We were neighbors back in Portville, N.Y.

Today we are in N.C., some 38 miles away.

We get together to golf, have dinner, travel, and enjoy entertainment.

Papa’s World – Memories and thoughts!

Have you ever heard a song and it brought forth memories from the past?

Growing up in the 50s and 60s-

I listen to classic rock and also country.

Many of those songs bring back memories for me.

They provide a way for me to express long-ago happenings.

The very first time I heard a Beatles song-

My first memory of country!

Dances – hanging out with friends.

Good thoughts and memories!

From the beginning of our marriage-

We both loved the beach, sand, and surf.

Dreaming that someday we could make it a daily thing to walk on the beach.

Now in our retirement and senior years –

That dream has come true!

We will enjoy it as long as we are able!

A MEMORY COMES TRUE!

The little Lutheran Church in Portville, N.Y..

Where we were married all those years ago –

On 6-25-1982.

Many memories are there –

We transferred to NVA in 1999.

We found a church there and left it in 2020.

We are now at another church, located close to our home in Cameron Woods Community.

IT WILL NOW CREATE MEMORIES ONCE AGAIN IN OUR SENIOR YEARS!

In 2021, the construction of our new home in Cameron Woods Community- OIB!

Here you see them testing the irrigation system.

We were able to close and start moving in on July 2, 2021.

Today it is all landscaped –

And we are happy to have selected this to be our retirement home in the South!

MANY NEW MEMORIES HAVE BEEN FORMED HERE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

LOL- I BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE!

Our supplement of choice for over twenty-plus years!

Aging healthily in our senior years.

Our goal in moving South-

It is to continue to play golf!

We live in the middle of over thirty golf courses.

I belong to a card-holding TRAIL MEMBERSHIP-

Be yourself –

As an aging senior well into my 70s-

My thought process each day is my blog-

This provides me with memory-

Seeing past pictures brings forth an exercise for me to write them down!

Making me think and remember past events.

So I am grateful I still can do this!

A GOOD THOUGHT to start your day!

A good memory from my past!

A memory I cherish from when they were small.

Dottie and Sherry –

Dottie is our longest long time friend since we were married.

Jimmy – her husband and I played softball together in Eldred, Pa.

Where all three of us grew up.

I attended their wedding before I met Sherry.

Eldred in the early 1900s-

This is the town we grew up in.

In the distance beyond the hills is NYS!

To the left are the woods and the Alleghany River basin.

Many childhood memories for us here.

The lure of the BEACH –

Led us to move to OIB- N.C.

We are retired here-

Minutes to the beach!

OCEAN ISLE BEACH!

Just 16 miles to North Myrtle Beach.

Sunset Beach to the South.

Holden Beach and Oak Island to the North.

Wilmingtom is about 45 minutes to the North.

Our long-time friends – The McBrides-

Live at Magnolia Greens –

Some 38 minutes to the North.

I think we chose right to be where we live now!

Good day, everyone!

Sharing some good thoughts and humor today!

And yes- HAPPY HOUR ON THE BEACH!

To play golf, in my opinion –

You just have to have a sense of humor!

At least I do!

Of course, easier said than done.

Frustrations can and do come out!

But I try not to let it get to me!

Everyone has their day –
bogies – pars and once in a while a birdie.

And then, we head to the beach after that round of golf!

Time to reflect while toes in the sand and the sound of the surf!

“I did hit that great shot – I made it out of the sand trap-

And I one putted”!

I look at the beach – the folks there are on vacation!

Then, I planned to go back again and attempt to play golf.

Knowing it will be both a pleasure and a frustration.

But this is why we choose to live among the golf courses and near the two beaches!

The sun sets on another day of golf –

Another day at the beach-

And our life in the Carolinas is complete-

We are not on vacation –

We live here and have a second chance to swing that club-

Maybe a boggie – a par or a birdie.

In golf as in life-

FRIENDS for decades and decades!

WASH – RINSE and REPEAT!

Friends sharing special moments.

Keep thinking positive thoughts when that shot does not go as you thought!

