Papa’s World- Humor – some thoughts and positivity!

Sherry and I sometimes watch a friend’s two Corgis!

Here is the smallest one named DAX!

He likes to sit by me as close as he can get.

He is the youngest of the two –

The other one is larger and named DUKE!

We take them for walks three times a day-

Feed them twice a day –

And sometimes just relax like here and sit and pet them.

They have gotten to know us quite well.

MY GOOD THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

POSITIVITY!!!!

Papa- ELLA, the second oldest granddaughter, and Sherry.

Here at sunset in our backyard.

She has graduated from college and is now teaching in school.

A POSITIVE AND GOOD THOUGHT!

Oh, to step back in time to when these grandkids were young!

Here are Cassidy, Bode, and Taylor!

A POSITIVE AND GOOD THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

One of my favorites – George Carlin!

Sherry, Buck, and Cindy!

Friends for decades and decades.

Still get together once or twice a month.

Still go on vacations and explore together.

A POSITIVE IN OUR LIFE TOGETHER ALL THESE YEARS!

LOL- some humor and smiles for the day!

PAPA’S WORLD –

My site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

June 25th. 1982 – MARRIED!

Papa’s World – My blogs – sharing life about family-friends!

Papa – on the streets in either Norway, Sweden, or Denmark!

Not sure, as this was maybe 20 years ago!

I write these blogs as a journal to read by future generations.

Instead of photo albums –

They will have these blogs.

We made this trip with her mother and sister.

A ten-day trip covering 1400 miles by bus!

Sherry’s grandmother was born in Sweden.

It was a whirlwind trip –

Exciting and memorable.

Wish I had been better at labeling the picture of who, what, and where!

Sherry and I are in a Moroccan restaurant in Morocco!

We made the trip with Buck and Cindy to Spain.

And then an airboat ride across the short distance to Africa and Morocco.

It was an experience – not sure I would ever do that again!

Spain was great –

But they took our passports on the way over to Morocco-

And would not give them back until we returned!

We had a guide, and she did not seem to know what to do about it!

While in Morocco –

Cindy and I rode these camels.

Best advice – HANG ON TIGHT as they get up and down.

When they get up –

You are almost face down as they use their back legs to rise up!

And when they lay down –

It is the reverse.

I can now say I rode a camel – but never again! LOL

My blog as a journal continues –

Here, I believe we were in a restaurant after finding our rental house in Malaga, Spain.

This was at the bottom of the long drive up to the house that overlooked a golf course-

And from the rooftop terrace-

We could see in the distance –

THE ROCK OF GILBRALTOR!

Interesting – our luggage did not land with us, and we had to go back the next day to claim it!

This was before GPS, and our phones would not work over there.

We had map quests printed out and navigated our entire trip that way.

It was crazy, but a wonderful trip in which we did over a thousand miles of exploring.

Here I am standing on a Roman bridge over a 400 to 1000-foot drop into a chasm in RHONDA SPAIN!

This span is a couple of thousand years old, and I wonder just how they built it that long ago?

We were way up in the mountains and eventually made our way to a bull-fighting arena-

That was also very, very old!

Memories for this blog all those years ago.

NOTE: WE LOST OUR CAMERA AND PHOTOS on the way home in Philadelphia at the airport!

These are pictures Cindy took and sent us!

The supplements of our choice!

Papa and Sherry in Sapin at a fountain.

Thanks for reading my blogs for family and friends for generations to come to read and see!

Today we live in retirement at Cameron Woods Community in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Our globe-trotting is likely over –

But our close friends Buck and Cindy live just 40 minutes away.

Thanks for reading!

As always – HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Papa’s World – Times with Family and Friends!

When Maddy and Ella played college soccer in Lynchburg, Va.-

Many times, we made trips there to watch them play.

Ella on the left and Maddy on the right during their pre-H.S. soccer days!

They both played on the same travel team when they were younger.

Both were midfielders.

In the picture on the right –

Ella in her uniform for Randolph College and Maddy in her uniform for The University of Lynchburg.

Both schools are in Lynchburg, VA.

Maddy is two years older than Ella-

And in this picture –

Both were captains for their teams.

We used to call Ella “tiny”!

But here she is, about 5’10 and Maddy 5’7!

Those are memorable years –

Times that are priceless to us.

Today – Maddy is an Environmental Specialist, and Ella is an Elementary teacher.

TIMES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

The youngest sister is Sarah –

On the right for her first day riding the bus and her first day of school.

On the left – graduating as a senior and today a Sophomore in College!

Here she is hugging her grandma, Sherry.

She has ended up as the tallest of the three girls.

Sherry is almost 5’10!

We do not know, as of now, what she will pursue in her career-

But she is very gifted as an artist and works many jobs to earn her way through school.

TIMES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Ella, Maddy, and Sarah.

Time gone by –

Memories to reflect back on.

PRICELESS!

We have had a core group of friends since just before we were married on 6-25-1982.

Jim – Dottie – Sherry – Papa – Cindy and Buck.

We try to get together every four to six months at each other’s homes.

Today we all live in the state of N.C.

So it makes it easier to travel to each other’s homes.

Friends are a priceless commodity.

All are now retired and living as seniors.

Sherry and Papa.

Living life one day at a time!

In order for us as seniors to get all the nutritional value of the above –

We take a supplement known as Juice Plus.

Every day, we take in powdered form those nutrients that go directly into the bloodstream-

And we have for twenty years.

Papa’s World – Senior living!

Sherry and Papa – our life in our senior years –

This is what we dreamed of doing all those years ago.

Trying to remain active – volunteering –

Walking – taking in events and staying in contact with family and friends.

We are well past retirement and in our final senior years.

We have close friends –

But we have always done things together.

I am not much into involving myself with others when not in the company of Sherry.

That is just who I am.

Sherry likes to be involved in lunches, crafts, and meet-ups with lady friends.

That is just fine with me.

I use my time to read –

Write my blogs and do chores around the house or outside.

Opposites attract!

We enjoy settling down in the late afternoon –

Eat dinner and then watch our favorite series together.

During the Turtle Season – we are volunteers for the Protection of Sea Turtles-

We are on the beach from mid-May to the beginning of October.

Here I am talking to tourists and explaining what we do and why we do it!

You can see the Turtle ramp that extends to the water.

This is for the baby sea turtles to make it into the water when they hatch.

Our jobs are to keep people back –

And from picking up the little turtles.

To educate folks on the survival of the little turtles.

Only one in a thousand survives to adulthood.

It is a magical moment to see them scurry to the water –

And keep the people back and the children so that they can see this moment in nature.

These times are now part of our senior lives together.

Sherry is on the back patio with Ella to the left and her mother, Debby!

Ella has graduated from college and is teaching elementary children in Va.

Here – we have a fire in our Solo Fire pit!

LOL – I like “PBR”!

And down here –

You can get a bottle for less than $3.00!!!!

Which is good for me!!! LOL

We decided over twenty years ago to find a supplement to help us as we aged into our “SENIOR” years.

We found it in Juice Plus –

I swear by it!

If this interests you –

Sherry is a distributor and has her own website.

There you can at no obligation –

See and read the research on what it proves to do.

I truly believe in this –

Having had 13 years ago –

Open heart surgery –

I will always take this as long as I live.

PAPA’S WORLD – My site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa’s World – Life near the beaches!

For nine months in the Pandemic year of 2020 to 2021-

We had this view from our living room and master bedroom –

At Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A fourth-floor condo with two elevators right outside our door!

This was a large lake with 780 condos-

Six swimming pools and tennis courts.

A workout area and a half-mile walk to the BEACH!

It was three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A kitchen, dining area, laundry, and living room.

The lanai was screened in and was across both the living room and the master bedroom.

A half-mile walk to NMB main street and all the entertainment and shopping!

BUT – although we loved it – we needed our own home with a garage and storage space.

The home we had built in Cameron Woods Community, some sixteen miles from the condo, but in N.C.

And the garage we wanted.

Here it is, full after we moved “STUFF” from our storage unit!

Later, we arranged everything –

It has overhead storage with a drop-down ladder and covered flooring!

However, after three years of moving Christmas storage tubs up and down the ladder –

We only store what we seldom use up there.

As seniors, it became more and more difficult to move stuff up and down the ladder!

For resale, it is a great selling point to have that additional storage!

But, hopefully, that is down the road.

Papa is at the entrance to our community.

From here, we have access to three beaches –

Plus two more –

Oak Island and North Myrtle Beach-

All within ten to forty-five minutes!

