Papa’s World – Last Sunday – Church Goodbyes!

Community Lutheran Church – Sterling Va.

It is never easy saying goodbye!

For 15 years we have called this our home church.

After we moved to NVA in 1999 –

it took us over six years to find a place of worship

A place to be happy with and in.

So it came to be – on Sunday – at the end of the service outdoors

in the center of the main parking lot

Pastor Annabel called us forward

to stand befroe the congregation

receive a blessing and say goodbye.

Sherry and Papa and Pastor Annabel

I have never been good at these type of things

First because I did not know what to say

and second – even if I did – I couldn’t

I am emotional –

I write much better than I talk.

Playing of the trumpets
The altar and music in the center
Finally at last – a real service – be it outdoors

For one last time – we gathered as a family and in-laws

to be at our last service before we head South.

Taylor and Cassidy – they will miss us – taking them to choir
Bode our little granson
Cassidy next to her MorMor ( mothers mother)

We will be back for Christmas if they are having services!

We will search for a church in whatever our new location shall be.

The little ones

Saying goodbye is never easy

saying hello is much easier

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

For the time being until we find our next church

Papa’s World – lessons in life

Here we are – just a few days away from packing up

and leaving for our five month rental of a condo

in North Myrtle beach!

That has gone by so fast!

We have been living with our two daughters

and their family’s

going back and forth.

We have also been traveling and seeing friends.

Our lives from the past fourteen years

have changed in dramatic form!

We sold our home – most of the furniture

rented a storage unit for mostly personal things

and set our sights on going further South

To explore our options

NO MORTGAGE NO TAXES NO HOA FEES

In other words – we are vagabonds – not quite homeless

and searching for what we want to do next!

Grand children minus one in college

We will miss them – but – we are free to travel back and forth

and we will see them as often as we can.

We have purchased a new car – after seven years and 126,000 miles

So we made the change – pandemic and all.

It was time – the housing market had rebounded

We do not know what the future holds

But – now – at our age – is the right time.

Tammy and Debby

It will not be easy for them

as they both followed us here to NVA 21 years ago

But – we promise to be back often.

And now you will have a place to vacation to come to.

The Sun sets on this part of our lives

But begins with a Sunrise on the next part.

Remember the good times

and think of the memories we shall make in the future

We will once again begin new lessons in life

and those lessons will include all of you

with much love – Papa & MORMOR

Papa’s World – The tour of the Capital continues

GOOD MORNING

As we continued on the tour

I noticed the plaques over doors leading into historic rooms

The old Supreme Court room used from 1810 to 1860 – 50 years !

Historic room
Historic room

I could not help but wonder-

” IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK ” !

Historic room

Everything was just decorated in elegance.

Sherry with our tour guide Henry

We went into and out of so many rooms I lost track of just what they were !

Historic room
The many historic events
that would of happened here !
The room under the Rotunda
where George Washington was to be interred
and his wishes were to be interred
on his own property
at Mount Vernon

The artwork and floors were just beautiful –

The walls and statues and the deco work on the walls

We walked in wonder – I was amazed at seeing History !

I have loved History all my life –

this day I felt I walked among it !

The ceiling of the Rotunda
Looking up
the wall
and all the reliefs
The Rotunda
where Presidents
have been viewed

The statues – the floor – the walls and the ceiling

spoke centuries of thought to me.

Each state has a statue
or more !

There are so many statues – that we were told –

They had to move them to another room

as the weight was causing structural damage to the floor.

That room had been closed off for interior work being done!

The original statue
that was to be placed on the dome
was too heavy
so they made a lighter one
that now stands and faces
the executive branch
watching to over see JUSTICE

WHERE FRIENDS MEET FAMILY

Papa’s World – A brand new car – after SEVEN YEARS!

2020 Rav4 XLE Hybrid

We bought our last car in 2013 –

and in seven years – 126,000 miles!

Yes – we do travel the roads –

and the main thing we wanted –

was gas mileage!

Our Prius V 3 wagon – Toyota – got 40 to 44 MPG!

WE LOVE TO GOLF

That car had exceptional room when you put the seats down.

And we knew when we move to South Carolina for five months

along with everything we must take – the clubs also were going!

Roof rack and basket carrier

We could do it – but it would be packed to the ceiling

and we would not be able to see out the back!

This one – we wanted the Roof rack –

and then we went and bought a basket carrier and installed it!

We also ordered a soft side roof top carrier!

Our old car had no roof racks!

Sherry does everything on her phone!

So now – we are in the learning process as this car does everything

and then some through your smart phone!

But – one thing we found out is that Sherry must have her phone

when we travel for her internet business

and it must be free to do this – so we plug in my phone

as I really do not like phones and mostly take pictures with mine! LOL

That way when we google maps – there is no interference

As we are driving and getting directions!

YES – I HAVE TO HAVE DIRECTIONS!

Or I will get lost!

This car also has a ton of safety features – which Sherry loves!

All pertain to driving – blind side – auto lights –

cruise control radar ( it can almost steer itself)

It will detect a car in front and behind you.

A wide vision when backing up with guide lines!

PLUS IT REALLY LOOKS SLEEK!

There are many – many more extras

and some we are just learning how to use!

The main thing is gas mileage – and this one has it!

Right now we are averaging 42 to 44 MPG!

And – even though I have not used it – POWER!

IT IS A HYBRID WITH POWER!

It has three different modes –

One is ECO – going back and forth from gas to battery!

Two is power – Gas only with a three speed manual transmission.

Three is battery – battery only – you can travel about 1 1/2 miles.

And it is fast going zero to sixty – if you want to.

Our Prius V wagon 3 served us well for seven years.

Now we have a road trip vehicle with storage on the roof

and storage – a little more room inside

and capable of good gas mileage!

WHERE FRIENDS MEET FAMILY

Papa’s World – when I write – I express my thoughts!

My thoughts and words – relate to my own life

and that of the people who are dear to me!

Marcus Tammy Debby Mike Sherry

My family – whom we are close to –

They were all there for me when I had my heart attack

almost seven years ago – A WIDOW MAKER –

I was told by the staff!

You should not be here they said!

BUT – you are the most healthy heart attack victim

we have ever had in here – they also said!

YEAH – I WAS –

but I had done all the damage for 40 years

until I switched lifestyles

and started my journey to health

and was guided by my wife – SHERRY –

who became a Certified Health Coach

through courses by Doctor William Sears

and the teachings of Doctor Pam Popper

and a few doctors from the Cleveland Clinic.

Ella Bode Cassidy Taylor Sarah – my WHY!

Now – today – we practice healthy eating

and have passed it onto our children and grand children

Everyone in these pictures – follow our example.

We are partners in The Juice Plus Company –

have been for 15 years!

And so have these kids – as long as they have been alive.

Growing – listening – following – example –

all part of our life together

Living by example

Tammy and Debby

These two believed in us from the start

and you can see in them the healthy way of life.

This day we went hiking on part of the Appalachian Trail

only a few miles from THE DIRT FARM BREWERY!

Yes – we do relax – a three mile hike up and down the trail.

Then here to sit outside in Social distance

and allow ourselves to have a drink as a treat.

I sometimes go weeks and months

without a beer – I really do not like wine

or the hard stuff- only light beer.

This day we had all the grand kids except the oldest who

is in college at The University of Lynchburg playing soccer.

Bode is the only boy and he adores Ella

Yes – when I write I express my thoughts

in both words and pictures

putting them down – and saving them for the people

you see in this blog for generations to come.

GENERATIONS

For – you see – Sherry’s team – countrywide –

is called TEAM GENERATIONS –

for the very reason you see in this picture

passing on health to all the GENERATIONS to come.

Our legacy – which started 15 years ago and now is passed onto

the third generation –

lives through us –

TEAM GENERATIONS

Started by a MOTHER & TWO DAUGHTERS

Now extended across the country

Making children healthy

one day at a time!

TEAM GENERATIONS!

Papa’s World – On the way – we took in DC.

GOOD MORNING

This day we were on our way for a appointment at 10:30 AM.

To tour the Capital building and see a session of Congress !

However – little did we know – that we would get caught in TRAFFIC !

What should of been a 30 minute drive with traffic to the Metro

turned into one and one half hours !

Only to find all parking garages were full as were the next two stations!

We then made our way thru more traffic nightmare

To the Tyson’s Corner Mall where we parked and took the Metro.

We had to call and see if we could reschedule the appointment –

And the moved it to 12:30 PM.

Jo Paul Sherry

which normally takes

Papa’s World – Martin Luther King Jr. memorial- D.C.

Our last tour of this day –

The memorial of Martin Luther King Jr.

next to the tidal basin

Across from the Jefferson Memorial.

The Jefferson Memorial

I could not help but wonder –

if every man is created equal

then why ( economics) were there slaves !

Sherry – Jo and Paul

The statue is gazing across the basin as if to ask that very question.

No truer words spoken

Today we think back knowing what we know-

Yet – generations have come and gone

and that rancor still remains

Paul and Jo

“I took a picture of one of the sayings – I could not help myself in walking around and taking a picture of each ” Paul Peterson

This was our first visit here

I found it profound and troubling at the same time

Jo and Paul

Profound that it took so long

Troubling because 400 years later –

it still exists .

