Papa’s World – Good Thoughts – Some Humor!

The day began when I took on the job of coloring the grout lines in the shower!

Both on the walls and the floor – think two-by-four-inch floor tile –

and twelve by twelve wall tile!

This required hands and knees bent low over the floor adding the grout coloring!

the walls were easier as I could stand or sit on a stool!

It took me two and one-half hours and I had to finish up the next day!

The above picture relates to what followed later that day!

In the afternoon – 2:30pm. to 4:00 pm. –

We volunteered to go to OUR COASTAL LIVING HOME –

For senior residents.

We volunteer here at least once a month.

Sherry helps with the resident’s monthly shopping –

A room is set up with donated items –

clothes – jewelry – knick-knacks –

displayed on racks and tables.

They use money credits they earn throughout the month and can shop for items.

They come in in wheelchairs – walkers and some are still able to walk.

Most are in their late 70’s to mid 90’s!

While she does this I attend the library –

organizing the books ( keeping them mostly on the top shelf so it is easier for them to see)

Separating the puzzles into the number of pieces.

But this day – we were there to help out for a Veterans Day ice cream social celebration!

Twenty residents showed up –

Many can not leave their rooms-

but they came in being pushed in wheelchairs –

Walkers or canes.

Two men were there and a celebration and a certificate read on their service as VETS!

I scooped ice cream while Sherry and one other volunteer put toppings on as asked and delivered to their seat at the tables.

Then – moved around to different tables to talk to them.

That was the best part as then they had other people to talk to!

While we volunteer our services –

We know that down the road –

someday this may be us sitting in a wheelchair –

We try as hard as we can to age healthy!

One woman was two years younger than either one of us.

This helps us think young –

keeping us active and still helping others as much as we can.

Papa’s World – Supplies for Helena!

The weather turned cooler – here in OIB –

it was 55 degrees before the Sun came up!

It is the mountains of WNC –

It was colder –

and many sheltered in tents!

Our friends in Hickory, N.C. –

selected coats – sweaters – anything to warm those in need!

They purchased from Goodwill – took donations –

and delivered them in their vehicles to counties –

The operation at the airport had slowed down –

due to the facilities being stocked.

The need for warm clothing –

And a way to get it there –

Fell to Linda and Pat –

to deliver what they could to five counties!

Our own OIB-Sunset Beach area also slowed down.

Where we were sending the donations –

had become stocked.

The devastation remained –

Our mission was coming to a close!

One final push –

One final drive into the mountains –

by Linda and Pat!

Bringing needed supplies-

We have done what we could,-

and now it is wait and see!

But at least –

There will be warm clothes for some.

Papa’s World – HELENA DONATIONS!

As the DONATIONS came in – the PURCHASES went out!

As this writing –

DONATIONS: $3600.00

PURCHASES: $3139.22

BALANCE: $460.40

To think we were able to reach out on Social Media and this was the response!

The response came from 10 states and one from a person from Japan!

31 families responded!

Dozens of trips made to the Hickory, N.C. airport –

By Sherry’s school in Smethport, Pa. friends.

They – Linda and Pat – now live in Hickory, N.C.

The airport is near them and was the staging ground for the Helicopters –

that were coordinated to fly into hard-to-reach areas!

They would purchase supplies –

send us a photo of the receipt –

and we would mail a check to them to cover the expense.

This became a direct lifeline to the areas –

Our own areas had dwindled –

This will allow us to continue as long as the donations come in!

Our thanks go out to these two-

Who have helped to deliver supplies-

DONATIONS FOR HELENA VICTIMS!

Papa’s World – Hurricane Helena-Donations.

We found a place to donate clothes –

Our neighbor would take them to a local church –

and then they would see that they got to the victims.

Our friends in HICKORY, N.C. continue to purchase and deliver to the airport supplies.

These will be flown by volunteers in Helicopters to areas hard to reach.

Roads into and out of areas were destroyed!

Day after day we continued to get donations and then make purchases!

We continued to reach out on Social Media for places to take donations!

A lot of places had exhausted their trucks and manpower.

The semi was loaded twice –

Other trailers and trucks more than six times!

Now we waited –

a second Hurricane was approaching Florida – A FIVE!

We shall see and continue –

We have faith in what we are doing!

They work tirelessly –

Separating and bagging donations.

This is but a glimpse into helping folks in distress from a distance.