Our happy place is beach walking.

We can now do this every day if we want to.

Just driving over the two causeway bridges –

Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach –

We can be on the sand or walkways in ten to fifteen minutes.

Just sitting on the benches, smelling the salt air and listening to the sounds of the birds and surf.

THIS IS “LIFE NEAR THE BEACHES”!

It has been five years since we moved into our new home.

Today we have all the landscaping done –

We contract out the upkeep of the lawn –

Mowing – trimming – (I trim the bushes and trees)

Aerating and composting –

Weed and feed.

We sold all of our outdoor lawn maintenance when we sold our house in NVA!

We are happy living the dreams we have always had.

Maintaining our health as we age into Senior Living at the beach.

To help maintain the “EDGE” in retirement and senior aging and living-

We have taken these supplements for over twenty years.

Left to right-

Nutrients in powdered form – and Gummies if you have problems swallowing capsules!

Proven to go immediately into your bloodstream-

BERRIES – FRUITS – VEGETABLES –

And the Orange are OMEGAS –

Made from ALGAE and not Fish oil.

THIRTY fruits – berries and vegetables.

OMEGAS – 3,5,6,7 and 9!

I do not like the FISH taste of Omegas –

These taste like cream sicles if you bite into them.

If any of this interests you –

Sherry has been a distributor for over twenty years.

The following is her website-

No obligation – email and phone number included if you so choose to contact.

Or you can just order what you want in four-month supplies ( it takes over 90 days to change your cells!)

Sherry in the living room of our home in OIB.

We are both nearer to 80 than 70!

Still living our dream of being in the South and near the beaches.

Here we are – “FRIENDS” but all retired and all “SENIORS”!

In our world of being a “SENIOR”-

Sherry and I have many, many of what we consider “FRIENDS”!

Above – front to back –

Cindy and Buck!

Our neighbors in the late 80’s until they moved to N.C. in the mid 90’s.

But – we stayed in contact and visited back and forth –

Plus, we have traveled the world with them on vacations!

Today, we all live “THE LIFE IN SENIOR WORLD”!

Next is Ingrid and Les.

While we have not known Ingrid as long as Les-

He played softball with me back in Eldred in the mid – 70’s!

We have stayed in touch all these years and periodically see one another.

They are now full-time RV’ERS!

Every other year, they swing by to see us!

FRIENDS – BUT LIFE IN OUR SENIOR WORLD!

Next on the left side, Pam and Bob!

They have been married for 21 years.

Bob is my oldest friend.

We grew up together in Eldred, Pa.

Grade school and High School –

Sports and staying at each other’s homes.

Today they are resting in a rental near us after 6 1/2 years traveling the country in an RV!

They are trying to find out if they should sell their condo in N.H. –

And like this area, but also if 6 1/2 years of RVING is enough!

Time will tell –

But for now – FRIENDS IN SENIOR WORLD!

Debby – Jim and Dottie – Cindy – Sherry and Buck and Papa.

Close friends and now all retired seniors!

To have these friendships –

Jim and Dottie, I grew up in Eldred, Pa.

To have these friends is a blessing to us.

Debby is a friend of Jim and Dottie, and we have gotten to know her.

TRUE – LOL!!!!!

Good day, everyone – WELCOME to Papa’s World.

A place for positive writing!

This site is my journal on life for our family of generations to come-

To see who we are – where we have lived-

And how we were married in June of 1982 –

Combined two sets of children into the family we have today!

June 25th, 1982 – our wedding day!

Now, all those children are on their own with children of their own.

Someday, there will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We will be gone –

But this journal and the many blogs will show how we lived and what we lived for.

FAMILY – FRIENDS and positive writings to pass down to generations to come.

Our life together has traveled the road to where we have ended up-

Cameron Woods Community –

In Ocean Isle Beach!

Sherry – standing on Sunset Beach –

The other beach we are close to.

Sherry on our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic!

We were supposed to go to the Bahamas-

But the travel agency called and said the resort was under renovation!

They gave us a Jack Tar Village and all-inclusive as a second choice.

The first one was not all-inclusive.

We had such a good time, and it was the first time being out of the country for both of us.

LOL – that will never happen for me!

Our front porch –

A positive to us!

Hello everyone –

This is Papa and Sherry.

For the second time for both of us –

We were married on 6-25-1982!

Our wedding day all those years ago.

We keep the positives in our lives together.

Raising two sets of children –

And now we live near Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach in N.C.

We hit a lot of dirt paths in those early years.

We had no money, but we made do with what we had.

LOL – later – after the children were all gone –

We took up golf together.

Another positive in our lives.

Twenty years ago –

We came across a supplement that we both started taking to age healthily.

Today, we have never missed a day.

I have been using JUICE PLUS for over 20 years.

When I need to substitute a meal –

My go-to is the DURCH CHOCOLATE drink.

I take the powder one scoop-

Mix it with ice, water, and almond milk –

Put it in the blender, and it is like an unfrozen Wendy’s frozen drink.

Then with a piece of toast – that is my breakfast or lunch.

Now, they have produced a third flavor – STRAWBERRY!

And the other flavor is FRENCH VANILLA –

Which,

I sometimes add a teaspoon of peanut butter.

Papa’s World – The life we live!

Sherry and I have always lived our lives to protect the environment and help others when we can.

Almost everywhere we have lives –

We have planted “TREES”!

We live for our families, our church, and the life we have chosen in this turmoil in everyday life.

It makes me sad to see what is happening now in this world.

Life now is a road full of pitfalls.

But life to us is also full of volunteering –

Trying to help where we can.

About two miles from the Sunset Beach Pier toward the SE –

Sits a mailbox that has been there for over four decades!

This is a place of solitude-

A place to sit and gaze out over the ocean or over the dunes and marshlands.

“THE KINDRED SPIRIT MAILBOX,” as it is called.

A journal is placed within with a pen or pencil

You are encouraged to write –

Leave a message or just a thought!

It is monitored daily and removed and replaced when full.

Years and years worth of journals.

I am not sure, but I have heard they are preserved at a university.

After decades and decades, it is still there.

A peaceful setting still preserved, and our kind of thoughts –

This is what we live our lives for.

We choose our lifestyle –

One of hope and helping!

Not everyone understands this –

But we are what we are.

We are stronger together for this.

We all grew up in Eldred, Pa.

Cindy knew Jim and Dottie before we were introduced to her and her husband, Buck, by Dottie and Jim.

This was all in the early and mid-80s.

We raised our children together –

Took vacations and traveled the world together.

Today, we still meet up several times a year, and we live 38 miles from Cindy and Buck!

And H.S. cheer.

Papa’s World – Carolina living!

Papa at the entrance to our community!

Carolina living is now our home –

And the climate is a major factor in the “WHY” we moved here.

An early view from our front porch, soon after we moved in.

You can see the house directly across from us is still under construction!

A lot of the houses in and around us –

Are second homes!

We have nine close to us!

Which means we see the occupants maybe monthly!

Our lawn in the backyard butts up against a protective area and forest.

Which means no one will build there!

In landscaping, we have installed two Crepe Myrtles and three palm trees!

And extended the stone landscaping around the entire house.

We now have an enclosed lanai –

With a space heater, you can sit out there in the dead of winter.

Sherry has plants and flowers out there year-round.

We have the outdoor patio that has seating for four –

And room for a Solo Fire Pit and more seating!

The screened-in room has been fitted with material that makes it water and pollen-proof!

Sherry said in the beginning –

I WANT AN OFFICE FOR BOTH OF US!

Well – this is what we ended up with!

French glass doors to shut off the sound!

Also, we put a queen-sized blow-up mattress in here for grandkids and company if we have a lot of people!

It makes for an additional sleeping room with shades to cover the glass windows.

CAROINA LIVING!

Here is how we get all of the above each day!

Also, each day, building our IMMUNE systems.

Today, the stone landscaping goes all around the house!

My comfort zone on the front porch glider!

Overhead protection from most storms.

A sand maze in NMB!

We took the three youngest grandkids here –

So they could see and try to solve one of the two sand mazes on this beach.

In the middle is Bode trying to work his way through!

If you want to entertain your kids –

They will spend quite a long time trying to find the way through!

Just a small part of BEACH LIFE!

When we can not eat all those fruits and vegetables raw-

We are taking the nutrients every day that research shows go directly into the bloodstream!

For twenty years, we have followed this plan.