Today – twitter seems to dominate
and those that follow are as sheep
Today I stand with reason
I stand with comprehension
I wield my vote
and I communicate in church
with my faith
Sherry and Jo
Pondering what they see

Today –

we must not let those in power move us backward

with fear and hateful words

but reflect on our teachings

from those of a much kinder generation

Thank you for letting me share this with you

Papa’s World – Fluffy clouds – Rainbows – storms are coming – watching the sky

I am a sky watcher – the sunrise and clouds –

Planes – blue skies – and dark skies.

I watch as storms roll in – only to disappoint – no rain!

Since coming here to our daughters and son in laws house

it would take me two hands to count the number of times

I looked up and there it was – A RAINBOW!

No rain – but it must be in the distance!

Sometimes I was able to get a picture –

other times not!

Watching the skies – billowing clouds –

You think – is that going to be rain?

And then you see –

Another rainbow – no it does not seem like rain!

But then –

Through the sunlight – comes the rain –

and behind the house was the rainbow.

FLUFFY CLOUDS -RAINBOWS – STORMS ARE COMING –

Papa’s World – Touring Washington DC.

GOOD MORNING !

The Silver line Metro – in one years time –

The new last stop will be 4 miles from our house

but until then – we must drive to Reston Va.

With no traffic – a twenty minute drive.

Before that – it was Falls Church being the closest stop.

Jo and Paul

This day our objective were to arrive in Foggy Bottom

In the midst of Geaorgetown University

Then walk down the hill to the Lincoln Memorial

It turned into a beautiful day –

Cloud cover – slight breeze – not too hot – a pleasant walk.

Sherry Jo Paul
walking Georgetown University
to the Lincoln Memorial
Paul Jo Sherry
almost to the
Lincoln Memorial

In the twenty years we have lived here

we have made that walk a dozen times or more

The first time was with our daughter Tammy

We had come down to Va. from N.Y.S.

For the job interview for Sherry and myself

as we were transferring with in the company.

We wanted to move South and I had had it with my job

While walking this very same route

We were in the midst of thousands of motorcycles

Every square inch of green space were parked bikes of all kinds.

As we got closer we could hear THE ROAR !

We had by chance encountered our very first

” ROLLING THUNDER”

250,000 Motorcycles –

coming across the 14 th. street bridge

and right down Constitution Avenue !

With the Lincoln Memorial right there !

The Lincoln Memorial

Let Freedom Ring – Ride – ROAR !

That crossed my mind as we made our way to the steps

We have been doing this for twenty years –

we are blessed !

This was a first for Paul and Jo

never had they been here

Jo had fallen six months ago ( playing basketball with Paul )

and had broken her hip

Paul has been having problems with his disks in his back

from all those years of long distance running

They were suppose to visit last April

when all this happened

So we were not sure just how much or far they could walk

BUT THEY DID IT !

” THE WALL “

Papa’s World – I write a blog – livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa and Sherry

My inspiration to write-

“YOU HAVE TO PUT THESE SOMEWHERE THAT WE CAN FIND THEM”!

Thus was born my blog.

And as of today – around 340 blogs are stored there!

THIS IS MY WHY!

I have always wanted to write – even though I can not spell!

And I struggle with English Comp.

But – I find just putting my thoughts into words

and posting pictures – a way for future generations

to read and see what our life was like.

I wish my parents had been able to do this.

I write about family – journeys – friends –

past memories from childhood ( before they are lost forever)

about daily happenings – a diary of sorts.

My late brother Roger and Sherry

He was also my friend – close – and my boyhood hero.

The person in my life I love the most.

We have been together for over 39 years – married 38 years.

Writing a bolg is simple and easy for me.

I love to tell the story.

Last year we hosted the movie and – TV and stage star Ronny Cox

best known for the movie Deliverance.

His songs are stories – some made up – other true

and some a little bit of both.

He told me ” I AM A STORY TELLER”!

And so am I!

Papa’s World – looking forward – vagabonds!

This move has gone easier than I thought it would!

We had to go back to the old house to pick up mail

that somehow did not get forwarded.

A long time ago in Williamsburg Va.

Sherry asked me “Do you miss it”?

No – I said – we spent 14 years here –

and the thing I miss the most is the yard

and all the trees and bushes I planted.

And the other thing is the walking trails!

We had almost 18 miles of walking trails!

Those I miss as I look around driving through the neighborhood.

The thousands of times we walked that sidewalk or that road

to get to the paths.

To walk we never needed to drive anywhere!

Or to ride our bikes!

It was all there!

At a conference for The Juice Plus Company

We always traveled out of state –

we have many friends across the nation.

So – now we have no ties to a home!

And we have plans – five months in North Myrtle Beach

WHY?

Because we want to explore our options

just to see if we like that area!

We also want to check out the Va. Beach area and into N.C.

I am waiting to see how the packages will work

at our new address! LOL!!!!

We will meet up with our oldest friends –

We will explore their area.

But for now – like the song says

“NO SHOES – NO SHIRT – NO WORRIES”!

“NO MORTGAGE – NO TAXES – NO HOA”!

Papa’s World – The first time I met Bill – Sherry’s father.

We had been dating for a couple months – and now it was time

she told me – to meet her parents!

I had a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix and this was 1981.

It was a burgundy red with a half white leather top.

All leather inside to match the burgundy and bucket seats!

My thought was maybe he would like the car

and then like me! LOL

So goes a nervous mind of a 31 year old!

Bill was a man – and a vet of WWII.

Serving in the war and told me a few stories.

Sherry told me he had been in a motorcycle accident some years before.

And had been injured really bad

to the point he almost died.

He was a master carpenter and did all the remodeling

on their home – building additions

and was currently building a chimney

and facing it with bricks as we drove up and parked.

She told me just be normal – but he was imposing – 6′ 2″

Sherry got her height from him and his personality

I was later to find out.

She reminds me so much of him.

We got out of the car

and he later told me he thought I was a State Trooper

because I looked like a State Trooper friend of his named Carl.

Sherry Debby Bonnie standing just to the right of the front porch he had put on and was facing the chimney with bricks

He stopped as we walked up and she introduced me and we shook hands.

It was a firm grip – a grip of a Vet and father if you know what I mean.

He had Three daughters – Sherry being the oldest.

We both had been married before

and man I was nervous.

Debby Sherry Bonnie

But – after a few words he made me feel at home

and ever since that day – he became a second father to me.

Teaching me all about construction –

I still can not master it but at least I know some things!

My own father passed when I was 19 and the last years of his life

he spent in a battle with lung cancer.

Bill loved to cook – as did Barb – but I remember him standing

in the kichen at the stove watching over the fry pan

making breakfast – smiling that crooked grin he had.

Sherry Bonnie Debbie Barb Bill

That first day back then started a friendship

that lasted some 18 or 19 years until he passed away.

He told me many a story – both about the War

and his early life growing up in Ludlow

where my brother in law Bill grew up.

Cindy Tom ( Papa) Sherry

We have been together 39 1/2 years Married 38 years

and every time I look at her

I see Bill – certain little things I notice.

And a lot of people tell her that I look like her father

some who did not know us asked if I were his son.

Tom ( Papa) Sherry

Yep – that day in 1981 I drove my car up the driveway

and by the way – he liked that car!

Just another day of memories

and one that I cherish to this day-

THE DAY I MET BILL!

Papa’s World – the skies of a storm coming – beautiful!

I walked outside – we are staying with Tammy and Marcus.

They were on vacation – Sherry & I were alone.

Everywhere I looked to the sky –

was just awesome!

OUT FRONT FROM THE PORCH!

Sherry told me that she had a weather alert!

That is when I walked out onto the front porch.

I turned to the left and saw this after looking straight to the West.

Our new car parked alongside the road

as they were sealing the driveway the next day!

Then I walked to the edn of the porch and snapped this picture.

It was different in every direction!

I then went back inside and out the back door –

Again it was different!

There was yellow – orange – purple – blue – white – gray

and some deep pink!

The storm was suppose to start around 9 PM.

Flash flood alerts –

Stay off the roads –

High winds and take shelter!

The calm and beauty before the storm.

Later that night it hit –

Lightening – thunder and lots of rain.

I love a storm – and it will drum me to sleep!

And this one did!

Midnight – Sherry thought to wake me up and move the car.

The next day we were suppose to have the driveway sealed.

So – I had parked by the road and ditch.

She was worried the ditch would fill –

So – after trying to wake me up to no success

Off she went in the rain and moved the car back to the driveway!

She is a angel – me – for some reason I would not wake up!

We had FIVE INCHES OF RAIN IN THREE HOURS!

She had 18 alerts on road closings –

wash outs and rescues being taken – nine people!

I slept right through it!

The calm before the storm got me!

Always loved a good storm –

Next time I vow to be more alert!

Many years ago – Jim – Dottie – Sherry and I

with our families – would vacation together

at various beaches

and when they were young

I would help carry the little ones!

Katie – my little friend

Here is Katie – my little friend – as she said I was the only friend she had!