Good morning and welcome to my blog!

My journey of blogging has been ongoing for several years.

Encouraged by my wife to write it all down –

And have a place where it is saved for generations to read.

My spot on the front porch –

In the shade, where I sit and say hello or wave to the neighbors.

It is peaceful, and I can watch the storms come in from the SW!

This view is to the NE –

And the sunrise.

We can see both the sunrise and sunset from our front view.

And – the porch is shaded most of the time.

Living life here as a senior –

The climate is ideal for us.

We have a golf course nearby and two beaches.

Shopping is within 30 minutes in both directions.

We have made new friends –

Neighbors and a community to our liking!

Senior living in the Carolinas!

Family is important to us –

And they come to visit.

Here we are at sunset on OIB!

A day well spent, and looking forward to the next day!

One of my favorite things to do –

Is going shopping with Sherry –

At the “OUTLETS” –

in Myrtl Beach, S.C.

Here, I purchase a Starbucks coffee-

And find a place to sit in the sun-

Sip my coffee –

While people watching –

Until she finishes a certain area for shopping-

And then we move on to another area!

That way, I get to do what I want to do-

And she can shop to her heart’s content! LOL!

Went to an antiques vendor fair in Myrtle Beach.

Just to see if anything caught their eyes!

It didn’t!

But they had a great day together while Buck and I watched TV at home.

Walk through the “JUKE BOX” doors –

Into the WORLD OF SHAG DANCING!

This area is known as the “SHAG DANCING” capital of the world.

And has been for almost 80 years!

The dance is famous all over the world –

Just Google it and watch them dance!

A little humor this morning –

I on the one hand –

wake up almost every morning at the same time.

Very seldom do I just roll over and continue to sleep –

Unless there is a Thunder and rain storm.

That seems to make me just lay there –

Listen to it and drop off to sleep once more!

LOL – some smiles for today!

For me – this is so true.

That is why I buy a higher beach chair.

I do not want people to see me rolling off to my knees-

and attempting to get up! LOL

This most likely is me!

And it is true! LOL!

In a time not so far away –

In the VILLAGES playing golf.

MISS THIS!

If I could turn back time-

Our twin granddaughters-

who will turn 15 on their next birthday-

This would be the squirrel asking Sherry –

Along with the Deer and Racoons –

She constantly replenishes the bird feeder! LOL

I have always led my life with –

“Do the small things in life – mostly – it will take care of the bigger things”!

When talking about the volunteer work we do for the food pantry –

I was asked – “Can they work”?

Now – the people who came and waited for food –

Most were elderly – on fixed incomes.

A few were homeless –

Others – you could tell had emotional problems.

A few were living in their cars.

Different diseases you can not tell by just looking through a window.
I did not know these folks –

And I thought – why would you ask that question?

We were there to help –

And that question – well –

I hope that they never are in that position-

of the people –

who came for food –

Giving – helping – caring –

The little things in life that make the difference!

Near dusk from our driveway –

We caught a glimpse of a space rocket launch –

Going across the sky!

Sherry had been watching the news and it was announced the direction of the flight-

was taking in the night sky!

The wonders of space – rockets – exploring the outer limits –

A good vibe was shared from the driveway.

Routine – for me – going to bed when I am tired – fall asleep –

And without an alarm clock –

wake up between 5 and 6 am. every morning.

Then a half hour of preparing for the day to come-

Getting dressed –

And making my one and only cup of coffee for the day.

Sipping it as I read the paper online.

Skipping the absurd from either the left or the right.

World events – looking for the positive to start my day.

Following sports and checking my emails and notifications.

Then writing my daily blog.

ROUTINES that I enjoy.

Let the new day begin!

Today is a blog on good vibes –

A blog that gently leads you into a day of your life.

Here I am at the American Pickers store in Nashville, Tenn.

For those of you who do not know,

in the mid-70s,

I started to ride motorcycles.

Yes – I had long hair (curly)

And I rode for six years –

I was involved in an accident –

A new young driver was driving a VW-

from one red light to another.

