In our younger years, growing up

One of my longtime best friends – Jimmy!

We grew up in the same little NWPA town called ELDRED!

Jim – up Barden Brook and me on North Main Street!

In the mid-70s, we played softball together-

And we also both worked for AOTC-DAL TILE!

We raised our kids and took vacations to the beach together.

Sherry – Jim and I all transferred to Va..

He to Va, Beach and us to NVA!

Today we are all retired and still try to get together several times a year.

We are all in N.C., although over three hours apart!

This was taken from our neighbor’s front yard.

Brambleton was full of folks who worked for the state and the federal government.

The couple who lived here –

She was a stay-at-home mom, and he was the Director of Counterintelligence Worldwide for the FBI.

He retired and moved away a few years before we did.

The Ocean Isle Beach pier!

We always dreamed of beach living.

While we are on the mainland –

We are close enough to drive anytime we wish-

And walk the sand and surf!

I remember vacations where I wished ed did not have to leave.

Those were wishful thoughts!

On the long drives back from vacations –

I always thought “ONE DAY”!

Now, when we walk or sit on the sand and listen to the surf-

And we ourselves watch as the vacation families change on check-out and check-in day-

We are now in our dream and happy place.

It is hard to believe that it was five years ago that we sold our forever home and moved South.

Today – this is our neighborhood.

Already, people have sold and moved on.

We have met new neighbors and said goodbye to old ones.

There are many second homes in this area.

Meaning the folks come and go each month.

But – except for trips back to see family-

We are the constants in what is now our retirement home.

Growing into this life –

Aging as healthily as we can.

My one thing I wanted in a new home!

A front porch where I could sit in the shade and watch and greet folks as they went by!

Our home is large enough to have folks and family stay –

Yet on one floor easy to maintain.

We have almost all of the landscaping the way we want it!

I no longer mow and trim –

But we grow plants and flowers and battle the Deer from eating them!

This is home – where we live.

Friends are nearby, and we see them all!

Friends for decades and decades!

We live but 38 miles from them, and we visit often back and forth, and play golf!

JULY – 2024- on OIB with family –

Celebrating our 75th birthdays.

We are now seniors in the years we have spent on this earth.

In our SENIOR years – we VOLUNTEER –

Once a month – for our church – Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church-

We volunteer for our church on Saturday-

At the Food Pantry!

Sometimes this also involves a Thursday night of packaging for Saturday morning.

Saturday usually goes from 8 am ( if I am on parking)to noon.

From mid-May to mid-October –

We volunteer for the Protection of-

Sea Turtles for Ocean Isle Beach!

During that time, one or both of us walk the East end of the beach for signs of a Sea Turtle laying her eggs.

Sherry is also on a 24-hour one day per week team verification .

At any time during that time period – (midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday)

She can and has been called out to find the nest and verify or move it according to the tide lines.

We also work to set up and take down for the weekly MONDAY TURTLE TALK!

We are on one of the teams that sit on the nests to monitor until they hatch!

We are also on standby if any team needs help!

Sherry works the booth at the Oyster festival to help raise money –

As we are a volunteer organization,

And need to raise funds to exist.

We also collect food at our Community Center to take to the food pantry.

We choose to live here because it is middle ground to two beaches-

Big box stores –

Where we lived for nine months in North Myrtle Beach.

Over thirty golf courses.

Entertainment and many fine places to eat and enjoy coastal views!

Oh, to have these days back again!

Here – the twins – Cassidy and Taylor –

Back when they dressed alike-

That is not the same today!

AIC- 6.7 ! I have to get it below 6.4!

GLUCOSE- 110 – I HAVE TO GET IT BELOW 100!

THYROID- 1.930 NORMAL!

This is a big part of our “DREAM” life!

The island of Ocean Isle Beach!

If you look at the picture –

On the mainland side –

Upper left center is two clearings in the forest.

We live close to the clearing to the left!

For us to get to the causeway bridge-

Is about four miles.

