A call came on Wednesday – can you make 4:30 pm. if I make tee times on Friday?
Of course, we can – make them and we will be there – and so we did.
Sherry and I left early as we wanted to do some things in Wilmington, N.C.
Unless we go for a certain thing or event – we do not get there all that often.
We were golfing at Magnolia Greens located some eleven miles from the city.
Our friends live there and I think it to be one of the better courses down here.
Twenty-seven holes – and we were playing just nine this late afternoon.
Now it looks like we are looking for balls in the water – but we were in a huge sand trap on a par three – Cindy was raking the sand and Buck and I were picking up my ball and going to play his on the grass.
LOL story of my life!
We once again played a scramble against the ladies and once again we lost!
We had a couple bad holes – but we also played well – here we are on in two – par four hole and a putt for a birdie – which we did not make and ended up with a par.
You can see where Bucks putt went and I had still had to putt – did not make it and we settled for a par.
I love golf on TV!
It turned out to be a great day – beautiful weather – no humidity – 80 degrees!

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing with friends on a late Friday afternoon.
Buck – Cindy Sherry – our first time golfing on the island.
We had seen this course when we vacationed here about ten years ago –
and we both said “SOMEDAY”!
Well – that day came and we met our friends Buck and Cindy there –
however – we could look out to the ocean and see a storm – thunder and lightning and
we had some sprinkles!
So we decided to go into the bar & grill – have a drink and wait it out!
Which after some 35 minutes – it looked like it had passed and we began.
I had already hit from the tees father back – and this is number one – this course I like because it is open!
MY GENERATION!
My phone takes a picture and if you hold your finger on it – it actually goes through the swing – I wish you could hear the sound on this tee off by Sherry – SMACK – she connected straight down the fairway.
This one is also her second shot off the fairway – “SEE THE SOUND” as I have been told!
YEP – ME! LOL
It was a good day golfing – the rain did come back on the last two holes but was just a sprinkle –
It was a good first time golfing here and we both want to go back.

OUR DREAM GOLFING – THIS TIME OAK ISLAND, N.C. WITH FRIENDS!
The day prior we went golfing with our friends the McBrides at Carolina National Golf Course.
Cindy Sherry and Buck
Friends for a very long time – they live some 30 plus miles from us – and we play once a week when we can.
Buck teeing off
We were playing a Fred Couples signature course in Carolina National just outside Supply, N.C.
Cindy baked me chocolate chip cookies as a birthday gift.
We were almost the last group out for the afternoon and we played nice and easily enjoyed the wildlife such as this large turtle crossing the fairway.
Sherry was about to tee off and placed it right down the middle.
Sherry – victory in the guys vs gals golf scramble!
Thanks for reading Papa’s World – my next blog is the ride home – sunset and then the next day – my birthday was spent painting the floor of the front porch – and I loved it!
PAPA’S WORLD – at Carolina National – gals vs guys!
We have driven by this golf course it seems like a hundred times!
This course sits on the right on Route 17 as you drive South to North Myrtle Beach in N.C.
It always looked so well groomed and made you just want to stop and take a picture!
Well – finally – we played it – with Buck and Cindy – our long time friends.
We try to play once a week with them – either toward there home which will be about 40 miles from our new home-
Or they drive down and stay the night as they did here and we golf the next day.
Cindy and Sherry – getting ready to be called up to the first tee!
It is always a scramble – we all hit – and then the gals go to their best ball and the guys do the same.
Then you do it all over again – and they are never in trouble – always down the middle –
and each one hits a good ball off the tee.
Playing the senior tees for us – they have a advantage on their tee box and our drives are about the same.
Plus – they are always in the middle of the fairway and I never know where I will be! LOL
This course is one that when you play it – you want to come back!
I would rate this one right up with the best ones we have played and it was a nice course!
There were so many scenes I wanted to take pictures of – but we had a group behind us that was pushing and a group ahead that was always waiting for the group ahead of them.
It was not to my advantage to take pictures as we waited as the group behind could not see what we were seeing with waiting on the other groups.
So – I just relaxed and waited – along with the gals and when we could hit – they hit first and I hit last.
All in all – it turned into a relaxing golf day as no one could go anywhere and we just played the course.
But – I want to return – and by the way – we finally overcame our losing streak – we beat them!
By a total of three strokes over 18 holes!
They are so hard to beat – and if we could putt – well – that would be a big difference!
Thank you for reading Papa’s World – WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY – FAMILY MEETS FRIENDS!
Today – I post some pictures – just random pictures – but ones I have close to my heart!