I was behind her in Amherst, N.Y.

I was just going from second gear to third –

when all of a sudden she was stopped with no brake lights!

She had stalled the VW –

and not put her foot on the brake peddle.

At that point –

all I could do was lay the bike on its side and skid up to her bumper.

She was sorry – I was scraped up –

The windshield was broken but the crash guards saved the bike.

I rode for another year –

but the memory was still there –

and I decided to quit riding.

But – in Nashville –

this bike brought all those memories of riding back!

A part of my life that was free in the wind –

A part of my life that long hair – leather and boots –

Was something I shall always cherish.

Sherry and me –

at my grandson’s wedding outside Nashville, Tenn.

Ryan is the oldest grandchild –

and lives near Nashville.

We occasionally see him-

and stay in touch.

He is a part owner of a restaurant and bar –

and looking in the future of opening a second one.

I talked to him several months ago-

and he is thinking of coming for a visit.

They had a photo booth at the wedding –

and we took some pictures!

Hoping he can come – some memories of the past.

This was at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Here is Sherry serving wine as a communion assistant.

We loved our time in NVA –

despite the traffic –

The Metro allowed us to travel in and out –

without the Hassle of all the traffic.

Memories of times gone by.

LOL – well – it might be true – “NOT”!

A day trip into D.C. –

to the MGM at the National Harbor!

Often we would take these day trips onto the streets of D.C.

This one we had to drive –

And if you know me – I hate to drive!

But – in the end,

it was worth the Hassel.

Today – it is but one more memory of the 21 Year’s we lived near here.

In Cameron Woods Community –

We have made new friends!

Marcea and Bill –

Ken and Marylou-

Diane and Steve ( who are from where we lived in WNY)

Fun times and looking forward to more of the same!

Where we chose to live –

Near the beaches –

On the border of N.C. and S.C.

In the winter – we can survive with no snow or ice- most of the time.

And – we can walk the beach anytime we choose.

We are close to old friends – three couples!

Our enclosed Lanai is a haven for our plants and flowers!

We could not do thus BACK in NVA!

This plant belonged to Sherry’s mother – Barb – and reminds us of her every day – GIGI!

Our lemon tree – who would have thought!!!!

Small things make us happy!

Now – we get to spend time with two couples who have been our close friends for over forty years!

Golfing – singing – lifting a few drinks and laughing!

So many times we have been together that it ends up like this!

Now – we all live in the state of N.C.

and we all are from back in WNY and close to NWPA!

Friends are forever and more!

My oldest buddy from grade school – Bob and his wife Pam

We now see them every year – past six years –

when they stop with their RV in their sixth year of retirement.

Friends are special parts of our life together.

Family from back in NVA-

While we left them to move South –

They come down and we go back to NVA!

Family from back where we grew up in NWPA!

Now that her mother has passed away – we do not get there as often as we would like!

But – they have been down a couple times and we hope for them to be here this summer.

Bonnie on the left –

Still lives next door to where they were raised.

Debby on the right lives one mile from us in Cameron Woods Community.

Family – hoping that Bonnie can sometime in the future make it down.

When we do go back to NWPA-

We will see her and her family and my sons and their wife-partner!

Sunset Beach and in the upper far right corner – Ocean Isle Beach.

We are here because of choice.

We are happy in retirement –

With family – friends and our life here.

This picture represents a four-decade plus of friends we have had during our 42-plus years of marriage.

Count your friends on one hand?

We would need two hands plus our feet to count all that we consider close friends!

These are the longest in that count.

Blessings to our life together have come in many ways – this is but one of them!

We have five grandchildren – FIVE girls and one Boy!

Today – the three oldest are adults –

Maddy – Ella and Sarah.

The three youngest are 14 – 14 and 10 – Taylor- Cassidy and Bode.

Being far away – they come down and we go back to where they live.

Another blessing in our life.

A picture of Ocean Isle Beach – in ten minutes we can be here from our house on the mainland –

crossing over the ICW!

