Papa’s World – When dreams come true!

After the Pandemic and the 401K collapse –

We decided to sell our “Forever Home” in Brambleton, VA. –

And go to a warmer climate!

We stayed for nine months in Ocean Keyes, NMB- S.C.

During those nine months, we visited many homes for sale.

Anything in our price range involved updating and months of work.

By chance, seeing a billboard –

We visited a new Community site under construction.

We found where we wanted to live and decided to BUILD our next home.

The total cost was equivalent to what we would spend on purchasing one to update.

The plus side was that we would have everything new and be where we wanted to be.

This picture shows our new home under construction –

1900 plus square Feet –

Plus an enclosed screened-in lanai!

Our wish list was met by upgrading almost everything we could!

The beaches –

10 to 13 minutes away for both of them.

Gas station – Post Office-

Two miles away.

Shopping – 12 minutes in either direction-

And big box stores – 8 to 16 miles away.

Entertainment – thirty minutes away, sometimes closer.

Numerous friends live nearby.

We play golf on over thirty golf courses nearby!

We volunteer for three organizations.

And we live in a climate that suits us year-round!

This is our dream come true!

We left behind family, but they visit often.

And we also often go back!

We are retired and in our senior years!

July 2024 – on the beach celebrating both of our 75th. birthdays!

Over twenty plus years ago –

We did the research and read the published research( 40 now published)

and decided to age as healthily as we could into our Senior years!

After much thought and reading, we selected JUICE PLUS –

Park the car and carry your chair to the sand.

Above is the causeway bridge to OCEAN ISLE BEACH!

And of course, we share our dream with family!

Our dreams have turned into a positive reality.

Monday – Monday – you slipped away –

Only to bring a fresh new day!

A new day and a new beginning.

We had a dream –

A recession hit –

The 401K tanked-

But the housing market went way up!

WE SOLD –

And pursued our dream.

And today, each day is filled with –

Living a few miles from two beaches –

Whenever we choose –

We go!

This has always been my dream.

I used to go on vacation-

To the beach –

And how fast it would go by –

And then pack up and return home.

Today, on the checkout days –

I watch the families do just that.

And there I sit-

I sit in my beach chair and watch them go back home.

My dream is now real – This is now my life-

A POSITIVE DREAM COMES TRUE!

OUR BEACH LIFE!

LOL – But the POSITIVE is I keep coming back!

Being in our senior years –

We take pleasure in playing golf.

Not all the time –

But when we do –

Being in nature –

On the course –

A dream we had when working.

Now, that dream is a reality.

A POSITIVE LIFESTYLE AFTER ALL THE YEARS OF WORKING!

Humor – smiles – laughter –

Sunshine – blue skies –

Ocean – sand and surf.

No snow-no-ice!

A lot to be said for dreams coming true!

Papa’s World – One door closes and a window opens!

Many times in our being together – a door has closed –

We found another, opened it, and proceeded to the next step.

We always accepted the facts and moved on –

To a better life with friends – family –

Now – in our Senior years –

It seems like it has become a Window instead of a door!

Here is Sherry with her two daughters.

Debby – Tammy and Sherry.

While it was sad to leave them behind in NVA-

They had established their own families.

Their roots were now there –

Kids in schools – college and a life that they flourished in.

We in turn – in our senior years – wanted to be near the beaches – sun – sand,

and warmth.

We want to enjoy life as long as we are able.

Living the Southern lifestyle –

Going golfing with friends-

So – this was not a door opening – but a WINDOW we chose to open!

The WINDOW is the SENIOR TIME FRAME OF OUR LIVES!

Our friends of over four decades are now all retired.

But – Sherry and I are the oldest.

We volunteer – at the Food Pantry – Assisted living – and Sea Turtle Protection.

We often go back to NVA to see the families and the grandchildren.

That too someday shall become less and less as we age.

Our thoughts are to age as healthy as we can.

