My step father John – my mother Mary and my brother in law Bill.
John was a decorated WWII hero – with the purple heart and numerous other medals.
He captured a castle and a Nazi officer out of uniform – there is a story in a military journal
that is in the WWII museum in Eldred Pa.that chronicles that event.
He took from that officer a automatic machine gun pistol – vintage WWI – that also resides in the museum
and is worth upwards in the thousands of dollars. They keep it locked away as it is so valuable.
He was wounded several times and went back into action.
Bill was a vet of the forgotten war – Korea – he seldom talked about it but while I was growing up –
he gave to me his sleeping bag that he used in the cold winters there.
I admire his stamina as all it was is a wool blanket inside a canvas liner!
I would get very cold while sleeping outside on the ground in it!
He was more to me than a brother in law – he was my friend and like a brother to me.
One time I was out with him on patrol in the cop car – he was the town cop –
We drove down across the tracks and out past the old pipe building –
he saw a woodchuck and said to me –
“Do I get him”? “Sure I said”!
He pulled out his gun and from the front seat shot that old woodchuck –
I almost went deaf from that gun going off!
I said ” JESUS CHRIST BILL” and then we both just burst out laughing!
Lesson – never fire a gun from inside a car – you can barely hear for like 10 minutes!
John and Mary ( my mother) holding pies that she made from scratch!
Mom was known all over the town and county and into NYS for her baking.
She would bake rolls – bread – pies and cakes. Sweet rolls and sticky buns.
There was not anything she could not knead and bake and all from memory!
She did not need a receipt – she just did it after almost 85 years of her life baking!
She baked as a child learning from her mother who passed at 85 years old.
Mom was next to the youngest of 11 kids and was almost 98 years old when she passed.
She supplied pies and cakes and rolls for a diner in town.
She was so kind and loving – warm and gentle – but she also was a strong women – way before her time – she believed in equal rights and taught me that – she would come up with these sayings that made me laugh – ” You are as useless as a two petered billy goat”
Or she would say ” You are as useless as teats on a boar hog”! She had me in stitches –
she also played the accordion my father the spoons and sang and my uncle jack the wash board.
They would do this at family picnics and if the beer was free – at social events.
When she was young – she traveled with my grandma in the logging camps of Pa.
Making breakfast – lunch and dinner as a way to make money in the depression.
My father passed away in 1969 after a long battle with cancer – leaving mom a widow and my younger brother just entering H.S. After about ten years she met John – and they remarried – both of them.
They were together until he passed away at age 81.
She called him “JOHNNY BOY” and he was so good to her – just what she needed after ten years losing my dad.
He could fix anything and construction was his forte.
His cars and trucks immaculate even though they were ten years old – showroom condition.
He fixed up and remodled the house which she had kept going all those years .
That same house today is still in the family after almost 78 years –
my great niece lives there today.
Mary ( Mom) and John ( her Johnny boy)

FAMILY MEETS FRIENDS
MY BLOG SITE: livnglifedoingitmyway.blog
Just another memory of my family gone but not forgotten.
If you are interested in good health and nutrition –
Marcus – Cassidy – Tammy – baby Bode – Taylor THE KROHNS!
They now live just outside of Leesburg Va. about 30 minutes from where we used to live.
Whenever we do go home – we have a bedroom and bath in the basement – along with a suite of other rooms.
There is a walk out to the fenced in back yard.
Out there is a fire pit – huge patio and a pergola – multiple chairs and some rockers and a outdoor table and chairs we left behind.
A Boce court that was there when they bought the house – really beautiful setting!
The back yard fountain next to the patio and fire pit.
Now – there is a new addition – MARLEY – the goldendoodle – Tammy’s dog – that she wanted – a big dog to walk!
Marley and Tammy – waiting for the storm to roll in!
She has always wanted a dog – but it had to be THE DOG!
The kids love her – Taylor has a way with her as she does with horses!
She – Marley – has now become a major part of the family! Here – she sits looking at the neighbors Mastiff – she runs over and they race back and forth on each owns side of the fence.
Marcus has now taken up cross country on his bicycle – going 89 miles through hills – gravel roads etc. in a race with other’s – finishing well up in the pack for his first race!

