Papa’s World – Pictures of great memories.

A memory of when we lived in Brambleton, VA.

This is in a tunnel we used to go under a major highway on one of our walks.

The whole tunnel had these chalk drawings from an unknown artist.

I have often wondered if they are still there!

PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

Interesting in two ways.

The first is that this is the school I attended until the fifth grade!

The first four years of my grade school were spent here.

Then, three school districts combined –

A new elementary school opened, and additions to the high school in Duke Center were completed.

This building was then abandoned and eventually torn down. The second reason is that I spent my entire work life in American Olean Tile – Dal Tile!

Forty-seven and a half years.

We made ceramic tile like this in one of our other factories.

Which leads me to wonder who made this and what connection they had to Eldred, Pa.?

PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

Making lasting memories at our new home!

Cameron Woods Community –

We call this home now-

Our dreams of living near the beaches have come true-

Making PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

Ocean Isle Beach on the East end.

In the distance, LITTLE RIVER and CHERRY GROVE – NORTH MYRTLE BEACH

We are only 6 or 7 miles from the border of S.C.

Every day – PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

I think Bode is between Maddy on the left and Ella next to her!

This was taken back in Brambleton, VA.

On the side of the house in the lawn.

We lived in this house, which we had built for fourteen and a half years.

Papa’s World – Pictures of the place I grew up- the early years of ELDRED!

Back in the late teens?

A parade to honor a WWI veteran killed in action.

This is Main Street looking South.

The false fronts of stores –

Some remained as I was growing up in the 50s and 60s!

The big building at the top right was a hotel –

I never saw that as I was growing up

And was a brick Chevy dealership called Burrs-

Where I worked the summer between my Junior and senior years!

That also has been demolished, and a bank is there today.

An early view of the ball park and town.

I assume this to be the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Many of these buildings were gone by the time I was born in 1949!

The ballpark was way different when I was growing up!

A chain mail fence and a road ran alongside the first baseline.

Tall telephone poles with lights surrounded the field, and it was groomed to perfection.

The diamond itself was set back toward the right?

The outfield – we would meet and play tackle football.

There were tennis courts and a basketball court.

The park behind the home plate had restrooms and swings –

a small merry-go-round and a large covered pavilion-

slide and huge old maple trees.

A creek called Barden Brook ran down the side of the field to the Alleghany River.

Later, the Army Corps of Engineers made it underground because of the annual flooding!

Every Spring, it seemed we had water on Main Street.

Here are pictures from 1889!

In 1972, Hurricane Agnes dropped so much rain-

That up to 12 to 15 feet of water submerged MAIN STREET!

It was after that, years later –

The Army Corps of Engineers developed a dike system –

And I believe it solved the flooding problem.

Here is the busy main street of Eldred, Pa.

I grew up here much later than this picture.

Many businesses had moved to other locations by then.

This is looking toward South Main Street,

And those trees were still there as I was growing up!

The Gustafsons’ drug store had moved to the left-

And that building became Todd’s Ford dealership

We had Ford, Chevy, and Dodge car dealerships in town when I was growing up.

This was the fire department as I grew up.

I could see it from the sidewalk in front of my home.

It was here that I took the hunter safety course upstairs!

We had a 10 o’clock curfew –

The fire siren would blow then every night-

And I believe it to be that way now.

All kids had to be off the streets when the siren blew.

We would sleep outside overnight-

And the worst we ever did was raid gardens after curfew.

I hope you enjoy this blog –

My next blog will also be on Eldred, Pa.

Papa’s World – Living in Cameron Woods Community!

Our community center in Cameron Woods is beautiful.

It contains a kitchen-workout room with machines.

A fireplace and a TV-

With couches and chairs.

A dining room table –

Two bathrooms.

A really large screened-in toom with ceiling fans and teak wood tables and chairs!

A large pool that has an entry-level flat area and steps down into deeper water.

At its deepest point is five feet.

Decorated and set up for a Kentucky Derby party.

Around 40 to 50 neighbors showed up for a bring-a-dish – dessert –

Lots of fun and excitement.

CAMERON WOODS COMMUNITY CENTER!

A bright spot in our community –

The pool opens late April and goes to maybe the end of October.

Sunrise on our street from our front porch.

Sunset on our street from our front driveway.

Late Fall – Solo Stove campfire from our back patio with the Sunset!

Most of our community is retired –

Or working from home.

A great many –

This is their second home.

We are close to the beaches –

And shopping, and golf.

There are a few resale homes –

Mostly one level-

Three bedrooms-

And two baths.

Two-car garages and lots of protected areas.

Normally around 1700 to 2000 SF.

We found our little piece of paradise by accident.

And we are so blessed –

To be here.

CAMERON WOOD COMMUNITY –

So close to OCEAN ISLE BEACH and toes in the sand.

FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS – AGING HEALTHY AS SENIORS!

http://www.sfitzsimmons.juiceplus.com

Papa’s World – Memorable times – PICTURES!

Start your day –

My blog is a journal of times – pictures of family – friends.

Memories captured for the next generations.

Have a brew – and enjoy!

This picture is the EAST END of OCEAN ISLE BEACH!

While beautiful –

I look at it and think about how vulnerable it is to storms and hurricanes.

This huge rock wall was put in a few years ago to stop the erosion of the beach.

It is referred to as
“THE GROIN”!

Looking at the picture, to the left on the beach –

Following the line of houses –

You can tell that FIRST and SECOND streets have already been washed away in previous years.

The street to the right is Third Street.

That whole expanse of beach was dredged up from the channel and blown in to make the beach!

The water was high tide up and under those houses.

Huge sand-filled bags lined the edges of the houses to protect them.

Since this was done –

The erosion now is on the East side of the rocks.

We have walked the East end, and the eroded banks are higher than my head.

Dead trees now lie in the surf.

The entire area has changed for the worse.

I fear a major storm will wipe it out and allow the surf to roll across to the ICW!

The main bridge over the ICW is called the causeway bridge by the locals.

This is the center of the town and the island.

Here are the shops, the park, and the pier.

Restaurants and bars.

It is a beautiful place by the ocean –

And about a ten-minute drive without traffic for us.

We are on the mainland side –

The ICW is between us and the island.

About two miles of mainland separates us from the ICW!

Our street looks WEST in the first picture and EAST in the second picture.

Because of the curvature of the coastline –

From Charleston to Wilmington –

Our back of the house faces South, and the front faces North.

We are also close to two other beaches – Holden Beach to the EAST and Sunset Beach to the West.

Oak Island is about 30 miles away.

We are close to North Myrtle Beach – 16 miles- Myrtle Beach – about 30 miles.

And Southport, Shallotte, and Wilmington to the North.

Calabash and Little River are about six to eight miles away.

We have four grocery stores close by –

Two Food Lions, a Publix, and a Lowe’s.

Big BOX STORES are within 15 to 30 minutes, and Home Depot and Lowe’s.

Our church, Saint Luke’s Lutheran, is about ten minutes away.

We selected this area because of the golf, beaches, shopping, entertainment, and gas stations.

Our community is not as clear-cut as others around us.

