Papa’s World – The BIG BUS on and off – San Francisco

GOOD MORNING

We decided to tour San Francisco from the top deck of a BIG BUS !

So – we walked across the street from Pier 39 and that is where we boarded

after purchasing our tickets on Pier 39 !

Cindy and Buck

We choose the top even though it was a wee bit cool

and still a little foggy – esp.the Bridge !

Tom and Sherry
staying warm.

The BIG BUS was a on and off stop bus –

if you wanted too !

I think there were 15 or 16 stops !

But – we decided to just sit back and enjoy the whole city tour

and we even were going to ride across

THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE in the open air !!!!!!

Our tour guide

We had a excellent tour guide who was born and raised –

IN SCOTLAND !!!! How about that !

And he new everything about San Francisco

even one time singing the Tony Bennet classic

” I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO “

and he was rather good – in fact great !

At the top of the street
the zig – zag street

It was hard to remember everything

or everyone he told us about

or that building or this building

Haight – Ashbury

Where it all started – The Peace and Love –

of the HIPPIE GENERATION

of which I am proud to say

I was part of even though

my long hair was curly

LIKE CARROT TOP !!!! LOL

So many memories of that generation

PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS ! And ” LOVE ” !!!

We both worked in the tile field
for a combined almost 80 years !

GREAT MEMORIES

Papa’s World – MUIR’S FOREST – Part two

GOOD MORNING

As we walked among the giants – the peace and quiet became evident –

from watching the man push his wife up the path in a wheel chair

to the lady who quietly said ” Would you like for me to take your picture ” ?

Buck – Cindy – Sherry and me

And that is how we managed to have a picture

with all of us standing inside this huge Redwood tree !

Tom

And then the tree that I hid inside and peaked out –

I am told that the really big Redwoods are further North

Where you can drive a car through –

To think this tree is between 600 and 1600 years old !

And then we entered Cathedral Grove –

Instantly all was quiet

Sherry – Buck – Cindy

A church like atmosphere –

everyone was hushed at the grand gathering of trees !

Walking among them – looking up and then ahead –

taking in the beauty of these giants !

Sherry
Tom Cindy Buck

Solitude – walking – looking – admiring – in awe !

Our day was coming to a close –

after nearly two hours walking among the trees

Time to gather and have a quick lunch

Time to say goodbye to Muir Forest – home of the giant Redwoods !

Papa’s World – there was a time I stayed up late!

Back in my younger days – I started out working second shift –

only a little bit different –

I was scheduled to work 10 hour shifts – for 6 1/2 years!

My hours were 3:00 PM. to 1:00 AM. !

We ate on the fly so I was told – a paid lunch of 20 minutes!

So – my days were like mixed up from my inner clock.

I would get home – in bed by 2:00 AM. and up by 6:00 AM.

I had a son who was always up – so we would eat breakfast

and then I would take him for a walk up the street

to my parents house and read the morning paper!

Troy & Shawn my sons

Troy was my little buddy –

he would hold my hand as we walked up the street

You see – I had a apartment on Main Street

and my childhood home was a short walk up the North Main Street

in a little town in NWPA called Eldred.

Population 800 to 1000 people and everyone knew everyone.

If you saw the movie “Stand By Me” –

well it was a lot like that!

Donna – me – Bill – Roger and my mother Mary

Mom & Dad lived there for years – we were raised there

Here is the front porch and my sister and her husband

lived right next door.

In 1971 I bought a church and the house that went with it!

I turned the Sunday school rooms into two apartments

and then tore the church down.

I had managed to move six months or so before the ’72 flood

Which flooded main street almost up to the second story apartment.

Our little town was cut off by the flood waters from the outside

for over two weeks!

I was off work for almost three weeks

but the house and church sat on some of the highest ground

on North Main Street!

My mother actually had water come over the tracks behind her house!

It had never been that high!

My younger years are gone – staying up late

riding motorcycles

bars – music – dancing staying out late.

Playing softball – basketball – volleyball

Now it is walking – reading – traveling –

visiting friends and places on my bucket list.

My life is blessed for all that I have been able to do.

And even though I no longer wish to go out –

I do wish to go out and see our friends

to see new places and feel life.

Life has come a circle only with different meanings

and yes – I go to bed early and rise up early

for I love what each new day brings

another adventure and cross one more off my bucket list!

Papas World – Wife – Mother – Inspiration – Sherry!

I knew from the first moment she was the one –

We dated a year and one half and then were married.

I have never looked back – and we raised two sets of kids.

Lol – this is funny and so true!

We have bought and sold FIVE houses together in 38 years!

That is averaged to about every 7 1/2 years!

Now – we are staying with both daughters!

Oldest grand daughter – Maddy and oldest daughter Debby with Sherry.

We have plans – not to buy right away – to search – different areas.

To explore South to warmer winters.

But – to also stay with the kids.

We have set up a base camp at Tammy and Marcus house

with the three littlest grand kids.

We help out with the kids – when we are not traveling.

But – the inspiration for all of this is Sherry.

Once she makes up her mind – it is full sailing ahead.

We just celebrated her birthday – 71 years young!

A certified health coach from Dr. Sears!

A Senior Sales Coordinator in The Juice Plus Company!

A leader of her team from across the U.S.A.

“TEAM GENERATIONS”

Made up of Grandparents – children and grand children.

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com

At 71 years old – Sherry has become the inspiration to hundreds of people.

From Tumeric shots to growing plants and veggies for the Tower Garden

to teaching and talking health and nutrition

to walking and running –

to taking calls – emails and texts and zoom and voxer

She is always helping others!

Sherry – for the 38 years we have been married

inspiration – mother – teacher – corp manager – logistics- supervisor

team leader – and family idol –

She has motivated me to be the best I can be.

Papa’s World – Sausalito -Salito’s crab house – Calif.

Good Morning

After our Muir’s Forest and the Redwoods –

we decided to take a side trip for lunch – dinner

and drove into Sausalito , California to the bay !

Our view from the table at –

Salito’s Crab House and Prime Rib !

While it was a little cool in the forest

here it was just right – warm with a breeze !

A perfect place to relax and unwind

By this time we were all hungry

and it was a perfect time for SEAFOOD !

Our view from our table

So – I had the shrimp seafood platter !

Sherry Cindy & Buck

The menu was great and everyone was delighted !

Tom

The bay was beautiful – the weather was great and our food hit the spot !

Papas World – ” HERE COMES PETER COTTONTAIL”!

We have been here for 11 days – and five of those days –

we spent at Lake Holiday with Debby and Mike.

Tammy and Marcus address has become our address

and home base.

At Lake Holiday with Debby – Mike and Maddy.

Also Sarah and Ella.

At Tammy and Marcus house outside Leesburg Va.

Marcus has been having problems with lots of rabbits!

Eating the grass and plants.

So – he spread this rabbit stuff on the lawn –

suppose to make them not like it!

And for the last week or so – it seemed to work!

Then – as we- Sherry and I – were sitting on the patio –

She said look!

There were two rabbits – playing around the corn hole board!

They would follow each other around and under the board!

Then one laid down and began to roll around –

the other just sat there-

this went on for several minutes!

It was really cute and funny –

as I knew my son in law was trying to keep them out of the yard

and away from all the flowers and plants!

Taylor – one of the twins – came out and named them Daisy and Buttercup!

I think the whole thing is funny –

and am waiting for Peter Cottontail to show up!

Buttercup eyeing the flowers! Lol

He was golfing so I took the pictures and tagged him!

I have a feeling it is going to be a long Summer and Fall.

My son in law watching over his lawn and flowers.

Papas World – “AS EASY AS 1-2-3-!” The little ones!

We are now living in the basement of our daughters house!

But basement doe not quite describe it!

We have a bedroom – a full bathroom – two living rooms with chairs and sectionals!

And a storage room where we have put excess items!

We are very comfortable and even another entrance if we choose.

But the one thing I have noticed is how close these three are.

Yes – tyey argue and Bode seems to be the agitator to his sisters.

Yet – they protect him as well!

He will snuggle up with either one and they also will do the same with him.

It all depends on who is watching what on the IPADS!

And they are allowed select time on them –

the rest is play time outside – riding their bikes to neighbors house

or playing in the back yard.

Each girl will retreat to their own rooms –

while Bode tends to play with his toys by himself.

Yesterday – the two girls got up and went outside

here laid Bode – on the back of the couch

he had fallen asleep!

Bode fell asleep on the back of the couch

I tried to get a picture of him – but Taylor going out the door woke him up!

Bode age 5 The twins – Taylor & Cassidy age 9

Our time here for me will be remembered as the song goes

“1 – 2 – 3 ” !

AS EASY AS!!!!!

Cassidy and Bode are much more alike –

yet each one has the traits of the others.

Papas World – Beach 2 at Lake Holiday!

New homes built across from beach 2

Our daughter and her family live at Lake Holiday in Cross Junction Va.

When we visit – instead of going to beach one

we head to the less crowed beach two.

The beach here has less sand and more gravel

but once you are in – it is calm as there is a no boat wake

and it sits between two coves.

There are docks for boats and future marina – number 2 –

will go in around the corner –

there also is a camp ground but no utilities.

It is peaceful and quiet here with new houses that are beautiful.

Many boats will come into the cove –

and tie down and float and raft and swim.

This is a man made lake of about 227 acres with a dam.

It is a gated community with 3 beaches –

Beach 3 is off grid tent camping and where they set off the fireworks.

Beach one has the community center and large events building.

The beach there is also way bigger and all sand.

Papas World – staying with our daughter – 4th of July

I am glad I had my HIPPIE YEARS all those years ago! YIKES!

All those years later – we have sold our home

and are spending time back and forth between our daughters homes.

Here – we are at Debby and Mikes at Lake Holiday – Cross Junction.

We have come for the 4th. of July – and the fireworks on the lake

at a friends of theirs dock!

Sarah

We have been coming here for the past 14 years to be with them

The three oldest grand daughters!

We all are a family of healthy eating

Sherry is a senior sales cordinator

and Debby a Qualified National Marking Director.

Both for the same company –

The Juice Plus Company

and both certified health coaches.

The peaceful setting – ducks on the water – speed boats –

and pontoon boats pulling tubes and skiers.

fire works at dusk
all the boaters gathered at the marina

We had a excellent view – and had watched the boats headed to the marina.

Observing is my nature – I like to watch – listen –

and I as I get older – I am learning –

looking and feeling the vibes of others.

Life with Debby and Mikes family
Lake Holiday – Cross Junction Va.
The three oldest grand daughters
The Myers
Thank You!

Papas World – a little bit of this and that!

Healthy eating – healthy living – healthy lives –

That is what we try to do each and every day!

NOT EASY by a long stretch!

But then neither is life.

You can only try once – and try to make it count!

Just kidding but found it amusing!

Giving and taking –

talking and listening –

another life’s relationships

Sometimes it works

sometimes it doesn’t

But it is well worth the effort!

Yes we do – and little ones as well!

We all come in different shapes and sizes –

Different levels of tone –

some we can tune out

others we tune into

But – what is incredible is understanding

all we have to do is listen – listen – listen

instead we do not hear

and when it becomes silence

then we wish that once again we hear them.

