Papa’s World – HUMOR in the world of golf!

Good day, everyone!

Humor goes a long way in a round of golf!

Here – Sherry, Bob and Pam, and I-

enjoy nine holes of golf in Florida!

After all –

For me,

It is that ONE SHOT that brings me back time after time!

It is the most stressful game I have ever played!

But also the most enjoyable game I have ever played.

AND THIS IS ME IN THE ABOVE!

Playing golf with friends –

It is a fun-filled day –

Good shots and bad shots –

But I always have a fun time!

LOL – But is this a “GIMMIE PUTT” if it is for par or birdie?

Always a fun-filled day when these three get together to golf!

Or for drinks! LOL

LOL – how true this is!

Jimmy – my friend –

from back in Eldred, Pa.

Before golf –

We played softball together in the mid-70s!

All these years later –

Still close friends and now playing golf –

At least I try to! LOL!

In my world of golf –

So true –

But hitting that one shop or making that long putt-

So worth the frustration!

I hope I brought some HUMOR to your golf game today!

Thanks for reading –

Papa’s World – Golfing Meadowlands with friends.

Bob – Pam and Sherry –

as we are about to tee it off at MEADOWLANDS GOLF COURSE!

The Goodmans came for a visit –

staying at Sea Trails –

a couple miles from us.

Bob and I went golfing there a-

and the girls did some shopping!

This day was for all four of us –

to play a best ball scramble –

and what a beautiful day it was!

Throughout the 18 holes –

you could putt off the fairways!

It was in great shape!

A mild 74 degrees –

the heat wave had passed –

and mild weather was in place!

Pam – Sherry and Bob –

checking out the ball we choose to play!

I got lucky and hit a good drive –

putting us just past-

the 150-yard marker to the green!

We all hit some good shots –

and some not-so-good!

Watching the threesome in front of us –

We had to wait a lot –

as the course was packed.

But – it was a sunny day with a slight breeze –

and we did not mind!

Golfing with lifelong friends –

It doesn’t get much better than that!

Papa’s World – Extended friends long weekend!

FRIENDS – for decades –

getting together – playing golf – bantering –

and just generally enjoying each other’s company.

SIX of us are from WNY and NWPA –

all living within miles of each other –

three of us grew up in the same little town.

Four of us became friends in Va. Beach –

and now six of us all live in N.C.

Always it seems smiling –

But ready to put the dagger in on the golf course! LOL

They barter for “STROKES” and then beat us!

I keep telling JIMMY – NO STROKES!

But – this barter is all part of the fun-filled golfing for two days!

Warm weather, white clouds,

and good friends make for a fun weekend!

PAPA’S WORLD – EXTENDED WEEKEND OF GOLFING WITH FRIENDS!

Papa’s World – Saint Bonaventure Golf Course.

Saint Bonaventure University Western New York outside of Olean N.Y.

We lived in this area most of our lives together

The hills – rolling meadows

the lush greenery and yes snow.

But we also belonged to the Bona’s Golf Course!

Situated right next to the very large cemetery

and right across the highway from the University –

sits a nine hole course where we attempted to play golf

sometimes twice a week!

There are special holes here I remember

one is at the tee box of number FIVE

where you are up on a knoll

looking down but out across the trees to the campus

and the hills in many colors of the fall.

Just a beautiful peaceful view.

And then number SIX

where I recorded my only HOLE IN ONE!

Looking across number TWO fairway to number THREE!

The beauty of the course in all seasons

well – in my thought – not SNOW! LOL

But people cross country ski here in the winter.

And now – a brand new clubhouse built overlooking the course

in the exact same place as the old one

which I all the time hit!

The new clubhouse at Saint Bonaventure University

The old club house held many memories

of dinners – events and celebrations for us to remember.

But now – it is brand new

offering a view of numbers one – two and three.

And in the splendor of the fall foliage

The last time we were there

the course was in excellent shape

and I still see the views in my mind.

The course can be challenging

and sort of lulls you to wonderment of the views.

Number SEVEN – very hard to hold the green

if you are short it will roll 75 yards back down the slope

too far and you are in a steep back with 12 in rough!

In its splendor – lush green – views for miles.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

If you are ever in Western New York –

about 65 miles South of Buffalo and you play golf

Just across the road from Saint Bonaventure University

sits a nine hole course we learned to play together

Take the time to take it all in and play nine!