I would carry her through the sand dunes

only to get to the beach and discover one of her little shoes was missing!

All these years we kid each other on being the only friends

either one of us had!

My – how the years have gone by – she is still in my heart

“MY LITTLE FRIEND”!

Papa’s World – A little game called MASH BALL!

Starting the week – I had no idea what it was –

sort of a small version of Beer Pong!

At first they played it on the cement pad around the pool

which got really hot!

Then they found some “NOODLES”

that had been thrown away by the previous guests in the garbage

and rigged it up to float!

That was a game saver!

Everyone took their turn – if you won – you played on!

Hours and hours in the shallow end

just dip down in the water to cool off!

You kept one hand on the floating game board to keep it steady

and there were ten open cups

When you put a ball in the open cup

you placed a red dish in it –

when you filled all ten red cups

you won the game!

Mash Ball on one end – then the deep part – and then shallow again
After Mash Ball was over then nap time was over and the little ones came out to play
Little ones with parents and grand parents
Kathy and Katie
Sherry with Sarah and Ella

Pool time became more and more as it got really hot on the beach.

A couple guys would go and set up on the beach

but with little kids – it was easier by the pool

the sand was so hot – even with sandal’s on

It would burn your toes!

Papa’s World – I suggest when you rent a beach house you must have a pool!

When the beach is so hot – and the waves huge –

And tons of jelly fish – then retreat to the pool!

We had little ones with us and they could not cope with the waves.

So a lot of time was spent right here poolside!

Of course when it is NAP TIME –

the adults come out to play!

And SHADE – you must have chairs and SHADE

and a little TIKI HUT with fridge!

Of course a game of MASH rigged up to float

at the far end of the pool

kept everyone occupied and cooled off!

And bring your grand children to the beach

to create the memories of their childhood.

And of course your favorite brew of choice!

Sherry

Make sure you have comfortable seats

to rest your kindle on!

And a big pool for everyone to enjoy!

Papa

Yes – when you book a beach house

make sure it has a pool

you most likely will spend more time there

as Sharks start feeding in the twilight

and the pool always has entertainment

Be music from a speaker – shade from the sun –

drinks from the fridge

or just good people to hang out with!

And of course in the rarly mornings –

you must also have a deck

to see the sunrise from

and a cup of coffee to enjoy those first rays of light!

Papa’s World – growing up the grand daughters!

Sherry Ella Sarah

She had hoped they would choose to come with us!

The oldest – Maddy – decided to stay home and work.

She starts her second year of college

at the University of Lynchburg in August.

Sherry Ella Sarah

They have been a main part of our lives since they were born.

Maddy will soon turn twenty –

Ella just turned 17 and Sarah will be 14.

Ella Sarah Sherry

Sherry is tall at 5′ 9″ and Ella has nearly caught her!

Ella & Sherry

Ella now stands at 5′ 8 1/2 ”

and I do not know if she is done growing

it seems in the last year she has gained 4 inches!

Sarah

Now Sarah is growing fast – she already has reached her Mother’s height.

At 5′ 6 ” she I think will be as tall or taller than Ella!

Which means they both are almost Sherry’s Height!

Sherry Sarah Ella Papa

And then there is Taylor – one of the twin girls

for our other daughter Tammy.

Taylor looks to me that she will end up taller than all of them!

She loves horses and horse back riding and at 9 years old

Is already almost 5′ tall!

Sherry and Ella

But for now – it is Sherry and Ella.

Papa’s World – Friends at the beach – Sand Bridge!

My buddy Jim for 44 years!

In our early years – our families would vacation together

mostly at the Outer Banks.

Then – we all got busy – did not really go to the beach for a while

Families grew up and moved out – married –

But we still maintained that friendship

Doing the friends get togther every 4 to 6 months.

Sherry Sarah Ella and Papa

Now there are grand kids –

and it seems that it will start all over again

only we vacation with the grand kids!

Jimmy and two of his grand daughters

Life gets busy – for children – grand kids and grand parents.

We have found in the last 4 or 5 years

It is fun to take one at a time or maybe two.

You get more quality time.

Our oldest – Maddy – leaves Saturday for her second year of college!

WHERE DID THAT TIME GO!

Sarah – just drawing at random

We are staying back and forth between Tammy and Debby’s houses.

Soon – at the end of September – we will head South for the Winter.

We have rented a furnished condo – top floor –

Three bedroom – two bath rooms – room for vistors –

Friends and family –

In North Myrtle Beach – 2 or 3 blocks to the beach.

Jim – we played softball together in the late ’70’s

Today – we are enjoying our new life as free from owning a home.

We are making plans to visit friends –

We already went back home

and spent time with my sons and daughter in law.

We got the chance to spend time with Ella and Sarah

Yesterday we met up with Mike and Debby –

who had Ella and Maddy with them –

they had just finished a hike and we wanted to say goodbye to Maddy

before she left Saturday for University of Lynchburg Va.

To continue her college 3.85 GPA and her playing soccer!

Papa and Jim

The time has gone by all too quickly

From playing softball and volleyball together

to now hitting the golf links

Still friends – one retired the other close in a few years.

Toes in the sand – drink in the hand – oh but life is grand!

Papa’s World – continued Sand bridge – beach!

Each group was separated on the beach – our group is the middle one.

Sherry back at the beach house

Sherry is tall at 5′ 9″ –

But the first of the grand children to match her is Ella!

It seems in the last year she has grown 6 inches!

And at 13 Sarah is catching up at 5′ 6″!

And we have another one younger at 9 years old

is Taylor whom I think will be the tallest including Sherry!

Sarah at 13!

We have five grand daughters and one grand son from Debby and Tammy!

Ages 19 – 17 – 13 – 9 (twins) and the boy 5!

The little ones loved Sarah and Ella.

Our group space on the beach.

As you can see – we set up and no one came close to being beside us.

The beach here is very wide and we were just outside the local beach.

When I walked up the beach – they also were social distancing.

Nicky – Sherry & Nate.

Being three floors and a outside pool area – we were never crowded.

And we would tend to have part of the people head to the beach

others staying at the pool or going golfing – walking.

I never saw anyone not with a mask on by the shops or in them.

Grand mother and grand daughter

Papa’s World – beaching it homeless friends golf

When you wake up early – and you know it will be a good day

because you are going to golf with a friend of some 44 years!

GOOD MORNING WORLD!

It was overcast – a great day to golf and not take the heat from the sun!

You have arrived – still cloudy – a gentle breeze!

You park the cart and wait as a group is ahead of you!

It is going to be awesome!

Finally the group ahead has hit and you pull up to your TEE BOX!

Of course it is not the same TEE that they hit off!

But the “SENIOR” TEE BOX!

EXCITED TO GO!

Jim will hit first – but as you walk up –

Wait! “Jim – What is THAT”!

” Hello – can you say BLACK SNAKE” !

Some four feet long!

Crawling across the tee box behind Jim!

And he does not do well around snakes!

He says – “Where there is one – there is another following it”!

So – I reply – “Unless this one is the second one” ! LOL

And then – at the first green – he discovered he was so taken with the snake

He had lost or misplaced his wedge which he was practicing with!

Even though we turned around and went back –

we could not find it!

So – we turned it in when we were done –

He let me know that they contacted him

and they think the pro shop has it!

It turned out to be a awesome day – overcast – warm and good friend.

The beach awaited us on our return!

The snake continued on into the trees and needless to say

we did not look for golf balls!

Papa’s World – golfing – my buddy & wife – years!

I have known Jim & Dottie since before they were married.

We played softball together and grew up in the same town.

Although I am older – we got along – and now after all these years

when ever we get together – we like to play golf!

Sherry Dottie Jim

I guess this goes back some 40 plus years – maybe even 45 years!

We were young then – he came to work at the same place I worked.

We got to know one another when we ended up on the same softball team.

When Sherry and I were married – they were there –

that was 38 years ago!

So – through all those years – we vacationed together

watched as their children grew up –

married and moved on.

They in turn watched ours do the same.

Dottie decided a couple years ago to take up golf.

Sherry has been golfing with me for the last 30 years.

We played organized volleyball in a league for years

until our early forty’s

We decided before we hurt ourselves – to switch to golf.

She has the perfect posture and swing for golf.

She is tall and straight – right extension on her arms

and most of the time right down the middle.

Dottie has come a long ways in the last year!

Jim has encouraged her and helped her.

They now play in a couples league

but found out after they started

it was mostly men!

GOOD FOR DOTTIE!

After a fine day of golf – the first time this year for us –

It was back to the beach house and relax by the pool!

Sherry did well for her first time this year – a 52!

My first time this year was a 49!

But – I must tell you – she can and does beat me!

Wouldn’t have it any other way after over 39 years together!

Papa’s World – the beauty of the Sunrise – cloudy day!

I have always like the mornings – the dark becoming light!

Sipping my coffee – usually after I have checked emails

written my blog –

I watch for the breaking of dawn –

The birds chirping

Sunrise – the beginning of a new day!

On cloudy days such as this one – it still is warm –

and ahead for us that day – was a day of golf!

Perfect in that the sun is not beating down on you!

