Papa’s World – crafting with MORMOR!

MORMOR – Swedish for MOTHERS-MOTHER – that has become her name for the three little ones!

Sherry has introduced crafts to all the grand kids –

and to this day – the three older ones still do crafts!

Taylor Bode Cassidy 10 6 10 years old.

All you have to do is say craft and the go right to the table – no fuss!

Busy once again – crafting – she teaches them and now Cassidy helps the other two. She is the one who texts – calls or zooms her MORMOR every day!
Cassidy – who can do any craft by herself – and often sets by herself with her IPAD – listening to instructions and creates pictures and drawings that are much larger than what she sees on the IPAD – drawing freestyle!

The older ones have that same talent – Ella has won awards for her creations.

Taylor – whom loves her alone time – building farms – houses – horses out of LEGO’S!
Bode -the one who is hard to slow down – always on the move – loves his craft time with MORMOR!

She teaches them – one at a time – not only crafts – but life itself!

Here they are after creating their make a shell wish – and MorMor helping to hang those wishes!

PAPA’S WORLD – livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Papa’s World – Living life to the plus – one day at a time – blessed that I can!

Another in the series of my year in review blogs – 2020.

Well – where do I start – I have lived another year – in most cases – I wouldn’t be here!

2020 has been a very strange year – but – here I am – living through it!

For those that do not know – seven years ago I had a heart attack!

Not your normal one if there is such a thing –

but they called it a “WIDOW MAKERS” one.

I ended up with FOUR BY PASSES!

and walked out of the hospital 52 hours after surgery!

We have grand children – and I am blessed to see a picture such as this!

So – a year in review of 2020 – it is scary – frustrating – wonderful – satisfying –

nerve wracking – joyful – nail biting – and any other adjective you can throw in there!

But – here we are on another adventure – after selling our house during a pandemic – living our lives one day at a time!

You never know as I can attest – just what the day before you can bring!

Now – we are building a new home near Ocean Isles Beach – N.C.

And being careful – wearing our masks when we are close to people and inside!

I see no sane reason to refuse to do that because it infringes on your liberties!

Come on you folks – who protest this – it is a common being nice sort of thing!

We old folks – well we have been around and wish to continue to be around –

so just wear them – it will not hurt you – and it may save me from covid19!

There – that is my take on the pandemic!

It is indeed a strange year – one of challenges but joy when you see your family!

ZOOM is now a big part of that – staying in touch with virtual meetings –

church and religion – shopping and home delivery!

And the times you spend with friends after quarantine!

We stay safe so we can enjoy friends – getting tested – being careful –

2020 has brought many strange things into our lives –

Who could imagine every day walking the sands and surf of the beach!

2020 – with all its quirks – and I am living to see it!

So – you see – I count my days as blessings – no matter what comes before me.

Yep – happens to me – but who cares!

In this past year – we have become more and more dependent on each other.

We have become closer to family if that is at all possible.

2020 has taught me things –

2020 has in a way – been a comfort for me in that we are once again

on a adventure – every day – planning – looking – exploring!

The sun rises with the one you love!

Papa’s World – hiking the trail with the Myers family – grand daughters!

Debby Sarah Sherry Maddy Papa Mike Ella

I love this picture – I told Sherry we need to get it blown up and framed!

And – it all happened in a space of two or thee minutes!

Maddy took her phone – while we all just sort of found a place –

put it up and braced it on a tree limb –

set the timer for 6 seconds and “BOOM”

there it was!

We went back to the new trail – but this time – the whole family went!

This family hikes all the time – that is their form of family time together!

Mike will take the older two – Maddy and Ella – overnight hiking!

He would take Sarah – but she is into more like N.Y.City hiking!

Sarah – but she is the adventure type – always climbing – swinging from vines – exploring woods and meadows.

She is the one I think really likes it but has aspirations of one day dancing – acting – fashion –

But once you do get her out there – no boundry is off limits – being the free spirit she is!

Ella – come on – follow me!
Ella is 5 ‘ 8 1/2 ” Sarah who just turned 14 – I think will be taller – both taking after their grand mother Sherry – who is 5’ 9″

We made it a family day hiking – where Debby – Sherry and I had gone the day before!

A new trail within the city limits of Winchester Va.

When it is completed – with all the side trails and loops

you pretty much can get a easy five miles in!

YEP! there are also pastures and cows!
Walking the trail – Ella Maddy Sarah Mike Papa the trail is made of crushed limestone the whole way! Easy to walk on and not trip!

This day was somewhat cool but warm in the Sun!

And we made a day of it as long as we could.

Many volunteers keep this project going

helping to clear out brush

and maintaining the cut area’s!

There is a farm silo – which you can walk into – and look up and see this. A hand crank on the wall – makes these turn in opposite directions – providing the look of birds soaring in the clouds!
A old farm tractor just sitting there offering a photo opportunity!
Thank you for reading Papa’s World – where friends like you meet our family!

A DAY HIKING THE TRAIL WITH THE MYERS FAMILY!

Papa’s World – tomorrow – time to VOTE!

One of our RIGHTS under the Constitution is VOTING!

To exercise that right is to cast a ballot

for whomever you feel is the right person.

Personally – I am a Moderate Independent

Leaning both left and right on major issues.

I walk the line so to speak.

I believe in kindness – a helping hand – I also believe in the American dream

Hard work – paying taxes – infrastructure – fair wages

equal opportunity.

A strong military and civil law.

Charity begins at the top

gratitude works upward.

Free religion – freedom of speech

and the right to peaceful protest.

Truth and honesty – leadership –

equal rights and pay for women.

Elections free from intimidation

Voting places for all.

