Papa’s World – Cousin Douglas comes to visit – Swede’s talk!

The view from our condo – never gets old.

Douglas will stop overnight – on his journey back North from Florida.

Doug is first cousin to Sherry – both his grandmother and Sherry’s grandmother were sisters

and both from Sweden first generation.

Doug is two years older and can speak fluent in Swedish.

He was a educator all his life – Principal – Superintendent and author.

With over 7000 followers on his twitter blog site.

This is the first time in I believe four years since we last saw him.

And – have invited him to stop in on his next journey through the area.

A lot of family history from both of them was discussed.

I love history – and family history is my observations I like to listen to.

I would sit for hours and talk to her mother about her and her family and childhood.

Papa’s World – Where did the time go?

Our new home we are building in Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach – N.C.

We are building a new home – and where did the past almost 40 years go?

In fact – it seems like only yesterday – 1999 – we transferred to NVA from WNY!

Today – we are on another chapter of our life together.

And in a few months time – our house will be done and we will move in!

The back of the house – patio – and bump out window of the master bedroom – and behind sherry – will be all windows of the sun room.

This will be our third house we have built together.

Time has a way of just moving ahead and so fast!

We decided to build here – instead of buying – mainly because

We will have everything we want – for basically the same price!

Everything in our price range we looked at – had to have updates –

or did not have a garage, or too small.

After coming in the front door – office to the left – bedroom to the right – and living room and sun room straight ahead.

Papa’s World – Barefoot Landing – Playground – grand kids!

One of our favorite places to go and walk & show visitors –

Is Barefoot Landing – maybe 4 or 5 miles from where we are staying!

Walking around with the little ones –

all the while they are eagar to get to the playground –

to get that energy all bundled up out!

All three in their happy place – and now 450 miles away – “when we come back MorMor – can we go to the play ground”?

They loved it here and even made some friends who they will never see again!

Playing tag – up and down and all around for a hour or more!

This huge old live oak tree – was moved here and saved from a parking lot 800 feet away!

I found that to be awesome – to move and save this over 200 year old oak tree.

And to build a playground around it!

We teach them about nature – walking the paths and trails!

TAG YOU ARE IT! and so it goes – not once but twice we brought them here –

and if they had it their way – we would of been here all day- everyday!

But now – it is time to move on – explore and see the boats and ICW!

Papa’s World – Morning begins our day out to Barefoot Landing!

We do plan some days ahead –

mostly – we walk in the mornings

usually around 9 am.

Other days it is errands to run – houses to see

areas to explore –

and a trip down the street

to BAREFOOT LANDING in North Myrtle Beach!

Now – to get our STEPS in

we go here and walk around.

It is peaceful – not crowded

and you walk around the lake

and among the stores.

We also have had lunch here.

And it is maybe 5 or 6 miles away.

There is construction going on for a new brewery

and it looks to be really huge!

But in the mean time – they have set up a small park like area.

With tables – artificial lawn – stringed lights

a playground for kids

and a small tear drop trailer that is converted into a kitchen!

It is called Crooked Hammock Brewery!

I had one of them from a small TIKI LIKE HUT

next to the tear drop trailer.

It was what I wanted – not too heavy

and a hint of coconut aftertaste.

Now that may not sound good to you

but I enjoyed it and would drink it again.

I do not like IPA’s or heavy beer.

While sitting there at a long table all by ourselves

a table that could easily seat 10 or 12 people.

I noticed another couple with masks on purchase a couple beers

in cans from the brewery.

They had no where to sit

so I invited them to sit at the other end of our long table.

We carried on a conversation and found out at one time they had lived near us in Northern Va.

They had done the same as us and had purchased a condo

overlooking the marina – where we had previously

had dinner with the McBrides and Sherry’s sister

at a place called CLARK’S!

We had met another couple – exchanged address’s

and phone numbers –

we had made new friends simply by offering a seat for them.

You never know as your day starts what will transpire.

What began with a brand new sunrise

turned into a fine day of walking – meeting new friends

and discovering a new brewery.

Life is good and getting better!

Papa’s World – Conway S.C. – Old Churches and a walk through history!

We like to explore and I love old towns and history of the area!

We had completed the River Walk and then headed onto main street.

This being Sunday – there were no stores open!

Which surprised me as there were lots of people on the River Walk.

A cool little garden and fountain just off main street!

