Papa’s World – NEW YEARS EVE PARTY WITH FRIENDS – next blog – let the party begin!

Papa’s World – “WE HAVE FRIENDS IN ALL PLACES”

Sherry Elaine Steve Papa

We watched their children grow up – we played league volleyball with them – we golfed with them –

we vacationed with them and they have visited us in our new home.

We have stayed in touch – we play cards and games –

WERE BESTIES!

Western New York –

Portville N.Y.

Steve and Elaine Starks – for the past 35 plus years.

Fred and Lynda

Before Sherry and I were married – Lynda and Fred were my friends – Fred and I graduated together –

our friendship started in Jr. High School all those years ago.

Today – it has been some 54 years and Lynda some 48 t0 50 years.

They now live in Melbourne Florida on the Indian River.

We met up the last time just before the Pandemic.

Little Palm Bay – Florida.

John and Nancy

We first met them at Community Lutheran Church in Sterling Va.

Sherry and Nancy were part of a group of ladies who called themselves THE HENS!

They would meet once a week for lunch and a movie.

John is an opera singer and leader in whatever church over the years they have attended.

They moved to Charleston S.C before we moved and we have stopped and spent time with them.

They have visited us when we were in the condo and we have gotten together a couple times

halfway between Charleston and Ocean Isle Beach. John and Nancy Standbridge White.

Point Pleasant, S.C.

Sherry Papa Cindy Buck

We were neighbors back in Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville N.Y.

We moved in next door to them in 1987.

We had known them before that.

We saw their family grow up as they also watched ours.

We would visit them in their home in Magnolia Greens – Leland – Wilmington N.C.

We always dreamed of moving South and they are one of the main reasons we did.

We play golf weekly or try to.

They would visit us in NVA – Karaoke – golf – a few drinks and tours of DC.

Now – almost 40 years and still great friends!

Wilmington N.C.

Jim and Claudia Martin

Claudia was part of the HENS lady group with Sherry – and we got to know Jim – who has developed Data centers ( the first) in Ireland.

Claudia is a beautiful singer and her and her sons would sing in the Irish pubs and inns.

Jim has been a top executive in many known companies and today is nearing retirement.

We plan on them to visit us in the future and look forward to it.

They have lost over 150 combined lbs. following Sherry’s shreds of sugar and eating healthy.

We had dinner with them over the Christmas Holiday.

Claudia and Jim Martin

From Reston Va.

Jason and Ginger

Ginger is another member of the Hens lady group and her hubby works from home.

We golfed together in NVA and visited each other – took excursions – and after we moved –

They sold their home in Reston Town center, Va.

They purchased a cottage in the far North of Maine –

and Ginger inherited a condo in Sarasota Florida.

Today they spend Summers in Maine and Winters in Sarasota.

We will go to Florida in February to spend a few days

They are in negotiations to build a home outside of Leland N.C. a short distance from Buck and Cindy.

We have already introduced them to each other and plan on future golf outings!

Jason and Ginger Priti Childs from Maine and Florida.

Mike and Carol

We moved in right beside them in 1988.

Pleasant acres drive in Portville N.Y.

Twelve and one-half years we were neighbors!

Many fun times – playing pranks on each other – parties – talking across the fence – they also were close friends to Buck and Cindy.

Racing power ride mowers up and down the street.

Today they are owners of a National Painting Company –

Called Mike John Painting.

We still get together – seeing them in the old neighborhood or visiting them at their second home on Lake Chautauqua in WNY.

We still laugh at all the old times – and are trying to get them to visit us here.

Maybe after all the Pandemic – time will tell.

Mike and Carol John – Portville N.Y.

Sherry Jo and Paul

Sherry and Paul graduated together from Smethport, Pa. H.S.

While Jo was a year behind me at Otto-Eldred H.S.

We did not know the connection until about ten years ago – we attended Sherry’s H.S. reunion

and she introduce me to Paul who in turn introduced Jo to us.

Since that time we have met up in Tucson Az. where they live and also they came for a week to our home in NVA and we toured the DC area!

They took us all over Tucson – Sedona – and Az. in a three-day trip ending up at their home in Tucson.

We get together at their reunion in Smethport Pa.

to Buck and Cindy and Dottie and Jim.

We walk together in the mornings – watch sports at Chubby Budda –

Have dinner out and have taken them to Fat Harolds in NMB.

Spent time at the beach and at each other’s homes as they are here part-time in the winter.

We also have one thing in common – they are from WNY and have a cottage on Rushford Lake.

They know Olean and Portville and the golf courses back there.

Many of the places to eat and are BILLS fans and BONAS fans.

Along the way – we have friends – who after social distancing – come to visit!

And – we walk the gated community – through he gate –

and onto the beach!

The gentle surf of the beach – water and sand!

Our friendships go back years and years.

We all lived by one another – then we all moved away

but that friendship has endured time and distance.

Always from afar – but close when we make plans to get together.

Cindy – Sherry and Dottie
Jim and Buck – Jim and I played softball together in the mid to late ’70’s Buck and Cindy were our neighbors and they also knew Jim and Dottie!

We plan golf – card games and word games!

We drink a little beer – sing a few songs – do a shot – and laugh!