On the beach – the sky is turning a light blue!

It was going to be a grand day!

As we departed a hour or so after the sunrise

All I could think of was just how much I enjoy life!

I guess I am a little bit sentimental

A little bit on the warm and fuzzy side.

But every time I see the breaking of a new day

I know in my heart that this is me –

always looking forward

always with a idea and plan in my mind.

Seeing the day – living the life – doing it my way.

For that is the only way I know how to live.

Papa’s World – The house and quiet solitude!

The first sun rise of a new day!
Our room King bed
Ella and Sarah’s room
Our bathroom we shared with the grand kids!

We were on the bottom floor – no climbing stairs with bags!

A small kitchen and game room on this floor and one other master bedroom
This floor went right out to the pool and bar!
The pool was large with the deep part right in the middle!

Our floor was so that we could walk right out to the pool or beach.

We also were a five minute slow walk to the stores

and places to eat!

The beach looking North toward Va. Beach
The beach looking South toward N.C.

There were hardly any people at where we were at.

The local beach was sevral blocks North of us-

And even there – people set up 15 to 20 feet from each other.

I saw a few masks but the breeze and open air

we were and felt safe.

The nearest people set up to us!

This for the time being – will be our vacation life

as we continue into the pandemic.

Selecting spots that are quiet – social distance

and friends and family who also took safe measures before coming.

Storm brewing!

Papa’s World – homeless – beach vacation – part two.

Sherry Sarah Ella Tom

Our first full beach day was on a Monday!

The whole week would end up warm – hot – a few showers

and fantastic lightening and thunder shows over the ocean

and behind the house!

From the beach a view of our house in the middle

We were just South of the public beach access –

and when I walked up there – groups and families were spread out.

As it was where we set up – everyone seemed to have marked

off their own space 15 to 25 feet from anyone else.

Our little space on this expanded beach

We walked both ways – and people respected your space.

No need as far as we were concerned to wear masks on the beach.

It was wide open – we were not near anyone

and the wind was always blowing.

Besides – everyone in our house had quarantined before coming.

Everyone worked from home or had tests.

As you can see – not that many people around.

Unless you were by the water – you needed foot wear for the sand

which was very hot!

Sarah looking for shells

It was in the low to high 90’s all week.

With one day over 100 and heat index of 104!

It would sprinkle a little then go away

at night we would have lightening shows out over the ocean!

Ella going in the ocean

There was a problem of Jelly Fish

but from what I have read

it is all the way up and down the Carolina’s and Va. coasts

Ella did get stung twice as did Sarah.

I went to the lifeguard and they sent a EMT over.

He applied a heat pack and told us to get her to a hot shower

or a hot tub which we did.

That seemed to cure it.

Several other people also got stung!

Ella 17 Sarah almost 14 Sherry

Sherry is 5′ 9″ and the girls have or are catching up!

This Navy ship was there for several days
Sarah Ella Papa

All in all – the beginning of the vacation week –

was more or less worry free.

We had met those we did not know

All had social distanced

and we were confident going forward we had made the right choice.

Papa’s World – spending a few days with our daughter!

The last couple days we traveled to the home

of Mike & Debby and the three grand daughters.

We are leaving and taking Sarah and Ella with us

to the beach in Sand bridge – near Va. Beach.

We walked our three miles up what they call THE DAMM HILL!

And it was hot and humid – but we also walked across the dam

at Lake Holiday in Cross Junction Va.

The walk is full of up and down hills

but all on the road surface!

a view of the 240 acre lake from the dam.

This is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Va.

West of Winchester.

Behind us in this picture is the last big hill –

the one they call THE DAMM HILL and it is steep.

The family practices health and nutrition

Debby is a Qualified National Marketing Director

for The Juice Plus Company.

Mike is a Phys Ed teacher

Sarah Maddy Ella

We are taking the two youngest – Maddy has to work

and in two weeks will be moving into her new dorm room

She achieved a 3.85 GPA in her first year as a Freshman

She was named to the conference ALL AMERICAN ACADEMIC

while playing soccer –

and as part of that – will move into the brand new suite dorms for atheletes

at University Of Lynchburg – in Va.

Sarah and her love bird FENNY – who likes to bite me!

But she carries him-her around like this all the time.

He will even sleep like that as she holds him-her.

We bird sat – while they went away for a week –

and he will say PRETTY BIRD

after you uncover his cage in the mornings!

Where Ella does.

All three have been on Juice Plus for almost 14 years

and Sarah is a Juice Plus baby!

Sarah with I think Maddy

Their parents Mike and Debby –

practice whole food eating – no dairy or gluten

and always reading labels –

all must be organic and no harmful additives.

Every year for the past 18 to 20 years

they have taken a vacation to Raquet Lake in upstate New York!

Where there is no wify or internet

unless you can search and find it!

Being unconnected as they call it.

Back to nature – canoeing – hiking the mountains.

And the girls love it!

We have been spending time with them since we sold our house.

Here in the Blue Ridge mountains of NVA

outside of Winchester Va.

At Lake Holiday.

Papa’s World – homeless and when friends meet!

Dottie Sherry Cindy Buck Jim

Dottie & Jim and I go way back – I was there when they got married.

Jim & I worked together and played softball together in the mid 70’s.

We met Buck and Cindy through them and ended up moving

into their neighborhood next to them and Mike & Carol.

Everyone smile – Cindy – down – smile – Cindy down – look this way!

Believe it or not – this picture was not easy to get –

They all were doing something other than looking! Lol

Now tradition demands a little Fireball –

And Cindy and Sherry are in charge of that –

Calling the “SHOTS” so to speak!

Jimmy is the organizer –

placing them the perfect way! Lol

Now – a couple of us – Cindy – Mike and I –

like to cut it with Rum Chata !

I am not much for wine or the hard stuff

but I can do the shots this way!

Now Captain Mike told his son –

“THESE GUYS CAN DRINK” !

BUT – we were on the boat for a total of 8 hours –

and I could not even sip my beer –

The boat would make you chip your tooth!

Cindy Sherry Me Carol

We really did not have that much!

A lot of water –

some beer

and everyone laughing!

Sherry & Cindy

The boat was beautiful – powerful and lots of room.

A 300 HP. V8!

You would have to get it up to 15 MPH just to have it plane out!

Mike said the fastest he had ever gone

was somewhere South of 50!

I think at one time Jimmy got it up to 35 MPH!

And that my friends was as fast as I wanted to go!

Thank you Carol and Mike for the weekend

“GET OUT OF MY YARD” he shouts!

And out the door he runs!

They can wreck havoc on your yard! Leave nasty deposits –

so when walking in shoes or bare feet

you can feel it as you step on it!

Carol and Mike

We moved in almost 34 or 35 years ago –

right behind them at our old home in WNY!

We were neighbors for 12 or 13 years!

Sherry and Mike

We shared many moments of laughter –

racing riding lawn mowers –

playing friendly jokes on each other –

and me trying to compete with his beautiful lawn!

Sherry driving Mike’s boat

He has his own business – starting by himself

and today his crews go nationwide!

Carol now works with him after retiring from the college scene!

Together with their son – they have built this business

into a first class operation.

They purchased this home a year ago and then the boat.

We have all gotten together at various times –

but this is the first time in WNY at the lake house.

And it is beautiful!

Long dock leads to the flags and then the house.

Friends all these years – jokes – laughing –

he will never retire –

he loves what he has started and adding to all the time.

Just like his lawn all those years ago –

not one blade of grass – out of place – no weeds –

green – manicured to perfection.

have provided all of us first class digs – eats and fun for a long weekend

at Lake Chautauqua in North Western N.Y.

A Native American name meaning “Bag Tied In Middle”

or “Where the fish are caught”!

It is a natural lake some 27 miles long!

We all grew up in NWNY & NWPA and were friends and neighbors

before we moved away – but Mike & Carol still live here.

We get together every so often – that’s what friends do.

We have fun – laugh – some beer – wine and a few shots –

good eats and now – as guests at their lake house

they purchased a year ago!

Carol & Mike

We had planned this trip months ago – long before the pandemic.

We made sure everyone was healthy – having all practiced social distancing

and self isolation looking ahead to our long weekend together.

Sherry – Buck & I are retired – Carol has retired but chooses to help Mike

in his owned business which is country wide.

Cindy and Jim will be next to retire and then Dottie!

Mike – well he could right now –

but as he says “WHAT WOULD I DO” ?

He said he will never retire – why should he?

He comes and goes and now every weekend is at the lake.

Here I am in the latter stages of life –

doing what I love to do – “WRITE”!

Now – I share with you – family and friends –

A daily computation of events – actions –

life in general –

to serve as a diary of sorts for those in the years to come

to know what it was like in my lifetime.

I did publish one book of memories from face book

and have it so the kids can read and look at the pictures.

Pictures are very important in my writings

as they also serve as words and memories.

Our lives are all reflected in my writings –

friends – family – special occasions

and as the years go by

a time to look and reflect back

on the lives of those I love.

That is the why in why I write daily.

I hope you like my blog –

So glad we did this

as it is the best I have ever had !

