Papa’s World – Giggles – laughter – good thoughts.

Some humor during the pandemic.

This was when we moved to NMB-

It was a ghost town-

Before that, for months, we wore masks.

We walked in public each day with hardly anyone around.

It was a time we shall always remember.

To make the most of it –

We walked alone but still enjoyed the new surroundings!

SOME HUMOR FOR A TIME OF OUR LIVES THAT WILL ALWAYS BE MEMORIES!

AAAAHHHHH – The life of a senior on retirement.

All those years of being somewhere for work-

I do not miss it!

I miss the people and have cherished memories of working –

For the same company for 47 1/2 years!

GOOD THOUGHTS FOR TODAY!

LOL- Being careful goes along with the GROANING!

But seeing Sunrises and Sunsets each day-

Being together and married for 43-plus years.

THANKFUL for the time we have together and the times we have spent in the past.

GOOD THOUGHTS FOR TODAY!

LOL!

Golf is always entertaining!

SOME GIGGLES FOR TODAY!

So many past memories of growing up in the 50s and 60s!

Peace – love – long hair – motorcycle –

Past memories and good thoughts of those days gone by!

The day Sherry, Cindy, and I played a golf scramble.

Two bogies and two birdies and the rest pars!

Gave us even par for nine holes.

Not bad for old senior players –

GOOD THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

Sherry was a runner.

Here is the day she ran a 5K.

First place in her age group – 60 to 64!

To me – a GREAT THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

On the beach dune for our 2024 75th. birthday celebration with family.

Now, into our senior retirement years.

Where – they still live in the area where they grew up!

Several times they have made the long trip down to see us!

Papa’s World – Moments from the past!

Several years ago –

We had a friend’s long weekend at Cindy and Buck’s.

We had rented a pontoon boat on OIB for the day.

Six of us had been neighbors on Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, NY.

That would be Carol and Mike, Cindy and Buck, and Sherry and me.

Jim and Dottie lived a few miles away across the border in PA.

I knew them even before Sherry and I married.

We have all stayed in touch over the decades.

Here we are on the ICW with the boat-

Producing A MOMENT FROM THE PAST!

Marcus and Tammy –

The twins Taylor and Cassidy –

And the only boy grandchild – Bode.

Here we are behind Oyster Rock in Calabash waterfront-

On one of their visits to come down and see us!

Producing another MOMENT FROM THE PAST!

LOL- A little humor for the day!

At a hotel in Tampa for a Juice Plus Conference.

Relaxing during a team meeting.

In twenty-plus years, we have been attending-

A conference is held every six months –

On a different coast –

She and her two daughters started over twenty years ago-

TEAM GENERATIONS-

MOTHER-DAUGHTERS and GRANDKIDS and beyond to healthy lifestyles.

HEALTH AND NUTRITION –

Creating a MOMENT FROM THE PAST!

As a Senior –

I know how this is!

A look back at the early history of the town – ELDRED, PA. –

That I grew up in.

At the top center-right and a little beyond –

My family home in later years after this picture was taken.

The tall brick building with the four windows across the middle left side of the picture-

That’s where I lived after graduating from high school.

Today, that building still exists and is a Library!

I am guessing this picture is from the late 1800s!

Many memories of growing up here!

A MOMENT FROM THE PAST!

AGING HEALTHY IN OUR SENIOR YEARS!

Papa’s World – Memories fondly remembered!

Life has very quickly put us into our Senior years!

But – also given us many fond memories.

My blogs are to record those memories for future generations.

Please enjoy as much as we did in making them!

April and Brian –

Before we transferred from DAl-TILE ( former AOTC) in Olean, NY. –

We worked with Brian for a few years as he transferred from Lansdale.

We became friends and met his wife, April.

Now, they too are close to retirement –

And contacted us as they were staying near Barefoot Landing in SC.

We arranged to meet up and had dinner together, and showed them around.

The past meets the present –

AND CREATES MANY FOND MEMORIES!

LOL – my little humor for the day! But it might just be true!!!!

This is the WWII museum from my hometown of Eldred, PA.

Many blue tours stop and pass through the front doors.

For such a small town –

This museum offers a fantastic look back at WWII.

If ever you happen to be in this town –

Take time and see this marvel!

ANOTHER FOND MEMORY!

Maddy, while playing Travel Soccer in HS.

On her own, she traveled 65 miles each way to play soccer for Loudoun County.

More competition, and for two years, she prevailed.

Getting an offer to play soccer for the University of Lynchburg.

She played all four years –

Starting as a Sophomore – named third team all conference-

In her Junior year, she was named second team all-conference-

And in her senior year named team captain.

Two out of the four years she played –

They made it to the NCAA tournament.

One year, they won the conference championship.

THIS IS ONE OF THE FOND MEMORIES WE HAVE!

On our wedding day –

6-25-1982.

Combining two families –

Her two daughters and my two sons.

A start of decades of being together –

And now in OIB-

Living our dream of sun-sand, and ocean,

And golf!

THE START OF MANY YEARS OF FOND MEMORIES!

