Papa’s World – Boardwalk – Myrtle Beach – S.C.

We decided to take a little side trip on our way to Costco!

Since neither one of ever remembered going to the Boardwalk

on the Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach –

We thought we would take our time

and follow the beach road from North Myrtle Beach

all the way down to the Boardwalk!

It had been almost 25 years since we vacationed in North Myrtle Beach

and – we were not disappointed!

We parked half way in between the two piers.

And then we walked toward the Northern Pier!

We entered the doors and went out to the open pier

where the fishermen were and the other tourist.

We had walked by numerous shops – places to eat –

a large volleyball complex with multiple courts

and a sand volleyball game going on –

two on two!

The boardwalk continued beyond that pier

but – we decided to return from our starting point

and then walk South to the other pier

about a mile distance between the two.

The southern pier in the distance

The walk back to where we parked the car

was on the boardwalk

but it changed to a paved walk – wide – and lined on both sides

with bushes – plam trees and shade and flowers.

It was not straight but wound from side to side

with benches in the shade.

Places to see and observe the beach
The beach of white soft sand

We decided once we got to the second pier

we would look for a place to grab a late lunch

before we continued on our way to Costco.

We found that place by the pier itself –

actually looked like it was part of the pier

called “WICKED TUNA”

where we made our way to the top and had a great view of the pier

and the beach in both directions!

We had a great lunch sharing some appetizers.

We continued onto Costco – and vowed that when we have to make that trip again – we would include the Boardwalk and this place to sit and have lunch!

Imagine – meeting old friends – memories – laughter and good times! review blessings

There are times in you r life this happens – but there are times in your life that this is a cherished memory!

We are blessed – we have a lot of friends – some older than the others –

And when you managed to meet up –

That makes a memory that you look back on and smile!

PAPA & SHERRY

During our trip to Florida last Feb. we made a date to meet up with a couple of the oldest friends I have.

Freddie and Lynda and I go back to the ’70’s –

Fred and I graduated together so I guess that puts us back to the ’60’s!

Freddie Sherry Lynda

When I introduced Sherry to them – they hit it off and you can tell

they still do!

Fred was one of my three best friends in H.S.

CAN YOU IMAGINE – all these years and still laughing

even if years go by and not seeing each other!

Music is top of the list with these friends – singing – tipping a few drinks – and shots! LOL

We have a core group of friends – those that we try to get together with several times a year.

We all lived near each other before we all moved South.

Except Mike and Carol who still live in the old hood!

Cindy – Buck – Dottie – Mike – Sherry – Carol – Jim

Mike and Carol bought a house on the lake Chatauqua in Western New York

and invited us all for a long weekend.

They have extended the invitation once again for next Summer!

Boating – boating and more boating in their beautiful new boat

that fits all of us plus room to spare!

Cindy PAPA Sherry

Old friends – new memories – fun – laugh – CAN YOU IMAGINE!

Sherry PAPA Pam ( PJ) Bob

Bob is one of my three best friends from H.S. – he stayed at my house and me at his.

He ate dinner with us and I ate dinner with him.

We played sports together – and then – lost contact as he moved to N.H.

Later in life he remarried and we connected once more.

Now Sherry and Pam talk on the phone and we make plans of meeting up!

Which before we came South- we met up in Berkley Springs.

Pam had a misstep and injured her achilles

causing her to have surgery

So as right now – we do not know when we shall once again see them.

But friendships exist through time and miles – memories created –

CAN YOU IMAGINE!

Papa Sherry Elaine Steve

We played volleyball in a league with them during the mid ’80’s!

We golfed with them all the time!

We watched their children grow up and they ours!

We went on vacations to North Myrtle Beach together!

And they are alwys in our minds – planning to get together.

They were the first to come to D.C. to explore!

CAN YOU IMAGINE!

These are our oldest friends – we have made new friends – life is memories made and memories to be made!

Papa’s World – when we were young – co-ed volleyball!

