Papa’s World – At ION skating rink – Bode’s birthday!

To start off your day with humor – and smiles! LOL!

Our young grandson – Bode – invited his friends to the ION INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ICE SKATING FACILITY in Leesburg, Va.

It is a huge facility with a hockey-sized arena with seats on one side and another hockey-sized arena on the other side for free skating!

Bode – third from left – with his friends in the rink – they had such a good time – they also had a private room where they went for cake and pizza and presents.

Here they are in the entrance to the rink – such fun – I watched them for an hour or more!

The other side is where the hockey side is and also a training center for the Olympics and you can see some of them skating!

BODES BIRTHDAY AT ION INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SKATING ARENA IN LEESBURG, VA.

Papa’s World – ION – International Skating Training Center! For OLYMPICS!

Recently we went to the ION SKATING rink for our grandson’s birthday party –

In Leesburg, Va.

Where – we walked into the other half of the building and to our surprise –

INTERNATIONAL SKATING pairs for the Olympics were training!

I talked to the mother of the girl in the above picture – who is from Georgia – the country – and they had just flown in from France.

She told me there are three sites across the country – Salt Lake City – Michigan and here at ION in Leesburg, Va. that are the elite of training sites!

In this picture, you can see the USA pairs for ice skating being instructed by the coach for the USA OLYMPIC TEAM!

There were pairs from Georgia – France – Poland – Great Britain and the USA here that day.

USA pairs the team and the coach to the left and the pair from Georgia on the right.

The mother told me they had moved to Leesburg so her daughter could train at ION.

This is a hockey arena and it is really nice – there are teams that play here although not the NHL.

I was very surprised at the size and how nice it was way out here in the country.

We had no idea when we came for the birthday party being held on the other side of the wall

in an exact-sized rink

but without the seats that this was going on .

I only found it as I had asked to go into the rink to see it!

PAPA’S WORLD – ION – INTERNATIONAL SKATING TRAINING CENTER for OLYMPICS!

Papa’s World – Sarah – Cassidy – Bode and Taylor go ice skating!

Taylor – Sarah – Cassidy and Bode – cousins – at the ION ice rink in Leesburg, Va. There also is a full-size ice hockey rink here other than what you see behind them – with thousands of seats!

We got together with Sarah and her mother Debby for a two-hour skate – the kids loved it and they all helped Sarah who hasn’t skated since she was little!

The adults sat here at the table with a full view of the rink – I also went to the hockey rink and watched the youth hockey play – full pads!

Quite impressed with the arena which could rival the pros!

We were able to have food and drinks while watching the kids and they could join us for food!

Taylor who is 12 is almost as tall as Sarah who is 16 and around 5’10! Cassidy has been catching up to Taylor for the last year.

We then went to the grandkid’s house – for a short visit – exchanged clothes – and say our goodbyes!

Here are Sarah – Sherry – Debby – Cassidy and Taylor!

The afternoon ended too quickly but we all had such a good time and all the kids loved the ice skating!

PAPA’S WORLD – just another day in our life – living life to the plus – one day at a time!

Papa’s World – life has changed – memories from the past 16 months!

Before the Pandemic and COVID19 – we were in Florida at a little British cafe!

We were on our way back to the air BNB – looking for a place to stop and eat and we found this little gem.

I can not remember the name but it had the flag of the British hanging outside.

It – was very cool and the food was good.

In the Reston Town Center – open air – seated 6 feet apart – lunch with friends Jayson and Ginger.

After we returned home in March – the Pandemic hit.

A few months later – we met our friends in the open air seated more than six feet apart.

Ordered lunch from one of the places to eat for pick up.

And in the middle of the common area ice skating rink – enjoyed ourselves.

Long before the Pandemic – Jo and Paul visited us from Tucson Az. for a weeks tour of our area in NVA and DC.

Old friends – who live in Az. visited us for a week and we showed them NVA and Washington DC.

When we had gone out there for a conference – after it was over – they picked us up and we went to Sedona.

We also went back to their home and they showed us around Tucson.

It was a great week filled with a lot of historical sites!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

I will continue the MEMORIES in the next blog of the past 16 months!

Taking two of our older grand daughters to the beach in Sandbridge.

SHERRY SARAH ELLA and PAPA!

Memory I shall cherish for the rest of my life during the Pandemic of 2020.

Papa’s World – DAY # 100 with friends – RESTON VA.

We have been on the move – packing –

going back and forth to the storage unit.

So we were invited by friends to meet up at the Reston Town Center.

Where we found four chairs – placed them at least six feet apart

and sat down and ate our curbside pickup!

We met up with Jason & Ginger Child –

and while it was raining – sometimes a cloud burst

we found shelter under the covered ICE SKATE RINK

Now covered in artificial grass –

with all these colorful chairs and decorations!

Our peaceful little space – under the clear roof – with a slight rain!

It was so nice to just sit and talk – eat – and watch people –

all respecting distance – and being outside – we took our masks off

to of course eat and sip our ice teas!

The topics were one and many – the laughs – well – a way to relax.

We have a lot to be thankful for – sitting with friends outside

in the fresh air – listening to the rain –

eating lunch –

it is the little things in life that are full of surprises

Thank you Ginger for the invite!

And Jason – who works from home 7 days a week –

A chance to take a break –

Someday my friend – we shall play a round of golf!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