Here is our before 9:am. early morning walk – a little more crowed but nothing not expected! Looking South to North Myrtle Beach from where we enter the access to the beach.
From the beach access looking toward Cherry Grove – a few more people – but not a lot!
But – this is the beginning of the week for Spring Breakers –
and we noticed traffic getting heavey.
We have found our way around and avoid the high traffic on rte. 17!
We take the side streets as far as we can – and one side street takes up to where we can shop!
Now – in the afternoon we decided to do a couple hours of a beach day – taking and carrying our chairs to the beach. Here is the same view looking toward North Myrtle Beach – a lot more people and a lot of people in the water. But we still had our own space – no one within thirty feet of us!
Here is the same view in the afternoon looking toward Cherry Grove! And – it will get more crowed as Spring turns into Summer with vacations! We are in the open space and avoid large gatherings which happen mostly toward North Myrtle Beach town center. A lot of young H.S. and college students gather on the beach there in a large group. You just avoid them as they will do what they do regardless!
Being here is still our dream – we will come back often as we like it here –
but also where we are moving too – no traffic – country quiet – we can walk –
and still be in access to the other two beaches!
The beach here is very wide – I have been told it is the widest on the Grand Strand!
Once it was in the mid to high ’70’s and full sun –
Into the water they went!
Notice how protective Cassidy is of her little brother!
They fight and argue – but no one touches him according to her!
These two should have been the twins
they act and sound just alike.
She is so kind – loving and thoughtful.
Cassidy and Bode – two peas in a pod!
Taylor – or “TATTER TOT” as her cousin Ella calls her!
She on the other hand loves her alone time away from the other two! LOL!
She rides horses – and whenever around her MorMor – holds her hand.
She is the serious – studious one who quotes facts!
“AS AMATTER OF FACT” she says and then goes on to tell you!
BODE – after FIVE GRAND DAUGHTERS – he is the only boy and all boy!
Only six years old – and will be tall like Taylor!
Bode – cars – trucks – bikes – playing Army – running – riding – scraps – bruises – scabs – star wars – monsters – independent – never wearing shoes or socks and shirtless in the cold!
It was a very warm day in the sun – water to me was very cold – but they loved it!
Taylor is goin to be really tall like her MorMor – I think close to six foot!
They played and played in the water – coming out to run up and tell us something and then back they went!
For us – it was sit and take it all in – the sun was warm which is what I like!
Cassidy – small but a spitfire! Always calling her MorMor as does Bode! Love you Papa she says!
Yes – the sun was warm – the sand was also – yet the water was cold – but to them – it was their day at the beach!
A little over 10 years ago – they came along – so tiny – early – because they determined one was taking all the nutrition.
And – the day they decided this – just happened to be their mother’s birthday!
That is right – mother and daughters now celebrate the same day birthdays!
IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME!
Cassidy and Taylor – they were so small with Taylor weighing some 13 oz. more!
Does not sound like much – but they both weighed some 3 lbs. plus oz. !
Through out life for them – Taylor has always been the bigger of the two.
They were so darn cute – playing hide and seek!
Cassidy is a little spit fire – Taylor more laid back!
They continue to grow this way – my thought is – Cassidy will end up taller than her mother who is 5′ 6″ tall – and Taylor is taking after her MorMor ( Sherry 5’9″) and will be close to 6’0 when all is said and done! She already is over 5′ at ten years old! Look at Cassidy’s socks!
Taylor and Bode with MorMor( Sherry) Bode is going to be tall also as he is only six years old!
Sweetness – Taylor rides horses – Cassidy is the more serious type – she teaches the other two crafts.
Taylor is always ready to help her in schoolwork –
Cassidy the more daring one – you can just tell that by the picture!
Both love their MorMor and both will call her!
The little SPIT FIRE! Cassidy – ” Someday I am going to be big” she says!
She has the biggest heart – always watching over the other two – her and Bode are two peas in a pod!
Ella – our second oldest granddaughter – enrolling in Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.
We called her “TINY” as she was growing up –
Her father came up with that nickname –
Today she stands 5′ 8 1/2 ” –
Our little girl is all grown up!
Along with her entrance into the four year program – she will also play college soccer – being recruited – she had two schools to select from – and it just so happens to be cross town from the University of Lynchburg – where her sister starts on the soccer team there – and yes they will compete against one another!
Ella with her mother Debby – all three granddaughters are as tall or taller than their mother. Debby’s mother – Sherry – is 5′ 9″ – so they are most likely inheriting the Swedish genes from her.
It is a beautiful campus – nestled in the foothills surrounding Lynchburg.
The soccer field a easy walk from the dorms.
Ella with her father Mike.
She endured two injuries during her Middle school and H.S.
Both were broken bones in her feet.
One she was stepped on with a cleat
and the other she just landed wrong on it.
She lost two seasons of playing soccer
but when she did – was recruited by two different colleges.
Today she walks the path to her future!
Due to the Pandemic – her H.S. soccer season was moved from the fall to the spring.
She is about to begin playing –
Her travel soccer was played although the number of games reduced.
She competed and will move onto the next level in the Fall.
There is a place near the ICW – where there are hundreds of shells hanging from trees – each one is someones WISH!
We brought them – Debby – Sarah and Ella to Vareen’s Memorial Garden
Just as we did with their cousins – and here is a special place
to not wish upon a star – but a SEASHELL and the hang it form one of the Cypress Trees!
Sarah Sherry Ella Debby at the make a wish site.
Sarah’s hanging wishes for all her school friends!
The first make a wish tree – now there are many more!
Many people pass through here each day –
I watched two older women stop and do the same thing –
find a shell – write on it and then hang it from a tree!
Busy writing their names and making their wishes!
Debby’s shell – no matter how old you are – make a wish to come true!
Taylor’s shell in front of Ella’s shell – cousins!
It was a warm day – low tide so lots of shells to look at!
Sarah going to the ICW to look for shells.