Papa’s World – Golfing with friends!

While not that serious – we do enjoy golfing –

and we have close friends who live 40 minutes away – but they love coming towards us to play all these courses!

They live at Magnolia Greens – home to 27 nice golf holes!

Sherry – Papa – Cindy and Buck –

They were our neighbors in the early to mid-90s in Portville, N.Y.

We played golf then and they moved to N.C.

We then moved in 1999 in a transfer for the company to Va.

But we stayed in contact and took many vacations together over the World!

Sherry – about to tee off on a par three –

We also would come down to their home to spend some time with them –

and they would come up to NVA and spend time with us.

Waiting for the group in front of us!

Cindy getting ready to tee off!

The course at Magnolia Greens was in such great shape.

Eyeing the green from the fairway –

A view of the fairway while the ladies tee off!

Here Cindy and I both reached the green in two – but we two putted for a par.

This day we only played nine holes – but we scored and shot a 37 – one over par – in a scramble!

Playing golf together and then going home to one another’s house for dinner!

The day before we played Brunswick Plantation –

GOLFING WITH FRIENDS – PAPA’S WORLD!

Papa’s World – Ocean Ridge – golf at LIONS PAW!

Seventy-plus degrees at 1pm. Buck, Cindy, Sherry, and I teed it up – let golfing begin!

Ocean Ridge is right across the street from Cameron Woods Community –

in fact, part of Ocean Ridges homes are in our community!

Ocean Ridge is home to what in the golfing world are “THE BIG CATS” golf courses.

There are three 18-hole courses – LIONS PAW – LEOPARDS CHASE – and TIGERS EYE!

When we golf together – we either play gals vs. guys or do a four-way scramble.

Here we are hitting our second shot on a par five – all of us were close to this spot in the middle.

Cindy and Sherry close to 5pm. on the last hole – it dropped down to the mid-60s – but we still had sun.

A fun course and we only had one golfer come up behind us and we let him play through!

The ladies tee box and Sherry and Cindy getting ready to tee off!

PAPA’S WORLD – OCEAN RIDGE – GOLF AT LIONS PAW!!!!!

Papa’s World – Sunday afternoon golf with friends.

One of my trials and tribulations – I am terrible at putting!

We got together on Sunday afternoon to golf at Colonial Charters Golf Course –

Which was our first time there.

It was a narrow but fun course and we golfed with our close friends – Buck and Cindy!

Cindy – Sherry and Buck – live at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, N.C.

about 33 miles from us.

We have been friends since the late 80’s.

Neighbors before they moved South some 6 or 7 years before we did.

Buck teeing off – we generally play a scramble – this day we shot a 38-40 – for a 78 – good for us.

Our first time playing this course and it was both challenging and fun.

We all have what is called THE FIRST TEE – which gives us a discount on 52 different courses!

Buck – Cindy – Papa and Sherry – golfing is our passion

Sherry on one of the holes before we went to Tee Off!

This is one of our dreams to move South – play golf – enjoy good friends – and live our dream!

Sherry teeing off – right down the middle – PAPA’S WORLD – my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

SUNDAY AFTERNOON GOLF WITH FRIENDS! PAPA’S WORLD – LIVING OUR DREAMS!

Papa’s World – Mini golf in a Volcano – North Myrtle Beach.

Cassidy – Taylor – Bode – our three youngest grandchildren – always when they come to visit – we let them pick a mini golf course to play on.

This time it was in North Myrtle Beach at the “VOLCANO” and they played the course inside the mountain!

Cassidy – who eventually won – takes her putt toward the hole!

I thought it to be too dark inside with the colored lighting!

Bode tries his skill – he came in second! It was unique in that it was all air-conditioned inside and hot outside!

Taylor is about to make her putt – she came in third – they all had fun – next year Cassidy picks the course.

BODE: MINI GOLF IN A VOLCANO – NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Papa’s World – Friends gather – girls play golf and WIN!

Buck and I get ready to tee off ahead of the ladies – they want to follow us!

We went to The Links at Bricklanding – on the ICW before the course after two holes go to the other side of the highway and you play along the marsh.

Craig and Jim get ready to hit – the ICW is on the right side and the ponds are on the left side.

Up by the green is another pond and the fairway is only 30 yards wide!

We started out and played a scramble as did the ladies.

This course eats up golf balls – and it did this day!