Taylor holding MorMor’s hand – in turn MorMor also holding Bode’s hand.
They adore Sherry – whom they call MorMor – Swede for Mothers Mother!
When we walk with all three – it usually is Taylor who loses out to the other two in holding her hands.
This time it was Cassidy – who with each passing day – is becoming more and more independent.
These two are coming closer and closer together as they grow up.
They are twins – but had to come early as Taylor was taking all the nutrients.
Taylor is going to be really tall – close to six foot while Cassidy will be like her mother 5’6″.
Taylor loves to ride horses – Cassidy has a variety of interests –
but will sit for hours drawing off her computer and is really good!
I thought this to be funny – it brought a smile to my face!
We moved south to find more time to golf – warmer weather and being close to our friends!
Sherry and Cindy – we have been friends with the McBrides for almost 35 years.
They moved about 25 or 26 years to the Wilmington N.C. area – and we would spend time with them once or twice a year.
Then we moved to NVA and they would do the same.
Now – we are building a new home about 40 miles away from them –
and if the weather is nice – we golf once a week with them –
always on a new course – could be on the weekend or a week day.
They can and do stay with us and we do the same with them.
If our new home is not done on time and we have to give up the condo – they have offered us a place to stay.
FRIENDS! GOOD TIMES! LAUGHS!
This is what we have wanted to do for a very long time – it was too expensive in NVA and down here so many courses to choose from.
We both have a love to golf – one of Sherry’s highlights in golfing came with the day she broke 50 –
and it was a day she was golfing with her father!
A memory she shall always carry with her on the course. Now – she beats me! LOL
The view we have almost every morning when we wake up – the master bedroom has a big glass sliding door on her side of the bed – where all she has to do each morning is open her eyes and see this.
I see it each morning also – but I always am up before the dawn – have been that way all my life.
My favorite time of the day – writing my blog – sipping my coffee and watching the sun rise –
listening to the sounds of nature and just enjoying morning time.
Now the sun shines – causing a rainbow in the mist of the water fountain!
A peaceful setting we shall miss when we leave – but we have had by the end – nine months.
A memory we shall carry forward into the new home.
You can hear the pounding surf a half mile away –
We walk there almost every day –
the water fowl – geese – ducks – mallards – swans – otter – turtles – snakes
and really huge fish we can see when we look down onto the water.
Storms blowing in and out – rain and wind – nature at its best.
It would of been nice to have lived to the left of the picture – single family homes!
But – they were way too expensive – and the condos here – not enough space and no garage.
We have a storage unit – not a lot – but enough so that it would not fit.
The town houses here besides the condo’s – were out of our price range –
plus the one we looked at – needed a lot of work.
This is a beautiful area – one I shall remember –
We were blessed to have spent time here – but it also was expensive!

SHERRY CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH HOME BUSINESS The Juice Plus Company
We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!
Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.
Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.
It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.
It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –
lots of sunshine and very good friends!
Game on – girls vs boys!
Cindy – teeing off – Sherry spotting the ball!
Sherry teeing off – note: BOTH of them always hit it straight down the middle!
They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!
And – darn it – one will make the putt!
We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!
All smiles – ready for the back nine! Time to pull it together! We got off to a good start – going up 2 after the first three holes – and then four by the fifth!
But they started coming back – we pared -they had a birdie!
Going into the last hole – we were up by one!
We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!
Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!
Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.
We have been doing this for years – guys vs. gals – always fun – but they are good!
Sherry and Cindy – they decided to walk the 18 holes – Sherry got a new pull cart!
I actually believe these 27 holes compare to the best in the area including Myrtle Beach!
On this day – the flowers were in full bloom and reminded me of Augusta!
Almost every hole was like this!
A view of the driving range from the outdoor patio of the clubhouse!
Sherry Cindy and Buck – having a beverage on the outdoor patio after 18 holes!
On one of the tee boxes – everything was blooming!
We have played this course many times over the years!
They have called this home for at least twenty years.
Having bought and sold and built here many times.
This is the main reason we came South to this general area.
Our new home will be about 40 minutes away –
so daily golf is available!
Sherry on the patio of their home that overlooks one of the large waterways on the course!Cindy on the same patio of their home looking in a different direction from Sherry!Cindy was to the left – Sherry to my right and Buck straight across from me – looking at the course across the water!
This is the second home they have built here – both in this water area and both had like views –
only this one is downsized from the other one.
Buck and I on the tee box about to tee off!
We – Buck and I – did our usual scramble – and we had a record for us – we shot a 39 with a double boogie the last hole!
