Papa’s World – Sunrises and Tower Garden!

With every sunrise since last August – our Tower Garden has been out in the patio just chugging along!

We set it up then and started our seeds from scratch right in the rock wool and placed them in the pods.

And it has been producing PRODUCE ever since regularly!

GOOD MORNING SUNRISE FROM CAMERON WOODS COMMUNITY, OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C.

Now in that timeframe, we have had HEAT – SUNSHINE, STORMS, HIGH WINDS, SNOW, and ICE!

We have covered it up with a metallic mesh to protect it from freezing

and the temps have gotten down into the mid to high teens!

One time overnight we had 1/4 inch of ICE all over everything!

And – it has survived ALL OF THAT!

The Tower Garden on our patio – protected on two sides from wind and in sun 80 % of the daylight.

Our sunny days in the summer can be HOT in the sun.

We ran the timer for the pump – 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during that HOT TIME!

This was an early morning picture – around 8 am.

Fresh lettuce and spinach for all winter for dinner and shakes. ( spinach)

We rotated the plants and replanted them when the need arises.

In the early fall, we had tomatoes and cucumbers, and celery along with herbs and lettuce.

We are going to plant more variety this time – in fact as I write this –

We pulled all the plants out – took the Tower Garden apart – cleaned it up –

replanted those plants we pulled out and started new seeds including cukes-

and tomatoes and some others.

It took all of maybe an hour and a half to do that – cleaning – and putting new water and tonic in.

And that night we cut off some lettuce for dinner!

Papa’s World – Friends – last day – golf at The Valley – East port – dinner – SNOOKY’S – ocean

Sherry and Pam – about to start our golf adventure – Pam could not golf – still recovering from a achilles surgery

On their last full day – Bob wanted to play golf – we last played together I would guess 1965 or 1966!

A very long time ago – and he had their clubs in the RV but had not used them all winter.

Pam – who was still recovering from surgery on her heel – would do the driving and Bob rode with me.

Bob and I went to school together from grade one to grade twelve.

They have wintered the last two seasons in their RV – this time it was in Florida.

They made it a point to stop here on their way to family in Nashville before heading home in N.H.

Waiting to tee off – we like this course which sits right on Rte. 17 in Little River – S.C. It is a short course but fun to play. Sherry and I have golfed here alone and with friends.
Now – she hits it on the fairway most times – and every once in a while – will hit it just right and bingo – it goes a long ways – here is a 298 yard hole for her – and this is her drive!

When you play a scramble and her and Cindy hit from the women’s tees – it is good to have them both on your team!

After a good day of golf – we scrambled to a 44 on both nines – we took them to Cherry Grove to one of our favorite places to eat – “SNOOKY’S” on the Beach.

This has become our go to place to take visitors – food is good – and you sit ocean front just yards off the sand.

We have many – many memories of growing up together in a small town in NWPA – called Eldred.

Many adventures of sleeping out under the stars – roaming the streets after curfew at 10:00 PM.

Nothing bad – raid a garden or two – sneak some beer – campfire – canoe trips down the river –

playing sports together – proms – dances – joining the exployer’s together-

driving – family – both his and mine.

Papa’s World – Hiking through Vareen Memorial Gardens with family!

We had a fine day to be out and about – so we decided to show them some nature

As they are all about the outdoors!

We went back to Vareen Memorial Gardens –

just before you cross the state line into N.C. in Little River S.C.

Ella Sarah Sherry Sarah is growing up so fast – at 14 she is catching up to both Sherry and Ella!

Across the marsh and over the tidal canals –

at low tide – does not look so scary when empty!

Sarah and Ella who is almost 5′ 9″ tall!

We entered the trees and brush along a sand pathway – trail.

We had been here a couple times before

bringing family to explore and see the ICW and the beauty of a pristine nature walk.

The girls loved this as did Debby who is all about the outdoors and hiking!

We soon entered the trees and bush growth

it was shaded in here and I think would be welcomed in the S.C. heat of Summer!

We choose the shorter route – we had some more places to show them!

The last couple days we traveled to the home

of Mike & Debby and the three grand daughters.

We are leaving and taking Sarah and Ella with us

to the beach in Sand bridge – near Va. Beach.

We walked our three miles up what they call THE DAMM HILL!

And it was hot and humid – but we also walked across the dam

at Lake Holiday in Cross Junction Va.

The walk is full of up and down hills

but all on the road surface!

This is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Va.

West of Winchester.

Behind us in this picture is the last big hill –

the one they call THE DAMM HILL and it is steep.

The family practices health and nutrition

Debby is a Qualified National Marketing Director

Mike is a Phys Ed teacher

Sarah Maddy Ella

We are taking the two youngest – Maddy has to work

and in two weeks will be moving into her new dorm room

She achieved a 3.85 GPA in her first year as a Freshman

She was named to the conference ALL AMERICAN ACADEMIC

while playing soccer –

and as part of that – will move into the brand new suite dorms for atheletes

at University Of Lynchburg – in Va.

Sarah and her love bird FENNY – who likes to bite me!

But she carries him-her around like this all the time.

He will even sleep like that as she holds him-her.

We bird sat – while they went away for a week –

and he will say PRETTY BIRD

after you uncover his cage in the mornings!

This home is full of HEALTH – NUTRITION –

and our three oldest grand daughters –

Maddy – Ella and Sarah!

Until recently – Maddy was the tallest – at 5’6!

Now Ella stands 5 ‘ 8 1/2 and Sarah is going to catch her!

Sarah at 13 – is 5′ 6!

Sherry – my wife and their grandmother – is 5′ 9!

The Swedish DNA is coming out and up!

These two are very close –

BUT – Maddy eats almost no meat!

Where Ella does.

All three have been on Juice Plus for almost 14 years

and Sarah is a Juice Plus baby!

Their parents Mike and Debby –

practice whole food eating – no dairy or gluten

and always reading labels –

all must be organic and no harmful additives.

Every year for the past 18 to 20 years

they have taken a vacation to Raquet Lake in upstate New York!

Where there is no wify or internet

unless you can search and find it!

Being unconnected as they call it.

Back to nature – canoeing – hiking the mountains.

And the girls love it!

We have been spending time with them since we sold our house.

Maddy will return for her Sophomore year

at the University of Lynchburg – playing soccer!

She was named as a Freshman

To the All – American Academic awards

with a 3.85 GPA!

And as a Freshman played in every game!

Ella is on the Blue Ridge United Travel Soccer team

and also the Varsity team at James Woods H.S. in Winchester Va.

Sarah is our dancer and a film & producer of small videos.

She wants to go to NYC!

And Sherry is going to take her!

We are blessed to be able to stay here

and interact with them all.

Soon – in the next day –

We are taking – Ella and Sarah with us –

To the beach in Sandbridge Va.

Maddy wants to stay and work –

as she will be leaving for college in early August!
