Papa’s World – Golfing Leopards Chase – Gold!

Good morning – a cloudy start to our day of golf with friends!

Leopards Chase – Gold course – situated in Ocean Ridge Plantation

Along with THREE other courses – all named after

Big Cats of Prey!

Cindy Sherry Buck on the green – now to select where we are putting from

We have decided to build a house – in the long run –

it will work out the same or cheaper than buying!

The market keeps going up for resales on houses

and we can build and have brand new for the same!

Cindy and Sherry – down the middle is normal for them – Cindy getting yardage to the pin!

And we will build right across the road from this and three other courses

in what is called Cameron Woods!

In fact within a 5 mile radius –

20 golf courses and two beaches

Ocean Isle beach and Sunset beach.

We had searched and searched – condos – houses- apartments

and by chance we found this – and the model –

Sherry once again had her dream home!

And it knocked off about 45 minutes for the drive back to NVA!

Sherry hitting off the middle to the green – water to the left!

All we are waiting for now is the plans to be final

and then a meeting with the construction manager

to go over those plans

and then a start and probable finish date

4 to 6 months start to finish!

By the time you are reading this

we will have already done that!

Buck and me – it was a great time to golf with friends on a very good course – to think there are three more in here and it is a mile from where we will live!
Cindy hitting fro the fairway to the green!

We love this area – the drive to both beaches is less than 15 minutes

Shopping is 6 minutes

Calabash is 15 minutes

and Route 17 is ten minutes.

Our friends house is about 30 to 40 minutes

And a lot of places to dine out on the I.C.W.!

We have extended our stay where we are until the end of June

hoping that the build will be done

We have to buy furniture and move what we have in storage

down here.

Cindy – Buck – Papa – Sherry we are golfing regular now – mostly with our friends – whom we have golfed with for about 30 years!
A lot of the golf cart paths run through the sand – we saw no gators but not sure if they are here or not – but saw signs for snakes!
Cindy and Sherry discussing their next shot as we let a twosome play through – these ladies are serious and hard to tie!

We did not want to go farther South –

we wanted a temperate climate

and still be 7 hours to home!

Bridge to number 18 – the final hole with waterfall!

We have found that place here – among the golf courses and beaches

but still only a 30 minute drive to North Myrtle Beach

which we have become fond of!

Number 18 – Leopards Chase – Gold Course!

Our view for lunch at Barefoot Landing!

I forget the name of the place we stopped for lunch –

but Sherry knows it from recommendations from friends

and our landlord!

It is Mexican – and has the best taco’s!

We have walked by it numerous times –

and she has said we must eat there!

It sits right on the ICW – Inter coastal Waterway!

We requested outside for social distancing!

We wear our masks – we do take them off when we are not around people.

Or – when there is room to stay distances away from them.

The view of the waterway is awesome –

watching the boats – walking the boardwalk

all while sitting at our table after the walk.

Enjoying being outside –

After lunch – we walked – around the area – enjoying the feel of Christmas.

By the time you are reading this – the Holidays have passed –

Papa’s World – enjoying a sunny day at Tanger outlets

A day just shopping and watching – sitting in the sun – drinking a coffee – watching people!

Being retired – when Sherry asks – “Do you want to go shopping”?

I jump up and say “WHEN & WHERE”!

I know I am going to like just waiting and watching people!

Shoes – shorts – shirt – no problems!

We drove about 20 minutes down rte. 17 – to Tanger Outlets!

Every store imaginable – my favorite shoe store – Sketchers!

And a Starbucks – for a sipping coffee!

Who would of known one year ago – I would be sitting outside

in November – sun – warmth – 75 degrees –

Palm trees and Christmas decorations!

Christmas tree decorated among the Palms!

For your information – I love warm weather

I am not a fan of ice – and snow and cold!

I gave my snow shovel away!

Red bows – garlands – lights – and Christmas songs playing – this is my type of holiday!

Someday I would like to share this with our family – holidays in the Sun!

Papa’s World – Cherry Grove – nature walk!

The sign to the entrance of the nature preserve

After a attempt to walk the beach –

the wind was too strong and we opted to try the more

protected walk on the marsh!

The beginning of the trail

Once we got in among the brush and trees

we were somewhat protected from the wind

and the Sun was warm!

Walkway above the marsh and tidal pathways

We could observe the water fowl – the fish and crabs!

The crabs were burying themselves in the bottom mud!

They seemed to know we were there as they quickly buried themselves!

The walk in was on a walkway and then a path through the sand!

We were protected from the blowing wind by the shrubs and trees!
How the tide influences the marsh!

I was ever watchful for snakes and if there were gators?

But – I never saw either one!

There were many signs along the way with information on the area!

Along the way were several covered picnic areas!

Thinking that when family visits –

this would be a good day outing –

first walking the undeveloped beach

and then into the nature reserve and picnic!

Sherry approaching one of the covered picnic areas!

I think this would be a awesome place for a family pcnic!

View of the marsh and channel along with some waterfront houses!

If we had not walked the beach – you would not known –

just how windy it was!

We could see waterfront houses across the channel and marsh!

It was a very nice walk – and we know that there is another nature walk

that we will someday explore!

Papa’s World – a walk on Cherry Grove beach!

If you want a place of solitude –

a place to reflect –

A place untouched –

just water – sand – and sea grass and the head of a marsh

on the Ocean –

Then head to the far end of CHERRY GROVE – S.C.

Sherry at the entrance to the natural beach – Cherry Grove S.C.

We decided since it was a rather cold – 55 degrees –

very windy day – bursts of blasting winds!

We would drive North along our beach road –

to the end of Cherry Grove –

we had seen a covered beach entrance there

and wondered where it led to!

Now – we had no idea – where this path would lead us!

But – it also broke the bursts and gusts of wind!

After walking through the bushes and trees – the entrance to the deserted beach!

We found where the development ended and the natural beach began!

Blowing sand across the beach – dead wood almost covered by sand!

No one was here – and I thought – when it gets warmer –

we need to come back!

Not a soul for miles and miles!

We started out walking – but the wind made it hard!

Sand was blowing across our path and some stinging our eyes!

Sherry pulled her hood up – I had one of those neck things you slide down over your head!

It was so calming – and I thought –

this is what the beach looked like hundreds of years ago!

As far as you could see – no buildings – no people!

In the distance – a waterway to the marsh side bay!

The tide was going out – exposing the flat beach!

But – it was really blowing –

making the walk almost too hard to do!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

A very large tree – 50 plus feet long – washed up on the shore!

We came across a large tree – almost covered with sand –

The ocean had deposited it there.

I wondered just where it came from?

We decided to turn around –

we had walked 2/3 of a mile!

We would come back and explore father.

One for another day!

Thank You!

Papa’s World – Storms – causing the ever changing beach!

Good morning – before we walk the beach!

We have not had a really bad storm since we have been here!

It has rained hard once – the wind was somewhat strong once!

But – there have been storms way out on the Atlantic Ocean –

that have had a impact on the beaches!

You can see the effect of a storm out to Sea!

I have noticed the erosion of the beach –

the gentle slope is now much less

and it seems that the flat part of the beach

now extends further out!

Just the other side of this dune is almost gone – another big storm will most likely wash this away!
This pier looks new but is missing a section at the far end. I do not know when this happened.
Looking back toward the shoreline
Looking out toward the ocean
And along the side toward the missing section

The beach has changed since we first walked on it!

There are large tidal pools now when the tide goes out

that were not there before!

Maybe when we first walked – that was not the normal?

Where did this come from?
Walking the flat beach now – more flat than before!

Storms out to sea – sending the huge waves pounding the shore!

At night and in the predawn

we can hear the surf –

One of the many storm drains from main street – we have seen them dig out with a back hole!
Tidal pools now where before there were none!
Sherry walking the tidal pools.

Papa’s World – BODE – only grandson – birthday – age 6!

Cassidy BODE Taylor

Our daughters gave us five grand daughters –

family dinners were 8 females – 3 males!

And then – along came BODE!

The first grandson in our little family!

BODE

Even when he was too little to walk

I would push him in the stroller

and one time we passed a open garage door

and he became very excited – pointing to a car parked there.

It was a antique Corvette!

He is all boy – trucks – bikes – helmets and no shoes!

Turning six years old – Bode – as he always is – no shoes!

Off he goes outside – no snow – no ice and no shoes!

Riding his bike – playing baseball – chasing his sisters or running away !

He has this thing of bare feet!

Every morning as I drank my cup of coffee –

when we stayed with them before we moved South

Down the stairs he would come

early – 6:00 am.

And “Hello Papa” !

And climb up into my lap as I wrote my blogs!

Mommy – and Bode – mother and son

First boy in the little family.

He and Cassidy are two peas in the pod!

Yet – he loves Taylor – calling her name.

Cassidy is the protective one – always watching over him.

All three together excited – I can not tell who is saying what

if I am not in the same room with them.

I am hoping to have them here – on the beach – in the sand – running – laughing!
Daddy and Bode – going golfing!

For his Christmas – we gave to him – his first little set of golf clubs

a bag – balls and tees.

There is a video of him his daddy took

Hat on backward – ball on a tee in the fairway

stepping up – the ball falls off the tee – he picks it up

places it back and steps up to the ball

His stance perfect and all of a sudden he swings

You hear the club hit the ball – and his daddy laugh

It leaves the tee and sails down the fairway!

“WAY TO GO BODE” his daddy says!

I think we have a soccer player and a golfer!

I am not too old to enjoy what the years will bring!

First grandson – all boy – yet sentimental – caring for his sisters.

One day he will be the one protecting them!

Happy birthday little one – BODE – six years old – first grandson!

Family

As we start the new year – 2021 –

Hoping that this year will be better than the last!

We now are officially in the South!

But – the family is spread now out more than ever!

Troy Papa Sherry Shawn Trisha

My two sons and daughter in law are all back in NWPA.

They run a energy – audit company that contracts with the state.

Very successful and ever growing

Troy runs the crews – Trisha the office –

and Shawn the audits.

This is all done with grants for the elderly

by both the state and the power companies that serve the elderly.

Three sisters – Sherry – Debbie – Bonnie

Sherry has two sisters – one still lives back in NWPA

The other outside Raleigh N.C.