We find interesting venues to attend – most are free!

Here is the Fort Fisher Kite Festival –

Which for us involves a Ferry ride from Southport to Fort Fisher.

Also, the Aquarium is there –

And sometimes TV film crews for several series!

All things considered – the WINDOW we opened and went through –

has been an adventure that we both wanted and have been blessed to have.

Growing into our Senior Years – as healthy as we can be.

For 19 going on 20 years –

Have never missed a day –

Skin – nails grow fast as does my hair.

I feel good – I test every 4 to 6 months on my vital stats!

This window opened for us –

The only regret I have is –

I did not know about this-

for the first 13 years, it has been around!

Today we are living in the SENIOR LIFE of an open WINDOW.

Papa’s World – Remembering the past!

My two sons have made the long trip down here from NWPA –

This was two summers ago and one came down this fall.

The other is looking for next summer.

Always excited to see them.

REMEMBERING THE PAST!

Ella – whom we called “TINY” since she was born.

Here in her youth, she was a runner.

Today, she has grown to 5’10” and is in her senior year of college.

She will graduate with two degrees and play her senior year of college soccer,.

They vacation yearly in the wilderness of lakes – forests and small towns.

All six grandchildren – now Bode is ten years old!

Maddy is 24 years old – Ella is 21 and Sarah is 18.

The twins are 14 years old.

A storm is brewing on a morning Sea Turtle walk –

here we walk in the early morning on the East end of OIB-

To see if any Sea Turtle came on shore to lay her eggs during the night!

LOL – this is so true – posting the past – seeing the growth of all the grandkids.

This is our “SENIOR MOMENT IN TIME”!

Realizing we are in our GOLDEN YEARS yet we are living the dream we have had all these years!

Papa’s World – We move to Brambleton!

This is the second home we built and moved into!

Situated on a corner lot – two stories – almost 3200 SF.

A front porch with a second-story balcony off a guest bedroom.

The house was in a horseshoe shape –

and the middle of the horseshoe was a 400 SF. enclosed patio,

Very private with a tall fence.

The closed-in patio has two entrances into the house.

When we first moved here – there was one H.S.

After 14 1/2 years – we sold the forever house – they were just opening the 4th. H.S.

We had grown with the community –

watching street after street being built –

and now – after we have left –

It still is growing and building.

It was during that time that Tammy had twin girls –

although not identical – in many ways, they are the same.

Cassidy on the left and Taylor on the right.

Today they are 14 years old –

Taylor rides horses and Cassidy does gymnastics.

Both sing and dance in plays –

and all three – Bode who is 10 – sing at church!

Our home here was to be a forever retirement home –

But the stock market went down –

and the home values went up!

We decided to sell and see where it took us.

We stayed with family members through the summer –

and into the school year-

At that time we decided to go SOUTH!

And it was to S.C. North Myrtle Beach!

Here we stayed in a lakefront condo for nine months –

And we built our THIRD new home!

This time 16 miles to the North in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

In a place called CAMERON WOODS COMMUNITY!

Brambleton, Va. started out as our forever retirement home-

But economics proved otherwise.

It was a beautiful home inside as well as outside-

We met many memorable people here –

We had 15 miles of walking trails and they added more since we left.

Loudoun County is the highest per Capita county in the country.

MEMORIES always will be cherished there –

But – now we are living our dream-

Near the beaches and golfing capital of the country.

On one of our many beach walks –

Back when I was younger –

even before I knew Sherry –

My dream then was someday-

I would like to retire-

and sell HOT DOGS ON THE BEACH!

That was just a way to say –

I loved Sand – Surf and Sun!

I lived at that time in a small town-

in the Alleghany Mountains in NWPA!

The beaches were far away –

and only got there on a vacation or two.

A sort of FIELD OF DREAMS –

might be there someday –

But most likely a picture will do.

Today – things have changed –

we moved South to the borders of N.C and S.C.

The beaches are only 15 minutes away.