If you are ever in N.C. just South of Leland and Wilmington – this is a public course – 27 holes – stop in and make a tee time – it will surprise you and you will love it – one of the best around the area!
Cindy and Sherry – one will walk and then change up for the other to drive.
We started off in the rain – but the forecast said it would move on out –
and the sun and warmth would be there!
AND THAT IS JUST WHAT IT DID!
One of the views – we had to cross over here – but it was not a busy road.
Are there Gators here? YES THERE ARE!
Sherry Buck Cindy about to putt!
We played well – Buck and I – enough so that they beat us by one stroke the first nine and we won by three stokes the back nine. Do not be fooled by how close they made it – they are always right down the middle and second shot is either on the green or close to it! They are good when in a scramble!
We bought what is called the first tee card – we all have them and it allows us to play over 32 courses
at reduced rates – all are on the N.C. side of the border – and our new house is right in the middle!
Sherry going for the green on a par three over the marsh.
Cindy going for the green over the marsh.
I did not like this tee box as it was like a practice mat.
The only part of the whole course that they did this on.
You could not put a tee in – only if you found a seam.
Thank you for reading Papa’s World.
It was a fun day – and because it was cart path only –
it took us five hours to play and we did not finish up until 6:00 PM.
But – we finally beat them on the back nine by three strokes and it was hard doing that!

Here we are – in our early ’70’s – homeless – living with daughters –
until we pack up and head South
to North Myrtle Beach S.C.
First thing we do as vagabonds – is play some golf!
We made it a point – have fun – play golf – and enjoy the warm weather while we can!
Here we played one of our favorite courses in NVA!
Deer are everywhere – and are so tame – even when you hit toward them
they do not move!
You have to be pretty good to hit them and we are not good! LOL
Our view from youngest daughter and husbands home!
We would have almost three months to wait before we left –
pack up and go –
to a place we had never been and found by accident
OCEAN KEYES – North Myrtle Beach
every day a 1/2 mile walk to the sand and water of the beach.
First – we had to downsize – made dozen of trips to the Salvation Army – sold almost 95% of our household furniture with the house ! And got ourselves a storage unit – one big enough to walk in and through all our “STUFF”!
I thought I would MISS STUFF but I don’t!
I have moved on – just as we were about to do!
But first saying our goodbyes – these are what I will miss – FAMILY!
You never get use to that – WHEN YOU THROW IT AWAY – REMEMBER THERE IS NO AWAY!
That is why we are back home for the Christmas time – for three weeks!
And we will come back again in late Feb. and early March.
They will come down to visit –
And our life will go on!
We will walk once again with them – we will share laughs – and in Jan. hope will bring them to us!We will meet up once again with old friends – laughing – exploring –And true to form – PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING! LOL!
ICE CREAM and a SMILE!
This one texts or calls everyday her MORMOR & PAPA!
FAMILY – fun times and memories made –
FUN TIMES and memories to be made!
NEW ADVENTURES AWAIT FOR THESE TWO – as we a\have traveled the World together and now they live only 40 miles from us!
Our friends of many years – Buck and Cindy – have lived down in N.C. for years
and now – we golf every week together.
Family is back home – friends are here!
Yes – the Sun set of a family home – the night before we left – rain shower cleaning the roadway – vagabonds!
We are blessed to have these places to stay –
and now – we have begun our new home build
and once again – it will become a FAMILY HOME!
Once again in the South – we will be together – family – as always – you never throw that away!
Cindy Sherry Buck on the green – now to select where we are putting from
We have decided to build a house – in the long run –
it will work out the same or cheaper than buying!
The market keeps going up for resales on houses
and we can build and have brand new for the same!
Cindy and Sherry – down the middle is normal for them – Cindy getting yardage to the pin!
And we will build right across the road from this and three other courses
in what is called Cameron Woods!
In fact within a 5 mile radius –
20 golf courses and two beaches
Ocean Isle beach and Sunset beach.
We had searched and searched – condos – houses- apartments
and by chance we found this – and the model –
Sherry once again had her dream home!
And it knocked off about 45 minutes for the drive back to NVA!
Sherry hitting off the middle to the green – water to the left!
All we are waiting for now is the plans to be final
and then a meeting with the construction manager
to go over those plans
and then a start and probable finish date
4 to 6 months start to finish!
By the time you are reading this
we will have already done that!
Buck and me – it was a great time to golf with friends on a very good course – to think there are three more in here and it is a mile from where we will live!Cindy hitting fro the fairway to the green!