Both are retired as is Sherry who also runs her own

network marketing company from where ever we live.

We are now across Pa. Va. N.C. and a possible Tenn.

The children of the three sisters – cousins – very close – growing up.

Kristy – Nigel – Bethany – Natalia – Nathan – Tammy – Debby – cousins.

The family has grown over the years –

today you see in the first picture that growth.

And now the grand children of the three sisters

As we age – it seems that get together’s get less and less.

Being so spread out and so diverse –

logistics and time make it almost impossible to bring it off!

Debby’s family – Ella Maddy Sarah Mike a number of years ago.
Tammy and family Taylor Bode Cassidy Marcus

2020 has been a tough year – a time of forced seperation

social distancing – less travel – moving away.

It also has brought us together with Zoom calls

text messages and phone calls.

But one thing is for certain –

family always remains strong.

TEAM GENERATIONS – THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!

Papa’s World – Oyster Bay – Golf and “ALLIGATORS”!

Alligator laying in the backyard of someones house! Across the water from the putting green!

Our friends – Jim – Dottie – Buck and Cindy – came for a visit!

And we planned to golf two different days!

The last day was at Oyster Bay – not very far from Calabash

The Seafood capital of the world

and home to many – many “GATORS” on the course!

BIG GATORS!

Jim & Buck

We had a gals vs guys match

and off we went –

I had listened to other players who had finished

talking to the starter about the “GATORS”

and how big they were!

Just laying there almost seemed it was dead until it moved its head!

We saw them a lot – esp. on the middle holes!

The ladies putting behind us – we were able to tell them where the “GATORS” were.

One par three – surrounded by water – except a small walking path

lined with flowers and tall bushes

kind of sketchy walking through there

had a drop zone right next to the green.

And a large sand trap.

Well – right next to the drop zone lay a six foot gator!

Dottie actually hit her ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the drop zone!

Where she left it for some future golfer to find as it ws too close

to that six foot gator!

We had a good time regardless –

you just did not look for golf balls as I think snakes are also here!

Me taking a picture of Jimmy taking a picture of two gators – one to his left and one to his right – the one on the left was very big!
Cindy about to hit from the fairway – they are always in the middle which makes it so hard to beat them!
Sherry lining up her putt – they also are always putting for either birdie or par!
Jimmy hitting his Tee shot. Look close in the middle just between the fairway and trees – his ball going down the middle!
Dottie playing her approach shot two strokes from there for par.
The “GATOR” laying next to the sand trap and drop zone!
They pared this hole!
Beautiful but a lot of “GATORS” in there!
People live here despite the “GATORS”!

We enjoyed this course despite the “GATORS”

being a fun course to play.

Lots of fairways and marsh – small lakes – water everywhere!

Again right down the middle!
My co – pilot – Buck!

Sherry and Cindy – Dottie walked to her ball

And yes – on the course called OYSTER BAY!

With all the “GATORS”!

It came down to the last hole – number 18 !

We had a boggy – long par 5 – missed putt and they pared!

GALS ONE UP AFTER 18

35 to 36!

70 to 71 !!!!!

I told you Jimmy – they are too good!

Papa’s World – In his own words – Jim Martin – how I lost almost 100 lbs.

Jim Martin at 350 lbs.

I first met Jim some years back – his wife Claudia is a close friend of my wife Sherry!

Jim is a very large man – standing 6’5 ” of taller!

He loves to cook and always was making BBQ for his employees!

Claudia was interested in what Sherry was doing for her health.

Then – Jim became interested.

He sent me this email – I had no idea he was writing it.

It is such a story of health and a journey for a individual

who one day said enough is enough!

IN HIS OWN WORDS – JIM MARTIN!

My name is Jim Martin, and I am 65 years old. I live in Reston, Virginia, I still maintain a full-time job.

Heaviest Weight: 350 pounds

Current Weight: 260 pounds

I struggled with my weight my entire adult life. It led to binge eating and weight gain. Before trying Juice Plus, I had done yo-yo diets my whole life. My weight has gone up and down 50 to 80 pounds over the years, but nothing ever stuck.

Before Juice Plus, a typical day consisted of a lack of sleeping of no more that 4 to 5 hours a night and grabbing either a breakfast burrito with an apple juice or a chicken biscuit from a drive thru. I would go to work at my incredibly stressful sales job from 7:30-4:30 and get little to no movement at work. I would always eat out for lunch and pick very unhealthy options—sometimes I would even get dessert (cookies) with lunch!  After work I would come home and eat dinner around 6:30 pm and sit on the couch until it was time for bed. Before bed, I would usually have ice cream or another dessert. Sometimes I would wake up and get a “midnight snack.” I was literally eating around the clock.

The first time I heard about Juice Plus was almost a year ago. I was not into fitness at the time, but back then I thought Juice Plus would help me lose weight and promote a good immune system. However, after years of putting on weight, I started learning more about it and decided I wanted to give it a try and joined the “Shred Your Way” Facebook group.

My turning point came on January 6, 2020 with the “Shred Your Way” Sugar Shred Challenge, No sugar for 10 days.  As a result of completing this challenge, I have completely removed sugar from my diet for the past 11 months. I have no sugar cravings or desire to eat sweets as I did in the past. This all happened two months prior to the COVID lockdown and I was stress eating like crazy. It was a Monday morning and I stepped on the scale that I had been avoiding for months. After I read it, I just said, “That’s enough.” Something had to change.

My goal when I started this journey was to be in better shape than I was when I was 45. Back then, I was 260 pounds and less than 20% bodyfat. From the start of this journey to get healthy, I told myself that I wanted to be in better shape in the next year than I was in the last.

I found that adding Fasting, Healthy eating and Walking to my journey

I loved it so much, I added the Fasting (Zero Fast), Food Monitoring (MyFitnessPal) and Walking (Fitbit) apps to help me stay on track. It has been a huge help in my journey. Tracking the fast, steps, and foods It helps me to see trends, and with that I can make adjustments.  I love being able to look back and see how I have done. The Shred Your Way Facebook group has also been a great source of motivation.

I currently follow a 16:8 fasting schedule, walking 8 to 10 miles a day, and eating about 1500 to 1800 calories a day, while trying to keep it flexible. Most days I end up following 17:7 Fasting, 25,000 steps and 1600 calories. I change my fasting times to suit my lifestyle. If I want to go out and have a big dinner with my wife, I will just do a longer fast leading up to it, so I stay in a deficit. And some days when I am hungry, I will break my fast at 13-14 hours (minimum of 13 hours to be considered fasting). I listen to my body and hunger signals. That is what I love about intermittent fasting—it is all about flexibility.

The first few mornings I started fasting I was so hungry, but honestly by the second week my body had adapted well. That is part of the reason I have been able to do this so long (coming up on 7 months). It is not a struggle for me to follow the plan.

Aside from the weight loss, fasting gives me freedom from food, walking gives me the movement I need and Juice Plus give me a healthy immune system. I no longer feel like food is my source of comfort. I can focus my thoughts and feelings more. I also did change my overall diet. I discovered tons of extremely healthy choices. However, that is another writing exercise.

Here is what I typically eat in a day:

Breakfast: Black coffee, breakfast cereal (Ezekiel or Sola brands, no/exceptionally low sugar) blueberries, raspberries, almond milk, and chia seeds.

Lunch: Arnold whole wheat bread or a Mission brand low carb whole wheat wrap, turkey or ham, mustard, lettuce., tomato and Kettle Brand avocado and Himalaya salt potato chips.

Dinner: Taco Bowl (steak, brown rice, pinto beans, salsa, cheese,) Kevin Brand Chicken entrees with steam veggies.

Snacks: Mixed nuts or, protein shake (1G or less sugar) or apple or protein bar (2G or less sugar)

Dessert: 1oz70% Dark Chocolate

I feel completely different now that I added fasting and walking to my Juice Plus daily routine.  I no longer have a need to eat wasteful and harmful foods like sugar. Before, I would always eat a huge lunch and then be worthless for hours afterwards. Now, I experience the mental clarity that comes from eating the right foods, fasting, and walking. I am tracking all my calories in MyFitnessPal because I wanted to stay in a deficit, which was key for weight loss. I aim to eat 1,800 calories each day. I walk 7 days a week. It has been great.

These three changes contributed the most to my weight loss success.

Change 1: I gave myself more than a year to reach my goal.

By taking a longer-view approach, I do not get discouraged by little missteps. I still have plenty of time to reach my goal. When you set a short timeframe to reach your goal, you can get discouraged if it does not happen “fast” enough.

Change 2: I focused on healthy eating at first.
I’ve done diets before, and when you change everything in the first week, you drain yourself of willpower and end up falling off the wagon.  I just focused on finding healthy food choices that minimize or eliminate SUGAR. SUGAR is the killer of any plan that includes weight loss or a good immune system.

Change 3: I do not get discourage… focus on the big picture

Life happens, and if I get down on myself for being human, that is not going to help me in the future. So instead, I give myself grace and understand this will happen. I acknowledge it and move on instead of making myself feel like a failure.   I could barely walk a mile without resting, now I can complete a 10K in less that two hours. It takes one step at a time.

I hope my successful journey can help other archive the life changing experience this has been for me.   I think the most rewarding part about making this change has been the mental clarity and focus that comes in the last few hours before breaking a fast. I do not feel mentally drained. But the weight loss has made the biggest difference. It is going to allow me to live an active life well into old age. If I had continued putting on weight, I would have been in extremely poor health within the next five years. But now I feel strong, and I do not feel deprived.

The new Jim Martin – at 260 lbs.

As a side note – Claudia Martin has literally folllowed in Jim’s footsteps.

She now walks with him and has lost 55 lbs. !

Papa’s World – A cool walk on the beach – 3.6 miles

Entrance to the beach

We took our wind breakers – it started off cool!

But – soon they came off and wrapped around our waists.

” It was a cool day” – the song running through my head!

It was one of those days where we just walked and walked!

Sherry – looking at the reflection on the water

You – know – some days are better than others –

Some days you just get lost in your thoughts –

The soothing sound of the surf –

The birds – the warm Sun –

SOME DAYS ARE GOOD DAYS!

When you live one day at a time –

you reflect back on each of them.

What is the meaning of that day?

Moving forward – one step at a time.

