Papa’s World – Lets take a Metro Ride – to the WHARF

She came downstairs – and said to me ” What do you plan to do today “?

“Mow the lawn ” I replied !

Wait – we have to walk – 10000 steps !

So – that is when she said –

let’s take the Metro –

and go into the WATERFRONT to the WHARF !!!!

The WATERFRONT and the WHARF – Washington D.C.

It had been years since we had gone to the FISH MARKET on the waterfront. And – the whole city line had changed –

to a beautiful waterfront plaza – with many eatery’s and bars – music and venues for top of the line entertainment nation wide.

Harbor view on one side of the Wharf – other side has even bigger boats

The transformation is stunning – and construction is everywhere. Huge buildings – grand boardwalk and tons of people.

What looked to me to be a Lynx was a breed of cat

You see everything – and there are electric scooters all over – you just put your credit card in –

ride it to where you want to go – get off and leave it for the next person !

On both sides of the boardwalk are places to eat and drink and be social with the harbor and boats.

Me walking into what is left of the OLD FISH MARKET
Part of the OLD FISH MARKET

There are vendors with huge piles of fish – shrimp – lobsters- clams and oysters –

all freshly caught and brought in from the East Coast.

You can buy just about anything and even have it cooked right there!

The smells of cooked fish – shrimp – lobster – were everywhere !

Late lunch sitting on the board walk

We selected a place to eat in the shade but on the waterfront – public restrooms were available and very clean.

It could be a little pricey – so come prepared.

A lonely Catamaran sits in anchor

We decided to continue our 10000 steps and walk the the harbor way to the ball fields about a mile away.

Along the way we saw dozens of hikers in full packs – hats and outfits – I asked what they were doing as they had some sort of GPS – phone like instruments – they were on a 50 mile challenge – one women told me !

It reminded me of The Amazing race ! And they were all in a hurry !

Tree lined street – going by a Army Base
Really nice flowers along the paths

We walked where we had never been before – in all the years we have walked D.C.

Audi Field -new home of DC UNITED SOCCER

We came first to Audi Field –

the brand new home to DC UNITED SOCCER TEAM.

And within a 1/4 mile to the NATIONALS PARK – baseball field !

WASHINGTON NATIONALS BASEBALL PARK

We have been to the baseball park a lot of times – but this was a first for the soccer field as it just opened this Spring.

Main entrance to NAT’S PARK

We were there at 4:00 PM.and fans were already arriving for the 7:00 PM. game.

We crossed the street – and it was right out of a movie set – every table outside – and there were dozens of them – six to eight people a table –

were packed full of thirty something young people – all dressed like well dressed college students – sitting – drinking and talking.

Everywhere I looked including the outside bar and inside was the same – as if hundreds of them decided to descend upon the scene at the same time !

We went inside to get into air condition as it was hot in the Sun – each having a drink before we found our way to the Metro stop !

We can actually leave home – drive 15 or 20 minutes – park and ride the Metro right to the gates of the park.

Flowers on our 10000 step walk

A over six hour journey – ( ended up with over 12,000 steps )

was a perfect way to spend a Saturday mid morning – getting back home around 6:00 PM.

Just in time to settle in and watch the NAT’S on TV playing the Cubs !

Always take a picture of where you park

Hint of the day – we always take pictures of where we park in whatever venue we leave from –

makes it much easier to find your car ! LOL

I hope you like this little journey – living healthy – walking –

And sometimes on a whim –

change it up and adventure into something new –

YOU MIGHT EVEN SEE A CAT ON A LEASH THAT LOOKS LIKE A LYNX!

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Mother’s day – with friends at Calabash – OYSTER ROCK!

Toasting to MOTHER’S DAY with good friends – Bob and Pam and Sherry! CHEERS!

We had planed this little get together for some time now.

They had been in Florida for the winter in their RV.

Moving around down there and then working their way back North.

They were in a campground eight miles from the condo’

So for three whole days – we gave them a tour – but the first day was Mother’s Day.

