Papa’s World – Falling off a step ladder!

Alas, in my senior years, I have learned a hard lesson in life-

STAY OFF OF LADDERS – ALL TYPES!

It was November 1st. 2025 –

The eve of turning the clocks back!

I had spent the afternoon visiting with our friend Jim –

Who lives on OIB!

It was a good conversation for a couple of hours.

Sherry did not go because her back was giving her problems from overdoing it!

In the living room, above the TV, and a large stand by the wall –

It was a very large clock-

And heavy.

My thought exactly at the start of the day!

I said to Sherry-

I will get the step ladder, and you stand by it, and I will climb up –

And take that clock down!

She said good –

She wanted to clean it!

It is a big clock – black and shiny with Roman Numerals on the face.

I climbed up and could reach it to lift off the nail.

I handed it down to her and then step by step-

Climbed back down.

This was working out –

We replaced the battery and cleaned it up

We reset it for the FALLING BACK TIME ADJUSTMENT!

Time to climb back up and have Sherry hand it to,

The clock is so large that it is hard to see behind it to find the nail head.

MISTAKE – I STEPPED OFF THE LADDER ONTO THE SURFACE OF THE STAND WITH THE TV!!!!

That I should never have done.

I was holding onto it and lifting it up to the wall –

And then I felt my balance going – BACKWARDS!

Sherry tried to steady me, but thank God she got out of the way.

The ladder was in front of this stand, and I was standing on the flat surface!

THAT WAS A MAJOR ERROR!

I came down hard –

I hit my back on a soft, large hassock in front of the couch.

It all happened so fast.

I was stunned –

My back, where I hit the hassock, hurts.

I rolled over – The clock had flown out of my hands and hit the floor.

I got to my knees and then with my hands –

Up to my feet.

What the heck –

My heels on both feet started to hurt.

I have no idea why –

I do not remember hitting the floor with them.

I have learned a lesson –

I went to bed –

And had to use my tiptoes to walk.

Slowly, it is getting better as I write this.

I am lucky –

It could have been much worse.

Lesson learned –

There are younger people to hire to do such jobs!