The wonder of nature – the stillness of your mind –

Thinking – wondering and appreciating each moment in time.

Walking – walking – walking

The shells lay crushed beneath your steps

The sky is changing

life is moving on with each step you take.

My glasses are tinted – the reflection is a reflection of time passing

No words – just thoughts – memories flashing by –

Your mind reflecting back what you see.

The upen air – the smell of the sea –

the noise of life continuing on as it has for eons.

Your look at life – your events unfolding as you walk.

You gaze forward realizing you have waled a long ways!
The end of the beach walk – WOW! 3.6 miles – just like that!

Without thinking – without knowing the distance as it past by you –

You have walked and walked – 3.6 miles!

Life is certainly good when all it takes is time – thoughts and memories –

It happens like that –

” ON A COOL DAY” as the song goes –

and maybe four years later when we moved next door to Cindy!

I mean this was it! Around that time! LOL!

We decided to all get together – after practicing social distancing –

No exposure to Covid -19 –

and they would all stay with us at our new residence

in the condo we were renting!

Cindy Jim Buck Dottie Sherry & Papa

The plan was cards – golf – a few drinks and eat out!

Now – I did do this when I was young – but that was a long time ago – not ever getting on something that has wheels beneath my feet again!

We made tee times twice at different courses.

And – once again it would be a scramble

guys vs gals and handicapped!

After golf – a dinner at Local on the Water

alongside the ICW in North Myrtle Beach!

Results of day one golf – guys by one stroke!

Of course we have fun – play ground swings and all!

The TREE MUSKETEERS!

This was on Saturday – after golfing The Valley at Eastport

in North Myrtle Beach!

Sunday was not a day of rest – for we had a game to watch!

The BUFFALO BILLS!

We would go to Barefoot Landing –

to WILD WINGS – and they put the game on two TV’S

so we could watch from both sides of the table!

Of couse – we watched the whole game and three of the employees

were from the little town we lived in – Portville N.Y. !

It is indeed a small world!

We walked the beach every day – showing them the gated community

and then main street of North Myrtle Beach!

They even beat us on the swings – 2 to 1!

Then it was the dawning of the third day –

our final golf contest at Oyster Bay!

One couple would leave after dinner

the other in the morning

final score – gals by one after the handicap!

IT’S CHRISTMAS WHEN FRIENDS VISIT!

MY SITE: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa’s World – Counting our blessings – a year in review – family – friends!

Christmas 2019 – the start of the year in review!

All the grand kids and their parents with Sherry and myself.

When this picture was taken – the only thing we had planned

was for her 16th. birthday – we would take Ella to Florida with us for a week.

She would go to Hollywood studios to see Star Wars!

When each grand child turns 16 – we do something special with them.

Maddy wanted to swim with the Manatee’s and we did that!

Growing up in the ’60’s – we never imagined taking trips with grandparents – mine were all gone by the time I was 16!

As the year progressed – plans were made and soon – we would leave for one month in Florida.

But first – quality time with the young ones.

I will for the rest of life see this as MORMOR and Taylor – walking hand in hand to church!

Although now she is only ten years old – she comes up to just under Sherry’s chin.

She is going to be very tall and loves horse back riding!

2019 was also the year we had friends from AZ. come to visit – and accomplished crossing off everything on their bucket list to see in DC. This is a reflection of Sherry among the ghosts of the Korean War.

Many friends visited over the 21 years we lived outside D.C.

We acted as tour guides – and in the year past – we toured almost every facility

there was to visit including the Capital Building which was a first for us!

The year in review – blessings will continue in the next blog!

We also venture to outside Raleigh – N.C. to visit her sister.

Here – we went to a farm that had what are called BELTED COWS – GOATS & CHICKENS!

They are white with a black belt around the middle!

Never heard of this and never saw this before!

Standing outside the pen with the goats – chickens and cows at the BELTED FARM!

A YEAR IN REVIEW WITH BLESSINGS WILL CONTINUE IN THE NEXT BLOG!

Imagine – meeting old friends – memories – laughter and good times! review blessings

There are times in you r life this happens – but there are times in your life that this is a cherished memory!

We are blessed – we have a lot of friends – some older than the others –

And when you managed to meet up –

That makes a memory that you look back on and smile!

PAPA & SHERRY

During our trip to Florida last Feb. we made a date to meet up with a couple of the oldest friends I have.

Freddie and Lynda and I go back to the ’70’s –

Fred and I graduated together so I guess that puts us back to the ’60’s!

Freddie Sherry Lynda

When I introduced Sherry to them – they hit it off and you can tell

they still do!

Fred was one of my three best friends in H.S.

CAN YOU IMAGINE – all these years and still laughing

even if years go by and not seeing each other!

Music is top of the list with these friends – singing – tipping a few drinks – and shots! LOL

We have a core group of friends – those that we try to get together with several times a year.

We all lived near each other before we all moved South.

Except Mike and Carol who still live in the old hood!

Cindy – Buck – Dottie – Mike – Sherry – Carol – Jim

Mike and Carol bought a house on the lake Chatauqua in Western New York

and invited us all for a long weekend.

They have extended the invitation once again for next Summer!

Boating – boating and more boating in their beautiful new boat

that fits all of us plus room to spare!

Cindy PAPA Sherry

Old friends – new memories – fun – laugh – CAN YOU IMAGINE!

Sherry PAPA Pam ( PJ) Bob

Bob is one of my three best friends from H.S. – he stayed at my house and me at his.

He ate dinner with us and I ate dinner with him.

We played sports together – and then – lost contact as he moved to N.H.

Later in life he remarried and we connected once more.

Now Sherry and Pam talk on the phone and we make plans of meeting up!

Which before we came South- we met up in Berkley Springs.

Pam had a misstep and injured her achilles

causing her to have surgery

So as right now – we do not know when we shall once again see them.

But friendships exist through time and miles – memories created –

CAN YOU IMAGINE!

Papa Sherry Elaine Steve

We played volleyball in a league with them during the mid ’80’s!

We golfed with them all the time!

We watched their children grow up and they ours!

We went on vacations to North Myrtle Beach together!

And they are alwys in our minds – planning to get together.

They were the first to come to D.C. to explore!

CAN YOU IMAGINE!

These are our oldest friends – we have made new friends – life is memories made and memories to be made!

Papa’s World – hiking the trail with the Myers family – grand daughters!

Debby Sarah Sherry Maddy Papa Mike Ella

I love this picture – I told Sherry we need to get it blown up and framed!

And – it all happened in a space of two or thee minutes!

Maddy took her phone – while we all just sort of found a place –

put it up and braced it on a tree limb –

set the timer for 6 seconds and “BOOM”

there it was!

We went back to the new trail – but this time – the whole family went!

This family hikes all the time – that is their form of family time together!

Mike will take the older two – Maddy and Ella – overnight hiking!

He would take Sarah – but she is into more like N.Y.City hiking!

Sarah – but she is the adventure type – always climbing – swinging from vines – exploring woods and meadows.

She is the one I think really likes it but has aspirations of one day dancing – acting – fashion –

But once you do get her out there – no boundry is off limits – being the free spirit she is!

Ella – come on – follow me!
Ella is 5 ‘ 8 1/2 ” Sarah who just turned 14 – I think will be taller – both taking after their grand mother Sherry – who is 5’ 9″

We made it a family day hiking – where Debby – Sherry and I had gone the day before!

A new trail within the city limits of Winchester Va.

When it is completed – with all the side trails and loops

you pretty much can get a easy five miles in!

YEP! there are also pastures and cows!
Walking the trail – Ella Maddy Sarah Mike Papa the trail is made of crushed limestone the whole way! Easy to walk on and not trip!

This day was somewhat cool but warm in the Sun!

And we made a day of it as long as we could.

Many volunteers keep this project going

helping to clear out brush

and maintaining the cut area’s!

There is a farm silo – which you can walk into – and look up and see this. A hand crank on the wall – makes these turn in opposite directions – providing the look of birds soaring in the clouds!
A old farm tractor just sitting there offering a photo opportunity!

A DAY HIKING THE TRAIL WITH THE MYERS FAMILY!

Hiking with oldest daughter – on the trail with Debby!

The grand daughters were in school – Maddy had to go to work –

So Sherry and I went with Debby to run some errands

and then to go on a hike!

A new trail had opened over Thanksgiving –

in Winchester Va. !

Debby Sherry Papa

Sherry and I did 2.20 miles with Debby –

and then she ran back the way we had just walked

we continued on and met here in the parking lot!

She runs every day!

She does start her day off with one cup of black coffee!

Debby is a QNMD with the Juice Plus Company

following in her mother’s footsteps

health and nutrition are a big part of her families lives!

The trail has many features such as this sundial which is not finished yet!
There are many sculptures along the way.

The trail itself is made of crushed limestone and very easy to walk on.

There are gradual hills and trees – shrubs – and open fields.

Many nature groups who are volunteers –

clear out under brush and fallen trees!

winding trail so as not to walk straight up the hill!
Sundial not completed yet!

We are going to bring the rest of the family back for a hike!

The night before we came back home to N.VA. – we drove 45 minutes South

Near Pawley’s Island S.C

to “BROOK GREEN”!

( and we will go back in warmer weather – to see it again in daylight!)

Huge Oak trees – with hanging lights – almost from the top!
Reflections in the water of lights!

The whole place – hundreds of acres – is dressed up in colored themes –

and over 1000 candles lit by hand!

Bronze statues are everywhere!

Some of the 1000 candles lit by hand!
Candles and lights – everywhere we went – a different theme – and colorful lights!
There were food trucks and a tent set up with drinks – hot chocolate – coffee and tea as well as water – soft drinks and beer!
So many different areas lit up – hard to capture them all!
You had to stay on the paths – and after dark – you could easily get lost in the maze of light!
Hanging moss lit up!
Paper lanterns lit in red and white colors!
Like fire flies in the sunset!
Sculptures with light reflecting on the water!

There must be a lot of volunteers to do all of this!

And – we only saw part of the park –

there also is a zoo here but was closed!

Papa’s World – making memories – cookies – with the oldest grand daughters!

First you gather the ingredients – then you gather the grand daughters and their mother!
Mother ( Debby) Ella Sarah Sherry ( grand ma) Maddy

Memories are made each year during the holidays –

making Christmas cookies is one of them!

