Papa’s World – Day #27 Sheltering in place.

Walking a nature trail
all by ourselves!

Yesterday – we dicided to ride our bikes and then walk

a new Nature trail we discovered the other day.

We had found this by accident – a tunnel had been installed

In the new over 55 community being built one half mile away!

We were riding our bikes on the paved path

and just happened to glance over the bank and saw the entrance!

Rocks placed on the trail to cross the wet waterway!

We followed the path and went trough the tunnel and found

THREE nature trails varying in length

three miles being the longest!

So , we parked the bikes and locked them up

and started walking through marsh lands and forests and watershed.

It was well done with gravel – small crushed pavement

and mowed so we did not get our feet wet.

It was quiet and NO ONE was to be seen!

This is called the Broad run water shed and eventually

ends up in the Potomac River!

We walked in the forest and in fields!

Walking – we received alerts on our phones

a rain storm was approaching

and we were about 2/3 the way through!

In addition to the makers and historical facts on signs

These what I think are entrances to storm drains

and they were hand painted – very cool!

The walk was through forests and marsh lands that had many

planted trees that had been protected with plastic tubes.

We saw many signs of animal prints and tracks

The marsh was impressive as I had no idea it was there!

Needless to say – just as we finished it started to sprinkle.

We still had to bike almost two miles

in the rain.

On the way back – we got soaked

and Sherry had a accident and hit a curb with her knee

when she went down.

It ended up very painful – but we iced it

and today she is moving well.

We were afraid she had maybe cracked the knee cap.

Providing the recovery of physical things such as

her running the 10 mile cherry blossom race.

Her recovery from something like this that is not a break

is exceptional and myself also.

Papas World – getting ready – Spring is here – Tower Gardens

Good morning!
We returned from Florida
the weather was great
saw my first robin
and decided to put
our Tower Gardens together
and start our seedlings!

I unpacked and uncovered the two Tower Gardens

that last November I cleaned up and put into storage!

One was taken apart and covered up and stored in the patio.

The other taken apart and put on shelves in the garage.

After I cleaned up the patio
from the mild winter we had.

This year I said to Sherry –

lets spit them up – one in the enclosed patio

and the other one on the back patio!

They got so big – that it was difficult working

all around them to pick cucumbers and tomato’s!

This one will be all different lettuces – herbs – chard

some bee flowers – mostly leafy plants!

This one will be cucumbers – tomato’s – peppers –

celery – radish – plus others –

I needed space for the vines to spread out.

We also are going to plant potato’s in large pots

like you see in the background.

I did this for the first time last year

and had 30 or 40 potato’s – small ones but tasty!

just before we left for our month in Florida –

We cleaned up and removed all plants!

It served us from end of October to end of January.

Had we not left – it still would of been producing!

This one has a built in timer and grow lights at the top.

Since it is in the garage and space is limited

No cucumbers or tomato’s!

We eat greens everyday !

Here are our growing pods
and all the seeds we are planting
we also plant what we call BEE FLOWERS

We have started our seedlings – which will take three or four weeks

under grow lights from the Tower Garden in the garage,

We have started various plantings –

38 plants total to start.

We have room for 56 plants!

But – even selecting everyday from these Towers

We can not eat it all!

We give some to family and some to neighbors!

Our neighbor next door has one – and she can not eat it all!

One – if planted properly –

can feed a family produce so that they buy very little from the store!

If any at all!

Papas World – Sarasota – Botanical Gardens

We were invited to spend the day in Sarasota Florida.

And – we were scheduled to see the Botanical Gardens

I did not know what to expect

and was quite surprised at what unfolded

as we spent over two hours walking

a paradise of green lush gardens!

unexpected!

and BUTTERFLIES!

with roots expanded outward
to better balance the tree
as there is nothing but sand

just the sound
calming
and lush with vegetation

As we walked – I was amazed at just how everything just blended

into nature – how calming it was – and so shaded!

You would never know you were in the middle of Sarasota!

And you would find yourself gazing out over the water!

Papas World – Took a little trip – with ELLA!