But that is not how the crow flies-

But the way the road goes.

If you could fly –

Then it would be about two miles!

Also on the mainland side –

Just before you enter the causeway bridge-

Upper right is a straight, cleared space running to the right.

This is the OIB airport-

Small planes –

I guess mostly used by wealthy owners who also store cars there for when they fly in!

On the center right –

Is the splash park – rides and area for children to play.

The open field and the amphitheater-

Is for summertime open-air free concerts!

This is for locals and weekly renters!

Oftentimes, this is also for events with music and vendors in the off-season.

And then a couple of miles Southwest is Sunset Beach.

That also has its own facilities that we enjoy!

The splash pad and tennis, basketball, and pickleball courts-

Covered pavilions for picnics.

This is all free to the public.

Restrooms are also here and are the town’s center for activities!

This is the stage for the Friday night free open-air concerts!

This was early, and it fills completely up by concert time.

This park sits right across from the mini-golf and our local hangout-

PELICANS PERCH and a new bar and restaurant –

THE SAND DOLLAR!

There are donuts, slushes, ice cream, and açai bowls to be had!

Shopping for beach items, and the pier is right across the street!

Ten minutes from our home, we are here.

Our dream was always to be close to the sand and water –

And we found it here –

Cameron Woods Community near Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Looking at the sunrise from the front of our home!

We built here because it was cheaper than buying and updating another home!

Plus – we have all our needs within 16 miles-

From entertainment to big box shopping.

Gas – groceries are but minutes from the house.

If we want city life, Wilmington is 45 minutes away.

And the airports in both directions are less than 60 minutes away.

The causeway bridge is in the background, and we watch the boats traveling on the ICW!

We have the best of both beach towns just minutes away!

Back on the rear landing in our house in Brambleton-

We had two of the four Towers-

We owned.

I put this landing in, and it was perfect for the Sun.

Until 1PM.-

It was in the Sun.

We also had one in the enclosed patio and one in the garage with grow lights.

That gave us all year-round-

Fresh home-grown veggies!

I would dismantle three outside units and use only the one in the garage –

With the grow lights!

These two we sold with the house when we moved.

We moved the one in the garage with us,

And it has been year-round outside on our back patio!

Every six months,

we take it apart and clean it.

It is calming to know what you eat and no pesticides.

My good thought for the day!

Pandemic-2020-COVID-no-one- to cut my hair!

My hair is naturally curly –

Sometimes with the wild, wind-swept look!

Everything, as far as haircuts, had closed up during the early Pandemic.

Papa’s World – Surviving a WIDOW MAKER HEART ATTACK – 56 hours after open-heart surgery!

Sherry and Papa – this Valentine’s day.

All my life up to 16 years ago – I was a junk food addict!

I thought I was fit – playing sports until my late 40’s!

I ate all the time at McDonald’s – then something changed my life.

Sherry went to NBC for your health in Washington D.C.

I also went to the food court!

That is where she found a supplement that changed both our lives.

At first, I denied I needed it – then three months later I started to take it-

FRUITS AND VEGGIES AND BERRIES – JUICED – DRIED TO POWDER AND PUT IN CAPSULES!

NUTRIENTS OF 30 DIFFERENT KINDS EACH DAY!

It slowly over the years changed my life – I felt better – BUT – unknown to me – I had damaged my heart

from all those years ( 40 plus ) eating junk food and drinking cokes – mountain dew and gallons of milk.

I thought that was good for me.

EIGHT YEARS AFTER I STARTED ON THE SUPPLEMENT – I had a WIDOWMAKER HEART ATTACK!

FOUR ARTERIES INVOLVED – I almost did not make it!

I was rushed from work to the hospital where I had one artery 100 % blocked –

They put a stent in and the PAIN went away – but I was told I had three more that needed to be done!

It was too dangerous – I would have to have an open heart and four by-passes!

ONE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

All this time I never missed a day of my supplements – even when I went into the hospital.