We have protected areas.

If you look at the previous pictures of EAST and WEST on our street –

You can see the trees!

We have very tall pine trees and live oaks all around us.

It is a quiet community –

Neighbors are out and about walking by the front porch.

We know way more people here than where we moved from-

Which we called a GARAGE DOOR COMMUNITY!

The door goes up – people leave – it goes down.

And the opposite, when they return, and you seldom see them.

AGING INTO AND LIVING OUR SENIOR YEARS AS HEALTHY AS WE CAN.

Papa’s World – Free open air concerts!

Summertime here in the OIB and Sunset Beach areas brings sweet music!

Wednesdays and Fridays are concert times at the beach!

Sunset Beach is at the park gazebo on the mainland side.

Every Wednesday at 6:30 PM, weather permitting.

All you need is a chair and whatever you want to drink- NO GLASS!

Fridays are at OIB – in the park near the beach.

Again – bring a chair and whatever you want to drink – NO GLASS!

And all free!

Other communities around here do the same, only on different days, and most may be a couple of weeks in between.

The following is our first concert of the year –

First week of June at OIB Park.

The park is huge – all fenced in with a large covered stage and playground, and splash pad at one end.

There is a covered picnic area –

Splash pad – and a really nice playground, and Bocce court and basketball-pickleball court!

Behind me is the splash pad –

The artificial turf playground and Italian ice cart!

There are shaded beaches all around the park.

A stone brick walkway and some have names from donors!

There is room on the lawn for hundreds of chairs and people.

The park is right in the middle –

Close to the pier – the roundabout circle-

And across the street to Pelican Perch and a new bar and eatery called The Sand Dollar!

The top Carolina Beach Bands are booked through September.

And it is all free to the public-

The vacationers can end their week on the beach-

With a Friday night concert.

Sometimes, when a well-known beach band is here –

It will get very crowded and take time getting on and off the island.

But so goes summertime concert beach music.

Sunset Beach is different in that it is on the mainland at a beautiful OAK TREE park-

With beautiful views of the ICW!

You mostly sit under huge shaded oak trees –

The gazebo is huge, and people sit all around it and also on the grass lawn by the water.

The concert season runs in the same months and is free!

HEALTHY AGING FOR TWENTY YEARS!

http://www.sfitzsimmons.juiceplus.com

Papa’s World – In my senior year-car accident!

I was just 17 years old – my senior year in High School-

September of 1966!

The Friday before, I had played a football game –

My positions – left guard on offense and monster on defense-

(roving linebacker).

I had just eaten supper –

My mother had made homemade potato soup!

She was an excellent cook and baker!

I was going to drive toward the state line to meet up with my girlfriend-

And go someplace – I don’t remember where.

My ride was a SIMCA –

Imagine a squared-off Volkswagen!

Robin egg blue with a manual five-speed on the floor.

Getting it up to the speed limit was not easy!

The top speed was maybe 60 mph on the best days!

It was a square tin box on wheels!

Sitting in the driver’s seat, I almost could touch the passenger side door with my outstretched arm.

But – to me – it was easier than hitchhiking, which I had done numerous times-

Both during the day and at night!

I started the trip toward the NYS line, about four or five miles away, to where she lived.

On the outskirts of town by the Kendal Bridge-

A car coming toward me really fast went buzzing by!

I remember this because they were on the center line –

And in my mind, I still see the woman-

She was sitting with her feet up on the dashboard while her husband was driving!

I later found out they had gone through town and turned around by Burrs garage.

I still have my long-term memory and find that writing blogs is for me a training exercise –

In retaining that memory!

Eldred, Pa., in the 1900s – there is a tall white building in the upper center-

I lived just to the left, several houses back from that church.

Those hills were toward NYS –

And where would I have the accident!

I had run through all five gears and was doing 45 to 50 miles per hour.

There was a corner just before my girlfriend’s home –

And about 150 yards to her home.

I started to downshift –

And put my turn signal to turn left.

My intent was to turn left and park facing the opposite direction –

So when leaving, we would be heading back toward town.

I was in second gear –

And I had crossed the white line – no cars were coming towards me, and it was a good three-quarter mile straight away!

All of a sudden, from behind me came that car that had passed me going into town!

They came around that corner, and I was on the left lane, and it hit me –

The right fender of his car hit the door behind my seat!

That little car I drove had no seat belts.

His fender came through the door and hit the back of my seat.

The seat was pushed into the steering wheel-

Having no seat belts saved my life.

I was thrown across the gear shit – and my back was against tihe other passenger door.

My legs were still on the clutch and gas pedal

We went all the way across the lane –

Onto the berm and about 100 feet into the mailbox.

The windows exploded, and I was covered in glass.

I looked directly at them, and she still had her feet up on the dashboard.

My girlfriend’s mother came running across the road and opened the door that my back was against.

I somehow got my feet over the stick shift and out of the door.

I tried to stand, but my hips just sort of swayed sideways!

So I sat down in the seat and wondered –

“I passed that car- they were going really fast – they had gone through town –

and turned around and back – and somehow in the four miles caught me and –

slammed into me while I was in the other lane”?

They must have been going really fast!

The ambulance arrived, and I was taken to Olean General Hospital.

I could not stand or walk.

I had this pain in my lower belly –

They took X-rays –

My Pelvis was broken –

And the urethral tube from my bladder had been torn apart!

I was bleeding inside!

My thoughts after the accident.

They put a Catheter in –

Blood immediately filled the glass jug –

I was scared –

IV and blood were hooked up.

It ended up for 41 days!

I was put flat on a bed with traction under my hips-

Ropes along both legs and wrapped –

These ropes were attached to weights hanging from a contraption –

Rigged up over my bed.

I could be slightly elevated by the upper part of the bed.

I lay this way for 51 days!

I did not know if I would ever walk again.

I continued my studies for my senior year in that bed.

Being released in November.

I went home in a wheelchair.

During that time, I found out my girlfriend was pregnant.

We were married – I in a wheelchair.

My parents had a hospital bed put in the living room.

I slept there – she slept upstairs.

This is my eldest son, Troy, who was born after the accident in early January 1967.

Of all that happened, he became a bright star for me.

I was reclassified for the draft!

We were in the middle of “NAM”!

I could not walk, and no longer could I be drafted!

I was in a wheelchair for three months-

Then, on crutches, I had to learn to walk again.

Then, with a cane and I walked for graduation.

I am forever grateful for the support I had from loved ones.

All my school classmates who came to see me-

Some helped me in my lessons.

I graduated from H.S. – married with a son.

College was not an option,

but I was blessed in that neither was Vietnam!

Today I am fine –

But this memory lingers on as just like it were yesterday.

I can still see it in my mind.

Papa’s World – Our home THEN and NOW!

In 2020, we signed a contract to build a house in Cameron Woods Community!

The build went to July 1st. -2021 – and we closed the next day after a walk-through!

In this picture –

We went a couple of times a week to see the progress.

We were leasing a condo in Ocean Keyes in North Myrtle Beach.

Sixteen miles away in S.C.,

The view we had from the full across the front lanai –

Fourth-floor condo overlooking a huge lake with six water fountains.

