The time has gone by – 18 years to be exact – she was so small that the soccer ball looked almost as big as she was!
Our granddaughter started pushing the ball around and then kicking it!
Today she is a senior – her degree will be in Enviromental Science.
Dedicated to college and the team.
The four years have gone by so quickly – soon – in a months time – she will graduate –

It is so peaceful and quiet on the road in our development before all the workers arrive in front of Sherry!
If you want peaceful settings in the country – yet only four miles to the beach and six miles to the other-
than Cameron Woods Community – OIB – just might be where you want to look!
But look fast as only 35 to 40 homesites remain.
When completed – some 150 homes will be here – along four ponds – a walking trail and a beautiful community center.
Two to four miles to Food Lion – Publix and Lowes and several gas stations and bars and grills.
Four golf courses right across the road and summer live concerts live 3 or 4 days a week within 8 miles!

We purchased tickets – three for our neighbor and her parents and two for ourselves.
“STAND BY ME” – SPAINISH HARLEM” “UNDER THE BOARDWALK” ” CHARLIE BROWN”
“YACKITY YAK” ” THE GREAT PRENDER” “ON BROADWAY” “YOUNGBLOOD”
and the list goes on and on.
I guess trying to remember the ’50s and ’60s at our age is not easy –
and I hear music but I can’t really tell you each and every time who sings it!
But – regardless – it all came back one by one
as the songs came out to much delight.
For me, it brought back memories of our local park Tennis Courts.
I belonged to a group one step up from the Boy Scouts – called THE EXPLORERS!
We raised money for our trips and activities – one way was by holding dances at the Tennis Courts!
I think we charged 25 cents – sold soda and candy –
and someone – for my life, I can not remember who although I want to say Guy
spun those 45s!
All these songs we heard at the Alabama Theater from –
THE DRIFTERS – THE COASTERS and THE PLATTERS
were played those evenings under the park lights and stars!
A memorable concert – through the years and back in time –
this was the way it was when I was growing up!

What seems like only yesterday – has been 22 years in the making!
The three oldest are on the left with their parents – Maddy – Ella and Sarah – on the right – Taylor and Cassidy- the twins.
I remember all three – on Christmas day – early – sitting at the top of the stairs – giggling – waiting for their parents to wake up and go down for their stockings!
This picture would have been about that time!
Ella and Sarah are tall like their grandma – Sherry who is 5’9″ – both Ella and Sarah are as tall or taller.
Maddy is 5’6″ – like her mom.
The time has gone by so quick – the little ones are all grown up and now are SISTERS!
By that, I mean confining with one another – all there for each other –
although years separate them – bonding keeps them close.

From LITTLE ones to YOUNG LADIES – OUR GRANDDAUGHTERS – now grown up!
We moved to the Ocean Isle Beach area of North Carolina – eight miles to the border of South Carolina.
The locals call it THE SALT LIFE!
We call it living our dream.
Yes – we have already experienced a major Category One Hurricane – IAN!
And we will tell you it was scary with the trees!
Bending sideways – East to West!
We decided we will leave if it goes past a TWO and a direct hit!
But – the stock market went down and the home values went up – time for change – time to sell and move on!
Warmer weather beckoned – we wanted out of the ice and snow.
We wanted to golf as inexpensive as we could.
We found it all right where we are – 100 golf courses – warmer weather and close beach life.
Retirement – friends – family (VISITORS) have kept us busy – exploring – entertaining –
loving every minute of it!
It seems endless – in the mainstream of society now – those souls who seek out those who only
share their own selves in helpful giving –
The vitriolic spouts forth – shocking – challenging – names – accusations – and puzzlement – WHY?
It happens and you question sanity?
You slowly back away – disengage – something is wrong – your thoughts – unstable – danger.
Then you become more aware – the crazies are becoming a normal way of life – “KARENS”!
You see them in videos on social media – thinking – that won’t happen here – but then it does!
Normal – sane – problems – chips on their shoulders? –
you no longer ponder why – you move on.
A lesson in life – a wake-up call – no bucket list here – just caution.

The “KARENS” MAY FIND YOU – MAINTAIN INTEGRITY AND GOOD THOUGHTS – PAPA’S WORLD – HGD!
Our friends – Bob and Pam came in their RV to a campground near us for a four-day visit.
On the last full day here – we all got up before dawn – we stopped by to pick them up –
and we went to Ocean Isle Beach to the far North East end – to see the sunrise.