We get together every so often to play a scramble – Gals vs. Guys

The last one the guys one by one stroke and they missed a putt on the last hole to tie!

Dottie and Debbie – both live in Va. Beach – Dottie has been my friend for over 44 years!

Dottie and Debbie became friends when Dottie and Jim moved to Va. Beach.

Sherry and Cindy – Buck and Cindy have been our friends for over 35 years – we were neighbors

back in WNY – They moved to Magnolia Greens 26 years ago and we moved to NVA.

We have stayed friends all these years and now live 38 miles from them after moving to OIB in N.C.

Debbie – Dottie – Cindy and Sherry – while we beat them heads up – with the strokes –

they won the match – and I told the guys – NO MORE STROKES – they are too good!

Papa’s World – Life in pictures – memories!

Bode – now 8 – Cassidy – now 12 – Taylor – now 12 – Sarah – now 16 – Ella – now 19 and Maddy – now 22 – grandchildren.

Cindy and Sherry – golfing partners – the first time we golfed – they wore mittens and looked on in wonder as we washed out balls on the course! LOL

A little humor and laughs!

Guess – am I “IRISH”! My family on my dad’s side came from County Tyrone in Ireland.

On a wine-tasting trip in Sonoma Valley in California. Sherry and Papa!

PAPA’S WORLD – on the ICW – OIB and SUNSET BEACH – LIFE IN PICTURES – MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – GOLF – always a trial and error!

Getting older has its little perks – like moving up a tee box on the course!

I have been attempting to play golf since I was around twelve years old – when my dad joined a club with a family membership!

My younger brother and I would just go out and play while my dad played with his friends.

My younger brother became a scratch golfer while I seemed to go the other way.

My older brother was also around par golf or a little over.

The genes seemed to be spread out between them – me – I am the one who hits a good shot at the end and wants to come back for more!

But that is why I love to play – SOMETIMES I do hit it straight and can putt!

For me, it is out in the open – fairways and greens – sand traps and water hazards!

I seem to find them all plus trees and bushes.

Whatever the club is – I seem to find everything except the MIRACLE!

But when I do – it brings me back again and again!

PAPA’S WORLD – GOLF – ALWAYS A TRIAL AND ERROR!!!!!

Papa’s World – Taking the ladies to the driving range!

Sherry and two other neighbor ladies wanted to hit balls so I took them.

MARCEA to the left and DIANE to the right.

The ladies will go to Sandpiper on Monday late afternoon for a golf lesson and nine holes of play!

So the two above wanted to hit some golf balls just to get their swings back.

We talked about it and I said I would drive them to the range!

I also hit a few down at the end.

I asked the owner if we could hit off the grass instead of the mat and he put us over on the side!

THIS IS ME – I lose a lot and find a few – but I just like being out there!

SHERRY – DIANE – MARCEA – I took the photo – they soon were hitting the balls – I gave some instructions –

and they all appreciated it – now if I could only follow my own advice! LOL

PAPA’S WORLD – TAKING THE LADIES TO THE DRIVING RANGE!

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing with friends on a Friday late afternoon.

A call came on Wednesday – can you make 4:30 pm. if I make tee times on Friday?

Of course, we can – make them and we will be there – and so we did.

Sherry and I left early as we wanted to do some things in Wilmington, N.C.

Unless we go for a certain thing or event – we do not get there all that often.

We were golfing at Magnolia Greens located some eleven miles from the city.

Our friends live there and I think it to be one of the better courses down here.

Twenty-seven holes – and we were playing just nine this late afternoon.

Now it looks like we are looking for balls in the water – but we were in a huge sand trap on a par three – Cindy was raking the sand and Buck and I were picking up my ball and going to play his on the grass.

LOL story of my life!

We once again played a scramble against the ladies and once again we lost!

We had a couple bad holes – but we also played well – here we are on in two – par four hole and a putt for a birdie – which we did not make and ended up with a par.

You can see where Bucks putt went and I had still had to putt – did not make it and we settled for a par.

I love golf on TV!

It turned out to be a great day – beautiful weather – no humidity – 80 degrees!

Thanks for reading Papa’s World – my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa’s World – Magnolia Greens – golfing with friends on a late Friday afternoon.

Papa’s World – an old saying – “You have to have BALLS to golf the BRICK” landing that is!

House along the fairway at BRICK LANDING golf course – near Shallotte, N.C.

Thirteen minutes from home is an older course called Brick Landing.

