Papa’s World – a little lunch-dinner with grand kids at Local on the water!

We all were hungry!

So – where do you go during a pandemic – social distancing?

We had been hiking the trails of Vereen Memorial Gardens!

The little ones had some snacks but it was not enough.

So – we decided to take them to “LOCAL ON THE WATER”!

Cassidy Taylor Bode and Mormor in the background!

There was one other couple there – outside – so we had the entire place to ourselves!

The kids loved it – swinging – sand pit – corn hole – and watching the boats

go up and down the ICW!

Cassidy – Bode – two peas in a pod!

Here came a tugboat – leading a flotilla of telephone poles!

This caught the eyes of all three!

There were three tug boats with all these poles in the water between them!

One after another they passed – the poles had cables attached –

the lead tug guided them – the middle tug kept the front and rear poles in a line!

The last and third tug boat!

The third tug brought up the rear – all in all it stretched the length of at least a football field!

We were all just watching it pass by!

We have been here before – at least three times!

And have found that during the afternoon –

hardly anyone is here – making social distancing perfect!

Bode and Cassidy!

PAPA’S WORLD – HOME TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Papa’s World – a walk along a deserted beach with grand kids!

Often times you look on the other side of the fence – and then there comes a time you get a chance to walk at a place that would look the same 300 years ago! Here is that place at the far end of Cherry Grove – S.C. where no houses are built – no piers or docks – just sand – ocean and trees and shrubs – a deserted beach!
This I think is what the coast line looked like long before the settlers came here. No buildings – just raw nature – surf – and sand!
First – you have to find the path through the trees and shrubs to get to the beach!
Finding a very large tree washed upon shore – perhaps 60 feet long!
Sherry Tammy Cassidy Bode Taylor

Walking along the surf – no one in sight – imagining that this is how nature looked centuries ago!

And then we turn around and in the distance the pier – broken from the last major storm! Mother and daughters – solitude – listening to the surf – and time to turn around – head back to the houses.
In the background – the end of the buildings – the broken pier and a deserted beach – and looking ahead into nature what it looked like all those years ago. Tammy – Cassidy – Sherry (MorMor) Bode Taylor

This is a place where the past meets the future –

and we had the pleasure to bring the family

to see – hear and experience it!

Walking back to the future – Bode and MorMor!
Walking to the past from the future!

One of our favorite places to go and walk & show visitors –

Is Barefoot Landing – maybe 4 or 5 miles from where we are staying!

Tammy Taylor Cassidy MorMor Bode

Walking around with the little ones –

all the while they are eagar to get to the playground –

to get that energy all bundled up out!

All three in their happy place – and now 450 miles away – “when we come back MorMor – can we go to the play ground”?

They loved it here and even made some friends who they will never see again!

Playing tag – up and down and all around for a hour or more!

This huge old live oak tree – was moved here and saved from a parking lot 800 feet away!

I found that to be awesome – to move and save this over 200 year old oak tree.

And to build a playground around it!

We teach them about nature – walking the paths and trails!

TAG YOU ARE IT! and so it goes – not once but twice we brought them here –

and if they had it their way – we would of been here all day- everyday!

But now – it is time to move on – explore and see the boats and ICW!

MORMOR – Swedish for MOTHERS-MOTHER – that has become her name for the three little ones!

Sherry has introduced crafts to all the grand kids –

and to this day – the three older ones still do crafts!

Taylor Bode Cassidy 10 6 10 years old.

All you have to do is say craft and the go right to the table – no fuss!

Busy once again – crafting – she teaches them and now Cassidy helps the other two. She is the one who texts – calls or zooms her MORMOR every day!
Cassidy – who can do any craft by herself – and often sets by herself with her IPAD – listening to instructions and creates pictures and drawings that are much larger than what she sees on the IPAD – drawing freestyle!

The older ones have that same talent – Ella has won awards for her creations.

Taylor – whom loves her alone time – building farms – houses – horses out of LEGO’S!
Bode -the one who is hard to slow down – always on the move – loves his craft time with MORMOR!

She teaches them – one at a time – not only crafts – but life itself!

Papa’s World – Papa – when are we going on a hike? PAPA? PAPA?

Our young grandson – five granddaughters and then Bode!

From the very moment they pulled in – he asked that question –

PAPA – CAN WE GO ON YOUR HIKE?