From here we had a half-mile walk within Ocean Keyes-

To reach the back entrance and walk two blocks to the beach entrance!

At a time in the past, this was a golf course-

Called “THE OLD GATOR HOLE”!

Now it has six pools, tennis courts, a workout area –

And 780 condos!

If there were garages –

We might have considered retiring here!

But- we chose our current location across the border in OIB, NC.

As an upgrade, we had irrigation installed.

We chose many upgrades and ended up one level –

Three bedrooms and two baths.

A two-car garage, a patio out back, and an enclosed lanai.

A separate laundry room and an office.

Our lot backed onto a protected wildlife zone!

We now live a few miles from this beach – OIB- across the causeway bridge and the ICW!

I wanted a front porch to sit on in the shade!

Sherry wanted an enclosed office!

My favorite spot to sit and converse with neighbors walking by!

We now watch the sunrise from that porch and the sunsets!

We have had all the landscaping done –

Including planting of Crepe Myrtles and Palm Trees in the back yard and front yard.

Off the back patio –

The family enjoys the Solo Stove fire.

Sunset with the Solo Stove and family!

Papa’s World – The ARTISTIC works of SARAH!

Sarah – our granddaughter –

Stands below one of two murals at James Wood High School in Winchester, Va.

Both are her works of art.

She was selected for the celebration –

of the 75th. anniversary of the High School.

In this design, on the left is the H.S. in 1950.

In the middle right is the new design of the H.S.

The original is still in existence,

being used as a middle school.

Now, she also had her art selected as the cover of the commencement program.

Here is her art – left half

As the school stood in 1950, with her friends placed in the parking lot.

The right half is the H.S. in 2025 – parking lot with her friends and her white car –

And in honor of her father –

Placed his car next to hers.

She is extremely gifted as an artist!

Below is the last picture broken down into sections.

She has a gift!

And each person in this mural is a friend of hers.

I asked her,

and she replied she did most of this freehand!

Some more of her artistic work.

She blossomed in her senior year –

I do not think she realizes just how gifted she is in the art world.

In any direction from our front porch –

We could find a different trail to walk.

Here is a side trail that we would take-

Just to walk out to the viewing gazebo overlooking one of the many ponds.

Brambleton, Va., is a huge development that has been building for 25 years.

Situated on the backside of the Dulles International Airport-

Thousands of acres of former farmland –

It was turned into a community.

When we left, there were FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS!

Since we left, they completed a 250-acre park of soccer fields –

Ball diamonds –

Cricket fields –

Basketball and tennis courts.

And more walking trails.

Walking for health.

On this walk, we had to go underground –

Tunnels were completed to cross underneath major highways.

Before we left –

A CHALK ARTIST had drawn pictures in one of the many tunnels.

The tunnels are well lit for seeing –

I hope they remain –

A lot of good work is here!

The tunnels run under four-lane highways!

This is one of many tunnels located throughout the larger community!

We lived here for 14 1/2 years!

The artwork is amazing, and I often wonder if it is still there!

Today, we walk in another community-

Or the beach, or trips to NMB to walk at Barefoot Landing.

Broadway on the Beach in Myrtle Beach.

Papa’s World – Living life with memories!

Living in the OIB area –

In fall, winter, and spring –

I am often asked how the weather is and if it is cold.

Now, I do not like the cold.

I want no part of snow or ice!

And I lived in the snow belt of WNY for 50 years!

So, in this area, by dressing warm on a 50-degree day –

I SURVIVE!

I walk the beach as long as the wind is not strong-

The sand hitting your face is not pleasant.

As you see in this picture –

While it may be warm to other people-

I still dress warmly!

We chose this area because we still get four seasons-

Four seasons that can be warm.

This gives me LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

I hope this blog provides you with the above!

Papa sharing a moment with Ella-

Who I called tiny while she was growing up!

Today, she is as tall as I am!

She has graduated from college and is a certified PHYSED teacher-

For small children!

Kids love her!

When she was small –

She would crawl over to my leg-

Tug on my pants, and I would pick her up and hold her.

Today, she tugs at my heart –

How I’m so proud of her.

This gives me LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

When friends gather for a meal!

Bob, Pam, Sherry, and Diane.

Soon they will be here for a one-year lease.
Bob and Pam are testing out the area to see if they like it.

They have been in an RV for over six years.

This will give me more LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

This provides more LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

Now, she is a Phys-ed teacher to small children.

LOOKING BACK – seems she has come full circle!

We have planted a lot of trees-

In our lives together.

At almost every home we have lived in –

We left something to which we can claim –

Has enriched the property.

“LOOKING BACK” on our lives together!

Buck and Jim have been my friends for decades and decades.

Neighbor to Buck and growing up with Jim.

“LOOKING BACK” on everlasting friendships.

“LOOKING BACK” –

We live our lives like this.

Volunteering at Coastal Living –

Volunteering for the local food pantry at the church.

Volunteering for the Protection of Sea Turtles!

“LOOKING BACK” has given us a purpose in our senior years.

Looking back – friendships –

Papa’s World – More moments in TIME!

Here is a view of Eldred. Pa. in the 1900s.

In the middle, the upper is a white church that I bought and made into apartments in the 80s.

In the middle of the picture to the right –

Is the baseball field without the tall telephone pole lights,

Or the basketball and tennis courts.

To the left,

The middle is the area where the elementary school was built –

I attended the fifth and sixth grades.

Beyond the mountains in the upper middle is NYS!

I lived just a couple of houses down on the left side of the white church.

Left center is a large brown building known as Walker’s Machine Shop.

A path ran on the other side through tall pine trees –

and came out into the backyard of my grade-high school buddy, Bobby!

The hill to the right I called BLUEBERRY HILL, and would take cardboard-

And slide down the hill.

It changed from this to what I remembered growing up!

But here is a look back in time before I was born!

A much earlier view of Eldred, Pa., from a different angle.

The Alleghany River runs through the flat land with trees –

And flows North into NYS until it finally turns South-

To Pittsburgh, Pa.

Twice in my early years –

I canoed down that river –

Once with a group that was called THE EXPLOYERS-

An organization beyond the Boy Scouts!

And a second time with our church youth group.

Growing up, it seemed every Spring brought a flood from that river.

Then after the ’72 flood-

Improved flood protection was put in by the Army Corps of Engineers.

I believe this solved the flooding problem.

Growing up, this was the school, grades 1 through 12.

I went four years here, and my last class was on the bottom floor-

I think the set of windows to the left – fourth grade.

I walked from the North end of town to here.

A mile, perhaps?

The HS kids were on the upper floors.

Many fond memories in this building.

Recess was out front, playing in the huge yard with large trees.

The Oak Hill Cemetery was beyond this building on the other side.

And I can remember riding sleds in the snow down that hill.

These are MORE MOMENTS IN TIME FOR ME!

In Myrtle Beach,

There is a Restaurant –

that has been there for decades.

Originally built as a home in 1930-

It now serves the best seafood I have ever eaten.

Seen from the parking lot across the main street-

It does not look big –

But it is huge on the inside.

