An early picture of me holding my niece and my little brother – both have passed away – in fact – all my close family except two nieces and two great nieces are gone that I grew up with.
A early picture in the ’50’s of my older brother Roger on the basketball team. He also has passed on.
My early childhood was spent in a little town in NWPA called Eldred.
Near the NYS border and just across the mountain from Bradford-
home of Kendall – Penns oil – Quaker State and the South Penn oil fields.
My older brother Roger and myself in The Villages shortly before he passed away.
Growing up here was like the movie “STAND BY ME”
I had friends like that – and road my bike everywhere!
Curfew for me was BE HOME BEFORE THE STREET LIGHTS COME ON”!
My brother in law Bill and my sister Donna – both gone but not forgotten. Bill was once interviewed by Larry King – he was a truck driver but also the Chief of Police and later Mayor – Mr. King found that to be a interesting story!

If you want a peaceful walk – there are miles of trails and paths – among the old growth live oaks – the tall cypress and pine trees of South Carolina.
Along the way – a boardwalk – near the marsh – through the grounds of the old slave quarters – and see the history of this historic old plantation – and the huge rice fields – and wonder how these people lived – worked and toiled.
Scattered about over the acres and acres of the park – hundreds of bronze statues – depicting life of the world – by famous artists – some bigger than life – beautiful to see – and a story behind each one!
A building of hundreds of bronze statues – faces – animals – marble – stone – behold the beauty and capture the imagination of ones soul.
Carved out of wood – almost real like – exceptional artistic work.Another work by the same artist – carved out of wood!

We had stopped here over the weekend – as we have driven by it hundreds of times!
Two entrances and finally I just turned in and followed the road for about a mile.
And then we were there – EAGLES NEST GOLF COURSE!
What we found out later – was this is the longest course in S.C.
and maybe the longest I have EVER played!
The back tee box – if you play that – the course is over 8200 yards long!
And full of beautiful scenes such as these!
There are many marsh areas such as this – did not see any snakes or gators!
It was more like this most holes!
We were teamed up with a father & son.
We introduced ourselves – we had not planned on playing with anyone.
But – after the first hole awkwardness
It turned into a fun day!
A view down the fairway!
I had watched my wife and how she was hitting.
I noted that she was doing everything right except two things!
I told her to tee her ball up a little back in her stance –
and to always tee it up the same height.
She was coming over the top on her ball – still hitting it good but not as far as she has.
This green – she hit the cart path – this hole for her was 299 yards – after I adjusted her stance and tee height – she ripped one down the right side and it hit the cart path and followed it toward the green – we searched and searched where we thought it had gone – the two guys we were with found it! It was laying just off the green on this side along the cart path. It had gone 299 yards!
And – I might add – she beat me by FIVE STROKES on the front nine!
So much for me showing her what to do! LOL!
After I showed her the adjustment – with her ladies tee – she was out driving the rest of us!
And she continued her good play – she also beat me the second nine!
Just a word to our friends – Cindy and Buck – the ladies have to give us strokes from now on! LOL
They are just too darn good!

Before I showed her a new stance – moving the ball back and then letting her swing take it!
I did not get a picture after – I was too busy trying to keep up with her shots! LOL
The start of the game – cold – 35 degrees – steady rain – SOCCER!
We traveled five hours NW to Va. to Lynchburg –
our grand daughters first home contest of the delayed season!
Maddy Myers – number 13 – waiting for the start of the game!
As a Freshmen – she played in 13 games – now a Sophomore –
the first game she had a assist and two near misses in a 2-0 victory!
Out family – father Mike – Mother Debby – sister Ella and grandma – Sherry – Ella will be attending Randolph College in the Fall to play soccer – right across town and will compete against her sister for two years!Hard to see but she is in the middle far side above the Y about to pass the ball!
She carries a HIGH GPA – and as a Sophomore – because of that GPA –
was able to have a room in the buildings right behind her!
She is a determined young lady – her last two years of travel –
she drove herself 65 miles each way so she could compete with the best in the
Metro D.C area in Loudoun County – a hot bed of recruiting for college soccer.
Steady rain – but we stayed watching her and the game.
The entire team waiting for the start of the game in the cold and rain!
Near the end of the game – a 4 to 1 victory and 2 – 0 on the young season!

Often times you look on the other side of the fence – and then there comes a time you get a chance to walk at a place that would look the same 300 years ago! Here is that place at the far end of Cherry Grove – S.C. where no houses are built – no piers or docks – just sand – ocean and trees and shrubs – a deserted beach!
This I think is what the coast line looked like long before the settlers came here. No buildings – just raw nature – surf – and sand!
First – you have to find the path through the trees and shrubs to get to the beach!
Finding a very large tree washed upon shore – perhaps 60 feet long!Sherry Tammy Cassidy Bode Taylor
Walking along the surf – no one in sight – imagining that this is how nature looked centuries ago!
And then we turn around and in the distance the pier – broken from the last major storm! Mother and daughters – solitude – listening to the surf – and time to turn around – head back to the houses.
In the background – the end of the buildings – the broken pier and a deserted beach – and looking ahead into nature what it looked like all those years ago. Tammy – Cassidy – Sherry (MorMor) Bode Taylor
This is a place where the past meets the future –
and we had the pleasure to bring the family
to see – hear and experience it!
Walking back to the future – Bode and MorMor!
Walking to the past from the future!