Three of its holes run right along the ICW – and then across the road and along the marshes.

Papa standing on a tee box with the ICW in the background and boats speeding by!
Beautiful tree with the marsh behind it on the fairway!

The course has lots of water on both sides of the fairways –

and what seems like a good shot – well the ball runs and runs and soon you are in the water!

Sherry on one of the tee boxes at Brick Landing golf course with the ICW in the background!

Thanks for reading – I will continue in the next blog – be sure when you play the BRICK – you bring BALLS!

Papa’s World – the day before my birthday – at Carolina National – friends and golf.

The day before my birthday – we celebrated with our close friends – Buck and Cindy –

She even baked chocolate chip cookies for me!

Cindy Sherry Buck – Carolina National – a Fred Couples course.
Sherry is about to tee off right down the middle.
We play a scramble – guys vs. gals – Buck hitting from where my drive ended up.
Cindy – perfect form and they whipped us pretty well!
Sherry – senses victory – they played great – us – not so good – but I got the cookies!

Carolina National – outside Supply, N.C. second time we have played here – a good course!

After we finished up at 6:30 pm. we headed into the clubhouse for dinner –

although they quite handily won the scramble – we always have fun

and will get together again to continue our years-old match of gals vs guys!

Papa’s World – New Year’s Eve – Solo Stove fire – Golf chipping game!

The group on Sunset Beach – toasting the sunset – then moving on to our back yard and the Solo Stove!
The backyard – patio and our Solo Stove firepit.

We left the beach at sunset and moved to our new home – started the fire and played a chipping game.

Our plan was to enjoy the mild weather before moving inside – snacking and Karaoke!

Debby and Mike had gotten this for me for Christmas.

We spent time outside – sitting around the fire and chipping golf balls at this target.

People also sat in the lanai – while others sat around the fire. And also a putting contest that Cindy had brought – Jim and Buck were the champs!
We all moved inside to eat and set up the Karaoke – and have a few drinks!

It was a fun evening – but still hours away from midnight!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – My oldest friend – my next to the oldest friend – they had never met – now they are friends!

I would say all three of us need to do this! LOL

Bobby and I go back to grade school in the mid-’50s and then onto graduation.

Jimmy and I go back to the very early ’70s and the start of playing softball for ten years or more.

Both have been in my majority of life although separately – never meeting one another.

That all changed when they both came to visit and now today they are also friends.

Bobby hitting first across the water to the green – Jimmy watching and will hit next – we played a scramble.

Bob’s wife Pam and my wife Sherry – went away for an extended weekend to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tenn.

To Gatlinburg and a health conference with 12 other ladies!

We decided to do this and play some golf.

We went across the street from Cameron Woods – Ocean Isle Beach where we live and play one of the BIG CAT COURSES!

There are four of them over there and this one is called Panther’s Run.

Jimmy putting it on the green with the second shot

They hit it off right away – Jimmy is about eight years younger than us – Bob knew his family but was long gone from Eldred when Jim and I started playing softball together.

Bobby laughed at something Jimmy said.
Jimmy after making the approach shot to the green.
Time to contact the wife!
Another approach shot on the green.
Nothing but the truth here! LOL
And of course, we headed to a Tiki Bar at Jinks Creek to have a drink and dinner!

Papa’s World – golfing with friends at Carolina National – a Fred Couples course.

Buck Cindy Sherry – getting ready to tee it off!

We journeyed North to Bolivia N.C. to meet up at CAROLINA NATIONAL GOLF COURSE!

Twenty seven holes and a signature Fred Couples course.

Our first time here -and we are golfing different courses each week.

It was a Monday afternoon with 2:12 pm. tee times.

It was a great gold day – high 70’s – slight breeze – blue skies – white and gray clouds –

lots of sunshine and very good friends!

Game on – girls vs boys!

Cindy – teeing off – Sherry spotting the ball!
Sherry teeing off – note: BOTH of them always hit it straight down the middle!

They are so hard to beat – never in trouble – down the middle and hitting almost every green in regulation!

And – darn it – one will make the putt!

We really try to beat them – but the first nine – well it was not pretty!

All smiles – ready for the back nine! Time to pull it together! We got off to a good start – going up 2 after the first three holes – and then four by the fifth!
But they started coming back – we pared -they had a birdie!
Going into the last hole – we were up by one!

We got into trouble – they didn’t – they parred – we boggied!