There are many large rooms and levels inside.

It sits beachfront –

And the staff is dressed to the hilt.

Our friend and neighbor –

Diane invited us as a way-

to celebrate our friendship of four years.

Her husband Steve –

Passed away in January and was a good friend.

She told us she wanted to take us to a special place-

And this was excellent.

We ate inside as it was windy on the outside patio.

We all ordered the fish off the varied menu.

I had GRILLED – FLOUNDER and SHRIMP and a BAKED POTATO.

I have to say – there was no leftover for me or Sherry or Diane-

Who both ordered two items different from me.

After dinner –

We made our way to the beach.

Here you can see the back and just how large the building is.

Deceptive from the front –

Excellent food and service.

Papa’s World – It is great to be alive!

Good day, friends!

In 2013, I had a major heart attack –

Called a “WIDOW MAKER”!

In fact, that day I should have died!

So, I can attest that every day since –

“IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE!

My wife, Sherry, has guided me all these past years.

She is a Certified Health Coach.

I have changed my diet –

Quit fast food –

I do not drink sodas or milk.

I have one cup of coffee each morning-

I drink mostly water.

I really do not like alcohol or wine.

On occasion,

I will have a beer or two, but no more than that.

I will have a Complete shake around ten or eleven.

And a snack then.

I will eat dinner around 4 or 5.

And sometimes a light snack around 7.

At 8pm. I will get ready to go to bed.

After four hours,

I woke up after midnight –

Bathroom break,

And then I post my blog to Facebook-

and go back to bed.

I wake up around 5 or 5:30 am.

Shower – shave – brush teeth and get dressed.

I keep a calendar and write down appointments –

Also, Sherry’s as I have become in retirement –

“DRIVING MISS SHERRY”!

We both attend to the flowers, bushes – Tower Garden.

And we like to golf.

Maybe every two or three weeks.

Sometimes it is that good shot that brings me back –

Here, I ended up on the fringe of the green.

For me, that is good! LOL!

Since we live close to two beaches –

We often drive over the causeways and park.

We walk down to the surf line –

Or just sit on a bench and look out over the ocean.

It is a great day to be alive!

Sherry and I often drive over the causeway bridge –

To the island of OCEAN ISLE BEACH.

For us,

this is a ten-minute drive at the most!

We pick and choose where to park –

But this year,

paid parking-

goes into effect.

We bought a season parking pass at the pier.

That will limit in season –

where we park and walk on the beach.

In the off-season –

NO PROBLEM!

In this picture –

We choose to walk on the SW end of the beach-

The pier is NE of where we went on the beach.

It was a warm day in mid-March-

close to 70 plus degrees.

And in the sun with no wind –

Quite comfortable.

Even saw people in bathing suits lying in the sun!

The surf on the beach when the family was here!

Here we walk the beach at Sunset Beach – Bird Island in March.

Papa’s World – A time in pictures!

One of my favorite things to do –

Is going shopping with Sherry –

At the “OUTLETS” –

in Myrtl Beach, S.C.

Here, I purchase a Starbucks coffee-

And find a place to sit in the sun-

Sip my coffee –

While people watching –

Until she finishes a certain area for shopping-

And then we move on to another area!

That way, I get to do what I want to do-

And she can shop to her heart’s content! LOL!

HERE ANOTHER TIME IN A PICTURE!

Cindy and Sherry –

Went to an antiques vendor fair in Myrtle Beach.

Just to see if anything caught their eyes!

It didn’t!

But they had a great day together while Buck and I watched TV at home.

Here, they took a picture together –

Another TIME IN A PICTURE!

MY GOOD THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY!

This picture was drawn by Cassidy when she was 11 years old.

When they were staying here for a week in Summer-

She just sat down at the kitchen island and drew this!

I had to frame it!

HERE ANOTHER TIME IN A PICTURE-PICTURE!

If you are ever in North Myrtle Beach –

A bucket list item to see –

Walk through the “JUKE BOX” doors –

Into the WORLD OF SHAG DANCING!

This area is known as the “SHAG DANCING” capital of the world.

And has been for almost 80 years!

The dance is famous all over the world –

Papa’s World – House of Plants – Sherry!

Outside – and when it is extremely cold – we bring it into the lanai! CACTUS!

Sherry has many plants in the house and on the lanai.

Last year, we were walloped by Deer eating flowers, buds, and leaves.

Moving plants around –

trying to hide them from the Deer.

These plants are mostly indoor plants.

They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors!

This one was her mother’s!

We brought it to our home after she passed.

Today, it spends most of its time in the enclosed Lanai!

There are many Christmas Cactus plants –

And they flower at different times of the year.

Ochrid and Christmas Cactus –

They bring a smile to my life when I see them every day!

She has a green thumb for her plants –

I do not water them –

She has a schedule,

and it is best I do not interfere!

The plants in the house bring joy –

Papa’s World – Some humor and good vibes.

A little humor this morning –

I on the one hand –

wake up almost every morning at the same time.

Very seldom do I just roll over and continue to sleep –

Unless there is a Thunder and rain storm.

That seems to make me just lay there –

Listen to it and drop off to sleep once more!

LOL – some smiles for today!

For me – this is so true.

That is why I buy a higher beach chair.

I do not want people to see me rolling off to my knees-

and attempting to get up! LOL

Sharing a GOOD VIBE for the start of your day!

This most likely is me!

And it is true! LOL!

In a time not so far away –

In the VILLAGES playing golf.

MISS THIS!

If I could turn back time-

Our twin granddaughters-

who will turn 15 on their next birthday-

Playing hide and seek with PAPA!

Along with the Deer and Racoons –

Papa’s World – Before Enviromental Science-she was a soccer player.

Our oldest granddaughter Maddy –

Collecting seashells along the ICW.

She graduated two years ago with a degree in Environmental Science.

Today she samples landfills –

And works on projects from the office on Environmental issues.

But going back years and years –

She played soccer – travel teams – H.S.

and in college at the University of Lynchburg.

Here she is in the black uniform number 13 –

about to take the ball away.

She played for four years –

Becoming a starter in her Sophomore year.

That year she was named third-team all-conference.

Having taken the ball away – she reverses and takes the ball to the goal.

Her junior year saw her named to the all-conference second team.

In her senior year, she was named captain of the team.

In the four years she played –

They won the conference-

and went to the NCAA tournament twice.

She was a leader both on and off the field.

To accomplish what she did and maintain a high-grade point average-

And to graduate and work in the Environmental Science field-

Is gratifying to her and us as grandparents.

Papa’s World – A visit to family – Lake Holiday.

Sarah, Debby, Maddy, and Ella,

the daughter and granddaughter,

are at home in Lake Holiday.

When we travel back to NVA –

One daughter and family live just outside of Leesburg, Va.

Here they are further North beyond Winchester, Va.

They do not live on the lake –

But a short drive to one of the three beaches.

They do have a boat –

and rent dock space for it.

Here is the fire pit in the backyard.

They love the outdoors –

every summer –

spend time at Raquet Lake –

in the far north of NYS!

Hiking – swimming – boating –

camping – an outdoor family.