We would set up a get together every 4 to 6 months –

We lived near DC – Jim and Dottie Va. Beach and Cindy and Buck – Wilmington N.C.

Now we have moved further South

about 50 miles from Buck and Cindy.

It is easy for us to get together and golf every weekend.

Jim and Dottie are now the Northerners!

We all have taken up a new game – Pickle Ball!

This last time – we got together at our condo – played two days of golf –

and Pickleball has now become another game we shall play!

We all practice good health – Sherry – who is a certified Health Coach – leads the way!

She has her own website and for 15 years has been the one who encourages all of us!

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com HEALTH AND NUTRITION AT IT’S BEST!

Papas World – Sheltering Day#56 – birthday!

May 7th. 2020 – 71 years old – Pandemic – Social Distancing

Guess I am always going to remember this one!

My wife Sherry – made it a very special day – but she messed up –

and two days before – let the cat out of the bag.

We were going to practice SOCIAL DISTANCING –

BUT – we were going to use our patio which is very large

over 500 square feet and enclosed by a fence and the house

and each family of grand kids will come at specific times

so no one is here at the same time!

My little buddy would also be here
Bode – this picture taken two years ago
gosh – how I miss them all

The first family of Mike – Debby – Maddy – Ella and Sarah

came at 12:30 pm. They parked outback – walked around the back yard

and into the patio –

where we had seating for everyone but at least six feet apart.

They gave me cards they had made – the three girls –

they always make me special crafted cards.

I cherish them and save each one.

Have since they were little!

Now the whole family except Ella – eats very little meat

so we ordered a pizza delivery –

we paid on the site and they delivered

they do not even see you or knock

they text that the pizza is by the front door and then drive off!

We had also fruit – gluten free chips – salsa – wheat less pretzels

And my favorite cake that we made a special trip to WEGMENS

White coconut cream cake! ( which has been years since I had)

We celebrated by each staying in our own seats – laughing –

and then the text – the second group were on their way.

Time to leave – no hugs – but lots of smiles – kind words.

They left – and then it was time to see the little ones and their parents

same routine – the little ones have followed their older cousins

each in turn made special cards and gave to me

(Tammy – Marcus – Taylor – Cassidy & Bode !

How I miss them all.

They dressed up – the little ones – just for this occasion.)

I guess at my age I am sentimental – but to me –

these are the best presents – the cards

for years and years I have saved them!

It will be fun one day to bring them all out and show them

when they are all grown up!

We spent two hours just the same as we did with the older ones.

Sheltering in place on my birthday – strange no hugs –

no handshakes – but – the smiles and laughs.

Earlier I had gotten a call –

From my two sons back in NWPA –

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD” !

I AM BLESSED – my wife made this all happen –

And the boys called me!

What more could I ask for –

A PUZZLE!

Sherry got me another puzzle – 500 pieces!

And a new warm pull over shirt –

which in this freaky Spring of rain and cold

I SHALL WEAR!

Sheltering in place Day# 56 – best birthday ever –

now to get busy and put PUZZLE # 8 together

glad when this is all over!

Welcome to Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY!

Papas World – golfing- staying in touch – 38 yrs.

We played softball together in the mid ’70’s

and continued until I turned 40.

Then I played volleyball –

sometimes we played together

when I turned 48 –

I was getting too old – I turned to golf

and today – we still get together

drink a few beers and swing away

me more often than him! LOL

My buddy Jim

I am 9 years older – but we first met on the softball field

I went to his wedding

and we have been friends ever since.

We worked together before we moved

and along the way he introduced me to his friend Buck!

Buck Tom Jim
the three Amigo’s
as my wife Sherry says!

We ended up living right across the street from Buck and Cindy.

And we all would meet up-

and to this day some 35 plus years later – we still do!

Sherry Buck Cindy Dottie

Every 4 to 6 months we try to do this –

going from one house to the other

Buck and Cindy live just South of Wilmington N.C. now.

Jim and Dottie now live in Va. Beach area.

And of course we live SW of DC.

Our journey from back home – NWPA and SWNY has evolved

But we still stay in touch!

Sherry Dottie Cindy

These three together laugh and laugh –

and they sneak the fireball!

Esp. when we golf – it almost always is guys vs. the gals.

And let me tell you – NO STROKES !

Jim wants to give strokes -and they will whip us!

We have played for years and years even up

and most often it comes down to one stroke difference!

Jim and Sherry

We all were Bills fans – we kind of adopted the Redskins

only because when we moved -no one carried the Bills.

We tried for three years – there were two Sports bars

but it took a long time to get to them in DC traffic.

So – we still followed the Bills and watched the skins.

Cindy Jim Sherry Dottie

But Cindy and Buck – Dottie and Jim have remained die hard Bills Fans!

We got together this season in Wilmington

and all went to a Sports bar called the Lazy Pirate –

where we watched the Bills win!

Cindy Buck Sherry Tom

On our trip to Northern California – at a Sports bar –

in old town Sacramento!

We have been trying to get Jim and Dottie to come along

with us on one of our trips.

Maybe this year they will!

Sherry Dottie Buck
Cindy Tom Jim

It will happen one of these times

Maybe Nashville – or Gatlinburg or Oregon!

Who know where it will be next!

This is us

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