Tied the final nine! Let this one slip through but we had a great time!

Drove to Oak Island – and found a BBQ place still open at 7 pm.

We have been doing this for years – guys vs. gals – always fun – but they are good!

Papa’s World – golfing Magnolia Greens – home course of friends – beautiful!

Sherry and Cindy – they decided to walk the 18 holes – Sherry got a new pull cart!

I actually believe these 27 holes compare to the best in the area including Myrtle Beach!

On this day – the flowers were in full bloom and reminded me of Augusta!

Almost every hole was like this!
A view of the driving range from the outdoor patio of the clubhouse!
Sherry Cindy and Buck – having a beverage on the outdoor patio after 18 holes!
On one of the tee boxes – everything was blooming!

We have played this course many times over the years!

They have called this home for at least twenty years.

Having bought and sold and built here many times.

This is the main reason we came South to this general area.

Our new home will be about 40 minutes away –

so daily golf is available!

Sherry on the patio of their home that overlooks one of the large waterways on the course!
Cindy on the same patio of their home looking in a different direction from Sherry!
Cindy was to the left – Sherry to my right and Buck straight across from me – looking at the course across the water!

This is the second home they have built here – both in this water area and both had like views –

only this one is downsized from the other one.

Buck and I on the tee box about to tee off!

We – Buck and I – did our usual scramble – and we had a record for us – we shot a 39 with a double boogie the last hole!

If you are ever in N.C. just South of Leland and Wilmington – this is a public course – 27 holes – stop in and make a tee time – it will surprise you and you will love it – one of the best around the area!

Papa’s World – ringing in the New Year – Friends and golf – catch phrase!

Cindy Sherry Dottie

Once again we celebrated a new year with friends.

Making sure we all were social distancing

before we met up – and the game was on!

THE GAME – golf – four strokes on the highest handicapped holes per side for the ladies.

Jim and I play from the yellows – Buck and ladies from the reds.

Front nine – with the handicap – 38 – 39 ladies! Par 36.

Jim and Buck

The second nine – 39 to 41 – guys! par 36.

When they are on – they are tough to beat – always down the middle.

Sherry – par three drive – putt for birdie – they all missed the putt! But – you can see – they are tough to beat!
The group of us have been friends for years and years – playing golf is part of that friendship.
Buck Papa Jim – getting ready to tee off.

The second day – same rules – front nine – 39 to 41 – guys!

Different course – and this was a day after playing a game called CATCH PHRASE!

Now – we just not seem to win at this! LOL!

Or the card game which Cindy overtook me on the last hand! LOL

Cindy practice swings before teeing it up!

The second nine – 40 to 44 – guys!

Finally – we were able to beat them after 18 holes the second day –

it had rained all night – course was so wet – you had to have a ball retriever

for the middle of the fairway!

Cindy – getting ready to line up the shot!

2020 still has its fun times.

2020 – well – you make the most of it when you can!

You watch a little bit of the BUFFALO BILLS!

We all are from BILLS territory

we all were there for the run of FOUR SUPER BOWLS in a row!

And now – as we all moved South –

We once again are watching them!

Keeps us in touch!
We now are playing Pickle Ball and Golf and card games!

We try to play as much golf as we can now that we are in the South!

Our friends – Buck and Cindy are 45 miles away

so we can meet up halfway and play!

Cindy Papa Sherry Buck

Once a week since we have moved down here.

There are over 100 courses to select from!

Papa’s World – Golfing Leopards Chase – Gold!

Good morning – a cloudy start to our day of golf with friends!

Leopards Chase – Gold course – situated in Ocean Ridge Plantation

Along with THREE other courses – all named after

Big Cats of Prey!

Cindy Sherry Buck on the green – now to select where we are putting from

We have decided to build a house – in the long run –

it will work out the same or cheaper than buying!

The market keeps going up for resales on houses

and we can build and have brand new for the same!

Cindy and Sherry – down the middle is normal for them – Cindy getting yardage to the pin!

And we will build right across the road from this and three other courses

in what is called Cameron Woods!

In fact within a 5 mile radius –

20 golf courses and two beaches

Ocean Isle beach and Sunset beach.

We had searched and searched – condos – houses- apartments

and by chance we found this – and the model –

Sherry once again had her dream home!

And it knocked off about 45 minutes for the drive back to NVA!

Sherry hitting off the middle to the green – water to the left!