Being able to defend ourselves

I believe in the 2nd Amendment

but not the wholesale of weapons

designed for killing many in a few seconds.

I believe in Democracy

for I believe this to be the best Country in the World.

With all it’s warts and deeply rooted bias

Education – freedom of speech

Justice fair and equally

Being Patriotic

is far from the description of the above

History of the above has been with us since the beginning

We have a choice

either way exercise that choice

VOTE TOMORROW!

Papa’s World – tour continues Halls of Congress – the Capital

Set up for interviews
The floor of the Rotunda
below
Reporter or newscaster

We walked in wonder – I was amazed at seeing History !

I have loved History all my life –

this day I felt I walked among it !

The ceiling of the Rotunda
Looking up
the wall
and all the reliefs
The Rotunda
where Presidents
have been viewed

The statues – the floor – the walls and the ceiling

spoke centuries of thought to me.

Each state has a statue
or more !

There are so many statues – that we were told –

They had to move them to another room

as the weight was causing structural damage to the floor.

That room had been closed off for interior work being done!

The original statue
that was to be placed on the dome
was too heavy
so they made a lighter one
that now stands and faces
the executive branch
watching to over see JUSTICE

Papa’s World – Martin Luther King Jr. memorial- D.C.

Our last tour of this day –

The memorial of Martin Luther King Jr.

next to the tidal basin

Across from the Jefferson Memorial.

The Jefferson Memorial

I could not help but wonder –

if every man is created equal

then why ( economics) were there slaves !

Sherry – Jo and Paul

The statue is gazing across the basin as if to ask that very question.

No truer words spoken

Today we think back knowing what we know-

Yet – generations have come and gone

and that rancor still remains

Paul and Jo

“I took a picture of one of the sayings – I could not help myself in walking around and taking a picture of each ” Paul Peterson

This was our first visit here

I found it profound and troubling at the same time

Jo and Paul

Profound that it took so long

Troubling because 400 years later –

it still exists .

Today – twitter seems to dominate
and those that follow are as sheep
Today I stand with reason
I stand with comprehension
I wield my vote
and I communicate in church
with my faith
Sherry and Jo
Pondering what they see

Today –

we must not let those in power move us backward

with fear and hateful words

but reflect on our teachings

from those of a much kinder generation

Thank you for letting me share this with you

Jo and Paul have now crossed off

yet another

and Sherry and I the same

The next blog

The tour of the Capital and Congress !

Papa’s World where friends meet family !

Papa’s World – 1999 – we first saw it – 2019 – the last one “ROLLING THUNDER”

MIA – POW – AMERICAN FLAG

Memorial Day weekend – 1999 –

e had just agreed to a transfer to work in NVA –

the Three of us – Sherry – myself and our youngest daughter Tammy –

Had just come up on the street in D.C. at Foggy Bottom –

George Washington University –

we were going to tour Washington – when we heard the ROAR !

MOTOR CYCLES – a lot of motor cycles – what was going on ?

Thousands of Motorcycles

There were bikes everywhere – parked – every place you could fit one –

and flags – black leather – tattoo’s – noise – vendors –

As we walked down hill and closer to Constitution Avenue – the crowds were huge !

Our grand daughters – Ella and Maddy

2019 – Memorial Day weekend – 20 years to the day later –

we retraced those steps –

this time with our two oldest grand daughters – Ella & Maddy Myers.

Just across the 14 th. street bridge the Pentagon parking lot.

They had come to stay with us for a couple days –

these two laugh and giggle all the time –

but across the bridge – from the Pentagon – came the noise

The ROAR – thousands and thousands of bikes – riders – flags on the rear –

And lining the street – sometimes 10 deep –

the whole of Constitution Avenue – Tens of thousands of people !

We met up with family

We met up with part of our family who had come from afar – Pa. & N.C.-Va.

To see what is to be the LAST RIDE of

” ROLLING THUNDER ” !

It has gotten too costly – and I guess some ill will from the Pentagon –

Too bad as they are riding for our VETS – POW’S and MIA’S !

Ella- Sherry – Maddy and me

What we first saw 20 years ago – we were able to share with these two.

A beautiful day to walk around –

see DC as you never see it with Bikes everywhere !

And to share this with family !

Nathan – Mr. “B” – Lindsey from Pa.

Kristy & Casey from N.C.
Mia & Olivia from NC

We spent the day watching the ” ROAR” which went from Noon –

and was still going at 4:00 PM.

Cousins – with the Balsis and Jones family

Kyle and Bethany from Manassas Va. – their five children and a guest .

Casey and Tom- PICK A PAIR ! LOL
The RIDE
They parked everywhere they could find a space
Ella – Maddy and Sherry
Our oldest grand daughter Maddy – a American Elm tree planted in 1850
The Capital from the Mall

My happy place when we visit and walk DC – THE MALL !

It says it all

20 years we have been doing this –

bringing family – friends and sometimes just ourselves –

riding in on the Metro or driving in –

Wishing everyone a great Memorial day –

” ALL GAVE SOME – SOME GAVE ALL “

WHY WE ARE FREE

The “ROARING THUNDER ” was established for the VETS of the Vietnam War.

Today – it is a symbol for ALL VETS –

let us not forget those Vets –

And each day forward –

let us remember the NAM vets in a war no one wanted –

but they served –

They were not welcomed home –

politics has a way of doing that –

” ROLLING THUNDER ” was for them –

and my memories go back to that day in 1999 –

I am forever grateful for them –

for by the grace of God – it could of been me.

Sherry & Tom

I hope you enjoyed our little trip down memory lane –

many times we have stood right here.

Thank you –