Each day we consume the nutrients of 30 fruits, berries, and vegetables.

Part of the BEACH LIFE –

Is kayaking the ICW onto the marshlands.

Here we are drinking some Fireball shots-

(Provided by another person)

While parking the Kayaks –

And standing on a sandbar with our dear friends Pam and Bob!

Yes – there were small crabs, but it was an experience!

ANOTHER PART OF BEACH LIFE!

Family comes to visit –

Standing on the grass before the marsh and the sunset –

On the church grounds on the island of OIB!

Part of BEACH LIFE!

Being so close –

We can make this an everyday walk if we so wish.

We have bought a parking pass for the last two seasons since they installed paid parking –

On both Sunset and Ocean Isle Beach.

All part of BEACH LIFE!

Now in our fourth season of volunteering for the Protection of Sea Turtles –

We are on the island almost every day from mid-May to mid-October.

This has ingrained us into community living on BEACH LIFE!

A little grill is the perfect place on the island to grab a coffee or tea and watch the boats come and go at the marina!

Papa’s World – The days in our life!

The days in our lives are filled with memories!

These two are my longest two friends –

Jimmy, who grew up in the same little town as I did-

Eldred, Pa.

We played softball together and worked together.

Buck – who knew Jimmy –

Lived across the street from us in Pleasant Acres Drive –

Portville, N.Y.

So, for decades and decades, we have remained friends along with our wives –

Sherry – Cindy and Dottie!

We try to get together three or four times a year.

Thus, they have become a part of the days of our lives.

Sherry is standing on the sidewalk in front of our home –

In Brambleton, Va.

Pointing at the blooms on the Crepe Myrtle that on my hands and knees –

I dug and planted along with two others!

Those were the times I still could get up and down from the ground! LOL

I have always loved Crepe Myrtles and had two put into the back yard here in Cameron Woods Community!

They have become PART OF the DAYS OF OUR LIVES!

Ronny Cox on the right –

Movie and TV star –

His first claim to fame was his role in Deliverance!

We hosted him overnight in our house in Brambleton, VA.

Before his performance, he sat with us for two hours at our breakfast table-

Telling us story after story about his career in over 150 movies and TV shows he had been on.

This was truly a PART OF THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES!

Building our IMMUNE systems has been a part of our lives for over twenty years!

Today is Sherry’s birthday!

Here we are pictured on 6-25-1982 –

The day we were married.

In all these years –

She has guided me and been my best friend.

Our life together has been a ride –

Ups and downs, but always steady.

She is the leader of the family – Called grandma by the older grandkids –

And “MORMOR” by the younger grandkids –

Which is Swedish for “MOTHERSMOTHER”!

Except for Sarah, who has adopted “MORMOR” from her younger cousins!

Sherry with Dottie, one of her oldest friends, after we were married.

And her husband Jim.

Sherry is a BILLS MAFIA FAN!

Sherry with Cindy – the second oldest friend since we were married.

July – 2024 – the week of the 4th.

Our family all stayed in a beach house to celebrate both of our 75th birthdays that year.

We have led our lives to this standard.

Here, the grandkids celebrate the 4th. with sparklers.

Anything more than that is not allowed on the island!

The island has a parade attended by thousands.

We all went, and our friend Jim invited us to use his side yard to park –

And set up chairs on the sidewalk in front of his home.

Here we are with Sherry’s sister and part of her family-

Standing in the side yard of Jim’s lot.

The whole week was excellent, and we hope to one day do it again.

All six of the grandkids on the beach.

Papa’s World – One day at a time-LIFE!

In 2013, I had a severe heart attack-

They rushed me to the heart hospital and put a stent in –

However, I needed three more!

The next day, they came into my room and told me they could not put them in!

Because where they were –

It would be too dangerous, and I might die! Therefore, I had to have open heart surgery –

And the three bypasses plus the stent they put in!

That was the day I started living my LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Today – I still view my life that way –

And I consider myself fortunate to be here.

Every day I count my blessings –

I am here to enjoy that day!

When the opportunity came to move South-

And be near beaches and golf –

Sunshine, sand, and surf-

We both agreed this was a dream we had and now would come true!

I still take this supplement every day –

I believe in it and have read the research.

Papa’s World – Looking around – LIFE!

Back in October 2020, we moved into a condo in Ocean Keyes, NMB, S.C.

Tammy and the three youngest grandkids were the first to visit us.

We were a half-mile walk through the development to the nearest beach entrance.

There were 780 condos here, and most were second homes or rentals.

Here, you see Sherry Bode and Cassidy walking to the beach.

It was a quiet walk, and the lake was to their left.

You could also walk directly to Main Street in North Myrtle Beach.

At night –

On our large screened-in lanai on the fourth floor overlooking the lake-

You could hear the music from the clubs on Main Street.

We spent nine months here, and it was a time I shall always remember –

It was like a nine-month vacation until our house was completed.

LOO)KING AROUND- LIFE!

OH to have this moment in time back – The twins and Bode!

When they were little before the pandemic, and they moved –

We had them at our home almost every day.

This is but one of those precious moments in time!

LOOKING AROUND – LIFE!

The view from the lanai at our fourth-floor condo in Ocean Keyes – NMB!

There were a total of six fountains – here you only see three.

This was an old golf course called the OLD GATOR HOLE!

Many great times we had in the nine months we leased here.

LOOKING AROUND – LIFE!

Taylor last year in her performance of SOMETHINGS ROTTEN!

She can play the violin, guitar, and Piano.

She has composed and sung several songs, and her favorite pastime is riding and caring for horses.

PAPA’S WORLD – LOOKING AROUND – LIFE!

Papa’s World – FAMILY GOOD TIMES!

Family has always been important to us.

Getting together – special events – vacations.

When we built our house –

We had this in mind.

To be sure, we had room for ten plus ourselves.

We pull out a single bed to a queen pull-out couch –

To blow up a queen mattress for the office –

Plus the couch – we have the room for twelve.

The downside is only two bathrooms –

Wish we had thought of that when selecting upgrades.

Everyone is here except Mike, Maddy, and Kendrick (Engaged to marry Maddy)!

Ella, Papa, Sarah, Sherry, and Debby!

The Myers family.

Cassidy, Bode, Sherry, Taylor, Tammy, and Marcus.

The Krohn family –

Family is important!

Tro, Andrea, Sherry, Trisha, Shawn, and Autum-

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT!

Relaxing on the beach –

The destination for family at the end of a long drive!

Our dream was to have all of this available when they visit, along with our friends!

CAUSEWAY 59 – one of our places to go and have coffee and tea while watching the boats at the marina!

Papa’s World – Humor – Fun and Good thoughts!

My GOOD THOUGHT for the day!

FUN is when you spend time with long-time friends!

Here – Buck and Cindy, Sherry, and I golf together!

For years and years, we played guys vs. gals.

But they got better, and we got worse, so we play a scramble with all four of us now!

But the most important part for me –

Is being together with friends for over four decades!

Friendships are important to us into our senior years.

FUN- HUMOR and GOOD THOUGHTS!

Papa and Sherry on one of our volunteer walks on the East end of Ocean Isle Beach for the Protection of Sea Turtles!

While we walk one mile each way, looking for any turtles crawled during the night to lay eggs-

We also pick up garbage along the way, and pictures are taken to document for the N.C. wildlife!

OUR GOOD THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

My good thought!

My family FUN picture –

This is Debby and Mike – the oldest daughter and her husband –

And their three daughters- L to R – Maddy – Environmental Science degree and working in that field, the oldest.

Then, Ella, who graduated with a degree in Physical Education for school children, is working in the school system.

And Sarah, the youngest, has just completed her freshman year of college.

This picture is their happy place for every year of their lives –

HUMOR – FUN and GOOD TIMES!

Ppa’s World – Growing old together.

June 25th. 1982 – our wedding day.

Now – 44 years have passed –

We truly are growing old together.

The years have passed, and today we live in N.C. at Cameron Woods Community, Ocean Isle Beach.

We decided to move South for a warmer climate –

Especially during the winter months.

The move was necessitated by the 2020 Pandemic-

The fall of the 401K’s and the increase in the housing market.

It worked out for us to sell our longtime retirement home –

Leave an expensive living area –

And settle near three beaches.

The selling of the home in NVA –

Allowed us to build in N.C. at a fraction of the price it would be in NVA!

We built this home for the family to visit –

Friends to gather –

And the climate that-

We would spend our senior years.

