulling you – the sound – the air – and the chill!
We try to walk the beach every day – except during the rain!
I bundle up – because I do get cold easily!
They told me I would after I had my heart attack some 7 1/2 years ago.
And – that is true – I really do not like being cold!
So – this winter – I will take the chill – some rain – actually a lot of rain –
and some wind – but – I dress warm and toasty!
I have found – NO SNOW – NO ICE – can make up for that chilly air and wind-
as long as I am warm I can and do walk!
Sometimes we are the only ones out there!
We will try it until the wind drives us off –
Sand blowing in ones face and eyes – well – I can do without that!

We are blessed in that we have so many dear friends.
Some – for me – go back to childhood.
We have been friends since first grade – Bob and I.
We played sports together – stayed at one anothers homes.
Ran the streets after dark – drank a few beers together
and still – to this day – meet up and share old memories.
They will stop in on their way back home to N.H. in May.

Freddie and I go back to 7th. grade
Playing sports together – card games – there were four of us that paled around
Freddie – Bobby and Jon ( deceased)
Lynda and Fred are the oldest couple still together as our friends.
We have traveled the World together –
Spain – Gibraltar – Morocco – Canada – and numerous states on the East coast and the West coast
and in between.
Always planning new adventures.
Friends as neighbors since 1987!
Jim – Dottie and I all grew up in the same town in Pa. called Eldred.
Jim -Sherry and I all worked together in Olean N.Y.
It has been a long and rewarding friendship all these years.
When all the kids were young – we would vacation together at the beach.
We were neighbors and they were Buck and Cindy’s friends.
We lived beside them for 12 1/2 years
We would race our ride mowers up and down the street! LOL
We would play jokes on each other.
It was a great time in our lives and the McBrides and us left the hood
shortly after they left and moved South.
The John’s own a painting corp that travels the USA
painting various structures and energy companies pipe lines.
We will spend a long weekend with them at the lake house in WNY!
The Browns and McBrides also.
Jo graduated one year behind me
Paul graduated with Sherry from Smethport.
We got to know one another through reunions
and have traveled to their home in Phoenix and them to ours before the pandemic.
We have maintained that friendship for the last ten years or so.
Here we are at the WALL in DC.
Reflections of the soul I call this.
For the last 14 years or more – we have bonded with his parents.
Always visiting them when we lived in NVA.
They have come down to visit us in North Myrtle Beach.
In laws and friends – FAMILY!
There are times we try to bring us all together to golf.
Wish it would happen more often.
But when it does – it is fun and guys vs. gals!
If we are not on our game – they will beat us! LOL

We first rented this for three months – not knowing where we would be.
Then in November – after six weeks of house hunting –
We decided it was just as cost effective to build!
You see – in our price range – we found a lot of houses – condo’s
But each one we liked – there had to be things done!
We could do these things – but it would take time and money.
Plus – another cost was to furnish it!
We sold almost all our furniture – and you can not just hire someone
Most will put you on a list!
So – we extended our time here – and found a building development
one half hour away into N.C. – close to two beaches for our walks and company
And made our selections – everything we wanted and still in our price range.
We will be here until the end of June!
Our house is suppose to be finished by the end of May!
That will give us time to get our stored stuff moved down here
and Sherry does what she loves to do – SHOP!

We had passed the entrance dozens of times –
Sherry said we need to stop and see what is there!
So – on our way to our property – we stopped – just a few miles North of the border
of S.C. and N.C.
outside Little River S.C.
We parked – and there were clean johnny on the spots –
benches and tables – covered area to sit and eat.
Swings for kids and numerous trail heads.
We thought – we need to bring the kids here when they visit!
We picked a trail that took us toward the ICW!
Wanting to see the water way and the boats.
There were piers to walk out on and decks to sit.
We had forgotten to pick up a map of the trails
so we selected one and off we went.
Had no idea where it would go – we were exploring as we do all the time!
We continued on – checking our fit bits to see how far we had walked.
All the while staying on the path to the right as others branched off.
I could see across the marsh where we had started
and I could tell we were looping back toward the parking lot!

This view is what first got my attention when I was looking for a place to rent!
I came across it and right away I called to Sherry –
“How would you like to live here for a while” ?
It took maybe one minute to decide – this is where we will go until we find another place!
We have now been here – at this time of writing – early January – some 13 weeks!
And – expecting our house to be done – the end of June!
The other reason is the walk to the beach –
a little over 1/2 mile and we are standing here.
Although the clouds roll in and out –
very few times have we not been able to walk with rain ruining it!
Plus – we are so close to other trails – nature – we can explore.
We are building a house – in the long run – it was about the same as buying one already built!
In our price range.
And – we will still be close to this – one half hour away!
The area we choose is in N.C. 15 miles away.
There we are close to two other beaches!
Ocean Isle Beach ( which is the address) and Sunset Beach.
Both about 4 and 6 miles away!
The skies here are wonderful – different each day – I always notice skies where ever we are!