To him – a hike is like back home – rocks – hills forest – streams!

I tried to explain to him it is different here –

But PAPA – That is not a hike – we have to go to the mountains!

Bode – entering the forest for our hike – along the ICW and the marsh land – no gators – at least we saw none!
“FOLLOW ME GUYS”!

He is a leader – and always out in front!

This is him to a tee – always staying ahead of the game – his own mind.

We walked a good mile and one half through the woods –

although he was out in front of me or alongside of me –

he never sought to run off –

staying close to me!

There were many intersections going in different directions – which way do we go PAPA he would ask – I had a map so I could tell him – he always listened to what I would say!
The twins – Taylor and Cassidy stayed close to their MORMOR ( Sherry)

We spent the better part of a hour walking the marsh and the woods

I want to come back here in the Summer so we can see more wild life!

Papa’s World – find a seashell – write a name and date – and then make a wish!

There is a place – next to the ICW – in Vereen Memorial Park – where you find a shell – date it and your name – hang it from a tree – and then make a wish – hundreds of the hang and this one is from our Taylor!
At ten years old – she already is five foot tall – she will someday be taller I think than her MorMor( Sherry) who is 5′ 9″ must be the Swede coming through!
I am little – some day I will be bigger – so she says – but every day she either calls or texts her MorMor ( Sherry ) and that sweet little soft voice – “I love you MorMor ” here she hangs her wish!
Cassidy showing her shell for a wish! I think she looks just like Taylor in this picture!
Bode – hanging his seashell wish – the only boy out of six grand children!
I have said – Cassidy and Bode should of been the twins – they are two peas in a pod!
Bode Taylor Cassidy

They came to spend a long weekend with us –

seeing where we live and where we are building our new home!

They were so excited – and hiking was on our things to do!

We had told them there was a place to make a wish and hang the shells from a tree!

But first you must search for the right shell

then date it and put your name on it!

MorMor – leading Taylor – Cassidy and Bode on a search for their own perfect sea shell!
MorMor(Sherry) inspecting each one as they bring them to her!

The first thing they wanted to do was walk the beach!

Now – wouldn’t you know it that it got cold and windy the day they arrived!

It was so warm the day before people were sitting on the beach and wading in the water!

So we pressed on and walked down and onto the beach.

The wind was the culprit – making it very cold.

Even Bode has enough even though he had no shoes on!

Cassidy Taylor Bode after he put his shoes back on!

We walked to the next beach entrance and exited!

It was a very short walk – but they got to see just how close we are!

Papa’s World – Returning home for Christmas and family time.

After two and one half months –

we journeyed back to our home base in NVA!

We wanted to spend the Holiday with the kids of both families.

And – we took the Covid19 test and were negative!

Our plan was to stay for three weeks and then come back to the Condo

at Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach – S.C.

Papa Maddy Bode Ella Sherry Taylor Sarah Cassidy – our six grand kids whom all wanted us back for Christmas!

“All I want for Christmas is you grandma” says Sarah!

Our time there was both long and short –

long in that it was cold and I do not do cold very well!

We had their first snow – ice and wind for the year.

Short in that it went very fast and we miss them all ready!

A visit to a winery in the snow with a log campfire! BLEU FROG!!!!

We stayed back and forth until our family in Lake Holiday had to go into quarantine

due to coming in contact with a neighbor just by talking outdoors with her.

So – they were able to get the negative tests back and we went up Christmas Eve

to spend the night with them!

So – we got to spend quality time with both families

and then we all had dinner together.

MorMor Bode Taylor Cassidy Tammy

While the weather was cold – we did manage to stay inside – play games

put puzzles together – good dinners and the little ones loved it!

We made the most of the time together

We – had family time

We spent time together before we were to leave

and head back South!

We even got to watch and cheer on the Buffalo Bills football team!

A big part of our sports life before we moved TO NVA!

It was cold – there was snow – ice and wind.

Have a blessed New Year!

Papa’s World – Living with kids before we left – vagabonds – traveling!

Here we are – in our early ’70’s – homeless – living with daughters –

until we pack up and head South

to North Myrtle Beach S.C.

First thing we do as vagabonds – is play some golf!

We made it a point – have fun – play golf – and enjoy the warm weather while we can!

Here we played one of our favorite courses in NVA!

Deer are everywhere – and are so tame – even when you hit toward them

they do not move!