Their yard reflects all of the above.

When he was young –

Bode – the only boy grandson –

adored Ella –

She was his idol and she took care of him whenever we were all together.

All during her soccer playing days –

Whenever he was at the games –

you could hear him shouting her name.

She went on to play at Randolf College –

and started as a Freshman-

Becoming team captain in her Sophomore season.

She even played against her sister Maddy –

who started

and was team captain –

For the University of Lynchburg.

The times we spend here are special.

We always try to split our time at home-

between the two houses.

Reflections on the “WALL” in D.C. –

Paul – Sherry and Jo –

Paul graduated from the same H.S. that Sherry did –

And Jo graduated from the same H.S. I did.

We have visited their home in Tuscon –

and they visited our home in Brambleton, Va.

Here we are on one of our trips into D.C.-

We spent days walking the city.

Sherry and Jo to her left in front of the famous unfinished statue of great women.

It is unfinished until we have a woman President.

Great friends whom we visit when we can and they in return visit us.

FRIENDSHIP MEMORIES!

Jo – Sherry and Paul – “REFLECTIONS”!

This friendship goes back to grade school with Bob and Myself.

We played sports together – and stayed at each other’s houses.

Drank beer together – roamed the streets of Eldred after curfew.

Today, they stopped in for a week while they were RVING –

across the country.

FRIENDSHIP MEMORIES!

Less than five miles from our home in Cameron Woods Community –

Is COASTAL POINT –

A seniors home that has memory care and assisted living quarters.

We volunteer each month –

Sherry – pictured above –

along with other volunteers –

set up and operate a “STORE” for residents to shop!

Almost all of the items are donated –

anything from jewelry to games to clothes.

The residents earn vouchers during the month and use the vouchers to buy items.

This gives them a sense of still being able to live a normal life.

They come in wheelchairs – canes – walkers or walking.

The items are surprisingly nice!

They have an hour and a half to shop and then everything is taken off the racks and tables-

and stored away for the next month – all done by the volunteers.

I – in the meantime – go to the library and organize it after a month of use,

Replacing books – completed puzzles – sorting through books and discarding them as –

relatives continually donate more books.

I place chairs back where they are moved from –

and make it as easy as I can for them to look through different sections of the library.

Sherry and I are on the North Shore of Ohau!

We went here on a trip with our close friends THE MCBRIDE-

We spent almost two weeks in an air BNB –

A perfect base to explore the whole island which we did.

From our lanai, we could observe parachute jumping and hang gliding –

from a nearby airport.

We spent every day taking in as much as we could!

We both want to return and explore the other islands.

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

We have seen this cat several times in the last two years.

He or She lives in and around the Community Center on Ocean Isle Beach.

One time we talked to a lady who said she fed it –

Place a tin of cat food, wait for it to finish, and then remove it.

I am not sure where it sleeps as there are many foxes and people have seen coyotes.

This time it followed us on the boardwalk from the center to the steps to the beach.

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Many memories of my youth growing up in Eldred, Pa.

When the Myers family comes to visit in the summertime.

Sherry – Debby – Maddy – Ella – Sarah and Mike are behind them.

All summer long until late September –

We have open-air music concerts at the park in OIB.

FREE TO THE PUBLIC!

The park also has a huge playground with a basketball-pickle ball court.

There are bathrooms and a bocce court.

A splash pad and an open grass field with a covered concert stage.

The entire area is fenced in and many events are held here-

plus a weekly market-vendor – sales!

We can be on the beach –

Today – they live in Magnolia Greens –

They are 38 miles from our home –

Papa’s World – More memorable moments.

Early morning – on the beach walking –

This is part of our volunteer work –

The Protection for Sea Turtles.

We sign up to walk the East end of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

This stretch of beach is all dunes – sand and no houses.

The other beach is patrolled by an ATV and two volunteers.

Here you walk to see if any “TURTLE CRAWLS” have occurred overnight.

You also observe the erosion and any high banks that have washed out.

We also take plastic bags to pick up garbage.

It is a quiet walk into the sunrise –

Sometimes you see Dolphins swimming up or down the beach.

Often times fishing boats come out of the channel and head for the open ocean.

Walking into the sunrise is a magical part of the life at the beach.

Creating more MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN PICTURES!

My youngest son Shawn – has visited us twice since we moved here in 2020.

He owns his own Auditing and Energy protection company in NWPA –

Contracting with the State and Energy companies for energy efficiency for the elderly.

He covers the state of Pa. and some of WNY.

We hope they can get back down this year again.

Another MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN PICTURES!

How often do you see the Sunset from our backyard with snow and ice on the ground?

In the going on five years for us –

This is a first.

This storm came up from the Gulf of Mexico –

and it snowed in Florida on the coast – Ga.- S.C. and up through the Eastern coast.

Inland – no snow or ice.

This is a very RARE event and I captured it from my patio in the back of the house.

Thus creating another MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

In this picture,

I had just returned home from the oral surgeon who had done TWO IMPLANTS-

In the front of my mouth.

This was something I did not want to do –

But to be honest –

It went so smoothly – they were excellent!

Both were crowns but they had to take what was left of the teeth

and extract them and then put them in the implants.

Glad that it is now past history and everything worked out!

But it was $$$$$$$$!!

ANOTHER MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

We have a “SOLO FIRE PIT” just off our back patio.

Now – I am not so much into campfires –

but our grandkids and their parents are.

So – often times when they visit –

I start it up and they enjoy the Sunset – the stars and the

“SOLO FIRE PIT”!

Creating ANOTHER MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

LOL – and in our backyard we have bird feeders!

So – this little funny picture –

It is almost true as the DEER eats the birdseed,

and the squirrels clean up afterward!

Thus we might have a MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES if I could catch them! LOL!

Finally – a picture was taken of us on the North Shore of Ohau –

A vacation we took with our friends the McBrides some years ago.

Someday – we would like to return and do the other islands –

thus we would be able to –

Make other MEMORABLE PICTURES IN MOMENTS!

So far we have other friends who have moved near us-

We have taken many visitors here for the beauty and solitude.

Thus we have created –

Back when the twins were young –

about two years old –

Their parents had sold their home and were waiting for the new one to be completed.

They came to live with us –

to go upstairs to the bedroom.

They had their little beds to sleep on in the spare bedroom while their parent had the other spare room.

Next to Sherry is her mother Barb and her father Bill.

Next to Bill is Rusty – Barb’s brother and in front of him is Ceil – his wife.

This day was the second marriage for both of us.

We had dated the previous year and a half.

We had worked together at The American Olean Tile Company –

and by chance found out we were both in divorce proceedings.

Luck in a passing comment by other co-workers –

Brought us together in a conversation we had later.

All this seems like yesterday

her mother and father are now gone as is her Aunt and Uncle.

The kids – all of them – are grown and have children of their own.

For some unknown reason – my two boys are not in this picture although –

they were in other pictures.

The years passed – marriages and grandkids came.

Here to the left is Debby and Mike and their three daughters –

Maddy – Sarah and Ella.

To the right are Tammy and Marcus with the twins Cassidy and Taylor and the only boy – Bode.