Today we are in our Golden Senior Years –

living our lives –

Sand – Surf and Sun are now a part of that life.

Our doors are open for family and friends.

What I once dreamed about-

is now in the present.

While it has turned from SELLING HOTDOGS ON THE BEACH-

To WALKING ON THE BEACH whenever we want to.

We are fortunate –

a door opened and we walked through.

We feel like we are on vacation every day.

Our trips back home are reminders that our lives have changed.

Returning home each time is starting a new vacation over again each day!

Golfing with our friends of years and years.

and we often play one of the courses near us-

but also on the 27 holes where they live at Magnolia Greens.

Living in the South – near beaches – SUNSET BEACH and OCEAN ISLE BEACH – warm – sun and sand!

We are living our dream – and all the family has been here to visit.

SUNSET BEACH and in the distance – the tall building – OCEAN ISLE BEACH – within 20 minutes both beaches!

I had always wanted to live in the warm – sun and sand of the South.

Even in the Fall – we still have vibrant flowers and bushes – almost no ice – snow – it does get cold but within a couple days – it is back to the 50 and 60’s!

And of course when a grade-school friend comes to visit – you sit and talk – creating more memories.

Papas World – It is early – I look around – almost done!

It is early Thursday morning – I awoke at 3 am.!

Too much on my mind!

I look around – the car is packed

The next to final trip to Tammy and Marcus house

where we will establish a home base.

Then one more trip to the storage unit –

and finally the last trip – lock up and leave

We are changing – evolving – dreaming

a new adventure awaits – it is fun selecting places

seeing rentals – looking at real estate for sale!

We will go to where our eyes take us

but stay where our heart finds home!

We will seek warmth – sunshine & golf!

It is finally time to do that!

Living in NVA is $$$$ to golf!

Owning a home in NVA – well taxes are high

as is the HOA – and while we love our dream home

At our age – maintaining it is costly.

New roof – trim painted outside – new HVAC

A new fence was on the horizon –

Our home I must say is nearly perfect

The lawn I was told looks like Augusta National!

New Bamboo flooring – new fridge –

But we loved it and the way of life.

I guess it was the pandemic and the stock market that gave us thought.

Now was the time – the value was up and the market strong.

We have choices – places to live –

friends and family to visit

and God willing – grand daughters soccer to watch.

Once again we will laugh with the friends we have held close

for almost 38 years.

She will continue her home based internet business

Health – family – nutrition where ever we go.

Yes – I look around – almost finished – today I watch Bode

Sherry will help Tammy who is getting ready to reopen her store

529Kidsconsignment – closed because of the pandemic.

Taylor and Cassidy have tennis lessons

Yes – I was up early – yes I look around – time for coffee –

Almost done – almost 14 years here –

our dream home – now another dream begins

While it is cold here in N.C – it is not like in WNY – NWPA or NVA! Here – almost every day we have sunshine!

Walking the beach – even in gray skies – almost deserted – brings us the satisfaction of knowing we are living our dream!

Papa’s World – After dinner – once again on the beach – SUNSET that is!

Nature paints the skies at sunset.

We were excited when we moved near the border of S.C. and N.C. – a ten-minute drive to the beach.

A lot of nights we just look at each other after cleaning up the kitchen and “LET’S GO”!

Ocean Isle Beach is a ten-minute drive over the causeway and to the sand.

However – we really like to drive the extra five minutes and go to Sunset Beach!

Here we drive to the far west end and park and walk the long boardwalk over the dunes.

Even at this time, the beach is busy with people – swimming – walking, or catching late rays from the sun.

The beach here is flatter than OIB and we like that!

This evening the wind was coming off the ocean causing the waves to be higher.
All in all – a great evening to just relax by the sea!

Papa’s Word – when your kids finally buy the boat after sixteen years – BOAT – BOAT – we are coming home!

They have lived in a lake community for sixteen years and recently one of the boat slips

became available and their name came up to have it!