I assume this mural has a part of the history of this town!

Walking – taking in the sites – and then we both noticed just how many old

historic churches were here!

Maybe that is the reason for stores being closed on Sunday?

This church was too big to get in one photo – and had been built in the 1800’s!

The first view you get of this church walking up to it – the previous picture was the center of the church!

The right side of the church – this church took up almost the entire block!

We also looked at the first church that was built here

Thinking that the people had outgrown it!

A beautiful stain glassed window!

Thsi was a very solid built building

but I think it ended up being too small

So they constructed the second church!

I want to go back and spend more time reading the grave stones!

We also walked by one other large church that sat on the river-

and had drive up docks for boats

and signs for people who came to church using the River!

This was also as large as the big one here.

Living life doing it my way – became my blog site!

Family became my WHY

and FRIENDS became my reason – to meet my FAMILY!

However – I never stay in bed unless I am ill which is not often!

I think I have always been living life my own way

I am a watcher – listener – observing what is around me.

I have my opinions – unless asked – I keep them to myself.

I am a independent – I do not like party’s

I do not need to adhere to a agenda

I think for myself.

Hence – my blog livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

I do not choose one news outlet over another

I can see for myself – and think things through.

I listen to people talk – I see actions – I select what I think is the truth.

Both sides – and the middle.

My family – church – friends are important to me.

Not all of the above think as I do.

I respect that.

My blog is born of which I have described.

But – mostly to put down memories

in pictures and words.

So that the generations now and those to come

have a place to go back and see just who we are.

Therefore my blog is born

Papa’s World – my life – memories – for my family.

All my life I have chosen to listen – to observe –

and take it all in – trying to see all sides.

My sister was a master at this!

My older brother often would listen

then in a very thoughtful way – comment.

I have tried to emulate both.

Small in stature she was – but ruled with a iron will!

She was almost 98 years old when she passed away.

She had outlived her husband and second husband –

One of my brothers and my sister and brother in law

whom both lived right next door and took care of her.

She was a excellent cook as was my dad.

She was known for her baking bread – rolls and pies

all over town.

Often sending them to the doctor or other people in town.

My father every Friday night – we were Catholic –

No meat – would fry at the table on a electric grill –

Salmon patties – pan cakes and his favorite –

oyster soup! ( NOT MINE)

My father was a hunter – fisherman – sportsman.

He also graduated from High School in his Sophomore year

But My grandfather – who taught school for over 50 years

made him take his junior and senior years over again.

Saying he was too young to continue on!

They instilled in me what you read here.

I was like a second family to come along.

My sister was 15 years older and my brother 10 years old

when I was born.

Then along came my younger brother some 4 1/2 years later.

My dad passed at age 59.

But what I remember was that she was quiet – smiling –

but he always listened to her

and I most certainly did also.

Papa’s World – BOOK CLUB and a place to read

It was FIVE years ago that I attended my first BOOK CLUB –

Only because the moderator was my wife !

My reading material is fiction – detective – sci – fi –

Sports page – front page – and local news –

I had no idea what they read –

But for five years –

I have expanded my horizons !

I have read books I never heard about –

nor would I EVER pick up to read !

THREE OF THE ALMOST 90 BOOKS
SHE HAS LED THE GROUP TO READ AND DISCUSS

Out of all that we have read – my favorite author

and I have read all his books except one –

Is FREDRIK BACKMAN –

A author from SWEDEN !

IMAGINE THAT as I am married to a third generation removed SWEDE !

These books – I find are mostly not fiction and deal with real life –

Except his !

A MAN CALLED OVE – BEARTOWN – and many more are excellent fiction.

He has a way of spinning a dozen characters

that he could write a entire book on each one !

( and some he has )

Reading has been my go to all my life –

In fact my Freshman year of H.S. –

” IVANHOE” saved my passing English class that year !

I am a terrible speller –

When I was in second grade –

the county decided that memory –

was the best way to spell –

instead of the traditional way –

Well that lasted a couple years

and then they went back

But I never learned the proper way !

And I suspect – a lot of us in that age frame are the same way !

A tough read – in depth –

I found myself rereading pages and pages –

Just to understand –

But I will tell you all –

It hit home –

it is about what is going on now

It is what has happened for 300 plus years

We live today as a result of struggles from our history

Find a quiet place – a place of peace –
