Papa’s World – The Kentucky Derby Party!

Thirty-plus people came –

The food was delish –

The company was excellent,

and we all got to meet one another.

The ladies and some of the men wore straw hats – NOT ME!

All the names of the horses were put into a container –

And you bought a name.

You then reached in and withdrew your horse for the race.

We were all glued to the TV over the mantle.

The three winners – middle first place, left second place, and right third place(Sherry)!

Kentucky Derby ladies and their hats!

PAPA’S WORLD – THE KENTUCKY DERBY PARTY!

Papa’s World – Decorating for Kentucky Derby party.

Our little community came together for a party!

KENTUCKY DERBY!

Kathy – Diane and Sherry did the main decorating.

Kathy – Sherry and Diane.

It was Kathy’s idea,

And they jumped in and helped!

The women all wore hats –

Dresses and the men some had straw hats –

and various forms of dress!

Diane purchased this at a thrift store and did the decorating.

For fun – everyone who wanted to –

Bought a horse out of a jar named.

That would be your horse for the race,

and the first three places paid.

The room was all decorated.

We have a beautiful community center –

And on the website,

It was announced several times with the date and time.

A bunch of tables for food and desserts –

Everyone brought something to eat.

You supplied your own drinks.

Chairs were arranged to watch the race on the TV.

We had so many people that a lot stood and watched.

They had seating for 25, but had more than that.

Here is the seating,

And in the far left back is the bar and kitchen with additional seats.

Paper plates, cups, napkins,

and utensils were donated and provided.

They made the decorations on the fireplace –

A fun time was had by all.

Papa’s World – Sea Catains House – invited by Diane.

In Myrtle Beach,

There is a Restaurant –

that has been there for decades.

Originally built as a home in 1930-

It now serves the best seafood I have ever eaten.

Seen from the parking lot across the main street-

It does not look big –

But it is huge on the inside.

There are many large rooms and levels inside.

It sits beachfront –

And the staff is dressed to the hilt.

Our friend and neighbor –

Diane invited us as a way-

to celebrate our friendship of four years.

Her husband Steve –

Passed away in January and was a good friend.

She told us she wanted to take us to a special place-

And this was excellent.

We ate inside as it was windy on the outside patio.

We all ordered the fish off the varied menu.

I had GRILLED – FLOUNDER and SHRIMP and a BAKED POTATO.

I have to say – there was no leftover for me or Sherry or Diane-

Who both ordered two items different from me.

After dinner –

We made our way to the beach.

Here you can see the back and just how large the building is.

Deceptive from the front –

Excellent food and service.

Papa’s World – Writing blogs – creating GOOD thoughts.

GOOD DAY!

Writing blogs is a hobby –

That has turned into a way of life for me!

My routine is sometimes after midnight –

I get up and check out my stats on my blogsite!

And then I –

Share a blog I had written some time ago-

on Facebook!

My blog will automatically post at midnight on WordPress-

And go out to worldwide subscribers.

Where they receive an email –

And can read at their leisure and then delete it!

Sharing on Facebook –

is something I have to copy and paste to my site.

Over the years,

I have written hundreds and even thousands of blogs.

They are stored on my WordPress home page.

This is a journal of sorts,

encouraged by my wife, Sherry.

Here she is at one of her meetings with her team.

She is a certified Health Coach.

Nineteen years she has been with The JUICE PLUS COMPANY!

Today we live near OIB and SUNSET BEACH in NC.

My daily blogs are about family, friends, events,

and our lives in general.

There are over 655 subscribers worldwide on WordPress.

And over 1000 on my Facebook page.

LOL -that sums it up on my golf game.

We try to play twice a month.

We also volunteer our time to the Food Pantry –

Coastal Point elderly living –

Protection for Sea Turtles.

And donating the books we read to wherever we can.

CREATING GOOD THOUGHTS in my blogs.

Writing helps me keep my mind sharp

I hope this starts your day-

In a good way.

Living a few miles from two beaches –

Whenever we choose –

We go!

This has always been my dream.

I used to go on vacation-

To the beach –

And how fast it would go by –

And then pack up and return home.

Today, on the checkout days –

I watch the families do just that.

And there I sit-

I sit in my beach chair and watch them go back home.

My dream is now real – This is now my life-

A POSITIVE DREAM COMES TRUE!

OUR BEACH LIFE!

LOL – But the POSITIVE is I keep coming back!

Being in our senior years –

We take pleasure in playing golf.

Not all the time –

But when we do –

Being in nature –

On the course –

A dream we had when working.

Now, that dream is a reality.

A POSITIVE LIFESTYLE AFTER ALL THE YEARS OF WORKING!

Humor – smiles – laughter –

Sunshine – blue skies –

Ocean – sand and surf.

No snow-no-ice!

A lot to be said for dreams coming true!

Opening my “STATS” page at WordPress –

I find daily the places folks live –

That reads my blogs.

Here is a snapshot of when I opened the page.

The number of “SUBSCRIBERS” is now close to 660 – WORLDWIDE!

I started this at the suggestion of my wife-

Sherry-

To write and save the blogs to a site –

And then they would not be lost in the Cloud!

My blogs are mostly about Family, Friends, Places, Events –

A journal of our life together.

My goal is to have a place where future generations can read what our lives were all about.

I also bring kindness, compassion, humor,

and laughs.

POSITIVE WRITINGS!

My son Shawn, Sherry, and his wife Trisha.

They still live back in NWPA –

Where Sherry and I both grew up.

It takes them pretty close to 16 hours to drive down here.

They own and operate their own Auditing – Insulating business –

For contracts from the state-

Power companies –

To help the elderly in Pa.

Shawn also competes in Pool tournaments –

Numerous times,

winning his way to Las Vegas!

A POSITIVE WRITING ON FAMILY!

Cassidy – one of the twins!

She is competing in Gymnastics –

She is also a cheerleader.

Here she demonstrates her ability at OIB-

Sunset across the marsh!

POSITIVE BLOGGING!

Cassidy is also an artist.

She drew this when she was eleven years old.

She can look at a subject and put it on paper.

A POSITIVE INFLUENCE IN HER YOUNG LIFE!

Today – Taylor, Cassidy, and their mother Tammy!

The Swedish genes from Sherry run deep in the family!

They are twins –

And before full term –

The doctor said now is the time.

They were taken from the womb-

Both under 2 pounds.

Taylor was the bigger of the two.

There was no choice,

and it just happened to be Tammy’s birthday.

So today they all share the same birthday.

A POSITIVE WRITING!

LOVE IS POSITIVE IN OUR LIVES!

We were all friends back in NVA!

Today, Jim and Claudia live a short four miles from us.

Having sold their home in Reston,

they built a house near us.

Ginger and Jason sold their home back in Reston –

And built a new home outside of Leland, N.C.

They are 38 miles from us.

Papa’s World – POSITIVE BLOG WRITING!

Taken almost five years ago –

Taylor ( who is now as tall as Sherry) and Bode.

This is when we lived in Ocean Keyes before our new home was built.

This is part of the huge complex-

Over 780 condos close to North Myrtle Beach –

There were six swimming pools –

A huge tennis court-

Numerous benches to sit and watch the Swans on the lake.

Here they are taking the half-mile walk to the beach,

sand, and surf.

We made this a daily walk for the nine months we lived there.

Most of the walk was within the resort.

A POSITIVE PICTURE OF A TIME GONE PAST!

Today, Taylor poses outside the barn where she works for free!

For over ten years –

She has trained to ride horses-

And does everything required to take care of them.

Her dream is to find a college with an Equestrian program.

Spending her free time working in the barn –

She loves it –

Thus, a POSITIVE WRITING OF HER DREAMS IN HORSE OWNERSHIP!

LOL – I need a sense of humor to golf!

Today, Bode – whom I think will be eventually the tallest of the three grandkids-

Stands on the cart path –

He has taken up golfing along with flag football and soccer.

Sports, I feel –

will have a POSITIVE IMPACT ON HIS LIFE!

Sherry and I are out on the golf course.

We try to play a couple of times a month.

Senior living in the South-

Warm most of the months-

We both do not like snow and ice.

Instead, blue skies and sunshine.

We have both of those here!

Giving us a POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE!

We maintain as much as we can on THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE!

Papa’s World – Goal – to write positive blogs!

The view from the lanai on the fourth floor –

From the condo we rented in Ocean Keyes-

North Myrtle Beach-

For nine months, while our new home was built –

In Cameron Woods Community!

It was only by chance that we found this!

I had been searching once we decided to sell our forever home!

It was during the Pandemic –

And our 401K took a major hit!

While all of a sudden –

The value of our home started to climb!