Our loved ones are always in our memories – even their voices.

Life has changed ever so much during my years here.

From plastic records – to radio –

8 track and cassettes

To disks

Now wireless and tic tok

rver changing – going forward

And the beat goes on –

The music plays in your minds

We all march to its beat in different ways.

Life is full of music and I love it!

Papas World – a little bit of peace and quiet!

We are now gone from our home –

and have set up a base camp

at our youngest daughters & husbands home!

It is a rather large neighborhood – with large homesites

and really spread out!

Lots and lots of flowers – landscaped -fenced in.

Beautiful sunrise and no one out and about!

My spot now to sip my coffee in the morning – the Sun rises from the rear

The gate to the back yard – kids playing – riding bikes – scooters

A happy place this is – also very quiet outside

you hear and see lots of birds and from behind the woods – Cows!

My coffee and my new spot to sip and watch – but – watching is difficult

as you very seldom see anyone!

The back yard patio and gazebo – two fire pits and PURPLE MARTINS!

The neighbor has a birdhouse for PURPLE MARTINS!

And you watch them fly – dive and swoop around – chasing insects!

A rainbow – with no rain – rabbits and beyond the tree line –

pasture & cows and tractor working the fields.

Peaceful noises in early evenings.

Every yard of every house is fenced in – some like these

and some with the black wrought iron fence.

All yards manicured – a couple they mow their own –

but I see landscapers here daily mowing lawns.

We have moved on –

to a quiet place with the grand kids & their parents.

Laughter and love – peace of mind

peace in the heart

and peace in the soul!

Papas World – The home base with the 3 little ones!

We have sold the house and moved in with our daughter

and family.

These are our youngest grand children –

The twins – Taylor – the tallest – Cassidy the short one.

And our grand son Bode.

Bode and Cassidy are two peas in a pod!

Being the only boy with five grand daughters

he has become my little buddy!

We are here as sort of a home base –

and will also stay with our other daughter Debby

in Cross Junction Va. at Lake Holiday.

In Lake Holiday with Debby

The three oldest are Maddy – Ella and Sarah.

We will spend time with them but the older two work.

We have been welcomed with open arms –

But our plan is not to infringe – we will travel –

help out when we can and see where we end up.

But for now – I am in a warm fuzzy place

Watching and enjoying each and every moment.

The innocence – the watching them grow up.

And the quiet time of a IPAD –

With all three so quiet and focused.

We have landed in the right place-

Home base with the three little ones

and every so often with the three big ones.

Life is good and we are blessed.

Papa’s World – MUIR’S FOREST – REDWOODS

Finally – after visiting Muir’s Beach – it was time to retrace our route

and back to the reserved parking lot – to visit THE REDWOODS !

MUIR’S FOREST IN THE DISTANCE

So many pictures – so much awesome forest and trees –

that I have decided to break this down into a series.

MUIR WOODS

I have never seen a forest such as this –

so pristine – so awesome –

But – in the middle of all this –

a flash from the past –

A PAY PHONE !

Buck and Tom

You look up and up and still up !

Upon entering – a telling of Muir Forest
The history

This forest has been here for

some say 1600 years at least !

The roots are shallow

It was explained to me – that this is the perfect storm so to speak.

One – between 42 and 68 degrees –

FOG – these are the only trees to absorb moisture through their leaves !

The protection from the winds in their valleys.

And – their root systems being shallow –

they intertwine with one another !

Sherry and Cindy

The Sun is hot -the shade is cool !

Buck
Cindy

I wonder why all the older trees hollow out on the bottom ?

INTERESTING

Thank you for reading Papa’s World –

the Muir Forest Redwoods will continue.

Papas World – Happy Birthday – Sherry!

A Certified Health Coach – A Lab Tech – Payroll – Traffic –

Logistics – Supervisor – Manager – and now a Senior Sales Crodinator

for the Juice Plus Company – HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERRY!

The many professions she has held in all these years.

The respect of her peers – the leadership – she is the one

they all came to for advice – skill and being capable

to accomplish whatever she set out to do.

Mother – grandmother and MORMOR

Swedish for MOTHERSMOTHER!

Daughters Debby & Tammy

The grand children adore her

The daughters respect and follow her.

To these three – the youngest – it is MORMOR!

Bode – Taylor ( who I think will be taller than her) & Cassidy

Her grandmother immigrated from Sweden –

The proud heritage passed down through her mother

herself and her daughters to the grand kids.

They all seem to have inherited being tall like her

5′ 9″ to be exact.

Sarah – Debby – Sherry – Maddy & Ella

So far Ella has come the closest at 5′ 8 1/2 “

But I see Sarah and Taylor catching her and beyond.

She is my soulmate – my mentor and the reason I live today.

We have been married 38 years.

Today is her birthday –

and we have started a brand new adventure together

We have bought and sold FIVE homes together

And now we are free of ownership

Free to travel where we want

and no worries of a house – taxes or HOA!

So – today – to you my love – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The road awaits us – another dream begins –

and one more birthday is here

but you continue to amaze me – you are just as beautiful

as the day we were married.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERRY!

With the tree oldest grand kids.

Sarah 13 Debby mother – Sherry – Maddy 19 & Ella 16

All are about to have birthdays this Summer and Fall

Hard to believe they are that old!

Then it will be onto our other daughters house

were we have sort of set up base camp!

Cassidy – 9 Tammy mother – Taylor 9 the twins
Bode age 5 & Papa

They also will have birthdays soon.

Our plan is to go back and forth –

For a while – also to travel and see friends and family.

There is a lot of truth in this – we are changing – evolving –

and going to enjoy life without debt – taxes and HOA’s.

For at least a while!

We have been careful – we wear our masks when in close company.

But – life goes on – we are healthy –

I was asked WHY I take Juice Plus & Omega’s

My reply is I know the research – I know how I feel –

and I trust good nutrition over a pill.

And I have been doing it for 15 years.

Papa’s World – DAY # 100 with friends – RESTON VA.

We have been on the move – packing –

going back and forth to the storage unit.

So we were invited by friends to meet up at the Reston Town Center.

Where we found four chairs – placed them at least six feet apart

and sat down and ate our curbside pickup!

We met up with Jason & Ginger Child –

and while it was raining – sometimes a cloud burst

we found shelter under the covered ICE SKATE RINK

Now covered in artificial grass –

with all these colorful chairs and decorations!

Our peaceful little space – under the clear roof – with a slight rain!

It was so nice to just sit and talk – eat – and watch people –

all respecting distance – and being outside – we took our masks off

to of course eat and sip our ice teas!

The topics were one and many – the laughs – well – a way to relax.

We have a lot to be thankful for – sitting with friends outside

in the fresh air – listening to the rain –

eating lunch –

it is the little things in life that are full of surprises

Thank you Ginger for the invite!

And Jason – who works from home 7 days a week –

A chance to take a break –

Someday my friend – we shall play a round of golf!

Papas World – looking around – almost done!

I am looking around the house – we have the car loaded up for one more run

to the storage unit and then to our daughters house.

We stopped at Home Depot and bought two more small boxes –

A medium size one another wardrobe one.

This chair will stay here – it matches the bedroom set

which they purchased.

My clothes are in a suitcase –

A carry bag and some piled on the floor.

The utilities have been called – shut off date – the paper will be canceled.

As I look around – almost all that is still here will remain.

The final finish line is in sight – all the keys collected –

put into plastic bags and marked.

I am writing down things I think they should know.

We will be staying with our daughters until we decide when to leave

for the winter.

We will visit friends and family as we have been invited.

I look around – it has been a good run – our home – our base – our dream.

We are in this together – and we shall go on – new adventures await.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papas World – down to the last – finally I sleep.

I guess it is in my DNA – whenever I have a task before me –

I push ahead until I finish it!

I think it also is in the Tarot Cards of life –

Me being born a Taurus

strong willed – plows ahead – like a Bull!

And it has a effect on those around me.

That is why I am much better off working alone –

Plodding ahead one step at a time.

For that – I am deeply sorry –

It is a inborn trait –

And drives my wife crazy!

Now – as I sit here – we have accomplished in one week

what normally would take most people weeks to do!

We are 98 % packed up – moved to storage –

all that is left is the pantry – some bathroom items –

and our clothes which we already have moved 60%!

She is a saint for putting up with me!

She has cleaned out and packed up 99 % of everything!

She insists on wrapping it all and putting into boxes

crates – I seal them up – pick them up ( heavy)

Move to garage to stage –

and then into the car –

either to the storage unit or Salvation Army –

Project Hope – or our daughters house!

Our daughter Tammy

We are using Tammy & Marcus house as sort of a home base

We also will take turns staying with Our other daughter Debby!

Debby – our daughter

Debby and Mike have helped us whenever we asked

moving the heavy stuff to providing another van to pack in!

At Debby’s house with grand daughters
At Tammy’s house with grand daughters
With my little bud – Bode

I look around – the buyers actually purchased 95 % of our furniture

as they had none transferring back to the states from abroad.

So – we did not have to move the heavy items

but in the kitchen alone – there are 22 cupboards & 22 drawers!

As Sherry said – packed full and she is going to not buy

ANYMORE STUFF! LOL

Debby – Sherry – Tammy

At last I have been able to sleep more than a hour.

And I owe it all to these three –

It is not easy being with me when I am focused

But she has calmed me down and led me through all of this.

Thank you Debby and Tammy for being there for me
And thank you to my wife

for working through all of this with me – you are a angel.

I am relaxed now – sleeping – laughing – and we are once again walking –

We have time now –

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

We will be traveling – not buying for a while

And I promise to calm my TAURUS SOUL!

MY SITE: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papas World – we were asked “WHY”? I answered simply “WHY NOT”?

Yesterday at 3:00 we gathered in the parking lot – across from Giant –

In Ashburn, Va.

Along with a couple thousand other souls – a non violent protest

A march of a mile and one half to the historical first “COLORED SCHOOL”.

We had been outside in our driveway when Kori came rushing over.

Kori is African American and a neighbor of about two plus years.

She had seen the sign in front of the house and exclaimed “You’re Moving”?

We had the conversation – I oft times will be outside and we will chat.

She is a single mom with a daughter.

After we chatted for about ten minutes – she invited us to the march –

to be held Sunday – the 14th. of June.

And we told her we would make the effort –

but we were in the middle of packing and moving – but would try.

I am not much of a crowd person – even baseball and football games

make me feel closed in.

At a Nationals game I had to leave my seat – just to get into a space

I could breathe and not have that feeling.

But – we both feel strongly on the protest – peaceful marches.

Not the violence which hurts all.

Not the burning and looting – but humanity –

being looked upon as equal.

Seeing the injustice and abuse that goes on in the profiling

both of Hispanic and Black communities.

Through our eyes – through our souls and though our beliefs in God.

I observed my surroundings – taking it all in as I walked the roadway.

A couple thousand people – white – brown – black – Asian –

Mothers – fathers – daughters – sons – grandparents.

Children – teens – and people standing and clapping – holding signs

as we passed by.

My eyes did not see rudeness – violent people – guns – weapons

jeering – hatred – anti protesters – thugs – or far right or far left agitators.

I saw human kind – peacefully walking – carrying signs

And families bonding with strangers.