Our life here has changed us –

We now golf more –

Walk the beach –

And are involved in the Protection for Sea Turtles, now in our fourth season.

Here we are with the “TURTLE” group of volunteers –

We are the oldest here in this picture- 77 years old!

There are around 100 volunteers.

This day,

We volunteered to pick up trash in an assigned area of Ocean Isle Beach!

We have reseyt our lives down here.

Our granddaughter, Taylor, will be an intern in August for two weeks.

She reached out after remembering a presentation two years ago.

Those two weeks will be spent on all phases of the program, and we must accompany her at all times!

Taylor had her first date for homecoming as a Freshman.

She is as tall as Sherry –

And Tammy is about 5’6″.

She is an A+ student –

And has arranged most of this on her own.

Our life has been for the past twenty-plus years –

To age healthily into our senior years.

We have done this by taking a health supplement for all that time.

We are active for seniors.

We build our IMMUNE SYSTEMS and get nutrients from 30 fruits, vegetables, and berries –

Directly into the bloodstream, backed by over 40 research programs.

PAPA’S WORLD – GROWING OLD TOGETHER.

Papa’s World – Intentions – Kindness – Helping!

I guess growing up, I had some of those “WILD” moments –

Nothing serious – Sleeping out – campfire or sneaking a bottle of beer.

Raiding gardens – roaming the streets after curfew!

Just normal teenage stuff.

But my early years were formed by my grandma!

She had eleven children, and she was the kindest person I ever knew in my young life!

When I was born, her children had already left the nest and had their own families.

My grandfather was a big man – and he died before I was born.

From the stories passed down –

He, too, was filled with kindness.

He was a farmer and during the Depression –

He fed his neighbors from his farm.

Often carrying provisions to them.

He did not have to do this and had eleven children to support.

But – that is who he was.

My middle name, David, is after him.

I never knew him-

I only knew what he looked like from pictures.

My grandma was Pa. Dutch –

And he was descended from the Irish.

KINDNESS – I have always felt that to help one another –

To offer a hand and not expect any return –

Only THANKS!

That is why we volunteer so much.

Sherry is kind –

Always helping others.

Our life together is looking toward those we can help when we can.

Giving when we can –

It makes me sad to see what is happening to our country –

Our God is a just God –

Our religion follows the teachings of Jesus.

In church, we are quiet and sing the songs together.

Communion – praying for the world in general.

Either one of us is the one to express our joy in shouting –

But in silent prayer.

This is who we are –

We have Family, Church, Friends, and Community.

Our vow when we married on 6-25-1982 –

Was to love and cherish one another.

We have kept that vow all these years.

My mother was the same as her mother –

She and Grandma were so much alike.

Kind, gentle, and well-liked.

Grandma was 85 when she passed away –

And mom was almost 98 when she died.

My father died at 59 from cancer caused by smoking.

And his parents lived well into their 80’s and 90’s.

YES – I HAD SOME WILD TIMES GROWING UP!

But – really, only what a country boy experienced.

LIFE TOGETHER AND DREAMS!

Papa’s World – Memories from the past.

My late brother kept this article from the magazine in The Villages.

In his later years, before he passed away –

We would leave NVA and travel to Florida to his home in The Villages.

We would spend six to eight weeks with him as he was all alone.

He asked us numerous times to sell our home and move into his house with him.

We just could not do this at that time.

This picture was taken by a journalist who worked for the magazine while we were down there the previous winter.

He would show all his friends that his brother and sister-in-law made the “PRESS”! LOL

Many fond memories of the times we spent with him in his years after his wife passed away.

MEMORIES FROM THE PAST!

The two days we had continuous snow back in Brambleton, VA.

We lived just behind the Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C.

They recorded 48 inches in less than 48 hours!

Here is our enclosed patio, and the snow accumulated up past the windows!

We lived for 50 years in NWPA and WNY and never experienced anything like this.

We were supposed to leave for Florida to see my brother in a couple of days-

And we had to wait a week for the roads to be cleared.

And then it was only one lane in each direction!

It was pretty, but way too much!

MEMORIES FROM THE PAST!

Cindy – Sherry and Dottie – FRIENDS and best BUDS for decades and decades.

Along with Buck, Jim, and Papa.

All of them from back in NWPA and WNY, and always maintained these friendships over the years!

After retirement and into our senior years ( which we are now well into) –

We wanted to golf!

Not all the time –

But every couple of weeks.

We mostly golf with friends we have made or are long-time friends!

Now – today – living in Cameron Woods Community-

We are right in the middle of over 30 golf courses.

We mostly just play nine holes now –

Maybe dinner or just go home. MEMORIES FROM THE PAST and into the present.

On Sunset Beach – a mile and a half walk from the last entrance to the beach-

Sits a mailbox called THE KINDRED SPIRIT!

Placed here four or five decades ago-

By two hippies who carried everything down the beach to install!

Over the years, it has been replaced and modified into a memorial to those two peace-minded spirits!

A journal is left inside and a pen to write your thoughts, prayers, or whatever comes across you mind.

A peaceful place to sit and watch the waves come in or gaze out to sea or over your shoulder-

The marsh and Cherry Point are in the distance from North Myrtle Beach.

A place to gather your thoughts and think back to the two hippies who thought to place this here!

Many PAST MEMORIES are here in this place!

LOVE – ALWAYS THANKFUL!!!!!

Papa’s World – Just looking around!

We have had snow twice in the almost six years we have been in S.C. and N.C. –

And this is a picture of the sunset for the first time!

It was not much – maybe three inches, but with the sun –

Quickly turned to ice and was gone in five days!

This is the back yard –

This year, we had a freak storm cyclone –

That is what they called it, and it came right up the coast from the South.

They even had snow in Northern Florida!

FIFTEEN INCHES is what we got in twenty-four hours.

And the wind was terrible –

Causing it to drift in places to three feet!

I thought we had left this all behind in NVA and WNY!

We did not even own a snow shovel!

I DO NOT LIKE SNOW AND ICE!

This is my idea of winter in the Carolinas!

Dress warm, and when the sun comes out –

Remove layers as it gets warmer, and it does do that!

I can live with that!

Walking on the beach as long as it is not windy-

The sand STINGS your face.

On a walk at the OIB community center in February-

About 50 degrees in the sun, but felt warmer.

So far, we love the weather of the Carolinas!

On the island of OIB-

Free Friday night music concerts from the end of May to the end of September.

Here, the seating area is starting to fill up.

You can take your own food and drinks-

The drinks can not be in a glass!

The music is good and lasts about two hours.

AND, IT IS FREE!

Friday night concerts at OIB!

Other towns nearby have their own free concerts on different nights!

A favorite place for us to go and grab a coffee or tea is Causeway 59 –

Situated just after you exit the causeway bridge to OIB!

There are three restaurants here and a marina.

We sit here and watch the boats come in to refill or to eat at the restaurants.

This is all just off the ICW, which has access to the ocean.

Just a quiet little place and good food!

For enhanced IMMUNE systems.

Papa’s World – Some laughs and good thoughts!

My GOOD THOUGHT for the day!

We volunteer for the Protection of Sea Turtles on Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

For thousands of years, they were able to come onto the beaches and lay their eggs.

But the human population in America exploded, and along with it came “GARBAGE”!

Today, our oceans are full of plastics- bags- and the plastic that holds soda bottles and cans together.

The turtles mistake the plastic bags for jellyfish!

They attempt to eat it, but it blocks their intestines.

They starve to death.

The other plastics go around their mouths and prevent them from eating.

These are but a few ways the human population has interfered with Sea Turtles-

To the point that they are on the endangered species lists.

There is much, much more to all of this.

But we try to help by volunteering!

ONE CUP is all I have each day.

First thing in the morning!

I look forward to that each day.

MY GOOD THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

LOL – A little humor first thing in the morning along with my coffee!

I love to do this-

To make someone feel special and smile!

With my long-time friends –

Cindy and Buck are on our trip to Northern California.

We have traveled the world with them.

Neighbors and friends in the mid 90s-

On Pleasant Acres Drive- Portville, N.Y.

Today, we live about 38 miles from them.

We still get together.

LIFE TO US IS ALL ABOUT FRIENDSHIPS!

It seems we all have that favorite chair- couch –

A storage place for clothes! LOL!!

PAPA’S WORLD – LOOKING OUT FOR SUMMER!!!!!

Papa’s World – Our life at the beach!

Humor – keeps us going!!!

Our life revolves around living near the three beaches in our area.