We love this area – the drive to both beaches is less than 15 minutes
Shopping is 6 minutes
Calabash is 15 minutes
and Route 17 is ten minutes.
Our friends house is about 30 to 40 minutes
And a lot of places to dine out on the I.C.W.!
We have extended our stay where we are until the end of June
hoping that the build will be done
We have to buy furniture and move what we have in storage
down here.
Cindy – Buck – Papa – Sherry we are golfing regular now – mostly with our friends – whom we have golfed with for about 30 years!A lot of the golf cart paths run through the sand – we saw no gators but not sure if they are here or not – but saw signs for snakes!Cindy and Sherry discussing their next shot as we let a twosome play through – these ladies are serious and hard to tie!
We did not want to go farther South –
we wanted a temperate climate
and still be 7 hours to home!
Bridge to number 18 – the final hole with waterfall!
We have found that place here – among the golf courses and beaches
but still only a 30 minute drive to North Myrtle Beach
Alligator laying in the backyard of someones house! Across the water from the putting green!
Our friends – Jim – Dottie – Buck and Cindy – came for a visit!
And we planned to golf two different days!
The last day was at Oyster Bay – not very far from Calabash
The Seafood capital of the world
and home to many – many “GATORS” on the course!
BIG GATORS!
Jim & Buck
We had a gals vs guys match
and off we went –
I had listened to other players who had finished
talking to the starter about the “GATORS”
and how big they were!
Just laying there almost seemed it was dead until it moved its head!
We saw them a lot – esp. on the middle holes!
The ladies putting behind us – we were able to tell them where the “GATORS” were.
One par three – surrounded by water – except a small walking path
lined with flowers and tall bushes
kind of sketchy walking through there
had a drop zone right next to the green.
And a large sand trap.
Well – right next to the drop zone lay a six foot gator!
Dottie actually hit her ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the drop zone!
Where she left it for some future golfer to find as it ws too close
to that six foot gator!
We had a good time regardless –
you just did not look for golf balls as I think snakes are also here!
Me taking a picture of Jimmy taking a picture of two gators – one to his left and one to his right – the one on the left was very big!Cindy about to hit from the fairway – they are always in the middle which makes it so hard to beat them!Sherry lining up her putt – they also are always putting for either birdie or par!Jimmy hitting his Tee shot. Look close in the middle just between the fairway and trees – his ball going down the middle!Dottie playing her approach shot two strokes from there for par.The “GATOR” laying next to the sand trap and drop zone! They pared this hole!Beautiful but a lot of “GATORS” in there!People live here despite the “GATORS”!
We enjoyed this course despite the “GATORS”
being a fun course to play.
Lots of fairways and marsh – small lakes – water everywhere!
Again right down the middle! My co – pilot – Buck!
Thank you for reading Papa’s World
WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY
FAMILY MEETS FRIENDS!
Sherry and Cindy – Dottie walked to her ball
And yes – on the course called OYSTER BAY!
With all the “GATORS”!
It came down to the last hole – number 18 !
We had a boggy – long par 5 – missed putt and they pared!
GALS ONE UP AFTER 18
35 to 36!
70 to 71 !!!!!
I told you Jimmy – they are too good!

We have now golfed our second course since we moved to S.C.
THISTLE A SCOTTISH THEMED COURSE WITH LOTS OF WATER
We had a chance to grab tee times at this sought after course.
The whole theme is of Scotland
with the club house and grounds
and the road onto and into the course.
This part of N.C. close to the ocean is rather flat
but they molded this course into bunkers
with six tee boxes on each hole!
I was impressed at just how much they changed the landscape.
Plus – there is a lot of water hazards here!
And something you do not see in Scotland – GATORS!
This big one was sunning itself on the back side
of a raised green – and from the fairway
you could not see it!
Good thing no had hit long
because as I walked back to line up my putt
there it was!
Sherry and Cindy also saw another one when then went to find a ball
next to a water hazard
and carefully got out of there!
It was a great course – and because of the tees we played
we avoided a lot of water where they were!
A look at one of the many many water hazards!Gator laying on the bank sunning itselfSherry hitting from the fairwayCindy hitting from fairway – they both are never in trouble always down the middleClimbing the bank to the elevated green Getting ready to tee offAnd the dawn breaking of the day we went golfing from our Lanai
We always have fun golfing with Cindy and Buck
now that we are down here – they live about 40 minutes away
so we make tee times to play
this being the fourth time we have played together
since we came down late September and stayed with them for 5 days!