When we moved 21 years ago – from Western New York –
to Northern Va. my thought was we are now in the South!
We actually picked up another four to six weeks of better weather
on either side of winter!
We liked the area – going into Washington DC on a regular basis.
We purchase three homes while there – two that we actually built.
We had most of our family follow us there.
But – it still got cold and three times –
an accumulation of snow greater than in all the 50 years we lived in the snow belt!
Now – we are calling this home until our home we are building if finished
some time in the next 4 to 6 months!
Home has a different meaning now – and we have become comfortable now here.
Enough that when you have that yearning to go back home
visions of what awaits you run through your mind!
While dating almost 40 years ago – we spent a week in the outer banks
with my brother and some of his friends.
That is when our bond for the ocean became a fixed state in our minds.
Our Vacations revolved around different trips with our children
to beaches up and down the East coast!
Home is where the heart is – and while we could not find a home here –
we are building one close – 14 miles away at another beach address –
OCEAN ISLE BEACH in North Carolina!
It is a 30 minute drive North of here – so we can often come back to walk!
There are two beaches there within 4 to 6 miles –
Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach!
Home is where your heart is – and now our hearts are in the deeper South!
Where warm is Sun – no snow – ice – and 50 plus degrees every day!

When we were firs married – we went to the beach in the Outer Banks.
Our goal each year was to take the kids to the beach for vacation.
I always dreamed of one day – to somehow work close to the beach –
I would always say ” I am going to sell hot dogs on the beach – just so I could be there”!
Today – everyday where we are –
we are living that dream.
We sold our home back in NVA.
Along with most furniture
and are renting a condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach S.C.
And we walk 1/2 mile through the gated community – to the beach!
Anything in the Sun – mid 40’s to mid 50’s and no wind – I am for it!
But – snow – wind – ice (slip and fall) I am out of there!
So – we pulled the trigger – after we said to ourselves – we do not want to renovate at our age.
We want to live our remaining lives while we can –
playing golf – exploring and walking the beaches!
We made our selections before Thanksgiving – the paper work was done –
The deposit made – banking finalized –
And when we returned from NVA –
We went to the lot –
THE FORMS WERE IN TO POUR THE FOUNDATION!
Our dream is about to take place.
We have found our shopping stores – and are exploring the area –
Golfing is everywhere and the beach is four miles away!
We are on the mainland and cross the ICW to get to the beach.
Now – we will wait to get a close date-
we have to buy furniture and move from storage what we have left.
Our dream is about to become a reality – walking the beach – warm weather –

We went to the new property after coming back from NVA
leaving the snow- ice and cold behind
and saw that they had the forms in ready to pour cement!
Then we walked the beach!
Blessings are where you put down roots!
Work is where you are and where you walk!
That is owning your own network marketing business!
A year in which we have a pandemic but also a year in which we have blessings!
We explore – we walk – we play golf –
we do not miss the cold – we miss the people!

On our way to discover the path to the beach –
I stopped us to talk to a lady walking her dog.
We found out she also was from NVA and had just bought a condo there!
She gave us information on golf carts – and the sales office.
Seems – property is sold first inside the development
and rarely listed outside to the public!
And then you turn around and look straight
and that is the parking lot and entrance to the beach!
Point 66 mile walk and you are standing here
about ready to go to the water!
The beach is very wide even at high tide!
This is looking North.
Instead of going back the way we came
We decided to walk South along the beach
and come out on the road that runs into the shopping area!
About here is where we came off the beach
and were able to find shops that had buy one
get the second one half price!
So – we bought two light weight beach chairs
that had straps so we could carry on our backs
to make the walk to the beach easy
and still have arms free to bring whatever we needed!
Once back “home” at the condo
it was time to fix dinner – and have some cocktails on the lanai!
We have explored everyday
living the life so to speak

We like to explore and I love old towns and history of the area!
We had completed the River Walk and then headed onto main street.
This being Sunday – there were no stores open!
Which surprised me as there were lots of people on the River Walk.
Walking – taking in the sites – and then we both noticed just how many old
historic churches were here!
Maybe that is the reason for stores being closed on Sunday?
We also looked at the first church that was built here
Thinking that the people had outgrown it!
A beautiful stain glassed window!
Thsi was a very solid built building
but I think it ended up being too small
So they constructed the second church!
We also walked by one other large church that sat on the river-
and had drive up docks for boats
and signs for people who came to church using the River!
This was also as large as the big one here.

Sherry has a friend from back in NVA who also owns a home just outside Conway.
She told us we had to visit this town as it has large living Oak trees
and a historic part with a River-Walk!
I tried to see into the water – but it was black!
I guess there is a chemical released from the Cypress trees that line the banks –
that leaches into the water – turning it a almost black color!
It just gave me the creeps not knowing what or if anything is in there!
The trees and bushes were really beautiful as was the new walk way!
We also came across a marina – with docks and boats – this area seemed to me – to be like a campground for boats! There were a number of boats with people living on them and they looked to be in pretty rough shape! I would not want to take them out onto the river. There was bathrooms here so I assume the people used them to bath etc.