We moved during the 2020 Pandemic – having sold our Brambleon, Va. home.

Mike and Debby still live at Lake Holiday –

on 522 between Berkly Springs and Winchester, Va.

Tammy and Marcus live in Selma Plantation –

just North of Leesburg, Va.

Many trips are now made back and forth between our home and their homes.

And they also make many trips back and forth.

The three oldest grandchildren – two are out of college –

the youngest is out of H.S.

The three youngest are still in school and into all kinds of activities –

The twins will soon be 15 and Bode to be 11.

Debby and Tammy are close to their mother.

My oldest son Troy and his partner Andrea – still live in WPA where he grew up.

My youngest son Shawn and Trisha – married – still live in WPA – where he grew up.

Papa and Sherry – far left – seven years after we were married – and I had a few years before –

And we both played in a competitive volleyball league and weekend tournaments.

Papa’s World – More memorable times!

Before we moved in 2020 to N.C. & S.C. ( nine months) –

Sherry was a runner – along with her daughters –

pictured here is the youngest – Tammy-

All three of the oldest grandkids also run!

Her best run was finishing first in the 60 to 64 age group.

Many memories are here!

All three ran the D.C. Cherry Blossom race! TEN MILES!

I was in charge of grandkids that day –

the three youngest were not born yet.

We went into D.C. with backpacks –

And we found a place to stand – sit near the finish line.

That was a day to remember as all three came across the line holding hands!

Two daughters and their mother!

Until we left to come South – they ran on occasion.

MORE MEMORABLE TIMES!

Debby – Sherry and Tammy-

The Swedish gene runs deep here!

Sherry’s grandmother was born in Sweden.

She still has distant relatives there.

We did take an extensive tour of Denmark – Sweden, and Norway with her mother and sister-

We were on a bus and traveled for 1400 miles –

only staying more than one night in the same place twice!

We saw from a distance her homeland of her grandmother.

That is a cherished memory.

MORE MEMORABLE TIMES!

Friends for years and years.

Sherry – Dottie and Cindy.

Dottie grew up in the same town I did and married Jim who I knew and played softball with.

Cindy was our neighbor but had known Dottie and Jim.

We all lived in WNY and WPA –

although the border separated us –

it was only ten miles or so.

We have vacationed together – raised the kids and traveled the World.

To this day every three to five months we get together.

All three now live in N.C. –

Cindy is 38 miles away and Dottie is about three and one-half hours away.

Over the years which go back to the early 80’s –

We have had many memorable moments.

Today I share this moment on the waterfront-

in Wilmington, N.C.

MORE MEMORABLE TIMES!

I know this to be very true! LOL

Jimmy and I have been best buds since we played softball together in the mid to late ’70s.

We also worked at A.O.T.C. – Dal Tile together.

I went to Dottie and Jim’s wedding before I met Sherry.

Friendship runs deep – The little town of Eldred, Pa. where we were raised –

still holds a lot of special memories for the both of us.

less than six miles from our home in OIB.

We will be cremated and interred there –

So that the survivor can come and visit.

The above church was built

by the Swedish immigrants –

of the community in the 1800’s.

And is replicated from

an existing church in Sweden.

Unique in that it is an EIGHT-SIDED BUILDING!

Several pews inside are accessed from the ends only –

as a support beam comes down from the ceiling-

to the floor-making-

it is all but impossible

to either slide through or walk through.

Services are held here on certain dates throughout the year-

and this is considered a historical building.

The cemetery completely surrounds the church-

except for the driveway up the hill

and around the church.

We have attended many services here

and some have been in Swedish.

This is a picture of a memory

from Sherry’s hometown of Mount Jewett, Pa.

This is the walkway from the community center on Ocean Isle Beach

by the sand volleyball court!

We have seen this cat numerous times in the past three or more years.

It lives somewhere near this building!

Looking back the walkway to the Community Center of Ocean Isle Beach!

We know people come here

and feed this cat as we have been here

when they put the food out.

As you can tell – it looks well-fed.

I did not even know it was around

until Sherry looked back to the center

and said the cat was following us.

It continued past us and down a few steps

and sat down where I took the picture.

This also is where other people have fed it.

Sherry continued down to the surf

and I stayed up on the walkway by the cat.

It was a somewhat mild late January day –

overcast in the late afternoon –

Hardly anyone on the beach –

mid-50s

after some harsh cold days

after the snow and ice storm had melted.

The cat started to meow

as I stood there

and soon disappeared over to the left

and the top of this dune.

I looked away and when I looked back –

it was gone.

There are many feral cats –

we have some at Cameron Woods Community.

This one seems to enjoy the beach life.

I’ve looked to see where it might live –

but who knows –

there are many foxes around

so I imagine it to be somewhere high-

so as not to be in danger.

MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Papa’s World – Something memorable to us!

Good grief says Papa!

Here it is after four years – “SNOW”!

You up North – it is yours and I do not want it! LOL

But – I must say all the snow and ice was gone in five days!

Now – to be fair – this was a freak storm that went all the way down to Florida –

The Panhandle had snow – the beaches there had snow!

The East Coast or the Carolinas and Ga. and Va. had snow.

But inland they didn’t!

Climate Change?

I do not know but it was weird.

And it all turned to an ice crust and ice on the roads!

I will still take our winter here –

SUNSHINE most days and all day!

Walking in the sun – it is enough to take the chill away!

But – this will go down as SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

Here are the two teams we follow –

I lean a little bit more toward the Washington Commanders –

And Sherry leans a bit more toward the Buffalo Bills!

So – it came down that both made it to one game to go to the Super Bowl.

Neither one made it, but we were happy they got there!

And I said if they both make it –

I FEEL THAT I CAN’T LOSE NO MATTER HOW IT ENDS UP!

But this will go down as SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

Golfing in the mountains of OHAU – this was a dream come true.

We might never be able to do this again and most likely –

a once in a lifetime event!

Thus it becomes SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

We moved to the borders of N.C. and S.C. and to two beaches!

Most of the time we can walk year round on either one of them.

It is a dream we had and now a reality.

Thus it becomes SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

This is something we both live by each day-

So it has become LIVE LIFE TO THE PLUS ONE DAY AT A TIME!

And also SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US each day!

Each and every day in our lives together becomes SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

This blog details that each and every day –

I want to thank you all for reading –

PAPA’S WORLD – SOMETHING MEMORABLE TO US!

Papa’s World – Some more good times in pictures!

This picture not only shows Cassidy – Sarah and Taylor

when they were younger –

But was taken in Sherry’s mother’s backyard.

Every spring time this bush bloomed with purple flowers.

Looking out the breakfast room window off the kitchen –

You could see this huge bush-like tree.

Back in NWPA in the Swedish settlement of Mount Jewett –

a place we would return to often after moving to NVA!

This town was settled by immigrants from Sweden in the 1800s.

Her mother lived in this house after Sherry’s father passed away.

The house was right behind the Lutheran church

and Barb would walk out of her side door

and fifty feet at the side entrance to the church.

It is a small town –

today –

most all the store Fronts are vacant.