My eyes saw the inside looking out of a peaceful protest march.

My eyes saw no politics – only sincere people – seeking justice.

To – rectify inequality – to be human and treated as such.

Across all barriers – all skin color and all religions.

Can you imagine what I would of missed had I not gone?

Sherry is my guiding force – my rock and my soul –

for from that first thought placed by Kori – she was going.

Today I have a new perspective –

a new look on just what it means to be isolated and prejudged.

I stood in front of that school – the First “COLORED SCHOOL”

and thought – Just how far we have come – but not near enough.

When asked “WHY”?

My simple answer is “WHY NOT”?

And my “WHY” is here in this picture.

Yes – my son – BLACK LIVES MATTER!

Papas World – Packing up “STUFF” – WOW!

Now that we have sold the house – we continue to clean out cupboards!

How in the world did we accumulate all the “STUFF”?

Men go shopping – straight in and back out again!

Women go shopping and “STUFF” happens!

Another morning – another cupboard – another card board box-

Never ending – it seems I fill up the garage space

then load into our Prius V – with the seats folded down.

And off to the storage unit we go with “STUFF”!

I have to admit – some of the “STUFF” is mine.

But it is “STUFF” I use! LOL

Dealing with “STUFF” is much like above picture –

It is endless!

I learned a long time ago –

“IT IS NOT FOR ME TO QUESTION WHY? BUT FOR ME TO DO OR DIE!”

“STUFF” can’t live without it!

Or so I am told!

Sherry – my wife – is the proud owner of “STUFF” –

and that is why I fell in love with her all those years ago.

“STUFF” is what marriages are made of –

Good “STUFF” – Bad “STUFF” – Together “STUFF”

“STUFF” is what makes the World go around!

No one I would rather have “STUFF” with than my wife – Sherry –

She is what “STUFF” in life for me is all about!

Papas World – children – now grown up – memories

In 1982 – June 25th. we were married – each for the second time.

We had dated for a year and half.

We were engaged the previous December at Christmas.

Our journey was to begin – and now – soon to be 38 years!

As we grow older – the kids are still kids to me.

That is what I call all four.

My two sons
Troy to the left
Shawn to the right

Troy can build a house from the ground up –

Shawn is a ranked pool player in the USA & Canada

Shawn has his own energy company – across Pa.

Doing audits and energized for the elderly & low income.

All through the state and power companies.

Troy runs the crews.

Both are kind – caring and live back in North West Pa.

Very proud of these two.

Shawn is married to Trisha – he has two sons

Ryan and Dylan

Troy has no children of his own

but is loved by the children of his ex.

Debby is a Qualified National Marketing Director

for the Juice Plus Company.

Living the dream and living the life of health & nutrition

Debby is married to Michael

and they have three daughters

Maddy – Ella and Sarah

Tammy is also into health and nutrition

as a Sales Coordinator for the Juice Plus Company

along with her own Upscale Consignment store for children

She is married to Marcus and they have three children

The twins Cassidy and Taylor

and the only boy – Bode.

We are happy – after all these years

soon it will be year number 38!

To my wife Sherry – Happy Anniversary

To our children – thank you for seeing us through the tough times

combining all of us together

and being there when we need you.

And thank you all for reading Papa’s World

Papas World – everything is going great – blessed.

Do you ever make plans – start them

and nothing seems to go the way you want them?

Well – just the opposite is happening to us!

First – we thought about listing the house –

The stock market crashed – 35 % down for us.

But – here where we live – the housing market kept going up!

We were walking in the right direction – upward!

After the housing market crashed in 2008 – we lost a lot of equity.

Now – after we called in a friend who lists houses

We were surprised to find we were almost back!

We had options – we could wait it out – The Pandemic –

and see if the market stays strong through the November Election

Or catch the wave now and SELL!

We are both SEVEN plus years into retirement –

And LOOKING for a adventure.

WE LISTED and leading up to that – for three weeks –

WE GOT RID OF STUFF!

No alarm clocks needed – just wake up and go to it!

We listed at noon on a Saturday – first showing 7pm. same day.

I mowed the lawn – 90 some degrees outside – then a gentle rain –

Grass deep green – flowers blooming – trees lush –

Sun came out – everything falling into place!

First offer Sunday morning

but five more showings scheduled that day – our friend said to wait –

even though the offer was more than we expected –

She had increased the listing from her previous quote

It was going great and our stress was gone!

Our plan is to stay with our kids family

enjoying the little ones and the older ones.

THEN – another offer and three more showings scheduled.

By 7PM. we had showed the house six times with three offers

All above the listing price!

EVERYTHING WAS ABOVE OUR EXPECTATIONS!

The offer we accepted Sunday night – just 24 hours plus from listing

Was above the listing price by $10,000.00 – CASH!

No strings attached except a termite inspection!

Have never seen any termites – and they will buy all our furniture

we do not want!

Plus – settlement in three weeks!

We have been blessed –

We had lost money on the house and almost made up the whole amount!

everything has gotten better with each passing day.

We are almost done packing up and moving items to storage

We have sold almost 95 % of our furnishings –

and we are happy and ready to start our new lives!

And with that – my little buddy and I –

went together and got our HAIRCUT!!!

EVERYTHING IS GOING GREAT – BLESSED!

Papas World – I have a neighbor – his name is Dexter – a good dude.

I started to mow yesterday – and I have always mowed my two neighbors lawns.

To the right of the tree and light post – Dexter’s lawn

He came out and I shut the mower down.

I have know him for almost 14 years

He has been going through hard times the last three years.

You see – Dexter has Cancer – he is young – early 40’s.

He sometimes rides his bike on the same trails as we walk.

He told me Susie had told him we sold our house.

Susie lives between us and I mow her lawn also.

He said it is hard to believe that soon there will be

No more Sherry and Tom – to talk to.

He has gone through a bone marrow transplant.

He is in pain a lot of times now with his back.

He has not worked in three years and is on total disability.

We sometimes send food over – he does not have much and is on a limited income.

He has always watched our home when we are away –

carefully attending the Tower Gardens.

Even before he became ill and the Chemo has eaten away at him

We would talk on the front porch or stand and talk out front

He has our code to the garage door

when we are away he checks and makes sure everything is okay

I started doing that after we had gone away

and had a major water leak that destroyed

our first level wood floors – causing us to replace 800 some feet

because we could no longer match the thickness.

Dexter is my friend – trusted neighbor – we talk

we laugh – I help him out –

Dexter is African – American.

DEXTER IS MY NEIGHBOR & FRIEND

BLACK LIVES MATTER

Going to miss him.

Papa’s World – The lone Cypress – Pebble Beach

Sherry & Tom

On our bucket list of things we have to do in Northern California –

See the LONE CYPRESS tree and sit on the balcony overlooking –

the 18 th. green at the World known PEBBLE BEACH !

CROSS THEM OFF !

Cindy & Sherry
Ethel and Lucy !

Many times I have watched the PGA

and the tournament held here every year – THE PRO AM !

One day I shall see it !

Sherry – SPY GLASS

We both are want to be golfers !

But in our World – just being on the course is enough !

The Ocean
Par three tee box
on the Ocean

The 17 mile drive – past SPY GLASS –

and a couple other courses –

the temps in the low 60’s – overcast – foggy –

just like you see on TV.

The beaches with cold water
Looking at the seals
SPY GLASS

The beauty of it all – each turn in the road – another view.

The view ever changing
Buck and Cindy

Walking through the sand – the beach – and just a little ways away –

another golf course hole –

close enough that you stand 20 feetf rom them teeing off !

All of that to come to this!
The lone Cypress
\

For over 250 years it has stood sentinel –

guarding the rocky shore –

becoming the Signature of PEBBLE BEACH GOLF COURSE !

One of the most famous pictures in the World !

Cindy

And then you make the right hand turn toward the Ocean –

and you are there –

Houses behind the 18th.green

And you have arrived at the famed Pebble Beach

and the 18th. green and the long Par Five fairway !

The dog leg left –

Many times I have watched the pros try to cut that corner –

Esp. Phil Mickleson –

only to have it go gracefully over the cliffs

and onto the beach or water !

The 18 th. green
Pebble Beach

The green guarded by two trees and sand traps –

that would be big trouble for me !

Since I generally hit the ball to the right and short –

no problem with the Ocean ! LOL

The 18 th.

Wishful thinking – can I play here ?

How much ?

Guess I have to delete that one from my fantasy bucket list !

But – we made it – 70 years and counting !

Do not know if I ever will get back here

CHEERS

But I can say I drank looking out at 18 –

it was a trip of a life time for me

Cross that one off !

Papa World – now the work begins – packing!

For me – I never set the alarm – I just wake up!

Now – that we have a agreed upon sale of the house

PACKING has taken on a whole new term.

We had done a awful lot in the previous three weeks.

The buyer has offered to buy furniture –

all we had to do was list the items and price them.

That took hours as they had no furniture

and we wanted to rid ourselves of as much as we could!

So – now we wait – what exactly do they want?

So – we continue to PACK – items that we know are going to the storage unit.

You see – we have no plans to buy another house right away!

We simply want to step back from home ownership

No taxes – no HOA fees – no lawn care –

although that was the best part for me – working the lawn!

Our plans are to search out the area first –

See where we would like to live

but in the mean time we have homes to go to.

The kids will take us in!

But – we also want to travel –

so even though we will be there – we also will be gone a lot!

We will visit friends – we will take a trip back home to NYS!

And we plan on staying the Winter in Florida – somewhere!

PACKING – each cupboard – closet – boxes – crates all marked.

We will get through this – OH DID I MENTION!

We have to be out in THREE WEEKS!

So – there in is the problem –

not knowing as of right now – what the buyers will buy from us

What furniture they actually will purchase.

So – I walk around and past them –

To PACK things we know are going!

We are happy – we are alive – we are excited

AND WE ARE PACKING!

LIFE IS GOOD – PASS ME THE TAPE GUN!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

NOW THE WORK BEGINS – PACKING!

Papas World – a date to remember – June 5th.

It all started for me on June 5th. 1967 –

one week out of H.S. graduation.

The previous September – I was in a car accident

And at that point – I did not know if I would walk again.

I spent all 51 days in bed – in traction – unable to get up.

But – I beat it – my pelvis had broken – and numerous other difficulties

including catheterization for 41 days

and a high draft number – precluded me from the military.

No money – a child to support – no college.

June 5th. 1967 – my first day of work for American Olean Tile Company.

That date once again came into play in a major way on June 5th. 1999.

That was my last working day at the same place I started 32 years prior!

Only this time – I and my wife whom also worked there –

Were transfering to the Washington D.C. area in what is known as

Northern Virginia.

Fairfax to be exact.

We both would work for the company –

now owned by Mohawk – only at different sites.

Her in Dulles and me in Alexandria – Springfield area.

Our two daughters – my step daughters for almost 38 years

followed us to NVA.

And the next part of the June 5th. recurring date –

Last night – Friday June 5th. 2020 –

We signed the paperwork to list and sell our house

in Brambleton Va. In the pouring down rain.

We decided it is time to move on – to wander – to seek out new horizons.

A time to reflect not back on the past –

but to look forward to new beginnings.