In the middle of this picture is the park on the island.

From mid-May to the end of September –

Live open-air concerts are held free of charge.

Many different groups will take donations from the crowd –

supporting many area volunteer activities.

Free will offerings are a way to support their missions.

Sunset Beach is the other barrier island here –

And it is five more minutes away.

That also has free concerts that we attend.

Sunset Beach is Wednesday nights and OIB is Friday nights.

That is one “WHY” we moved her in 2021.

The “BEACH LIFE” – retirement dream!

Another blessing in our lives!

Papa’s World – Writing a Positive Blog!

Every morning – six to seven AM.

I sit at my keyboard and write a blog –

This is a way for me to express myself without going Political!

It is a way to JOG my memory for family – friends and neighborhood –

and where are our senior years we have decided this is the place we shall stay in!

When I started this blog –

my whole effort was going to revolve around a day-to-day account of how we live our lives.

It also would become a daily journal for our future great-grandchildren and beyond to read someday!

You see – I have very few words and pictures from my side of the family except what I have as a memory!

This writing is for my sons from a previous marriage as well as my two stepdaughters!

Almost all the family I grew up with is now gone.

I have one great-niece and two great-nieces left plus their children.

Sherry and I had no children together –

But we have been married for almost 43 years –

and together a year and one half before that wedding day 6-25-1982!

Our whole wedding vows were based on THE CHURCH ON THE ROCK!

Our wedding vows were “ROCK SOLID”!

Those little things in life –

We both do them well-

and in turn –

It mostly takes care of the bigger things in life!

It comes naturally for both of us!

EXCEPTION – I AM TO STAY AWAY FROM THE WASHER AND DRYER! LOL

Dinner – lunch and breakfast we share –

Clean up and cleaning in general we both do.

Making the bed – both of us.

I do not like to dust so she does while I dust mop the floors.

In retirement now in OIB –

The lawn we pay to have mowed-

We both trim bushes and plant flowers.

Both of us have a deep understanding of this –

And I have always championed EQUALITY –

MEN AND WOMEN – WOMEN AND MEN –

BOTH EQUAL IN OUR MINDS!

Tayor – one of the twins of Tammy and Marcus –

who would spend all her spare time in the barn and corral!

She loves riding – grooming and cleaning the stalls of horses!

This is her to the bone!

Cassidy – the other half of the twins on Tammy and Marcus-

She is full of life –

loves gymnastics and this year took up cheerleading!

So proud of her –

realizing her dream and being very competitive.

She will go far and smile all the way.

I can’t help but think this is so right!

We lived in the area for twenty years and made many trips to D.C.

We toured the White House before 911!

A memory I shall always cherish!

Oh if I could just turn back time!

Here is Bode and the twins –

they always came to the house in Brambleton and wanted –

Chocolate Juice Plus Complete shakes!

It was a ritual and to this day will ask for them!

Our close friends –

we see them every four months or so to get together.

It has been this way for the past 35 to 40 years!

I lost him in 1969 when I was 19 years old.

I will always remember him!

Thought for the day –

I started this blog at a request from my wife Sherry –

“You write on social media –

but it goes into the cloud never to be seen again –

you need to have it in a place where you store it”!

So – my WordPress blog began –

This was a daily journal of our lives –

families and friends.

Now – today – it still progresses –

with 642 members worldwide.

I am amazed at this –

Her nickname growing up was “TINY” –

given to her by her father!

Today – Ella is almost 5’10 ” tall –

and will compete for her senior year in college-

On the pitch in soccer.

She has started every game as a Freshman and Sophomore –

As a Junior,

she battled through a leg injury –

As the coaches monitored her game-by-game –

to not cause the injury to keep her from playing at all!

She was made captain in her Sophomore year –

as she battled her sister Maddy –

In games with the University of Lynchburg!

This year she hopes to recover enough –

to finish her college career!

She will graduate with two degrees –

and will be a physical teacher to young elementary students!

“TINY” has blossomed –

and my little one – well –

I will always have a place in my heart for her!

