Papa’s World – Together – Life and Fun!

Our life together has been for decades and decades –

Involved both Dottie and Cindy.

I knew Dotie before we were married, and I attended her wedding to my long-time friend Jim!

We all grew up in Eldred, Pa.

Cindy knew Jim and Dottie before we were introduced to her and her husband, Buck, by Dottie and Jim.

This was all in the early and mid-80s.

We raised our children together –

Took vacations and traveled the world together.

Today, we still meet up several times a year, and we live 38 miles from Cindy and Buck!

TOGETHER – LIFE and FUN!

Last year, on a trip to Florida with them.

The six of us are watching a Buffalo Bills game together.

Before they could walk –

Tammy and Marcus with Taylor and Cassidy – THE TWINS!

Today – Taylor on the left and Cassidy on the right with Tammy!

They are now Sophomores in H.S.

Each is their own individual.

Cassidy does competitive cheerleading –

And H.S. cheer.

Taylor plays the violin and rides horses.

Cassidy chose not to continue the violin, and she was first chair.

Taylor sings and composes her own songs!

The twins are different –

But if I hear them talk when out of sight-

It is hard for me to tell who is who!

The same but so different.

My GOOD THOUGHT for the day!

FUN is when you spend time with long-time friends!

Here – Buck and Cindy, Sherry, and I golf together!

For years and years, we played guys vs. gals.

But they got better, and we got worse, so we play a scramble with all four of us now!

But the most important part for me –

Is being together with friends for over four decades!

Friendships are important to us into our senior years.

FUN- HUMOR and GOOD THOUGHTS!

Papa and Sherry on one of our volunteer walks on the East end of Ocean Isle Beach for the Protection of Sea Turtles!

While we walk one mile each way, looking for any turtles crawled during the night to lay eggs-

We also pick up garbage along the way, and pictures are taken to document for the N.C. wildlife!

This is Debby and Mike – the oldest daughter and her husband –

And their three daughters- L to R – Maddy – Environmental Science degree and working in that field, the oldest.

Then, Ella, who graduated with a degree in Physical Education for school children, is working in the school system.

And Sarah, the youngest, has just completed her freshman year of college.

This picture is their happy place for every year of their lives –

In the Andrirondics at Raquet Lake.

They vacation there every year and have a family cottage.

Papa- Sherry – Cindy and Buck!

At MGM in National Harbor, Washington, D.C.

For 21 years, we lived in NVA!

Country life of WNY –

To the busy life of the beltway around D.C.

I once got lost and had to find my way –

No GPS then! LOL

And if you know me, my sense of direction –

Well, it leaves a bit to LUCK!

We were sort of guides for family and friends during those 21 years.

Cocerts – festivals and the ROLLING THUNDER motorcycles!

LOOKING TO THE PAST – FUN TIMES!

This was our “FOREVER” home in Brambleton, VA for retirement.

Two-story – 3200 S.F.

Corner lot in a horseshoe shape.

A 440 sf. enclosed courtyard slated patio.

Two-car garage – but that all changed in 2020.

The PANDEMIC hit, and the 401 (k) took major hits!

However, this home increased to the point we just said we need to cash out and move.

WE SOLD –

Stayed with family for two months and moved to North Myrtle Beach.

Still within a day’s car drive back to NVA and family!

This era of our life closed one chapter and began another!

LOOKING TO THE PAST- FUN TIMES!

MOUNT NEBO LUTHERAN CHURCH!

An eight-sided church built in the 1800s by Swedish immigrants –

In Mount Jewett, Pa., where Sherry was raised.

Her family is buried here.

To this day –

On special occasions –

Church services are held here.

The inside is still as it was,

Back in the 1800s.

History – ancestors lead us to her Swedish heritage.

Many memories of childhood growing up in a little town in WPA near the WNY border.

Still friends all these years later.

They are here renting for a year to decide where they want to end up after six years in an RV.