You have to be pretty good to hit them and we are not good! LOL

Our view from youngest daughter and husbands home!

We would have almost three months to wait before we left –

pack up and go –

to a place we had never been and found by accident

OCEAN KEYES – North Myrtle Beach

every day a 1/2 mile walk to the sand and water of the beach.

First – we had to downsize – made dozen of trips to the Salvation Army – sold almost 95% of our household furniture with the house ! And got ourselves a storage unit – one big enough to walk in and through all our “STUFF”!

I thought I would MISS STUFF but I don’t!

I have moved on – just as we were about to do!

But first saying our goodbyes – these are what I will miss – FAMILY!

You never get use to that – WHEN YOU THROW IT AWAY – REMEMBER THERE IS NO AWAY!

That is why we are back home for the Christmas time – for three weeks!

And we will come back again in late Feb. and early March.

They will come down to visit –

And our life will go on!

We will walk once again with them – we will share laughs – and in Jan. hope will bring them to us!
We will meet up once again with old friends – laughing – exploring –
And true to form – PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING! LOL!
ICE CREAM and a SMILE!
This one texts or calls everyday her MORMOR & PAPA!

FAMILY – fun times and memories made –

FUN TIMES and memories to be made!

NEW ADVENTURES AWAIT FOR THESE TWO – as we a\have traveled the World together and now they live only 40 miles from us!

Our friends of many years – Buck and Cindy – have lived down in N.C. for years

and now – we golf every week together.

Family is back home – friends are here!

Yes – the Sun set of a family home – the night before we left – rain shower cleaning the roadway – vagabonds!

We are blessed to have these places to stay –

and now – we have begun our new home build

and once again – it will become a FAMILY HOME!

Once again in the South – we will be together – family – as always – you never throw that away!

Papa’s World – BODE – only grandson – birthday – age 6!

Cassidy BODE Taylor

Our daughters gave us five grand daughters –

family dinners were 8 females – 3 males!

And then – along came BODE!

The first grandson in our little family!

BODE

Even when he was too little to walk

I would push him in the stroller

and one time we passed a open garage door

and he became very excited – pointing to a car parked there.

It was a antique Corvette!

He is all boy – trucks – bikes – helmets and no shoes!

Turning six years old – Bode – as he always is – no shoes!

Off he goes outside – no snow – no ice and no shoes!

Riding his bike – playing baseball – chasing his sisters or running away !

He has this thing of bare feet!

Every morning as I drank my cup of coffee –

when we stayed with them before we moved South

Down the stairs he would come

early – 6:00 am.

And “Hello Papa” !

And climb up into my lap as I wrote my blogs!

Mommy – and Bode – mother and son

First boy in the little family.

He and Cassidy are two peas in the pod!

Yet – he loves Taylor – calling her name.

Cassidy is the protective one – always watching over him.

All three together excited – I can not tell who is saying what

if I am not in the same room with them.

I am hoping to have them here – on the beach – in the sand – running – laughing!
Daddy and Bode – going golfing!

For his Christmas – we gave to him – his first little set of golf clubs

a bag – balls and tees.

There is a video of him his daddy took

Hat on backward – ball on a tee in the fairway

stepping up – the ball falls off the tee – he picks it up

places it back and steps up to the ball

His stance perfect and all of a sudden he swings

You hear the club hit the ball – and his daddy laugh

It leaves the tee and sails down the fairway!

“WAY TO GO BODE” his daddy says!

I think we have a soccer player and a golfer!

I am not too old to enjoy what the years will bring!

First grandson – all boy – yet sentimental – caring for his sisters.

One day he will be the one protecting them!

Happy birthday little one – BODE – six years old – first grandson!

Papa’s World – Family – walking into a new year!

Family

As we start the new year – 2021 –

Hoping that this year will be better than the last!

We now are officially in the South!

But – the family is spread now out more than ever!

Troy Papa Sherry Shawn Trisha

My two sons and daughter in law are all back in NWPA.

They run a energy – audit company that contracts with the state.

Very successful and ever growing

Troy runs the crews – Trisha the office –

and Shawn the audits.

This is all done with grants for the elderly

by both the state and the power companies that serve the elderly.

Three sisters – Sherry – Debbie – Bonnie

Sherry has two sisters – one still lives back in NWPA

The other outside Raleigh N.C.

Both are retired as is Sherry who also runs her own

network marketing company from where ever we live.