A POSITIVE MADE OUT OF A NEGATIVE!

We made our choice to build near this beach –

OCEAN ISLE BEACH-

In North Carolina –

On the mainland near the ICW!

Also – just a couple more miles is SUNSET BEACH-

With a similar causeway bridge-

Over the ICW!

ANOTHER POSITIVE IN OUR RETIREMENT LIFE!

We wanted to be near golf courses –

And these views are from Sea Trails –

The ending holes on the Jones course and the Byrd course!

We are in the middle of some 30 golf courses here in North Carolina-

Some eight miles to the border of South Carolina!

A BIG POSITIVE FOR US!

This view is what sold Sherry and me on renting this condo.

We did it for a couple of months at a time-

We were building a new home.

We had three bedrooms, a kitchen, and two bathrooms.

A living room and a dining area.

The lanai extended across the entire condo, facing the lake with fountains.

There are over 750 condos here –

Six swimming pools –

A basketball and tennis court.

Six fountains were going down the lake-

And a half-mile walk to the beach entrance.

Most of that was inside the security of Ocean Keyes.

Then, we could walk along North Myrtle Beach Main Street.

This was during the full-blown Pandemic.

We were almost the only people out and about while walking!

This became a negative, but turned into a positive for us!

Debby, her daughter,

and two of her three daughters visit and walk in the surf.

The WHY we decided to build near here.

When family visits –

They have access to two beaches.

A BIG POSITIVE FOR THEN AND US!

Today, while we no longer have that fantastic view of the lake and fountains of Ocean Keyes-

We have this from our front porch in the shade all day long!

This is Cameron Woods Community.

Ocean Isle Beach –

A ten-minute drive

and you are standing on the beach.

We have turned ONE POSITIVE into ANOTHER POSITIVE for us and our family and friends!

Good morning –

Today – positive beginnings to every day!

Kindness and smiles are free!

Marley – Goldendoodle-

Belongs to our family in Leesburg, VA.

Always happy to see us-

Wiggling – licking –

A joy to be around!

Our granddaughter Taylor –

Who has trained Marley to do so many tricks and other things.

She has a way with animals.

Since she was four years old –

She has been involved with horses.

She now rides – jumps –

And her love of horses is so strong –

That she volunteers her time working in the barn-

Sweeping out stalls – Grooming the horses.

Her dream is to go to college, which offers equestrian studies!

A POSITIVE THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

Papa and Bode –

The day we went to his school to have lunch with him.

A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE!

All those little things –

You do them right –

And the bigger things in life will excel!

Looking back to when they were little.

Papa’s World – 1999 – we first saw it – 2019 – the last one “ROLLING THUNDER”

MIA – POW – AMERICAN FLAG

Memorial Day weekend – 1999 –

e had just agreed to a transfer to work in NVA –

the Three of us – Sherry – myself and our youngest daughter Tammy –

Had just come up on the street in D.C. at Foggy Bottom –

George Washington University –

we were going to tour Washington – when we heard the ROAR !

MOTOR CYCLES – a lot of motor cycles – what was going on ?

Thousands of Motorcycles

There were bikes everywhere – parked – every place you could fit one –

and flags – black leather – tattoo’s – noise – vendors –

As we walked down hill and closer to Constitution Avenue – the crowds were huge !

Our grand daughters – Ella and Maddy

2019 – Memorial Day weekend – 20 years to the day later –

we retraced those steps –

this time with our two oldest grand daughters – Ella & Maddy Myers.

Just across the 14 th. street bridge the Pentagon parking lot.

They had come to stay with us for a couple days –

these two laugh and giggle all the time –

but across the bridge – from the Pentagon – came the noise

The ROAR – thousands and thousands of bikes – riders – flags on the rear –

And lining the street – sometimes 10 deep –

the whole of Constitution Avenue – Tens of thousands of people !

We met up with family

We met up with part of our family who had come from afar – Pa. & N.C.-Va.

To see what is to be the LAST RIDE of

” ROLLING THUNDER ” !

It has gotten too costly – and I guess some ill will from the Pentagon –

Too bad as they are riding for our VETS – POW’S and MIA’S !

Ella- Sherry – Maddy and me

What we first saw 20 years ago – we were able to share with these two.

A beautiful day to walk around –

see DC as you never see it with Bikes everywhere !

And to share this with family !

Nathan – Mr. “B” – Lindsey from Pa.

Kristy & Casey from N.C.
Mia & Olivia from NC

We spent the day watching the ” ROAR” which went from Noon –

and was still going at 4:00 PM.

Cousins – with the Balsis and Jones family

Kyle and Bethany from Manassas Va. – their five children and a guest .

Casey and Tom- PICK A PAIR ! LOL
The RIDE
They parked everywhere they could find a space
Ella – Maddy and Sherry
Our oldest grand daughter Maddy – a American Elm tree planted in 1850
The Capital from the Mall

My happy place when we visit and walk DC – THE MALL !

It says it all

20 years we have been doing this –

bringing family – friends and sometimes just ourselves –

riding in on the Metro or driving in –

Wishing everyone a great Memorial day –

” ALL GAVE SOME – SOME GAVE ALL “

WHY WE ARE FREE

The “ROARING THUNDER ” was established for the VETS of the Vietnam War.

Today – it is a symbol for ALL VETS –

let us not forget those Vets –

And each day forward –

let us remember the NAM vets in a war no one wanted –

but they served –

They were not welcomed home –

politics has a way of doing that –

” ROLLING THUNDER ” was for them –

and my memories go back to that day in 1999 –

I am forever grateful for them –

for by the grace of God – it could of been me.

Sherry & Tom

I hope you enjoyed our little trip down memory lane –

many times we have stood right here.

Papa’s World – Good times in memories!

He is now 11 years old –

The first grandson from Debby and Tammy –

Debby has three daughters-

and Tammy has two daughters,

and Bode.

Today he plays soccer, flag football, and golf.

He is all boy.

He also sings like his sisters in the church choir –

And is interested in performing in plays, as are the older girls.

These pictures bring back GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

Before we sold our home in Brambleton –

Each Easter, we would have an Easter Egg hunt!

Taylor – Cassidy – Sarah – Ella – Bode and Maddy.

The many memories we had here in this home –

All the grandkids are coming to spend overnights.

THESE ARE GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

Sherry is in my brother Rogers’ second golf cart.

We would spend six weeks in the winter after Christmas with him –

At his home in The Villages in Florida.

We often went golfing with him

He had two golf carts.

This is the one we would use.

Many fond memories of traveling throughout The Villages in this cart.

Sherry had an app that was a GPS,

and we would never get lost.

GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

A humor of marking my ball!

One of my dearest and longtime friends.

Buck McBride –

We were neighbors in Portville, N.Y.

They moved away to N.C.

In the mid-90s.

But we stayed in touch-

And we have vacationed around the World with him and Cindy.

We now live 38 miles away from them and often get back together.

Here we are on our latest vacation together at Winter Garden in Florida.

GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

Bob and Pam –

My grade school buddy –

Playing sports together-

Pam and Sherry hit it off.

They have traveled and camped in a Class A RV –

For the past six years.

They have made it a point to camp near us-

for the last six years, for a week.

This time, after we spent a week with the McBrides –

We stayed on and spent four days with them-

Staying in a friend’s camper near them at the campground.

Here, we spent a day with them renting a golf cart-

and touring THE VILLAGES.

Creating GOOD TIMES IN MEMORIES!

Papa is on the beach with my new hat to keep the skin cancer away from my face!

I go every six months for check-ups!

Preventive care for me!

Irish skin – and the Sun – do not mix!

The doctor said it could not go full term.

The procedure was performed, and we had two tiny babies.

Papa’s World – weekend ? In retirement you count the days by Garbage !

I never imagined – back when – as I neared retirement – I would sometimes not remember what day of the week it was ! Nor – would I ever wonder – with the hours of each day – “HOW DID I EVER FIND TIME TO WORK”?

You want to stay Young ? You want to stay active ? To do that – at least I find – the way I remember – is that Monday night is put out the GARBAGE – and pick up is Tuesday ! Now – that I remember for some reason. Also – I know it is Monday – because that is the day Tammy – our daughter – closes her store up , Kids 529 Consignment shop ! So – she does not work that day – and in the school year – I do not pick up the twins from school.

Bode – Cassidy and Taylor- Tammy & Marcus little ones.

The rest of the week – each day – I go and wait in a car line to pick up the girls – and I get there early – so I am usually second in line – and the line when school is out is about 70 or more cars ! So – I am prepared – I take my water -maybe a snack- a pillow – and leave the car on – it is a Hybrid so it mostly runs on the battery. I kick the seat back and turn my favorite radio show on – 106.7 – the Sports radio show that covers the D.C. area.

