Papa’s World – Our life near the beaches!

Sitting on our front porch!

One of the criteria I wanted –

Was a place to sit in the shade all day long.

So – we got it with this front porch!

This was in July 2021 when we moved in, and you can see the home directly across the street-

Was not completed yet!

We were one of the first to move into this section of the development.

Perhaps halfway through the total process, which took a couple more years to finish.

So, we pretty much watched the construction of more than half the development.

As of now, two lots remain –

Both on either side of the model and they are working on completing them.

Our community is just a couple of miles as the crow flies from the beaches of –

Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach!

LOL – maybe some truth in this!!!!

We are also thirty minutes from North Myrtle Beach, Holden Beach, and Oak Island Beach.

So, we are in the mix as to going to a different beach if we want!

It is here where we spend most of our time –

This is a view of the patio out back with a SOLO FIRE PIT!

I am not much into fire pits, but we do use them when family comes to stay.

We have now furnished this patio –

And replaced the screens on the lanai with EZEE BREEZE-

Water and pollen can not come in!

Sitting in the lanai during a rainstorm is comforting!

But – it also has a lot of sun back here, so I prefer the covered front porch and the glider!

We back up against a protected wildlife site with very tall trees.

Oak and pine.

This will not be cut down and is full of birds.

We have landscaped the yard –

Planting palm trees and crepe myrtles.

The edging is full of stones to prevent weeds.

This extends to all around the house.

This is now the view of the front porch – glider where I sit-

And the stones inside the edging!

It is here that I can sit in the shade and watch the folks go by, walking or driving.

The crepe myrtle and the stones –

Before the stones replaced the mulch completely around the house.

All the landscaping is complete.

Today, we drive ten minutes, park, we have a season pass, and walk on the beach.

We don’t go into the water to swim –

We are seniors and, beyond that,

Youthfully exercise.

But we do walk in the surf!

From the air –

OCEAN ISLE BEACH – the bottom is where we have a parking pass.

We are blessed in our senior years to live near here.

A dream we both had all our lives.

Here we are in the park before you cross over the causeway to SUNSET BEACH –

And along the ICW!

Summertime, we come here to sit under the huge live oak trees in the shade.

We people watch and also the boats going up and down the ICW!

We also go over the causeway bridge to Sunset Beach and walk the beach.

WE ARE LIVING OUR LIFE NEAR THE BEACHES!

SENIORS – RETIREMENT – BEACHES and GOLF!

Golfing with longtime dear friends – Buck and Cindy!

For our senior health and IMMUNE SYSTEM-

For over TWENTY YEARS!

Papa’s World – Spring cleaning – pollen season – the back patio!

The yellow pollen was everywhere – so happy that we had the back lanai enclosed with EZ-BREEZE – allowing us to keep

it outside and not all over our furniture indoors!

But – the outdoor patio was covered as were the outdoor window screens and the screens to the lanai!

So – out came the water hose – and I moved all the furniture off the patio as well as the rug.

I began to wash everything down – starting with the siding and the screens.

I gently used the shower feature on the hose to rinse off the Tower Garden – and the big chairs which are too heavy to move and are connected.

The chairs are really heavy and connected – hard to move for Sherry and me!

I also gently showered the flowers – which we have grown since last spring and the Solo Stove fire pit!

Now on such a nice day – I would rather be out golfing – but this yellow pollen from all the pine trees is everywhere.

I have even seen it in the ocean!

When done and everything is back in place – glad to have it over with and nice and clean – however – this will have to be done again as the pollen season lasts for a while.

When the wind blows it is like a yellow dust cloud floating in the air.

A good rain will wash a lot of it down onto the ground but it forms a yellow scum on the water in the ponds!

Papa’s World – Our new enclosure for the Lanai – is finished after almost nine months of waiting!

The company that we purchased the enclosure from.

In early August of last year, we signed the contract for the materials – it had to be manufactured –

and because of the Pandemic – everything was delayed!

The previous screened in Lanai was taken out and the process began to enclose it once again.
Materials needed to start and a worker measuring and making cuts!
Putting up the heavy gauged framework.
Beginning to take shape.
Installation of the new heavy lock and key door!
Setting in the pre-fab screens and windows.

They worked steadily – efficiently and seemed in no time they were almost done.

Everything was made to order and just what we wanted.

All windows and doors are in -screwing in additional screws to tighten them in.
The windows and walls and the door are complete.

All that was left was for them to caulk everything inside and outside –

Which when done made it look all sealed and neat and clean lines.

A view of the enclosed Lanai with the windows pulled all the way down.

The windows slide all the way down or all the way up – or we can take them out.

The door is thick and locks – the windows go all the way up or down!
No more rain and everything getting wet – and NO MORE YELLOW POLLEN!

We waited a long time to do this and finally, it is done.

It will be dry and warm – in the winter we have a small heater if we are sitting out here.

A very wise investment and it looks really great!

Papa’s World – Building a new home – crossing off home improvements – one at a time!

When we decided to build a new home – we made our selections – but there were things we wanted that had to come after the build – they – the builders did not offer them!

We had a list of things – small – and we had to either hire them done – or do them ourselves / some had to do with landscaping!

Those we hired to be done – involving planting trees – taking out pine straw – replacing with stones and rocks.

And putting in yards of mulch.

Having already removed everything from the outdoor patio – I put down two coats of outdoor concrete paint!

This we had wanted to do from the start – along with doing the same to the enclosed covered lanai.

Here – Sherry and I placed all the furniture from inside outside so I could prep and paint!

When you get old – crawling around on concrete does a number on your knees and feet!

So – I folded up old towels – four of them and would spread them out – so I could move along and paint the trim areas.

But – being old – I still needed to stand up after reaching the end of the four towels – just to stretch those muscles!

The enclosed lanai – working my way from that end to the door that opened up on the patio.
The final stretch – the open door!

It took me two days but I did it! Cross this off the list – and now to put it all back together again.

The end product – inside the lanai!
Inside looking outside to the outdoor patio.
At last, we are done with this project – cross it off the list!

Being old does not mean you can not accomplish a planned project – I know my limitations –

The feeling when done – is worth all those aches and pains!

PAPA’S WORLD – crossing off home improvements one at a time!

Papa’s World – the new home landscaped – irrigation in and trees planted!

In a few days we will close and be in!

The landscape is done – I am not a fan of pine needles instead of mulch – but we had no choice –

May be one of the first things we change!

But – here are two Crepe Myrtles on either side of the house –

plus a live oak tree in the front!

Here is my favorite – front porch – covered and in shade most of the day!

I am a front porch sitter – talking to people as they walk by –

this is one of the main reasons we choose this elevation –

plus the fact we could convert the dining room into a enclosed office space with french doors!

The back of the house – master bedroom to the left – open patio center and the covered enclosed lanai.

We will have a portable fire pit out here with furniture – and it was suggested to maybe a retractable awning!

The lawn runs to the treeline – which will not be cut down – and these will be the only houses you will see on the other side! This is a protected area – can not even touch the tree already down.

We have a decent sized yard – and since we sold all our yard work tools – we will contract out the mowing!

Inside the covered lanai looking out – first thing to go will be the pine needles!
The protected tree line to the right of the house.
Looking straight into the woods from the open patio!

We are happy with the back yard and the way it slopes into the woods. Drainage will not be a problem.

We are in a no flood zone here and 54 feet above sea level.

The ICW is straight East from here 2 to 3 miles away.

If a Hurricane does present itself – we will leave and go inland or to our friends.