All we are waiting for now is the plans to be final

and then a meeting with the construction manager

to go over those plans

and then a start and probable finish date

4 to 6 months start to finish!

By the time you are reading this

we will have already done that!

Buck and me – it was a great time to golf with friends on a very good course – to think there are three more in here and it is a mile from where we will live!
Cindy hitting fro the fairway to the green!

We love this area – the drive to both beaches is less than 15 minutes

Shopping is 6 minutes

Calabash is 15 minutes

and Route 17 is ten minutes.

Our friends house is about 30 to 40 minutes

And a lot of places to dine out on the I.C.W.!

We have extended our stay where we are until the end of June

hoping that the build will be done

We have to buy furniture and move what we have in storage

down here.

Cindy – Buck – Papa – Sherry we are golfing regular now – mostly with our friends – whom we have golfed with for about 30 years!
A lot of the golf cart paths run through the sand – we saw no gators but not sure if they are here or not – but saw signs for snakes!
Cindy and Sherry discussing their next shot as we let a twosome play through – these ladies are serious and hard to tie!

We did not want to go farther South –

we wanted a temperate climate

and still be 7 hours to home!

Bridge to number 18 – the final hole with waterfall!

We have found that place here – among the golf courses and beaches

but still only a 30 minute drive to North Myrtle Beach

which we have become fond of!

Number 18 – Leopards Chase – Gold Course!

Papa’s World – Oyster Bay – Golf and “ALLIGATORS”!

Alligator laying in the backyard of someones house! Across the water from the putting green!

Our friends – Jim – Dottie – Buck and Cindy – came for a visit!

And we planned to golf two different days!

The last day was at Oyster Bay – not very far from Calabash

The Seafood capital of the world

and home to many – many “GATORS” on the course!

BIG GATORS!

Jim & Buck

We had a gals vs guys match

and off we went –

I had listened to other players who had finished

talking to the starter about the “GATORS”

and how big they were!

Just laying there almost seemed it was dead until it moved its head!

We saw them a lot – esp. on the middle holes!

The ladies putting behind us – we were able to tell them where the “GATORS” were.

One par three – surrounded by water – except a small walking path

lined with flowers and tall bushes

kind of sketchy walking through there

had a drop zone right next to the green.

And a large sand trap.

Well – right next to the drop zone lay a six foot gator!

Dottie actually hit her ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the drop zone!

Where she left it for some future golfer to find as it ws too close

to that six foot gator!

We had a good time regardless –

you just did not look for golf balls as I think snakes are also here!

Me taking a picture of Jimmy taking a picture of two gators – one to his left and one to his right – the one on the left was very big!
Cindy about to hit from the fairway – they are always in the middle which makes it so hard to beat them!
Sherry lining up her putt – they also are always putting for either birdie or par!
Jimmy hitting his Tee shot. Look close in the middle just between the fairway and trees – his ball going down the middle!
Dottie playing her approach shot two strokes from there for par.
The “GATOR” laying next to the sand trap and drop zone!
They pared this hole!
Beautiful but a lot of “GATORS” in there!
People live here despite the “GATORS”!

We enjoyed this course despite the “GATORS”

being a fun course to play.

Lots of fairways and marsh – small lakes – water everywhere!

Again right down the middle!
My co – pilot – Buck!

Sherry and Cindy – Dottie walked to her ball

And yes – on the course called OYSTER BAY!

With all the “GATORS”!

It came down to the last hole – number 18 !

We had a boggy – long par 5 – missed putt and they pared!

GALS ONE UP AFTER 18

35 to 36!

70 to 71 !!!!!

I told you Jimmy – they are too good!

Papa’s World – Golfing at Thistle – Calabash N.C.

We have now golfed our second course since we moved to S.C.

THISTLE A SCOTTISH THEMED COURSE WITH LOTS OF WATER

We had a chance to grab tee times at this sought after course.

The whole theme is of Scotland

with the club house and grounds

and the road onto and into the course.

This part of N.C. close to the ocean is rather flat

but they molded this course into bunkers

with six tee boxes on each hole!

I was impressed at just how much they changed the landscape.

Plus – there is a lot of water hazards here!

And something you do not see in Scotland – GATORS!

This big one was sunning itself on the back side

of a raised green – and from the fairway

you could not see it!

Good thing no had hit long

because as I walked back to line up my putt

there it was!