We are now across Pa. Va. N.C. and a possible Tenn.

The children of the three sisters – cousins – very close – growing up.

Kristy – Nigel – Bethany – Natalia – Nathan – Tammy – Debby – cousins.

The family has grown over the years –

today you see in the first picture that growth.

And now the grand children of the three sisters

As we age – it seems that get together’s get less and less.

Being so spread out and so diverse –

logistics and time make it almost impossible to bring it off!

Debby’s family – Ella Maddy Sarah Mike a number of years ago.
Tammy and family Taylor Bode Cassidy Marcus

2020 has been a tough year – a time of forced seperation

social distancing – less travel – moving away.

It also has brought us together with Zoom calls

text messages and phone calls.

But one thing is for certain –

family always remains strong.

My blog starts and ends with family.

Papa’s World – Counting our blessings – a year in review – family – friends!

Christmas 2019 – the start of the year in review!

All the grand kids and their parents with Sherry and myself.

When this picture was taken – the only thing we had planned

was for her 16th. birthday – we would take Ella to Florida with us for a week.

She would go to Hollywood studios to see Star Wars!

When each grand child turns 16 – we do something special with them.

Maddy wanted to swim with the Manatee’s and we did that!

Growing up in the ’60’s – we never imagined taking trips with grandparents – mine were all gone by the time I was 16!

As the year progressed – plans were made and soon – we would leave for one month in Florida.

But first – quality time with the young ones.

I will for the rest of life see this as MORMOR and Taylor – walking hand in hand to church!

Although now she is only ten years old – she comes up to just under Sherry’s chin.

She is going to be very tall and loves horse back riding!

2019 was also the year we had friends from AZ. come to visit – and accomplished crossing off everything on their bucket list to see in DC. This is a reflection of Sherry among the ghosts of the Korean War.

Many friends visited over the 21 years we lived outside D.C.

We acted as tour guides – and in the year past – we toured almost every facility

there was to visit including the Capital Building which was a first for us!

The year in review – blessings will continue in the next blog!

We also venture to outside Raleigh – N.C. to visit her sister.

Here – we went to a farm that had what are called BELTED COWS – GOATS & CHICKENS!

They are white with a black belt around the middle!

Never heard of this and never saw this before!

Standing outside the pen with the goats – chickens and cows at the BELTED FARM!

Papa’s World – hiking the trail with the Myers family – grand daughters!

Debby Sarah Sherry Maddy Papa Mike Ella

I love this picture – I told Sherry we need to get it blown up and framed!

And – it all happened in a space of two or thee minutes!

Maddy took her phone – while we all just sort of found a place –

put it up and braced it on a tree limb –

set the timer for 6 seconds and “BOOM”

there it was!

We went back to the new trail – but this time – the whole family went!

This family hikes all the time – that is their form of family time together!

Mike will take the older two – Maddy and Ella – overnight hiking!

He would take Sarah – but she is into more like N.Y.City hiking!

Sarah – but she is the adventure type – always climbing – swinging from vines – exploring woods and meadows.

She is the one I think really likes it but has aspirations of one day dancing – acting – fashion –

But once you do get her out there – no boundry is off limits – being the free spirit she is!

Ella – come on – follow me!
Ella is 5 ‘ 8 1/2 ” Sarah who just turned 14 – I think will be taller – both taking after their grand mother Sherry – who is 5’ 9″

We made it a family day hiking – where Debby – Sherry and I had gone the day before!

A new trail within the city limits of Winchester Va.

When it is completed – with all the side trails and loops

you pretty much can get a easy five miles in!

YEP! there are also pastures and cows!
Walking the trail – Ella Maddy Sarah Mike Papa the trail is made of crushed limestone the whole way! Easy to walk on and not trip!

This day was somewhat cool but warm in the Sun!

And we made a day of it as long as we could.

Many volunteers keep this project going

helping to clear out brush

and maintaining the cut area’s!

There is a farm silo – which you can walk into – and look up and see this. A hand crank on the wall – makes these turn in opposite directions – providing the look of birds soaring in the clouds!
A old farm tractor just sitting there offering a photo opportunity!

Papa’s World – making memories – cookies – with the oldest grand daughters!

First you gather the ingredients – then you gather the grand daughters and their mother!
Mother ( Debby) Ella Sarah Sherry ( grand ma) Maddy

Memories are made each year during the holidays –

making Christmas cookies is one of them!

