Papa’s World – The joy of college and soccer – Maddy!

Our granddaughter – Maddy – this is her!

Never the selfish one – always the one who gives – both in life and college and on the pitch in soccer.

She works hard – her degree will be in Engineering Science – a 3.85 GPA.

Maddy is on the right with her teammates and roommate.

She is up early before sunrise to hike and run – when she visited us this last spring – she was on the beach for sunrise – capturing pictures and filming – her minor is Photography.

She runs – she hikes mountains – and most of all – a team player.

Maddy – not celebrating her own goal – but that of a teammate – that is Maddy!
This is her and her life.

She distributes the soccer ball from the left wing position – pinpoints passing and so fast in doing so.

She loves to score – but she loves to see others do the same.

Number 13 Maddy – celebrating teammate’s score.

Dedication for four years straight – a team award for going above the recommended physical fitness regimen for her team. The BELL AWARD was given to those players pictured here and for four straight years, Maddy has achieved that award from her coach.

Maddy was second from left – four years straight given this award from the coach and team captain her senior year.

The four years have gone by so fast – she has done this on her own since she was a sophomore in H.S.

Papa’s World – The joy of college and soccer – MADDY!

Papa’s World – ELLA – playing college soccer.

ELLA MYERS

Our granddaughter – Ella – became the second sister to play college soccer –

Her sister Maddy is a senior wing for the Unversity of Lynchburg in Va.

Ella is now a Sophomore and started and played every game as a Freshman – the first player that the coach said has done this.

And that string has progressed through seven more games this year.

Number 10 Ella Myers for Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va.

He only takes her out for a short rest and most times he doesn’t take her out.

She is really good at middle defense and passing the ball.

Her position is forward midfield.

Ella – taking a corner lick – this year she has taken all of them when she is in the game.

Ella with the ball in an Orange vest warming up.

Crossing the mid-field line – Ella playing her position
on a forward mid-fielder.

She has become a good – steady player for the program.

Soccer and college are now her life and she is living it to the plus.

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – Spring break with Maddy!

As the sunset in Sunset Beach – Sherry and Maddy take it all in on a cool evening.

She drove herself five hours from Lynchburg Va. – her University – to spend her break with us!

So we took her to the beach in the early evening after she arrived.

She had a test in the morning of the day she started out – but she and Sherry wanted to see the beach.

It was cool out – a cold front had come in from Florida all the way North to N.E.

And the wind made for a chilly walk in the blowing sand.

Here you can see a deserted beach and how the sand blows across it – stinging your eyes.

Grandma and granddaughter – the same – they love the surf and the sand.

It was worth the time to take her to both beaches – to relax after her five-hour drive –

the crazy world of college and tests – maintaining an almost 4.0!

And grandma had her eldest granddaughter once again in her home!

The long walk back from the beach – grandmother and granddaughter

Thanks for reading PAPA’S WORLD, a place to just rest your thoughts and enjoy the day.

MY CONTACT: fitztdf@aol.com

PAPA SHERRY MADDY PAPA’S WORLD.

Papas World – a special kind of friend – my hero.

When you are growing up – at least in my case – you look up to someone.

That person to me was my older brother – by ten years.

My sister was 15 years older – and I really do not remember –

much of her being home – although she took care of me

those first three years of my life along with my grandma

as both my parents were working.

I was sort of the second coming of the family –

and then almost four years later – my younger brother Mike.

But the thing I remember is my older brother Roger.

He was “COOL” as they said back then –

and quite the ladies man – his nickname I later found out –

across the upper portion of his H.S. varsity jacket –

was ” Anyface” !

I was told many a story about him from his friends

and I would hang out on the fringes – when they were all around.

He had a club in our basement – in the backroom –

and he had drawn pictures of Disney cartoons on the wall

and painted them – Chip and Dale – Mickey Mouse – Donald Duck.

And they were really lifelike.

I do not know why and I think they are still there.

He would put boxing gloves on me –

and I would wail away at him or his friends

they – the gloves – were bigger than me

back then I was skinny – so much so –

my Mom would not let me take my shirt off

as she said people would think she was starving me!

Somewhere – he is looking down – that smile on his face-

When he went away to college – I moved into his front of the house room.

This was Rogers room I would think – and I was excited

for he was MY HERO!