Sherry has done this for years – and they all love it!

They laugh and laugh at her and with her!
The results – or a small fraction of the results – all decorated by each of the grand daughters!

She teaches them her heritage and is passed down generation to generation.

Sherry is Swedish – her grand mother was born in Sweden.

She is 5 ‘ 9″ tall – and Ella is almost as tall – Sarah will be that also and Taylor at 10 years old

comes up to her chin!

The temptations are there – YUMMY!
She is a educator – teaching them to be themselves – honor – compassion and self worth!

Respect is what they have for her.

Admiration – and laughing – both at her and with her.

Going shopping with Grandma!

MEMORIES for a lifetime!

Ella Sarah Sherry

We will come up once more and spend a couple days and Christmas eve.

Then we will go back to Tammy’s for Christmas day!

The little ones are so excited and she made cookies with them also!

To them she is not grand ma – but MORMOR – mother’s mother in Swedish!

After Christmas we will once again head back to S.C.

Knowing that Memories were once again made

and captured into this blog

for future reading – seeing !

But that is another blog in the works!

Papa’s World – Grand ma’s day out with Daughter and Grand Daughters!

Maddy 20 Ella 17 Sherry ?? Sarah 14

Sherry – who stands 5′ 9″ with our three oldest grand daughters!

Now – Maddy is 5 ‘ 6 ” Ella is pretty close to Sherry and Sarah is 5’ 6 or 7″

Sarah has started to get taller like Ella did – and I think will be taller than Sherry!

Plus – one of the twins – Taylor – well she is 10 and comes up to just under Sherry’s chin!

Must be the SWEDISH heritage coming out!

Debby – our oldest daughter – and her three girls

They all went into town to get their ears pierced again!

All except Debby!

Every time she is with them – laughter prevails!

She showed them how when you put our car on cruise control

The radar activates – and the car will almost steer itself!

She took her hands off and it went around two slight bends in the road

They were amazed and then all burst out laughing

as a message came across the screen in the car

“PUT YOUR HANDS BACK ON THE STEERING WHEEL”!

About to get their ears pierced!

A trip with grandma – “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GRANDMA – IS YOU !” says Sarah!

Well maybe a few other things! LOL

Our plan is to spend three days with them – and then head back to Tammy’s

as they have school and jobs.

Then we will all spend Christmas day together at Tammy’s

at least that is the plan now and could change during these trying times.

Ella and Maddy – Ella may be playing soccer against her next year in college! She has to select between two colleges.

Tis the season! We are back home in NVA!

And Sherry and the little ones are baking cookies!

Bode – Taylor – Cassidy – made these Ginger – Bread houses out of POP TARTS!

They followed Sherry’s instructions –

Then it was time to bake cookies!

Bode – Taylor – Cassidy – followed MORMOR’S instructions – and each decorated their own.

They each rolled out the cookie dough –

and each one cut out the cookies.

They then decorated the ones they made!

They love baking with their MorMor – in Swedish – mother’s mother!

And – as she does every year and their favorite

CHEX MIX!

All the grand kids love this when she makes it!

We are spending three weeks back and forth between the two daughters houses.

Papa’s World – Once in a BLUE MOON!

Our little grand daughter Cassidy

texted a message-

” I think it is so COOL that you and Papa are going to the beach –

to take pictures of the full MOON”!

Sherry said did you forget you told her that?

Well – I did – and she did not forget it!

So – off we went in the dark – into the car –

and drove the half mile to the beach entrance!

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

We made our way along the walk way to the sand

and I captured the moon

on a very dark night

I could hardly see the other people who

had made their way to the beach

to do the same thing!

The only light we had was the street light!

We could hear the surf but could not really see it!

Then the full moon lit up the ocean

and the crashing waves on the sandy beach!

This once in your life event of a blue moon on the beach

was worth the effort to bundle up

and hit the beach in the dark.

My little grand daughter –

“THAT IS COOL”!

And then it was back home

to go out on the Lanai

and snap a picture of the Full Blue Moon

coming up over the small lake of Ocean Keyes!

Papa’s World – Walking the streets to beach golf cart parking lot!

The view back toward the community of Ocean Keyes where our leased Condo is.

We have two ways to do our WALK each day.

First – we can take the car – with our chairs and beach stuff

Drive the half mile to the parking lot access.

Where it costs $2.00 a hour to park.

Or – we can walk with or with out the chairs and beach stuff.

The beach and Ocean are just beyond the horizon

This day we decided to walk – leave the chairs and beach stuff behind

and walk the streets – explore a little more

and cross the main street to another beach access.

We walked about a mile North on a side road and then crossed the main street to a beach access we had never been to before

The walk took us along a less traveled street that runs

along side the main street.

Then after 15 minutes of walking we turned toward the Ocean.

And to our surprise –

this parking lot was restricted to GOLF CARTS ONLY!

Seems like there are hundreds of golf carts here.

You are allowed to drive them on any street

that has a speed limit of 35 MPH and under.

You are allowed to cross the streets

that are above that 35 MPH and I assume at red lights only.

Except at the beach access parking lots.

The parking lot – this one did not have bathrooms

or a place to wash the sand off your feet.

We try to find the ones that have both.

Rather than sit inside – we walk – explore –

drive to other areas

and enjoy our new found area.

Usually after dark we watch Netflix for a hour or so.

And once again walking back another route

upon arriving back at the gate to our community

we are greeted with the new Whie Swans and the ducks and Mallards.

Papa’s World – When Swans come for a visit!

I saw a child in a stroller – sitting and gazing

Her mother had stopped

and they were watching the White Swans

as we drove our car through the gate

of the beach side entrance.

You can see the Swans – Mallards and in the top right corner – the wheel of the stroller

We talked to the mother as that child gazed entranced

sitting motionless

watching the graceful three Swans

Suddenly a big Mallard came too close to one of the females

The Big male Swan rose up and beat its wings as its

head and neck came quickly forward toward the Mallard.

The baby never flinched – just watched in awe as the Mallard

turned and swan away.

The big male watching over the other two

The mother somehow knew how the Swans just appeared overnight!

She said the state runs a wildlife management program

Where Swans are placed into a enviroment

conducive to their lives.

This is what happened here

They were placed and now they cruise from one end to the other

One half mile in one direction.

Here they are just outside our top floor Lanai

Our condo sits in the opposite direction of where we saw the mother.

I have seen them going back and forth all day long.

People are watching them paddle about –

some are feeding them bread

Sherry looked it up and it said this was okay

it was better if it were a bit soggy

also lettuce leaves

They graze the pond bottoms near the shore lines.

I have watched them swim toward this fountain

and all of a sudden they start flapping their huge wings

and a very loud noise erupts as they tread water

and take off in flight

never going much higher than 10 or 15 feet

above the water – to gracefully cruise into the

bay where we saw the mother and child.

For now they are here

I hope they remain

I hope they mate and hatch little ones

just as the little child gazed at their graceful

floating in the water.

I can imagine a line of little ones following these three.

Papa’s World – Afternoons on the beach!

Looking North on North Myrtle Beach toward Cherry Grove.

Almost every afternoon – we take our two chairs

my BOSE radio speaker –

Pandora on my phone for easy listening

and a couple drinks

then we sit – walk – read and watch the Ocean and hear the waves.

This part of our dream vagabond life

coming true –

living life – walking healthy – moving –

observing – listening –

“HOTEL CALIFORNIA” in the background.

I have my GILLIGAN hat on –

to keep my protection against those sun rays.

I wear a shirt for the same.

Sometimes I have a single beer –

most times it is water.

We walk the tidal pools

the water feels warm

fishermen are always on the beach and in the surf

Down here by the shore –

the clouds and blue sky are beautiful

The sand is not hot to the feet

and is like soft powder

IMAGINE ALL THE PEOPLE!

Mostly older folks here

but you do see the young ones braving the water

We generally stay for two hours

leaving between 5:00 and 5:30 PM.

On our next bucket list of things to do

and in a few days will become a reality

Is to come down to the beach at FULL MOON!

We are almost there now!

Afternoons on the beach

listening to easy rock

reading – doing some network marketing

dreaming – making dreams come true.

Peace – quiet – surf – warmth from the sun

Papa’s World – Early morning – then Lunch at Walhburgers

Early morning – breaking of dawn.

OUR VIEW EACH MORNING

from the top floor – on our lanai – condo!

We selected this condo purely by accident!

I had been searching for furnished places to lease

in Brunswick County – N.C.

when on the site – Zillow – I saw a place that said

EXPAND BOUNDARIES

And when I expanded the boundaries – this came up!

Every morning with clear skies we see this!

By accident I found this condo for lease

and we jumped on it right away.

At first for two months – then three months.

Finally we expanded it to FIVE MONTHS

before we even packed to come down!

And the bonus for all of this –

is one half mile walk – we are standing here on the beach!

We are in Ocean Keyes –

North Myrtle Beach

and had no idea this existed or that we would be here!

A number of years ago – we took a vacation to tour New England states

Mass. N.H. and Me.

Flying into Boston and renting a car with our friends the McBrides.

Our first Air bnb was in Dorchester Mass.

Home to the famous family THE WALHBURGS!

They had recently been on TV and we watched how they opened their store

You know them through New Kids On The Block

and movies and TV shows.

Well – we wanted yo try out their restaurant

But – a very bad storm of lightening – wind and down pouring rain

came through and it was getting dark

hard to see – so we bailed on it!

For a number of years – we regretted not going!

Then – while we were at Barefoot Landing

we came across this WALHBURGER’S!

What we missed out on back in Dorchester Mass.

We stumbled across here in Myrtle Beach S.C.

and of course we went in and had lunch.

Sherry had the impossible burger

and I had the salad with the burger on top!

We left saying we will come back – good service – good burgers

and a chance to redeem ourselves in not going sooner!

Papa’s World – Sunset Beach – Ocean Isles Beach – morning walk!

Good day – our mornings start off like this!

It has only rained one time in the 25 days

we have been here!

We DO NOT watch the NEWS!

But I do get on the scale every day!

We decided to take a little trip

as two beaches were not that far away!

The first was SUNSET BEACH – NC.

And here we are driving over the causeway!