We had been planning this for 6 months –

She turned 16 last Summer and for her present

We would take her to the thing she wanted the most!

Ever since she could talk and walk

SHE LOVES STAR WARS !

Everything in her bedroom – STAR WARS!

So – we were coming to Florida for a month

just to get out of the cold

We could take her out of school

( she had all her classes caught up)

And we found good price on plane ticket home

( it cost more to check her bag than her ticket)

We arrived on Saturday in Winter Haven

and we had tickets for Monday at Hollywood Studios!

It was everything she wanted!

We managed to either ride or attend 10 different rides

and shows while we were there!

how to operate the TV
in our condo! LOL

She is quiet and so good respectful

For some reason when ever she gets into a car

she falls asleep!

We made it to the rides

the longest wait was a little over a hour

some were only 20 minutes

and several of the shows we walked right in!

She is so easy to take anywhere

polite – quiet -and thankful!

It was a long day – we stayed until after the park closed!

I would take her anywhere!

Papas World – company asked – How do you know what to write about?

It’s like this!
You make something out of nothing!
The story is there – you just have to see it
in your mind!

We had company and were talking and I was asked

“How do you know what to blog about” ?

“I do not know I answered”!

I just see something and I write!

I did not PLAN to write this blog this morning

But – I have a ability to ” SEE” stories in everything I see!

” How often do you write(blog) ?

“EVERYDAY” I replied!

I try to bring humor
I try to find balance
and I try to look at life

Another conversation we had –

” You go to bed at 8 to 8:30 pm.” ?

“WHY”?

Well – I get tired and find when that happens

If I go to bed – I fall asleep right away.

If I push past it – then I am awake until 1 or 2 AM.

And – I still will wake up before 5 am.

And then – I feel terrible the rest of the day!

That could be my wife
but not me
I am blessed with
a great memory
and I find to have that memory
is to be consistent in whatever I do!

Now – I told our company –

one other thing I do – is I never use a alarm clock!

I do not need one – I have what I call

a internal clock –

If I need to get up at say 3:45 am.

I just wake up!

Or if you tell me you want up at a certain time

I will wake you up!

I do not know how this is –

or how it works –

But it is me – and I know it not to be normal!

seeing funny things
jogs my memory!

Today – I came downstairs at 4:35 am.

I had gotten up at 12:30 am. Bathroom break!

Could not fall asleep

So I came down and looked at my emails

Looked at my stats on my blogs.

Saw what was on face book

And then I went back to bed at 1:30 am.

And fell a sleep again.

I had gotten 7 plus hours of sleep

and I was ready to go!

While posting on face book
I came across this
and then it came into
my mind to write this blog!

My wife Sherry understands me –

not the who – what or why I am me!

But she accepts it – she is opposite –

and that is why it works!

I learned a long time ago
Just see the other side
might not agree
but it is safer!
LOL

She is all the time asking me

“WHERE IS MY PHONE”?

“HAVE YOU SEEN MY CUP OF TEA”?

But – be that what it is – she takes care of all things$$$$!

She takes care of everything that deals with bills –

I – on the other hand – clean – mow the lawn

Do the repairs I know how to do

DO NOT ASK ME TO WORK ON THE CAR!!!!!

She can make almost anything
but requires a book to follow
Not me – I just plow ahead
and from memory and feel
put it together

This works for both of us –

we know our boundries

we know each other well

She has taken so many classes

and attending so many health fairs

She is why I am still alive today!

I married a women Rich in thought

word and deed

A women rich in history

No – I did not know what I was going to write about

when I got out of bed this morning

Papas World – welcome to my World of thoughts!

I started this blog with the idea of putting my thoughts

into writing – trying to keep it simple

and good humored –

about family – friends and my life

I spread happiness
whenever I can
something positive
something funny
and something
to feel good about!

There is so much negative – so many postings that hurt.

So – here I am – bearing my soul!

For to be able to post everyday

and to scroll past the negative

I welcome being the quote above!

And my wife
is the same way
a little bit left
of where I fit in
but we always agree
to disagree
and move on!