Sherry Cindy and Buck

The easy part was eating –

the hard part was what were we going to order

and our waiter helped us immensely !

The Sushi Bar

I am not one much for raw fish

so we ordered off the cooked menu

and mine was Lobster – crab and shrimp rolls !

Sherry’s top
mine bottom

All I can say is that there was nothing left !

It was that good –

It was a dining experience that night

and I am thankful we made it the highlight

of our dining for the ten days!

Cindy and Sherry

And we had a waiter that made it possible !

And yes – I used the chop sticks !!!!!!!

Papa’s World – Last full day – SAC TOWN – RIVERBOAT !

GOOD MORNING

Friday morning – last full day in Northern California –

After nine days – seeing almost everything we wanted to see-

and all the extra unexpected things we never imagined we would see-

We went back to where this trip started –

” SAC TOWN ” as it is called –

Historical Sacramento !

Sports bar

And of course we made a stop for a brew

In the Sports bar called “SACTOWN ” !

Sherry and Buck

This place is a true SPORTS BAR –

with authentic autographs every where !

Every wall in the building

Kenny ( the snake ) Stabler Raiders Vs. Joe Montana – the ’49’s !

I just walked around and took it all in –

I can not imagine how they accumulated all of this !

Men’s room
NOTICE DRAIN ON FLOOR !
LOL

And then the KEGS in the men’s room

THAT WAS A FIRST FOR ME !

Moving on – it was time to eat a late lunch

before we boarded the boat for a riverboat ride!

Next door to the riverboat
View from lunch
Getting excited for the ride on the river
The river boat
Buck and Cindy

We made it – 3:00 PM. cruise –

Time for a brew !

Sherry and Tom

At last – in the heat – some shade – and a couple of cold drinks!

Buck and Cindy

We were on the top covered deck

and we would go I think up river

about one hour

and then turn around

and come back!

The bar on the top deck

It still was warm even up there

they had fans

but you could stand on the bow

but it was in the Sun.

Other boaters
Sherry

The cruise was informative

Sherry had been here last April

and had said the river was much higher

from all the snow melt in the mountains

Floating docks

These docks are made to rise and fall with the river

What Sherry had seen in April is marked in GREEN on the gauge pole !

Showing how much the river had come up !

To me -that is quite scary !

After our boat ride –

it was time to take in the last sights of SAC TOWN !

Papa’s World – second stop STERLING – NAPA VALLEY and then ” GOTTS ” !

GOOD MORNING

Our second and last wine tasting was at STERLING –

across the road and on top of a hill facing the castle !

Now – it was hard trying to select just where to go

after a 2 1/2 hour drive.

THERE ARE OVER 400 WINERIES IN NAPA VALLEY !

YES – a tram ride to the top and I do not like heights !

But I prevailed – fortified with Italian wine from the other winery !

OBOY !!!!!
Starting up !
Not too sure about this !

You will be just fine

do not look down

keep your eyes straight ahead !

Almost there

Then we arrived – some 3 to 5 hundred feet up !

The view of the castle

Once there – I was okay

And time to walk the halls

But I will be real –

I did not care for this wine

In fact after the second tasting

I just quit !

Second station

You had to walk a long ways between tastings !

Not quite sure what that was all about

BUCK

But this was the jewel of the trip

as far as I was concerned

a open covered patio

with 360 degrees views !!!!

On the patio

I was happy again

my two glasses

I saved them as I went

The last one was okay !

But – not something I would order

that is just me not being a wine drinker !

Time to go BACK DOWN !!!!!

Cindy & Buck

Headed back to the bottom

and then we would start the return back to our base !

But we were told –

before we go back

you have to go to St. Helena’s

and experience

GOTTS !!!!!

GOTTS

Now -just think – 50 and 60’s

open air root beer stands

music – girls on roller skates

burgers and fries and hot dogs

This is that with out the girls on roller skates

but the burgers and fries are on steroids! ( really good )

Mouth watering

This is a must if you are in Napa Valley !

Sherry and Buck

The place was spotlessly clean !

And the back was full mowed grass – putting green style

With picnic tables ( lots )

and trees for shade !

and the burgers were right on – not greasy !

PAPA’S WORLD

WHERE FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEET !

Papas World – bringing a smile and good thought every day – Papas World.

A long time ago – when my wife first asked me to join social media

because all my friends would ask her about me

on her posts and her face book home page

“How is Tom” or “What is Tom doing” ?

She told me there were so many that I should be the one answering!

And it went back to my childhood friends –

so she hooked me up with my own home page

and I started accumulating friends – 609 today!

I decided a long time ago – I would follow three rules

as much as I could!

One – post something to make you smile!

Everyday I post ” My BIG smile for the day”

And ” Laughter is the best medicine”!

Two – “My GOOD thought for the day”

Three – “My smile and Good thought for the day”!

And my last one –

Fourth – “No Politics” which is the hardest to do as I grit my teeth!

So – today – I have 609 face book friends

and 249 subscribers on my blog site

of which only THREE I know!

And both my friends and subscribers are world wide.

When I started in 2012 I had no idea –

and a little over a year ago I started my blog site

livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

on advice from my wife and her friend.

“Tom – you write your memories – and we can not find them”!

” You need to store them for the kids to read”!!

So – here I am today – writing each day – over 300 blogs stored –

pictures – places and events – 246 subscribers whom I do not know-

following me – face book friends commenting every day.

From all over the World –

Thank you to my wife and her friend

I always wanted to write a book

Now I have and it is stored away.

For the next generation to read

Papa’s World -wine tasting – NAPA VALLEY – 400 to choose

GOOD MORNING

And so it began – two hours – trying to pick out the stops –

We were going to NAPA VALLEY

a good two hour drive ( ended up closer to 2 1/2 hours )

Our first choice

CASTELLO di AMOROSA – fine ITALIAN WINE !

And – I LIKED IT !!!!

The first wine I have actually liked in a tasting ! ( all of them)

And a real castle – took 30 years in planning – 15 years to construct

and at 121,000 square feet – HUGE !

Sherry
Buck and Cindy

This is a replicate of a 1300 Moorish castle

The way in !

I do not know the exact reason – other than it was a dream of the owner

But – you have to know – this is not a commercial wine

you can ONLY BUY IT HERE !

And it is all ITALIAN !!!!!

Inside the court yard
Full of spaces such as this !
More courtyards
Two story court yard
Cindy and Sherry

We choose the self guided tour !

Just the outside was worth the cost !

LUCY & ETHEL

But it was time to do inside !

We could of chosen the wine tasting
in the Banquet Hall

But instead we went to the under ground tasting room !

Heading to the bowels of the castle
Storage
Getting closer
Finally we are in the tasting room
Making out our wine tasting selections
DONE !!!!

We had a really good person who poured

in fact we paid for five

he gave us at least seven

and one was from a $300.00 bottle !!!!

The kind that he had to break the wax seal !

Cindy was ecstatic over that one !!!!!
And so was Sherry and I !!!!!!
NOTE – I DRANK ALL OF MINE !

Now – normally I do not like wine

but – there was something about this ITALIAN WINE I LIKED !

The decor of the tasting room
The selections

Now -the only way to get them home

was to ship them

And they had hundreds of bottles
BUT WE COULDN’T SELECT

The bummer was that you had to select at least SIX bottles

before they would ship!

I did not like it that much ( $300.00 )

So – we toasted – marked it up to very enjoyable –

And made our way back out side

exploring as we went!

Walking San Francisco

After getting off the BIG BUS – we decided to start walking !

Walking Pier 39
Pier 39
Pier 39

This whole area had a carnival feel to it –

crowds of people –

shops – fun things to do and see

FOOD

By this time we were hungry and looking for a place to sit down and eat !

Signs Signs – everywhere signs

Finally – we found a place with a view of the marina

Marina
Pier Market
Water front

Now – we could eat and plan what to do next.

This was the second time in San Francisco for Buck and Cindy

but the first time for us

So – there were places they knew

and we decided to try and find them !

Our view
Good company

After eating – we noticed large seals swimming in the harbor from our table

Pier 39 Harbor Seals

When we went outside – we could hear the seals

so we walked down the pier

and came to floating docks

Harbor seals
Floating docks
Harbor seals Pier 39

Quite a crowd attraction and there were more in the water swimming

and playing –

watching the seals

Time to venture forth

When they were here before

they found a place called Buena Vista

Buena Vista Irish Coffee

And of course being the Irishmen we are –

time to stop and taste it where it was invented all those years ago!

IRISH COFFEE

Let me tell you – it was strong and tasty !

GHIRARDELLI

And then CHOCOLATE –

GHIRARDELLI

You know those little squares of mouth watering chocolates !

THE STORE

Well – this place was chocolate heaven

and had FIVE ICE CREAM SUNDAE STORES !!!!!

Now – Sherry will tell you she wanted a Sundae

but the rest of us did not !

That is true – only because we had just eaten lunch

and had IRISH COFFEE

I really wanted one

but I did not think it would settle quite right with me !

Harbor view from Ghirardelli
Ghirardelli

This whole plaza seemed to belong to the candy company.

And it was really nice with live music vendors playing

A lot of candy and some of it was free !