Never the selfish one – always the one who gives – both in life and college and on the pitch in soccer.
She works hard – her degree will be in Engineering Science – a 3.85 GPA.
She is up early before sunrise to hike and run – when she visited us this last spring – she was on the beach for sunrise – capturing pictures and filming – her minor is Photography.
She runs – she hikes mountains – and most of all – a team player.
She distributes the soccer ball from the left wing position – pinpoints passing and so fast in doing so.
She loves to score – but she loves to see others do the same.
Dedication for four years straight – a team award for going above the recommended physical fitness regimen for her team. The BELL AWARD was given to those players pictured here and for four straight years, Maddy has achieved that award from her coach.
The four years have gone by so fast – she has done this on her own since she was a sophomore in H.S.

We came to Lynchburg, Va. for a family get-together and to watch both granddaughters play each other in college soccer.
Maddy is a senior at the University of Lynchburg and Ella is a Sophomore at Randolph College.
Both are starters on their teams.
Tammy’s family would join us later in the week – she came down with Debby and her family.
It was a fun time exploring Lynchburg – family time together.

Located on a hill street just off the main street – on both sides – local artists have rendered a colorful
pallet – enticing you to stop and look!
The street even has been painted a rainbow of colors!
The alley is colorful on both sides of the street – and also serves as an entrance to a dwelling on the street!

We had a family get-together at an Airbnb in Lynchburg, Va. to watch our granddaughters play college soccer vs. each other.
We walked the historic area and came across what is called ART ALLEY!
This is all done by artists of the area – bright – colors – designs and paintings!

Both colleges are in Lynchburg, Va. Ella is a sophomore, Randolph – and Maddy is a senior.- Lynchburg.
Both start on their teams – Maddy a wing and Ella midfielder.
Sad this most likely will be the last game they play against each other – but as a family – MEMORIES!
For us as grandparents and as mother and father – there is no winner and no loser !
For the granddaughters – bittersweet as for the second time – Maddy’s team has won.
Ella never came out of the game – and she has now started and played every game as a freshman
and now as a sophomore – the only freshman to accomplish that.
She will be a very good player when it is all said and done.
Maddy is ending her career for a third straight year as a starter.
Lynchburg has gone to the NCAA tournament for 16 straight and won a national title in 2016.
Since they both could walk with their father working with them on ball handling and passing – shooting and footwork – they both take the corner kicks for their teams.
Today Ella has grown so tall – almost 5’10”
Maddy will graduate in Engineering Science with now a 3.85 GPA!

Randolph – wins – 4 losses -1 – ties – 2 Lynchburg – wins – 3 – losses – 1- ties – 4
We play scrambles with other couples – friends – guys vs. gals!
You take the total of your 18-hole score – then you get deducted one stroke for every par the other team made – and two strokes for a birdie and so forth.
Surprising – most scores then come down to one or two strokes – or even.
We have tried other ways – giving and taking strokes – handicaps, etc.
And it all is in fun – but I will tell you – we tied the first nine and the guys won the second nine by one stroke while carding a 35!
THEY ARE THAT GOOD!
Friends are priceless – all these years – song on 40-plus years.
We later went on the ICW on a pontoon boat – cruising up and down – a few drinks –
a lot of laughs and some singing.

Our granddaughter – Ella – became the second sister to play college soccer –
Her sister Maddy is a senior wing for the Unversity of Lynchburg in Va.
Ella is now a Sophomore and started and played every game as a Freshman – the first player that the coach said has done this.
And that string has progressed through seven more games this year.
He only takes her out for a short rest and most times he doesn’t take her out.
She is really good at middle defense and passing the ball.
Her position is forward midfield.
She has become a good – steady player for the program.

A PERFECT DAY TO WALK OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA
We choose this lot because of the sunrise and sunset from our driveway!
You look right to the East and left to the West!
We have been here going on fifteen months – and have had numerous sunrise and sunset skies
that is absolutely beautiful!
We are in OIB but on the mainland side – six miles to Sunset Beach and four miles to OIB.
Our backyard borders a protected area – it can not be developed or cut down – the second reason we chose this lot to build our new home!
This is now our third harvest since early spring – and are going on our second harvest of cucumbers!
She finally talked me into purchasing a grill and we often grill out here – we have no gas and the house is all electric – and electric stove tops we have found are hard to keep clean – thus I grill! LOL

My wife’s sister came to visit – she is moving here in a few months when her condo is finished.
She wanted to get the feel of how to get around and how to get to the beach which will be four miles away for her.

Of course, we can – make them and we will be there – and so we did.
Sherry and I left early as we wanted to do some things in Wilmington, N.C.
Unless we go for a certain thing or event – we do not get there all that often.
We were golfing at Magnolia Greens located some eleven miles from the city.
Our friends live there and I think it to be one of the better courses down here.
Twenty-seven holes – and we were playing just nine this late afternoon.
We once again played a scramble against the ladies and once again we lost!
You can see where Bucks putt went and I had still had to putt – did not make it and we settled for a par.
It turned out to be a great day – beautiful weather – no humidity – 80 degrees!