This is one side of my son Shawn’s business-

The other side is auditing for power companies –

State and local governments for the elderly-

Proud of this man for what he is accomplishing!

Winter is here –

But not so bad in the area we live in.

Here – we have mostly blue skies – sunshine-

But still warm coat and scarves weather.

But for the most part –

No snow and ice –

I can live with that as it warms up in the sunshine!

LOL- might just be some truth in this!

Ella, Cassidy, Bode, Maddy, and Taylor.

This was Maddy’s senior year in high school, and Ella was a Sophomore!

For one year, they played together at James Wood High School.

They both went on to college and had successful soccer careers.

Both were named as captains for their teams.

The three younger cousins would go to their games and cheer them on.

Today, Cassidy is a cheerleader – a gymnast –

Taylor is a horse rider, plays the violin, and is trying out for basketball.

Bode plays soccer, flag football, and lacrosse!

But – we survived although very sick.

We see them at least once a year.

We were neighbors in Portville, New York, from the mid-80s to the mid-90s.

Cindy and Buck!

They sold their longtime home and moved to Wilmington, N.C.

Eventually, building homes in Magnoilia Greens, Leland, NC.

We stayed in touch and have traveled the world with them on vacations.

Today, we live about 38 miles from them-

and still get together.

This was taken at OIB FISH COMPANY on the ocean side of the causeway to OIB.

Sherry and I worked with Brian back in Olean at Dal-Tile.

We left in 1999 and transferred to NVA.

The Olean plant closed in 2012, and Brian transferred to the Gettysburg plant.

We have seen them in our area and gotten together with them.

Soon, they will be retired and moving somewhere to a warmer climate.

For almost 80 years –

The dance called “THE SHAG” has been the rage on the Carolina coast.

North Myrtle Beach is the “SHAG CAPITAL” of the world.

How true is this!!!! LOL!!!!!

My life has been full of doing things!

From after H.S. to playing basketball for a radio station!

Playing softball for over ten years-

Then remarried and played co-ed volleyball with my wife.

At one point in my life before remarrying –

I rode a motorcycle for 8 years!

And I even had long curly hair! LOL!

After volleyball, we took up golfing!

And we both attempted to go golfing today!

We have now been married for over 43 years!

We are living out our retirement in OIB- N.C.

In our time together –

We have bought and moved SIX TIMES!

Three of those times, building homes!

Our life together has journeyed from NYS –

To NVA –

And S.C. and now N.C.

We both retired from the same company with a combined service of –

79 years!

FRIENDS! We lived as neighbors to Buck and Cindy at Pleasant Acres Drive-

Outside Portville, N.Y.

We now live 38 miles apart in N.C.

In the forty years we have known them –

We have traveled the world on vacations!

Many adventures –

And to this day, we still get together to golf –

See entertainment-

Dinner -enjoying the company after all those years!

So true in our life together!

They still live in NWPA in the area they grew up in!

Always on my mind!

FAMILY means a lot to us!

For us, it started on 6-25-1982 –

The day we were married.

Time has gone by –

Out to dinner at Inlet View –

Our neighbor Diane and Sherry.

They were in the area looking for a place to do a year’s lease and found it!

Come October, they will move in and see for a year if they like the area.

We were in grade school, Jr. High, and High School together.

Reconnecting after all those years –

Now, playing golf and showing the area we found has become our home.

Great days and Good times are ahead.

LOL – you just have to have a sense of humor to play golf – at least I DO!

In the Fall and Winter –

We have options.

Walking – dressed warm –

Beach or neighborhood.

We left the snow and ice behind.

The sand and surf.

Yes- it can and is chilly.

But we chose this life here in the Carolinas.

He is a ranked pool player who has often played in Las Vegas.

Papa’s World – Summertime fun!

We had a great summer –

family visited –

vacation – trip back to NVA –

Concerts in Sunset Beach-

and Ocean Isle Beach –

Endured a Tropical Storm.

Friends – golf – beaching –

I look around –

and I am amazed that we are here!

I always dreamed it-

but I thought it was out of reach.