Sherry GHIRARDELLI

But on to the next stop ( we did bring some home)

Walking back toward the harbor

And once again -unplanned – another iconic discovery on our way back !

THE ORIGINAL
KRISPY KREME
San Francisco
1937

Believe you me -before my heart attack in 2013

this just may of been the reason I had that heart attack !

BOY OH BOY !!!!!!!

I was so tempted

they looked and smelled good

but not one of us

had one !!!!!

Now I can say I have been where it all started

both GHIRARDELLI CHOCOLATES

and KRISPY KREME’S

Unexpected but this whole trip has been that way !

Papa’s World – MUIR’S FOREST – Part two

GOOD MORNING

As we walked among the giants – the peace and quiet became evident –

from watching the man push his wife up the path in a wheel chair

to the lady who quietly said ” Would you like for me to take your picture ” ?

Buck – Cindy – Sherry and me

And that is how we managed to have a picture

with all of us standing inside this huge Redwood tree !

Tom

And then the tree that I hid inside and peaked out –

I am told that the really big Redwoods are further North

Where you can drive a car through –

To think this tree is between 600 and 1600 years old !

And then we entered Cathedral Grove –

Instantly all was quiet

Sherry – Buck – Cindy

A church like atmosphere –

everyone was hushed at the grand gathering of trees !

Walking among them – looking up and then ahead –

taking in the beauty of these giants !

Sherry

Solitude – walking – looking – admiring – in awe !

Papas World – Wife – Mother – Inspiration – Sherry!

I knew from the first moment she was the one –

We dated a year and one half and then were married.

I have never looked back – and we raised two sets of kids.

Lol – this is funny and so true!

We have bought and sold FIVE houses together in 38 years!

That is averaged to about every 7 1/2 years!

Now – we are staying with both daughters!

Oldest grand daughter – Maddy and oldest daughter Debby with Sherry.

We have plans – not to buy right away – to search – different areas.

To explore South to warmer winters.

But – to also stay with the kids.

We have set up a base camp at Tammy and Marcus house

with the three littlest grand kids.

We help out with the kids – when we are not traveling.

But – the inspiration for all of this is Sherry.

Once she makes up her mind – it is full sailing ahead.

We just celebrated her birthday – 71 years young!

A certified health coach from Dr. Sears!

A Senior Sales Coordinator in The Juice Plus Company!

A leader of her team from across the U.S.A.

“TEAM GENERATIONS”

Made up of Grandparents – children and grand children.

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com

At 71 years old – Sherry has become the inspiration to hundreds of people.

From Tumeric shots to growing plants and veggies for the Tower Garden

to teaching and talking health and nutrition

to walking and running –

to taking calls – emails and texts and zoom and voxer

She is always helping others!

Sherry – for the 38 years we have been married

inspiration – mother – teacher – corp manager – logistics- supervisor

team leader – and family idol –

She has motivated me to be the best I can be.

Papas World – “AS EASY AS 1-2-3-!” The little ones!

We are now living in the basement of our daughters house!

But basement doe not quite describe it!

We have a bedroom – a full bathroom – two living rooms with chairs and sectionals!

And a storage room where we have put excess items!

We are very comfortable and even another entrance if we choose.

But the one thing I have noticed is how close these three are.

Yes – tyey argue and Bode seems to be the agitator to his sisters.

Yet – they protect him as well!

He will snuggle up with either one and they also will do the same with him.

It all depends on who is watching what on the IPADS!

And they are allowed select time on them –

the rest is play time outside – riding their bikes to neighbors house

or playing in the back yard.

Each girl will retreat to their own rooms –

while Bode tends to play with his toys by himself.

Yesterday – the two girls got up and went outside

here laid Bode – on the back of the couch

he had fallen asleep!

Bode fell asleep on the back of the couch

I tried to get a picture of him – but Taylor going out the door woke him up!

Bode age 5 The twins – Taylor & Cassidy age 9

Our time here for me will be remembered as the song goes

“1 – 2 – 3 ” !

AS EASY AS!!!!!

Cassidy and Bode are much more alike –

yet each one has the traits of the others.

Papas World – staying with our daughter – 4th of July

I am glad I had my HIPPIE YEARS all those years ago! YIKES!

All those years later – we have sold our home

and are spending time back and forth between our daughters homes.

Here – we are at Debby and Mikes at Lake Holiday – Cross Junction.

We have come for the 4th. of July – and the fireworks on the lake

at a friends of theirs dock!

Sarah

We have been coming here for the past 14 years to be with them

The three oldest grand daughters!

The friends boat and dock
Debby with the girls out in the water
Debby and Sherry
We all are a family of healthy eating

Sherry is a senior sales cordinator

and Debby a Qualified National Marking Director.

Both for the same company –

The Juice Plus Company

and both certified health coaches.

The peaceful setting – ducks on the water – speed boats –

and pontoon boats pulling tubes and skiers.

fire works at dusk
all the boaters gathered at the marina

We had a excellent view – and had watched the boats headed to the marina.

Observing is my nature – I like to watch – listen –

and I as I get older – I am learning –

looking and feeling the vibes of others.

the moon casting light for the boats to navigate

Papa’s World – MUIR’S FOREST – REDWOODS

Finally – after visiting Muir’s Beach – it was time to retrace our route

and back to the reserved parking lot – to visit THE REDWOODS !

MUIR’S FOREST IN THE DISTANCE

So many pictures – so much awesome forest and trees –

that I have decided to break this down into a series.

MUIR WOODS

I have never seen a forest such as this –

so pristine – so awesome –

But – in the middle of all this –

a flash from the past –

A PAY PHONE !

Buck and Tom

You look up and up and still up !

Upon entering – a telling of Muir Forest
The history

This forest has been here for

some say 1600 years at least !

The roots are shallow

It was explained to me – that this is the perfect storm so to speak.

One – between 42 and 68 degrees –

FOG – these are the only trees to absorb moisture through their leaves !

The protection from the winds in their valleys.

And – their root systems being shallow –

they intertwine with one another !

Sherry and Cindy

The Sun is hot -the shade is cool !

Buck
Cindy

I wonder why all the older trees hollow out on the bottom ?

INTERESTING

Thank you for reading Papa’s World –

the Muir Forest Redwoods will continue.

Papas World – Happy Birthday – Sherry!

A Certified Health Coach – A Lab Tech – Payroll – Traffic –

Logistics – Supervisor – Manager – and now a Senior Sales Crodinator

for the Juice Plus Company – HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERRY!

The many professions she has held in all these years.

The respect of her peers – the leadership – she is the one

they all came to for advice – skill and being capable

to accomplish whatever she set out to do.

Mother – grandmother and MORMOR

Swedish for MOTHERSMOTHER!

Daughters Debby & Tammy

The grand children adore her

The daughters respect and follow her.

To these three – the youngest – it is MORMOR!

Bode – Taylor ( who I think will be taller than her) & Cassidy

Her grandmother immigrated from Sweden –

The proud heritage passed down through her mother

herself and her daughters to the grand kids.

They all seem to have inherited being tall like her

5′ 9″ to be exact.

Sarah – Debby – Sherry – Maddy & Ella

So far Ella has come the closest at 5′ 8 1/2 “

But I see Sarah and Taylor catching her and beyond.

She is my soulmate – my mentor and the reason I live today.

We have been married 38 years.

Today is her birthday –

and we have started a brand new adventure together

We have bought and sold FIVE homes together

And now we are free of ownership

Free to travel where we want

and no worries of a house – taxes or HOA!

So – today – to you my love – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

The road awaits us – another dream begins –

and one more birthday is here

but you continue to amaze me – you are just as beautiful

as the day we were married.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERRY!

LOVE PAPA!

Papas World – near the finish line – a whole new World awaits – looking into the future.

As I write this – we have THREE MORE SLEEPS HERE!

Then we will finish moving & clean the house –

And go to our daughters house at Lake Holiday

and spend the night or two.

With the tree oldest grand kids.

Sarah 13 Debby mother – Sherry – Maddy 19 & Ella 16

All are about to have birthdays this Summer and Fall

Hard to believe they are that old!

Then it will be onto our other daughters house

were we have sort of set up base camp!

Cassidy – 9 Tammy mother – Taylor 9 the twins
Bode age 5 & Papa

They also will have birthdays soon.

Our plan is to go back and forth –

For a while – also to travel and see friends and family.

There is a lot of truth in this – we are changing – evolving –

and going to enjoy life without debt – taxes and HOA’s.

For at least a while!

We have been careful – we wear our masks when in close company.

But – life goes on – we are healthy –

I was asked WHY I take Juice Plus & Omega’s

My reply is I know the research – I know how I feel –

and I trust good nutrition over a pill.

And I have been doing it for 15 years.

Our faith – our sound judgement & our convictions

lead us to living life to the plus

one day at a time!

Papa’s World – DAY # 100 with friends – RESTON VA.

We have been on the move – packing –

going back and forth to the storage unit.

So we were invited by friends to meet up at the Reston Town Center.

Where we found four chairs – placed them at least six feet apart

and sat down and ate our curbside pickup!