SHERRY SSC for The Juice Plus Company Debby QMND for The Juice Plus Company – Mother and daughter teaming up to bring health and nutrition to families all across the U.S.A.
A few blocks North of this beach entrance – a beachfront home was moved a block from the beach!
We had watch them jacking the house up on steel I beams –
cribbing and disconnecting all the electric and plumbing!
A second floor deck had been disconnected and a pool – in ground left there with a cement patio!
A long walkway to the beach with a sitting area at the end.
Two flags on a flag pole still waved in the breeze.
We wondered where it would go and how much this would cost?
The – a block away – lot was cleared – leveled and electric pole put in.
That was when we thought – is it possible it was being moved here?
And then one day last week – the electric went out and back on shortly after –
They – the movers had begun the move at 9:04 AM.
Traffic was blocked off – a lot of police cars and county officials and the moving company
and all of its equipment.
The electric had gone off and back on for them to disconnect the power lines and splice in once again.
The two story house was on the move!
Already crossed over four lanes of Ocean Blvd. moving slowly up the street to make the right hand turn onto Hillside drive.Almost to the corner of Hillside drive.
A lot of people watching – HOW ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE THE TURN?
Almost there!About to make the turn! The turn is made – they would lay down huge wooden pallets for the wheels under the house to travel on the one side of the roadway grass! From the rear – going down Hillside drive to the cleared lot! You can see the tracks in the road of the swing to make the turn.Almost there after hours of slowly moving and repositioning the wooden pallets. Finally in place after almost a full day – well into the afternoon!Once a beachfront house – now a block away on a side street – the journey to this lot completed.
The house was moved – still left on the huge trailers with wheels.
I am thinking they will start soon to put a foundation under it!
I have no idea how much this cost – but the beachfront lot is worth a million or more.
Sherry Sarah Ella Debby – house and outhouse!
A house at the end of the rainbow! LOL!

After unpacking – the very first thing they wanted to do after riding seven hours – “GO TO THE BEACH”!
They love the sand – the surf and the sound of the water and waves –
LETS WALK TO THE BEACH said Sherry!
So we did – the half mile walk through the neighborhood
To the gate entrance and then cross Hillside drive
Walk another block and cross Ocean Blvd. to the parking lot!
And then – you are standing on the sand – looking out to sea – looking for Dolphins!
Growing up – we would take Debby and her sister Tammy to the beach
Whenever we could for vacation.
Now – whenever they can – they take their families to the Ocean.
They are so excited – finding shells – talking – sticking their toes into the water! We have raised them to respect nature – to be a part of it – they love the outdoors.
Early on – we taught them to respect the environment
To not litter and see the wonders of what is around them.
Walking the sand – listening to the sound – “THE BEACH”!

