Papa’s World – Union Station-Peaceful protests – White House

We ended our day in Congress – where we had to be searched –

pockets emptied – no phone for pictures

The whole Congress was rude.

We settled in for about 45 minutes – and there was to be a vote –

But – NO ONE on the floor paid any attention –

they were divided on the right side and the left side –

The entire congress did nothing but talk –

So loud we – in the balcony – could not hear what they were saying

on the loud speakers!

The Capital
where nothing gets done
and no one listens

I was disgusted at the whole thing and how they all acted.

All we could do was watch the electronic board to see the total of the votes.

We toured Union Station and had lunch – then boarded the Metro there

and got off at the Smithstonian in the Mall.

We left the Mall behind and walked to the front of the White House

We had covered a lot that day

and decided to see the front and the back

But on our way we came across a very peaceful protest

in front of the EPA building

They were not yelling – they were respectful when we talked to them

Protesters
outside the EPA
Headquarters

Now – I can not understand why anyone would be against clean air

Withe clean air comes better gas mileage

The back of the White House
More peaceful protest
This one has been there
for the entire time we have
been in NVA

The one who was here first passed away several years ago

they have kept it here as each election

brings new Government

as a way to keep the power in the people

and a eye on what is going on.

Both Democrats and Republicans have seen this protest.

Our own Peaceful
non violent protest

We had walked almost all DC with Jo and Paul

We covered everything plus on their list !

Papa’s World – Walking among the Ghosts – Korea

Long known as THE FORGOTTEN WAR –

The Korean conflict war memorial

is to me – “WALKING AMONG THE GHOSTS ” of war.

GOOD MORNING

My brother in law Bill was in this war –

and not once did he ever talk to me about it !

The closest we came was him giving me his sleeping bag –

as a teenager who used it to sleep out on –

North Western chilly nights

in a little town of Eldred Pa.

Seeing the GHOSTS for the first time

The sight is becoming – the soldiers – silently walking –

through the shrubs – gray – white –

the effect is startling.

Paul Jo

One can almost feel the tension in the air –

the expected clash about to happen –

I often wonder what it would be like to be there –

not in Korea – but here –

on a dark silent night –

with mist swirling in from the Potomac !

Sherry – walking among the Ghosts
on the Korean War Memorial

That is the sense this brings to me –

in a War mostly forgotten

yet the vast numbers of loss and maimed

remain with us to this day.

The message is here
long ago
but forever written
not to be FORGOTTEN

MEMORIAL

Papa’s World – All gave some – Some gave ALL – THE WALL

Today – a emotional journey into the past –

THE VIETNAM MEMORIAL –

GOOD MORNING

Leaving the Lincoln Memorial and walking across the street –

past the little building selling items

in tribute to the WAR no one wanted !

Jo and Paul

The walk was quiet – people gathering – people taking pictures –

Sherry Jo Paul

We all had classmates on THE WALL –

a very divisive time in our young lives –

our middle to late teens –

being told that we would be OVER THERE in High School!

People gathered at THE WALL

My coach saying to us –

” YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE GOING ” !!!

Living that for five years –

But for the grace of God – go I !

Jo Paul Sherry
capturing the name of a class mate

In my Senior year – I had a car accident –

I spent 51 days in the hospital –

not knowing if I would ever walk again

“BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD – GO I ”

Jo Paul Sherry

We all had some one to find – to honor – say a prayer –

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

REFLECTIONS OF YOURSELF

Jo Sherry Paul

When you gaze – when you search –

and then you see yourselves

gazing back – looking into your soul

And you know – for what reason –

They gave it up – and you shall never forget.

Papa’s World where friends meet family

Papa’s World – 1999 – we first saw it – 2019 – the last one “ROLLING THUNDER”

MIA – POW – AMERICAN FLAG

Memorial Day weekend – 1999 –

e had just agreed to a transfer to work in NVA –

the Three of us – Sherry – myself and our youngest daughter Tammy –

Had just come up on the street in D.C. at Foggy Bottom –

George Washington University –

we were going to tour Washington – when we heard the ROAR !

MOTOR CYCLES – a lot of motor cycles – what was going on ?

Thousands of Motorcycles

There were bikes everywhere – parked – every place you could fit one –

and flags – black leather – tattoo’s – noise – vendors –

As we walked down hill and closer to Constitution Avenue – the crowds were huge !

Our grand daughters – Ella and Maddy

2019 – Memorial Day weekend – 20 years to the day later –

we retraced those steps –

this time with our two oldest grand daughters – Ella & Maddy Myers.

Just across the 14 th. street bridge the Pentagon parking lot.

They had come to stay with us for a couple days –

these two laugh and giggle all the time –

but across the bridge – from the Pentagon – came the noise

The ROAR – thousands and thousands of bikes – riders – flags on the rear –

And lining the street – sometimes 10 deep –

the whole of Constitution Avenue – Tens of thousands of people !

We met up with family

We met up with part of our family who had come from afar – Pa. & N.C.-Va.

To see what is to be the LAST RIDE of

” ROLLING THUNDER ” !

It has gotten too costly – and I guess some ill will from the Pentagon –

Too bad as they are riding for our VETS – POW’S and MIA’S !

Ella- Sherry – Maddy and me

What we first saw 20 years ago – we were able to share with these two.

A beautiful day to walk around –

see DC as you never see it with Bikes everywhere !

And to share this with family !

Nathan – Mr. “B” – Lindsey from Pa.

Kristy & Casey from N.C.
Mia & Olivia from NC

We spent the day watching the ” ROAR” which went from Noon –

and was still going at 4:00 PM.

Cousins – with the Balsis and Jones family

Kyle and Bethany from Manassas Va. – their five children and a guest .

Casey and Tom- PICK A PAIR ! LOL
The RIDE
They parked everywhere they could find a space
Ella – Maddy and Sherry
Our oldest grand daughter Maddy – a American Elm tree planted in 1850
The Capital from the Mall

My happy place when we visit and walk DC – THE MALL !

It says it all

20 years we have been doing this –

bringing family – friends and sometimes just ourselves –

riding in on the Metro or driving in –

Wishing everyone a great Memorial day –

” ALL GAVE SOME – SOME GAVE ALL “

WHY WE ARE FREE

The “ROARING THUNDER ” was established for the VETS of the Vietnam War.

Today – it is a symbol for ALL VETS –

let us not forget those Vets –

And each day forward –

let us remember the NAM vets in a war no one wanted –

but they served –

They were not welcomed home –

politics has a way of doing that –

” ROLLING THUNDER ” was for them –

and my memories go back to that day in 1999 –

I am forever grateful for them –

for by the grace of God – it could of been me.

Sherry & Tom

I hope you enjoyed our little trip down memory lane –

many times we have stood right here.

Thank you –
