Papa’s World – A place in the sun!

What is called “THE GROIN” on the East side of Ocean Isle Beach.

This multi-million dollar project was completed a few years ago.

Large granite boulders were placed 900 feet straight out into the ocean-

With a 90-degree turn –

This section of the “L” shape is short-

Then the dredging of the Shalotte channel began –

And the sand was blown onto the beach West of the GROIN!

This was about a mile and hundreds of feet wide!

The beach erosion in the past wiped out the ends of First and Second streets!

This design is designed to prevent that erosion from happening.

The project succeeded –

However, going East beyond the bouldered wall-

The erosion has devastated that area of the beach.

Huge sandbags and sand have been carried in.

That whole end is most likely to collapse –

Placing multi-million-dollar homes in extreme danger.

It is a mess, and lawsuits have been filed.

NOTE: Those homes were built there after the “GROIN” was put in place!

MOTHER NATURE: It is sad to see this happening – time will tell!

A PLACE IN THE SUN!

My sons and their families-

A visit a couple of years ago-

Here we were hiking a trail near Cherry Point.

Showing them a PLACE IN THE SUN far from the cold weather back in NWPA!

It can be nice there for a few months-

But the cold is the reason Sherry and I went to the South-

On the border of N.C. and S.C.

A PLACE IN THE SUN!

For healthy living!

SUNSET from our patio in the back yard.

Winter here is sunny, with blue skies and white clouds –

Most Winter days.

Here you see a late fall day-

Or an early winter day.

Almost zero snow and ice.

I bundle up – scarf and winter jacket-

Sometimes ear muffs-

But after walking a distance in the sun-

Slowly, I lose the scarf and earmuffs!

I do not like the cold-

I am comfortable at 74 degrees inside and 77 outside!

A PLACE IN THE SUN!

We chose our place in the sun –

Ocean Isle Beach!

Here you see the mainland and then the Causeway Bridge.

The town of OIB is after crossing the bridge.

We live back in the forest,

A couple of miles before crossing the bridge in the forest!

A little over ten minutes and we are here.

Sunset Beach is a couple of miles away, and we have access to that area also.

All shopping – gas – parks – box stores,

And multiple golf courses are within fifteen minutes of our house!

Wilmington is 45 minutes, and NMB is less than thirty minutes.

Papa’s World – Being warm in the Sunbelt!

Even though the skies are gray –

storms are brewing –

windy – IT IS WARM!

I had open heart surgery ten-plus years ago –

And ever since then –

the cold has bothered me.

At night – I use an extra blanket –

When we walk in the Winter months –

I am bundled up with my jacket – scarf and gloves –

Even though everyone else isn’t.

So – I no longer want ice –

snow or cold

I will take warm – warm and warmer!

Visit NVA where we lived for over twenty years!

Yes – it was hot and muggy there –

but back on the East coast of N.C and S.C. –

with the breeze from the ocean –

IT WAS GREAT for me!

OIB from the Causeway Bridge over the ICW!

I lived for fifty-plus years in NWPA and WNY-

in the snow belts.

I shoveled my share of snow –

slipped and drove on ice –

Huddled up inside during a freezing Day-

on the end of bitter cold.

Worked outside –

navigated snow drifts –

I HAD ENOUGH OF THAT!

I do not own a snow shovel,

which is fine with me! LOL

In Fall and Winter and early Spring –

I am fine with some extra clothing –

that comes off when I get warmed up!

LIVING IN THE SUNBELT – my way of life now!

I am blessed to have been able to do this –

and my wife to share it with.

Thanks for reading PAPA’S WORLD –