Sherry and Cindy also saw another one when then went to find a ball

next to a water hazard

and carefully got out of there!

It was a great course – and because of the tees we played

we avoided a lot of water where they were!

A look at one of the many many water hazards!
Gator laying on the bank sunning itself
Sherry hitting from the fairway
Cindy hitting from fairway – they both are never in trouble always down the middle
Climbing the bank to the elevated green
Getting ready to tee off
And the dawn breaking of the day we went golfing from our Lanai

We always have fun golfing with Cindy and Buck

now that we are down here – they live about 40 minutes away

so we make tee times to play

this being the fourth time we have played together

since we came down late September and stayed with them for 5 days!

Sherry getting ready to hit

Papa’s World – golfing at Sandpiper Bay – dinner at Clark’s!

Buck ready to tee it off!

Our friends – Cindy and Buck

live about 40 miles from where we are staying.

And – for 25 years or so

have been coming to this area to play golf.

Buck told me he has played

on 85 different courses here in that time!

Cindy ripping a shot down the middle
Sherry hitting her second shot down the middle

We play a game every time we golf together

recently it has been guys vs girls!

And – I say no strokes

because it always ends up 1 or 2 strokes either way.

They both are always in the middle!

Buck goes first and depending where he goes – is what I do next.
With me – I never know – left – middle or right

Try as I might – it is a guess where I end up.

But – we always have fun – chirping back and forth Cindy and I!

I say NO STROKES – she says YES STROKES!

Last two times out – they have beaten us by 3 and then 2 strokes!

On the first one we gave strokes ( 3)

and the second time here – zero strokes.

They are just too good and never in trouble.

Always in the middle on every shot!

Down the middle!
Ended up on the green!

In a few weeks – our other friends will be joining us

and we once again will play girls vs. the guys.

The Browns – the McBrides and us.

Buck and Cindy at dinner at Clark’s

After golf at Sandpiper Bay – we met Sherry’s sister Debby

who drove down to spend 4 or 5 days with us.

We had dinner sitting outside by the marina

A view of the boats
Harbor dining

We had a excellent dinner

recapping stories since it has been a while since they have seen her sister.

Sherry Papa Buck Cindy Debby

It was the perfect end to a great day!

We lost – they won –

and until we play again

I always enjoy this – NO STROKES – laughing!

Papa Cindy Sherry Buck

They are just too good!

Papa’s World – before we leave – one last time!

I said to my son in law –

“Sherry made tee times – 4:00 PM. Do you and Tammy want to play”?

And so it was – as we get ever so closer to leaving –

We went to Algonkian Golf Course –

among the deer once more!

This time not as many – but there were a lot of deer – just driving into the course

We discovered this course last year after living here for 21 years!

Only by accident as the kids went together and bought us gift cards

to golf at the County Golf Courses!

There are three of them – and we had played the Brambleton Coures

just a mile from our home.

The other one was a good hour away

but this one was 30 minutes away and near our church.

They said yes – and we went on Monday afternoon – labor day!

It was not crazy busy – and we actually got to tee off early.

What a fun time – Sherry said she loves this course.

This was our third time to play it.

Once last year with Buck and Cindy –

then a couple weeks ago with Jayson and Ginger

and this time with Tammy and Marcus.

Marcus about to hit his second ball

This course is a regular links course – but very flat –

trees everywhere – and narrow fairways – and “DEER”!

I was within 10 feet of two deer grazing

They are very tame and are in packs –

They are laying down or just in the high weeds.

They are by the greens or tee boxes.

They are not afraid and this whole area is a public park.

There is a walking path that runs right through the golf course

with hundreds of people walking – running or biking.

Social activity is abound here.

We both seem to play well here – as the fairways are very narrow

but run right next to the next fairway –

separated by dozens of mature trees!

Each tee box has five different tee’s.

Marcus and Tammy

If you hit the ball short and straight

you tend not to get into trouble

I have slowed my swing down

and found that I am mostly down the middle some

175 to 200 yards.

Sherry is consistent – 125 to 150 yards.

If I line her up correctly she hits where she is aiming!

Being in control is where it is at for us in golf!

Our closest friends for over 38 years.

Soon – I am hoping when we go South

We shall once again join up with our old friends to golf.

After all – we have been doing this for years and years.

Sherry and the deer

But ALGONKIAN GOLF COURSE will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Just like back home in NWPA Kane Golf Course has a place.