Over 40 published types of research from major institutions from all over the world – convinced me that I was doing something right and not to give it up!

So – on a Monday morning – at 7:30 AM – they started – by 3:00 pm. they closed me up!

At 5:30 pm. they called my wife and daughters.

By 6:30 pm. I was standing!

I never went to the step down – I went straight to my room –

And I was told by the nurses and doctors I was the healthiest heart patient they had ever seen!

They wanted me to do an interview for some kind of research but I declined.

Here I am – 56 hours later standing in front of the Christmas tree – I was home!

I had a 100% – 90% – 60% and 40% blockages. I walked the halls in less than 20 hours –

Everyone told me they had no one like that – I went home and the other people who had surgery

that day were still in the step-down units.

Sherry and Papa – I had a nuke stress test late Jan. I passed with an excellent grade.

I just had all my blood tests – everything was very good – I STILL TAKE MY SUPPLEMENT

of 30 fruits – veggies and berries and now OMEGAS!

Papa’s World – Better Health and weight loss!

My journey to better health and trying to maintain and lose weight is years into a better life journey!

All my life I have battled the weight gained – even staying at the same weight is very hard for me!

On top of all that – I am diabetic – and have to watch the sugars – starches –

I am on Metformin – and currently at 6.7% ALC and Glucose at 115!

My GP wants me “DOWN” to 6.5 or below and Glucose under 100!

On the Plus side – my Cholesterol is 108 – my Triglycerides – are 81 and HDL – is 33.

My VDL Cholesterol is 10 – my LDL Cholesterol is 59 and my LDL Cholesterol is 59!

My weight as of this blog is up and down – 189.6 lbs. to 192.4 lbs. every day!

NOTE: I graduated from H.S. in 1967 at 195 lbs.

I see my GP every four months for blood tests – I consume hardly any sugars –

I do not like hard candy and if I have cake – I do not eat the frosting!

I have for almost nineteen years taken a Food Supplement called JUICE PLUS.

This is where every day I get absorbed into my bloodstream –

nutrients from 30 different FRUITS – VEGETABLES and BERRIES!

All are grown on their own controlled farms with no pesticides.

I also take every day OMEGAS – four different kinds from ALGAE and not fish –

grown on The JUICE PLUS farms – no toxics or fish oil or mercury.

My journey is ongoing – each day – my day starts with coffee – one cup –

yes, I know caffeine may not be beneficial – so I limit it – I drink water the rest of the day.

NO SODA – NO DAIRY(milk) – very little butter or oils,

And I have cut drinking down to be – well – if we are by ourselves weeks at a time – no alcohol.

Going out by ourselves – maybe a draft beer – but most of the time water or unsweetened tea.

Even getting together with neighbors or friends – I have tended not to drink.

I also drink a SHAKE every day if I can – made out of COMPLETE – a product of JUICE PLUS.

A powder – French Vanilla or Dutch Chocolate –

I add crushed ice – water and a cup of Almond milk.

Put it in a blender and mix until the ice is gone –

This I substitute for a breakfast or lunch meal.

It gives me plant-based protein and a host of nutrients.

Eating as healthy as I can has given me control over my weight gain and loss each day.

In the four years I have done this on my own –

I have gone from 205 lbs. to the current 189.6 lbs. thru the 192.4 lbs. daily.

A gradual decline over the years.

This formula has worked for me in keeping it off and of course, there are times I treat myself!

Going out to eat – I almost always look for salads and add on of chicken or salmon.

But – there are times I splurge and cheat a little!

With friends cheating with ICE CREAM which I love – but this is rare –

My journey is my own – with help from my wife Sherry who also has her own journey of better health.

She is a tall woman – and watches what she eats every day and also for almost nineteen years-

has taken the health Supplements of Juice Plus and Omegas.

She also does a shake every day and a drink she makes to clean out the impurities – cleansing as she calls it – from both of our bodies.

We are both 75 years old – living life to the plus one day at a time.