We have made new friends –

Old friends have moved close by.

Other old friends come to visit.

We have watched the seasons come and go –

and we know this was the right choice for us.

The health care system for us is excellent.

Shopping – gas and food-

is only a couple miles away –

Yet when you enter our neighborhood –

Tall pines – lush undergrowth –

and yes wildlife exists here also.

We have a beautiful pool and community center –

we volunteer at several venues.

Ocean Isle Beach as seen from the Causeway Bridge spanning the ICW!

We are about four miles from this bridge –

We can come here whenever we want

We walk this beach for shells-

and Sunset Beach as it is more level.

We have open-air concerts at both beaches –

We have made friends here on the island.

We stay in contact each year with my grade school friend Bobby and his wife Pam.

We have visits with them for about a week every year.

LIFELONG BUDDIES!

Our old neighbors back in WNY-

and we now live some 38 miles from them.

We get together often for golf-

or just talking and dinners.

They were all friends back in NVA –

And now all are in either S.C. or N.C.

And close enough to come together –

for lunches and dinners-

or just visit each other!

We have made new friends with Diane and Steve-

who we found out

also, we are from WNY!

They have a cottage on Rushford Lake –

and knew the area we were from!

SMALL WORLD –

and now they are our neighbors here in OIB!

All these years –

and still to this day friends.

We are now all retired –

and still get together every four to six months!

We all now are transplanted from WNY & Pa. to N.C.

Les and I played softball together back in the mid-70s –

They had been on their way back to WNY and stopped at a campground nearby –

We got together for the day and here we are at Holden Beach –

We stopped at one of our favorite places to have ice cream –

THIS WAS GOOD TIMES once again revisited!

The twins were born on their mother’s birthday –

It was “TIME,” the doctor said!

They were so small – today at 13 Taylor is 5’71/2 inches and Cassidy is 5’5″ and gaining!

We have so much to be grateful for – living life to the plus – one day at a time!

Our neighbors who live but three doors from us – in Cameron Woods Community –

Diane and Steve – small world – they also are from WNY and have a vacation house –

On Rushford Lake – a few miles from where we lived –

And frequent Olean, N.Y. all the time as we did when we lived in Portville, N.Y.

New “GOOD TIMES” as new friends!

Bill and Marcea – our neighbors in Cameron Woods Community –

We took them to “FAT HAROLD” the “SHAG” club in North Myrtle Beach –

and they loved it – next time we go we will learn how to dance the “SHAG”!

True – but it seems it is always the last long shot I hit – that keeps bringing me back!

Golfing – we love to be out there in the air – green fairways and nature.

Mostly relaxing but at times frustrating! LOL

One of our many reasons for moving to the borders of N.C. and S.C.!

We both stand against RACISM – one of our core beliefs –

living here – we have seen it –

but – we also have seen the opposite –

giving our time to help others –

that is the way we are!

LOL – yes – this is true for me! But – I am also up to see the sunrise each morning –

I have been this way all my life – living life to the plus one day at a time!

We have so many memories with our friends over the years – we now all live in the South – in N.C.!

We try to get together every three or four months!

Friends since the 70s!

Two of my best friends – going back to the mid-70s and early 80s!

Many times we have gotten together – golfing and just talking!

Fun times!

Here is where we decided to live after searching – we found our “HOME”!

Quiet – five to seven miles of walking –

deer- turkey – and other wildlife –

yet we are close to North Myrtle Beach and Wilmington!

Our oasis in the South!

My son Troy and his partner Andrea – have been here once and will be back!

My son and his wife – Trisha and Shawn – have visited and will be back!

Family means a great deal to us –

one of the joys of our lives –

And FUN TIMES when they visit!

Long ago – Ella – now 20 – Maddy – soon to be 23 and Sarah – soon to be 17 – in our eyes – Priceless memory!

Family time – father and daughter – PRICELESS!