Sometimes I even drift off for a power nap!

Cassidy – Bode & Taylor 8 – 4 – 8 years old.

That takes me up to Tuesday – garbage day and pick up the girls day. Wednesday is take the twins to choir day – and meet Granny -( Jennie )- Marcus mother – who picks up Bode every day from preschool.

She takes him home and when Marcus is done – he picks him up and then will come to our house and pick up the twins.

But – Wednesday is church choir and all three sing – even Bode who can not read but will memorize the words and they are good singers.

We now have covered Monday thru Wednesday . Thursday – I start preparing again for garbage day – but also recycle day – by setting everything out for pick up on Friday !

At National Harbor – Washington D.C. Sherry’s shirt says it all!

There are also days that we will journey into D.C. for special trips – taking all the grand kids – we took the two oldest – Maddy and Ella – and got off at Arlington – took in the Tomb of the Unknown soldier and then walked across the 14 th. street bridge and spent the day at all the memorials – walking the Mall and having lunch. We walked miles that day and they loved it.

So – that leaves Friday – the day the GARBAGE & RECYCLES are picked up. I count the days by that format – very seldom do I know the exact date – I can look at the top of the paper – or my phone.

On Oahu – North Shore NO CARES – NO WORRIES #livinglifetotheplus

But to be perfectly honest with you – being retired – it does not really matter – I also count down days by what we have scheduled coming up ! Yes -we PLAN- put it down in writing – search and research – add names of visitors to come – the dates and what we are going to do. Some people can not do that for whatever reason – but not us – WE DO IT! Such as so goes our life – we live life to the plus one day at a time – but we know what is ahead – after all – for us – that is part of the excitement – just like little kids – “HOW MANY SLEEPS ARE LEFT PAPA ” ?

And then the early morning comes and you head out – all part of that special time – now I look back – and I wonder – JUST HOW DID I FIND TIME TO WORK ?

RETIREMENT – YOU COUNT THE DAYS BY GARBAGE – the weekends – well they are just another day -most times you just do not care !

Papa’s World – More memorable times in pictures.

We were all friends back in NVA-

We were the first to move to N.C.

Then Jim and Claudia and Jason, and Ginger bought lots-

And had their homes built.

Jim and Claudia are about four miles away-

Ginger and Jason live just outside Leland, near Buck and Cindy.

We often get together, and this time was at Barefoot Landing –

At The Big Chill restaurant.

Becoming a memorable time in a picture!

Sherry and Cindy-

Back in the late 80s and mid 90s –

We were neighbors in WNY.

They moved to Leland, and we would visit.

We have traveled the world with them!

Buck and I are on the golf course.

We almost always play a scramble with the girls.

Neighbors from a long time ago –

Today we live about 35 miles from them.

We have traveled the World with them –

Most recently –

To Florida, where we met up –

Shared an AIRBNB –

And went to Epcot together.

Becoming memorable times in pictures!

Before we moved to N.C.-

We often went to D.C.

Here we are at the National Harbor-

With Tammy and Taylor, Cassidy and Bode.

Many memories of fun family times.

Becoming memorable times in pictures.

Humor and laughs keep me coming back for more golf – LOL!

Playing golf here in N.C. and S.C.

If the ball goes into the water – “LEAVE IT”!

Also, snakes – I am always careful in looking for my golf ball!

Another memorable picture in time.

My brother Roger at The Villages car and golf cart show.

We would spend the winter with him at his house near Lake Sumter Landing.

He is now gone, but forever remembered by me.

Another memorable picture in time.

Papa’s World – Great times in pictures!

Sherry, Maddy, and Papa.

Here we celebrate Maddy signing a letter of intent-

To play soccer at the University of Lynchburg.

She would go on to play as a Freshman –

Third team all-conference as a Sophomore,

Second team all-conference as a Junior,

And team captain as a senior, winning the conference championship.

In two of the four years, the team made the NCAA playoffs!

From the smallest one on the co-ed soccer team –

To a successful college career-

Today, she is an Environmental Scientist working for one of the largest firms in the country.

Creating for this blog –

GREAT TIMES IN PICTURES!

Nearby, where we call home-

Cameron Woods Community –

Ocean Isle Beach.

Here you see the sunset over the marsh next to the causeway bridge.

This is behind the non-domination church.

We often take the family here to view the sunset and take pictures.

GIVING GREAT TIMES IN PICTURES!

Marcus and Bode-

The little guy is playing golf now –

And they are going to get him lessons.

Today, he drove the ball really well.

He loves flag football and plays soccer.

He is a natural, and someday I hope to see him compete!

ANOTHER GREAT TIME IN PICTURES!

On Sherry’s bucket list –

It was going to EPCOT to see the FLOWERS SHOW!

Here we traveled to Florida and joined up with Cindy and Buck.

Her dream came true as we spent the day wandering among all the displays of brilliant flowers!

We have traveled the world with them and added this to our adventures.

ANOTHER GREAT TIME IN PICTURES!

To play golf, I have to have humor! LOL!

In Cameron Woods Community –

We have a beautiful community center –

And a pool behind it.

Here, Taylor and Bode enjoyed the almost empty pool.

This was mid-April, and the water temperature was still only 68 degrees!

But they didn’t care!

Papa’s World – Memories in pictures!

Bode and Cassidy –

He is the first grandson,

and Cassidy is a twin of Taylor.

Not identical but fraternal.

But now, all these years later –

Bode and Cassidy are so alike.

Here are the three of them –

Taylor is very tall –

Almost 5’9″ –

Cassidy is 5’6″.

I think Bode will be very tall –

But he and Cassidy act so much alike,

And it is hard to tell who is speaking –

When you can not see them.

But Taylor and Bode played together in the pool for hours.

He seems to get along better with her.

Cassidy does her own thing –

But – she is very protective of him.

All three sing in the choir.

Taylor and Cassidy did plays –

But now Cassidy has chosen Cheerleading and Gymnastics.

Taylor chooses the plays and horseback riding.

Bode – I think will do plays, but –

Also plays flag football, Soccer, and Golf.

It is a busy household,

Running the three of them to whatever they are doing!

When they were little –

Taylor, Bode, and Cassidy.

Papa’s World – Good Morning and have a great day !

Each day – I try to be positive

My blogs each day are for the most part a POSITIVE in a very Negative news day !

My criteria – follows three rules of thought for me.

One – share a smile ! Two – share a good feeling ! Three – be POSITIVE !

NORMAL ?

I could be a bit normal – but – I guess I am not – however – I see normal !

I see stories – I ask questions – I write them down – I memorize them.

My MOTTO

I live each day as it will be my last –

I plan ahead – I organize – I DREAM !

I call it ” LIVING LIFE TO THE PLUS ” one day at a time !

One of my favorites

George Carlin –

one of my favorites – always thought provoking –

He told a lot of truth – and made me think !

I think this fits today’s World

I could write on POLITICS each and every day –

endless – but I choose not to.

Instead – I look for gratitude –

I see rights and wrongs

I yearn for peace

And I look upward for guidance

I hope this explains my reasons for blogging –

my innermost thoughts.

Blogging is a way of reaching out –

extending thoughts and pleasant ideas.

To make a difference for one day in your life –

to be happy .

Sit back – grab a drink –

mine is coffee –

and just enjoy a moment to feel good before your day starts.

Then at the end of the day –

be reminded –

that in this blog – there is peace.

My three rules –

why I write each day !

Thank you and go in peace.

Papa’s World – Memories with family and friends.

In The Villages in Florida!

Here stands my older brother Roger-

Waiting to TEE OFF!

Before he passed away –

We would drive down for years and spend about six weeks with him.

At one point, he asked if we would move down and stay with him.

Sadly, we could not.

But the time we spent with him in those years was PRICELESS!

RIP, my brother –

Gone but not forgotten.

MEMORIES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

We have known one another for decades.

Friends, we often get together.

We were neighbors, and some of us grew up in the same town.

Friendships through the years –

MEMORIES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

This is a picture of the causeway bridge over the ICW to Ocean Isle Beach.

In ten minutes from our house –

We can cross this bridge to the island.

Straight ahead is the pier.

On the left, before you get to the circle, is the OIB Park-

From May to the end of September-

Open-air concerts are held for free!

This beach is also where we volunteer for the Protection of Sea Turtles.

This starts in May and ends in October.

Many a day we are there walking –

Or sitting and watching the nest until they hatch.

We make sure they get to the water and into the ocean.

This is one of two beaches near where we live.

The other is SUNSET BEACH!

We visit that one often.