My hope is this can bring hope to those who struggle every day being a part of the Baby Boomers –

and SENIOR population!

Dreams – mother and daughters share the DREAM!

They laugh – cry – hold one another – all the while sharing life together – even though they are 300 miles apart

The bond exists each and every day!

Debby – the oldest – Sherry – known as Grandma and MorMor – Tammy – the youngest.

When we decided to move to NVA in 1999 – Tammy decided right away to follow us down to Va.

In one years time – Debby moved with her husband and small one year old daughter Maddy!

They have always been near each other – 3 hours away and no further.

Sherry decided to become a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and start her own business from home –

As a away to supplement her retirement income – it worked and she retired early!

Network marketing – in HEALTH and NUTRITION!

Today – that business thrives and allows us the freedom to travel –

move and build a new home.

In that same since – 15 years ago – Debby decided to do the same – with two young children –

And moving out to the country as it was cheaper to live – she also followed her mothers footsteps!

She became a CERTIFIED HEALTH COACH – and started her own business from home –

And surpassed her mother!

Today – they both lead “TEAM GENERATIONS” – promoting health and nutrition for families and children.

During that time – Tammy married – had twin girls and then our first grandson!

She also followed her mother into the Health and Nutrition field – establishing her own home based business.

Along the way she quit her job and opened up a Upscale children’s consignment shop –

And it is because she is her mother’s daughter!

We arrived – The Make A Wish Tree area –

The girls were excited – because we told them – their cousins had been there

a couple weeks prior!

We showed them the sea shells they had made and signed!

So they went about finding shells!

So may shells to look at!

They took their time – looking with the help of their parents and Sherry!

Papa’s World – five and one half years – MPI TEST

My heart attack occurred on 11-4-13 –

beginning a new life.

GOOD MORNING

My last visit to my heart doctor –

He told me it was time to have Myocardial Perfusion Imaging test.

We would schedule it before my next appointment –

Yesterday – at 7:15 am. it began.

For the next 3 to 4 hours –

I was undergoing scans – injections –

Blood pressure readings –

treadmill and more injections and scans.

MY WIFE AND ADVOCATE

The injections were a Nuclear medicine –

to go into the heart through a IV –

and then 18 minutes of scanned picture taking while being absolutely still.

SO CAN NUCLEAR TESTS

I was worried –

first – I do not like needles –

and to have something like that injected into your artery !!!

You sign a form –

some side effects may be HEART ATTACK or DEATH !

OR REMAIN POSITIVE & TRUST IN GOD

The TREAD MILL – I was all hooked up –

I had to hit a heart rate of 129 to 150 –

IT TOOK TEN MINUTES

and they increased the incline and speed every three minutes.

Had I been in a car instead of the tread mill –

I would of done just that !

I DO NOT RUN –

I DO NOT LIKE TO RUN –

I HURT MYSELF WHEN I RUN !

In the ten minutes I was on there –

I DID ONE MILE !

LORD HELP ME !!!

The last 2 .5 minutes were at a 4.2 minute mile !

I am 70 years old –

dancing is more my speed !

When I had cooled down –

she told me –

your treadmill for your age

IS VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT !!!!!

My prayers were answered –

I did not slip off –

I hung on –

And I finished it !

ME

I had to go back a second time for a scan –

and then sit and wait.

Before I started – they told me –

if anything is wrong –

you will go upstairs

If it is all right – you go home –

I WENT HOME – all clear !

MY WHY

On the way home – they called me –

They had read the scans –

they could see the OLD HEART ATTACK –

THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANYTHING ELSE HAPPENING !!

I was clear –

my cholesterol at my last test – 118 !!!!

WHY – WHAT -and HOW ?

WHY ?

My wife Sherry and following her schedule – and JUICE PLUS !

Those are my TWO REASONS WHY –

WHAT – healthy eating

and my supplement –

ORCHARD – GARDEN – VINEYARD and OMEGA’S

Five and one half years after my WIDOW MAKER –

I am clear –