We have been handicapped this way for the last few times and it gets really close!
But we also have laughed – shots – and some good golf and not-so-good golf!
What a great way to end up the long weekend get-together.

You have to play very well to just tie them!
The second nine – we played really well – boogie first hole – then six pars and two birdies!
Well – we tied the first nine and shot a 35 the second nine –
and won the whole scramble by ONE STROKE!
They are good and we had to shoot as good to beat them.

It was a wonderful three days – but for Mike and Carol – they had to fly back to WNY the next day.
The rest of us had one more day and were planning to golf on Oak Island that same day.
We have been friends for 35 to 40 years.
Neighbors – and hometown friends.
For the last, two years we had gone back to WNY to visit Carol and Mike at their lake house.
This time they flew down to Wilmington.

We gathered at our home for an overnight – then on to Magnolia Greens to the McBrides for three nights.
Last two years we made the trip to WNY to stay with our friends back home.

And it is always too close to call after 18 holes!
We rehashed old times – had a few drinks – listened
to music and the next morning drove back to OIB to show our friends from WNY our home.
Later – we all went to OIB Fish Company to depart on an afternoon pontoon boat ride.
We were out there for four hours – going North to Holden Beach and then back South to Sunset Beach before returning to OIB!

We planned this as a long Labor Day weekend – friends from WNY flew into Wilmington, N.C where they were picked up and we all stayed on the golf course of Magnolia Greens at our close friend’s house.
We try to do this at least once a year and two couples live close so we get together almost every week.

The four couples have been friends going on 35 years and some over 40 years.
We try to get together at least once or twice a year –
made more difficult because some still live in WNY and another couple in Va. Beach.
While Sherry and myself live 32 miles from the McBrides now.
We all rented a pontoon boat for four hours to cruise up and down the ICW from OIB – to Holden Beach and back to Sunset Beach – where we saw a lone Dolphin for over 15 minutes diving for food in 8 feet of water.
It was really busy being labor day weekend – countless boats going both ways and creating waves!

PAPA’S WORLD – FUN TIMES – OLD FRIENDS – GETTING TOGETHER!
We all stay in touch – a group of friends from back in the days living in WNY and WPA!
Slowly we all moved South – to now the N.C. region – Wilmington to OIB
with one couple in Va. Beach and the other couple still in WNY.
Mike and Carol still live back in WNY – own and operate a large painting business with crews traveling out to the midwest and everywhere in between – painting pipelines etc.
They have a lake house that we go up and stay with them.
Our family from WPA came to visit – driving some 16 hours – a very long trip!
First time for my two sons and their families to make the trip South.
We tried to work as much into the seven days as we could –
sometimes letting them go off on their own as we had other commitments
but we did sunrises and sunsets all together – beach time and places to eat out together.
Visiting the area and nature walks along with mini golf!
Our time together was priceless and I encouraged them to fly next time to be able to spend
more time on vacation and less time driving!
Shawn runs his own Energy Auditing business contracting with major energy companies for the states of Pa. and firms from NYS. Troy works for and runs the insulation side of the business for Shawn and government and state programs for the elderly.
We had such a fun week with family and told them to FLY back and we would pick them up!
Every day when I post on my Facebook page – I find humor and share it –
hoping to bring a smile to those who I consider family and friends.
I also bring GOOD THOUGHTS each day – no negative vibes – feelings of kindness and giving.

We had seen this course when we vacationed here about ten years ago –
and we both said “SOMEDAY”!
Well – that day came and we met our friends Buck and Cindy there –
however – we could look out to the ocean and see a storm – thunder and lightning and
we had some sprinkles!
So we decided to go into the bar & grill – have a drink and wait it out!
Which after some 35 minutes – it looked like it had passed and we began.
It was a good day golfing – the rain did come back on the last two holes but was just a sprinkle –
It was a good first time golfing here and we both want to go back.

OUR DREAM GOLFING – THIS TIME OAK ISLAND, N.C. WITH FRIENDS!
We choose to move to Ocean Isle Beach after living for nine months in North Myrtle Beach –
sixteen miles away.
We are about eight miles to the S.C. – N.C border.
We have access to two beaches within six miles and a half dozen others within thirty minutes!
WE ARE NOW LIVING “BEACH LIFE:!
We are retired but still have had an internet business for sixteen years –
allowing us to live the life we dreamed about.
We both wanted warm weather as it does not bother us.
We both love the water and the ability to explore and have options each day.
LIVING LIFE TO THE PLUS as we call it.

We decided after dinner to drive over the causeway to Sunset Beach –
park and then I had a beer and Sherry had unsweet ice tea –
paid our dollars and walked out onto the pier!
A quiet evening on the pier – people fishing – people strolling and taking pictures –
surf – sand, and water –
a time to reflect on one’s self!
Our family from NWPA came to visit for a week – an almost 15-hour drive!
We walked around and showed them the marina and stopped –
then we decided to have a drink – and LULU’S is a favorite spot for us to relax and people watch.
The first time they have been in the south for a visit.
I told them next time they need to fly
not drive 15 hours!