Welcome to our area where we live!

Humor – smiles and laughs.

There is a place on OIB –

A church and behind this church on the marsh –

Sits a gazebo.

A lot of folks go to see the sunset on Sunset Beach.

We have also done that.

But – here you can park-

Walk down to the gazebo-

And capture the marsh, the water, and the sunset!

MEMORIES!

My youngest son and I.

He lives in NWPA and is 16 hours away.

But twice, he and his wife have been down to visit.

Creating more memories of family!

Back when we lived in Brambleton, Northern VA,

The twins lived a mile from us.

Oftentimes, they would come to visit.

Here they sit on the floor by the front door.

Waiting for the arrival of their cousins.

A moment in time captured in a picture for a memory of a lifetime.

Papa – Bode – Tammy – Marcus – Cassidy – Sherry – and Taylor –

Last night of their stay –

In spring before Easter.

On the patio of SUNSET PRIME!

This was a first for us on the covered deck outside!

The food and service were very good –

The view was of two finishing holes of the 9th. and 18th. holes.

Watching as the foursomes finished up around 5:30 PM.

From our table –

A view to the right at the finishing hole –

I think this was number 18!

This is being developed as a destination resort for the SEA TRAILS GOLF RESORT!

Major improvements have been added and redesigned.

A 150-room hotel is planned –

There already is a convention center-

And brand new restaurants, of which SUNSET PRIME is one.

Here I believe is the finishing 9th. hole.

There is an outdoor fire pit with seating for over a dozen folks.

There are dozens of large-screen TVs inside –

and seating for a lot of people.

SUNDAY NFL FOOTBALL is a draw,

and different sets have different games.

We will be back and take visitors to enjoy the good food and view.

This is only four miles from our home.

Papa’s World – Positive vibes – feeling good!

When I look back years to when this picture was taken-

The twins – Taylor and Cassidy-

It brings many memories of when they were little.

Hugging, playing, and laughing.

Today, things have changed.

They both are their own identities.

Cassidy – Gymnastics – Cheerleading –

Taylor – acting on stage – singing and dancing –

And becoming an accomplished horse rider.

Both different –

Yet the same –

When not in my view –

Hard to distinguish who is speaking.

Both sing in the choir-

Both play the Violin-

Both are growing into beautiful young ladies.

BOTH – GIVING ME POSITIVE VIBES and GOOD FEELINGS!

A little bit of humor –

Bringing a good feeling today!

The Ocean is angry –

The white caps are endless –

But this is also our happy place!

We wanted to be near the beach –

The sand and surf.

To be able to walk –

GIVING ME POSITIVE VIBES AND GOOD FEELINGS!

Storms come and go –

Rainbows, sunshine-

and starry nights, and the moon.

All bring me –

POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND GOOD FEELINGS!

When the oldest granddaughter chooses to spend long weekends with her grandparents.

Maddy – an Environmental Scientist –

makes my heart feel so good-

Giving us both POSITIVE VIBES AND GOOD FEELINGS!

Taylor on her first horse ride years ago!

Papa’s World – Positive thinking!

My youngest son, Shawn, and his wife, Trisha.

For years and years, he has been playing pool.

In all those years –

He has won his way to Las Vegas and world pool tournaments.

Here – this year – he won another tournament in Erie, Pa.

On his way again to Las Vegas.

POSITIVE THINKING and excellent play,

moves him forward year after year.

Came across this diagram on where to place your feet –

When hitting certain clubs!

Now, if only I could just do this and hit the ball! LOL

Every day, I thank my wife, my doctors, and my lifestyle of trying to age healthily.

It is not easy –

But POSITIVE THINKING keeps me going forward one day at a time.

Two nearby beaches –

Shopping nearby and entertainment.

Winters are mostly without snow and ice.

POSITIVE THINKING leads us to where we now live.

Living life to the plus one day at a time.

Each day with a sunrise – and everything in between –

I have had one more day I have had –

to enjoy life to the fullest.

POSITIVE THINKING – leads to less stress.

Papa’s World – Friends – The Library – Beer and Fireball Shots – Keeping in touch

On our recent get together – a beer tasting in a old house with a fake library !

Try as hard as we can – life gets busy – but for over 35 years – we have stayed in touch – getting together at each others houses – every 4 or 5 months.

We are now spread out – Wilmington N.C. – Va. Beach and D.C. area – but we remain good friends.

Last Fall – our golf outing in Va. Beach – guys vs. gals.

Last Fall – we all got together – to play golf on several courses in the Va. Beach area. The format was GUYS VS. GALS – and I advocated ” NO STROKES ” as some of us have done this before and ” THE GALS” are just too darn good to give up STROKES !

Well – I was right – they had a STROKE a hole and they kicked our butts ! Even without the STROKES it was almost even ! Now we all are not PAR golfers – they ended up minus par with the strokes – and we were a little over par – but the jest of the whole thing was we had fun ! Plus I think they were nipping the FIREBALL more often than not !!!!! LOL

This was taken in Oahu – when the four of us went and played golf.

My wife Sherry – has the perfect form and swing – always straight down the middle of the fairway – can not remember the last time we had to look for her ball. Cindy – hits it a ton – going out into the fairway – neither one gets into trouble – the guys – not so much – never know WHERE my ball will go ! That is what makes them so good – straight and usually on the green or close on the second shot – depending how long the hole is.

Yep – that is me on Oahu – the valley over from where they shot Jurassic Park.

We try to play golf where ever we go – but – we also do Karaoke – well – I try to – but that is the only time I sing ! Cindy has her own Karaoke machine and all the songs – she brings it to most get together’s. Our theme songs are Desperado and Friends in low places. We get pretty involved in New York – New York. I have video’s but I promised I would not share them !

On our golf outing back home in NWPA – Sherry and Cindy .

Now I am not much of a Wine drinker nor much of a hard drinker – I stick mainly to light beer – and only on special occasions. However – I will take a nip of Fireball and as sometimes – well a lot of times when we golf together – I will join the others on birdies and sometimes long pars – with a little toast of the fireball. All in all – we do have a lot of fun.

Keeping in touch – friends – beer and fireball – living our lives to the plus.

Hope you enjoyed – keep the good health up – and keep in touch with friends

Papa’s World – Positivity – Humor and good vibes!

When the family visited in the Spring!

Here is daughter Debby-

and Ella-

to the far right-

And Sarah is to the far left.

Her daughters and our granddaughters.

This is a yearly visit –

But the granddaughters are getting older.

Ella has graduated from college,

and Sarah will enter college soon.

Hopefully, like their older sister Maddy –

She continues to visit on her own –

When she has vacation time to spend with us!

Bringing “GOOD VIBES” into our lives!

Humor on the golf course!

In my game –

I need a lot of humor!

Yes – as my friends state –

If this is a par or birdie –

YOU MUST PUTT IT! LOL

Me – I just SMILE and mark my ball! LOL!

HUMOR makes life so much easier!

” TO ME IT IS A GIMMIE”!

The view from my seat on the glider on the front porch!

This is one of the reasons –

MY WHY –

To purchase this lot and build our home here.

I wanted on my “WISH” list a front porch in the shade-

Where I could sit and watch the folks go by!

A place to just “CHILL” out in the shade.

THIS IS MY POSITIVITY for the day!

Papa’s World – Good thoughts – the COLORS of flowers! DEER!

In our daily lives –

FLOWERS bring joy with our own eyesight!
Sherry and I – try as we might – display flowers.

These are not ours –

But in our new home near OIB-

It is a constant struggle with DEER!

Wherever we visit –

We both take many pictures of flower gardens.

The problem with DEER –

Is in our complete neighborhood!

They even come onto porches and eat the flowers!

So when we see flower arrangements in gardens –

There is a sort of envy because we just can not do that!

I have tried all sorts of sprays –

Different flowers that they won’t eat ( they still do)!

I once posted this problem on my social media page-

They gave me some ideas and said if that doesn’t work, then –

“EAT THEM”!!!! LOL

No – I will not hurt them –

So we do not plant –

As we normally would!

However,

I capture the places we have been –

Such as here at Epcot –

Wonderful displays of gardens with flowers!

Sherry in Winter Garden-

Our wishful thinking is captured now in memories with pictures!

Papa’s World – It is great to be alive!

Good day, friends!

In 2013, I had a major heart attack –

Called a “WIDOW MAKER”!

In fact, that day I should have died!

So, I can attest that every day since –

“IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE!

My wife, Sherry, has guided me all these past years.

She is a Certified Health Coach.

I have changed my diet –

Quit fast food –

I do not drink sodas or milk.

I have one cup of coffee each morning-

I drink mostly water.