But – we have so many good memories of the town –

the house and her mother’s presence there.

MORE GOOD MEMORIES!

Sherry hits the golf ball –

you can see the flight it takes –

look at two o’clock from her head-

As the flight takes it to the center of the fairway.

What makes this a good memory for us –

Is this in OHAU –

on a course in the mountains?

Part of this course is in the rainforest –

it actually was raining on that part-

the other part not raining.

Those mountains were quite high

and the cliffs

were where tribal battles were fought among the different islands.

The tribe from OHAU was forced to retreat there

and eventually forced over the cliff

to their deaths.

We saw wild pigs –

mongooses – exotic birds.

Many of the holes –

I just took a stroke and went to the other side of the ravine-

It was a 200-plus-yard carry over the ravine!

You can see how lush the course is.

We can now say we played golf

in the middle of the ocean on OHAU!

ANOTHER GOOD MEMORY!

Back in Olean at DAL-TILE –

formerly American Olean Tile Co.-

We worked with artist Eric Jones

who was in the design department –

which made ceramic murals

out of the small tiles we manufactured –

You can submit a picture

and he would make it real with the tiles.

Today he runs his own business back in WNY –

Every winter he does snow sculptures –

The Buffalo Bills come to mind!

Here is one he did that portrays the mascot-

of the SAINT BONAVENTURE BASKETBALL TEAM!

His snow sculptures are in demand

from corporations and he also has been on TV-

Where he carved pumpkins and won the challenge.

A very gifted artist who also does caricatures.

This is another GOOD MEMORY!

Our life together spans some 43-plus years –

a second marriage for both of us –

two sets of children –

her two girls and my two sons.

Our journey together-

has taken us through six different houses –

and one condo.

Three of the houses we had built.

We span four states –

five if you count the state we were raised in.

We have many friends –

some closer than others.

We worked a combined 79 1/2 years for the same company

and retired from that company.

We worked in NYS and NVA.

Today we are in OIB – N.C.

near the border of S.C.

We enjoy exploring – entertainment in NMB –

and Wilmington.

We travel back and forth to NVA

where most of the family and grandkids are.

We golf – go to the beach

and volunteer for the Protection of Sea Turtles –

Coastal living for seniors –

helping out at the store and library.

And through our church –

the Brunswick County Food Pantry.

Living a Meaningful Senior Life –

provides MORE GOOD MEMORIES!

On OHAU – traveling together

and making GOOD MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – Good times in pictures!

On one of our GOOD TIMES together – Sherry and Cindy.

We were neighbors in WNY in the mid to late 80s and mid-90s.

They moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area and we would visit.

Over all these years – we often time planned vacations together taking us all over the world.

Buck – Cindy’s husband and I –

We golfed together when they lived as our neighbors back in WNY.

It was there that the gals decided to golf –

making for many laughs as often they would make fun of us for things we did golfing.

Like washing the golf balls off –

Not wearing mittens in cold weather –

Later they came to be good or better than us.

Today – we still laugh at all of the above.

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

The very first couple we met when we moved to Cameron Woods Community –

Is Diane and Steve.

We found out that they not only are our neighbors here –

But that they lived near us back in WNY –

And knew many of the places we did and still had a cottage on Rushford Lake.

Now – they spend their summers back in WNY while we watch their home.

Then for the rest of the year,

they are here and we do many things together.

All four of us are Bills fans!

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

Two of my best friends – Buck and Jim.

Many laugh together over the years.

Jim and I grew up in the same little town in NWPA – ELDRED!

We played softball together and both worked for American Olean Tile in Olean, N.Y.

First – after 32 years –

I transferred to NVA –

And a few years later – he transferred to the Va. Beach area.

Buck had already moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area.

Today – Jim – Sherry and I all retired from Dal-Tile,

which was the former American Olean Tile and is now owned by MOHAWK INDUSTRIES.

We have maintained this friendship all these years.

Decades and decades of get-togethers and so many laughs.

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

Getting together – here is Dottie – married to Jim – and also from ELDRED, PA.

Friends for all this time and still having fun together –

All are now retired and enjoying life to the plus.

Dottie who works and prepares so hard for our get-togethers

LOVE HER!

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

Enjoying our life here in the Carolinas – what we dreamed of has become a reality.

Papa’s World – Times in pictures forms memories!

For almost twenty years –

We have run our internet business from home –

The business almost runs itself –

Sherry more or less guides the customers-

And they make the decision themselves.

Ship dates –

Add or subtract from the orders.

We started this as a way

to maintain aging healthy

as much as we can.

I certainly do not consume

the recommended fruits, vegetables, and berries every day-

mostly in uncooked form.

And the Omegas –

which you get from FISH oil –

Well, you have to worry about Mercury –

These Omegas –

Are made from Algae

which is grown on company farms-

Algae is what the fish eat to get the Omega-3s.

There is no Mercury in the Algae farms.

So, of course,

You might wonder –

“How do we know we are getting the nutrients from their fruits, vegetables, and berries”?

Well –

JP is the most researched whole food product of all time.

Over FORTY studies have been done

and published

in Journals proving it does what it says it does.

Rest assured, I did not read all of them –

But enough to know what it does

and from my own experience –

I believe it!

Now it is NSA-approved –

which means Professional Athletes –

Can use this every day

and not be expelled from their sports.

The Olympic teams take it –

Both summer and Winter.

I will always take it every day –

And I get my blood tested every six months

And I am good!

In the first picture –

Sherry and Debby were recognized

at a conference at Elton’s dinner.

Sort of an awards show

for those who excel.

As I stated at the beginning –

I am going on TWENTY YEARS

of taking this supplement every day.

Although I can not stop aging –

I try to age as healthily

as I can in my SENIOR YEARS.

We are both in our mid to late 70s

PAPA’S WORLD –

TIMES IN PICTURES FORM MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – Memorable moments!

When we lived in Brambleton, Va. –

we were only one mile away from Tammy – Marcus – the twins and Bode.

He was too young for school and the twins were at the middle school less than a block away.

So – for the most part – he spent his days with MORMOR and PAPA.

We had a cupboard that all the kid’s toys would fit into.

All of the grandkids played with these same toys!

Hours and hours!

The carpet on the floor – the fireplace on for the cold and snow outside.

The only time he quit was to eat!

I would sit and watch and sometimes join in!

The FARM SET was his favorite.

I miss these times but also have MEMORABLE MOMENTS in pictures of those times!

Along with shopping and him riding in the cart!

Now he is older – soon to be eleven years old –

Now he asks MORMOR to bake cookies so he can help!

This is now creating more MEMORABLE MOMENTS in time for us as seniors.

Papa’s World – Good times in pictures!

We have two NFL teams we follow –

The Washington Commanders and the Buffalo Bills!

Before we moved to NVA –

we lived in WNY – BILLS COUNTRY.

We were there for all four Super Bowls.

When we moved to NVA –

It was all Redskins –

To watch the Bills –

We had to travel to Alexandria to a bar above a pizza joint!

That trip because of traffic –

took an hour and a half.

That lasted one season for me

as it became a Sunday trip lasting about eight hours.