Looking North on Sunset Beach
Looking South on Sunset Beach

This beach a few years ago –

was voted one of the top beaches in the country.

And – judging by the number of people here

in the off season – I can see why.

This entrance had bathrooms – water to wash off

and looked really inviting.

Selfie at SUNSET BEACH!

But since this was a day trip

we only stopped to check it out

parking in the Summer might be a problem as well as traffic!

Time to reflect – time to look around – our dream is real!

On to our next beach destination

OCEAN ISLES BEACH N.C.

This area is a target of where we might end up!

It is only 40 minutes to our friends house in Magnolia Greens

and right in the heart of so many fine golf courses!

Plus in 30 minutes or less

we are right back in North Myrtle Beach!

Over the causeway to Ocean Isles Beach

largely a residential beach

buy what you want BEFORE you cross the causeway!

But – I like this area better than Sunset Beach!

Looking North along the beach

no where as crowded in the off season as Sunset Beach!

Looking South along the beach

and the sand is not hot on your feet!

There might also be a problem in parking as I noticed few lots

but parking was encouraged to park off the road

but alongside of the road.

Public access was plentiful but not as nice as

Sunset beach – just paths between houses.

A cup of coffee – sitting on the beach

we will return here as it is peaceful

no high buildings

Bathrooms might be a problem!

Our early morning walk on North Myrtle Beach!

If we could find a place here – we would.

It is that nice.

We continue to look –

Rising early to see the sun

And then the beginning of our three mile walk on the beach

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

Someday soon we will make a moonlit visit to the beach!

Papa’s World – we found another place to eat- “SNOOKY’S”

Snooky’s you have to search to find it but worth it!

We learned of this place from a friend of Sherry’s

who lives down here.

And it is hidden behind a huge storage warehouse for boats!

And sits on the ICW!

Watching them load and unload the boats onto or off racks stacked high in the warehouse!

Even with directions on the GPS

we were not sure where to park.

The spaces in front are handicap only!

You can not park to the right facing the warehouse

this is parking for the Marina and boat rentals’

You must come down the left side of the warehouse

and pull in at a angle( note – best to back in – so you can pull out)

This is a harbor for boats and the ICW!

The place itself is a local favorite and we later learned

by Cherry Point – there is a second one!

If you like raw oysters or rocking seafood

this is the place to go plus they serve brakfast

almost all day.

I had the SEAFOOD OMELET!

And it was very good!

You could also rent boats here –

and they were very friendly!

The parking fills up fast –

so plan your trip here

and if it is full –

well you can wait for parking!

one final beach day it was!

The sun was warm – the air chilly and the water was warm.

We all wore extra clothing as the low 60’s became the norm for the day.

Wearing the mask was more for warmth than protection!

If the wind did not blow – it was okay.

We had the warm coffee – money – still waiting on it!

We did manage a few cool hours

but like the saying goes

A bad day at the beach is better than the best day wherever! LOL

Papa’s World – Jennie and Gerhard – morning walk

As the sun rises – breakfast and then a walk

Jennie and Gerhard – parents of our son in law Marcus.

We started the day with a sun rise and breakfast

and then set out to walk

we usually do 2 3/4 to 3 miles every day!

Walking the beach

We chose this condo for the view it offered

and being a 1/2 mile walk to get on the beach

where we walk 1 1/2 miles before heading back.

Fishermen – up and down the beach

There is hardly any one on the beach in the mornings.

Fishermen – joggers and walkers like us!

It makes for a pleasant walk

and not worrying about social distancing!

For the most part – in the open beach air

we do not wear our masks

unless we come across a whole bunch of people!

Then you try to walk around them at a distance!

Jenny looking for shells!

Walking in the surf – the water was warm

Quiet time – feeling the water and listening to the waves.

The beach here is very wide and firm

not many large shells and have seen no sand crabs!

Papa’s World – Jennie and Gerhard – Locals On The Water

Our son in laws parents Jennie and Gerhard

We started our day sitting on the lanai at our condo.

The plan was to go to lunch – at a place we found called

Local On The Water!

We had discovered it with a prior visit with her sister.

Local on the water

We would have lunch while watching the boats

on the ICW!

ICW

After lunch the plan was to go back to the condo

gather together our chairs

drinks and sun tan lotion

and head out for the beach!

Where for a couple of hours

we would watch LOCALS ON THE WATER!

Just a great lunch – talking and then listening to the surf!

The tide had gone out – the weather was warm

and also the water was warm.

Jennie testing the warm water

This part of the beach at low tide is very wide.

What was nice is it is not very crowded!

Gerhard wading – he does not like to be out in the sun!

After a fine afternoon of watching

LOCALS ON THE WATER

And a great lunch watching boats on the ICW

at LOCAL ON THE WATER

We managed to combine a morning sunrise on the lanai

lunch and then beach time

into a memorable day!

Papa’s World – on the beach Jennie and Gerhard

Papa Gerhard Jennie

Our son in laws parents came to visit us!

And – they love the beach – well Jennie does! LOL

First they saw the breaking of day from the lanai!
As the sky lightened up – you can still see I think Mars!
Then the SUNRISE as we sipped coffee – it would be a fine beach day!

We talked and talked and finally drove down the 1/2 mile and parked

we did not want to carry all the chairs and coolers

Gerhard walking the beach
Jennie – who loves the beach – mesmerized by the waves.

We spent a couple hours – sitting – walking – sipping some drinks

The weather was warm – 78 degrees – the water 75 degrees!

Papa’s World – Flowers of Barefoot landing – S.C.

One of our places we like to wander about

in North Myrtle Beach S.C.

Is a place called Barefoot Landing

full of shops – boardwalks – small lakes –

places to eat – drinks to be had

music – outdoor activities

and FLOWERS!

Everything in mid October is blooming!
The colors are just beautiful!

It takes me back to my childhood – Spring – Summer

in NWPA!

Mild climate then and flowers blooming!

Flowering bush – and potted trees!

Barefoot Landing? Well almost – sitting enjoying the sights and sounds!

Sherry – mid October and the decorations are out!

This tine of year I have always favored

crisp air – decorations – Fall is here!

But the beauty of Summer remains!
Fall decorations from Summer past
The noise of a water fountain – solitude of quiet thinking!
The beauty of Sun flowers – hay and pumpkins!
Reds – greens fading to yellow

While walking around while the ladies shopped

I could not help but snap some pictures

we loved flowers at our house

each year they would come back

colors of Spring into Summer and Fall

Paps’ World – Local on the Water – great views & Reviews!

Sherry and her sister searched the internet

for a place to eat lunch with a view.

And – just a couple miles away

they found LOCAL ON THE WATER!

The front of the building
A view of the side of the building with another outside bar.
And one of the reasons we selected – the VIEW!
And the second reason – four star menu!

We did not know this existed so close to where we are living!

It is only 11 streets away on the inter coastal waterway.

We wanted a view and we got one!

We asked to be seated as far away from the main area and still have a view!

Sherry – watching the boat traffic on the ICW!

Now – this place was very large – multiple levels and rooms

I saw two stages for music and four different bars.

Our seats were by ourselves for the most part.

The lunch crowd had just begun.

Several unique area’s for their late night action!

I asked how busy they were and she replied

on the weekend very busy at night.

So – so during the week

but lunch was popular and the place big enough

to allow social distancing!

Many areas for entertainment
Sherry and her sister Debbie

We ended up with a very good lunch

we all had different salads

I had the AHI TUNA!

Debbie the Cobb and Sherry the Pear!

Papa’s World – golfing at Sandpiper Bay – dinner at Clark’s!

Buck ready to tee it off!

Our friends – Cindy and Buck

live about 40 miles from where we are staying.

And – for 25 years or so

have been coming to this area to play golf.

Buck told me he has played

on 85 different courses here in that time!

Cindy ripping a shot down the middle
Sherry hitting her second shot down the middle

We play a game every time we golf together

recently it has been guys vs girls!

And – I say no strokes

because it always ends up 1 or 2 strokes either way.

They both are always in the middle!

Buck goes first and depending where he goes – is what I do next.
With me – I never know – left – middle or right

Try as I might – it is a guess where I end up.

But – we always have fun – chirping back and forth Cindy and I!

I say NO STROKES – she says YES STROKES!

Last two times out – they have beaten us by 3 and then 2 strokes!

On the first one we gave strokes ( 3)

and the second time here – zero strokes.

They are just too good and never in trouble.

Always in the middle on every shot!

Down the middle!
Ended up on the green!

In a few weeks – our other friends will be joining us

and we once again will play girls vs. the guys.

The Browns – the McBrides and us.

Buck and Cindy at dinner at Clark’s

After golf at Sandpiper Bay – we met Sherry’s sister Debby

who drove down to spend 4 or 5 days with us.

We had dinner sitting outside by the marina

A view of the boats
Harbor dining

We had a excellent dinner

recapping stories since it has been a while since they have seen her sister.

Sherry Papa Buck Cindy Debby

It was the perfect end to a great day!

We lost – they won –

and until we play again

I always enjoy this – NO STROKES – laughing!

Papa’s World – views from the lanai – beach walking

As I was searching for a place to rent

until we decided where to live and what to buy or rent

This view caught my eye!

And I thought – this is where we should stay

and relax and think on what we want to do!

It brought forth in my mind – POSITIVE THOUGHTS!

It was as though I found a quiet place to think

a place to do research and enjoy the view!

The sound from all six fountains travel the 1/2 mile distance

down the lake to our lanai on the top floor!

At night they are all lit up!

Quiet thoughts – pleasant memories – listening and watching

seeing the water fowl on the lake

and then being able to walk the 1/2 mile to the beach entrance!

We had always dreamed of being near a beach.

Many vacations have been spent like this.

And always regretting when we had to pack up and leave.

But when I saw this listing – I knew and so did Sherry

For five months it could be ours

and we did not have to pack up and leave

and our family and friends could visit

our three bedroom – two bathroom place of solitude!

No hassles – no driving if we choose not too.

Walking to the beach or to the main street in one direction

or if we choose to Walmart and a plaza in the other direction.

Stores – restaurants – gas – lots of options all we can walk to.

And what better place to conduct your internet business

than while walking the surf on the beach!

Her business goes where we go as long as you have phone service!