I would ask Mom – did you get a letter? Is he going to call?

Will he be coming home?

I could not wait to see him.

And that continued even after I grew up and moved on.

I would always ask those questions of her.

When he did come back home – it was a occasion.

A celebration – dinners – laughing and story telling.

And then – the last twelve years of his life –

once again we became close – very close.

We talked at least once a week and we would go and see him.

Once he came here – and a couple times back home in Eldred Pa.

When my mom and sister were still alive.

He was my Hero in early life and continued to the day he passed.

Roger
age 75
my friend and hero

I regret that we could not spend more time together

he wanted us to move to Florida and live with him.

But – life gets in the way.

I feel good because the last four years of his life

we spent 9 weeks each Winter with him

In The Villages – Florida – doing some golf -sipping some brews –

laughing and remembering –

those were the best of times I shall always cherish

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

My brother was my hero growing up

and to the day he was gone – still was

and today I think of him often

Hero’s are rare – once in a lifetime

I was fortunate to have had him.

Thank you Roger for all the good times.

Papa’s World – one first day of H.S. – the other first day of College and Soccer!

OH MY! Here Sarah is first day of H.S. and Ella first day of college and soccer!

Now – Maddy is also in college – her third year of classes and also playing soccer!

Life is changing – Deb and Mike – from three girls at home – to now just Sarah.

The twin girls – soon to be 11 years old and Bode – soon to be 8 years old.

Are also growing up so fast – and so we live on through them!

Sarah growing up – almost as tall as Ella who is taller than Sherry at 5′ 9″ !

She is now in her first year of H.S. following in the footsteps of the other two. She also could of been a really good soccer player – but has chosen the arts as her focus – dance – acting – and writing!

She looks to me just like her mother Debby!

Full of life – independent – caring – and gives her dad a run for his money! LOL

Fashion – make up – leader in trends – this is Sarah!

Full of life – she wanted grandma to take her to NYC – now I think it is Paris!

She will walk her own path in life – always looking forward.

All three of these girls – are like this – never asking just giving – helping and caring for others.
Ella from her dorm room on campus of Randolph College in Lynchburg Va.

Her picture is her first day of classes and her first day of soccer practice.

She will compete against her sister Maddy in the same cofference – and Maddy is at

The University of Lynchburg – right across town from Ella!

Maddy played in 15 games as a Freshman and was a starter her Sophomore year.

Our calender is marked for when they play each other.

We hope to plan a long weekend to see them both.

Ella is so excited – on her own – no pressures from peers – just being Ella and playing soccer and taking classes.

As you can see in the picture – smiling – gentle – caring – “TINY” as we called her – all grown up!

And then there is Papa – Thomas David Fitzsimmons – graduating in May – 1967 – all those years ago.

My best H.S. friend – bottom right hand corner – Bobby – who we have reconnected the last ten years –

who in October will come for a visit – with his wife Pam – and we will play golf – beach it –

and just be talking of old times past!

Papa’s World – Spring has Sprung – the Beach got busy – and they are in the water!

Here is our before 9:am. early morning walk – a little more crowed but nothing not expected! Looking South to North Myrtle Beach from where we enter the access to the beach.
From the beach access looking toward Cherry Grove – a few more people – but not a lot!

But – this is the beginning of the week for Spring Breakers –

and we noticed traffic getting heavey.

We have found our way around and avoid the high traffic on rte. 17!

We take the side streets as far as we can – and one side street takes up to where we can shop!

Now – in the afternoon we decided to do a couple hours of a beach day – taking and carrying our chairs to the beach. Here is the same view looking toward North Myrtle Beach – a lot more people and a lot of people in the water. But we still had our own space – no one within thirty feet of us!
Here is the same view in the afternoon looking toward Cherry Grove! And – it will get more crowed as Spring turns into Summer with vacations! We are in the open space and avoid large gatherings which happen mostly toward North Myrtle Beach town center. A lot of young H.S. and college students gather on the beach there in a large group. You just avoid them as they will do what they do regardless!

Being here is still our dream – we will come back often as we like it here –

but also where we are moving too – no traffic – country quiet – we can walk –

and still be in access to the other two beaches!

The beach here is very wide – I have been told it is the widest on the Grand Strand!