I really do not like alcohol or wine.

On occasion,

I will have a beer or two, but no more than that.

I will have a Complete shake around ten or eleven.

And a snack then.

I will eat dinner around 4 or 5.

And sometimes a light snack around 7.

At 8pm. I will get ready to go to bed.

After four hours,

I woke up after midnight –

Bathroom break,

And then I post my blog to Facebook-

and go back to bed.

I wake up around 5 or 5:30 am.

Shower – shave – brush teeth and get dressed.

I keep a calendar and write down appointments –

Also, Sherry’s as I have become in retirement –

“DRIVING MISS SHERRY”!

We both attend to the flowers, bushes – Tower Garden.

And we like to golf.

Maybe every two or three weeks.

Sometimes it is that good shot that brings me back –

Here, I ended up on the fringe of the green.

For me, that is good! LOL!

Since we live close to two beaches –

We often drive over the causeways and park.

We walk down to the surf line –

Or just sit on a bench and look out over the ocean.

It is a great day to be alive!

Papa’s World – PICES RISING- Mount Dora, Fla.

This past Spring –

While we were in Florida and met up with the McBrides-

We took them to Mount Dora –

Where we had visited years ago.

We parked and walked up the hill to –

PISCES RISING – A restaurant overlooking the lake.

We had been here when we were caught in a sudden downpour!

We always thought that when the time came-

We would like to return and have lunch there!

The food was great and the view was excellent.

The setting is tropical, and we switched tables to have more shade.

The view was what we had remembered.

Soon –

We ordered drinks and lunch and settled in.

Once again,

We were with friends-

that we have traveled to the World with.

We spent the next four days exploring!

So many memories –

And sitting here at Pisces Rising-

Brought many of them back.

Sherry and Cindy –

We were neighbors in the mid-80s –

In Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

In the mid-90s –

They moved to Wilmington, N.C.

Then we would meet up and travel.

Now –

Four decades later –

We live about 36 miles from them –

And we still get together.

Later, we went golfing –

Just nine holes.

Papa’s World – every where I look – there is a story !

I look around – I take in – I SEE STORIES !

GOOD MORNING

Happy Saturday everyone !

I always notice things – small – medium or large !

ME !!!!

Even when I go to the fridge –

If my wife Sherry has gone to one of her meetings –

I say to her ” Don’t worry – I will find something to eat ” !

At MONK’S BBQ

Now it will no way compare to ” MONK’S BBQ ” that we stopped into –

Saturday on our way to Winchester to pick up Sarah and Ella.

This was in Purcelville Va. – just off route 7 –

Had heard nothing but good things about this place.

And when we stopped or tried to – the lot was full !

NO PLACE TO PARK !

YES WE CAN

So – I drove around –

just then she said to me someone is pulling out !

I swung back and right into a parking space by 6 motorcycles !

Glad we did – because this place has the BEST BBQ !

TIP FOR THE DAY !

Do not stand in line – ( more than 25 people)

Go directly to the bar – sit down – order a drink –

over 16 local crafted brews from NVA brewery’s –

And HUNDREDS of shelved bottles of the GOOD STUFF !

You do not have to drink at the bar

You can order ICE WATER – ( Sherry did )

ME – The lightest craft beer on tap – do not know what it was –

but it hit the spot and was not heavy but still craft beer !

NOW THE GOOD PART – You order right from there –

And by pass that long line and in FIVE MINUTES –

Your meal is sitting in front of you –

I had time to take two sips and just got my phone out and BINGO !

THERE IT WAS and it was good!

Tom & Sherry

If you look and see – listen and observe – you will find that story !

See this guy in the middle – there is a story there –

But that will be for another time –

TODAY – we happened upon a great BBQ place and found a secret –

How to not stand in line and get great service –

Yes – she – the bartender was that good –

AND – I over heard her talking to another customer.

She makes the service fast and great so she can get the customers

and of course the TIPS !

SMART GAL !

You just have to listen and recognize the thought process.

SHE FIGURED A WAY and it was a winner for all of us !

Papa’s World – HUMOR in the world of golf!

Good day, everyone!

Humor goes a long way in a round of golf!

Here – Sherry, Bob and Pam, and I-

enjoy nine holes of golf in Florida!

After all –

For me,

It is that ONE SHOT that brings me back time after time!

It is the most stressful game I have ever played!

But also the most enjoyable game I have ever played.

AND THIS IS ME IN THE ABOVE!

Playing golf with friends –

It is a fun-filled day –

Good shots and bad shots –

But I always have a fun time!

LOL – But is this a “GIMMIE PUTT” if it is for par or birdie?

Always a fun-filled day when these three get together to golf!

Or for drinks! LOL

LOL – how true this is!

Jimmy – my friend –

from back in Eldred, Pa.

Before golf –

We played softball together in the mid-70s!

All these years later –

Still close friends and now playing golf –

At least I try to! LOL!

In my world of golf –

So true –

But hitting that one shop or making that long putt-

So worth the frustration!

I hope I brought some HUMOR to your golf game today!

Papa’s World – Exploring Winter Gardens nature preserve.

Just outside Winter Garden, Fla., is-

LAKE APONKA –

A huge lake –

And its long coastline is a nature preserve!

Papa- Buck – Sherry and Cindy stand in front of the sign-

That tells the history of the region!

Standing by the rail –

You see all types of birds –

Turtles and baby Alligators!

The marsh weeds are full of unseen birds making calls –

That we did not recognise!

Baby Alligators were all over the place –

and in the weeds, hard to see.

When they do not move –

They blend in with the mud and weeds!

It seemed everywhere we looked –

We saw baby Alligators!

Many, many birds we could not see –

until they popped out of the marsh weeds!

Papa – thinking I would never want to be wading on the banks of this lake! LOL!

The expanse of the lake can be seen in the picture above –

It was worth visiting and free –

Parking was available,

And we even met a group-

Who were touring on Bicycles!

Papa’s World – LOOK ‘EM IN THE EYE !

When we are out walking – we meet lots of people –

on the trails – roads and sidewalks.

I always make eye contact – or try to.

A lot of people will just look down or off to the side –

That is until I am the first to greet them !

GOOD MORNING !!!!

I will say GOOD MORNING

as we almost always walk then-

90 % will then look at you and reply – smile –

as if they were just waiting for you to greet them – almost shy !

My daughter in law Trisha
and my youngest son Shawn
A SMILE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS !

It is almost like they do not know how to greet you !

And if you wait – they just walk on by !

That is why I decided to always be the first !

It is then that some people will not respond –

and I wonder what kind of person that is –

or what kind of life they lead –

I hope that they remember my smile and greeting –

hoping that just maybe it made their day

a little more enjoyable !

SMILE – think good thoughts

I think taking that extra step brings a happy thought to myself.

The Bear and the Fox. Existing to live – live to Exist.

340-Dcp_0456

In the early years of us being in Northern Va. , a couple of things happened. First , Tammy followed us down. Then a year later Mike and Debby and our new baby grand-daughter , Madison Margo Myers , known to us as Maddy , joined us.

I often thought if I were to open a bed and breakfast or a Cafe – I would give it the name of “THE BEAR AND THE FOX!” Why, I don’t know except that it sounded cool and I could envision a picture of a Bear and a Fox having dinner together at a table with some wine!

Now I see the picture of Maddy & her Father , our little Fox being carried by her father , The Bear of the woods, as he loves to hike the Northern woods of New York State. kinda out there in left field , but that is how I see it!

Teaching the ways of life to their children and bringing in the Health & Nutrition – showing how you EXIST TO LIVE  &  LIVE TO EXIST – always molding a way to blend their lives into harmony with nature.

The Bear and the Fox. A little girl and her father – hiking into their lives of Existing to live – Live to Exist.

Papa’s World – Just another day in my life.

COMING TO A END

Here it is almost 1/3 the way through November

The leaves are coming down –

it is chilly at night

and once again it is time to pull the flowers for storage.

I remember my youth –

Fall was hunting season –

I only ever shot one thing in my entire life.

A Rabbit – and it did not die right away –

instead dragged itself along the ground –

I stepped on its hind legs

and it screamed !

That was it for me –

no more hunting –

Sometimes you just
find a corner
and observe
what is happening
around you !

Fall also is the time you get ready to rake and rake

Bags of leaves to be picked up on Tuesday trash days.

That is the day they pick up yard waste.

I usually end up with at least twenty bags of leaves !

Fall’s in my youth –

riding my bike until early dark

sometimes neighbor hood KICK THE CAN !

The neighbor hood on North Main Street

was full of kids.

Games were every day or just hanging out.

The saw mill up the street with a huge pile of saw dust.

