Papa’s World – Sister-in-law takes us for lunch at Fishy-Fishy!

Sherry and I have opposite birthdays – Hers is 7-5-1949 and mine is 5-7-1949!

I think for the past 43-plus years – we are meant to be soul mates!

To celebrate both our birthdays – my sister-in-law Debbie –

drove us to Southport, N.C. for a late lunch at FISY-FISHY on the water –

as a way to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both of us!

A view from the railing of the water and boats docked to eat here!

A look out over the bay toward I think Oak Island or Baldhead Island –

from the railing of FISHY-FISHY!

Debby noticed this sign on it MEADVILLE, PA. where she once lived and also lived in WI.

The restaurant is huge – both inside and outside covered seating.

Covered with signs and neat ornaments like this frog!

We have been here numerous times when strolling the streets of Southport shopping.

It takes us about 45 minutes to get here.

On the waterfront here are maybe six or more places to sit and eat and drink!

They also have my favorite draft beer – RED OAK – which is unique to coastal Carolina in this area.

Not an IPA but is red in color.

If I see it in any eatery – it is my go-to beverage.

A wall of funny signs greets you on one side of the covered outside between the two bars.

A good day of sitting on the water eating “LINNER” –

This is what Sherry and I call the combination of LUNCH and DINNER!

A celebration of birthdays at FISHY-FISHY – thanks to Sherry’s sister – DEBBIE!

Papa’s World – Took the family to Fort Fisher Aquarium.

We have a tight-knit family – and all are in our thoughts and our lives every day.

Debby – Ella and Sherry – an ancient replica of MEGADON!

We had taken them here years ago -and the memories of that long ago the time came back!

Giving them a chance to once again have another memory is what we do – we share with our families those precious memories.

Afterward, we rode the ferry back to Southport where we went to FISHY-FISHY for a late lunch-early dinner.

We showed the waterfront to them – walking around –

What a great way to end our trip – a ferry boat ride both ways

and then food –

SARAH – SHERRY – PAPA – DEBBY – ELLA – Took the family to Fort Fisher Aquarium!

Papa’s World – Shopping and lunch at Southport, N.C.

The boat harbor at Southport – we took the grandkids and parents shopping and then lunch on the water!

Cassidy and Bode and Taylor – on the main street intersection with all the little shops.

Southport is a neat little town – with many side streets with all types of mom-and-pop shops!

The parents loved it as did the grandkids.

Waiting for our table at FISHY-FISH on the water.

The sheriff pulled in for a lunch stop while we were there!

At our table after waiting a few minutes!

Papa – Taylor – Marcus – Cassidy – Tammy – Bode – and MORMOR – family lunchtime!

This is the second time we have eaten on the water in Southport and both times were very good!

PAPA’S WORLD – SHOPPING AND LUNCH ON THE WATERFRONT IN SOUTHPORT, N.C.

Papa’s World – lunch on the waterfront in Southport, N.C.

Sherry and Papa having lunch on the waterfront!

We went to Southport, N.C. before going to Caswell Beach on Oak Island – to meet friends!

We wanted to explore it a little bit more the Southport area!

What we found was the waterfront with all these places to eat and sit and watch the boats go by!

There were a lot of boats going by!

We had the best view while having lunch – and this bay is very wide – a warm breeze – a drink –

living life to the plus in retirement in N.C.

Island in the distance – boat going by.

LUNCH ON THE WATERFRONT – SOUTHPORT, N.C.

Papa’s World – Shopping – walking Southport, N.C.

Southport, N.C. waterfront.

This was the first time – shopping in Southport!

Our neighbors Diane and Steve walk ahead with Sherry.

We came here for the market that was in the town park.

A lot of interesting vendors and local artists.

I bought a watercolor of the Kindred Spirit mailbox on Sunset Beach-Bird Island.

What drew me to this watercolor was the beauty and detail but also it was by a local artist named

V. Ryan Lauzon – who is 94 years old and still painting!

Her daughter showed me a picture of her and she is amazing!

I found this to be interesting – vine on brick building!

Waterfront in Southport where the Cape Fear River flows into the ocean.
Diane and Sherry walking the streets to find consignment shops!
Sherry and Diane are on a corner of streets full of little shops!

I even met the man who started GOLF BALLS for WOUNDED WARRIORS – Bob Duke!

He cleans and packages thousands of donated golf balls –

displays them all over the county – and sells them for $5.00 and $10.00 a dozen –

and every penny goes to WOUNDED WARRIORS!

He has made $100,000.00 of dollars for the nationwide WOUNDED WARRIORS PROGRAM!

Papa’s World – the Tour of BALD HEAD ISLAND comes to an end – FERRY RIDE back to the mainland.

One last lookup close to OLD BALDY LIGHTHOUSE!

Our time to leave is almost upon us – we turned the golf cart in – almost five hours of riding around!

OLD BALDY LIGHTHOUSE just outside the bike and cart rental!

Be sure if you do this – check out what places to eat are open!

On Wednesday – ONLY ONE WAS OPEN!

Also – find a map – we found one at the Ferry Boat Terminal – you will need it!

If more than two of you – I suggest a cart with seats – facing forward – it is hard to see looking back!

The ride on the Ferry boat!

Sit outside if you can – find the sunshine – and watch for the boats!

A COAST GUARD CUTTER!

I had no idea they patrolled these waters here!

And a large CONTAINER CARGO SHIP!

I did not expect to see this – among the many barrier islands here

and between the mainland and Bald Head Island!

Making me wonder if that is why the Coast Guard is here?

And just how deep is this channel here?

PAPA’S WORLD – BALD HEAD ISLAND, N.C.

Papa’s World – exploring Bald Head Island, N.C.

Leaving the Ferry Terminal at Southport, N.C.

Our neighbors – Diane and Steve – went with us for the day to explore Bald Head Island –

the only way to the island is by boat – with a very large terminal building.

No automobiles are allowed on the island.

Once there – you can take a tram to your rental or if an owner to your home.

The transportation is by walking – biking or golf carts!

Rental areas are by the departure terminal on Bald Head Island.

On our way to Bald Head Island, N.C.
Our entered the docking area for the ferry at Bald Head Island
Diane standing next to our transportation for the next five hours.

Rentals are easy – use your phone – pay by credit card – five minutes and we were on our way!

OLD BALDY LIGHTHOUSE
While we did not go inside – it was built in 1817!

The island is all set up for golf carts – but there are maintenance trucks here –

I think different companies store them in a parking lot here.

Plumbing – electrical and building companies.

Utilities and machines for road repairs.

I think this is the small house for the lighthouse keeper!