LIFE –

As we travel through LIFE –

MEMORIES are Made to be cherished!

In today’s World –

so many negative views –

I honestly wonder where –

COMMON SENSE has gone.

So many nasty thoughts –

Where does this come from –

a nation divided – a country amiss –

Name-calling – brother vs brother –

and sister vs sister –

Families torn apart.

Where has GRACE gone?

Today – I pray that this heals –

That sense will make sense.

Democracy must not die –

but be the shining light in the darkness.

I hope that this blog helps in that aspect –

Sharing GRACE through peaceful words.

LOVE makes the World go round!

LOVE is the only thing some people-

have to hold onto.

LOVE is here and there –

LOVE is in the air.

My hope is that LOVE shines bright enough-

LOL – Good day –

start your day with some laughs –

humor and good thoughts!

Every morning I have a routine –

I start by getting ready to take a shower –

Brush my teeth – take my Meds and Supplements.

Shave – Shower – and make my only cup of coffee for the day!

Then – check outside –

I have been moving plants in at night on the front porch –

and out again in the morning –

first rays of the sunlight!

WHY?

Because the Deer are eating all the flowers and buds!

No matter what I buy to stop them –

they munch them down to the stalks!

Then – I go into the office with my coffee-

and read the paper online.

Now – it is time to write my next blog after posting the days blog!

By the time I start writing –

Sherry is up and about.

My morning routine takes about two hours in total!

Then – off to make the bed –

and get dressed!

So – starting the day with laughter is the way I set the rest of the day feeling “GOOD”!

We have calendars to keep track of daily excursions.

Appointments – doctor – dentist – inspections – oil changes –

and tire rotations.

Haircuts – nails(SHERRY) – grocery stores (THREE OF THEM)

Gas – and trips into NMB or Shalotte.

We like to golf in the afternoons when we golf.

And we walk and exercise.

RETIREMENT is rewarding in different ways –

But the most I like about it –

I DO NOT HAVE TO THINK ABOUT RISING AND GOING TO WORK!

LIVE LIFE TO EXPRESS!

Our thoughts when we moved down to the borders of N.C. and S.C. –

was to go back three or four times a year.

And of course –

they come down a couple times a year.

We stay in contact with zooms –

calls and messages.

Our senior golden years are full of things we like to do.

Living as healthy as we can –

taking our supplements (19) years.

We are aging but we try to age healthy.

Living life to the plus and living life one day at a time.

Whatever you choose – make the best of it!

I arise early – earlier than most – this perhaps is my favorite time of the day!

The solitude of the morning from our front porch

This is my vantage point – sitting sipping my cup of coffee – it is 6:00 am.

No one is out and about – we have a multitude of birds –

Purple Martins flying and diving about catching the bugs!

Birds chirping – in the distance a woodpecker

A crow chasing a squirrel across the lawn and then onto the street.

That I have never seen before.

The coffee is hot – I put the cup down – and a very large white bird flies across the sky – silence!

My seat on the front porch – my solitude for early morning coffee.

It is a quiet time except for nature – but also a time to reflect – a time to think.

Guess I had better either get a refill or get ready for the day!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Happy thoughts and Happy days!

Golfing to us is a day to just enjoy the outdoors – good friends – and that one good shot that brings us back again and again.

Here we have so many courses near us and we buy the first tee card that gives us reduced rates

on over 50 courses.

Do we play every week – no – about every two weeks –

Usually with our close friends who live 38 miles away.

It is easy as the courses they like to play are in our area –

but they live on Magnolia Greens and we also play there.

We have been friends ever since we moved to Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

back in the late 1980s.

We started playing golf there in WNY before Sherry or Cindy ever picked up a golf club.

So many laughs back then and it continues to this day!

They even wore mittens because their hands were cold!

They moved in the mid-90s to N.C. and in 1999 we moved to NVA-

but we stayed in touch and would visit one another.

We have another couple who also are close friends and we would visit each other three times a year they lived in Va. Beach, Va.