However, so do friends, family, and GOLFING!

Here is Cindy and Papa!

Cindy and Buck were our neighbors back in WNY in the 90s.

They moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area and then to this golf course called Magnolia Greens-

Just outside Leland and about ten minutes to Wilmington.

We live 38 miles away in Cameron Woods, Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

We often get together to play golf –

See entertainment or just visit each other’s home.

We have remained in contact all these years and have traveled the world together.

Here we are on a par three and standing where our balls ended up on the drive.

Three weeks before this –

Cindy had a hole-in-one here!

Over thirty years ago –

I had a hole-in-one at Saint Bonaventure golf course.

I had hit first and got it close, but she really put it tight to the hole!

Birdies for both of us!

BEACH LIFE – FRIENDS and GOLFING!

The entrance to OIB at the community center.

We often come here in the off-season-

We purchase a pier parking pass for the season-

Or if we come here in season –

You now have to pay to park.

There are bathrooms here –

And a volleyball court for sand volleyball!

From mid May to mid-October –

We spend almost every day on the beach –

As part of THE PROTECTION FOR SEA TURTLES!

This is our fourth season of being volunteers.

This has become a big part of our BEACH LIFE!

Marcus – TAYLOR and Tammy!

Taylor has applied and been accepted as an INTERN this summer for two weeks –

For the Protection of Sea Turtles –

She did this all on her own and will be spending two weeks with us in August.

One or both of us must be with her at all times.

This past year, she tried out as a Freshman –

And made the JV basketball team.

Then, in the Spring,

She tried out and made the JV soccer team.

Since she was just walking,

She had a love of horses!

Now today she rides and works at the horse barn.

She is very tall – almost as tall as Sherry.

She has a way with animals –

Training their Goldendoodle – Marley –

All kinds of tricks.

For two weeks, she will become part of our daily BEACH LIFE!

Friends are part of our BEACH LIFE!

Here is Bob (my grade school buddy)-

And Pam – his wife – Sherry and Diane, our neighbor who has a summer cottage in Rushford Lake back in WNY!

This is near where we raised our kids in the Olean-Portville area.

BEACH LIFE INCLUDES THEM!

Healthy living and building our IMMUNE SYSTEMS –

Has been part of our life for over twenty years.

Today, we age as healthily as we can in our senior years.

PAPA’S WORLD – BEACH LIFE!!!!!!

Papa’s World – Health is our goal.

Twenty plus years ago –

Sherry and I started on a journey to age as healthily as we could into and through our senior years.

This brought a new diet and an awareness of not eating certain foods and drinks!

For me – I GAVE UP MILK! ( I drank a lot of milk since I was a toddler)

Along with that – SODA’S!

I also drank a lot of them since I was a teenager.

Then I cut way back on dairy and meats.

Red meat, I seldom have –

Instead, I eat chicken, pork, and fish in moderate amounts.

I try not to eat deep-fried.

And I cut way down on sweets –

Milk chocolate is my downfall!

But other candy, cakes, and pies –

I seldom eat those.

Sherry is my source of information and keeps an eye on me.

I do not like hard liquor or wine.

I will drink a glass of beer every couple of weeks.

I drink mostly ice water.

I am not a prude, but a SENIOR!

And I recognize I am not up to all that as I used to be!

As a SENIOR, you have more aches and pains –

You require rest but also a form of exercise.

Mine is walking!

Recently, we took our daughter and two granddaughters to Saint Augustine.

In the four days there –

I walked 7000 plus steps a day.

I also know when to get off my feet if only for a couple of minutes.

Taking short rests helps me with a problem I have with my right leg.

Just knowing I will be okay and just keep going with short rests is all part of my senior years.

TRUE – but I KEEP TRYING!!!!!

Sherry – THE GOOD WITCH – and “JUST TOM”!

I used to dress up for Halloween –

But I am okay with going as “JUST TOM”!

Living life one day at a time –

Is good enough for me.

PAPA talking to two tourists after helping to make the runway path for –

THE PROTECTION OF SEA TURTLES on Ocean Isle Beach.

Here, I explain as best I can the “WHY” of being a volunteer for this organization.

We are now into our fourth season of volunteering.

This means from mid-May to mid-October-

Almost every day on the beach!

This gives us a purpose in our senior years and a goal to get out and walk every day.

Senior living one day at a time.

Plus as you get older –

Communicating with others is important-

Keeping your mind as sharp as you can.

Taking trips with old friends.

Meeting up with old friends!

Keeping a balanced lifestyle.

Always looking to reset yourselves.

For twenty-plus years –

Our supplement of choice –

Has been Juice Plus.

Thirty Fruits – Vegetables and Berries.

The nutrients of all of these are put into gummies and capsules.

Every day, getting the nutrients we need for a healthy senior lifestyle.

I have not missed a single day in over twenty years.

Papa’s World – Four seasons-life in the Carolinas.

Welcome to PAPA’S WORLD!

Moving to the South –

First in 1999 to NVA-

While it was a bit warmer-

We still had lots of ICE AND SNOW!

This was one of the major snowstorms we had while living in NVA!

Truth be –

We had more snow in storms there than in the entire 50 years we lived in WNY and NWPA!

We lived just behind the DULLES AIRPORT –

And they recorded 48 inches of snow in two days!

So – when the Pandemic hit –

The 401K dropped, and the housing market took off!

In 2020 – WE SOLD –

And moved temporarily to North Myrtle Beach!

We leased a condo for nine months until our new home was completed-

In Cameron Woods Community, N.C.

Just seven miles from the S.C. border in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

We are near two beaches, and twice in five years we have experienced snow for a day!

But – most of the time it is warm – bright sunshine- breezy –

And comfortable to walk, and if too hot-

Head for the beaches and breezes.

Here is OIB and the bridge to the beach –

The same can be said for Sunset Beach and Holden Beach.

We are close to all three.

We also walk the beaches in the Winter months as long as it is not windy.

The sand stings your face when the wind blows hard.

There are times in the Winter months – Spring and Fall –

That we golf with friends.

The four seasons here allow us, at times, to do just that!

I can say that we have found our forever home and area to live in.

At least it works for us.

Staying healthy in our advancing senior years.

SENIOR LIVING – It seems that later in life,

The “COUCH” gets more inviting as the day goes by! LOL

We have calendars –

To keep track of appointments-

Volunteer work –

Errands and shopping.

Meet-ups with friends –

“How did we ever find time to work”?

The children you raised have moved on!

The grandkids are also ready to take flight-

Be it sports, activities, jobs, or everyday life.

You become a source of –

“How are you? When can we see you?

Then the vacations come and go –

That “COUCH” becomes more comfortable.

I drink my coffee early in the morning –

One cup –

Before dawn.

I read the online newspaper –

I do not watch or listen to cable news.

Facebook – I unfollow those who try to change your minds –

With endless postings.

Being a senior, life becomes too short to listen to all the nonsense.

I am registered as INDEPENDENT!

I cast my vote and then move on.

LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DWELL ON WHAT YOU CAN NOT CHANGE, OTHER THAN VOTING!

Being a SENIOR –

We try to give back as much as we can.

Helping others –

Less fortunate.

VOLUNTEERING –

Church – family and friends.

SENIOR LIVING –

Near the beach – playing some golf –

And that couch when watching TV together-

Until early bedtime.

It all starts over for me before the dawn of the day.

Papa’s World – Our life near the beaches!

Sitting on our front porch!

One of the criteria I wanted –

Was a place to sit in the shade all day long.

So – we got it with this front porch!

This was in July 2021 when we moved in, and you can see the home directly across the street-

Was not completed yet!

We were one of the first to move into this section of the development.

Perhaps halfway through the total process, which took a couple more years to finish.

So, we pretty much watched the construction of more than half the development.

As of now, two lots remain –

Both on either side of the model and they are working on completing them.

Our community is just a couple of miles as the crow flies from the beaches of –

Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach!

LOL – maybe some truth in this!!!!

We are also thirty minutes from North Myrtle Beach, Holden Beach, and Oak Island Beach.

So, we are in the mix as to going to a different beach if we want!

It is here where we spend most of our time –

This is a view of the patio out back with a SOLO FIRE PIT!

I am not much into fire pits, but we do use them when family comes to stay.

We have now furnished this patio –

And replaced the screens on the lanai with EZEE BREEZE-

Water and pollen can not come in!

Sitting in the lanai during a rainstorm is comforting!

But – it also has a lot of sun back here, so I prefer the covered front porch and the glider!