So – we slowly began to watch the Redskins

and on our final move to another house-

We lived about five miles from their headquarters

and practice fields and facilities!

Many times I would take a half-day vacation and go and watch them.

Soon – we both had two teams to cheer on – when we could watch the Bills.

Today – we live on the border of N.C. and S.C.

And we have two flags we fly during NFL season.

The Commanders and the Bills.

I lean a little more toward the Commanders

and Sherry toward the Bills!

This year as of this writing –

They both gained the AFL and the NFL championship games.

This has provided us GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

One of the places we volunteer is Coastal Point Living-

A senior living facility that also has a memory care unit and assisted living.

My work is in the library – where I go in and organize it once a month.

Weeding out books to make room for new ones –

Keeping puzzle boxes in like stacks –

Putting books away where they are cataloged.

Sherry helps out with the store that the residents get about once a month.

They earn vouchers during the month and spend them at the store.

They set it up as much as they can to simulate shopping in a store.

The residents come in wheelchairs – walkers – canes or walk if they can.

They love to be able once again to spend their vouchers and the feel of shopping!

THIS HAS PROVIDED A GOOD TIME IN MEMORIES!

We cherish our life together –

and our lives with family and friends!

Living in the South –

near the beach

and shopping and entertainment in our golden years.

The opportunity to live this life –

is a blessing and we are so grateful

LIVING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME CREATES GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

The dawn of another day in our neighborhood!

We chose this place to live

as it is central to what we want to do.

Beach – shopping – entertainment – friends and golf.

CREATING GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

As we look forward –

2025 is ahead –

hoping all these above are a major part of this year.

Family – church – friends and health are our main goals.

CREATING GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – My reference – desktop calender!

How do you keep track of your commitments and daily activities as a senior?

Above picture – Sherry and I volunteer at Coastal Living –

An assisted care unit and memory for seniors living here in the South.

We go maybe once a month or as needed.

This visit was for the “Store” for the seniors who get vouchers and go shopping!

Most items are donated and put on racks and tables-

just like a store would be.

It gives them the sense of still being able to function –

even thou they are wheelchair bound-

or with walkers.

But for us –

we have each calenders on our office desks.

Entered are appointments – trips or visits by family and friends.

My memory is good but not so good that I can remember all that need to be remembered!

That is why I blog every day – to keep my writing skills good and also my memory.

Writing down what is upcoming every month –

and then comparing both of our calendars –

allows us to schedule a month out!

Planning ahead – doctor appointments –

I drive us most of the time.

I also write little notes to remind me of upcoming events –

meetings and social gatherings.

Being a senior – I find this to be a way to organize time –

And a way to keep track of days and dates!

Yes – being a senior –

you no longer know what day it is unless you have a place to look! LOL

I know Wednesday is garbage pick-up day –

and that I go around the house on Tuesday and empty

all the little garbage cans and that main one in the kitchen.

That is my job as the laundry is hers –

Simply because I may not do it right! LOL

When we meet up with friends or neighbors –

I get asked,

“What have you been up to or what did you do today”?

My answer –

“I DON’T KNOW BUT IT TOOK ME ALL DAY TO DO IT”! LOL

We are in our SENIOR YEARS –

living life one day at a time & living life to the plus!

Calendars are a big part of daily life!

Papa’s World – Giving good thoughts and smiles!

In today’s hectic life – news is front and center every day – most of it dividing families – friends –

neighbors and people in general –

Today – this blog – I try to bring a different perspective –

GOOD THOUGHTS – SOME SMILES –

My blog is about life – family – friends and places –

I hope today gives a little of all to you!

In our backyard – I placed these faces on the tree facing our home – each time I look outback –

I see them looking back and smiling – even at night as I have a solar light shining on them.

It gives me a sense that not all the news is alarming – there is still a little humor out there!

LOL – and in my case – a lot of the above brings a great salad – always a perfect shot to bring me back!

A picture says a thousand words – NORTH MYRTLE BEACH –

SHAGGING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD-

Dancing to the beach music for the past 80-plus years!

Generations – grandparents – parents and grandchildren fill the dance floors.

Competitions – junior shaggers –

Sidewalks are full of granite-dated names of past shaggers all around the town.

A little music – dancers in clubs and good times –

and a water tower with a couple dancing the night away – brings joy –

A good thought for the day!

This picture was drawn by our granddaughter when she was just 11 years old at our home in OIB!

She is so talented – she plays the violin – sits down at the keyboard and plays a Billie Eilish song

without a music sheet –

Bring joy to my heart –

Another generation to carry on happiness.

Cassidy when she was maybe three – or about to be.

A feeling of pride in my heart!

Both of us have always loved the sand – surf and warm days at the beach.

Now – in our last home – we are but minutes away –

from two beaches and our time is spent walking the sand and surf – whenever we want to.

A calming influence in the turmoil that seems to be in the news daily.

OUR WHY WE ARE HERE IN OCEAN ISLE BEACH!

As the sun sets on another day in our place in the world – love – kindness – sharing and helping.

We are but a small voice in a large sky – but hopefully – others join us.

PAPA’S WORLD – GIVING GOOD THOUGHTS AND SMILES!

Papa’s World – Fun times with family and friends.

Above is my son – Troy and then me – he is in the yellow shirt and I am next to him-

We are in front of the Lutheran Church on the main street in Mount Jewett, PA.

This is where Sherry went to church growing up.

We were here visiting her mother and watching the parade for the Swedish Festival.

It is both a happy memory and a sad one looking back.

The couple to the left – I graduated with her; her husband was a Pa. State trooper.

Sadly they both have passed away – gone but not forgotten.

The Swedish Festival is a week-long event held yearly for the past 50 years.

Vendors – music events and parade and carnival.

We have not attended since her mother passed away.

A memory from the past.

In the cart is Buck and standing is Jimmy.

My two oldest longtime friends other than the ones I graduated with.

Buck and I were neighbors back in Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

Jim grew up in Eldred, Pa. the same as I did.

We worked together at the TILE PLANT and played softball together.

Today we all live in the state of N.C.

We reunite every four or so months with our wives –

playing golf – laughing and having good times for memories.

Many years ago this was taken of the grandkids.

Bode is now ten years old.

Maddy graduated from college and Ella will this Spring graduate from college.

Sarah will graduate this year from H.S.

Fun times with grandkids growing up.

Inspiration for this blog!

Sherry and Cindy – friendship goes way back to the late 80s when we moved to Pleasant Acres Dr.

Just outside Portville, N.Y. when we became neighbors of the McBrides.

Today – that friendship continues here in N.C. as we live about 38 miles South of them.

Today we get together for music – plays – dinner and golf.

Friends are forever.

Sherry with Bode – Cassidy and Taylor years ago.

When we moved – it was hard leaving them behind as we spent a lot of time with them.

Today we go back and forth to see family.

And they in turn come down here.

But we have so many memories and are making new memories since we moved.

Pictures bring it all back.

While we are in the sunset of our senior years –

remaining as healthy as we can –

volunteering for many organizations –

We remain in our dream life living here in the South.

Warm – sand – surf and entertainment.