The three of them are just so funny when together.

Sherry – Cindy and Dottie –

I have known Dottie and Jimmy since the mid to late 70s –

Jim and I played softball together in the town we both grew up in and Dottie lived there also.

Papa – Buck and Jimmy – so many memories of good times together!

When we are all together it is HAPPY THOUGHTS and HAPPY DAYS!

Now – we are all retired – still visiting each other – still playing golf –

Papa’s World – Some thoughts and pictures!

A little over three years ago – we decided to “CASH” out by selling our then-dream home –

in NVA. in Brambleton.

We had lived in that home for 14 1/2 years – and watched the community go from one High School to finishing the fourth H.S. when we moved on.

We were a metro ride to downtown Washington, D.C.

We had family there and they still are there in Winchester and Leesburg.

But – being retired – our 401 K took a big hit in the downturn – but housing went way up!

Plus – it was time – to move while we still had our health – to somewhere that we did not have to be in snow and ice!

We had thought about the Wilmington and Leland area in N.C.

We had friends there – and had spent vacations there.

By chance, while looking at rentals – I came across a condo in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Sitting on a small lake with fountains – it was ideal so we made the move during the pandemic.

We love playing “AT” golf – and down here it is affordable where it was not in NVA.

We found that right away we were in the middle of golfers paradise!

We could pick and choose – buying what is called THE FIRST TEE card for even more reduced rates.

But also If we had an address here – we could get what is called LOCAL RATES!

So – we started playing 2 or 3 times a month on different courses.

We had found our dream once again.

We ended up in a new community in OIB. Between the mainland and the ICW.

Near two beaches – pictured here is Sunset Beach – our favorite walking beach because it is so flat and easy to walk on.

The far right where the tall building is – that is Ocean Isle Beach – separated by a channel.

That is closest to us and is much more commercial.

We spend a lot of time there for concerts – and open air and enjoy Pelican Roost – a bar and grill for good eats.

We walk the streets there next to the canals.

We are minutes from either one and once again a dream came true for us – beach life!

During the first nine months, we lived in NMB at the condo – while building our last dream home.

We now are settled in – all landscaping is done – and all other add-ons we have done are done.

We have room for the entire family.

And they all have been here – from Pa. to Va.

Our dream life is shared with family and friends who have also been here.

Palm trees – flowers – bushes and protected tall live oaks and pine trees – our dream of where to live.

Our daughter and her two youngest daughters came for a surprise visit!

Saint Patrick’s parade in North Myrtle Beach – fun day with parade – vendors – three stages and six bands!

One of our favorite pastimes – golfing with lifelong friends!

Papa watched our granddaughter Ella trying to solve the maze on the beach. Did not solve it!

Our go-to system for growing our own veggies with no dirt or pesticides! Year around where we live!

I started this blog because I wanted to leave memories for generations to come – in pictures – thoughts – words and actions!

I grew up not really knowing my cousins – aunts or uncles – my sister was 15 years older than me and my brother was 10 years older.

By the time I came along – all those cousins were already that much older than me – and I just never knew them!

The few I did know – lived in the township and went to the other schools.

So – here are my blogs for the family now to have after I am gone – to know who we were and how we lived.

Sherry – we have been married 40 plus years – my soulmate and the one who guides me in health!

We are retired and living our life out in the Carolinas – where it is warm – I do not like cold and neither does she!

We live one day at a time – always exploring and doing new things – together!

The Tower Garden – the smaller unit can be used indoors with grow lights – the outdoor unit is larger – producing with just water – light and nutrients and air!

Our Tower Garden is covered up for freezing temps – looks like something from Star Wars! LOL

Christmas decorations for 2022 in our home in Cameron Woods Community – OIB, N.C. Our second Christmas here in our new home!

I do not run because I thud – thud – jarring my whole body – so I walk – almost every day 2 to 3 miles – and strive for 10,000 steps.

The closest beach to our home is four miles and is Ocean Isle Beach – with a pier and this entrance is the Community Center!