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com

So we made the plan to drive down here to North Myrtle Beach

to Ocean Keyes and this condo.

We leased it for five months and we have options

we can extend the lease if it is available or find another one

in the same development or nearby.

And by the way – there are golf carts everywhere

people drive them to the beach and park them

in a special lot at each beach entrance!

Our view everyday on our three mile walk

living the life and dream to be near the beach

And it all started from this picture – which I myself have since taken

from the lanai to the beach walking!

Paps’s World – missing the little ones!

We have been gone from their home two weeks.

Yet – almost every day – one of the little ones

will face time or call.

Cassidy loves her MORMOR

she is the one who I think misses us the most.

She would come down those stairs to say good night

give hugs and this would happen several times!

She was always asking when we would come back.

Bode – so much like Cassidy but all boy!

Every morning without fail

from 6 to 6:15 AM.

Down those stairs he would come or if I were on the front porch

climb up onto my lap.

” I LOVE YOU PAPA”!

As simple as that!

Taylor or “T” as I call her

so mature – so kind – who only wants to ride horses!

She takes lessons once a week –

She knows how to groom them and saddle them

how to clean their hooves.

“T” who just wants her ALONE time-

in her room reading or playing with her horses and lego’s!

WHEN THEY WERE YOUNGER!

We spent almost three months with them

One time they spent a year with us.

Sherry is their “MORMOR”

Swedish for MOTHER’S MOTHER!

That is all they have ever called her.

Bode at five is now golfing with his daddy!
“T” is so fast growing up!
Cassidy is the one who teaches the others crafts – just as her MORMOR teaches others!
Cassidy is her MORMOR’S SHADOW!

Yes – missing the three little ones

The older three are growing up

one in college – one about to graduate

and one who wants to be with grandma!

The three little ones – who are young enough

to see we are now at a distance and call all the time.

And then there is Tammy – their mother

who in all her life has never lived more that two hours away

This is where the little ones get it from

MORMOR – MOTHERS MOTHER

Tammy – Sherry’s daughter

The family lives on –

“WE LOVE YOU MORMOR”

Yes LITTLE ones – she knows with tears of joy!

Papa’s World – Visiting Georgetown SC with friends

John – Sherry – Nancy – Papa. on the docks of Georgetown.

This was a first visit – really had never heard of it!

And it is quaint – historic and fun to walk around.

The streets are over hung with large living Oak trees

they form a canopy over the side streets!

A view from the harbor toward the side streets with the live Oak Trees

We had a lunch here in the BIG TUNA at THE OLD FISH HOUSE!

And I had a house salad with grilled fresh Grouper!

It was very good and tasty!

John and Nancy belonged to our church

and one year ago moved South to Mt. Plesant

just outside of Charleston SC.

They both sang in the choir and John sings opera.

Nancy and Sherry were in a group that was called “THE HENS”!

A group of 7 or 8 ladies who once a week got together

for lunch and a movie.

Now – it is down to 3 or 4 as the others relocated.

But we have stayed in touch with John and Nancy

and visited them on our way back from Florida

Just before the pandemic hit!

We have a lot of same likes and views

and can talk – we all are retired so it makes it fun and easy

to join up and visit – Georgetown was the half way point!

We spent a couple hours – wandering around after lunch

enjoying the warm mid 80’s day.

My kind of weather!

Neither one of us likes the cold.

We spoke of planning another trip

and we will visit them again at their home

and have invited them to visit us in North Myrtle Beach.

Now here is a blast from the past!

PBR – my favorite beer when we lived in Western New York!

Hard to find in the South!

Papa’s World – when you get excited – see some Jimmy Buffet – relax – it will be OK!

We had been touring – listening to advice from friends

strangers – and our landlord!

We were visiting different housing neighborhoods

and came across one that we THOUGHT would be IT!

So much so that we actually had the salesman contact his manager.

Could we purchase the lot next to the model

which currently was a parking lot for the model

and place the exact home on that lot

facing the big water view pond

for the exact price of the model?

Well – we left with a package and a wait for a answer.

We were six miles from Broadway on the beach

which meant 7 miles and 15 minutes to the Ocean and beach.

Exactly what we were looking for!

And it would be a brand new home – not to big –

but – as we drove away – it was five miles to a store for food!

A perfect storm so to speak – but a little far to go and buy bread with traffic.

However – it was enticing and more so when we got the email.

“YES” was the answer and they discounted that lot by $5000.00!

Then – we heard JIMMY sing – about the HURRICANE

and this HURRICANE started to rain

into that MARGARITA GLASS

and the whole place sang along!

But the rest of the email read-

“CLOSING WOULD BE JUNE OR JULY”!

8 or 9 months away!

We listened to the song and reflected on our choice

it was there but a little out of reach.

We decided there listening to Jimmy Buffet

calm down – enjoy the journey

for we have only just begun.

Papa’s World – even the days of overcast are beautiful

The ever changing days – sun – clouds overcast!

Living life one day at a time!

The morning view from the lanai!

Ever changing the days at the beach.

The stillness on the water reflections of calmness

Each day has been different –

some wind – on the beach – but calmness here at the condo.

We walk every day if it is not raining

so far in almost a week – no rain!

The sky is moody – gray with white streaks

storms are out there somewhere

But blue sky peeking through

surf coming in or already going out!

Time has come to leave the beach

still gray – still a storm way out there

Reflected sand looking like sky!

Now – the beach walk is over

we continue on our way back to the condo.

Papa’s World – little things here and there!

We now have had “THREE SLEEPS” in our new digs!

And are loving everything we have been doing lately!

Walking with Cindy at the break of dawn

in Magnolia Greens – Leland NC.

I have always loved it here – and we have visited for the past 20 years.

Sunset over the golf course and pond at Buck and Cindy’s house.

And the very second day evening – we saw “ALLIE”!

Whom for the past five or so years we have seen numerous years!

It is a six foot or more Alligator that seems to live in these ponds!

Buck has seen him twice grab a rabbit and a goose!

So – we are aware – and stay back from the edge!

We walk – play golf – laugh – talk

as we have been friends for 34 years or more

they were our neighbors back in WNY before they moved to NC.

Then we moved to NVA and we visited back and forth.

Now – we are looking from Wilmington NC to the border of SC.

They are huge Buffalo Bills fans as we once were!

Now – since we sold our house

are beginning to follow them once again!

We enjoy outings – much the same as they do!

Beach is our calling!

Laughing – talking – playing cards –

and the last few times we have been together

WATCHING SCHITT$ CREEK!

We have watched it all one time and started watching it again.

We do celebrate special occasions

like birthdays

and special get togethers

Golfing!

Yes – Cindy brings shots of Rum Chata!

Whenever we birdie or sometimes for a par!

We do like to have fun – laughs and good times.

Playing golf games – GUYS VS GALS!

They are tough – always down the middle

always putting for at least a par or birdie.

Now – I never know WHERE my ball will land! LOL

So – it makes for fun times!

Papa’s World – journey to a surprise birthday!

We were packed to the ceiling in the car

and on top – it was also packed.

We had to have five months worth of “STUFF”

as we had rented a condo in North Myrtle Beach

for that period of time.

But first – a stop for a surprise birthday party!

Our friends in Magnolia Greens – just outside Leland N.C.

A 15 minute drive to downtown Wilmington N.C.

Buck – was turning 70!

He had no idea we were coming!

We were neighbors starting in 1986

we had known them before that

Being retired – Buck – Sherry and myself

It does not matter about the weekend.

However – Cindy – the youngster of the group

still works!

But – that did not stop her from inviting us to stay

until we moved into the condo

the following Thursday!

And we played golf three different times!

We celebrated Buck’s birthday the whole time we were there!

Her specialty is making Moscow Mules!

And she grows her own mint!

We also have always had a golf challenge

Guys vs. Gals.

And we do this also with other close friends.

So – over the course of five days

we played three times

a total of 45 holes of golf!

We went out to dinner a few times and lunch

And we brought some wine with us

Now – I am not so much for wine

but this was a anniversary issue from Coopers Hawk

and I did find it to be to my tasting!

They have a beautiful new home that Cindy designed

and was part of every single step in the process!

It sits on a point of land
With ponds and channels on three sides

And the 27 hole golf course right across the pond.

I have always loved it here

and it is on my bucket list of places to move to.

Time will tell –

A surprise birthday party

golfing with friends

a few drinks and laughs

at a lovely home and great friends.

Papa’s World – The question is WHY?

It seems that every other post on face book –

is blatantly false!

I am talking about the political posts!

And – really – absurd!

Now – this is not a blog on whom to elect –

but the irritation I seem to have with all this nonsense.

To the point I have to UNFOLLOW a lot of people!

Just for me not to see baseless untrue posts.

There – that makes me feel a lot better!

I always fact check – before I believe anything.

Am I a doubting Thomas!

Maybe – but I seek the truth – I want to know about things!

I love historical facts – stories – and discoveries.

I have habits – everyday routine.

I suppose I could leave my comfort zone and venture out

Instead of my first cup of coffee early –

Maybe a shake – a healthful one!

But I just can not bring myself to do that!

I wonder if that is why people post those things?

I look at things from every direction –

to find meaning –

Maybe I am HOT! LOL

There just may be some truth in this! LOL

But – I do not believe it!

I could get into a lot of trouble over it! LOL

SMILE – LAUGH – FEEL GOOD!

Be helpful – caring –

it cost you nothing but gains you gratitude.

There – I feel better –

Papa’s World – education has been regulated to the home!

As grand parents and as Parents – trying times are ahead

I never imagined we would be doing this –

monitoring school – class – and a kindergarten first time student!

Set up number two!

We had them all set up and then had to move them.

First – there would be too much distraction for Bode

being in the same room with the twins.

Then we had to move Cassidy

because of feed back from Taylor’s monitor!

After the second set up for Bode upstairs

Tammy had to move him because the lighting was not good

His teacher could hardly make him out

so he got better light in front of the living room window!

He is all set up and is interested in what he is doing

and raises his hand to speak!

He has the computer skills and is learning fast on how to navigate!

Taylor’s classroom

Taylor is the only one to remain in her original chair!

Cassidy wanted to move – and Taylor was happy

to stay where she was!

Taylor and Sherry at my desk site

Taylor is the quiet one – and a very good student.