I actually graduated with her aunt back in 1967!
She has a keen eye capturing the sights, while they were here for a week.
I told them both – next time on a long weekend – fly down and we would pick them up – instead of driving fifteen plus hours!
I think she really liked it down here and was excited to see and do different things.
They make for a good couple – a lot in common and seemed to get along well.
BOARDWALK ON THE BEACH – THROUGH THE EYES OF ANDREA!
We went to Boardwalk on the beach before they went to a buffet for seafood!
Just walking around and going into stores so they could experience this part of Myrtle Beach.
Boardwalk on the Beach is a place to go for entertainment – eat and do the rides much like an amusement park.
There is a ton of shopping and fun things to watch and do.

Our family from NWPA drove 14 1/2 hours to be with us for one week – and the first night –
we took them to Sunset Beach to the pier – to experience the famous Sunset Beach – sunset!
The air was warm as was the water at 80 degrees.
Many people come here to fish until midnight when the pier closes.

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY – FAMILY MEETS FRIENDS!
Our families drove some 14 1/2 hours from NWPA to spend a week with us.
We did a lot of exploring – nature walks – resort areas – beach time- sunrise and sunsets.
This day was a nature walk in Cherry Grove before we set out to play mini golf at
“THE BLACK PEARL”!
It was a fun time – guys vs. gals and we barely won!
It was a day in the low ’80s – a little breeze and a lot of fun.

Our family from back home in NWPA drove almost fifteen hours to stay with us for a week!
We decided other than beach time we would take them exploring nature – and the best way for that for us was Vareen Gardens – just across the border in S.C.
We explored the coast – ICW views and the trail then continues across the marsh and into the woods.

We moved South to the border of N.C. and S.C. where the temperature is more to my liking!
This morning – Sherry and I took my oldest son Troy and his partner Andrea to the East end
of OIB, by the break wall called the GROIN!
The GROIN was installed last winter to stop the beach erosion.
900 feet long straight out and into the ocean.
Made up of huge granite boulders weighing tons
and lifted by a big crane from beds of huge dump trucks and put in place to form a break wall to stop erosion.
Beyond this rock wall is a lagoon that at low tide turns into a huge tidal pool – only one to two feet deep!

The walls – ceilings and floors are all painted with Folkart and anything she can paint on!
Known for her Folkart – Mary has her art in every state of the union and worldwide.
She has donated money from her art to feed tens of thousands of children.

My only guess is she made this inside the building as there is no way to get it out!
She is unique and a little eccentric.

Artists from all over the country have come to see how she does this.
And her art is in every state of the union and countries all around the world.
Her husband drowned 42 years ago – leaving her with two little children pre-school.
She set up a table and started selling flea market style to survive.
Then she says she had a vision from God to create her art and feed the hungry children.
Her money from her art goes to feed hungry children so she lives a simple life.
She has been written about in magazines and newspapers –
people from all over the world come to buy her paintings and creations.
Her art is all signed and dated.

We decided to take a day trip to Holden Beach – to see the facilities for future boat trips on the ICW!
We went into the park right after we crossed the causeway from the mainland.
If we rent a boat we need to check out docks with bathrooms, this one had one.
But – you need to reserve the space to dock!
So we decided if we come this way we could wait to go to the dock across the ICW where Provision company is and wait for someone to leave.
Or we could unload people at the park – and just pull back out and wait for them to use the bathrooms.

In NMB – we walked the beach every day – here – it is four miles away so it is just easier to walk the neighborhood.
But – every so often we head to the beach and I think we should do this every day!
The water is so warm – but that brings in the Jellyfish – so they have purple flag warnings!
My blog is dedicated to all that is family – love and to promoting the good things in life.
I share with you those things daily – my hope is you look forward each day to seeing and reading it.
We do have fantastic sunrises and sunsets here.
We go to the end of the driveway – look right to the sunrise and then left to the sunset!
It is a quiet neighborhood in this direction at the end of the road – a new phase of construction has begun.
They have already framed and enclosed some sixteen houses –
they have cleared additional lots and put in two new ponds!
A total of seventy-six more homes will be built back there.
The total of Cameron Woods would then be 170 plus homes and about forty-eight attached condos
at the entrance across the street!
We are four miles to the OIB and seven miles to Sunset Beach.
Over twenty golf courses are within fifteen minutes –
many of them twenty-seven holes.
Two of the many reasons we decided to build and live here.

Split down the middle and agitated with a false narrative.

We form our children – we protect them yet they see our actions and imitate them for the worse not the better.