Now, my days are over from playing “PICKLEBALL”!

I have fallen three times –

The last was backwards, hitting my head! OUCH!

I wish I still played, but my instinct to get everything causes me to overextend!

But, I still have a picture from the past in my memories!

Papa’s World – Time in pictures!

Just outside of Mount Jewett, PA. –

Where Sherry grew up –

Is the Kinzua State Park Bridge!

Built in the 1800s –
It was at the time the highest railroad bridge in the country.

Stretching a mile across the Kinzua valley ( This was home to the Seneca Indian Tribe)

And over three hundred feet high-

It was a major route for coal from Erie to Pittsburgh.

Many times during her youth, she walked across this trestle.

Her father rode a snowmobile across it.

Then, it was only used as a tourist train that would bring folks across it.

I remember while on the golf course in Kane-

A train would come past with smoke bellowing from the smokestack and a whistle blowing!

Then, many years ago –

A tornado tore up the valley and took half the structure down.

Today, it has been refurbished on the half that still stands.

It sits today as a state park.

You can walk all the way out to the end,

And a structural glass floor allows you to gaze over 300 feet straight down!

I am the only member of our family who does not venture out there! LOL

In this picture are our friends,

The McBrides,

Who also grew up in the area just across the NYS border!

This is at the top of the structure but below the entranceway.

You can see straight through the bridge to the end where the viewing platform is!

Thus producing for the four of us –

TIME IN PICTURE!

A little smile for the day!

We lived in NVA – about twenty miles from Washington, DC.

Every year, we would take the Metro into the city –

During the ROLLING THUNDER –

To see the endless Sea of motorcycles.

This picture is but one of the many fields of parked bikes.

For almost seven years from 1974 until 1981-

I rode a motorcycle.

I never was in DC, but many times I rode to Wheeling, W.V.

I was a fan of the Grand Old Opera there!

I had an accident –

A new driver –

Just got her license –

I was behind her at a red light.

Up in Amherst, N.Y., on my way to Cedar Point in Ohio.

The light went green, and she started out as I did-

But she stalled the VW and never stepped on the brake.

The only thing I could do was lay the bike on its side.

I ended up almost under her bumper-

But that made me feel that it was only a matter of time-

So I sold it and never rode again.

You always had to watch the other person.

We loved going to see the motorcycles in D.C.

Thus, this creates –

TIME IN PICTURE!

The Jefferson Memorial is on the basin in D.C.

This is looking across to the memorial from the Martin Luther King Memorial.

At the time, it was being repaired.

Many times, we would just take the Metro or drive in.

D.C. is the only city where I do not feel closed in.

It has restrictions on how tall buildings can be.

It is also spread out with huge open spaces.

My favorite city to visit –

And walk around.

This is another TIME IN PICTURE!

On one of many paths we had to walk in Brambleton, VA.

We miss those walks!

Papa’s World – Memories in pictures!

My GOOD THOUGHT for the day!

A small reunion of sorts-

We all lived on Pleasant Acres or near it back in Portville, NY.

Today, we all live in NC.

Tim – Deanne – Sherry – Julie – on the right – Buck- Cindy and Papa.

We all moved – only Sherry and I went to NVA in 1999.

The rest went to NC.

Today we live the farthest away – about 38 miles.

The others live near or in Magnolia Greens.

Julie and Cindy are sisters.

Tim and Deanne’s daughter graduated with our oldest daughter.

We all get together a couple of times a year for dinner and rekindle our lives together.

Thus creating a MEMORY IN PICTURES!

My youngest son, Shawn –

Who last spring traveled to Las Vegas –

Competed in 8-ball and 9-ball!

He finished 65th in the world and 9th in the world in the above.

On the team, they fished first in the world out of 400 teams.

At the other team event, they finished first!

Very proud of this man and my son!

Thus creating another MEMORY IN PICTURES!

One of the twins –

Taylor, who has been riding horses since she was four years old!

Here she gallops the horse she is riding through a routine!

She spends all her spare time with horses-

Grooming – caring for them.

Working in the barn –

Cleaning – and just being around them!

Creating another MEMORY IN PICTURE!

With my buddy from grade school-

Bob and his wife Pam, and Sherry.

At Disney’s Main Street.

We try to get together a few times a year.

Today, as when I wrote this blog-

They have leased a house in our area for a year.

To see if they like it here!

I see more good times ahead!

Thus creating more MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

On the beach –

We sold our home in 2020 –

During the Pandemic.

For three and a half months-

We stayed with our daughters and their families.

Splitting time between Lake Holiday and Leesburg, VA.

Then we packed up – we had a storage unit –

That remained as we loaded up the car and headed South-

To friends who lived just outside Leland, N.C.

Here we spent some time – golfing and being together.

On October 1st. 2020 –

We moved into an Ocean Keyes condo on North Myrtle Beach!

View from the lanai at the condo on the fourth floor.

After six weeks of searching for a resale home –

We gave up because whatever we bought in our price range-

It would need to be remodeled to our taste.

At this point in time, by accident, we saw a billboard-

Advertising Cameron Woods Community on the mainland side of OIB!

