Papa’s World – Carolina life after NVA!

May 2020 – during the pandemic – before we sold our home and moved to the Carolinas!

Here we are in the new Wegmans parking lot –

This store we watched being built, which was very close to where we lived in Fairfax, VA.

I would walk to a bench across the street and sit and watch the construction!

NVA was a very busy life.

The beltway around D.C.

We ended up moving a little bit further out behind the DULLES AIRPORT!

Our new neighborhood in Brambleton, Va. with 15 miles of walking trails.

Here we are walking around a small man-made lake.

We were just behind the DULLES AIRPORT, and planes were always flying in and out!

For 14 1/2 years, we watched this complete town being built-

From one elementary and one High School –

To multiple elementary and middle schools to FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS!

A quiet countryside farm area has become a completely new small city.

We watched it being built.

Friends for decades and decades!

In July, 2021, we moved into Cameron Woods Community, Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina!

Here is my view watching the houses being completed as construction moved down the street from our new home!

Our newly constructed home –

This would be our last move unless it is to assisted living.

We are in the Carolinas after living in Pa., NYS, and Va.

CAROLINA BLUE – endless skies, just a few miles to the ocean and beaches.

This is the life we always wanted.

It took a PANDEMIC to get us here.

We lost money in our 401K but gained in the housing market and sold.

CAROLINA BEACH LIFE!

Papa’s World – We built on Ridgetop Commons!

We were going to sell our Fountainside Lane Town house – which we first bought in 1999 –

and build a new townhouse in a new development called Ridgemont Commons!

This was a 2400 SF. – three-story brick townhouse –

and we were to pick the upgrades we wanted.

It was to have a two-car garage and a deck off the second floor with a fenced-in courtyard below it!

This would be the first of three homes we built – and three floors – I would never do that again.

Three floors are a lot of stairs to navigate – but it also was our first and only all-brick home!

This was a brand new neighborhood in the forest behind our first townhouse.

We used to ride the trails through the woods on our bikes!

It was a beautiful home and off the garage – under the staircase was a hidden storage space.

I hired a contractor to cut a hole and install a door so we could access it!

It was about 15 feet long and made a hard right to end up behind the fireplace on the first floor –

We stored a lot down there.

I knew it was there from visiting the construction site –

throughout the process.

This home had three bedrooms – two and one-half baths –

Very large gothic windows on the second floor –

Cherry wood cabinets and granite tops.

We also were within walking distance of a brand new WEGMANS –

and a newly built town center called Fairfax Corners.

We really liked this neighborhood as we could walk to stores – theaters – and places to eat.

But – it was city life – traffic was busy – George Mason University was a couple miles away –

The NRA building was also –

It was just too busy!

We lived here almost four years – we had experienced the DC SNIPER and 9-11 terror here.

It was time to look elsewhere – and there was a brand new development in the countryside-

called “BRAMBLETON, VA.”

They were building an entire small city there –

Once again we put the house up for sale – and put in an offer on what we thought –

“OUR FOREVER HOME TO BE BUILT IN BRAMBLETON, VA.”

Papas World – RESPECT – the store – your peers – family

The other day we were out on a mission

To meet a lady who had masks made in Vietnam

and were high quality.

We ordered 10 of them – at less than the going price.


And they fit much better than what we had.

But we had some time – so into Wegmans we went.

And there was not one person in that store that did not have a mask on!

There were a lot of people in there.

No one complaining – shouting – just people going about shopping!

This will rub people – it will cause some of you to be disgusted

You will say your RIGHTS are being infringed upon.

But – I will say – it comes down to RESPECT!

Wearing a mask will not keep you from getting Covid19

But if you sneeze or cough

and you do not know you are affected

It will help protect those you might have coughed or sneeze on!

So much in social media – so much hatred

RESPECT for that store

RESPECT for you peers

RESPECT for your family

The path may never be the same again

The journey will be different

But – our lives still live on

and RESPECT is much needed.

We will get better at RESPECT

or it will end up being worse than Covid19.