And I am fortunate to have found her

When we made our vows all those years ago

The sermon was based on

The Church on a rock

as in foundation

That remains true 38 years later!

Not a day goes by –

“Have you seen my phone”?

LOL

She is the driver on health

walking – ( I DO NOT RUN) !

Been there – done that –

and I always end up hurting myself!

But she is a runner

she likes it

and has always placed high in her age group!

I – for some reason – do not like wine!

Nor do I do SHOTS!

Not into Whiskey etc.

I will drink beer –

but it has to be light!

Generally – I am not a drinker –

but with our friends

I can hold my own!

And that is rare when it happens!

A few years before we moved South

we had to put her down

she had been with us for almost 14 years!

I held her on the way to the vet.

She would lose the ability to walk

Her hind legs just would not work!

She licked my face –

Sherry drove – I cried!

And that day in my mind I made a pact with her-

She would be the last – but never forgotten

R.I.P. Samantha – Sam for short.

My first Super bowl watching

on a color TV!

It was in the I think mid 60’s.

My father was part owner

of the Western Auto in the small town

I grew up in.

On the floor was the first color TV in that store.

We gathered there and watched the game!

The next week – it was in our living room!

Prior to that –

He came home and announced

WE WERE GOING TO HAVE COLOR

on our TV!

He then put this plastic colored film

over the black and white TV!

IT WAS GREEN ON THE BOTTOM!

BLUE ON THE TOP!

AND ORANGE – YELLOW – RED IN THE MIDDLE!

That was the rage back then –

Funny today!

We all ate at the table –

my younger brother

My older brother and sister – 10 & 15 years older

were gone – college and married

Friday’s were no meat –

pancakes –

Salmon patties – and my dads favorite

OUSTER SOUP!

I do not know how he ate that!

But he sat at the head of the table

with a hot electric griddle

And flipped pancakes

while my mom stood by the stove

Frying the salmon patties!

I still can see and smell it today

The best of home cooking

and my mom baked cookies- rolls and bread every day!

And home made pies and cake!

She was known all over town for her baking!

I think I got that from my mother –

And I really do not need instructions

I just sort of remember and just wing it!

Sherry -not that way –

and she is a excellent cook

love her homemade soups!

I am neither half full

or half empty

I love solving problems and organizing

and I pay attention to details

I am a bull dog when it comes to doing something

once I start

( that sometimes is not starting)

I carry on to the end!

Ask me to arrange a outing –

and I am on it!

Just something I am good at!

However – working on a car – repairing something-

well – I have no patience –

and if something breaks or goes wrong

I am done – and that is what I am bad at!

Papas World – Blogging – sharing the positive

I never knew I was going to blog –

My wife – Sherry – told me in 2011

” You need to get on face book “

All your friends keep asking about you!

This is so true
I remember my mother buying
me what was then called “Blue Jeans”
They were so baggy
and the “IN” style then was
skin tight
black or red socks
and high top
black and white
tennis sneakers!

So – I signed up for my site

and began writing short daily happenings

I called them ” JUST ANOTHER DAY IN MY LIFE”

And numbered them from the day I started in sequence!

This is true in our oldest
daughters house
open a cupboard
and there are all these
containers with no lids!

I started to accumulate “Friends” outside my old friends.

And they were from all over the Country

and some from the World!

Most I did not know personally

But through our “Home Business”

I was too much for some people
but I wrote about my life
and the lives of my loved ones
and the lives of my closest
and dearest friends.

I determined that from reading the daily paper

and watching the news

That I would bring POSITIVE – FUNNY

and GOOD thoughts to my site.

There fore I very seldom do anything Political.

I keep it pretty much as I stated

Which is getting hard to do with

everything going on.

I so believe this
and hope one day
that we all can be nice
to each other

Then – my wife found a site that will publish

your face book writings for certain time periods

and publish them in a book form.

My one desire is to write a book on memories I have.

She choose a six month period and had it printed

It is so cool – with my picture on the front –

However – I had written so much –

That if I had them all printed –

there would be TEN full books!

I most likely in my younger years
could of truthfully stated this!
LOL

And she said this would be too expensive

You need to write and put it down

where we can all read it!