We back up against a protected wildlife site with very tall trees.

Oak and pine.

This will not be cut down and is full of birds.

We have landscaped the yard –

Planting palm trees and crepe myrtles.

The edging is full of stones to prevent weeds.

This extends to all around the house.

This is now the view of the front porch – glider where I sit-

And the stones inside the edging!

It is here that I can sit in the shade and watch the folks go by, walking or driving.

The crepe myrtle and the stones –

Before the stones replaced the mulch completely around the house.

All the landscaping is complete.

Today, we drive ten minutes, park, we have a season pass, and walk on the beach.

We don’t go into the water to swim –

We are seniors and, beyond that,

Youthfully exercise.

But we do walk in the surf!

From the air –

OCEAN ISLE BEACH – the bottom is where we have a parking pass.

We are blessed in our senior years to live near here.

A dream we both had all our lives.

Here we are in the park before you cross over the causeway to SUNSET BEACH –

And along the ICW!

Summertime, we come here to sit under the huge live oak trees in the shade.

We people watch and also the boats going up and down the ICW!

We also go over the causeway bridge to Sunset Beach and walk the beach.

WE ARE LIVING OUR LIFE NEAR THE BEACHES!

SENIORS – RETIREMENT – BEACHES and GOLF!

Papa’s World – FORTY FOUR YEARS – time flys!

June 25th. 1982- on our wedding day.

Our life together started with two sets of children.

This was the second marriage for both of us.

Sherry had two young daughters –

Debby – the oldest – is 7 or 8 years old.

And Tammy is 4 years old.

My two boys were Troy – the oldest – 14 or 15 years old –

And the youngest – Shawn – is 9 or 10 years old.

The boys stayed with their mother while the girls stayed with Sherry.

We lived way up at the end of the East Windfall Road.

About ten miles to the school and just over the hill from Olean, N.Y.

But we were in the far corner of the Portville school district.

The driveway was 1/10th of a mile long.

Good for sled riding in the winter –

But the rest of the time, I had to mow it up and down both sides.

That first year was with a gas push mower, and then we bought a ride mower.

All told, over an acre of lawn to mow, up and down, and part on a side hill.

That first year- it would take me three days – rest one day –

And start over again.

Way up back – we had a fire pit.

There were only two neighbors –

One we could see across the valley and hill-

And one at the very end of the driveway.

There was another family up the hill out of sight-

They had a couple of children who were friends of the girls.

Other than that, country living.

Any events or church –

Was at least a ten-mile drive.

The girls became involved in sports, and I would pick up the boys every other weekend.

Which was a 18 mile drive one way.

Money was scarce-

So we planned day outings to parks – state parks –

Packing food –

Looking back, we did not seem to care that we had no money –

We made the best of everything!

We were busy with work, the kids, church, and the church youth group.

All four were in the youth group.

We took camping trips with the youth group.

A canoe trip down the Alleghany River –

The boys went, but the girls did not go.

Church became a big part of our lives.

Many activities for us as a family since the divorce-

We had each other, and to this day-

We still have church in our lives and each other.

We lived out in the country for about five years.

But – we yearned to get closer to the church and the school and to my sons.

We found a house in Pleasant Acres Drive just three miles from the school.

We were still in the Portville school district.

We were also about three miles from the church.

My oldest son had graduated from high school.

But we still did things as a family with my youngest son.

Here is where we met our decades-old friends –

The McBrides – Buck and Cindy!

Cindy, Buck, Sherry, and Papa.

We were neighbors until mid 90s, they moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area.

We stayed in touch –

We visited them in N.C. several times.

Then we started touring the country with them.

Eventually out of the country.

During these times and after –

We transferred to NVA!

The kids had all graduated and from college.

We were empty nesters.

Within two years –

Both girls had followed us to NVA.

The boys stayed in NWPA.

Debby had married, and they had Maddy –

Less than a year old.

They all stayed with us until they found their own homes.

We still visited Buck and Cindy and were still friends with Dottie and Jim

Both from Eldred and I had known them before Sherry.

To the left- Debbie, a friend of Jim and Dottie.

Then Cindy and Sherry- Buck and Papa.

Cindy and Buck knew Jim and Dottie before us.

But I grew up with Jim and Dottie in Eldred, Pa.

Jim and Dottie met Debbie after they moved to Va. Beach area.

Sherry – Jim and I all worked for American Olean Tile-Dal Tile.

We are all still to this day –

Get together at one anothers homes.

Jim and Dottie have since retired and moved to the northeastern coast of N.C.

FRIENDSHIPS that have lasted for decades.

Papa’s World – A birthday wish for “CINDY”!

Papa, Buck, Cindy, and Sherry on one of our many golfing adventures!

Back in the late 80s and into the mid 90s-

We were neighbors on Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

They moved to the Wilmington, N.C., area and eventually to Magnolia Greens just outside Leland, N.C.

We have remained friends and in touch all these years!

In these years, we also moved to the NVA area and retired there.

The Pandemic came, and we sold our home and moved to Cameron Woods Community, about 35 miles from them.

In all these years, we traveled the World with them on vacations!

Here we are at a brewery just outside Asheville, N.C.

Sharing a laugh!

Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Canada, and all over the USA!

Laughing – golfing (OHAU) –

The Redwoods in California –

And exploring San Francisco,

Reno and walking the streets of Philadelphia.

So many memories!

On one of our golf scrambles!

We try to get together as often as we can to golf.

It is always a fun time!

The times we have spent together and all the laughs.

Friends for decades and decades!

TODAY IS A SPECIAL DAY FOR CINDY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR FRIEND!

May the sun rise and set on this day –

Love,

Appreciation – laughter – toasting –

Another chapter in your life begins.

We are truly fond of all our good times –

I KNOW THERE IS ANOTHER HOLE IN ONE IN YOUR FUTURE –

I hope I am there to see it!

ALMOST for you, dear friend!

Until we golf again –

Until we see another show-

Until we sit down and have a toast-

Until another laugh and a hug-

LOL-W HAT LANDLINE???? LOL!!!!!

We have not had a landline in twenty years!

But- I do remember when I was younger –

WE HAD A PARTY LINE!

Growing up in WPA in the little town of Eldred, Pa.

The phone – if you picked it up-

You just might hear someone talking!

That was the “PARTY LINE”!

I still remember my parents’ home phone number and my sisters who lived right next door!

GENERATIONS – FAMILY and FRIENDS!

Papa- Sherry, Cindy, and Buck.

This is on one of our trips we took together.

We went to Asheville, N.C. –

And we visited the SIERRA NEVEDA BREWERY and TAPROOM!

Here we went on a tour of the Brewery –

Had a beer tasting and ended up in the restaurant on site for a drink and some food.

It was a first for us to see the process of brewing a national beer from the beginning to the end.

FRIENDS – very important for us.

The list of brews on tap at the brewery!

Sherry and Cindy are on a tour of the brewery.

I would go back someday just to see if any changes were made.

The next part of our GENERATIONS –

Is our Family!

The Myers –

Our daughter Debby –

Her husband Mike –

Sarah, Ella, Maddy, and her boyfriend, Kendrick.

Debby is the oldest daughter, and the three girls are the oldest grandchildren.

FAMILY is very important to us.

We spend time back and forth-

And they come to see us!

We often meet the youngest grandchildren halfway.

Here, we are dropping them off for their parents half way.

Cassidy, Bode, Sherry, Papa, and Taylor!

Taylor will come down for two weeks and be an intern-

For the Protection of Sea Turtles at OIB!

She remembered a presentation about the program two years ago.

Called Sherry and wanted an application!

All on her own!

She filled it out and also sent her grades as a Freshman in H.S. which was required.

Her lowest grade was a B+ – the rest were A+ or A.

The one condition is that we have to be with her 100% of the time when she is involved!

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT TO US!

Marcus – Bode and Tammy –

Our youngest daughter.

It will be strange during those two weeks not having the other two here with us.

Papa’s World – A day in the life of a SENIOR!

As we neared our early beginnings of “SENIOR” life –

We did the research and selected a supplement to check off all the requirements –

Of a Healthy Lifestyle.

That was over twenty years ago!

We needed to get more fruits, vegetables, and berries into our diets!

That to us was a hard thing to do –

Being a SENIOR, you just do not consume food as much as you used to!

Our lives changed in those early years.

We became more health-conscious.

Walking for me and running for Sherry!

Our research led us to a Supplement that crossed the “T’S” –

And “DOTTED” the “I’S”.