We loved our home – our neighborhood –

It is not easy to let go – but – we are growing older

we are still able to enjoy life

and we make this move not with worries of what is to be-

But what wonders we shall encounter.

The date JUNE 5th.

The adventure begins today – one day later as the first buyer

shall come into our home.

I look around – there is a lot of “US” here.

Passing it on and taking the memories with us.

June 5th. 2020 – who knows what the next June 5th. brings.

The adventure continues – making memories – writing blogs.

Welcome to Papa’s World

Papas World – we have discussed this for 6 years!

Two months ago – we called a friend –

She sells houses – and we wanted to hear what she had to say!

First – how is the market – ” STRONG SHE SAID”!

Only 8 homes listed in your price range

and 28 people looking!

Then – she looked around – at all the upgrades!

And gave us a quote – estimate –

So – we decided to start cleaning out – “STUFF”!

Even if we were to stay – we had to get rid of “STUFF”!

Three weeks ago – we decided now or never!

WE LOVE OUR HOUSE – OUR LOCATION!

Her parents had said the same thing all those years ago.

But – then it was too late – her father passed in 2001

and their dream never became real.

We called the lady – we will be ready in three weeks.

How is the market?

Still strong and the estimate went up!

We notified our friends and they were happy.

Come – live by us!

I called my sons and told them.

Sherry told the girls and grand kids!

We set the wheels in motion.

Trip after trip – Salvation army – Project Hope

Secure a storage locker

Start selling items on THE BRAMBLETON MARKET PLACE!

Pictures of the outside already taken

Now tonight – at 6PM.

They come to take pictures of the inside

The sign has been ordered

We told a few neighbors

everything is downsized as far as we can go now.

We want to sell as much as we can

And then – stay with the kids

until we find a furnished place to rent

We will not buy right away

We plan the Winter to be somewhere in Florida

But – we have options

We are going to take our time

WE WILL MISS OUR HOME OF ALMOST 14 YEARS!

IT IS TIME

I WANNA GET LOST IN YOUR ROCK AND ROLL

Papa’s World – Sensational trip back to Reno – El Dorado Mountains

Our return trip to Reno from Lake Tahoe – took us through the mountains

The El Dorado mountains to be exact !

The beginning of the trip back to Reno

We had decided not to retrace our original course –

but to take the longer route back.

And so glad we made that choice !

The road had some amazing views –

You never get tired of looking !

Way – way up –
water gushed from the mountain

The mountains were so high that the waterfall looks small!

El Dorado’s

It was a longer trip –

but well worth the extra time.

Stopping for just looking

Our trip back – we marveled at the beauty of the mountains –

Tunnels – huge rocks and sheer cliffs –

Always a view – peace – solitude

FREEDOM

Our day was getting long –

and we soon were looking for a place

a place to stop – rest – eat and just enjoy the time we spent together.

Our next stop –

at a again unexpected destination

found by chance

” THERE’S GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS ” !

Papa’s World WHERE FRIENDS MEET FAMILY

Next Blog – ” SMITH FLAT HOUSE ” !

Papas World – another day – another walk – another blog!

We walk – and walk and walk.

71 years old – still walking – social distancing – getting exercise.

Between 2 and 3 .20 miles a day –

depending on weather – walking – not running

tried that and ended up hurting my legs

shins and hips!

I run too hard Sherry says.

I LITERALLY POUND THE PAVEMENT!

My focus is movement –

I will have 1000 to 2000 every morning

before my wife gets up!

I am always up by 5 am.

I move around in the mornings

I sit and write – but constantly get up –

doing things – dusting the floors –

I clean all the time – put away dishes

unload the dish washer – nothing with noise

just being busy keeps me moving.

My heart doctor said to me ” MOVE”

and I get between 8000 and 11,000 steps each day

when the weather permits walking outside!

I am a fair weather walker – I do not like to walk in the cold.

Since I had heart problems and a operation

I get really cold easily.

That is the main reason I seek out warmer weather

in the Winter time!

The self sheltering has been not easy as we miss our families.

But – we have been walking – riding bikes –

putting puzzles together ( 8 )

and reading books – I love to read –

and I have been blogging each and every day.

Walking – no hair cut – sunshine – sheltering!

Just another blog and another day in my life.

Papas World – RESPECT – the store – your peers – family

The other day we were out on a mission

To meet a lady who had masks made in Vietnam

and were high quality.

We ordered 10 of them – at less than the going price.

And they fit much better than what we had.

But we had some time – so into Wegmans we went.

And there was not one person in that store that did not have a mask on!

There were a lot of people in there.

No one complaining – shouting – just people going about shopping!

This will rub people – it will cause some of you to be disgusted

You will say your RIGHTS are being infringed upon.

But – I will say – it comes down to RESPECT!

Wearing a mask will not keep you from getting Covid19

But if you sneeze or cough

and you do not know you are affected

It will help protect those you might have coughed or sneeze on!

So much in social media – so much hatred

RESPECT for that store

RESPECT for you peers

RESPECT for your family

The path may never be the same again

The journey will be different

But – our lives still live on

and RESPECT is much needed.

We will get better at RESPECT

or it will end up being worse than Covid19.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

They say – you can count your friends on one hand – true friends

then you are blessed!

They also say – know not to discuss politics – religion –

but to make memories – laugh – hug – shake hands –

For true friends are rare

Keep them close – cherish them – love them

Friends can and should be for life.

Stories are told – memories are kept –

pictures cherished

life is living and living is life.

Yes – through the years – you stay in contact –

Papas World – do we or don’t we – 21 years here – blessed

Well – we shall see how this all works out –

WE ARE LISTING OUR HOME – another BIG event in our life!

And yes – at least once a day – ” Please call my phone” ! LOL

It always gets laid down somewhere only not to be found!

Going to miss this – a view out the back door – to the East sunrise.

We decided that maybe it was time – we have gone through one down turn

and after almost 13 years – our market here has recovered

to the point we just may break even on the sale of the house!

Being 71 years old – we just do not have the time left to rebound

if the market once again turns down.

With the pandemic – and our area is still strong in sales

we decided to cut our ties here – and wait and rent –

We love it here – will we be sorry and regret it?

NOTE: Hair is much longer now – going back to my HIPPIE DAYS!

Or will we treat it as a new adventure – a new start –

where ever we want to go!

This could become our new norm!

For the time being – we will stay with the kids –

either in Leesburg or Winchester

and after Christmas – head South for the winter.

Storage will contain whatever we do not sell

and we have sold a lot already!

We have made five trips to Salvation Army –

We have given the kids different items

What they can use or want – we have gone through STUFF

and donated it or thrown away!

Being retired has made it all the easier to do this.

Once you make up your mind –

throwing things away becomes less stressful

and looking ahead to a new beginning

a new start somewhere – we have ideas

but for the time being – we will just relax

( I do not how we had time to work – before retirement)

I will miss my yard – my flowers – everything I created

but I have done this before – leaving my mark on the land

Someday we will return and ride around

just to see the changes and how it looks.

My neighbors have said they will miss us –

They wonder if the next ones will keep it as nice as we have.

Only time will tell –

I told the lady selling our house –

everything you see – comes back each Spring

There are four trees I did not plant – every other tree and bush

I planted – most times on my knees by hand

for you see Northern Va. is full of rocks! LOL

Blooming in the Spring
Growing our own produce
The Tower Garden
Everything is for sale
We will take at least one with us
http://www.sfjuiceplus.com
Its a big house
almost 3100 sf.
a 500 sf patio
strawberry patch
I am going to miss this the most
mowing – trimming
green grass – shade trees
flowers – Gods beauty
Sitting on our front porch
I like this better than the patio
I get to see people walking
saying hello
waving from across the street
Saying good bye to the path we walked
the sidewalks – the lakes
the forests
The playgrounds and the buildings to come
Sheltering has been good for us
as we have places to walk
going to miss this after 14 years

By the time you have read this – we will have listed the house

We will have had a storage unit

and cleaned out the house and stored what we can

made it presentable to those who are interested

downsizing – clearing out –

And maybe even sold it!

Who knows where our next adventure will be

I will keep blogging where ever we are

LIFE BEGINS AT 71 FOR US!

Together through thick and thin

living life one day at a time

More to come !

Papas World – Salvation Army – Link – Food – Give!

In these days – make your path one of giving.

Can you deliver food from your food pantry or church?

It is coming to the weekend –

People are running out of food

The little ones – the children – oft times –

the only food they have come from school provided lunches.

In our area – schools are still providing that lunch during the week.

BUT THE WEEKEND LOOMS!

Sometimes – you just look around and it is alright to sit and reflect

have your coffee – a beer – a drink – zoom with friends

maintain your life as well as you can

when you can not hug a loved one

Sometimes – the MIND needs comfort!

Take those extra clothes to a charity – a place for hope for those in need.

Salvation Army – Goodwill – area drops for the needy.

I do not need to let them collect on the chair in the corner.

Give what you can – and let thanks come that you do not need.

The World needs us now – as good – kind and giving.

We only have one life – live to give – give to live.

Papa’s World – Lake Tahoe adventure continues

Cindy and Sherry

Mt. Rose ski slopes – 8250 feet – a little chilly but refreshing.

Cindy – me – Buck

As our adventure starts – we decided that we would completely

drive the whole way around Lake Tahoe

we ended up driving 180 miles that day !

Mt. Rose – 8250 feet high
Our first sight of Lake Tahoe
Cindy and Sherry
pointing at the lake
although it looks like trees they are holding up !
Lake Tahoe
Clear waters
Swimmers
Swimmers snorkeling

We would pull off road and take pictures – it was so beautiful

The water is so clear you have 100 feet visibility !

However – the average temperature of the water is

42 degrees low and 64 high – too cold for me !

However – we read where it never freezes over

The warm water at the bottom always rises to the top

preventing it freezing !

Cindy and Buck

I hope you enjoyed this part of our adventure –

Oh – just another little tidbit

The average SNOW FALL at the Lake Tahoe area

420 inches !

Way too much for me

and the last of the snow melted in JULY !

Papa’s World – Running for Cancer and Health – Family

Today it was run for cancer ” FAMILY STYLE ” MORMOR – daughter Tammy – son in law Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy and Bode all ran. The adults ran the Five K ( Sherry finished 3rd in her age group 60 to 69 !

MORMOR ( Sherry) finishing – the time is from the start of the front runners – her time was 40:43 !!!! 3.1 miles 3 out of 16 in her age group!

Marcus finished in 30:21 minutes – Tammy 35 minutes ! The three little ones ran a mile – after the 5K was over.

Tammy just before the finish and Cassidy cheering her on.

The mile for the kids – Cassidy finished toward the top after hanging back to be with Bode- Taylor took over and let Cassidy go !

Cassidy racing to the finish – she would of made top three had she not waited to be with Bode !

Taylor staying with Bode who is only four years old – being the big sister leader and protector!

It was truly a family run – running for a neighbor who is a survivor – running for themselves as healthy living – healthy eating and following their MORMOR on living life to the plus – teaching the rules of being health wary and eating properly.

Marcus dashing to the finish line !

All in all – a great morning outing – cold at 57 degrees with lots of gusting wind – around 700 runners – prizes – and the winner is Health – Nutrition and working for a cure for cancer.