She listens the best of the three.

She was very happy not to move

Has her blanket to stay warm –

this is in the basement – and cooler down here.

She has all her things and animals

and arranged for her to reach.

Yesterday she got dressed for horse back riding

and at TEN YEARS OLD

comes up to Sherry’s shoulder

Sherry is 5′ 9″!

Cassidy’s desk – notice how neat and organized everything is!

Cassidy wanted to be the one to move –

we set up our table in the back room with the flowered sectional.

They use this as the playroom and there is a huge closet

and that is where she moved all the toys by herself

so we could set up the table!

Cassidy with her favorite stuffed animal and one sitting on the table as if watching!

She is the neatest of the three – well Bode has a neat bedroom

but he is all boy and tends to leave whatever he is playing with

and moving onto the next thing.

But – she has to have everything in it’s place

all neat and in rows!

She knows if you move anything!

She can be the sweetest little girl

in her little voice – but she can also be the opposite.

Of the three – she clings to MorMor

asking the questions of when we are leaving

and when she will see us again.

She always makes it a point to say goodnight or goodbye.

Tammy Bode Taylor Cassidy

Tammy was the first one to follow us to NVA

We made the trip back to Rochester to pack her up

and she moved down to live with us.

She is quiet about the move – but like Debby who is very emotional

about us leaving – she is also.

Papa’s World – life – living life – doing it my way!

Family – my why!

Living life doing it my way – became my blog site!

Family became my WHY

and FRIENDS became my reason – to meet my FAMILY!

However – I never stay in bed unless I am ill which is not often!

I think I have always been living life my own way

I am a watcher – listener – observing what is around me.

I have my opinions – unless asked – I keep them to myself.

I am a independent – I do not like party’s

I do not need to adhere to a agenda

I think for myself.

Hence – my blog livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

I do not choose one news outlet over another

I can see for myself – and think things through.

I listen to people talk – I see actions – I select what I think is the truth.

Both sides – and the middle.

My family – church – friends are important to me.

Not all of the above think as I do.

I respect that.

My blog is born of which I have described.

But – mostly to put down memories

in pictures and words.

PAPA & MORMOR

So that the generations now and those to come

have a place to go back and see just who we are.

Papa’s World – before we leave – one last time!

I said to my son in law –

“Sherry made tee times – 4:00 PM. Do you and Tammy want to play”?

And so it was – as we get ever so closer to leaving –

We went to Algonkian Golf Course –

among the deer once more!

This time not as many – but there were a lot of deer – just driving into the course

We discovered this course last year after living here for 21 years!

Only by accident as the kids went together and bought us gift cards

to golf at the County Golf Courses!

There are three of them – and we had played the Brambleton Coures

just a mile from our home.

The other one was a good hour away

but this one was 30 minutes away and near our church.

They said yes – and we went on Monday afternoon – labor day!

It was not crazy busy – and we actually got to tee off early.

What a fun time – Sherry said she loves this course.

This was our third time to play it.

Once last year with Buck and Cindy –

then a couple weeks ago with Jayson and Ginger

and this time with Tammy and Marcus.

Marcus about to hit his second ball

This course is a regular links course – but very flat –

trees everywhere – and narrow fairways – and “DEER”!

I was within 10 feet of two deer grazing

They are very tame and are in packs –

They are laying down or just in the high weeds.

They are by the greens or tee boxes.

They are not afraid and this whole area is a public park.

There is a walking path that runs right through the golf course

with hundreds of people walking – running or biking.

Social activity is abound here.

We both seem to play well here – as the fairways are very narrow

but run right next to the next fairway –

separated by dozens of mature trees!

Each tee box has five different tee’s.

Marcus and Tammy

If you hit the ball short and straight

you tend not to get into trouble

I have slowed my swing down

and found that I am mostly down the middle some

175 to 200 yards.

Sherry is consistent – 125 to 150 yards.

If I line her up correctly she hits where she is aiming!

Being in control is where it is at for us in golf!

Our closest friends for over 38 years.

Soon – I am hoping when we go South

We shall once again join up with our old friends to golf.

After all – we have been doing this for years and years.

Sherry and the deer

But ALGONKIAN GOLF COURSE will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Just like back home in NWPA Kane Golf Course has a place.

Papa’s World – service outside after six months

It has been a long six months –

our last service within the church proper

was in the middle of March.

The Pandemic – who would of known!

Pastor Annabele and the tech crew with the music director Jennifer

We have had the regular service every Sunday

by virtual feed.

Reduced from two services to one.

Community Lutheran Church Sterling Va.

We have been attending for over 15 years.

We found our home after searching for six plus years.

After transfering to NVA from WNY

We finally found what we had left behind.

We tried numerous churches

Being directed into spaces for social distancing

We became involved – watching the community grow

Now – we have but one outside service left to attend

and – we shall depart once again

where we will seek out another church

The parking lot – cars on the outside
The pastor and set up in the middle being filmed
All around – on the grass – on the hill – people attending
The trees providing shade with blue skies overhead.
People attending – estimated 70 to 90 with 108 on line

Six months is a long time for a pastor not having any contact in person

Six months and so many changes taking place

People moving out – leaving as we are doing

Six months of changing lives.

Never to see them again.

Our little family group – Marcus father and mother – Sherry – Tammy and the little ones

It will be sad when we leave

For pastor told us that the last service we are here

She and the congregation will be saying their goodbyes to us

Emotions for both Sherry and myself will be high

We can not hug – shake hands – only stand there with masks on

and once again leave – on our next journey.

The church and bible have taught us this

One more service outside – then saying goodbye – going to be a emotional day

Papa’s World – a little place to eat on the river!

MERROIR

Not sure just how you say this name –

I think it is French!

And it sits on what I think is still the Rappahannock River

or one of the many inland bays of the Chesapeake Bay.

My son in law had eaten here before.

But – where ever it is – I want to go back

As I had the best AHI TUNA I have ever eaten!

AHI TUNA

It must of been the seasoning – and it was done just right!

We had gone off the resort of The Tides –

because the day we arrived – their dining room was closed.

And Marcus and Tammy had been here before.

Not many people at all – we almost had the whole outside to ourselves!

And you could not sit inside.

SHRIMP & LOBSTER ROLL!

The little ones all had the shrimp and lobster roll along with Sherry.

She said it was very good!

Tammy and Marcus had the oysters as a appetizer

Now – I have never had a feeling to eat oysters

and I think that goes way back to my father

every Friday night – he had oyster soup!

And it just did not look good to me!

Bode almost made it

Bode wanted to try one –

but at the last moment gave it up to Taylor

and she ate it and gave it a THUMBS UP!

The view from our table

I think there were three other people there

but they also were doing a good take out business.

You could walk over and look into the kitchen from three sides.

And two ladies were busy cooking in there!

I recommend this place!

Sherry taking the three little ones to look into the bay where they saw a dolphin up close!
On the other side was a marina with tons of docked boats
Bode Taylor Cassidy

I would imagine this being a very busy place

if it were not for the pandemic

Marcus and Tammy said when they were there last year

it was packed.

I hope it stays – I most likely will never get back there

BUT MERRIOR on the bay – remember that

and if you have a chance – stop in –

The pan seared AHI TUNA was out of this world!

And the sunsets weren’t bad either!

Papa’s World – cruising the Rappahannock – family.

While staying at The Tides Inn on the Rappahannock river

For the birthday’s of Tammy – Cassidy and Taylor

We decided to rent a electric boat

called the Duffy 18.

We were told where we could or could not go –

Stay in the large bays and not the main river!

The combined bays are really large and provide a lot of scenery.

The electric boat was quiet – large and comfortable

affording all of us room to sit

a table and places to put our numerous coolers and snacks.

We had the boat reserved for three hours

and we used every bit of that time

we had a roof to keep the hot sun off

and all the plastic sides were lifted up

so we had a breeze!

My son in law Marcus was the captain

but he allowed each of the three kids turns at driving!

I just relaxed and enjoyed the cruise as they all drove.

Sometimes we had a breeze

out in the open bay –

but once we went up the coves

it disappeared!

OSPREY NESTS WERE EVERYWHERE!
Everyone moved around to different seating

At one point we came across a couple dolphins

and we would tag along with them.

Here the twins are on the lookout for them.

This went on for about a half hour and made for a exciting time!

Cruising the RAPPAHANNOCK BAYS with a electric Duffy boat!

Papa’s World – when birthdays come in THREE’S

Taylor Cassidy Tammy ( mommy)

Ten years ago – they were born – early –

Taylor was growing and Cassidy was not

So I think just around 32 or 33 weeks

The doctor decided now was the time

and they were so tiny – 3 lbs. something each

and Taylor bigger – so it has been for ten years!

Tammy

Tammy – she struggled at first –

and – to be sure the twins were all right

she got to come home first

then – the smallest – Cassidy came home!

Then three days later – Taylor.

There was nothing wrong with either one

they just had to make sure since they were so tiny

that they would eat and be okay.

Today Taylor – who I think is going to be as tall or taller than Sherry!
Cassidy – she loves her MorMor ( Sherry) and asks almost everyday when we are leaving.
Taylor and Cassidy

So the same but oh so different

day and night

Taylor laid back

Cassidy always busy

The birthdays were not planned

it was all in the hands of the doctor

and so now we have THREE BIRTHDAYS!

Celebrating three in one day
Birthday celebration comes in THREE!
Taylor “BEAR”
Cassidy – the little dynamo

Papa’s World – laughter – smiling – sharing good vibes

Many of us out here – struggle with food and added weight –

going on diets – making pledges and looking in the mirror

Well – at least I found one thing on me that fits every year!

Good day everyone – when I started writing –

first on face book and now this blog

livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

I said I would write smiles – laughter – family – friends

and adventures and good thoughts.

I have managed to do it most of the time regardless

of the goings on in the World.

I am a positive person – thinking that most things work themselves out

or in a 24 hour time are forgotten and moved on!

I take after my Mom –

one fellow co-worker after I told them about my mother

said “Now I know where you got the calmness and feisty

attitude from!”

I have always had a quiet sense of humor –

but when around close friends

my inner self comes out!

A few beers and a micro phone

Well – have you ever heard a

“OLD LOVE SICK COON HOUND YOWL”!

Well – that would be me!