For years and years, they have wanted to have a boat but would have to tow it

down to the marina to launch.

Mike and the new boat.

So – they decided to go ahead and buy this boat and surprise the kids!

DREAMS do come true – keeping the FAITH! Debby!

With the two older girls in college playing soccer and one as a freshman in H.S.

It was time to take the leap – summer is going to be so fun!

Just a little over a month later from our New Years Eve beach gathering and toast to 2021

We once again were back to see the sunset – only it was windy and cold –

far from the 65 degrees of NYE!

We first parked and walked to the end of the street – here the last of the end of the houses –

and this then begins Bird Island – marshland protected and wide-open beach.

Here you see the last of the houses on the marsh and bayside – with the tide going out – This is the end of Sunset Beach and the beginning of Bird Island.

Papa’s World – Star Wars – Hollywood Studio – Disney – a dream come true!

Outside the entrance to Hollywood studio’s – where we took Ella for her 16th. birthday present.

She opened the envelope at her birthday party in July!

There was a picture of Star Wars and the attraction in Florida at Disney World.

“You will spend one week with grandma and grandpa in Florida!

You will ride down with them at the end of Jan.

and go to Holly Wood studios to see Star Wars

and at the end of the week – for the first time ever

They will put you on a plane and you will FLY back home!

Bode – who his World is Ella – and she is so good to him.

We had done something special for Maddy when she turned 16.

Her wish was to be able to swim with the Manatee’s!

So – in the winter – she and her mom flew down –

and she did just that – and then we all drove back home!

Ella – her little buddy is Bode

He follows her everywhere and she just laughs!

She is so good to him and when she goes to college next year

She wants to become a Phys Ed teacher to the little ones!

She will be excellent – so kind – so much of a good heart.

And a very good soccer player.

We spent the time touring with her also – showing her where my brother lived

and the three town centers of The Villages!

We went to see the Manatees and the beach on the West coast

We toured the town where we were staying – and stopped in the coffee shop

to get her a chocolate chip cookie each time – she loved that!

Soon it would be time for her to FLY!

Standing in line as we all watched – her forst time and she handled it like a pro.

Tears welled in my eyes –

my little Ella ( tiny) is what we called her

all grown up and out on her own.

Now – be careful – don’t mix with strange people I worried.

When she was small – she would always come to me – clutch my leg –

climb up into my lap.

I cherish those memories – “IS HE OKAY” she said to her mother

when I had my heart attack.

YES I HAD A LUMP IN MY THROAT

as I went from vantage point to vantage point watching her in the long line.

Ella and Sherry – a trip she will always remember.

Papa’s World – sometimes – it is relaxing after a nice day – to just sit on the beach!

After dinner – we decided to drive to the beach – get out our chairs and just take it all in for a hour!

Sherry is always drawn to the surf – walking in the water – still too cold for me! LOL

The only downside to this was the wind – it was strong – and would get into your eyes!

Hardly anyone down here even though it was the mid ’70’s out!

We only brought with us our water – and a lot of people walked past us – but only a few sitting on the sand.

The relaxing nature – the quiet – only birds – sounds of the waves.

Here you can see what the wind does when it is strong and blowing – it makes the sand look like waves – no footprints remain even though people are walking by!

It was a good hour to visit regardless of the wind!

Papa’s World – took a little walk – not our usual – but to Broadway on the Beach – then Myrtle Beach boardwalk – THREE MILES!

I said to Sherry – lets change it up a wee bit – a different walk – scenery – and revisit some places we have not been in a few months!

So – we drove South to Broadway On The Beach – have not been there in months!

One thing I did notice – Barefoot Landing seems to attract more people!

Not many people here and it is almost 11:30 am.

We were able to walk in and out of stores – no crowds – peaceful – and a bright sun shine day – warm!
I WONDER WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE? LOL
No matter – we came and did what we wanted to do – walk!