Sherry has done this for years – and they all love it!

They laugh and laugh at her and with her!
The results – or a small fraction of the results – all decorated by each of the grand daughters!

She teaches them her heritage and is passed down generation to generation.

Sherry is Swedish – her grand mother was born in Sweden.

She is 5 ‘ 9″ tall – and Ella is almost as tall – Sarah will be that also and Taylor at 10 years old

comes up to her chin!

The temptations are there – YUMMY!
She is a educator – teaching them to be themselves – honor – compassion and self worth!

Respect is what they have for her.

Admiration – and laughing – both at her and with her.

Going shopping with Grandma!

MEMORIES for a lifetime!

Ella Sarah Sherry

We will come up once more and spend a couple days and Christmas eve.

Then we will go back to Tammy’s for Christmas day!

The little ones are so excited and she made cookies with them also!

To them she is not grand ma – but MORMOR – mother’s mother in Swedish!

After Christmas we will once again head back to S.C.

Knowing that Memories were once again made

and captured into this blog

Sherry – who stands 5′ 9″ with our three oldest grand daughters!

Now – Maddy is 5 ‘ 6 ” Ella is pretty close to Sherry and Sarah is 5’ 6 or 7″

Sarah has started to get taller like Ella did – and I think will be taller than Sherry!

Plus – one of the twins – Taylor – well she is 10 and comes up to just under Sherry’s chin!

Must be the SWEDISH heritage coming out!

Debby – our oldest daughter – and her three girls

They all went into town to get their ears pierced again!

All except Debby!

Every time she is with them – laughter prevails!

She showed them how when you put our car on cruise control

The radar activates – and the car will almost steer itself!

She took her hands off and it went around two slight bends in the road

They were amazed and then all burst out laughing

as a message came across the screen in the car

“PUT YOUR HANDS BACK ON THE STEERING WHEEL”!

About to get their ears pierced!

A trip with grandma – “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS GRANDMA – IS YOU !” says Sarah!

Well maybe a few other things! LOL

Our plan is to spend three days with them – and then head back to Tammy’s

as they have school and jobs.

Then we will all spend Christmas day together at Tammy’s

at least that is the plan now and could change during these trying times.

Ella and Maddy – Ella may be playing soccer against her next year in college! She has to select between two colleges.

Grandma and Grand Daughters – LIFE IS GOOD!

AT OLD TOWN – WINCHESTER VA.

Papa’s World – Once in a BLUE MOON!

Our little grand daughter Cassidy

texted a message-

” I think it is so COOL that you and Papa are going to the beach –

to take pictures of the full MOON”!

Sherry said did you forget you told her that?

Well – I did – and she did not forget it!

So – off we went in the dark – into the car –

and drove the half mile to the beach entrance!

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

We made our way along the walk way to the sand

and I captured the moon

on a very dark night

I could hardly see the other people who

had made their way to the beach

to do the same thing!

The only light we had was the street light!

We could hear the surf but could not really see it!

Then the full moon lit up the ocean

and the crashing waves on the sandy beach!

This once in your life event of a blue moon on the beach

was worth the effort to bundle up

and hit the beach in the dark.

My little grand daughter –

“THAT IS COOL”!

And then it was back home

to go out on the Lanai

and snap a picture of the Full Blue Moon

coming up over the small lake of Ocean Keyes!

Papa’s World – lessons in life

Here we are – just a few days away from packing up

and leaving for our five month rental of a condo

in North Myrtle beach!

That has gone by so fast!

We have been living with our two daughters

and their family’s

going back and forth.

We have also been traveling and seeing friends.

Our lives from the past fourteen years

have changed in dramatic form!

We sold our home – most of the furniture

rented a storage unit for mostly personal things

and set our sights on going further South

To explore our options

NO MORTGAGE NO TAXES NO HOA FEES

In other words – we are vagabonds – not quite homeless

and searching for what we want to do next!

Grand children minus one in college

We will miss them – but – we are free to travel back and forth

and we will see them as often as we can.

We have purchased a new car – after seven years and 126,000 miles

So we made the change – pandemic and all.

It was time – the housing market had rebounded

We do not know what the future holds

But – now – at our age – is the right time.

Tammy and Debby

It will not be easy for them

as they both followed us here to NVA 21 years ago

But – we promise to be back often.