Sherry and I were married 6-25-82 –

both 33 years old – second marriage for both of us.

I had two sons and she had two daughters.

By that time – I had played basketball for a radio station

and was currently playing softball on two teams.

We decided – I would end the softball

and we would do something together.

There was a volleyball league in our community

It had SIXTEEN TEAMS!

And it was COED!

Now – this was suppose to be REC volleyball

but it wasn’t !

It was highly competitive

and if you were not on your guard

you could end up with a broken nose from a spiked ball.

There was a opening for a team

and we were put into contact with

Steve and Elaine – and the start of decades old friendship began.

They had been regular players in several leagues

and agreed to join us and Steve and Chris.

Teachers at the H.S.

Then we were contacted by Deb and Tim –

Husband and wife

who also wanted to play – and their old team disbanded.

Along came Mike – who also was looking for a team.

And that is how “THE BEACH CLUB” co-ed volleyball team formed!

Everyone but us were former players for years

and we fit right in.

Tom Sherry Steve S. Elaine S. Deb M. Steve H. Chris H. Mike C. missing Tim M.

We played as a team for several years – and were competitive from the start.

The league had ex college players –

and players who traveled on weekends to tournaments all over Pa. & NYS.

It was a very good league – and if you did not pay attention

you could end up getting hurt.

We finished 3rd. in the upper bracket a couple times

Out of 16 teams.

and won the lower bracket!

Not bad for 40 year old players!

When we were young – we palyed volleyball

and today – time hop brings up our team picture

I wish I had more pictures to share from that time

somewhere there are pictures of Sherry & I

playing volleyball for the American Olean Tile Co.

in the Corporate cup.

But that is another story for a different time.

Now – we golf –

Papa’s World – Cross Junction Lake Holiday – Va.

There is a place in the quiet countryside of Va.

A place on route 522 –

South of Berkley Springs –

North of Winchester Va.

Lake Holiday –

GOOD MORNING

Our daughter and family have called this home for thirteen years !

We actually had a house built there

but sold it –

as it would of been too far to drive !

Lake Holiday and dam

The lake itself is not huge – around 227 acres –

But it does have three beaches –

with WHITE SAND !

Most boats you see are Pontoon boats –

But power boats are also there.

Power boat towing

There is a very large clubhouse and also a Marina –

Where there is a waiting list for slips.

Beach Two

There are several sand volleyball courts on the two main beaches –

The third beach is somewhat secluded

and used mostly to set off fireworks – fishing –

or a destination spot for boats to anchor and swimming.

Beach one

Beach one is the main expanse of beach –

All events are held there and at the clubhouse-

which has a huge outside deck wrapping around it.

It covers underneath it for events in case of rain

and the boat marina is right there also.

Beach one looking toward the dam

There are hundreds of houses situated all around the lake

And at one time had a 18 hole golf course

where a host of homes still exist on the open fairways.

Almost all the streets are named in connection with the course.

Beach two

Beach Two contains camp grounds – play ground – volleyball court.

And is much more quiet and a place to dock up to three boats

On a floating dock system.

Swimming area
beach two

A no wake zone for all the beaches and coves exists

And the entire lake is protected by a security force.

There is a guard shack with gate lifts that you must stop and be checked out

You have to provide ID and must be called in by a owner

in order to be admitted

The entire area is monitored 24 / 7 365 days a year.

Beach tow with floating boat slip and dock

All in all – it is a very nice quiet community –

when lakefront homes do come up for sale

They generally go very fast.

There still are homes being built although most are off the lake.

Beach three side is mostly undeveloped –

Mainly because no infrastructure exits on that side of the lake.

Although you can purchase lots –

people then build decks – docks and use it to dock their boats.

Fall along the lake

This is a four season area in the Shenandoah Mountains

Although most Winters it does not freeze entirely.

This is a little bit about a quiet place

A place we have been visiting for thirteen years

Where our three oldest grand daughters live