Proud PAPA of this family – and also watching my grand daughters play soccer last night – but that is another blog !

#homeagain #JP #HGD #just

Papas World – she was small but she ruled the roost!

They all called her “MARY”

but to me she was “MOM”!

Everyone would drive by that front porch on main street

Roll their window down –

Wave and say “HI MARY”!

Beeping their horns.

I would ask “Who was that”?

“Oh – just someone” she would reply.

They all knew her – and my sisters and brothers friends

Well – after they were gone – they would still stop in.

Same with mine!

She was almost 98 when she passed

But she still was tough as nails!

I loved her – but more than that –

I respected her – calm – cool and collect.

Aunt Mary – Mom – Mary –

all the same to me.

1967 – senior
ME!

It had rained for many days back in the mid ’50’s.

She told me – “Tommy – don’t go near the water”!

You see – before the dike system was upgraded

our little town of Eldred Pa. would almost flood whenever

we had major rain – and this was one of them.

Most times – not major like in ’42.

But one or two feet of water standing on main street!

This time it was different – there was a lot of water –

and off I went – eventually ending up by the main street water

where I was told not to go!

I guess I can say I have always been a little independent

I am careful – I think before I walk – leap or run!

But this day I thought “NO ONE WILL KNOW”!

That is – out of the blue a photo was taken –

By a man who worked for the area newspaper!

Of a young man who had made a raft and was making

his way down main street –

AND THERE I WAS WATCHING HIM!

Yes – that is me – standing in the water on main street flood!

Exactly where I was told not to go!

WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT!

Mary – Mom – Aunt Mary was small –

cool – calm and collect –

She ruled the house – one day she chased me –

all over the back yard –

until I made it to the front porch and crawled under.

As far back as I could go.

She and my sister coaxed me out-

“This is gonna hurt me more than you” she said.

Don’t believe that!

That day it rained and then the next when the morning paper came

and there I was being where I was not suppose to be!

I admitted it and she smiled –

Mary – Mom – Aunt Mary

Cool – calm & collect

“Tommy – this is going to hurt me more than you”

Don’t believe that!

I sure do miss her – Mommy.

Papas World – A World of trying times – keep smiling!

The end before the beginning – a upside – inside out World!

When one little thing goes wrong –

it cascades – only in my case – it was with the KEURIG

And I forgot to put the CUP in! LOL!

Now imagine – if the top disappeared from your life

and the bottom took it’s place!

In my case – exactly what happened!

I was a fast food junkie –

and then thanks to my wife – we changed

for 14 years now – no fast food –

and I take my WHOLE FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

Of Juice plus – ORCHARD – GARDEN – VINEYARD and OMEGAS

made not from fish oil –

but where the fish get the OMEGAS – JP own ALGAE FARMS!

So my World turned upside down and right side up!

Our World which was normal is now abnormal

and we may not live long enough to see it go back

if it ever does!

So – we evolve – we change and we go on.

That has been the Human evolution since human kind began.

Laugh – think and do new things.

Times have changed – say GOOD MORNING –

Drink you coffee or tea or hot chocolate

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I hope I brought to you words to think about

and I hope you come back

Papa’s World – the adventure begins – touring Northern Calif.

We have been planning this trip for months –

Fly into Sacramento California –

meet up with our friends –

and do a ten day tour !

GOOD MORNING

Our day began at 2:15 AM. on Wednesday morning !

We were being picked up at 3:50 am.

and flying out at 6:00 at Dulles airport –

California here we come !

Arriving at 10:45 am. West Coast time – we gathered our luggage

and caught the shuttle to the Budget car rental.

We then had to go to terminal B – we came into terminal A

and pick up our friends Buck and Cindy McBride

from Wilmington NC.

They were outside waiting as we drove up !

Sherry in our brand new
air B&B
View out the back deck
snake haven as far as I am concerned
Cindy and Sherry preparing for morning walk
They got lost !!!!
A look out the back
somewhere up in the back there
they made the wrong turn
and got lost ! LOL

It was a brand new place – three bedrooms – upstairs – two baths

downstairs – one half bath – kitchen – living room and dining room.

Nice and clean and two miles outside of Reno – our first destination.

But before this

We went first to Historical Sacramento –

Buck and Cindy

Lunch at Rio City Cafe –

Sherry had been here twice before –

She has had a conference on health here twice.

Lunch on the water
A little selfie
on the river

Then we explored –

walking all over Historical downtown Sacramento

Vowing – after we spend three days in Reno

to come back here and do a night of it !

Kids in a candy store
I think they were in heaven

Now – myself – I really do not like this type of candy –

CHOCOLATE – give ME CHOCOLATE !!!

At the El Dorado
Reno

And of course the casino’s –

Buck is a big fan of three card poker

Me – not so much – not sure how to place bets.

So – we did three Casino’s and ended up at the El Dorado

where I WON – $10.00 !!!

Playing video slot poker !

The ladies played the penny slots and lost

Buck would rather not talk about it ! LOL

As soon as I won – I QUIT ! LOL

Only in California
do they cut a top off
and use it for a trailer

Stay tuned – part two is next – we explore Lake Tahoe !

Papas World – Can you IMAGINE !

I have never watched those shows with Zombies

The walking dead – but I look outside and everything seems normal.

It is not like the movie The Quiet Place

The birds are chirping – you hear the planes overhead

not like it was at 911 when the skies went silent

Nor is it like when the DC sniper caused you to hide

behind your car door as you pumped gas at 4:30 in the AM.

Papa and Tom
this past Feb. at Disney Springs

While I have never experienced Zombies and Walking dead

I was in NVA during the sniper attacks

and was in the exact middle of the area affected.

Yes – I had to be at work at 5:00 AM.

And when I needed gas – I did exactly as I described.

And when the skies went silent –

that day where I worked in Alexandria Va.

The Springfield area – the plane flew overhead and hit the Pentagon

I did not see it but heard it – and several of my co- workers

were outside in the parking lot loading customers and saw it!

Now – we are in trying times – from something you can not see.

Yet – it is there stalking –

It is scary – because you can not see it –

But has shut the World down.

Wars come and go – snipers are caught – planes fly again.

I would of never imagined this and how there is no place to hide.

IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!

Yet – we live day to day – we find ways to talk – to see one another.

IMAGINE – A World – brought to its knees and we are surviving.

Sort of WAR OF THE WORLDS IN REVERSE!

No haircut for 80 some days

Just the two of us – but that in itself – we are blessed –

a lot of people have no one.

We are getting through this – we are becoming whole once more

The World has changed – normal has become abnormal

Stay safe – stay having faith –

Believe in humanity

Look outside – see the beauty – smell the air and soak in the sunshine

The birds are chirping – it could be a lot worse

There could be Zombies and A Quiet Place!

As a World – we sill have one another.

We are moving on – one day at a time.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

Papas World – now – the helmet hides the hair!

Life is so different now in Sheltering – we still walk –

ride our bikes – deliver groceries

collect food for the food pantry

and now are on a schedule to bring meals

to a vet and his wife who are home bound.

Resting on the trail – I can walk – but biking is a whole new ball game!

You use different muscles –

plus my bike is acting weird

when I am coasting – it constantly is changing gears

so I never know how it will be when I start peddling again!

Plus it does it when I apply the hand brakes!

The whole World has changed – life is not like we lived it!

We must adapt – and we are.

But – we are ready to explore once again.

I miss being able to drive and stop to eat.

Or pull over and see the beauty of the country.

I wonder what those who have passed away would think of today?

One thing that I have not been able to do –

IS GET A HAIR CUT!

It now has been 75 days!

And it is getting long and curly – which is natural for me!

Back in the ’70’s – I had long hair – although it was tight curls.

And for almost ten years – I rode a motorcycle.

Those days are long gone!

Now days I keep it cut and trimmed – usually every four weeks!

Since I started Juice Plus – it seems to grow faster!

So today – I am going to show you what it looks like now.

The question is ” DO I LET SHERRY CUT IT” ?

Or do I just bite the bullet so to speak and keep going!

All I do now is shower – wash it – towel dry it –

and run my fingers through it!

No comb or brush –

and I put nothing in or on it!

My wife wants me to buy some “STUFF” for it.

She says it will hold the curls more!

So Here It Is!

I will let you be the judge – and comment if you like!

It has been 45 plus years since it has been this long

and it was way longer back then!

Now the abnormal has become the normal

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

Will wait for feed back!

Papas World – things I had to do – risky – so far – good.

During this time of not knowing how this all will turn out

I had to do a couple things that were risky

and I thought long and hard about.

The first was when my front tooth felt different

and it was actually loose!

OBOY – I was in Florida and I thought just get through this

get home and take care of it there.

Then we got home- I made the appointment

and COVID 19 happened!

So I canceled and waited it out!

Then it happened – it broke off – it was a crown –

but I had a gap right in the front!

Now – I had no choice – before it got infected –

I had to go to the dentist – so I made my appointment on line.

They would only do emergency’s.

I was worried – but I went in – they were the only people there

the husband and wife dental team.

He drilled it out – the post – and put in the temp.

No shots – there was no root.

But I would have to be careful and go back

when the crown came in!

That took place over several weeks and it all came out good.

I have my new crown – they were very professional

and there were no other patients there

and they wore gowns – masks – shields – gloves

and stayed away from me when not working on my mouth!

The next thing was the car – I have maintained it right on schedule

for seven years – and it now has 122,000 miles.

I needed a oil change

the last time was back in January just before we left for Florida.

I already was over the mileage and we had driven

a lot of miles while we were in Florida.

So – I made the appointment

and in I went – hardly anyone there!

I waited all by myself

They had put distance between all the seats

and no one was in there.

I got the oil change – replaced a bulb and was on my way!

Yesterday I saw my doctor – by phone!

I now have this app where you go into her office portal

and you can see and talk to her!

Since my heart attack almost seven years ago

I see my two doctors every six months and the one every twelve months.

That part was easy – but they have to draw blood every six months.

So – today I go to the office – where they have one person at a time.

They check your temp. plus she could see me yesterday.

I am feeling good , no head ache – cough – pink eye –

Then – I must wear a mask –

they take me right in – draw the blood and I leave

as quick as possible.

God bless these front line people!

So – during all these I had to make choices

I am healthy – have not taken the FLU shot in 15 years!

I take my Juice Plus and Omegas

I drink water all day – no dairy – very little sugars –

my one vice is coffee with almond cream.

However I am doing a 16 hour shred – fast

I do not eat for 16 hours after my dinner.

And I can have no coffee so I am having a cup of tea in the morning.

I am livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Welcome to Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Thank you

sometimes you just have to trust in your faith

Go in Peace – thanks be to God.

Papas World – Google – Yahoo – AOL – Facebook – OH MY!

Now – I am not this bad – my face book time is first thing in the morning

Sipping my coffee – and then I post my Blog for the day!

I then go to my home page

and MY criteria is to post something funny – something good

something to make you smile and or laugh

and a combination of all the above.

Once I have gone through all that – I will read comments or posts

and then it is time for me to open my mail and start deleting!

For face book I am done for the day! About 45 minutes worth!

The only thing I use GOOGLE for is to bring up YAHOO!

