Papa’s World – Laughter – living – health – evolving

My thought in life – think young – smile – be involved with your grand kids – and look for the positives and let the negatives roll off your back !

Every day in my life – I look for what is funny and positive – keeping a open mind – I avoid News Channels – seeking information on my own.

I have come to maintain my healthy living style with my wife – Sherry – who is a certified Health Coach – thank goodness for that.

This June will be our 37 th. anniversary – seems like only yesterday – and next week I turn 70 and in two months she also turns 70.

In marriage as in life – compromise is a must – as is laughter – and in our case travel and family – most important to us is family. We have a close group of a few friends – trying to get together every four or five months.Since we are scattered about over a 400 mile range – sometimes that can be a little daunting.

Our family where we live consists of Five grand daughters and the newest – and only Boy ! As you can guess – he has all our hearts. Both mother’s and their mother – whom is called MORMOR ( Swede for Mother’s Mother) promote healthy living and eating. ALL are on the product called Juice Plus – as well as the Omega’s – from Algae – not fish oil – and try to be gluten free.

The oldest does not eat meat – and has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at the University of Lynchburg in Va. We have two more soccer players – a gymnastic – who all the time is doing gymnastic moves – a Equestrian – and a Ballet and Modern dancer.

They are very important to us and I can honestly say – their youth keeps us young in body and mind.

June 25 th. 1982

The years have flown by – we are now watching our grand children going off to college. But – the legacy that we brought forth almost 13 years ago – has been instilled in each and every one of them as well as their parents.

Today – we are living life to the plus one day at a time – walking 3 plus miles a day – doing shreds ( getting rid of toxins ) going dairy free and gluten as much as we can.

And – for me – sharing good thoughts – smiles and interesting family – friends and my life blogs.

My motto through life :

” Do all the small things well and they in turn will take care of the larger things ” ! Hope you enjoyed the read – HGD !!!!

Papas World – Day #26 of shelter in place.

Here we are – social distancing – sheltering in place –

searching google places we can buy food – SENIORS ONLY!

Our new way to ride our bikes
and to take our daily walks
on the 18 miles of trails we have
social distancing
giving wide berths
and crossing streets to avoid
people when possible

What has become a new norm – all in less than a months time!

Our motto has become this.

We have become puzzle experts –

Netflix bingeing on series!

Our way of still practicing
Palm Sunday

Church now is live streamed

and we attend that way.

Our Tower Garden in the garage with grow lights

We will begin to harvest this coming weekend

The other two outside with all the vines and bigger vegetables

are coming along nicely.

MUST BE RAVENBURGER puzzles

and 500 or less pieces!

Our table can not handle anymore than that!

Papa’s World – How old are you ?

GOOD MORNING

Is it HOW OLD YOU ARE or HOW OLD DO YOU FEEL ?

This would be me

All my life – I have been early to bed and early to rise !

I just can not help it –

I try to stay up –

and I try to stay in bed –

BUT – I start to fall asleep –

and then – I get my second wind –

And – that is when I can not go to sleep –

but I still wake up early !

And then – being 70 –

feeling 50 and knowing all of the above –

Puts you in the right frame of mind –

GO TO BED WHEN YOU ARE TIRED –

GET UP WHEN YOU WAKE UP –

and make the most of your day !

Works for me !

We try every day –

do not eat this –

Lets walk – get in our steps –

MOVE & MOVE

But – you age –

For most people this is natural –

But to age and feel younger –

This is how I think each day

It is so much easier to just order in –

But you know something –

I LIKE ASPARAGUS !

I enjoy cooking –

( cleaning up – not so much )

But we try every day to eat GREEN –

We try to eat healthy –

White with peanut butter frosting

And then there are the sweets –

seems the older I get –

the more I want my cake and eat it too !

I am not much of a gummy or hard candy person –

But – put a milk chocolate covered peanut out –

beware !

What does keep us young in mind and body –

Is the interaction with our grand kids .

Watching them grow up –

Seeing them excel –

Being a part of it !

Make a smile – a good thought

So – is the 70 now the new 50 ?

I guess it is what ever you think it to be –

In our lives –

the answer is yes –

We try to maintain

Doing that requires good eating –

exercise – ( walking)

And finding a way to get as much whole food into our bodies that we can.

We know quite well what is on that list of older than dirt –

But then again –

We also know what is on our list to age and maintain.

It is all for us

the matter of the mind –

And doing what we think is right for us –

WELCOME TO PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – walking for health – 10,000 steps – / day

Each day I lace them up – double tie my Sketchers – Kucher would be proud of me !

We have lived in our community for thirteen years – and during that time – as it developed – so have the walking trails – 15 miles of them !

Soon – as other sections open up – an additional 5 to 8 miles will be added.

Walking has become a way of life for both of us – each with our own fit bits !

We have many different paths to follow – and can customize them to almost any length we want.

About a 1/2 mile left to home

Our goal is walk walk 10,000 steps each day – depending on the weather, we also walk for different charities.