And now you will have a place to vacation to come to.

The Sun sets on this part of our lives

But begins with a Sunrise on the next part.

Remember the good times

and think of the memories we shall make in the future

We will once again begin new lessons in life

and those lessons will include all of you

with much love – Papa & MORMOR

Papa’s World – Friends at the beach – Sand Bridge!

My buddy Jim for 44 years!

In our early years – our families would vacation together

mostly at the Outer Banks.

Then – we all got busy – did not really go to the beach for a while

Families grew up and moved out – married –

But we still maintained that friendship

Doing the friends get togther every 4 to 6 months.

Sherry Sarah Ella and Papa

Now there are grand kids –

and it seems that it will start all over again

only we vacation with the grand kids!

Jimmy and two of his grand daughters

Life gets busy – for children – grand kids and grand parents.

We have found in the last 4 or 5 years

It is fun to take one at a time or maybe two.

You get more quality time.

Our oldest – Maddy – leaves Saturday for her second year of college!

WHERE DID THAT TIME GO!

Sarah – just drawing at random

We are staying back and forth between Tammy and Debby’s houses.

Soon – at the end of September – we will head South for the Winter.

We have rented a furnished condo – top floor –

Three bedroom – two bath rooms – room for vistors –

Friends and family –

In North Myrtle Beach – 2 or 3 blocks to the beach.

Jim – we played softball together in the late ’70’s

Today – we are enjoying our new life as free from owning a home.

We are making plans to visit friends –

We already went back home

and spent time with my sons and daughter in law.

We got the chance to spend time with Ella and Sarah

Yesterday we met up with Mike and Debby –

who had Ella and Maddy with them –

they had just finished a hike and we wanted to say goodbye to Maddy

before she left Saturday for University of Lynchburg Va.

To continue her college 3.85 GPA and her playing soccer!

Papa and Jim

The time has gone by all too quickly

From playing softball and volleyball together

to now hitting the golf links

Still friends – one retired the other close in a few years.

Toes in the sand – drink in the hand – oh but life is grand!

Papa’s World – homeless – beach vacation – part two.

Sherry Sarah Ella Tom

Our first full beach day was on a Monday!

The whole week would end up warm – hot – a few showers

and fantastic lightening and thunder shows over the ocean

and behind the house!

From the beach a view of our house in the middle

We were just South of the public beach access –

and when I walked up there – groups and families were spread out.

As it was where we set up – everyone seemed to have marked

off their own space 15 to 25 feet from anyone else.

Our little space on this expanded beach

We walked both ways – and people respected your space.

No need as far as we were concerned to wear masks on the beach.

It was wide open – we were not near anyone

and the wind was always blowing.

Besides – everyone in our house had quarantined before coming.

Everyone worked from home or had tests.

As you can see – not that many people around.

Unless you were by the water – you needed foot wear for the sand

which was very hot!

Sarah looking for shells

It was in the low to high 90’s all week.

With one day over 100 and heat index of 104!

It would sprinkle a little then go away

at night we would have lightening shows out over the ocean!

Ella going in the ocean

There was a problem of Jelly Fish

but from what I have read

it is all the way up and down the Carolina’s and Va. coasts

Ella did get stung twice as did Sarah.

I went to the lifeguard and they sent a EMT over.

He applied a heat pack and told us to get her to a hot shower

or a hot tub which we did.

That seemed to cure it.

Several other people also got stung!

Ella 17 Sarah almost 14 Sherry

Sherry is 5′ 9″ and the girls have or are catching up!

This Navy ship was there for several days
Sarah Ella Papa

All in all – the beginning of the vacation week –

was more or less worry free.

We had met those we did not know

All had social distanced

and we were confident going forward we had made the right choice.

Papas World – a little bit of peace and quiet!

We are now gone from our home –

and have set up a base camp

at our youngest daughters & husbands home!

It is a rather large neighborhood – with large homesites

and really spread out!

Lots and lots of flowers – landscaped -fenced in.

Beautiful sunrise and no one out and about!

My spot now to sip my coffee in the morning – the Sun rises from the rear

The gate to the back yard – kids playing – riding bikes – scooters

A happy place this is – also very quiet outside

you hear and see lots of birds and from behind the woods – Cows!

My coffee and my new spot to sip and watch – but – watching is difficult

as you very seldom see anyone!