Where if I want to KNOW anything – I search for it!

My wife – Sherry – uses GOOGLE!

For whatever reason – I have always used YAHOO!

What I do not do is repost unproven statements –

I find – unless they are fact checked by me

I am not going to help them destroy our nation.

For that is what they are designed for – to divide and conquer.

I also UN FOLLOW – NOT UNFRIEND

That way we can still communicate

but I do not have to SEE all the negative – hurtful posts!

I also do not forward crazy things

such as you will get $$$$ if you forward this to TEN PEOPLE!

These are designed to get people into your friends lists

and then HACK THEM!

IT IS A SCAM!

There – I said it – I look for positives not negatives.

The reason for my blogs is to tell stories – memories –

about me – my family – friends – and travels

and everyday life.

A journal so to speak – somewhere – after I am gone –

a place to come to and read of my thoughts – ideas and my memories.

Before I am unable to remember and for my family!

Papas World – a Mothers day to remember – covid19

Sometimes – you just have to suck it up – still maintain –

And see your family!

That happened yesterday – Mother’s Day – 5-10 – 20

The year we were sheltering for COVID19 !

We decided after 58 days – and this being a special day

we would make the trip and see the families

while still social distancing.

We have not been to either set of family houses since Christmas.

We left for Florida the 28th. of January –

Came back home March 4th.

and 10 days later went into Sheltering!

The Tree little ones as I call them –

Bode – age 5 – Taylor and Cassidy – age 9.

We miss them terribly – as every day after school they would be here

until one parent picked them up –

and in the morning – Bode and his mother would be here

after she dropped the twins off at school

and wait until Bode had to be at preschool at 9 am.

Sarah – mother Debby – Sherry – Maddy and Ella

The three oldest – even though they are now older

the bond is still there

They live 1 1/2 hours away

But we always attend special events for them.

The social distancing is hard – you want to hug.

But just talking to them – well – it made this a very special day.

As we age – thoughts tend to get lost – memories fade –

but – I think this day because of the virus –

will always be remembered

and we caught it in a picture

to be talked about for years to come!

Mothers day – 2020 – MORMOR – meaning in Swedish – MOTHERSMOTHER!

Papa’s World – at 70 – feeding my brain – keeping memory

What I take every day – double dose – Omega’s by Juice Plus

A couple years ago – The Juice Plus Company introduced a new product.

” The Omega Blend + ” OMEGA’S 3 – 5- 6 – 7 – 9 .

I turn 70 years old in a couple days – and – I am doing what I can to retain memory – both short term and long term. I do not like the ” FISH TASTE” of Omega’s on the market. So when this came out – I was delighted to find out that first – there is no fish taste or after taste , and the win – win for me is it is made out of ALGAE – which is where the fish get the omega from !

I am strict on the fish I eat – no farm raised and only Salmon from North Atlantic . Mercury is a major concern for me – so ALGAE – ( they have their own Algae farms ) was the selling point !

The Omega’s 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 9 – Orange flavor!

Today – I feel that I am doing the most I can – writing this blog keeps my mind sharp

( after all – I am not a TECHIE – so remembering is essential in Blogging )

If you would like more information – yes my wife is a distributor and a guiding force in my life being a certified health coach – you can contact through email at her site : http://www.sf.juiceplus.com and also search the site for research – video’s and information !!!!

I hope this helps you out – I know it has helped me and by the way – the capsules do dissolve after taking them – but if you do not like swallowing capsules – you can open and sip the fluid which to me tastes like a orange creamsicle !

Papa’s World – Laughter – living – health – evolving

Image may contain: 2 people
My thought in life – think young – smile – be involved with your grand kids – and look for the positives and let the negatives roll off your back !

Every day in my life – I look for what is funny and positive – keeping a open mind – I avoid News Channels – seeking information on my own.

I have come to maintain my healthy living style with my wife – Sherry – who is a certified Health Coach – thank goodness for that.

Image may contain: 2 people, including Sherry Overbeck Fitzsimmons, people smiling, eyeglasses and closeup

This June will be our 37 th. anniversary – seems like only yesterday – and next week I turn 70 and in two months she also turns 70.

In marriage as in life – compromise is a must – as is laughter – and in our case travel and family – most important to us is family. We have a close group of a few friends – trying to get together every four or five months.Since we are scattered about over a 400 mile range – sometimes that can be a little daunting.

Image may contain: 6 people, including Michael Myers, people smiling, people sitting and shoes

Our family where we live consists of Five grand daughters and the newest – and only Boy ! As you can guess – he has all our hearts. Both mother’s and their mother – whom is called MORMOR ( Swede for Mother’s Mother) promote healthy living and eating. ALL are on the product called Juice Plus – as well as the Omega’s – from Algae – not fish oil – and try to be gluten free.

The oldest does not eat meat – and has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Lynchburg in Va. We have two more soccer players – a gymnastic – who all the time is doing gymnastic moves – a Equestrian – and a Ballet and Modern dancer.

They are very important to us and I can honestly say – their youth keeps us young in body and mind.

June 25 th. 1982

The years have flown by – we are now watching our grand children going off to college. But – the legacy that we brought forth almost 13 years ago – has been instilled in each and every one of them as well as their parents.

Today – we are living life to the plus one day at a time – walking 3 plus miles a day – doing shreds ( getting rid of toxins ) going dairy free and gluten as much as we can.

And – for me – sharing good thoughts – smiles and interesting family – friends and my life blogs.

My motto through life :

” Do all the small things well and they in turn will take care of the larger things ” ! Hope you enjoyed the read – HGD !!!!

Papa’s World – and then the rains came – lightening – winds – trees down

We had to be at the library at 3:00 PM. on Thursday –

We had stopped at Marcus & Tammy’s to pick up library books

We had the twins and Bode –

and then it started – lightening and thunder.

Good morning

We drove the short distance –

I was going to let them all out in front of the library !

I pulled right into a space right in front of the entrance –

Then literally –

ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE !

The rains came so hard – going sideways with the wind.

It was like a fire hose had been trained on us !

Windshield wipers could not keep up.

The wind picked up – we tuned to 103 TOP news radio – DC.

Gusts of 60 MPH – torrential rain – take cover –

Then the lightening picked up –

Sherry checked her google weather app –

Instead of showing rain –

it was SOLID YELLOW LIGHTENING strikes.

The kids got scared –

the twins went to the floor in the back seat –

Bode came up front to Sherry’s lap –

We could not see out of the car for more than 10 feet!

A head light no more than 20 feet away.
The car with the head light

We calmed the kids down – telling them we had rubber tires beneath us.

There was no chance of getting out and running into the library –

The lightening and thunder was continuous.

Cassidy on floor in back

Cassidy got real quiet she was so scared.

Taylor comforting Cassidy

Taylor clutched her build a bear – talking to Cassidy –

telling her not to touch metal –

we would be okay because we had tires !

Where we parked
Library with roof over hang

We were parked right in front – the over hang was just across the sidewalk

What was really scary was lightening would hit –

A very loud crack and then the wind –

Bending those trees you see almost over touching the sidewalk.

The park right across the street

Legacy park was right across the street –

about a football field away –

This is a 15 acre park –

They closed it right after the storm quit

TREES WERE DOWN !

Legacy Park

Branches were everywhere – it was a mess and so close to us in the car

When it was over after almost 40 minutes –

we went inside.

It continued a soft rain –

We got home and I discovered shingles from our roof in the yard

The flag – flag pole and the bracket had been ripped right off the porch.

Small branches were everywhere

The top 12 feet of our neighbors tree came off-

and lacked the width of a finger

from going through his living room window.

On our walk this morning –

this pond came up 3 to 4 feet

and the feeder streams ares still rushing water into it.

Legacy Park
Legacy park

Less than 300 yards from where we sat in the car.

Legacy Park
Legacy Park

Some of these trees – the roots were bigger than garage doors !

We have not had much rain in the last two months –

and I think that weakened the root systems where the soil

was extremely dried out !

So much for all those in Government who say

” THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE ” !

Papa’s World – SWEET 16 our grand daughter ELLA !

I remember the day all those years ago –

when her mother turned the SWEET 16.

Yesterday – it was Ella – our second to oldest grand daughter !

Ella Myers

When she was little – barely walking – she would run to me –

climb into my lap – or around company – hide behind my legs.

We almost lost her when she was really young –

She got something from a turtle –

and she spent almost a week in the ICU and hospital –

so small and so afraid.

A drawing of a Turtle eating a Strawberry
in Pencil drawn by Ella Myers

Now today – she has a roomful of turtles – pictures – memento’s

drawings – who would of guessed !

TINY as her dad calls her

Through the years – from broken foot – to sprained wrist –

To another broken bone in her foot –

She was stepped on in soccer ( her love)

To coming down the wrong way on it –

Sitting out two years of playing soccer –

to coming named as MVP on her JV team –

as a Sophomore –

Now she is once again ready for travel soccer !

TINY no more.
Almost as tall as Sherry who is 5 ‘ 9 “

Turning 16 – drivers permit

about to start her Junior year –

and after TWO YEARS of sitting out travel soccer

She tried out and made the team as a Midfielder!

And – like her sister – can run !

Without practice – she can run a sub 6 minute mile !

With her tiny admirers

In the picture above – a box of LEGO’S – special box –

And a letter from the both of us

She loves Star Wars – and this is a Star wars lego.

The note reads – you are going to Hollywood Studios in Florida.

You will board a airplane – fly down – stay a week with us –

And spend the day in the new STAR WARS AMUSEMENT PARK –

Reading the letter
A Taco holder made to look like a dinosaur

Ella – like Maddy when she turned 16 ( she swam with the Manatee’s )

will celebrate in Florida with us –

a memory they will both remember for a long time.

Sweet 16 birthday party

Today – her and her friends will tube down a river

Soon – in a few weeks – travel soccer practice will begin.

Her older sister will leave for college to begin her college soccer practice.

But – for one day – as it was those many – many years ago for her mother

SWEET 16 !!!!

ELLA ( tiny ) MYERS

Papas World – Sheltering Day#56 – birthday!

May 7th. 2020 – 71 years old – Pandemic – Social Distancing

Guess I am always going to remember this one!

My wife Sherry – made it a very special day – but she messed up –

and two days before – let the cat out of the bag.

We were going to practice SOCIAL DISTANCING –

BUT – we were going to use our patio which is very large

over 500 square feet and enclosed by a fence and the house

and each family of grand kids will come at specific times

so no one is here at the same time!

My little buddy would also be here
Bode – this picture taken two years ago
gosh – how I miss them all

The first family of Mike – Debby – Maddy – Ella and Sarah

came at 12:30 pm. They parked outback – walked around the back yard

and into the patio –

where we had seating for everyone but at least six feet apart.

They gave me cards they had made – the three girls –

they always make me special crafted cards.

I cherish them and save each one.

Have since they were little!

Now the whole family except Ella – eats very little meat

so we ordered a pizza delivery –

we paid on the site and they delivered

they do not even see you or knock

they text that the pizza is by the front door and then drive off!

We had also fruit – gluten free chips – salsa – wheat less pretzels

And my favorite cake that we made a special trip to WEGMENS

White coconut cream cake! ( which has been years since I had)

We celebrated by each staying in our own seats – laughing –

and then the text – the second group were on their way.