Papa’s World – college soccer – Sophomore – granddaughter – life at college.

College life this year is so different with Covid – 19.

The season for our granddaughter – Maddy has been delayed from Fall

to Spring – and only a certain amount of spectators will be allowed in to watch!

Maddy in blue – a organized team event.

But life in college goes forward – from virtual learning – to social distancing.

To team functions – everyone on the team has had covid except one player.

What a strange year – but their season began in mid Feb.

with a win – 2 to 0 with Maddy having a assist.

College life – a big step in any other time – but this is the biggest of her young life.

Maddy second from right – one of five players receiving what is called the Bell Award!

Dedication – maintaining a high GPA – and on breaks working – goals of a young woman.

Who will major in Environmental science – engineering.

All the while playing soccer in college – her dream since she was first able to kick the ball!

Maddy – number 10 – University of Lynchburg soccer team – a dream come true.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World and our oldest granddaughter MADDY!

Papa’ s World – Healthy living – one day at a time

How many ways do you say ” I LOVE YOU ELLA ” !

The twins gravitate toward their cousin Sarah – Bode – his idol is Ella.

It has been this way ever since he could walk and talk. ” Is Ella going to be there ” ? he will ask. Ella is our second oldest grand daughter – who will turn 16 this July. Bode is our youngest gran child

and the only boy out of SIX ! He turns FIVE in November . As you can see here – he absolutely adores her. ” Ella – you want to play “? he asks.

Both have been brought up eating Healthy – as have all the grand kids. That is priority number one for their parents – even though they both are cousins – it runs in the family.

This was taken before Ella’s soccer game and during her older sister’s game. Both play – Maddy is the starter on Midfield – varsity and Ella starts as midfielder on the J.V. team.

The varsity is 8 wins 2 loses & 1 tie.

The J.V. are 7 wins 1 loss & 3 ties.

Very proud of these two and Maddy signed a Letter Of Intent to play soccer at The University of Lynchburg in Va. We will make trips to watch her play.

Bode loves his cousin and she in turn choose to sit with him prior to her game – she has the biggest heart and to see them was priceless.

We all practice living to the plus – being together – and supporting one another. This is but one more day in PAPA’S WORLD .

And Bode supports his Ella !

Papa’s World – Grand daughters – each selected as MVP for their teams.

Sisters – three years apart – one graduated this week –

Going on to play Soccer at University Of Lynchburg , Va.

The other – returning as a Junior – and made the Travel Team –

BOTH SELECTED AS MVP of THEIR TEAMS –

At the same position – MIDFIELDER – by their coaches!

MADDY MEYERS & ELLA MEYERS

Maddy will continue her play in college –

But the other story here is of Ella –

last TWO YEARS –

She suffered a broken bone in her foot

( one of her teammates came down on it )

And then – after almost six months ( growth plate was fractured )

She came down on it wrong and suffered a hair line fracture to her arch.

Maddy and Ella

They have been close –

very close – all through the years !

I remember the time that Maddy got a new bed –

Ella came to me –

And just like you see her smile here in this picture –

She looked at me and said

” I’VE GOT MADDY’S BED ” !

She was so proud to have her sisters white whicker single bed !

My own thoughts have been sort of a

WHAT IF –

Had she not broken those bones in her foot –

she lost two years of playing.

And in her first year back –

she was selected as MVP

and made the Travel Team!

Her confidence is back –

they both play the same position –

Ella is growing –

she now is a little taller than Maddy –

Has a very good skill set –

And now will play on –

She once again believes

after watching from the side lines.

They both hold their MVP plaques

Graduation Party was Saturday –

guests – players – relatives.

The training has begun –

running hills – sprints –

and Ella has joined in.

It will be a fun Fall

as both will start playing again.

Once again – both will pursue their dreams –

Maddy in college – Ella for two more years in high school.

Sherry – very proud grandma
Signing letter of Intent

Papa’s World – It came to a end – but what a ride !

Let the weekend begin – and a new beginning

Tuesday – we did not have to travel far – just 14 miles up the road.

The regional semi – final –

for James Wood girls soccer –

was on the home field of Loudoun County High School.

And – they had won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP last year – 2018 !

This year their record was better – they were undefeated !

James Wood -Maddy 5th. from left in white – Ella – 6th. from right in white.