Papa’s World – Hurrican Helene – collecting at Sunset Beach Pier!

Sherry and I made our first trip to the Sunset Beach Pier as the owners requested donations.

The first load was what we purchased ourselves plus two neighbors dropped off items!

The pier owners are from the WNC mountains and know how to get into ravished towns.

There were two vehicles – a UHAUL truck and A Trailor used for hauling a motorcycle –

1600 lbs. weight limit!

This is when we decided to put out a call and see if we could gather donations –

and start purchasing needed items.

People who donated stayed to help separate the items!

Sherry upper middle and neighbor Patrisha –

Friend Donna – middle bending over and her husband Pete!

The trailer had a 1600 lb. weight limit!

The UHAUL TRUCK – the heavy water was transferred from the trailer to the truck

Within minutes of posting for donations – they started coming in!

Papa and Sherry – after helping to separate the items – we had to leave for a doctor’s appointment!

But – we would start shopping again and see how much and what was needed to make our second return!

I will continue in the next blog with what became a tremendous response from family –

Long ago friends –

and neighborhood neighbors!

WE ARE BLESSED!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – The “KARENS” may find you – maintain Integrity and “GOOD THOUGHTS”

Be the person who gives “FREE SMILES”!

It seems endless – in the mainstream of society now – those souls who seek out those who only

share their own selves in helpful giving –

Give – help – charitable – feelings – gestures.

The vitriolic spouts forth – shocking – challenging – names – accusations – and puzzlement – WHY?

It happens and you question sanity?

You slowly back away – disengage – something is wrong – your thoughts – unstable – danger.

Reaching out to them becomes a danger – best to back away – life becomes dangerous –

Then you become more aware – the crazies are becoming a normal way of life – “KARENS”!

You see them in videos on social media – thinking – that won’t happen here – but then it does!

You refocus – change direction – no contact – you become aware – but your life goes on.

Normal – sane – problems – chips on their shoulders? –

you no longer ponder why – you move on.

A lesson in life – a wake-up call – no bucket list here – just caution.

Thanks for reading PAPA’S WORLD – my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

You continue your life – love – country – family – church and God.

The “KARENS” MAY FIND YOU – MAINTAIN INTEGRITY AND GOOD THOUGHTS – PAPA’S WORLD – HGD!

Papa’s World – oldest granddaughter in Costa Rico – working with children and playing soccer.

The experience of a lifetime – travel – helps kids and play soccer.

Maddy traveled to Costa Rico – part of her education at college – and with her soccer team.

She raised money for the trip with donations from many people and also knew she would be working

with the underprivileged children of this country.

At the first school children went to – the toilets would not flush and no toilet paper.

Yet the children loved having them as mentors in games and contests.

Maddy as captain – far right outside of the line of players.

They played matches against semi-pros of the country and won two of three matches –

losing 3 to 2 on a put-in from their own team!

This trip will shape her future for years to come.

Along with working with the children – they also had downtime to white water raft –

zip lines and hiking – working out and running on beaches

seeing a volcano and the rainforest.

Maddy is in the back row – fourth in white from the right – team picture of their own team and a mixture of semi-pro and college players from Costa Rico.

LESSONS OF LIFE!

Maddy – on the right holding the American Flag!

She has grown up before our eyes – soon to be a senior and one of the captains of her college soccer team.

3.85 GPA – Environmental Science – Engineering

One last year of college and one last year of playing college soccer.

GRANDDAUGHTER IN COSTA RICO – WORKING WITH CHILDREN – PLAYING SOCCER – LIFETIME EXPERIENCE!

Papas World – Salvation Army – Link – Food – Give!

In these days – make your path one of giving.

Can you deliver food from your food pantry or church?

It is coming to the weekend –

People are running out of food

The little ones – the children – oft times –

the only food they have come from school provided lunches.

In our area – schools are still providing that lunch during the week.

BUT THE WEEKEND LOOMS!

Sometimes – you just look around and it is alright to sit and reflect

have your coffee – a beer – a drink – zoom with friends

maintain your life as well as you can

when you can not hug a loved one

Sometimes – the MIND needs comfort!

Take those extra clothes to a charity – a place for hope for those in need.

Salvation Army – Goodwill – area drops for the needy.

I do not need to let them collect on the chair in the corner.

Give what you can – and let thanks come that you do not need.

The World needs us now – as good – kind and giving.

We only have one life – live to give – give to live.