We met up with Jason & Ginger Child –

and while it was raining – sometimes a cloud burst

we found shelter under the covered ICE SKATE RINK

Now covered in artificial grass –

with all these colorful chairs and decorations!

Our peaceful little space – under the clear roof – with a slight rain!

It was so nice to just sit and talk – eat – and watch people –

all respecting distance – and being outside – we took our masks off

to of course eat and sip our ice teas!

The topics were one and many – the laughs – well – a way to relax.

We have a lot to be thankful for – sitting with friends outside

in the fresh air – listening to the rain –

eating lunch –

it is the little things in life that are full of surprises

Thank you Ginger for the invite!

And Jason – who works from home 7 days a week –

A chance to take a break –

Someday my friend – we shall play a round of golf!

Papas World – looking around – almost done!

I am looking around the house – we have the car loaded up for one more run

to the storage unit and then to our daughters house.

We stopped at Home Depot and bought two more small boxes –

A medium size one another wardrobe one.

This chair will stay here – it matches the bedroom set

which they purchased.

My clothes are in a suitcase –

A carry bag and some piled on the floor.

The utilities have been called – shut off date – the paper will be canceled.

As I look around – almost all that is still here will remain.

The final finish line is in sight – all the keys collected –

put into plastic bags and marked.

I am writing down things I think they should know.

We will be staying with our daughters until we decide when to leave

for the winter.

We will visit friends and family as we have been invited.

I look around – it has been a good run – our home – our base – our dream.

We are in this together – and we shall go on – new adventures await.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papas World – down to the last – finally I sleep.

I guess it is in my DNA – whenever I have a task before me –

I push ahead until I finish it!

I think it also is in the Tarot Cards of life –

Me being born a Taurus

strong willed – plows ahead – like a Bull!

And it has a effect on those around me.

That is why I am much better off working alone –

Plodding ahead one step at a time.

For that – I am deeply sorry –

It is a inborn trait –

And drives my wife crazy!

Now – as I sit here – we have accomplished in one week

what normally would take most people weeks to do!

We are 98 % packed up – moved to storage –

all that is left is the pantry – some bathroom items –

and our clothes which we already have moved 60%!

She is a saint for putting up with me!

She has cleaned out and packed up 99 % of everything!

She insists on wrapping it all and putting into boxes

crates – I seal them up – pick them up ( heavy)

Move to garage to stage –

and then into the car –

either to the storage unit or Salvation Army –

Project Hope – or our daughters house!

Our daughter Tammy

We are using Tammy & Marcus house as sort of a home base

We also will take turns staying with Our other daughter Debby!

Debby – our daughter

Debby and Mike have helped us whenever we asked

moving the heavy stuff to providing another van to pack in!

At Debby’s house with grand daughters
At Tammy’s house with grand daughters
With my little bud – Bode

I look around – the buyers actually purchased 95 % of our furniture

as they had none transferring back to the states from abroad.

So – we did not have to move the heavy items

but in the kitchen alone – there are 22 cupboards & 22 drawers!

As Sherry said – packed full and she is going to not buy

ANYMORE STUFF! LOL

Debby – Sherry – Tammy

At last I have been able to sleep more than a hour.

And I owe it all to these three –

It is not easy being with me when I am focused

But she has calmed me down and led me through all of this.

Thank you Debby and Tammy for being there for me
And thank you to my wife

for working through all of this with me – you are a angel.

I am relaxed now – sleeping – laughing – and we are once again walking –

We have time now –

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

We will be traveling – not buying for a while

And I promise to calm my TAURUS SOUL!

Papas World – children – now grown up – memories

In 1982 – June 25th. we were married – each for the second time.

Papas World – do we or don’t we – 21 years here – blessed

Well – we shall see how this all works out –

WE ARE LISTING OUR HOME – another BIG event in our life!

And yes – at least once a day – ” Please call my phone” ! LOL

It always gets laid down somewhere only not to be found!

Going to miss this – a view out the back door – to the East sunrise.

We decided that maybe it was time – we have gone through one down turn

and after almost 13 years – our market here has recovered

to the point we just may break even on the sale of the house!

Being 71 years old – we just do not have the time left to rebound

if the market once again turns down.

With the pandemic – and our area is still strong in sales

we decided to cut our ties here – and wait and rent –

We love it here – will we be sorry and regret it?

NOTE: Hair is much longer now – going back to my HIPPIE DAYS!

Or will we treat it as a new adventure – a new start –

where ever we want to go!

This could become our new norm!

For the time being – we will stay with the kids –

either in Leesburg or Winchester

and after Christmas – head South for the winter.

Storage will contain whatever we do not sell

and we have sold a lot already!

We have made five trips to Salvation Army –

We have given the kids different items

What they can use or want – we have gone through STUFF

and donated it or thrown away!

Being retired has made it all the easier to do this.

Once you make up your mind –

throwing things away becomes less stressful

and looking ahead to a new beginning

a new start somewhere – we have ideas

but for the time being – we will just relax

( I do not how we had time to work – before retirement)

I will miss my yard – my flowers – everything I created

but I have done this before – leaving my mark on the land

Someday we will return and ride around

just to see the changes and how it looks.

My neighbors have said they will miss us –

They wonder if the next ones will keep it as nice as we have.

Only time will tell –

I told the lady selling our house –

everything you see – comes back each Spring

There are four trees I did not plant – every other tree and bush

I planted – most times on my knees by hand

for you see Northern Va. is full of rocks! LOL

Blooming in the Spring
Growing our own produce
The Tower Garden
Everything is for sale
We will take at least one with us
http://www.sfjuiceplus.com
Its a big house
almost 3100 sf.
a 500 sf patio
strawberry patch
I am going to miss this the most
mowing – trimming
green grass – shade trees
flowers – Gods beauty
Sitting on our front porch
I like this better than the patio
I get to see people walking
saying hello
waving from across the street
Saying good bye to the path we walked
the sidewalks – the lakes
the forests
The playgrounds and the buildings to come
Sheltering has been good for us
as we have places to walk
going to miss this after 14 years

By the time you have read this – we will have listed the house

We will have had a storage unit

and cleaned out the house and stored what we can

made it presentable to those who are interested

downsizing – clearing out –

And maybe even sold it!

Who knows where our next adventure will be

I will keep blogging where ever we are

LIFE BEGINS AT 71 FOR US!

Together through thick and thin

living life one day at a time

More to come !

Papas World – A World of trying times – keep smiling!

The end before the beginning – a upside – inside out World!

When one little thing goes wrong –

it cascades – only in my case – it was with the KEURIG

And I forgot to put the CUP in! LOL!

Now imagine – if the top disappeared from your life

and the bottom took it’s place!

In my case – exactly what happened!

I was a fast food junkie –

and then thanks to my wife – we changed

for 14 years now – no fast food –

and I take my WHOLE FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

Of Juice plus – ORCHARD – GARDEN – VINEYARD and OMEGAS

made not from fish oil –

but where the fish get the OMEGAS – JP own ALGAE FARMS!

So my World turned upside down and right side up!

Our World which was normal is now abnormal

and we may not live long enough to see it go back

if it ever does!

So – we evolve – we change and we go on.

That has been the Human evolution since human kind began.

Laugh – think and do new things.

Times have changed – say GOOD MORNING –

Drink you coffee or tea or hot chocolate

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I hope I brought to you words to think about

and I hope you come back

for this is PAPA’S WORLD

Papas World – now – the helmet hides the hair!

Life is so different now in Sheltering – we still walk –

ride our bikes – deliver groceries

collect food for the food pantry

and now are on a schedule to bring meals

to a vet and his wife who are home bound.

Resting on the trail – I can walk – but biking is a whole new ball game!

You use different muscles –

plus my bike is acting weird

when I am coasting – it constantly is changing gears

so I never know how it will be when I start peddling again!

Plus it does it when I apply the hand brakes!

The whole World has changed – life is not like we lived it!

We must adapt – and we are.

But – we are ready to explore once again.

I miss being able to drive and stop to eat.

Or pull over and see the beauty of the country.

I wonder what those who have passed away would think of today?

One thing that I have not been able to do –

IS GET A HAIR CUT!

It now has been 75 days!

And it is getting long and curly – which is natural for me!

Back in the ’70’s – I had long hair – although it was tight curls.

And for almost ten years – I rode a motorcycle.

Those days are long gone!

Now days I keep it cut and trimmed – usually every four weeks!

Since I started Juice Plus – it seems to grow faster!

So today – I am going to show you what it looks like now.

The question is ” DO I LET SHERRY CUT IT” ?

Or do I just bite the bullet so to speak and keep going!

All I do now is shower – wash it – towel dry it –

and run my fingers through it!

No comb or brush –

and I put nothing in or on it!

My wife wants me to buy some “STUFF” for it.

She says it will hold the curls more!

So Here It Is!

I will let you be the judge – and comment if you like!

It has been 45 plus years since it has been this long

and it was way longer back then!

Now the abnormal has become the normal

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

Will wait for feed back!

Papas World – things I had to do – risky – so far – good.

During this time of not knowing how this all will turn out

I had to do a couple things that were risky

and I thought long and hard about.