So , I did , eight years ago –

I started a blog – I wrote a lot but then for some reason

I quit and believe it or not – I LOST IT somewhere

IN THE CLOUD!

I could not find it again and had never written down the site!

All those things were gone
but she told me she had met a friend
through networking
named Belinda
who could get me started again
on a new site and a new blog!
A BIG HUG TO BELINDA

So – we met – and she was talking me through the startup!

When lo and behold – we found one of the two old sites!

Yes – I had two sites and we stumbled over one of them.

It had 4 blogs and I was on my way!

That was last April – and today –

I have written over 200 blogs

and have accumulated 180 FOLLOWERS!

From all over the WORLD!

I have finally found my passion
writing – family – friends
and sharing my life

The main thing is –

When I am gone – my memories will linger on.

I have no one left that I grew up with as family

except two niece’s – three great niece – and great – great niece and nephews.

My two sons – but the rest are gone.

No one remembers that life of or came before!

Today I am the eldest
the one whom they call
when they want to know
about family
Today I am all that is left to remember
to put it all down

So – I write – everyday – I put down thoughts

I put down memories

I put down current events and family

THIS IS MY BOOK !

I have lived a good life – ups and downs –

Almost gone

but still here.

I record trying to stay true to my beliefs

FAMILY- CHURCH- GOD – FRIENDS – COUNTRY

” DO THE RIGHT THING”

” DO ALL THE LITTLE THINGS RIGHT – AND THE BIG THINGS –

WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES”

That is how I have lived my life.

Papas World -packing up – going to Florida – Ella

She turned 16 last July.

For her present – she would ride with us to Florida

and then fly back home –

You see – she is a huge Star Wars fan.

So – we will take her to Universal’s Star Wars!

When Maddy turned 16 –

we took her to Florida to swim with the Manatee’s!

We are going anyways to spend a warm month in Florida

and the opportunity was there for us to do this.

We also have plans to see friends who live down there

and to meet up with other friends

who travel South for the Winter.

We will take in both coasts – staying in the middle

South of Orlando.

Some have been years and years since we have seen them

although we stay in touch through face book.

Social media is a great place to inter act.

Going to Florida with one grand daughter

making her birthday wish come true

Getting some warm weather – play some golf –

meet up with friends

But – not going to ride anything that goes way up and down

or around very fast

My life in the fast lane is WATCHING! LOL

Papas World -Living life – one day at a time – my way.

I am now in my 70’s – and six years ago – it almost came to a end!

Today – I am here – and have found that when you experience

a awaking such as I did –

At least in my frame of mind –

I live life one day at a time

and I am doing it my way –

With guidance from my wife!

IT IS NOT FOR ME TO QUESTION WHY

BUT FOR ME TO DO OR DIE!

That just about sums it up!

We have been married 37 years and together 38 years!

That is a long time!

When I had my heart attack – she had already changed our lifestyles.

But – for me – I had not done very well in what I ate –

drank or just in general lived!

My past caught up with me –

I had lived pretty much as this quote!

Then we changed – and I reformed –

lucky that I did – because I should of died!

A Widow Maker Heart Attack should do that!

They told me they had never seen someone

who had a massive Heart Attack – so healthy!

Made me feel good – but did not change the fact

I DID THIS TO MYSELF –

and – If I had not changed when I did

I wouldn’t be here!

Very sobering!

I learned a lesson – the hard way !

You get one chance at life –

I consider myself as having a second chance.

I am not wasting it this time –
I had my six year check up –

A nuclear test and a ultra sound

and a stress test.

I passed all with flying colors after six years!

I still have scar tissue on my heart

I have to take med’s because of the heart attack.

But – I am following the course Sherry has sent me on.

After SIX YEARS – I have no signs of hardening of the arteries!

After FOUR BY PASSES – I am well –

I AM LIVING MY SECOND LIFE CHANCE

ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Papas World – A chunk of coal & a pigs tail!

I guess I was maybe 6 or 7 – and it was the morning of Christmas.

I had been bad – so bad that I was told –

Santa knew I was naughty!

