One is the oldest granddaughter while the second is the youngest granddaughter with her twin sister.
One is in her third year at University of Lynchburg – Enviromental Engineering major.
One is in the fifth grade – so caring she calls or zooms her grandmother almost every day.
One starts at the attack front position for the ranked lady soccer hornets soccer team.
And had played in 13 games as a freshmen – started her Sophomore year and again as a junior.
One moved to sit beside her older cousin at the soccer game.
Both are dear to our hearts!
Cassidy with MARLEY – the newest addition to her family!
Always smiling – always caring – always protective of her brother – just who she is. Cassidy
Maddy – a junior at the University of Lynchburg – Environmental Engineering – playing soccer and carrying above a 3.80 GPA! Next to Papa in the picture.
Number 13 – left front attacker – crossing a dribble with her left foot to get around a defender. On a top 25 team in the Division III national polls.

Sherry – John – Jayson – Ginger and Nancy – friends from back in Northern Va. We traveled to Georgetown, S.C. for a lunch on the waterfront!
On the waterfront in Georgetown, S.C.
We have all known each other from NVA for years.
The previous day we had met with Claudia and Jim – they also are friends with everyone – but due to business – we could not coordinate everyone being together at one time. But they were able to see everyone else at different times.
From us to all our friends – love you all!

PAPA’S WORLD – meet up with friends from back home in NVA to here in N.C. and S.C.
One of the reasons we moved to this area on the border of N.C. and S.C. is the golfing!
We have almost 25 courses within 30 minutes of our location and we love to golf.
Our friends also live down here and we try to golf once a week with them.
Sunset Beach – we wanted near the beach and we ended up near two of them – Sunset Beach and OIB!Ocean Isle Beach – both are within minutes of our home!
Papa on the course
Our community of Cameron Woods we chose because it was not clearcut –
a lot of old-growth is here and we love that!

I painted the floor of the front porch on my birthday!
The day before my birthday – we celebrated by going golfing with our close friends.
Then – after dinner at the club – we drove off into a beautiful sunset.
The beginning of our drive home to the west and Cameron Woods Community.
It was such a pleasant drive after an afternoon of golf!
The next day was my birthday and I celebrated by painting the front porch floor – relaxing in my own way – quiet time spent doing what I like best – improving our new home!
I have wanted to do this for a long time – but had to wait for the warranty to fix the crack and fill it in – and then I sanded off and put two coats of paint down – took me a few hours but I loved what I was doing on my birthday!

Papa’s World – beautiful sunset – celebrate my birthday by painting the front porch floor!
The day prior we went golfing with our friends the McBrides at Carolina National Golf Course.
Cindy Sherry and Buck
Friends for a very long time – they live some 30 plus miles from us – and we play once a week when we can.
Buck teeing off
We were playing a Fred Couples signature course in Carolina National just outside Supply, N.C.
Cindy baked me chocolate chip cookies as a birthday gift.
We were almost the last group out for the afternoon and we played nice and easily enjoyed the wildlife such as this large turtle crossing the fairway.
Sherry was about to tee off and placed it right down the middle.
Sherry – victory in the guys vs gals golf scramble!

PAPA’S WORLD – at Carolina National – gals vs guys!
Good day everyone – welcome to Papa’s World – no politics – only fun – family – friends and good thoughts!
“I ordered a new rug for the lanai,” said my wife!
You see – we just had it inclosed as you can see in my previous blogs.
And – true to our concept of BEACH THEME – she nailed it!
It is so bright and fun to be in and sit looking out at the green yard and palm tree and treeline!
Looking at the lawn – solo fire pit and the new palm tree – one of two and the protected forest behind us.
So now with the new rug, we decided to move the waterproof mat outside on the open patio!
For the time being, it will be out here – and will be centered – our thoughts are to buy some used wicker chairs – paint them a bright color and make a little sitting area along with the two high seats for the solo stove and have room for guests to visit!
View from the fire solo stove back to the lanai and rocks instead of mulch.
We are slowly getting it all in place – landscaping and such.
We are holding off on painting inside until after the one-year warranty.
Now we are experimenting with flowers and how they react to the warm summer weather.
The lawn is looking really good as I have fertilized it myself.
When we sold the last home – we sold all my outdoor lawn devices –
keeping a few to trim trees and bushes.
Shovel to dig with and a couple rakes.
Lawnmowing we have hired done every 14 or 15 days.

Good day everyone – do you have secret memories of your grandma?
Her name was Nora and by the time I came along – she was a widow –
Grandpa David Aiken was a big man – I am told 6′ 3″ and a farmer through and through.
That is where I get my middle name and grandma was living with us at the time I was born.
She is what I remember the most from my early childhood and she was a dedicated, TEA DRINKER!
My grandma and my mother taught me this.
But she had “SECRET TREATS” for me – depression-era treats!
The first was a bowl of broken up saltine crackers –
and straight from the farm MILK,
sprinkle on a little sugar and you had “CRACKERS AND MILK”!
I thought that was the best thing!
Grandma and my mother were the reason I was raised Catholic.
The second “LITTLE SECRET” was what she called “COFFEE SOUP”!
Now keep in mind – these were family meals during the Great Depression
when she raised ELEVEN kids on the farm.
She would take a think slice of homemade white bread – warm!
Put it on a plate and poured black coffee over it
add a little farm milk and some sugar and a side of thick bacon or ham!
Today – every time I have my morning coffee I think back to those times of growing up and I see in my mind the picture and the smells of COFFEE SOUP! One of my favorite “SECRET MEMORIES”!
I have not ever had either one of these since childhood again.
But the memory remains with me to this day – it was a “SPECIAL TREAT”
from my grandma “NORA” a kind and gentle lady – who for the first four years of my life raised me.