Papa – Ella Maddy ( her boyfriend Kendrick) Sherry – we stopped in Lynchburg, Va. on our way back to OIB to see them and have breakfast.

Both granddaughters are in college there and Maddy will graduate this year.

Fun time even though it was short – granddaughters!!!!!!!

Marcus – Taylor – Tammy and Cassidy – both granddaughters straight “A” s for three semesters in a row!

Cassidy did this besides practicing for six months for the play The Little Mermaid!

Taylor – who loves horses and rides every week and sometimes works in the stalls.

They went out for a treat for the straight “A” s.

Cassidy – Tayor and Bode – grandkids – visiting them in Leesburg, Va.

In the nearly 42 plus years we have been together – we are thankful for all we have! BLESSED!

While living near the nation’s capital – we were at many Nationals games – memories of a World Series – division titles!

Before Bode and when grandkids were young! Taken almost 12 years ago – the twins were not walking then.

After Bode – the twins are now 12 and Bode is 8! Maddy graduates from college and Ella will be a junior in college. Sarah will be a junior in H.S.

Some SENIOR HUMOR – been there done that! LOL Living life to the plus one day at a time!

Papa and MorMor with the grandkids – a few years ago. Bode loves Ella! The memories of times past! PRICELESS!

Granddaughter Ella and Sherry – she is now taller than her grandma!

We came to Lynchburg, Va. for a family get-together and to watch both granddaughters play each other in college soccer.

Maddy is a senior at the University of Lynchburg and Ella is a Sophomore at Randolph College.

Both are starters on their teams.

Maddy is a senior.

Our daughters – Tammy and Debby.

Tammy’s family would join us later in the week – she came down with Debby and her family.

Family fun time.

Sarah and Ella – sisters – Sarah a sophomore in H.S.

It was a fun time exploring Lynchburg – family time together.

Papa’s World – Part two – When you push pause – MEMORIES come alive!

This is part two – when we pause the TV – all of a sudden the screen saver becomes MEMORIES –

Pictures start rolling through of the past and we find ourselves just watching them!

Fourteen years ago – the Myers family.

Today they are grown up – two in college – one in H.S. “MEMORIES”!

Today the Myers family – “MEMORIES” to be made.

Today – college for two – H.S. for the other – camping – hiking – sunrises – sunsets and campfires.

Seven years ago – Christmas past – all six grandkids
Today Christmas present with all six grandchildren.

Time has passed – memories and now new memories.

LOVE THIS!

So many memories – so many great times – so many thoughts – so much love – so much family!

Ten years ago – Tammy and the twins
Eight years ago – the twins
Six years ago – the twins
And now this past Christmas – the twins and Bode.

Past memories – present memories in the making – PUSH PAUSE – and sit back and watch!

Every once in a while – you just have to sit back and see the funny side!

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING

As we prepare to celebrate our NATIONS BIRTH – have a cup of brew –

Take a sip and relax – read the paper or better yet – some funny stuff !

In the eye of the STORM !

Political ” STUFF ” is just that –

sometimes go to the back page and smile

At all the advertisements –

Release your inner self – look at the funnies !

Be creative

See what is in front of you and be creative –

Smile for it could make your day !

Guess he got fooled

Sometimes – you just have to know – you are smarter than them !

Look in the mirror – you own it – make the best of it – and make the change.

One of my hero’s

Don’t fool yourself – it is a waste of time –

Be proud of who you are –

There is only one of you !

No matter what – either one works !

It all comes down to the ” SPACE” between your ears !

You be the judge – you determine –

after all – it’s your mind – it’s owned by you

Your dreams are your escape – your memories are yours –

Think back to your childhood – the good moments –

They belong to only you !

Look at the bright side – at least you have one –

You decide –

But feel good – look positive – emotions play a big part of this !

Surround yourself with TRUE FRIENDS and FAMILY –

They believe in you !

At the end of the Holiday

Take this day and recharge yourself – family – friends –

But always remember – there is a funny side out there –

You just have to look for it !

You just can’t make up this reality into fiction !
