Yes – during the “VACATION SEASON” it is crowded and quite busy!
However, it was this way in the NVA every day throughout the year.
Back there – we learned when to venture out –
And what secondary roads we could travel on.
Here you have one way to the beach –
And we know when to try to cross the bridge and when not to!
It all comes down to the “TIME OF DAY”!
And what the heck –
WE ARE RETIRED!
We have no schedule –
We can come and go as we want.
A very BIG PLUS for us –
We get to stay, while others have a week and leave.
WE ARE NO LONGER THE OTHER FOLKS!

From the end of May to early September –
Our park has OPEN-AIR FREE CONCERTS on Friday evenings.
This draws five hundred to seven hundred people.
But – in the off-season,
There are other concerts,
And festivals and vendors!
So you could say we have the best of both worlds –
PLUS THE WEATHER in September- October and November!
Born and raised in the NYS and WPA –
Those months are like Summer months to us!

The beach is not crowded –
The water is still warm if you want to go in
I DON’T! LOL!
I am satisfied walking in the surf –
Sitting under the shade and just enjoying life near the beach!

We are volunteers for the SEA TURTLE PROTECTION – NC WILDLIFE RESOURCES COMMISSION-
PERMIT 25ST02!
This season runs from mid-May until almost the end of October-
Depending on when the last Sea Turtle lays her eggs!
We spend a lot of time at the beach during this time.
Again, you plan the time you are going and add the time it takes to get there!
Our volunteer work involves –
BEACH WALKING to find Sea Turtle Crawls-
Twenty-four-hour on-call for the VERIFICATION team of Sea Turtle nests.
NEST SITTINGS ( OBSERVATIONS and THE HATCHING OF SEA TURTLES AND CROWD CONTROL)
CHECKING KNOWN NESTS.
SET UP AND TAKE DOWN OF THE “TURTLE TALKS”!
HELPING VENDOR BOOTH.
EDUCATING FOLKS ON THE “WHY” of protection for SEA TURTLES!

We have been married for over FORTY THREE years and together for TWO YEARS before our marriage.
WE ARE NOW ON WHAT I CALL – Easy Living – OIB life!
We selected this site and life after selling our home in Brambleton, VA.
Before that, we lived and worked in WNY!
Family and Friends are very important to us.
We have new friends and old ones who have also moved down here-
And other long-time friends who live in N.C.

Buck and Cindy have been in the area near Leland for years and years-
They were our neighbors back in WNY!
We have maintained these friendships all these years.

Jim and I grew up in the same little town in WPA –
We worked together and played softball together.

Dottie is married to Jim and is from the same town I grew up in.
They now live in Northern N.C.
And all of us get together.
They are also friends with Buck and Cindy.

Our life has evolved –
Living in the South with almost no snow or ice.
This suits us in our Senior years!