At Crooked Hammock in Barefoot Landing, S.C with family when they visited after Christmas but before New Year’s Eve!

PAPA’S WORLD: ” THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD – INNOCENCE”

Papa’s World – our very first Christmas Holidays in the new house – lights – and tree.

View from the street – just a few wreathes – garland and small lighted- decorated tree on the front porch.

Sherry wanted to keep it simple this year – I have all the decorations stored over the garage.

So – she climbed up there for the very first time ( she is not good with heights or ladders)

And was surprised how I had organized all the big plastic tubs of decorations.

I had put down a rug and lined everything stacked up all around it!

Easy to get to and open up!

My favorite spot to sit and sip my first cup of coffee for the day!

Keeping it simple – all the lights are on timers and batteries!

They run for six hours and shut off!

It has been too chilly to sit out here in the mornings – in the high 20’s and low 30’s!

Unusual for down here.

But – it warms up in the sunshine and we also get days in the high 60’s to mid-’70s!

The three Swedish horses were made by our three oldest granddaughters – MADDY – ELLA and SARAH

We decided some four or five years ago to forego these big bulky green trees!

They were big and bulky and went into a big zippered bag – that as I was getting older –

too heavy and bulky to lift up and place on the shelf.

So – we bought our bare-brown colored what I call our “CHARLIE BROWN TREE”!

It all comes apart -folds inward and into a long slender cardboard box!

It is not heavy and stores easily!

We also went to the WOODLAND ornaments – winter furry little things and people!

There are many sentimental ornaments that have meaning for us on there!

Just keeping everything simple for this first year in the new home.

I knew from the start over 40 years ago – I WANT TO SPEND MY LIFE WITH HER!

She pushes this each and every day with our grand daughters.

She is a natural born leader and speaker – writer – and promotes harmony.

EQUALITY – ADMIRATION – OPPORTUNITY – ENVIRONMENT – RELIGION – PEACE – HAPPINESS

EQUAL rights for all – she is very strong on that.

ADMIRATION – she is admired by her Team Generations that she formed fourteen years ago,

OPPORTUNITY – she promotes this to all – helping all who seek it.

ENVIRONMENT – Walking she sees something that belongs in the recycle bin – she picks it up and places it where it belongs – always has been that way.

RELIGION – the family way – leading in church activities – volunteering – food pantry – book club – altar guild.

Papa’s World – Sherry’s happy places!

When ever we are on the beach – she is drawn to the water – wading – watching the surfers.

The beach draws her – to let off stress and a quiet place to walk – the sounds of the surf – the warm waters.

With friends – out and about – exploring the world with these two – every couple years we plan a break.

Buck and Cindy are our close friends – we moved into a house next to them 36 1/2 years ago –

and had known thenm before that. We get along and enjoy much of the same things.

Cindy is very active as is Sherry – always on the go. They walk together when we are around.

Now – our new home is about 40 minutes away from them.

We try to golf once aweek or go out to a show or dinner.

Family has and always will play a part in our lives. Sherry now is the oldest – and they all look up to her.

Here is Bode in front row with the five grandaughters behind him.

She reminds me so much of her father – tall – slim – smile – always on the go and a born entrepreneur

He always was looking for a way to make money and she has that also.

Not afraid to stand up in front of people and talk.

And they played golf just alike!

I became very good friends with him before he passed away – he told me many things promising I would not repeat them. All had to do with the War and I shall keep that promise I made to him.

I repsected him that much – it was a bonding moment for him and me.

Sitting on the Intercoastal waterway – just her and me – watching the boats and having dinner.

She loves our new area – back in NVA she would take dozens of visitors on tour guides into DC.

She is a leader – a natural born one at that!

And now – our new home – close to the beaches and the ICW – close to golfing and close to friends –

A place for FAMILY to visit and room to have them.

This is her happy place once again – walking – meeting new neighbors –

exploring and in a area that does not have the freezing ice and snow.

The new lanai and her putting her finishing touches on it!

These are but a few of her happy places – places she feels most comfortable in.