The back yard patio and gazebo – two fire pits and PURPLE MARTINS!

The neighbor has a birdhouse for PURPLE MARTINS!

And you watch them fly – dive and swoop around – chasing insects!

A rainbow – with no rain – rabbits and beyond the tree line –

pasture & cows and tractor working the fields.

Peaceful noises in early evenings.

Every yard of every house is fenced in – some like these

and some with the black wrought iron fence.

All yards manicured – a couple they mow their own –

but I see landscapers here daily mowing lawns.

We have moved on –

to a quiet place with the grand kids & their parents.

Laughter and love – peace of mind

peace in the heart

and peace in the soul!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

and the grand kids – well they capture my heart.

Papas World – The home base with the 3 little ones!

We have sold the house and moved in with our daughter

and family.

These are our youngest grand children –

The twins – Taylor – the tallest – Cassidy the short one.

And our grand son Bode.

Bode and Cassidy are two peas in a pod!

Being the only boy with five grand daughters

he has become my little buddy!

We are here as sort of a home base –

and will also stay with our other daughter Debby

in Cross Junction Va. at Lake Holiday.

In Lake Holiday with Debby

The three oldest are Maddy – Ella and Sarah.

We will spend time with them but the older two work.

We have been welcomed with open arms –

But our plan is not to infringe – we will travel –

help out when we can and see where we end up.

But for now – I am in a warm fuzzy place

Watching and enjoying each and every moment.

The innocence – the watching them grow up.

And the quiet time of a IPAD –

With all three so quiet and focused.

We have landed in the right place-

Home base with the three little ones

and every so often with the three big ones.

Life is good and we are blessed.

Papas World – Sheltering Day#56 – birthday!

May 7th. 2020 – 71 years old – Pandemic – Social Distancing

Guess I am always going to remember this one!

My wife Sherry – made it a very special day – but she messed up –

and two days before – let the cat out of the bag.

We were going to practice SOCIAL DISTANCING –

BUT – we were going to use our patio which is very large

over 500 square feet and enclosed by a fence and the house

and each family of grand kids will come at specific times

so no one is here at the same time!

My little buddy would also be here
Bode – this picture taken two years ago
gosh – how I miss them all

The first family of Mike – Debby – Maddy – Ella and Sarah

came at 12:30 pm. They parked outback – walked around the back yard

and into the patio –

where we had seating for everyone but at least six feet apart.

They gave me cards they had made – the three girls –

they always make me special crafted cards.

I cherish them and save each one.

Have since they were little!

Now the whole family except Ella – eats very little meat

so we ordered a pizza delivery –

we paid on the site and they delivered

they do not even see you or knock

they text that the pizza is by the front door and then drive off!

We had also fruit – gluten free chips – salsa – wheat less pretzels

And my favorite cake that we made a special trip to WEGMENS

White coconut cream cake! ( which has been years since I had)

We celebrated by each staying in our own seats – laughing –

and then the text – the second group were on their way.

Time to leave – no hugs – but lots of smiles – kind words.

They left – and then it was time to see the little ones and their parents

same routine – the little ones have followed their older cousins

each in turn made special cards and gave to me

(Tammy – Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy & Bode !

How I miss them all.

They dressed up – the little ones – just for this occasion.)

I guess at my age I am sentimental – but to me –

these are the best presents – the cards

for years and years I have saved them!

It will be fun one day to bring them all out and show them

when they are all grown up!

We spent two hours just the same as we did with the older ones.

Sheltering in place on my birthday – strange no hugs –

no handshakes – but – the smiles and laughs.

Earlier I had gotten a call –

From my two sons back in NWPA –

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD” !

I AM BLESSED – my wife made this all happen –

And the boys called me!

What more could I ask for –

A PUZZLE!

Sherry got me another puzzle – 500 pieces!

And a new warm pull over shirt –

which in this freaky Spring of rain and cold

I SHALL WEAR!

Sheltering in place Day# 56 – best birthday ever –

now to get busy and put PUZZLE # 8 together

glad when this is all over!

Papa’s World – living healthy through my grand kids !

A few days ago –

I saw a post that stated ” GRAND PARENTS REMAIN YOUNG ” while watching their grand kids ! Boy – that was right on !

As most of you know – Sherry and I – pick up the twins from school -bring them home until their father picks up the youngest ( only boy grandchild) and then stops to pick up the twins !