Time to leave – no hugs – but lots of smiles – kind words.

They left – and then it was time to see the little ones and their parents

same routine – the little ones have followed their older cousins

each in turn made special cards and gave to me

(Tammy – Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy & Bode !

How I miss them all.

They dressed up – the little ones – just for this occasion.)

I guess at my age I am sentimental – but to me –

these are the best presents – the cards

for years and years I have saved them!

It will be fun one day to bring them all out and show them

when they are all grown up!

We spent two hours just the same as we did with the older ones.

Sheltering in place on my birthday – strange no hugs –

no handshakes – but – the smiles and laughs.

Earlier I had gotten a call –

From my two sons back in NWPA –

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD” !

I AM BLESSED – my wife made this all happen –

And the boys called me!

What more could I ask for –

A PUZZLE!

Sherry got me another puzzle – 500 pieces!

And a new warm pull over shirt –

which in this freaky Spring of rain and cold

I SHALL WEAR!

Sheltering in place Day# 56 – best birthday ever –

now to get busy and put PUZZLE # 8 together

glad when this is all over!

Welcome to Papa’s World

Papas World – took a little road trip – to buy some seeds

It has now passed TWO MONTHS since I had my HAIR CUT

and today I looked in the mirror

YEP THIS IS ME!!!!! LOL

I have decided to wait as long as I can –

no place to get one anyway

and not that I do not trust her

but my wife is encouraging me to let it go!

Jerry Garcia I am not – but getting there!

So – anyway – we went to a team members house

about one hour and fifth teen minutes away

You see she has started a TOWER GARDEN FARM

with over 20 TOWER GARDENS!

And she also grows and sells seedlings!

Other Tower Garden growers wanted strawberry plants

Which right now at different growers we use from all over the country

Do not have any – so we purchased 60!

We have a small strawberry patch in the ground as seen here.

But wanted to start some in our Tower Garden

and two other team members also wanted some.

After we were there and toured the Towers

She had 10 inside and 10 outside

and quite the operation in various stages

We made our purchases and then drove through the Va. countryside

for another hour and twenty minutes

This whole time we practiced social distancing with our masks.

We arrived at the second team members house

She had set up two tower gardens

and had a whole table full of seedlings growing with grow lights!

And she wanted 31 strawberry plants as she had two more

tower gardens to set up!

One of the two tower gardens
we have set up plus our indoor
tower garden in the garage

We delivered the plants and Friday – the rest of the strawberries

plus a whole tray full of seedlings which two more team members wanted

well we have arranged to meet them while still practicing

Social Distancing!

All in all our little day trip turned into a 6 1/2 hour journey

and over 150 miles

Oh – I might add – we had to leave the house

Our dryer had to be fixed

and the only way was for us to leave and the repairman come in

Such has now become the norm from the abnormal.

Papas World – Sheltering – warm days – seems normal!

We finally had some warm weather a couple days in a row!

Friday – Saturday and Sunday – low 70’s to low 80’s.

Beautiful skies – blue – white clouds and sunshine!

After Sunday supper – I sat down on the front porch and noticed

the clouds were coming in from the South West.

Going to storm I thought – but it was warm –

and I told Sherry if it does and the temps drop

we will have our first Spring Thunder and Lightening storm!

THE GRATEFUL DEAD
To all you deadheads out there!

We had watched our church service streamed live

enjoyed a great breakfast

and decided to walk to our town center 1 1/2 miles away.

So we could get in our three plus mile walk!

When we got over there after walking through the 15 acre park

we saw they had set up the Farmers Market –

with the whole width plus some – the street in between the booths

and each booth had yellow caution tape in front

so you could not get close.

You had to point and tell them what you wanted!

It was very well set up with a large table in the middle of the street

with hand sanitizer on it to disinfect your hands before and after

you made the purchase.

Since it was late and they were closing up –

I do not know if it was cash or credit card or both.

But – next week we are going as they had hanging baskets for $10.00

and Tomato plants for $2.50

( I always buy one to see if I can produce better than the Tower Garden)

I can’t!!!!!

The storm came in later at 10 PM. with lightening and Thunder

and a little bit of rain.

This morning it is warm 59 degrees.

Everything is lush – green and our roses are starting to bloom!

Papas World – Sheltering Day#51 – yard work – planting

Finally – it would be warm all day – mid ’70’s – bright sunshine

Time to get outside after all the rain and cold days!

Even though we have had to stay inside from our walks

The rain has left the lawn thick and lush!

I have now mowed at least a half dozen times – seems like every 4 days

except when it rains and then I sneak it in between showers!

The side yard has really filled in – that has been my problem area

I also started two years ago – putting lime pellets down

in the fall time!

One of the outdoor Tower Gardens – the other is in the enclosed patio

It has been cold at night – high 30’s to mid 40’s –

yet with all the rain and peaks of sunshine – it is growing!

We decided this year LESS IS MORE in planting flowers!

99 % of the greens you see – flower and come up each year

except the green bushes !

So we decided to POT this year with flowers

with three or four in the flower beds

and the rest in the enclosed patio.

It takes me 60 minutes with a push lawn mower

trimming included and weed whacker

to mow the lawn

a few people tell me they no longer do this

but I enjoy it !

It is a form of exercise for me – almost 5000 steps!

And I get the feeling of something I have created

and see the results of all that I have planted in the 14 years!

All of this I have planted by hand and cultivated.

I only wish this bush would look like this all summer

but – after it blooms it loses it petals

and new leaves are formed along with getting larger.

The grass is so soft and spongy like

almost as if you are walking on a carpet.

I have a lawn company called Bio-Turf

for four years now –

and they do a terrific job.

Six different times they come to the house each year

and do all the spreading – plugging – and seeding and lime spreading

VERY HAPPY WITH THEM!

The pot to the right is all MINT
and you can smell it as you walk up the bank
the enclosed brick area is my strawberries
and last year and this year my Potato’s

Our first rose of the year – with many more to come

they will bloom – go away and later in the summer bloom again

The three Swedish horses that Maddy – Ella and Sarah made for us

laying in the bed.

And – with the same theme – one potted planter

everything else comes up each year.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I hope you enjoyed my little tour of the yard

I hope to do the same tour of the enclosed patio.

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papas World – Dentist – collect food – deliver to five families – Sheltering.

The days go by – routines set in –

then the unthinkable – at least to me – happens!

The front tooth crown – number 8 to be exact –

BREAKS off and I had bitten into a piece of bread!

Now – here I am holding it – looking into the mirror –

SHELTERING DAY # 49 – DENTIST!

So – Sherry went onto the dentist site –

They have closed for all except emergency’s!

But – it lets me schedule – 9:30 AM. Next day!

I arrive – 20 minutes early – door locked – no lights

It is pouring out – so I decide to wait – ten minutes

and both dentists show up.

Thank goodness – I would not have to smile missing my front tooth!

I went in and they greeted me – they officially open tomorrow

as per the Governor Ralph Northan of Va.

But – they are caught between a rock and hard place.

They have three employees – of which only one

said they would come back –

The other two say they are making more money staying home!

I believe in the stimulus – but to me this is wrong.

If the state is opening up slowly and your job is there

then you should go back or risk your job is gone.

So – they give me two different ways to fix this.

One – replace the crown – but – because the walls of the tooth

are narrow – it just might break off again – but maybe not!

Two – have a implant – bone graft – and it would be months long!

We do not have dental insurance

Had it when we worked – but always ended up paying a lot!

So – I looked at cost for each and they would give me a discount on both!

I did not want to go through a implant as I have had two of those done.

I selected the crown – without novocaine as the root was gone.

After it was done – he told me he was surprised

at just how strong it was! WIN FOR ME!

Now – today – we will drive to LINK – our County FOOD PANTRY!

Tammy dropped off food she had collected from her neighborhood.

Still Social Distancing – I opened garage door and the trunk.

She filled it up along with what we had already gathered!

We also volunteered for the month of May – to deliver food to families.

Today – we have FIVE FAMILIES to deliver to.

We have our instructions – texted then ahead of time –

We just leave the bags at their door!

These families – this is the only food they have.

And we have been collecting for three weeks.

The list of families has gone at least five times as high

since no jobs!

We need to help these people and make our great country

GRATEFUL in GIVING.

We have done all this while Sheltering – except for the dentist

I have not come in contact with anyone for 49 days!

I am praying that my dental appointment

will be okay – they both were covered

head to toe – masks – shields gloves.

I feel grateful to them and also saddened

in that they also are struggling

and haveing to go through this with their employees.

These times require some strength –

Maybe a drink or two –

But also a time of gratitude –

to be able to help those less fortunate

Giving – sharing and praying

Just another 24 hours in my life!

Papas World – Day # 47 – Sheltering – HAIR – HAIR!!

Well – you know it is time when you start scratching your head! LOL!

At least that is what happens to me as my hair gets long!

But – the NOISE from NEWS has me also scratching my head!

It is not like you can go outside and protest – although some have!

And – not keeping SOCIAL DISTANCING!

Since I write – save and schedule a couple weeks in advance

The talk now is some are easing into reopening

while others are jumping in feet first and no masks on their heads!

I do not know how this will unfold –

but I do know that with this as with most other things

It will become ( pardon the expression)

A pissing match and both sides of the aisle

will once again go at each others throats!

Here I am – stuck in the middle

Jokers to the left

Clowns to the right!

But – this is society – always has been

and it seems always will be.

We seem to self destruct and makes you wonder

just how have we managed this for thousands and thousands of years?

So – I write – not knowing what the subject will be!

You see – as I post on face book – every day – I post FIVE THINGS!

To make you smile – to be happy – make you think and provide

a good thought for the rest of your day!

Which – today – I SAVED TO MY BLOG SITE

and Shared them one by one – and not being able to see them clearly

before I share as when saved they are so small I can’t see them!

So – I decided to write as I shared them –

and this blog reflects just that!

I see stories in my mind – I see memories –

I can not explain it – nor do I understand it!

Once again – I share my thoughts

and right now my hair is long –

as always with me – it makes me scratch my head!

But as always I write – I conjure up thoughts

And thank the Lord at my age I can still do this!

Papas World – Day# 44 – I need a haircut – going back to my youth!

My oh my – I told Sherry several weeks ago – you might want to cut my hair!

But then I decided – the heck with it – you see –

back in the late ’60’s and through the ’70’s

I had long hair and rode a motorcycle

Just a freedom of expression.

I was not for the WAR in NAM.

I had friends who were recruited and drafted

and some never made it back.

I also was in a car accident when I was a senior in H.S.

and spent 51 days in the hospital –

not knowing if I would ever walk again.

Me my Senior year

I was never drafted – but I went to work one week after graduation

I had too – and 47 1/2 years later

I retired from that same company.

So – that was my time of having long hair all those years ago

The problem at least in my mind – my hair is natural curley

So – I looked like Carrot Top only light brown!

I was a Toe Head growing up!

Today – it has been almost two months without a haircut

and since I started Juice Plus 14 years ago

my hair grows really fast – so much that to keep it from covering my ears

I get a haircut every four weeks!

So – I am over due by four weeks and today it is

a Silver – curly gray – white and long!