Of course I did not go in EVERY store she did! LOL

We still had a good time for over a hour – walking – looking and yes – sitting in rockers!

Papa’s World – Living our dreams to the plus – one day at a time!

I have been fascinated by the beach – sand – surf and the waves my entire life!

When we were firs married – we went to the beach in the Outer Banks.

Our goal each year was to take the kids to the beach for vacation.

I always dreamed of one day – to somehow work close to the beach –

I would always say ” I am going to sell hot dogs on the beach – just so I could be there”!

Today – everyday where we are –

we are living that dream.

We sold our home back in NVA.

Along with most furniture

and are renting a condo in Ocean Keyes – North Myrtle Beach S.C.

And we walk 1/2 mile through the gated community – to the beach!

Cold weather – I was like this – warm walking weather – I am ready to go!

Anything in the Sun – mid 40’s to mid 50’s and no wind – I am for it!

But – snow – wind – ice (slip and fall) I am out of there!

We searched and searched – condo’s – homes – rentals – different areas until we realized – it was equal to just build what we want!

So – we pulled the trigger – after we said to ourselves – we do not want to renovate at our age.

We want to live our remaining lives while we can –

playing golf – exploring and walking the beaches!

When we went back home for Christmas – we had our plans and showed the kids. We were ready to go – waiting for the start date!

We made our selections before Thanksgiving – the paper work was done –

The deposit made – banking finalized –

And when we returned from NVA –

We went to the lot –

THE FORMS WERE IN TO POUR THE FOUNDATION!

Our dream is about to take place.

We have found our shopping stores – and are exploring the area –

Golfing is everywhere and the beach is four miles away!

We are on the mainland and cross the ICW to get to the beach.

Now – we will wait to get a close date-

we have to buy furniture and move from storage what we have left.

Our dream is about to become a reality – walking the beach – warm weather –

This past year we have also had our blessings during the Pandemic!

Yes – we sold our dream home – BUT NOW ARE BUILDING YET ANOTHER ONE!

Yes – we left our family 450 miles to the North – BUT NOW THEY WILL BE VISITING!

Yes – we packed up Sherry’s office – BUT NOW WITH PHONE & COMPUTER –

SHE WALKS THE BEACH AND CONTINUES!

You see what I mean when we have our blessings!

We went to the new property after coming back from NVA

leaving the snow- ice and cold behind

and saw that they had the forms in ready to pour cement!

Then we walked the beach!

Blessings are where you put down roots!

Work is where you are and where you walk!

That is owning your own network marketing business!

The wind may blow – but there are many fine days at the office!

A year in which we have a pandemic but also a year in which we have blessings!

We explore – we walk – we play golf –

we do not miss the cold – we miss the people!

Papa’s World – late afternoon walk on the beach – daily routine!

The sunrise gives out the desire to begin walking outside – however – a cold snap – so walking the beach in the afternoon!

The warm rays from the sun – sand beneath my feet – casting a shadow – living our dreams!

Sherry walking – we have come to always head to the beach –

and as Sherry says ” SEE OUR OCEAN”!

But – as soon as we start the one half mile walk

we can actually hear the surf.

When there is a storm somewhere OUT THERE –

the waves get large as well as the sound.

Listening – as we walk closer –

and then – breaking the plain of the dunes

we see the waters – cresting – wave after wave

Warn sunshine – large waves –

making the music we love

OUR OCEAN – so we have come to call it!

Footprints in the sand – a hazy sky – luring us on – walking – walking!

Much too soon – it is back to the parking lot and straight up the street

to our gate back onto the gated community!

Where in the late afternoon sun – the ducks and geese – come together – to rest for the night!

Only the best are taken in – most never worn !

customer pays on line – she then ships directly to customer !

Of course walk ins are also welcomed –

and the consignments decrease in value the longer they are there –

with a three month window –

Then they are returned or if the person does not want them back

they are donated to charity !