Tammy opened her store almost one year ago – Kids consignment store – which is open every day except Monday 10 am. – 5 pm.

So – they needed help and we stepped in along with Marcus’s parents Jennie and Gehard. Since Bode’s preschool is close to them – they pick him up at 1:00 pm. and then Marcus goes after work to pick him up.

Now I must say – I really enjoy my little trip to the school – a little over one mile away. “PAPA – BE FIRST IN LINE ” is what they tell me. Well – even though I am in line one hour before they get out – most times I am second !!! That person must get there after breakfast !But – I use that time to listen and read !

Listening to my favorite radio station – not classic rock or country or rap or whatever else is out there – but ” SPORTS RADIO” 106.7 The Fan! I enjoy kicking back – using a couple wadded up blankets – for a pillow – and just spacing out listening to the talk show. This relaxes me and yes sometime I catch a quick 10 minute power nap ! When I was working – I used my lunch – one hour – every day to do the same thing ! Habits are hard to break !

But – I also listen to these two little girls – talking – conversing and sometimes a argument breaks out ! Now at that time I either look back and tell them to stop or I turn up the radio so loud – that they become silent ! LOL But I find they actually talk so much like adults – on their own daily lives.

Being with them makes me feel young at heart – relating to them – and oh my goodness – the questions are endless – and” WHY” is always asked.

But – then it gets adult like with the answer ” OF COURSE ” or ” ACTUALLY ” or “PAPA” ! I love that – and it makes you think when you answer the “WHY” !

” WHY ARE YOU NUMBER TWO AND NOT NUMBER ONE ” ? I get that one almost every week ! But – how can you argue the fact that life is about staying young even though it might only be a frame of mind !

Turn back time – can’t – capture thoughts words and deeds in pictures – you can – but staying young is a art that we all try to master.

Mine is a matter of mind over physical – thinking – acting and doing! I may not be number one in line but I think I try harder at being number two – after all – “PAPA – WHY AREN’T YOU NUMBER ONE ” keeps me on my toes each week to give a answer and that my friends keeps me young !

Papa’s World – the day they grow up – graduate – 18 yrs.

Soon – that word – meaning like just around the corner – is about to happen!

Our little grand daughter Maddy – with her “PIGGY” – which went everywhere she went. Just outside Sherry’ s parents home.

She now is 18 and about to graduate and start a brand new journey at The University of Lynchburg, Va. And signed a letter of intent to play soccer.

Maddy sitting next to her sister Ella at Raquet Lake N.Y.

She has grown into a beautiful young lady – who maintains a 4.10 GPA. Playing soccer at a high level.

Here she is with her two other sisters and her twin cousins. With GIGI who sadly passed away last November – Sherry’s mother.

Through the years – when she was almost as small as the soccer ball – she played – co-ed and then onto two travel teams. One in Winchester Va. and then – to better herself- she traveled 60 miles each way three times a week to practice with the Loudoun RED soccer team.

Forever young in my mind.

The years have swiftly marched by – all the games in and out of state have passed – memorable only in so many pictures taken. Now – she is about to take the final walk on stage – graduate and then go on.

Her drawing years ago of her ” PIGGY” as she called it – so innocent on a swing – memory of sweet youth.

The memory of the little girl – always smiling – always so small – everyone else was so much bigger until the growth spurt of the last few years. Today – she is almost as tall as her grandmother Sherry who is 5 ‘ 9″ !

She has grown into her role as starting midfielder the last four years.

Three sisters – the start of college – leaving the home – and two behind.

The years have gone by so fast – the other two will be left behind at home – but her presence will always be felt – her favorite “PIGGY” on top of the stuffed animals – her MANATEE blanket on the wall. The trampoline will only feel the bounce of the younger two. The sound of the soccer ball will be down to one – her memory will remain – but her journey begins.

Her determination – all conference – signed letter of intent- to play college soccer

Today I blog not a end or an old story – but the beginning of a new book – a new chapter and a new page about to open up – the little one has gone into memory – but the image still lingers in my mind – PACA – is what she called me – I think because she couldn’t quite say PAPA – but she made my World – and I look forward to the travel to watch once again. The memory shall always be with me – the little foot striking the big soccer ball -and then the smile and off she would go.

SMILE A SMILE FOR ME MY LITTLE MADDY

I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did writing it – my tribute to the little one – the soccer ball almost as big as she is.