After their arrival we went down and joined them – sitting around – talking – and we stopped and brought them salads.

Then it was for a very quick walk on the beach where they were camping!

It was so WINDY – we took this picture and headed back to the campsite.

A lot of self control in not staying on the beach for a walk! LOL
The next day we picked them up – toured our new home and discovered the drywall had been installed!

Here – we are at Oyster Rock on the ICW in Calabash N.C. where we had reservations for dinner.

A walk along the boardwalk outside of Oyster Rock – here is where the fishing boats return with their catches!
Charter and fishing boats – they provide fresh catch for these places – including Oyster Rock – on their menus.
Fresh catch – Flounder – broiled!
Fresh catch – Mahi-Mahi! Catch of the day!
And of course – down here – HUSH PUPPIES!
Pam Sherry Papa Bob – a wonderful Mother’s day dinner with good friends!

At Oyster Rock in Calabash N.C. on the ICW!

Papa’s World – Fish Market bar & grill – Ocean Isle Beach and the ICW!

The view from the top deck of the Fish Market bar & grill on the ICW & OBI harbor!

We had passed this from the causeway bridge every time we have come over to visit the beach.

And in reading up on it – found that it is the sister bar & grill to the one in downtown Shallotte N.C.

Which we were at one night after playing golf with the McBride’s and loved it!

Here – we decided just to have drinks and split shrimp wrapped in bacon!

I do not do this often so it was a treat for me!

AND IT WAS GOOD and fast service on that top deck.

You go to the bar – get your drinks – place your order – pay for it –

and it seemed like a few minutes a waiter comes up the steps and yells out your name with what you ordered!

The causeway bridge coming over the ICW from the mainland – we are four miles from here in our new house build
The ICW and beyond that the main land – this waterway comes into OIB where the bars are and gas pumps.

There is another bar and grill here called SHARKEY’S and next time we will check that out!

There are also boat rentals here – gift shop and fishing departures.

It is nice to know that we can be here in ten minutes from the new house.

I DID and LOVED THEM!

Papa’s World – Sunrise – Ocean Isle Beach – Fish Market and the views of the ICW!

A Sunday morning sunrise from our condo – in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach – S.C. WELCOME!

On this Sunday morning we decided after church service at the new church we will be attending –

We decided to visit Ocean Isle Beach – which will be less than ten minutes from the new house!

We need to explore this area as most likely it will be where we go to.

They have a summer concert series of live music beginning the end of May.

So we checked out the stage and open seating area – it is bring your own chairs and maybe food and drink!

We walked to the community center which sits right on the beach –
has bathrooms (clean) and outdoor showers plus covered picnic tables.

Beach access and a volleyball net and court. We found where the public can park for free –

and it will be a great place to take family and friends.

Close walking distance to bar and grills and shops!

One of the two walk ways to the beach from the community center – the other is a long ramp for handicap access! Well thought out and it is open from 10:00 am. to about 5:00 pm.
One direction of the view of Ocean Isle Beach at almost high tide!
The opposite direction of the beach at almost high tide!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World – the next blog will be of The Fish Market bar and grill!

We found Sharkey’s also but will return to try that one!

Papa’s World – Cherry Grove and fishing!

Just a short drive North up from North Myrtle Beach is Cherry Grove.

A quaint mostly residential area with well kept houses.

And lots of canals running vertical to the beach.

The area has a big parking lot for boats and trailers

and a ramp into the water – with a long running fishing dock

many fishermen and people putting in their boats or skiffs.

The mainland side is tall reeds

and the bank is a golf course.

The boat ramp
A small part of the fishing docks
The waterway – reeds – skiffs – and mainland
The golf course on the main land!

We walked around but had to be careful

all the people casting their lines

little boys practicing casting

It was fun to watch.

A look North along the waters edge – homes lining the channel

These homes were in the high HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS!

Everything I could see – even the older cottages

were very well kept!

Neat – painted – no trash around –

Bright colors – and very small hot tub like pools!

The drive down and back was at a slow 20 MPH pace.

Which gave us time to look and see the different houses.