The first was when my front tooth felt different

and it was actually loose!

OBOY – I was in Florida and I thought just get through this

get home and take care of it there.

Then we got home- I made the appointment

and COVID 19 happened!

So I canceled and waited it out!

Then it happened – it broke off – it was a crown –

but I had a gap right in the front!

Now – I had no choice – before it got infected –

I had to go to the dentist – so I made my appointment on line.

They would only do emergency’s.

I was worried – but I went in – they were the only people there

the husband and wife dental team.

He drilled it out – the post – and put in the temp.

No shots – there was no root.

But I would have to be careful and go back

when the crown came in!

That took place over several weeks and it all came out good.

I have my new crown – they were very professional

and there were no other patients there

and they wore gowns – masks – shields – gloves

and stayed away from me when not working on my mouth!

The next thing was the car – I have maintained it right on schedule

for seven years – and it now has 122,000 miles.

I needed a oil change

the last time was back in January just before we left for Florida.

I already was over the mileage and we had driven

a lot of miles while we were in Florida.

So – I made the appointment

and in I went – hardly anyone there!

I waited all by myself

They had put distance between all the seats

and no one was in there.

I got the oil change – replaced a bulb and was on my way!

Yesterday I saw my doctor – by phone!

I now have this app where you go into her office portal

and you can see and talk to her!

Since my heart attack almost seven years ago

I see my two doctors every six months and the one every twelve months.

That part was easy – but they have to draw blood every six months.

So – today I go to the office – where they have one person at a time.

They check your temp. plus she could see me yesterday.

I am feeling good , no head ache – cough – pink eye –

Then – I must wear a mask –

they take me right in – draw the blood and I leave

as quick as possible.

God bless these front line people!

So – during all these I had to make choices

I am healthy – have not taken the FLU shot in 15 years!

I take my Juice Plus and Omegas

I drink water all day – no dairy – very little sugars –

my one vice is coffee with almond cream.

However I am doing a 16 hour shred – fast

I do not eat for 16 hours after my dinner.

And I can have no coffee so I am having a cup of tea in the morning.

Welcome to Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Thank you

sometimes you just have to trust in your faith

Go in Peace – thanks be to God.

Papas World – Day# 44 – I need a haircut – going back to my youth!

My oh my – I told Sherry several weeks ago – you might want to cut my hair!

But then I decided – the heck with it – you see –

back in the late ’60’s and through the ’70’s

I had long hair and rode a motorcycle

Just a freedom of expression.

I was not for the WAR in NAM.

I had friends who were recruited and drafted

and some never made it back.

I also was in a car accident when I was a senior in H.S.

and spent 51 days in the hospital –

not knowing if I would ever walk again.

Me my Senior year

I was never drafted – but I went to work one week after graduation

I had too – and 47 1/2 years later

I retired from that same company.

So – that was my time of having long hair all those years ago

The problem at least in my mind – my hair is natural curley

So – I looked like Carrot Top only light brown!

I was a Toe Head growing up!

Today – it has been almost two months without a haircut

and since I started Juice Plus 14 years ago

my hair grows really fast – so much that to keep it from covering my ears

I get a haircut every four weeks!

So – I am over due by four weeks and today it is

a Silver – curly gray – white and long!

I have no idea how long this will last but I am not going to expose myself

to this horrible virus –

do you know that now it has surpassed ALL other illness’s

including Heart and Cancer to become number one cause of death

in our great country!

And all in seven weeks with Social Distancing and Sheltering

in place!

So – here I am – fast becoming a HIPPIE once again! LOL

Thinking back all those years ago

The wind in my hair as I rode my bike –

That was before mandatory helmets

And – just after that phase – I met my wife to be.

Now today she will see just what she missed or –

not missed – as it was as curly as this picture.

Papas World – Sheltering – Day # 43 – THE LADIES!

When we married – each for the second time 38 years ago

She brought into my life two beautiful daughters.

I raised them as my own as she helped me raise my two sons.

Today – after all these years – we remain close –

And they have become the THREE LADIES IN MY LIFE!

Debby – Sherry & Tammy

They are married now – one living 10 miles away

with a set of twin girls – both nine.

And the only boy ( grandson) who is five.

The other lives 65 miles away –

and has three teen age daughters

One in college – two at home!

Maddy – soon to be 20
Ella – soon to be 17
and Sarah – soon to be 14
taken as we celebrated my 60th birthday.

While we do not see them as often as we do the younger ones

and now in day #43 of SHELTERING –

Sherry asked me when this is over –

What is the first thing you want to do?

See our family I said.

My sons live seven hours away.

Back in NWPA

We try to get back there when we can.

But that is hard to do.

So we call them – catching up –

My youngest son has his own Energy Auditing business

and contracts with the state and power companies.

My oldest son runs the crews for him.

We are very proud of all four

and when this is over will sometime this summer make that trip back home.

The days seem to run all together –

although Sherry remains very busy in her internet stay at home business.

Her monthly check has increased.

Health and nutrition and growing your own produce

fits in this time of Sheltering.

Debby and Tammy
all those years ago

Today I cherish my LADIES in my life.

We all are here for each other

and both have followed in their mothers footsteps

Sharing – selling – and teaching good health and nutrition.

Papas World – Day # 33 Sheltering in place, ZOOM

As the days pass
we see new things
helping out people from a distance

ZOOM – which Sherry has been using since it first

appeared – for her network business in The Juice Plus Company.

Now – there is the weekly “HENS PARTY”

A group that has met the last couple years or so

onec a week for lunch and a movie.

Now it is a once a week ZOOM PARTY!

Of course you do not
get all dressed up
no make up
hats – drinks
and lots of laughs

Now – we await our second “FRIENDS ZOOM” on Friday nights

for “HAPPY HOUR”!

There are four couples – who have been friends for I guess 33 years & more!

So – we decided to “ZOOM” and it was new to them!

But – a happy hour with fireballs – some beer and Vodka & Tonics.

First one was themed

HATS & SUNGLASSES

Not sure what this one will be

But it turned into a THREE HOUR HAPPY HOUR!

It has been peaceful at home
we walk – ride our bikes
and take long country back roads rides.

We are trying to keep it as normal as we can.

Once a week we select a different vendor or eatery

and order for pickup or curbside

to help support them in this time of need

to keep them going – a little bit of ourselves to them

Since I am not allowed
to do laundry
seems I do not know what to put where
I fold ( sometimes)
and put my own clothes away
I do the outside
mowing – trimming
in the SUNSHINE!

Family – this is the hardest for us – we are near the three youngest

The three oldest are a hour and half away

and they are in the age group now where they mostly do their own thing

19 – 16 & 13 – soon all three will have birthdays

Then the younger three – twins – 9 years old

and the youngest and only boy 5 years old

Bode – MorMor – Taylor & Cassidy
Each night like clock work
Cassidy calls her MorMor
and Bode – whom hangs on every movement
she does – Taylor – who is old before her day
and talks to her MorMor

It is the hardest with these three –

but we have done FAMILY ZOOMS

and have seen them from a distance

laughing – ZOOMING the three oldest in their yard

and of course all the family at the same time

This has been the hard part for us

See – we are a family unit – constantly staying in touch

making the journey to see both sets of families

sharing times all together.

Friday ” ZOOM HAPPY HOUR”

We are blessed – we try to keep it normal

ZOOM has become a big part of our lives

Church – Juice Plus teams – family – friends

and last night for the first time – Book club.

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

Day # 33
Sheltering in place
Social distancing

Papas World – Day # 28 Sheltering in place.

A normal routine?

Yesterday was Thursday – Maundy Thursday.

Which in a normal time – we would of gone to the 7:30 pm. service

at our church – Community Lutheran Church – Sterling Va.

We spent the day doing the small things around the house.

However – you tend to run out of small things!

Puzzle # 5 of six!

I have found myself more and more working on puzzles

Sherry is finishing up the taxes

and I made a call to the maintenance firm who we have a contract through

to set up the semi yearly tune up on the two HVAC systems we have.

On our walk in the warm weather

It is that time of year – and we have it done in the Fall & Spring!

I was able to schedule it for two weeks out !

Hoping by that time – things will loosen up a bit!

However – I did question them on the procedure

and was satisfied that we would be safe with doing this!

Sherry has been sewing Masks and we had to deliver to a friend

I left them on their steps and we had delivered several

to the Church Mail Box in Sterling.

Our Youth director had put out a message

Her grand parents really needed them!

So – Sherry made them and we also dropped them off!

Back in Normal times
Sherry walking with Taylor
to the entrance to our church

By 7:30 PM. we were sitting at the table

Two Candles – a small bottle of wine

Two glasses & the computer tuned into the live stream on face book

A printed off bulletin of the service

and watching as members and friends from back home joined us.

Sherry had put out a invite on her web page

She had also done this for Palm Sunday service.

And – a lot of people joined in!

Sherry & Tom
MorMor & Papa

The Maundy Thursday service ends up with the stripping of the altar

And we have participated in this in the past.

It is something you remember – at least for me.

And for us emotional as well.

What has become abnormal in these days

had a piece of normal inserted back into our lives

as it has been for over 2000 years!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