The apple trees and chucking apples at the train as it passed.

Sleeping out on the porch – going inside when it became too cold.

Walking down town to the Texaco to see who was hanging out !

Memories of the mind –

Sometimes you wonder

WHEN WILL I FORGET ?

PAPA’S WORLD

WHERE FRIENDS MEET FAMILY

Papa’s World – Walking Lake Sumpter Landing!

On a recent spring day –

We and friends – Pam and Bob –

Rented a golf cart for the day!

We were in THE VILLAGES and used it to travel to Brownwood and back –

To Lake Sumpter Landing!

We found a place to park on the main street-

And then started our walking tour.

The place where we rented the cart was just a couple of blocks away.

We had an app on the phone that gave directions to cart paths.

Sherry and I knew this area as we would spend winters –

With my brother Roger, who lived but a half mile away!

We would walk from his house and had a routine of where to walk every day!

We always would stop for coffee and iced tea!

Memories came flooding back.

We once met the mother and grandparents of Patrick Reed –

A professional PGA golfer in front of an Asian restaurant!

I once watched the Boston Red Sox team management on the town square.

We would sit and watch the line dancers and other folks at night –

When the live music would play across the town square.

On this day, right across from RED SAUCE ( my brother Rogers’ favorite hangout)-

And next to the radio station –

A man with two parrots sat and let people hold the birds!

A tip jar was there –

And they were quite colorful.

She once let a street vendor put a snake around her shoulders in Morocco!

She said she could feel the bird’s talons dig into her arm!

NOT ME – if it is going to happen –

It will happen to me –

Like a pigeon flying across the 100,000-seat stadium –

and it craps –

IT WOULD END UP ON ME! LOL

A wonderful golf cart-filled day was had by the four of us.

This was a BUCKET LIST event for me.

A way to bring back all those memories of days gone by.

Papa’s World – Touring Winter Garden, Fla.

At this restaurant,

we were able to build-

Our very own BISON BURGER!

Something of a first for me!

They hand this plastic menu for you-

You then write your name and proceed to circle everything you want.

Including how you want it cooked.

A unique idea,

and we had fun doing it!

Very tasty!

Cindy – Buck and Sherry.

We stayed in Winter Garden in the Spring at an AIRBNB –

Using it as a base to explore the area.

We have traveled the World with Cindy and Buck!

Walking the streets of Winter Garden –

Cindy goes to a store to see what is there.

Sherry was admiring the many flowers up and down the street!

It was a warm day in the sun –

Lots of activity up and down the street.

Winter Garden is a beautiful little city –

Flower beds all over

Bright colors – and lush greens in the old oak trees

and the palm trees!

We had a good time in the sunshine and warm air.

The girls are shopping-

Buck and I sit in the sun on a bench in Winter Garden.

Papa’s World – Touring The Villages by golf cart!

Here we are on the golf cart paths-

heading to Brownwood from Lake Sumpter Landing!

This is the view as we navigate a crossing section of a street –

and continue on the other side-

Much like regular street driving –

Right of way –

carts coming and going in both directions –

And stop signs at regular street crossings!

Passing pull-off areas for carts-

Much as you would see rest stops for cars!

Here you can observe golfers on the tee box –

I liked doing this –

when we would visit my brother during winter!

Bob driving and Papa in the front –

Pam and Sherry in the rear seat-

We rented the golf cart for the day in Sumpter Lake Landing –

And I guess it was over a dozen miles to Brownwood.

All seats faced forward,

which is what we wanted.

The cart paths follow the main road along side it!

Sherry – Pam and Bob in the cart we rented.

Here we arrive at Brownwood and park.

The farmers Market was happening.

Wallking around the Market in Brownwood.

Town square in Brownwood – The Villages!

The venue in Brownwood where music is heard and seen every night!

In the cart once again heading back to Sumpter Landing.

We spent I guess six hours touring on the paths and the two towns.

The four of us –

Bob – Papa – Pam and Sherry!

It was a great time –

Parking on the town street –

getting out and about!

Put this on your bucket list to see and do.

Touring SUMPTER LANDING and BROWNWOOD BY GOLF CART!

Papa’s World – Surprised – watching a marching band

It started out watching my grand daughter in her first cheer leading !

But – as I watched – I could not help but notice

The Marching Band – Drill Team and Color Guard –

It was very large considering it was a High School band.

I looked at my hand out of the team details

and found that the Marching Band had 243 members !

Now that I thought was what you would most likely see

at a College football game – not High School

Plus – all the equipment that was on the track later to be set up

I took pictures starting from the center
and then a left center
and a right center

A tractor was used to tow part of the equipment out –

There were platforms

one that had stairs and microphones set up at the top

a small platform was seen in this picture

And there were THREE DRUM MAJORS

each with a platform

two small ones right and left

and a high one in the center

where they directed the entire field!

Left Center –
One drum major to the left
and higher up
the Center Drum Major

The music flowed – the drum corp and horn section

all the while the drill team and color guard performed.

During the performance

each member set their hat on the field

all lined up in formation

off to the side

I found that to be quite effective

Right center
with the drum major
directing that side

I do not know the correct name for the instruments in front of the platform

But there were four of them

and microphones set up

and band members with horns and flutes

would climb the stairs and play from up high.

and each time – FIRST PLACE –

They were going to compete at JMU this weekend

competing against 50 bands from across the Country.

Papa’s World – In The Villages – The Eisenhower Center.

Bob and Pam – their first visit to the Eisenhower Center in the Villages.

They did not know this existed.

Sherry and I have seen this several times.

My brother Roger introduced us to it when we stayed with him in the winter.

It is quite the experience,

and a lot of the items are donated by the servicemen and women themselves.

Pam and Papa-

This is a walk-through history of President Eisenhower –

And WWII veterans.

I would put it on a bucket list if you visit the Villages.

Bob – Pam – Sherry and Papa.

We arrived here by golf cart, which we rented for the day.

Using an app on the phone –

We were able to navigate via cart paths between Lake Sumpter and Brownwood –

and back to Lake Sumpter again.

Take in the sights along the paths!

I think the clubhouse was called Sea Breeze,

But not sure.

It was a day on which we rode for six to seven hours on the cart paths in the golf cart.

If you visit the Villages –

I would suggest that you rent a cart –

It was not all that expensive,

and it comes with a full tank of gas.

You do not have to refill it.

Bob and Papa –

I was the navigator, and we did make a few errors! LOL!

Papa’s World – Visiting OIB in the Spring!

Sherry and I often drive over the causeway bridge –

To the island of OCEAN ISLE BEACH.

For us,

this is a ten-minute drive at the most!

We pick and choose where to park –

But this year,

paid parking-

goes into effect.

We bought a season parking pass at the pier.

That will limit in season –

where we park and walk on the beach.

In the off-season –

NO PROBLEM!

In this picture –

We choose to walk on the SW end of the beach-

The pier is NE of where we went on the beach.

It was a warm day in mid-March-

close to 70 plus degrees.

And in the sun with no wind –

Quite comfortable.

Even saw people in bathing suits lying in the sun!

The surf on the beach when the family was here!

Here we walk the beach at Sunset Beach – Bird Island in March.

We are so close to both beaches that we have a choice.

All part of why we moved to this area on the borders of N.C. and S.C.

Sherry is coming back up the walkway from the beach.

PAPA’S WORLD – OIB – N.C.

Papa’s World – A little golf with Bob and Pam!

Sherry – Papa – Pam and Bob!

We did manage while visiting them at a campground just outside the Villages-

To drive some minutes away and get in a round of golf!

This course is perhaps the most landscaped and beautiful course I have ever played on.

I forget the name – but they told us –

You just show up – no tee times.

And they start you when the tee opens up.

It is 18 holes – we only played the front nine.

Not long which suits my senior game just right.

Everywhere you look is fantastic landscaping.

Flowers – shrubs – huge rocks and mulch.

Fountains and lakes full of greenery.

And the rough is great!

The story I was told –

A landscaper decided to develop land he had –

And put in an 18-hole golf course –

No tee times –

Not too expensive –

And use his landscaping experience-

to turn it into –

A lush – shrub – flower-filled oasis

with tons of water and water features!

AND A ISLAND GREEN that I hit in the middle and it rolled off into a sand trap.

I was amazed after being told by Bob and Pam-

just how beautiful it was.

And we just showed up around 2pm.-

and checked in and got right on!

And it was affordable.

A nice pro shop and they served food!

A FAMILY RUN BUSINESS!

A rock formation and a waterfall!

Fairways and roughs looked professionally groomed!

The greens were awesome and fast!

Spanish moss hanging from the trees-

Small and large palm trees throughout the course

and this was just the front nine!

