Papa’s World – Being a senior – love of life!

In our senior years –

I believe family-

Becomes more and more important.

Now the grandkids are either out of college or in college.

Those are the older ones!

The younger ones are in H.S., and one is in middle school-

Or soon to be!

We also moved to a warmer climate.

At our age,

We no longer want to deal with ice, snow, and extreme cold!

So we plan trips back to see them –

And also for them to visit.

They are all in the busy portion of their own lives.

We give – we volunteer-

And help when we can.

Senior years –

Life goes by quickly.

Before you know –

You are on the edge of caregiver –

To be a receiver of care.

Climbing that step ladder –

Becomes dangerous –

Bending over to weed becomes a chore!

Driving becomes-

Becoming more aware of where you are and who is around.

Happiness is when you can give-

And not expect a return!

Celebrations are when you stay awake at an outing –

Beyond eight PM!

But you also appreciate the little things of life –

LOVE OF LIFE follows you into the senior years!

We seem to look –

And see what we can do to help!

One day it will be reversed.

But until that happens-

LOVE OF LIFE will be our focus.

Living life to the plus one day at a time!

Our supplement for twenty years,

And what we believe in!

We can make our world better –

By making the world a better place.

SENIOR YEARS – we are long into them.

BUT WE HAVE A LOVE OF LIFE!

SENIORS – THE GOOD WITCH AND JUST TOM!

Papa’s World – Good Thoughts – Some Humor!

The day began when I took on the job of coloring the grout lines in the shower!

Both on the walls and the floor – think two-by-four-inch floor tile –

and twelve by twelve wall tile!

This required hands and knees bent low over the floor adding the grout coloring!

the walls were easier as I could stand or sit on a stool!

It took me two and one-half hours and I had to finish up the next day!

The above picture relates to what followed later that day!

In the afternoon – 2:30pm. to 4:00 pm. –

We volunteered to go to OUR COASTAL LIVING HOME –

For senior residents.

We volunteer here at least once a month.

Sherry helps with the resident’s monthly shopping –

A room is set up with donated items –

clothes – jewelry – knick-knacks –

displayed on racks and tables.

They use money credits they earn throughout the month and can shop for items.

They come in in wheelchairs – walkers and some are still able to walk.

Most are in their late 70’s to mid 90’s!

While she does this I attend the library –

organizing the books ( keeping them mostly on the top shelf so it is easier for them to see)

Separating the puzzles into the number of pieces.

But this day – we were there to help out for a Veterans Day ice cream social celebration!

Twenty residents showed up –

Many can not leave their rooms-

but they came in being pushed in wheelchairs –

Walkers or canes.

Two men were there and a celebration and a certificate read on their service as VETS!

I scooped ice cream while Sherry and one other volunteer put toppings on as asked and delivered to their seat at the tables.

Then – moved around to different tables to talk to them.

That was the best part as then they had other people to talk to!

While we volunteer our services –

We know that down the road –

someday this may be us sitting in a wheelchair –

We try as hard as we can to age healthy!

One woman was two years younger than either one of us.

This helps us think young –

keeping us active and still helping others as much as we can.

Hiking with oldest daughter – on the trail with Debby!

The grand daughters were in school – Maddy had to go to work –

So Sherry and I went with Debby to run some errands

and then to go on a hike!

A new trail had opened over Thanksgiving –

in Winchester Va. !

Debby Sherry Papa

Sherry and I did 2.20 miles with Debby –

and then she ran back the way we had just walked

we continued on and met here in the parking lot!

She runs every day!

She does start her day off with one cup of black coffee!

Debby is a QNMD with the Juice Plus Company

following in her mother’s footsteps

health and nutrition are a big part of her families lives!

The trail has many features such as this sundial which is not finished yet!
There are many sculptures along the way.

The trail itself is made of crushed limestone and very easy to walk on.

There are gradual hills and trees – shrubs – and open fields.

Many nature groups who are volunteers –

clear out under brush and fallen trees!

winding trail so as not to walk straight up the hill!
Sundial not completed yet!

We are going to bring the rest of the family back for a hike!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World