Juice Plus had all the research published in Journals on health.

Proving to do what was claimed.

It was easy to add to our busy lifestyles as SENIORS!

There were CAPSULES – 30 nutrients in a capsule that went immediately into the bloodstream.

There were GUMMIES – Fruit – Vegetable and Berries –

That you ate and did the same as the CAPSULES!

And then there were several drinks –

FRENCH VANILLA – DUTCH CHOCOLATE and the above SUPER POWER!

All tasted good and became for me –

A way to curb my appetite while getting the NUTRIENTS into my bloodstream.

We have continued this supplement for over twenty years.

Taking it with us wherever we travel in the world.

It has become a staple in our SENIOR YEARS of living.

Volunteering – The Protection of Sea Turtles –

From mid-May to early October each year.

We are now in our fourth season.

Our seniors’ lives are active –

And to have a source of Nutrients to take every day –

Has become a staple in our lives!

Today – I am 77 years old – Sherry will be 77 years old.

We choose the senior lifestyle of health and nutrition –

On the beach for our 75th birthdays in 2024.

Living life to the plus –

One day at a time.

SENIOR LIVING – STAYING HEALTHY.

If you want to try this as we did over twenty years ago-

Papa’s World – Adventures from the past.

Yes – I consider the above statement to be TRUE!

Our lives together –

Have been full of raising children, buying and selling houses-

Living in five states, including childhood.

Working for one Company for a combined 79 1/2 years.

Volunteering wherever we have lived.

Living our dream now near beaches, golf, and warm weather!

It has been a gift that we are blessed to have had this life.

The twin granddaughters –

When they were little –

Cassidy and Taylor.

In the early years, we had them all the time while the parents worked until school.

I would wish upon a star to reclaim some of these times –

To once more have them little in our life again.

Today, they have grown up –

Freshmen in H.S.

Taylor – Cassidy and their mother, Tammy.

The Swedish genes from Sherry –

Run in the family!

Adventures from the past!

The night Ella played against Maddy in college soccer.

Both were captains for their teams.

A memory I shall always cherish.

We followed both of them from travel league to H.S. to college soccer for so many years!

Sarah – now a Freshman at college.

The youngest of the three oldest granddaughters.

So artistic – so outgoing and full of laughter and humor.

She is a gift to us.

ADVENTURES FROM THE PAST!

BODE – The only grandson in the family with five granddaughters.

Papa’s World – For Generations- past and future!

In my blog today, I hope to share the past for the Generations who are to follow!

We blended two families back on 6-25-1982!

My family is almost all gone from the ones I grew up.

The family photos were all destroyed by someone outside the family!

That leaves me with capturing everything present and what I sometimes find from other folks regarding my own family!

So – these blogs are JOURNALS –

Full of pictures, stories, facts, and places and people.

THIS IS FOR GENERATIONS – THE PAST TO THE FUTURE!

Years ago, when they were still growing up-

Bode – Cassidy – Taylor – Sarah – Ella and Maddy –

All six grandchildren!

This was at the Museum in Winchester, Va.

This is an actual Native American Canoe.

Today, ELLA and MADDY have graduated from college.

Sarah is a freshman in college.

Cassidy and Taylor are freshmen in H.S.

And Bode is going into Middle School.

Today – all six together at Mike and Debby’s home for pictures.

This is at Lake Holiday, Va.

This generation will produce the generations to come in the future.

This blog will help those to come to understand who we were.

THIS IS FOR GENERATIONS – THE PAST TO THE FUTURE!

Where we live close by –

An aerial view of the town park of Ocean Isle Beach, and an outdoor concert!

Free to the public from mid-May to the beginning of October.

First class bands with the Carolina Beach Music on the East Coast.

The other towns around us have the same, only on different days!

One of the perks of living here on the borders of S.C and N.C.

Group picture of the two families and us celebrating our 75th. birthdays at the beach in 2024.

This was our dream when we moved to the coast of N.C and S.C to have family visit.

This picture is –

THIS GENERATION FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE GENERATIONS!

Sherry and my motto for life.

Caring – giving – volunteering and maintaining friendships.

This is our own generation.

What we have passed on to our generation of children and grandchildren.

Ella – when she was younger – running in the APPLE BLOSUM YOUTH RACE –

In Winchester, VA.

She would later go on to play soccer at Randolph College –

Becoming captain in her Sophomore year, before an injury in the final two years.

She carried on – playing part-time because of the injury.

But the little girl here –

Was the little girl who could and did make an impact on her college team.

THIS GENERATION FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE GENERATIONS!

Sarah, Ella, and Maddy.

The three 9oldest granddaughters.

The heirs of future Generations to come.

Papa’s World – Cold – Winter – PUZZLE TIME!

This past Winter, we had a major N.E. snow cyclone!

It started around 6:30 PM, and 15 inches later –

There it was!

This was RARE for this area –

Maybe once in 30 to 40 years!

But at least there was very little ice!

Since we do not own a snow shovel –

I used my leaf blower –

The snow was powder-like-

And after hours –

I cleared a path to the street for our car, which we backed into the garage.

And the sun came out, and the melt started right away.

We had strong winds during the storm, which came up the East Coast from the S.W.!

Parts of the grass were wind-swept bare –

And parts had two to three foot “DRIFTS” –

The driveway was part of those drifts!

Then my good friend “JIM” showed up with a snow shovel, and we cleaned the other half rather quickly.

Sherry concentrated on the end of the driveway, where melted snow turned to ice –

And clogged the drain to the street run off!

She freed that up as Jim, and I cleared the driveway.

By the end of the second day of sunshine-

The driveway and road were clear and free of snow and ice.

The hot sun – although maybe only 45 to 50 degrees outside –

The major difference is living here in the South.

Everything melts away within four to five days!

But – a side result of all this –

ARE PUZZLES!

I groan from the inside as Sherry finds them from the closets, cupboards, or thrift stores!

Here is the kicker-

I FIND MYSELF CONSTANTLY HOVERING AROUND THE TABLE, FINDING MATCHES!

It becomes addictive for me! LOL

Even finishing one up – breaking it apart-

Reboxing and dumping the new one out!

Finding the edges – and turning all those 300 pieces over.

And then, as habit is –

Sorting them out and separating them into colors and like pieces!

I AM OBSESIVE!

That is why I GROANED INSIDE when she put the first one out!

Some pieces are much like this! LOL-LOL-LOL!!!!

But – I must admit – it is good for the brain –

And something to do during the cold outside!

It is far from the snow we had back in NVA!

There, it took months to melt.

Less than a week later, the melt is complete.

Our plant sits on the inside window ledge-

Absorbing the sunshine from outdoors.

We are back to normal after a rare Northeastern snow blast cyclone that occurred mostly near the shoreline.

LOL – However – I think there is a lot of “TRUTH” in this – Esp. for me!

Golfing for me is I hit that “ONE” shot that brings me back again and again.

I feel I am successful if I can hit my drives!

The feeling of connecting and seeing the flight of the ball down the middle-

Leaves me feeling good and ready for the next shot!

Par five – dog leg left over the pond to the green

An exceptional hole for me –

I am here in two-

My next shot ended up just to the fringe of the green to the right!

A rolled up chip shot and I putted for a par!

This does not happen often for me –

Most likely would have been a bogey or worse.

BUT – it is this part of golfing that brings me back time after time!

A NEW DAY WITH PAST MEMORIES!

Back in Brambleton at our home-

Every Easter we had an Easter Egg hunt for the grandkids!

Here – Bode is less than a year old, and now he is 11.

And Taylor and Cassidy are Freshmen in H.S.

Today – missing from the group photo is Ella –

Papa’s World – Life in the SLOW LANE!

LOL – Yes – those early years are long gone!

Today, it is for us “THE MIDDLE LANE” for traveling!

To say the least, we hate traveling the I95 North to South corridor.

But – since we live on the borders of N.C. and S.C. –

And as far East and the seaboard as we can get-

It is a must route unless you are willing to add maybe three hours to your trip!

I mostly stay in the middle lane for a couple of reasons.

Ingress and Egress in the far right lane –

Makes it dangerous for me when traffic comes barreling onto the highway.

Plus, it seems this is where all the large trucks are, and I can not see beyond them.

So I stay in the middle lane and set my cruise control to 3 to 4 miles over the speed limit.

Maintaining that speed so traffic can pass me on the right or left.