We were born with almost the same birth date!

My birthday is 5 – 7 – 49 and hers is 7 – 5 – 49 !

We were meant to be!

So – I do not forget her birthday !

All these years – over 40 – she is as beautiful today as she was then.

Kind – smart – caring – giving – awareness – equal rights – compassion – god – church – community – and so on!

She is a one of a kind – a mother – a friend – companion –

In a little over one year – thanks to my wife Sherry –

I now have a following of 362 plus followers!

Of which I only know four of them!

The rest are from all over the USA and the WORLD!

Screen shot on a normal day – I never though this would happen – but I guess projecting good thoughts – happy family life and adventures of two 70 plus year old’s must appeal to people!
Sherry and Papa – (Tom) living our life one day at a time. Each day I am alive is a blessing! I do not take it for granted.

Sherry is the driving force behind my blog –

” YOU HAVE TO WRITE AND PUT IT SOMEWHERE – A PLACE WE CAN FIND – WHEN YOU ARE GONE”

That is the reality and I am okay with it!

I write for family – I write to record for future generations so they know who I was!

Each day I open the site – answer the comments and push on!

I include lots of pictures – they all tell a story.

Each day I start out not knowing what I will write about

I see a picture I have taken – a event we did – or where a day has taken us.

Then – I start – so far I have scheduled a month ahead in stories –

That way – is we are going someplace – all I have to do is share it to face book!

On here – it is automatically scheduled!

My hope and desire is to bring inner peace to those that read this – and to see – when adversity hits home – when death knocks on your door – there is a life beyond and each day is a blessing – one that had it gone the other way – well – I am happy it didn’t – and that is going to be my legacy – living life doing it my way – blog!

Papa’s World – A cool walk on the beach – 3.6 miles

We took our wind breakers – it started off cool!

But – soon they came off and wrapped around our waists.

” It was a cool day” – the song running through my head!

It was one of those days where we just walked and walked!

Sherry – looking at the reflection on the water

You – know – some days are better than others –

Some days you just get lost in your thoughts –

The soothing sound of the surf –

The birds – the warm Sun –

SOME DAYS ARE GOOD DAYS!

When you live one day at a time –

you reflect back on each of them.

What is the meaning of that day?

Moving forward – one step at a time.

The wonder of nature – the stillness of your mind –

Thinking – wondering and appreciating each moment in time.

Walking – walking – walking

The shells lay crushed beneath your steps

The sky is changing

life is moving on with each step you take.

My glasses are tinted – the reflection is a reflection of time passing

No words – just thoughts – memories flashing by –

Your mind reflecting back what you see.

The upen air – the smell of the sea –

the noise of life continuing on as it has for eons.

Your look at life – your events unfolding as you walk.

You gaze forward realizing you have waled a long ways!
The end of the beach walk – WOW! 3.6 miles – just like that!

Without thinking – without knowing the distance as it past by you –

You have walked and walked – 3.6 miles!

Life is certainly good when all it takes is time – thoughts and memories –

It happens like that –

The night before we came back home to N.VA. – we drove 45 minutes South

Near Pawley’s Island S.C

to “BROOK GREEN”!

( and we will go back in warmer weather – to see it again in daylight!)

Huge Oak trees – with hanging lights – almost from the top!
Reflections in the water of lights!

The whole place – hundreds of acres – is dressed up in colored themes –

and over 1000 candles lit by hand!

Bronze statues are everywhere!

Some of the 1000 candles lit by hand!
Candles and lights – everywhere we went – a different theme – and colorful lights!
There were food trucks and a tent set up with drinks – hot chocolate – coffee and tea as well as water – soft drinks and beer!
So many different areas lit up – hard to capture them all!
You had to stay on the paths – and after dark – you could easily get lost in the maze of light!
Hanging moss lit up!
Paper lanterns lit in red and white colors!
Like fire flies in the sunset!
Sculptures with light reflecting on the water!

There must be a lot of volunteers to do all of this!

And – we only saw part of the park –

there also is a zoo here but was closed!