Pam is ready to tee off –

Note how well-groomed the other parts of the course are!

Sherry already hit and I am waiting!

Notice how groomed the tee box is!

All the shrubs that I saw were all trimmed throughout the course.

An extraordinary amount of labor to make it so perfect!

There did not seem to be any leaves – dead branches –

or clippings on the course anywhere.

This was by far the best-kept course I have ever played on!

I wish I could remember the name –

It is somewhere around the Villages and Summerfield.

Papa’s World – after breakfast – campfire with the family

GOOD MORNING

After spending the evening celebrating Debby’s birthday

in which Mother and daughters and two grand daughters

stayed up until 1:00 AM. conversing

We had a early morning breakfast and then to the firepit

in the back yard !

Sarah – our 13 year old grand daughter
had made the fire
and continued to clean up
around the area

All three oldest grand daughters are into camping – hiking

and out door activities-

taught to them by their parents Debby and Mike .

Sherry and Debby
with Bode and Ella

They live between Winchester Va. and Berkley Springs W.V.

at a guarded community called Lake Holiday.

This morning was a day in which there was a chill

in the air and sitting by the fire felt good.

But – alas – we had to leave early –

and only had a few hours to enjoy it !

Maddy and Bode
He loves the two oldest girls

He tells me that they are his favorites

because Sarah plays with Taylor and Cassidy

but sometimes he sneaks in to be with them !

Sherry – Sarah – Maddy – Debby – Ella with Bode
Bode adores Ella
tagging with her
where ever she goes
and she is so good with him !

Mike was busy off and on moving things with his tractor

Sarah has a ” TREE FORT ” complete with a mail box

they drop off mail to each other in the mail box !

The ” TREE FORT ” with the Mail box !

Their whole back yard was made into a obstacle course

when they both were doing the Spartan Races –

Mike hurt his knee so they had to quit

but all three girls use it to strengthen their selves

and also running !

The back yard also has this seating area with the firepit

iT is cozy and in the early mornings you can see deer –

foxes and other wildlife

A favorite place to just talk and relax.

Hammocks
in the trees
Sarah cleaning

Ella gave bode a old sweat shirt from her young soccer days

that she could no longer fit into

He put it on right away

He so likes his ” ELLA” !!!

THANK YOU !

Papa’s World – DISNEY SPRINGS with Bob and Pam.

Ppa – Bob – Sherry and Pam – at Disney Springs!

In March we spent a week in Florida and the last half with Bob and Pam.

Bob is my grade school and H.S. friend –

Pam is married to Bob –

And they have led the RV life for the last six years.

They spent the winter in a campground just outside the Villages-

And we decided to take in Disney Springs which they never had.

We explored and took in the attractions.

It was a past memory for us and a new adventure for them.

A lot of what you do here is free –

And just walking around taking in the sights!

We introduced them to the bus that run between resorts-

All free and you get to walk around the different resort areas.

We showed them the overhead tram system which is also free!

Entrance to the overhead tram system.

We had an excellent time here and showed them how to get around.

Papa’s World – A trip to Epcot!

For years and years –

Sherry has wanted to visit the flower show at Epcot!

In March – we joined our friends – The McBrides- who were already in Florida-

Helping their daughter at a vendor show in Winter Garden.

They asked if we wanted to join them after their daughter and grandkids left-

By extending the AIRBNB!

We said YES!

The plans were made –

We traveled South and joined them at the AIRBNB.

We were going to spend one full day in EPCOT!

Above – Sherry and Cindy!

It was everything she had hoped for plus more!

Sherry was so happy to have finally made it to the Flower Show at EPCOT!

We spent a solid eight hours here –

seeing as much as we could –

bright sunshine – warm weather –

Cindy and Sherry walk toward me.

Papa’s World – There is a place in Florida-NEON LEON’S!

Although this time around –

We did not get to visit –

While my brother Roger was alive-

We stopped in and just marveled at what we found inside!

“LYNARD SKYNARD”!

Just look at the picture in the middle at the top!

This place belongs to his family –

It could be a brother or nephew –

I really do not know-

But the whole inside is a tribute to that band –

Along with instruments – Clothing and a sure-fired “GUMBO” dish to eat!

Nothing fancy in here –

But if you want to see pictures –

And read the history and see the costumes and instruments-

Then this is the place to check it out.

It is by MONKEY ISLAND on the coast –

This just may be a “BUCKET LIST” type of place to check out!

A plane crash took them away –

But Florida is a place that brings them back!

MY WORLD NOW

Each morning I arise – believe it or not – I have NO IDEA what I will blog!

Inspiration just comes –

it might be something I experienced –

Something I saw

or maybe read while going through my emails and face book.

Good advice – being married for almost 37 years –

( yes – I know the date – time and place )

We are each others best friend –

but I always follow one rule –

” IT IS NOT FOR ME TO QUESTION WHY ? BUT FOR ME TO DO OR DIE ! “

WHEN YOU FIND THE ONE

WHEN YOU FIND THE ONE – KEEP ON TRYING – YOU FOUND A KEEPER

FAMILY – living life through them

Staying young and involved –

this only happens once – live it !

YES I DID

In my younger years –

before I met Sherry –

I was a little wild –

I rode for 6 years – had long hair –

( QUITE CURLY ) like CARROT TOP !

Couldn’t help it – just natural curly –

but I had a accident – and decided it was time to get off and move on.

Our little Taylor

I have found that my everyday life is most enjoyable

and rewarding when I mix in our young grand kids .

Watching them grow –

and each different –

Taylor loves horses and someday I see her competing!

The trail of life

We walk together – we talk –

as we walk – going along the path –

I am now in the – what shall I say –

Autumn of life –

but I LIVE each day

So – every day I wake up –

not knowing what it shall bring

Not knowing what my blog will be –

Today’s storm clouds

But I do know this –

no matter what STORM CLOUDS

are about in this country –

I shall live my life to the plus each and every day –

ALOHA

With my best friend – living life to the plus –

never knowing what I shall write –

Makes me do –

What comes natural – one day at a time!

Healthy Living – Healthy Life

In my daily life – after I had my by – pass – I choose to eat healthy –

at least the best I could ! For those of you out there – you know just how hard this can be ! It is not easy – too many temptations ! I am giving this to you from one who struggles each and every day to maintain .

I am very fortunate to have a wife who helps me and guides me and keeps me on course. She is a Certified Health Coach from Dr. Sears courses. One of my main go to’s is a Health Drink – which is a WHOLE FOOD !

That my friends is very hard to find ! Making Healthy Breakfast Drinks – with a blender – DIY – is awesome ! Mine consists of ICE – crushed – a little water from the fridge – one half banana – one cup of Soy or Almond milk – and the main source of nutrition – a package of either DUTCH CHOCOLATE + or FRENCH VANILLA + !

This is a drink in powder form from Juice Plus called COMPLETE ! Not only does it fill me up for breakfast ( lunch also ) – but it provides a Proprietary Protein blend 13 grams. WHOLE FOOD with only 140 calories without the banana or Soy or Almond milk !

With 11 grams of sugar – 20 grams of carbohydrates – Dietary Fibers at 8 grams – Soluble Fiber 6 grams and Insoluble Fibers at 2 grams – I found this the best way to go for myself !

Plus – I actually feel filled up ! I sometimes add fruit – and a dab of peanut butter – not often ! I make it what I want and the flavors – DUTCH CHOCOLATE is my favorite !

I will provide a website for you to look over – feel free – and yes it is my wife’s ! You see – without her guidance – after my WIDOW MAKER HEART ATTACK in 2013 – I most likely would not be writing this now. I know it because I survived to live it !

http://www.sf.juiceplus.com is her official site . It contains a bundle of information. Not only do I follow it – I LIVE IT ! There is more – much more to write about – I posted a blog on this site a few years ago on my survival – if you have health issues – please read it – if you want more info – just leave a comment and I will get back to you, God Bless and HGD !

Papa’s World – When family visits!

They came for a long weekend –

Debby and her two daughters – Sarah and Ella.

This was back for Spring Break –

Ella at college (she has graduated)

and Sarah from H.S. ( she has graduated)

They came,

and one of the things they wanted –

They wanted to visit Vareen Gardens –

Which has paths along the ICW-

Here they are hunting seashells to hang from trees-

Which thousands of people do “TO MAKE A WISH”!

Here, they pose in front of a tree –

We always have folks and family pose here!

Ella and Sarah are looking at the Marsh-

and the ICW –

from a swing in a small park at Vareen Gardens.

This is such a peaceful place to spend time just doing nothing!

But we were done here and ventured South to North Myrtle Beach.