Our new home being built in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – Brunswick County – N.C.
As you can see – the garage has a entrance directly into the hallway and laundry room!
Our life has evolved – from NVA to S.C. and eventually N.C.
All in the span of some nine months!
Where has the time gone – and when did those 40 years fly by?
We started dating in early 1981 – married in June of 1982 –
and today – building a house!
The garage with Sherry looking into the laundry room and the kitchen straight down the hall.
The garage has a overhead storage area with pull down steps.
The three entrance doors are leaning against the walls.
There is a pipe coming up out of the cement floor that I have no idea what it is for!
We are hoping to be in by early June!
We have a storage unit nearby and have our belongings in there.
The beginnings of the kitchen – island and the breakfast nook – bump out window and beyond the covered over windows – the screened in covered lanai!
The walls have been coated on the bottom with a termite barrier!
The floor plates are bolted down into the cement
and metal corner braces to code for hurricanes installed!
Solid construction to N.C. building codes.
The vaulted living room and the extended sun room and to the right – the master bedroom and bath and closet.Sherry inspecting our office – where we will do our home based internet business – http://www.sf.juiceplus.com – which will have french doors – and beyond her is the hall and laundry room and to the right the kitchen.
It was exciting to tour on a Sunday with no one around!
The spare bath – just across the hallway of the office and to the left and right will be two bedrooms.
This is the third house that we have had built – most likely our last – both of us will be 72 !
If you wish to see more of the build – visit my previous blog

Sherry and our family – the Winchester Va. family!
An early picture of me holding my niece and my little brother – both have passed away – in fact – all my close family except two nieces and two great nieces are gone that I grew up with.
A early picture in the ’50’s of my older brother Roger on the basketball team. He also has passed on.
My early childhood was spent in a little town in NWPA called Eldred.
Near the NYS border and just across the mountain from Bradford-
home of Kendall – Penns oil – Quaker State and the South Penn oil fields.
My older brother Roger and myself in The Villages shortly before he passed away.
Growing up here was like the movie “STAND BY ME”
I had friends like that – and road my bike everywhere!
Curfew for me was BE HOME BEFORE THE STREET LIGHTS COME ON”!
My brother in law Bill and my sister Donna – both gone but not forgotten. Bill was once interviewed by Larry King – he was a truck driver but also the Chief of Police and later Mayor – Mr. King found that to be a interesting story!

When we were here with our grand kids – CASSIDY -TAYLOR – BODE – they strung together these shells with all our names on them including MORMOR & PAPA! Each time we return – we can feel them being here!
They began gathering their shells –
We had shown them the shells that the grand kids had hung from the tree!
The shell Taylor hung with her initials – TK – and the month and year!
In the back ground – our grand daughters – Cassidy – shell with her cousins Olivia in the foreground.
They loved doing this – and when other family members come down
we shall do the same!
On the tree – Sherry wrote the names – Taylor – Cassidy – Bode and now Maya and Olivia.
Maya signing her shell.
Olivia signing her shell!
We spent some time here – reading other shells and found one with a date of 1990!

MORMOR – Swedish for MOTHERS-MOTHER – that has become her name for the three little ones!
Sherry has introduced crafts to all the grand kids –
and to this day – the three older ones still do crafts!
Taylor Bode Cassidy 10 6 10 years old.
All you have to do is say craft and the go right to the table – no fuss!
Busy once again – crafting – she teaches them and now Cassidy helps the other two. She is the one who texts – calls or zooms her MORMOR every day!
Cassidy – who can do any craft by herself – and often sets by herself with her IPAD – listening to instructions and creates pictures and drawings that are much larger than what she sees on the IPAD – drawing freestyle!
The older ones have that same talent – Ella has won awards for her creations.
Taylor – whom loves her alone time – building farms – houses – horses out of LEGO’S!
Bode -the one who is hard to slow down – always on the move – loves his craft time with MORMOR!
She teaches them – one at a time – not only crafts – but life itself!
Here they are after creating their make a shell wish – and MorMor helping to hang those wishes!

Our young grandson – five granddaughters and then Bode!
From the very moment they pulled in – he asked that question –
PAPA – CAN WE GO ON YOUR HIKE?
To him – a hike is like back home – rocks – hills forest – streams!
I tried to explain to him it is different here –
But PAPA – That is not a hike – we have to go to the mountains!
Bode – entering the forest for our hike – along the ICW and the marsh land – no gators – at least we saw none!
“FOLLOW ME GUYS”!
He is a leader – and always out in front!
This is him to a tee – always staying ahead of the game – his own mind.
We walked a good mile and one half through the woods –
although he was out in front of me or alongside of me –
he never sought to run off –
staying close to me!
There were many intersections going in different directions – which way do we go PAPA he would ask – I had a map so I could tell him – he always listened to what I would say!
The twins – Taylor and Cassidy stayed close to their MORMOR ( Sherry)
We spent the better part of a hour walking the marsh and the woods
I want to come back here in the Summer so we can see more wild life!