Along with the humor and good times

family is important to me and my life.

I have two grown sons

and they live in NWPA

I do not get to see them enough since we moved to NVA

But – they have made me a proud dad.

The oldest can build house – beginning to end

by himself if he had too!

The youngest runs his own energy – insulation company

mainly for the State and power companies.

And I also have two grandsons who live across the country.

Close to us are the grand daughters and grandson

who live nearby.

FAMILY is a important part of my blog. MEMORIES!

My wife – both of us have our own thoughts on love –

country – family and social society.

Each in our own way –

but we both understand each other

and support each other

guarding each others back.

That is what love is to me.

My wife was the first to encourage me to write

as she was the first to encourage me to join face book.

She told me I had to put these writings – memories in a safe place

and she told me that I had too many friends and people

asking her on face book how I was & saying hello.

I am glad I listened – now I have all these friends

and blog posts – that can be read by future generations!

That is why my blog exists – my writings preserved

My memories of my life for our kids to read and see in pictures.

To date I have 259 members to my blog site.

Everytime I blog – they get a email

and what is so great about this

is that it is FREE to subscribe!

You won’t get packages or charges just a email

Papa’s World – Good thoughts and smiles!

Today – I share smiles – good thoughts and positive feelings!

We are following our new dream after 14 years.

Learning and using people’s names!

That is a tough one for me even though I have a good memory.

Sherry will introduce me and I just seem not to retain it!

But – I am going to try harder!

Today I carry this in my pocket –

and the darn thing has a mind of its own.

All f a sudden I will faintly here a voice and I look around.

Sherry just laughs – my smile for the day – it is YOU!

Lo and behodl – I pull my SMART PHONE OUT –

and someone is talking – could be a video – or someone I do not know.

Anyway – it provided a smile and laugh at my expense! LOL

Willie Nelson – part of the famous country singers –

who called themselves “THE OUTLAWS” –

says it simple and true –

Which brings a smile to my face

and good thoughts in my heart!

YEAH – on my bucket list of UFO’S – Loch Ness

and BIG FOOT!

Now – another blog sometime – or did I already write one?

I did see a cluster of UFO’S and have no idea what they were.

But – I would love to see a BIGFOOT – not up close –

but to verify in my own mine they are real!

And YES – after my sighting of lights- I BELIEVE _

As MUELLER would say –

“The truth is out there”!

You know – there is truth in this – enough said –

SMILE – YOU’RE ON FACE BOOK!

Been together 39 1/2 years –

Married 38 plus years

and now – we are on our next adventure

Time to buy the CRAYON’S! LOL

Papa’s World – one last day at our daughters house!

We spent a last day before we leave and go to South Carolina

at the house of Mike and Debby’s

with the two granddaughters!

Ella pushing Sarah on the tree swing

And we spent the entire day outside – chilly but bright sunshine.

This is how they live – hiking – sports – outside – campfires!

Their home is beautiful – set in the fringe of the woods.

The girls have lived here for 15 years

He has a complete backyard with different skill learning activities

A fire pit

There is also a zip line and in winter – a run to slide in the snow.

A trampoline – hiking trail –

Soccer practice equipment

It also was the second weekend of the community wide garage sale!

We helped them set up and take down.

Had to wear my jacket as it was in the low 60’s!

We planned this so we could spend one last time before we leave.

It is never easy to say goodbye

but the upside will be a place to come and visit

and being retired we will come back often

we are keeping our doctors – and dentist –

Mother and daughter
Bonding mother and daughter
This goes for both daughters Debby and Tammy! LOL!

We took them out for dinner the night before

sharing one last meal

missing our oldest granddaughter

who is away at college!

Sarah you just never know what she will do! LOL
Ella and her mother

Life is never easy – leaving will be hard – but – it is time.

We have all been close in NVA.

For over 21 years.

Proud of Debby – she gave up creamer!!!!

Our last day was spent just like we expected

outdoors – blue skies – sunshine –

a little chilly – campfire the night before

eating healthy –

loving life and watching the girls

have so much fun togehther

laughing – playing –

Papa’s World – This is me!

Today we finish packing up – and say goodbye.

It will be tearful to say the least as

I am a big slob when it comes to this.

I have always been sentimental in a quiet way.

My persona is on the quiet side

I like to observe and listen

see what is up with everyone else!

This is me!

Now – in my past – there was a time I was like this!

And then – my wife – who saved my life – we made a lifestyle change!

We started with a supplement known as Juice Plus –

Orchard ( fruits) Garden ( veggies) Vineyard ( berries) Omegas ( algae)3,6,7,8,9 !

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com Sherry’s website!

Which we found out through the research

was the next best thing to fruits and vegetables

IF YOU CAN NOT EAT THE REQUIRED SERVINGS OF UNCOOKED EACH DAY!

This is me!

In my early days – I would have a few beers –

and in my early – early days – I tried smoking –

both cigarettes and some weed

But I just could not hang with either one!

And the hard stuff was not my thing either.

Usually 2 or 3 beers did me in.

And then I would get a headache – hangover!

Now – believe this or not – since I started JP 15 years ago

I DO NOT GET THE HEADACHE OR HANGOVER!

Go figure that one out!

This is me!

Easily my number one fault –

I have to have my cup of coffee or hot tea each morning!

I do not use sugar and just a touch of cream

just enough to make it not black

and in tea – nothing –

I was a tea drinker first – from my grandma and mother!

This is me!

YES – I do this every morning and when I brush my teeth

always have – do not know why –

must of been taught that way from my mom

grandma or sister – all three raised me!

This is me!

EVERYDAY this happens to me! LOL

And it is not just one time but a series of times!

SNEEZE – blow my nose – repeat –

could be up to a dozen times in a row!

This is me!

I did not go onto college –

I had been in a car accident when I was a senior.

I spent 51 days in the hospital!

I did not know if I would ever walk again.

This was 1966 and NAM was raging.

I was not able to pass the physical

and I had other obligations – like a newborn son.

So – I had to work – to survive and I learned to walk again.

This is me!

I love all 10 of my wife’s ! LOL

My second marriage – 38 years ago!

And we now go onto our next adventure

we sold our fifth home we have owned together.

We are now homeless – living between our two daughters.

This is me!

Sherry ( MorMor) Tom ( Papa)

Today – we finish packing and give hugs and take hugs

It is the little ones who are going to make me tear up.

Little Cassidy – every night comes running downstairs to say goodnight

followed by the footsteps of the other two.

This is me!

Our reasons

This is the hardest part of our new lives

going South – 7 hours away.

But – we will return – as we can do this now

that we have no home but are leasing

a 3 bedroom – 2 bathroom condo

3 blocks to the beach!

So we have lots of room for visits.

We are keeping our dental and doctors –

so we will return as needed.

This is me!

Papa’s World – skies – sunset – living life – doing it my way.

Living life doing it my way is the theme to my everyday Blog!

As the above quotes –

LIVE ANYWAY – I take my days one at a time.

I came close to dying when I had my heart attack

A WIDOW MAKER they told me!

I looked at life different after that!

I cherish each sunrise and each sunset!

BE HONEST ANYWAY –

I guess this is the main reason I have no political party.

And I believe this has followed me my entire life.

It is hard to find honesty – and there are times I have not been.

But – my belief in God and forgiveness

Is the way I lead my life – thanks to my wife.

LOVE ANYWAY –

I try to follow this and it is hard to do.

I have many friends –

and I had to unfollow them on social media.

Not unfriend them

but the mean – unproven things were just too much for me.

But – I still LOVE them!

PLAY FAIR ANYWAY-

In games – life and living

I take this to heart

To me – it is how you play

not how you win.

I have always been that way –

I am competitive – but also fair.

If I lose – I lose

and come back again!

livinglifedoingitmyway.blog is MY SITE

Life comes at you – how you handle it – says a lot about you.

My hope in this blog – is that it helps someone out there

that you can be loved – fair – honest and live anyway!

Papa’s World – Last Sunday – Church Goodbyes!

Community Lutheran Church – Sterling Va.

It is never easy saying goodbye!

For 15 years we have called this our home church.

After we moved to NVA in 1999 –

it took us over six years to find a place of worship

A place to be happy with and in.

So it came to be – on Sunday – at the end of the service outdoors

in the center of the main parking lot

Pastor Annabel called us forward

to stand befroe the congregation

receive a blessing and say goodbye.

Sherry and Papa and Pastor Annabel

I have never been good at these type of things

First because I did not know what to say

and second – even if I did – I couldn’t

I am emotional –

I write much better than I talk.

Playing of the trumpets
The altar and music in the center
Finally at last – a real service – be it outdoors

For one last time – we gathered as a family and in-laws

to be at our last service before we head South.

Taylor and Cassidy – they will miss us – taking them to choir
Bode our little granson
Cassidy next to her MorMor ( mothers mother)

We will be back for Christmas if they are having services!

We will search for a church in whatever our new location shall be.

The little ones

Saying goodbye is never easy

saying hello is much easier

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

For the time being until we find our next church

Go in peace – thanks be to God.

Papa’s World – lessons in life

Here we are – just a few days away from packing up

and leaving for our five month rental of a condo

in North Myrtle beach!

That has gone by so fast!

We have been living with our two daughters

and their family’s

going back and forth.

We have also been traveling and seeing friends.

Our lives from the past fourteen years

have changed in dramatic form!

We sold our home – most of the furniture

rented a storage unit for mostly personal things

and set our sights on going further South

To explore our options

NO MORTGAGE NO TAXES NO HOA FEES

In other words – we are vagabonds – not quite homeless

and searching for what we want to do next!

Grand children minus one in college

We will miss them – but – we are free to travel back and forth

and we will see them as often as we can.

We have purchased a new car – after seven years and 126,000 miles

So we made the change – pandemic and all.

It was time – the housing market had rebounded

We do not know what the future holds

But – now – at our age – is the right time.

Tammy and Debby

It will not be easy for them

as they both followed us here to NVA 21 years ago

But – we promise to be back often.

And now you will have a place to vacation to come to.

The Sun sets on this part of our lives

But begins with a Sunrise on the next part.

Remember the good times

and think of the memories we shall make in the future

We will once again begin new lessons in life

and those lessons will include all of you

with much love – Papa & MORMOR

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