If I see a long line behind me, I will move over –

But it seems like when I do that – next thing I know, someone is attempting to gain access onto my lane and brake time is applied!

So for the most part, I stay in the middle.

Being well into my SENIOR YEARS –

Going “FAST” is not an option for me.

I am not comfortable going with the “FLOW” sometimes 10 to 15 MPH over the speed limit!

Being older, my reactions are not what they used to be.

People are aggressive at those speeds –

And I have seen too many near misses or accidents that have happened.

THUS – I AM PART OF LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE and comfortable being here.

SENIOR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY! LOL

We run errands –

Be it appointments –

Shopping – I love going to the OUTLET MALL-

There is a Starbucks there .

An area outside where artificial grass, chairs, and palm trees –

A place to sip and watch people and guard Sherry’s ICE TEA!

She comes back every so often –

Sometimes with a package –

Takes a sip of tea and off again to one of the stores.

Me – I still am sipping that coffee from STARBUCKS!

AGAIN – LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE FOR ME!

Ocean Isle Beach Causeway Bridge!

We live on the mainland close to this bridge.

In ten minutes, we will cross the bridge.

Our lives changed when we moved South.

We left friends and family behind.

Some friends have since moved down near us.

Family has been to visit numerous times, and we have made the trip back to see them often.

Which, before we sold our house, we said we would do.

The trip back up I95 is not one I cherish.

So we try to stay off it as much as we can.

But this area –

Close to three beaches, stores, and entertainment –

Is suited for us.

In the five years we have lived near here-

We have experienced two snow and ice storms.

Very rare for this area.

We have experienced one hurricane – Category 1!

I have doubts if we will stay for 2 or 3!

Time will tell.

But the sun and blue skies –

The warm weather –

The golf is just across the road, and there are 30 other courses nearby.

Entertainment – shows and acts –

Is just thirty to sixty minutes away.

Sipping coffee and tea on the ICW –

Volunteering for The Protection of Sea Turtles each summer.

Live bands are in concerts all around us for the summer months.

Festivals in the other months of the year.

The three youngest grandkids love to come and spend time with PAPA and MORMOR!

The three oldest have been here also.

Their lives have changed.

Two have graduated from college, and the youngest is in her first year of college.

But the bonds remain there.

My two sons and their families have been to visit us.

It is a long 16-hour drive for them.

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT TO US!

We now have past friends living five to forty-five minutes away.

Others, a couple of hours.

We get together and continue those friendships.

FRIENDS ARE IMPORTANT TO US!

In retirement, we have no schedule.

An afternoon sitting in the shade of Sunset Beach Park –

Reading and watching the boats traveling up and down the ICW!

Our dreams have come true in our senior years.

An early morning coffee and tea at the OIB marina-

And 59 Causeway bar and grill.

Watching the boats come in or just relaxing!

This is our life now.

We have this little spot we go to for coffee and tea and sometimes food!

It is right across the OIB Causeway bridge!

The name is “59 CAUSEWAY GRILL” and sits right on the water of the boat marina!

Inside is a small bar area,

And we have noticed this to be a meeting place for the locals!

While here for breakfast one morning prior to a storm front moving in –

About 6 or 7 couples filtered in.

They seemed to all know each other and the bartender!

It was close to noon, and they all ordered drinks!

The conversations were lively and interesting.

The Causeway Bridge to Ocean Isle Beach.

59 Causeway Grill – the first turn to the left –

Turn left as soon as you enter the road and pass the Gas-Station Store – “SHEFFIELDS” –

Then right into the parking area, and you have arrived!

Beyond 59 Causeway Grill is “SHARKEYS BAR AND RESTAURANT” –

And then OBI FISH COMPANY bar and restaurant.

All three are good local places to eat and drink!

Sherry is inside the dining area next to the bar-

Talking with the bartender before the crowd came in.

He was seated on a bar chair, eating his lunch.

He was familiar with the areas we had lived in WNY and NVA!

Most of the folks down here are transplants from other areas, and we find a lot of people who know the area –

Where we are from.

The glider and sign on our front covered porch!

The sun is setting –

Our neighborhood is quiet-

Once again, we had ventured to the island –

Had breakfast-lunch at 59 Causeway Grill!

He was Irish-English –

He would help feed his neighbors from his farm.

He passed away before I was born,

But my middle name is David after him.

My mother was the second youngest.

I think this was late 2020 or early 2021!

Today – it is in my opinion-

One of the nicest Community Centers in these developments!

Two pickleball courts.

A fully stocked workout room. Two large bathrooms – women’s and men’s.

A fully usable kitchen –

A large screened-in room with a half dozen teak tables and chairs.

A six person dinning room table and a countertop off the kitchen with two high-back chairs.

Two sitting areas with comfy chairs – couch and fireplace with tv over the mantle.

A small library in the sitting room.

Two entrances from the main building out to the pool, with a third from the screened-in room.

The pool area is completely fenced in –

Two outdoor showers – and a circular step down into the water with shallow water before setting down into the pool.

The deepest part is about five feet.

A large parking lot with numerous mailboxes and a large manicured lawn.

It is a big draw for resales of houses.

PAPA’S WORLD – MEMORIES REVISITED!

SUBSCRIBE – IT IS ALL FREE!

Papa’s World – May 7th. 1949 – 77 years – ME!

I was born in Olean, N.Y., at Saint Francis Hospital.

I had a sister, 15 years old at the time, and a brother, 10 years old at the time.

My mother’s mother lived with us.

Grandma took care of me as both my parents worked.

My earliest memory is sitting on her lap on the front porch-

And seeing a neighborhood young boy across the street-

On his way walking to school!

I asked her when I could go to school, and she said in two years.

That would make me about four years old!

My younger brother was born about four years later.

Today I turn 77 years old –

And I think back to, “Where did the time go?”

Yet, I have no regrets as I feel blessed to have experienced all that my life offered.

The first 30 years I spent living in a small town in NWPA –

Near the border of WNY –

In what is called ELDRED, PA.

At 18 –

One week after I graduated from H.S.-

I started work at AMERICAN OLEAN TILE –

Across the border in Olean, N.Y.

And – 47 1/2 years later –

Retired from the same company, now called DAL-TILE!

After transferring in 1999 to NVA –

Working at six different locations –

I ended up in Dulles- Chantilly –

At the Slab yard – Sales Service Center warehouse.

I wore many hats during those 47 1/2 years.

I also met Sherry at the Olean Factory –

She was in Payroll, and I was in shipping.

That was around mid 1980 –

That we began to date after she went through a divorce-

And I did too!

We were married on June 25th. 1982!

That was almost 44 years ago!

My two sons still live back in that area –

And her two daughters live in NVA!

We now live in Ocean Isle Beach in N.C.-

Near the border of S.C.

We moved during the Pandemic –

Form here in NVA –

To North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

We eventually had a house built in Cameron Woods Community-

Ocean Isle Beach on the mainland in N.C.

The Pandemic changed our lives –

We sold our home after 14 1/2 years –

It went way up in value as the 401K dropped.

We said our goodbyes –

Loaded our car and left for the South.

Warmer weather –

And live out our senior years.

Our health was a big factor these past Twenty Years!

So we did the research – read the published studies and decided to take a supplement!

And now have for TWENTY YEARS!

Over the past TWENTY YEARS –

PAPA’S WORLD – MAY 7TH. 1949 – 77 YEARS – ME!

Papa’s World – Memories of good times!

Sherry at the BILTMORE ESTATE on one of our trips.

We have been here twice and want to visit during the holiday season to see the decorations!

In 2020, during the Pandemic –

We spent the first nine months here in North Myrtle Beach until our new home was finished!

We really explored all of the area and into N.C.

This area was high on our list, but we just could not find anything that did not require a lot of money-

To update!

A lot of good memories from our time here!

June 25th, 1982 – our wedding day!

It seems like only yesterday –

All the years have gone by-

GOOD MEMORIES!

While we were in ASHVILLE,

We visited the SERRA NEVADA BREWERY!

We were on a tour and saw how the beer is made-

And then we did a tasting!

GOOD MEMORIES!

LOL – However – I like PBR!

In fact –

We have a local hangout on the beach –

Called – “PELICANS PERCH” –

Where can I get $2.00 PBR’S!

Last time there with my buddy – Bob-

We each had three PBR’s and a meatball sandwich,

And a bag of chips –

FOR A TOTAL OF JUST UNDER $17.00 each!

GOOD MEMORIES!

At a resort just outside Asheville-

We just stopped and looked around.