At North Myrtle Beach –

We walked around so they could shop and look for bargains.

And had lunch at BOUYS!

Then we took them to “FAT HAROLDS”!

This is a dance club right in the middle of town.

THE SHAG started in NMB-

at clubs along the beach –

And this was the early 40s.

It became known nationwide as

“CAROLINA BEACH MUSIC”!

So for 80 plus years –

National competitions have been held in NMB –

and this club is the main one for “SHAGGERS” –

from all over the country.

They have events every three months,

and the whole town participates.

FAT HAROLD was a real person –

and passed away before the Pandemic.

The tradition continues,

and 80 years of history is contained inside.

The band ALABAMA even had a top hit –

“SHAGGIN’ ON THE BLVD” in the 90s.

When you walk through “THE JUKE BOX” front doors –

You walk back in time –

Everyone was very friendly –

And talked to the girls.

Sherry and I hung out here –

when we spent nine months at a condo-

In Ocean Keyes – a half-mile walk.

The history of “THE SHAG” is something I like to share –

with family and friends.

Thanks for reading,

and as always, HGD!

Papa’s World – Memories – pictures and good times.

Found this little gem on Facebook!

It is very informative,

and I wish I had seen it long ago.

If you do not play golf –

Most likely, you won’t be impressed.

But – being one who hits a good shot-

and then falls back into the abyss-

This shows me what I may be doing wrong!

Of course,

I printed it off and will use it the next time I golf!

MEMORIES – PICTURES and GOOD TIMES!

This is our friend Jim –

Whom we met as volunteers for the Protection for Sea Turtles –

On Ocean Isle Beach.

He lost his wife a few years ago –

And we get together every so often at Pelicans Perch-

A local bar and restaurant on OIB.

He also drinks Pabst Blue Ribbon –

as I did in WNY! LOL

This is his yard on OIB next to the canals.

A true friend and a good guy all around.

MEMORIES – PICTURES and GOOD TIMES!

A blanket and gift –

from our dear friends –

Claudia and Jim Martin.

They were our friends back in NVA-

They moved down near us a year ago –

after selling their home in Reston.

They had a new home built about four miles away –

And we get together –

Friendships are PRICELESS!

MEMORIES – PICTURES and GOOD TIMES!

The team from the Sea Turtle Protection –

We sat on this nest until it hatched,

and we made sure-

They all made it to the water.

This involves going to the nest by 7pm each night-

Until 11 pm. or later.

Most hatching occurs-

in that time frame.

On day 50 to 55 –

Those are the days after the nest is discovered by the group-

Who patrol the beach.

Then a team comes in and verifies –

and either moves it to protect from high tides –

Or leaves it where it is –

and erects the screens and fencing.

The nest is then given the number in which it was found.

Our job is to talk and interact with vacationers –

and people who live here.

We explain what we are doing –

and how we maintain the nests.

The nests are subject to be destroyed by people who

do not know or wild animals.

When they hatch –

We instruct people to stay behind the ropes and no lights-

As that distracts the little turtles and causes them to become blind.

Two days are spent after the nest hatches to see if any more are in there-

Then, an inventory is taken –

to see if it matches the number that made it to the water.

All eggs are counted,

and any that did not make it-

out of the nest.

This information is given to the governing body for wildlife

and is compiled yearly.

It shows the impact that we-

as volunteers make –

in protecting an endangered species.

This is done all up and down the East Coast.

We all then go onto other formed teams-

to the next available nest.

This continues to about mid-October –

And begins sometime in early July.

Most of the nests are laid early May to Mid June.

MEMORIES – PICTURES and GOOD TIMES!

Papa’s World – More pictures forms new memories.

She is gentle –

yet will bark if anything comes near the fenced-in yard!

She wiggles – and swamps us when we visit –

Licking our hands – and face.

She is a GoldenDoodle –

And she belongs to the Krohn family-

And our three youngest grandkids-

Cassidy-Taylor and Bode.

She will lay with her head in your lap and sleep.

And she is so warm and cuddly.

Her name is “MARLEY,” and she is considered our granddog!

She is so mild – the kids dress her up,

and she just lets them.

Taylor has trained her to do so many things.

Of the three,

Taylor is the one who controls her the best.

Taylor and Marley –

This is often how you find them –

She follows her all over.

When she hears firecrackers or gun shots –

She has panic attacks –

And it is Taylor –

who gets her to calm down.

Memories of family –

Memories of “MARLEY” –

Thanks for reading.

Papa’s World – Some special memories in pictures.

Ella and Sherry on one of our walks just outside Winchester, Va.

Ella is the second oldest granddaughter.

She has graduated from Randolf College with two degrees.

And with hopes of finding a job as a PHSED teacher in an elementary school system.

A special bond has always been present –

THIS IS A SPECIAL MEMORY IN PICTURES!

In the Alleghany Moutains in NWPA –

Just outside Mount Jewett –

Sits a wonder construction known as “THE KINZUA BRIDGE”!

Completed in the 1800s –

At the time, it was the highest railroad bridge in the country.

Some 310 feet to the valley floor.

If you look at the picture –

You see where it ends halfway across the valley.

You also can see the other half lying on the valley floor.

A tornado came through years ago –

causing the collapse of the KINZUA BRIDGE!

Today, it remains as it collapsed.

At the end of the standing section is a viewing platform

The remaining bridge has been reenforced-

On the viewing platform is a clear,

strong glass floor on which you can stand-

and look straight down 310 feet to the valley floor.

Today, it is one of the state parks with a museum and gift shop.

A great tourist stop and in fall –

The many colors of the leaves changing.

The Kinzua Bridge – Mount Jewett, Pa.

Sherry grew up in this area.

THIS IS A SPECIAL MEMORY IN PICTURES!

What we have been taking as a healthy nutrient supplement for the past twenty years!

Everyday – 30 natural nutrients from fruits – berries and vegetables –

And Omegas made from algae and not fish oil –

Fish eat algae to produce the omegas.

All of the above are produced on farms- and harvested and tested five times –

no pesticides or Mercury.

I have never missed a day,

even though I was in the hospital for surgery.

Getting the nutrients –

when I know I can not eat all that I need to.

Papa’s World – Special pictures in memories!

We are very fortunate to have this building and pool –

As our Community Center!

And – it is but a short walk from our home –

Also, you can not see –

Our mailboxes are to the right, with a lane for parking!

Inside is a large meeting area with TVs, chairs, couch, dining room table,

and chairs.

Enough room and seating to hold a large group of people.

A propane fireplace –

A screened in room with six tables – teak wood- chairs and seating for about 30 folks.

Also – a work out room with machines – weights –

And full, clear windows overlooking this parking lot!

We have two pickleball courts –

And a large step-down pool with the deep end about five feet.

The area around the pool is fenced in, and entrance is with a card-

Each person who resides in the home – ADULT- has a card to swipe.

This card can also be swiped to gain entrance to the building.

The pool area is surrounded by tables with umbrellas and chairs.

Our community center is a source of pride, and inside is also a free lending book library.

O have donated many books to it.

SPECIAL PICTURES IN MEMORIES!

A very young TAYLOR with her mother –

First, learning to ride horses.

Her mother had to stand with her so she would not fall off.

Today, her love for horses has led to her riding each week.

On days she can not ride, she works in the stables.

Cleaning stalls and grooming the horses.

It is how she wants to spend her spare time-

No matter how cold or rainy it is!

From that little girl who could barely sit astride a horse –

To a young lady adapt at riding –

Taking care of them –

Leading out to pasture and back before dark

Cleaning the stalls and grooming them.

Taylor – doing what she loves – creating a lifetime –

SPECIAL PICTURES IN MEMORIES!

After showering and dressing –

The first thing I do every morning –

Is that one cup of coffee enough to get my day started?

Later in the mornings –

I may have one cup of Tea.

But it is that lone cup of coffee in the morning-

that I look forward to each day.

A CUP OF JAVA GETS ME ON TRACK FOR A SENIOR DAY OF RETIREMENT!

Proud of this young man – my youngest son – SHAWN.

Owner of his own insulation and auditing business for the State of Pa.

For major energy companies that provide energy for heating for the elderly.

He has contracts with both the State and those Energy companies.

In addition to his own companies-

He is a world-ranked pool player.

Winning many tournaments in both singles and team competion.

Many – Many times he has won his way to Las Vegas –

to compete amongst the best players in the country.

SPECIAL PICTURES IN MEMORIES!

Here is my oldest son, Troy,

on the left and Shawn.

Troy can and has built houses from the ground up

He can do it all!

My own father was the same way!

So very proud of him-

In great demand back in NWPA.

Hoping they can come down once again for a visit.