I have found walking outside – is much more to my liking than a tread mill – I get bored way to easy on them !

Health – is my main reason for walking.

In 2013 – ( see a previous blog ) I suffered a major HEAR ATTACK –

known as the WIDOW MAKER !

I ended up with OPEN HEART surgery – and am still alive ( I take Juice Plus )

My wife – Sherry – certified health coach

My recovery has been amazing –

and I have the best coach I could have – my wife – who has worked so hard and absorbed so much in Healthy living.

Moving – is what my Heart doctor says is the one factor that means the most to me in my post care – along with eating healthy –

no dairy – no processed food – no red meat – no gluten – a little beer once in a while – and if I do have any of the above – it is rare and a small amount.

Maintaining has become a way of life for me – and taking a supplement – you can search the internet –

I stay away from vitamins – as they are mostly selective in my opinion – I choose the WHOLE FOOD way for my self.

Eating as many servings of fruits and vegetables as I can – and that is hard to do !

So – I use a supplement – called Juice Plus – raw fruits – vegetables and berries – juiced – skins and all – and then slowly dried – and left in a powder of nutrients –

that research proves goes immediately into the blood stream.

Walking for health – I have to if I want to live longer !

Sometimes –

yes -I do cheat – it is too cold or raining or snowing

( next Winter we are going South ) so we do not walk outside –

but I walk in the house. I have a routine – but that bores me !

So – we head for the Mall !

We have 5 free library stations along the paths.

I also keep my mind sharp as I can –

I find the exercise of writing – forcing myself to think – to create –

( I do not know what I will write each day ) !

My writing is SEEING and then THINKING and then WRITING !

Our Free Library’s offer a pickup and exchange books – you bring one and take one.

I READ all the time – my wife runs the church book club and I have read books that I have never heard of !

It keeps my mind sharp – you have to keep body and mind going !

Tunnels so you do not have to cross in traffic
All lit up day and night

We have tunnels – under the roads –

so we do not have traffic to stop our walks – there are now FIVE of them and I just read where another trail will open and another tunnel will connect us to it !

Multiple bridges and lakes and streams and woods

We have Deer – Turkeys – Bears – Foxes -Geese – Birds – fish – turtles –

although I have never seen a Bear –

I have seen pictures taken of them and home security footage of them with in a couple blocks of our home !

We are reminded about garbage we put out – I have seen Deer running down the street and other wild life.

Papa’s World – “My fit bit isn’t recording my steps” !

For the last 4 or 5 years – I have heard this over and over !

Sherry tells me this all the time – my fit bit records differently than hers !

Even though we walk the same distance !

So – I swapped – I wore hers -she wore mine !

And she is right – I still recorded more steps !

Then she posted on face book asking if anyone knew WHY !!!!!

Well – you can imagine the response –

anything from she has longer legs – most likely true –

to I take more steps – untrue –

as we walked today and she was matching my stride –

and I still had plus 300 steps !

She is tall – I have her by a inch !

She has to swing her arms – I grabbed some books from the free trail library

I didn’t swing my arms carrying them – I still had more steps !

She has a much longer stride – there fore I take more steps !

PLEASE !!!!

So – how do you explain it ?

Some say calibrate the fit bit – she did –

still the same !

Now – like me –

when I walk by her computer –

( she tells me to stay away from it )

Something will happen –

It is just the way of my life !

So my theory –

IT SOMEHOW IS HER !!!!!

X FILES !!!

What I say

So – I tell her –

it is not how you got to the THREE PLUS MILES –

But the fact in the end –

it still is THREE PLUS MILES !!!!!

Now that goes over like a lead balloon –

But in the end – we both did the same distance –

And to be truthful

It just does not mean as much to me as it does to her –

sort of like my PHONE –

I only use it to talk to her or take pictures ! LOL

( by the way – it does the same things as my computer – it isn’t me )

So – today – she still thinks that I am not doing all those steps !

Of course – I just think –

” It isn’t me to question why – but for me to do or die “

So – I ask her first and adjust my steps according to what she says ! LOL

Papa’s World – found a Natural way to health !

GOOD MORNING

We took a little trip to Winchester Va.

To meet up with our granddaughter & her mother

to celebrate the granddaughter’s birthday !

But first we had to stop at Linda’s business store

As we had something to give to her.

The business is Natural Health & Fitness Solutions – LLC.

This was a first for both of us

and I was very impressed as I looked around.

The hours are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY !

The whole concept is NATURAL !

I actually looked at almost everything –

And I noticed some photo’s on the wall

Of before and after of some of her clients !

The pictures and numbers were remarkable –

INCHES AND POUNDS LOST –

One lady had lost 20 some inches and 112 lbs. !

I saw the focus being on WHOLE FOOD !

EXERCISE – and COACHING !

We – have tried to maintain this thought ourselves

and it is not easy

but then – HEALTH IS NOT EASY !