I have no idea how long this will last but I am not going to expose myself

to this horrible virus –

do you know that now it has surpassed ALL other illness’s

including Heart and Cancer to become number one cause of death

in our great country!

And all in seven weeks with Social Distancing and Sheltering

in place!

So – here I am – fast becoming a HIPPIE once again! LOL

Thinking back all those years ago

The wind in my hair as I rode my bike –

That was before mandatory helmets

And – just after that phase – I met my wife to be.

Now today she will see just what she missed or –

not missed – as it was as curly as this picture.

Papas World – Sheltering – Day # 43 – THE LADIES!

When we married – each for the second time 38 years ago

She brought into my life two beautiful daughters.

I raised them as my own as she helped me raise my two sons.

Today – after all these years – we remain close –

And they have become the THREE LADIES IN MY LIFE!

Debby – Sherry & Tammy

They are married now – one living 10 miles away

with a set of twin girls – both nine.

And the only boy ( grandson) who is five.

The other lives 65 miles away –

and has three teen age daughters

One in college – two at home!

Maddy – soon to be 20
Ella – soon to be 17
and Sarah – soon to be 14
taken as we celebrated my 60th birthday.

While we do not see them as often as we do the younger ones

and now in day #43 of SHELTERING –

Sherry asked me when this is over –

What is the first thing you want to do?

See our family I said.

My sons live seven hours away.

Back in NWPA

We try to get back there when we can.

But that is hard to do.

So we call them – catching up –

My youngest son has his own Energy Auditing business

and contracts with the state and power companies.

My oldest son runs the crews for him.

We are very proud of all four

and when this is over will sometime this summer make that trip back home.

The days seem to run all together –

although Sherry remains very busy in her internet stay at home business.

Her monthly check has increased.

Health and nutrition and growing your own produce

fits in this time of Sheltering.

Debby and Tammy
all those years ago

Today I cherish my LADIES in my life.

We all are here for each other

and both have followed in their mothers footsteps

Sharing – selling – and teaching good health and nutrition.

Papas World – Sheltering Day# 40 – puzzles – memories

It seems only yesterday – Florida – family vacations –

and WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG!

After 40 days – your mind tends to wander a bit.

You put puzzles together

for me under 500 pieces and must be

RAVEN BURGER!

You walk around the house a lot

and you look at pictures on the walls

Your wife digs out the old photo books

and you stop each time you pass the bedroom

where they sit piled neatly stacked on the bed.

All those years ago
Debby and Tammy

The memories come flooding back

the trips to church for youth group

the after school pickups for cheerleading

and basketball and soccer.

The stops at the cider mill for doughnuts and apple cider

the ice cream store

A little town and a neighborhood of close friends

Still to this day we keep in touch!

Upper right Jim and Dottie
friends since we played softball
I attended their wedding some 40 years ago
Lower left Mike and Carol
neighbors for 12 1/2 years
playing jokes on each other
Lower right Buck and Cindy
neighbors and friends for almost 40 years
traveling the world together

Now – the girls are grown with families of their own

The three oldest grand daughters
now 19 – 16 and 13
soon to be 20 – 17 & 14!
Maddy – Ella & Sarah

You wander the house – looking at pictures while sheltering in place

You need a repairman for the fridge – the ice still works

but no water for cups – barely two years old.

It is time for the maint. on the air conditioners

you have a contract plan

the dryer is squeaking

all part of being a home owner.

Before the virus
the three little ones
9 – 9 & 5
soon they will be 10 – 10 & 6
Cassidy – Bode and Taylor

40 days and counting – you watch the news – read the paper

your 401 K is way down

yet – you go on –

memories of times gone by

What was abnormal
now is the norm

But through all of this – one constant remains

Sunday mornings – you sit at your kitchen table

and at 10 am. the live stream begins

Church is still there

God – if you are a believer

is still there – you pray and give thanks

you donate through the app

you still see the help we provide for those less fortunate

40 days Sheltering

Yes – it has been a long time –

a time to reflect – a time to think –

and a time to know your inner strength comes from

FAMILY – CHURCH – FRIENDS & PRAYERS

Papas World – SHELTERING Day# 39 – GOOD DEEDS!

In these times – we have found that the smallest of deeds

bring the biggest rewards!

There is a lady – I call her the CAT LADY!

Simply because she recuses cats!

But – she is in need of newspapers –

so every two weeks we save up our Washington Post

and make the 8 mile drive to deliver them to her front door!

Texting her that they are on her door step!

In the past – we have delivered groceries for our food pantry

called LINK!

Now – we are reaching out in this time of need for donations

to this food pantry – which is aided by the churches in the area.

Usually once a month each congregation collects food

at their services and takes it over.

Since there are no physical services

ours are streamed on line –

The food is not being collected.

Last week we put out a appeal

and Sherry and I took four bags to the drop off site.

We are doing it again this week – people drop off at our front porch

and we in turn take it to the food pantry.

With the shut down – more families need this food!

Staying in touch with local friends

Taking a hot meal to a neighbor who has had a bone marrow transplant

exchanging puzzles with friends and neighbors

Exchanging a onion or face masks with friends

dropping face masks off at the church mail box

for the youth leaders aging grand parents

It all has to do with small deeds – kindness –

giving what you can and knowing how it makes you feel

in this time of SHELTERING!

And then at the end of the week –

Social hour ( hours) with friends who are apart by hundreds of miles

Seeing the smiles – sharing the laughter –

GOOD DEEDS come in small packages.

SHELTERING
Day# 39
We shall beat this

Papa’s World – living healthy through my grand kids !

A few days ago –

I saw a post that stated ” GRAND PARENTS REMAIN YOUNG ” while watching their grand kids ! Boy – that was right on !

As most of you know – Sherry and I – pick up the twins from school -bring them home until their father picks up the youngest ( only boy grandchild) and then stops to pick up the twins !

Tammy opened her store almost one year ago – Kids consignment store – which is open every day except Monday 10 am. – 5 pm.

So – they needed help and we stepped in along with Marcus’s parents Jennie and Gehard. Since Bode’s preschool is close to them – they pick him up at 1:00 pm. and then Marcus goes after work to pick him up.

Now I must say – I really enjoy my little trip to the school – a little over one mile away. “PAPA – BE FIRST IN LINE ” is what they tell me. Well – even though I am in line one hour before they get out – most times I am second !!! That person must get there after breakfast !But – I use that time to listen and read !

Listening to my favorite radio station – not classic rock or country or rap or whatever else is out there – but ” SPORTS RADIO” 106.7 The Fan! I enjoy kicking back – using a couple wadded up blankets – for a pillow – and just spacing out listening to the talk show. This relaxes me and yes sometime I catch a quick 10 minute power nap ! When I was working – I used my lunch – one hour – every day to do the same thing ! Habits are hard to break !

But – I also listen to these two little girls – talking – conversing and sometimes a argument breaks out ! Now at that time I either look back and tell them to stop or I turn up the radio so loud – that they become silent ! LOL But I find they actually talk so much like adults – on their own daily lives.

Being with them makes me feel young at heart – relating to them – and oh my goodness – the questions are endless – and” WHY” is always asked.

But – then it gets adult like with the answer ” OF COURSE ” or ” ACTUALLY ” or “PAPA” ! I love that – and it makes you think when you answer the “WHY” !

” WHY ARE YOU NUMBER TWO AND NOT NUMBER ONE ” ? I get that one almost every week ! But – how can you argue the fact that life is about staying young even though it might only be a frame of mind !

Turn back time – can’t – capture thoughts words and deeds in pictures – you can – but staying young is a art that we all try to master.

Mine is a matter of mind over physical – thinking – acting and doing! I may not be number one in line but I think I try harder at being number two – after all – “PAPA – WHY AREN’T YOU NUMBER ONE ” keeps me on my toes each week to give a answer and that my friends keeps me young !

#homeagain #HGD #just #JP

Papa’ s World – Healthy living – one day at a time

How many ways do you say ” I LOVE YOU ELLA ” !

The twins gravitate toward their cousin Sarah – Bode – his idol is Ella.

It has been this way ever since he could walk and talk. ” Is Ella going to be there ” ? he will ask. Ella is our second oldest grand daughter – who will turn 16 this July. Bode is our youngest gran child

and the only boy out of SIX ! He turns FIVE in November . As you can see here – he absolutely adores her. ” Ella – you want to play “? he asks.

Both have been brought up eating Healthy – as have all the grand kids. That is priority number one for their parents – even though they both are cousins – it runs in the family.

This was taken before Ella’s soccer game and during her older sister’s game. Both play – Maddy is the starter on Midfield – varsity and Ella starts as midfielder on the J.V. team.

The varsity is 8 wins 2 loses & 1 tie.

The J.V. are 7 wins 1 loss & 3 ties.

Very proud of these two and Maddy signed a Letter Of Intent to play soccer at The University of Lynchburg in Va. We will make trips to watch her play.

Bode loves his cousin and she in turn choose to sit with him prior to her game – she has the biggest heart and to see them was priceless.

We all practice living to the plus – being together – and supporting one another. This is but one more day in PAPA’S WORLD .

And Bode supports his Ella !

Papa’s World – hanging with Rad ( Radoslav Lorkovic)

Not many times in your life you get to hang out with a classically trained

Folk and Blues musician – who has produced three live albums

and five critically acclaimed sole recordings !

RAD

Sitting in church a few weeks ago –

the announcement came that August 10, 2019 –

A folk concert with Rad and Ronny Cox – movie and TV star –

and a folk singer in his own right –

would perform –

And if anyone could open up their home

and welcome them as guests for one night

To let them know after church.

The day began when they arrived around 3:00 pm.

They had preformed the night before –

and after small talk –

I showed them to their rooms –

where they both rested prior to getting ready for the nights concert.

We did manage to it down for 30 minutes or so and talk.

Rad is very unique in that he also plays the Accordion

Which is dear to my heart – because my mother also played it !

She traveled to lumber camps and played music

My father played the spoons and my uncle Jack the wash board.

Rad on the accordion

His music was haunting

and later I asked him how much he and Ronny practiced together –

Not at all –

have played together for 13 years –

Ronny lives in LA. Rad in Chicago

Ronny’s agent plans their adgenda

then they meet up at whatever airport they need to be at

and any new songs or music they just blend it together !

Rad on the keyboard with the piano also

Born in Croatia and moving to the U.S.A. at a early age –

He grew up in Idaho and now resides in Chicago-

But also has a condo in Croatia.

Tom – Ronny Cox – Sherry and Rad

He has played in Carnegie Hall –

The Kennedy Center

along with small settings of taverns on the upper Mississippi River –

To castles in Italy –

the Yup’ik villages of Alaska –

to being along side such greats as Odetta – Jimmy LaFace –

Shawn Mullins – Greg Brown – Ellis Paul to name a few.

Rad -Sherry and Ronny Cox

His life is a adventure – traveling the World –

Hosting cruises to Croatia –

Spending time with his girlfriend in Chicago

and playing music with the Movie star – actor –

and known Folk singer Ronny Cox –

For 13 years they have traveled to little venues

Sherry and Rad in our home

Every once in a while –

a special time is presented –

This was but one of them!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