That previous Summer – I had run from my mother in the backyard.

I do not remember what I had done –

but my older sister and my grand mother

were watching me from the front porch – looking over the side railing.

My mother and grandmother were a lot alike.

Both small – grandma gentle with 11 children.

Mom had her gentleness but she was feisty!

She ruled the house!

Grandma passed when she was 85 – mom almost 98!

That day she chased me in the yard – I made it to the front porch

and I crawled in as far as I could go – spider webs and all!

I hated spiders and still do to this day.

She managed to coax me out – but I got a licking from her.

As I get older – I look back in fondness at those times.

My mom was very good to me –

That morning of Christmas – all my family was sitting in the living room.

And for my first present they handed me a wrapped box-

all red and white with a ribbon.

I was excited – my little brother was maybe 2 years old

I took the ribbon off and then the wrapping paper.

It was like a shoe box and I could rattle it by shaking it!

I opened the lid and looked inside –

I did not say anything – but I bolted for the door –

No shoes or boots and out I went in my PJ’S!

Down the side yard – I ran as fast as I could –

Through the snow toward the big red barn.

And I reached the railroad tracks –

And with all my might I threw that box as far as I could.

That was the Christmas for being bad –

I GOT A LUMP OF COAL AND A PIGS TAIL!

Funny how things remain in your head –

I had learned my lesson

My mom taught me well – until she passed- we laughed about this.

She was tiny – she was gentle – she was my mom.

And today my angel in heaven smiling down.

She couldn’t catch me – but in the end

She taught me a lesson in life that I will always remember!

Papas World – family – sharing a holiday.

We all live within 1 1/2 hours drive –

we try to share time together during the Holidays

Usually a overnight –

a campfire – a dinner – games and music.

A lot of planning goes into this as they also spend time with in laws.

But we find a way – and this time we all met at the Krohns

Tammy and Marcus’s house for a Christmas day and sleep over.

some drinks – music – and great traditional food.

Papas World – Our grand kids and health- eating healthy

Crazy as it reads
this is true
sugar is in everything

When we go to shows as a vendor-

we will demonstrate how much sugar is in

each popular drink – snack or breakfast cereals.

We do this by taking the total amount of grams of sugar

and dividing it by three – which then equals a 3 gram sugar packet

Like you find on tables to sweeten your coffee – tea etc.

This method is a eye opener –

for parents to see just how much sugar is in a can of soda!

Or a packet of skittles – a candy bar – a snack bar!

Little children do not know and it becomes a addiction – SUGAR!

Living life – doing it my way – the name of my blog –

And that is how our life together has gone.

Phoenix TEN years ago
Juice Plus Conference

The years have passed – but we still maintain a healthy lifestyle

Traveling – helping other people –

To this day – we love our life

When you come close to passing away

at least for me

there was no flashes of my past

no profound moments

but there was a inner peace

one that just ” LIVE FOR THE MOMENT”

and be grateful for what I lived.

We could not do this without each other

Today – we gather our belongings

pack up and head home

but first a trip to the Farmers Market

then the highway.

Our next long awaited trip

in February with our second oldest grand child

a trip for her 16th. birthday

One month in the warmth of Florida

and one week for her and a trip to

Star Wars theme park.

She is a huge fan !

Papa’s World – just THINGS in my life!

We have been busy the last year –

Friends have visited – almost all of them –

at different times –

So we have toured D.C.

Played golf ( 2 different times – different friends)

We have just sat back and talked –

We entertained overnight a Movie Star

and a World class musician on the piano – accordion and organ.

We have traveled the country –

We both are into health –

Sherry is a certified Health Coach

after a life of Lab Tech – Office payroll – Billing – Manufacturing –

Manager – Logistics – Outside Sales –

And now a SSC ( Senior Sales Coodinator )

for Juice Plus Company

We travel – her team is countrywide.

We live life for ourselves – our friends – our family

and our kids and grand kids.

We do many things at our church and for our church

Book club ( Sherry has monitored for NINE YEARS !

SAS committee ( Steward ship for all Seasons )