There is a place – next to the ICW – in Vereen Memorial Park – where you find a shell – date it and your name – hang it from a tree – and then make a wish – hundreds of the hang and this one is from our Taylor!
At ten years old – she already is five foot tall – she will someday be taller I think than her MorMor( Sherry) who is 5′ 9″ must be the Swede coming through!
I am little – some day I will be bigger – so she says – but every day she either calls or texts her MorMor ( Sherry ) and that sweet little soft voice – “I love you MorMor ” here she hangs her wish!
Cassidy showing her shell for a wish! I think she looks just like Taylor in this picture!
Bode – hanging his seashell wish – the only boy out of six grand children!
I have said – Cassidy and Bode should of been the twins – they are two peas in a pod!
Bode Taylor Cassidy
They came to spend a long weekend with us –
seeing where we live and where we are building our new home!
They were so excited – and hiking was on our things to do!
We had told them there was a place to make a wish and hang the shells from a tree!
But first you must search for the right shell
then date it and put your name on it!
MorMor – leading Taylor – Cassidy and Bode on a search for their own perfect sea shell!
MorMor(Sherry) inspecting each one as they bring them to her!
Tammy Taylor Cassidy MorMor standing in the seashell tree beach – overlooking the ICW!

It is with in mind – I record our lives one day at a time –
hence my blog: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog
In a little over one year – thanks to my wife Sherry –
I now have a following of 362 plus followers!
Of which I only know four of them!
The rest are from all over the USA and the WORLD!
Screen shot on a normal day – I never though this would happen – but I guess projecting good thoughts – happy family life and adventures of two 70 plus year old’s must appeal to people!
Sherry and Papa – (Tom) living our life one day at a time. Each day I am alive is a blessing! I do not take it for granted.
Sherry is the driving force behind my blog –
” YOU HAVE TO WRITE AND PUT IT SOMEWHERE – A PLACE WE CAN FIND – WHEN YOU ARE GONE”
That is the reality and I am okay with it!
I write for family – I write to record for future generations so they know who I was!
Each day I open the site – answer the comments and push on!
I include lots of pictures – they all tell a story.
Each day I start out not knowing what I will write about
I see a picture I have taken – a event we did – or where a day has taken us.
Then – I start – so far I have scheduled a month ahead in stories –
That way – is we are going someplace – all I have to do is share it to face book!
On here – it is automatically scheduled!
My hope and desire is to bring inner peace to those that read this – and to see – when adversity hits home – when death knocks on your door – there is a life beyond and each day is a blessing – one that had it gone the other way – well – I am happy it didn’t – and that is going to be my legacy – living life doing it my way – blog!
Alligator laying in the backyard of someones house! Across the water from the putting green!
Our friends – Jim – Dottie – Buck and Cindy – came for a visit!
And we planned to golf two different days!
The last day was at Oyster Bay – not very far from Calabash
The Seafood capital of the world
and home to many – many “GATORS” on the course!
BIG GATORS!
Jim & Buck
We had a gals vs guys match
and off we went –
I had listened to other players who had finished
talking to the starter about the “GATORS”
and how big they were!
Just laying there almost seemed it was dead until it moved its head!
We saw them a lot – esp. on the middle holes!
The ladies putting behind us – we were able to tell them where the “GATORS” were.
One par three – surrounded by water – except a small walking path
lined with flowers and tall bushes
kind of sketchy walking through there
had a drop zone right next to the green.
And a large sand trap.
Well – right next to the drop zone lay a six foot gator!
Dottie actually hit her ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the drop zone!
Where she left it for some future golfer to find as it ws too close
to that six foot gator!
We had a good time regardless –
you just did not look for golf balls as I think snakes are also here!
Me taking a picture of Jimmy taking a picture of two gators – one to his left and one to his right – the one on the left was very big!Cindy about to hit from the fairway – they are always in the middle which makes it so hard to beat them!Sherry lining up her putt – they also are always putting for either birdie or par!Jimmy hitting his Tee shot. Look close in the middle just between the fairway and trees – his ball going down the middle!Dottie playing her approach shot two strokes from there for par.The “GATOR” laying next to the sand trap and drop zone! They pared this hole!Beautiful but a lot of “GATORS” in there!People live here despite the “GATORS”!
We enjoyed this course despite the “GATORS”
being a fun course to play.
Lots of fairways and marsh – small lakes – water everywhere!
Again right down the middle! My co – pilot – Buck!

Sherry and Cindy – Dottie walked to her ball
And yes – on the course called OYSTER BAY!
With all the “GATORS”!
It came down to the last hole – number 18 !
We had a boggy – long par 5 – missed putt and they pared!
GALS ONE UP AFTER 18
35 to 36!
70 to 71 !!!!!
I told you Jimmy – they are too good!

All the grand kids and their parents with Sherry and myself.
When this picture was taken – the only thing we had planned
was for her 16th. birthday – we would take Ella to Florida with us for a week.
She would go to Hollywood studios to see Star Wars!
When each grand child turns 16 – we do something special with them.
Maddy wanted to swim with the Manatee’s and we did that!
Growing up in the ’60’s – we never imagined taking trips with grandparents – mine were all gone by the time I was 16!
As the year progressed – plans were made and soon – we would leave for one month in Florida.
But first – quality time with the young ones.
I will for the rest of life see this as MORMOR and Taylor – walking hand in hand to church!
Although now she is only ten years old – she comes up to just under Sherry’s chin.
She is going to be very tall and loves horse back riding!
2019 was also the year we had friends from AZ. come to visit – and accomplished crossing off everything on their bucket list to see in DC. This is a reflection of Sherry among the ghosts of the Korean War.
Many friends visited over the 21 years we lived outside D.C.
We acted as tour guides – and in the year past – we toured almost every facility
there was to visit including the Capital Building which was a first for us!
The year in review – blessings will continue in the next blog!
We also venture to outside Raleigh – N.C. to visit her sister.
Here – we went to a farm that had what are called BELTED COWS – GOATS & CHICKENS!
They are white with a black belt around the middle!
Never heard of this and never saw this before!
Standing outside the pen with the goats – chickens and cows at the BELTED FARM!