It was exciting for us – in our back yard so to speak –

and Ella was brought up from the J.V. team .

A lot of fans – family – traveled the 60 miles to cheer them on.

It was a hard fought game – behind 1 to 0 –

and Loudoun County scored just before half time.

Maddy number 9 – last game as a senior

That score stayed the same

Until the 9:00 minute mark

When the second goal was scored

off a deflection from our own player into the goal.

The final would be Loudoun County 2 — James Wood 0.

Most likely – Loudoun County may repeat as State Champions !

Maddy and Ella

The baton has been passed – Maddy hands it off to Ella –

who has two years left –

and she led the J.V. ‘s –

scoring goals – and assists

it is going to be exciting watching her the next two years !

The SEVEN seniors and their coaches
SEVEN SENIORS One last GROUP HUG – the season is over
Their Idols – the little ones so look up to them
I think Taylor – to the far right – is going to be taller than all of them !
Mother – daughters and father

Bitter sweet –

as Maddy moves on to college and soccer at University Of Lynchburg Va.

Ella – had tryouts for the Winchester United Travel Team Yesterday !

Aunt Tammy and Maddy

Now – it is graduation in less than two weeks –

and preparing for college.

Another soccer season travel begins this Fall with Ella –

and life goes on.

The end of the game

This was a close nit group –

and one final group hug at the end –

some come back –

SEVEN leave for a new life.

All to college –

two will play on –

records were set for the High School .

CLASS – in Victory or Defeat

Before each game –

and after each game –

they come and go the same way.

Led by their Captains –

a walk onto the field

and a walk off the field.

A Class act – I hope it is carried on through the years !

For both girls – Maddy to college – Ella – to travel team

The END and the BEGINNING for both girls –

IT CAME TO A END – BUT WHAT A RIDE –

and it CONTINUES

The journey for the both of them –

Going to be a fun time in our lives.

Hope you enjoyed – stay tuned as the next chapter begins.

PAPA’S WORLD

Papa’s World – the day they grow up – graduate – 18 yrs.

Soon – that word – meaning like just around the corner – is about to happen!

Our little grand daughter Maddy – with her “PIGGY” – which went everywhere she went. Just outside Sherry’ s parents home.

She now is 18 and about to graduate and start a brand new journey at The University of Lynchburg, Va. And signed a letter of intent to play soccer.

Maddy sitting next to her sister Ella at Raquet Lake N.Y.

She has grown into a beautiful young lady – who maintains a 4.10 GPA. Playing soccer at a high level.

Here she is with her two other sisters and her twin cousins. With GIGI who sadly passed away last November – Sherry’s mother.

Through the years – when she was almost as small as the soccer ball – she played – co-ed and then onto two travel teams. One in Winchester Va. and then – to better herself- she traveled 60 miles each way three times a week to practice with the Loudoun RED soccer team.

Forever young in my mind.

The years have swiftly marched by – all the games in and out of state have passed – memorable only in so many pictures taken. Now – she is about to take the final walk on stage – graduate and then go on.

Her drawing years ago of her ” PIGGY” as she called it – so innocent on a swing – memory of sweet youth.

The memory of the little girl – always smiling – always so small – everyone else was so much bigger until the growth spurt of the last few years. Today – she is almost as tall as her grandmother Sherry who is 5 ‘ 9″ !

She has grown into her role as starting midfielder the last four years.

Three sisters – the start of college – leaving the home – and two behind.

The years have gone by so fast – the other two will be left behind at home – but her presence will always be felt – her favorite “PIGGY” on top of the stuffed animals – her MANATEE blanket on the wall. The trampoline will only feel the bounce of the younger two. The sound of the soccer ball will be down to one – her memory will remain – but her journey begins.

Her determination – all conference – signed letter of intent- to play college soccer

Today I blog not a end or an old story – but the beginning of a new book – a new chapter and a new page about to open up – the little one has gone into memory – but the image still lingers in my mind – PACA – is what she called me – I think because she couldn’t quite say PAPA – but she made my World – and I look forward to the travel to watch once again. The memory shall always be with me – the little foot striking the big soccer ball -and then the smile and off she would go.

SMILE A SMILE FOR ME MY LITTLE MADDY

I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did writing it – my tribute to the little one – the soccer ball almost as big as she is.