This was in NC near –

About seven miles to the border of SC.

We visited the model and decided this is what we wanted and would be less expensive-

Then, buying a resale –

And it would be brand new.

Plus, for that price, we could pick all the upgrades!

The first picture is the house that we built near the end of construction.

Today, we have this view of sunrise from the front lawn.

These are more GREAT PICTURES OF MEMORIES!

We visit Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach –

We walk around getting our steps in!

One of our favorite places to sit, watch, and have a light lunch-

Is CROOKED HAMMOCK!

We actually watched them build this place during our Pandemic stay at Ocean Keyes!

MORE GREAT PICTURES OF MEMORIES!

Our granddaughter Sarah –

When she was a senior in High School –

Designed this mural as part of the 75th. anniversary celebration-

Of James Wood H.S.

Here she is pointing up at the mural, which was painted at two different locations.

The school on the left is the original from 1950!

And today it is used as a middle school.

The middle and right drawings are the 2025 H.S.

Today she is a student in college-

Her second drawing was chosen to be the cover of the graduation commencement.

The left side is 1950, with students whom she knows inserted in the picture.

The same theme as the mural.

And her car and her father’s car are in the picture.

Papa’s World – Pictures of great memories.

A memory of when we lived in Brambleton, VA.

This is in a tunnel we used to go under a major highway on one of our walks.

The whole tunnel had these chalk drawings from an unknown artist.

I have often wondered if they are still there!

PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

Interesting in two ways.

The first is that this is the school I attended until the fifth grade!

The first four years of my grade school were spent here.

Then, three school districts combined –

A new elementary school opened, and additions to the high school in Duke Center were completed.

This building was then abandoned and eventually torn down. The second reason is that I spent my entire work life in American Olean Tile – Dal Tile!

Forty-seven and a half years.

We made ceramic tile like this in one of our other factories.

Which leads me to wonder who made this and what connection they had to Eldred, Pa.?

PICTURES OF GREAT MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – The many folks of the past- Eldred!

Good day – this blog is my memories-

Growing up in Eldred. Pa.

As a young lad,

I had roller skates before I had a bike!

It was a chore to skate the sidewalk down to Slavins’ auto store and furniture store.

The sidewalks were uneven!

That was as far as I was allowed to go!

Today, this building is the WWII museum.

And to the right and behind it –

Slavin’s auto garage and furniture store.

Back in my youth, this was Frisbee’s insurance building –

And Penn Electric is in the back.

They parked their trucks –

In the lot in the rear.

Today, all that has changed- the two buildings are now connected-

And are in the museum!

I could not skate to the insurance office.

And almost directly across from the insurance office-

Was the Eldred Fire Hall!

I was not allowed to cross Main Street and skate on that side either!

But growing up in such a small town – 800 to 1000 residents-

I knew many of the men and women,

And they knew my parents.

I knew most of these men growing up –

On the far right, bottom row-

Was my buddy Bob – his father Lyle!

This was “SCOTTY’S” softball team.

“SCOTTY’S” was one of the bars in town and a hangout for the men of Eldred, along with Slavin’s!

The Gold Eagle is another one.

I grew up knowing Lyle because of Bob,

And he, in turn, knew my parents.

We would eat and sleep at each other’s houses!

In my Junior year, we started riding to school with Lyle-

And take the bus back home, six or eight miles away.

My father -“FITZ”- second from left –

The tall man in the middle- Don – who was related to Bob-

Had the insurance office and building.

Eddie – second from the right – is to Lyle’s right in the softball picture.

So you can see how small the town was and all the connections.

Here is a picture of the ELDRED HIGH SCHOOL basketball team –

Before the merger with OTTO Township to form OTTO-ELDRED.

Which comprised ELDRED- DUKE CENTER and RIXFORD.

My older brother Roger is second from the right!

He graduated from EHS in 1957.

I knew more than half of these older boys while I was growing up-

And the coach, Joe,

He was my Little League coach and teacher at the school.

Many would be at our house!

Today – my buddy BOB – his wife Pam –

Our neighbor Diane and Sherry, and I.

We still get together after all these years!

Bob and my varsity high school football team when we were juniors!

I am second row, third from right –

Number 65 and Bobby are to my right –

I believe number 83.

He started at end-wide receiver and safety on defense.

I started at left guard and linebacker on defense.

The JV and Freshman are not in this picture.

Memories in pictures of long ago in little ELDRED, Pa.-

And OTTO-ELDRED HIGH SCHOOL!

Papa- Pam – Bob and Sherry.

Sherry – her daughters Tammy and Debby.

Next is Bethany ( missing her sister Chrisy and her mother Debbie – Sherry’s sister)-

Then Natalia and her mother,

Bonnie – Sherry’s sister.

Missing from Bonnie’s sons,

Ethan and Nigel!

The event was the senior graduation –

o

Of Debby’s daughter, Sarah.

at her home in Lake Holiday, VA.

Growing up, all the cousins and sisters –

Were at family gatherings!

Now, they are far apart-

From Tenn., Pa., Va., and N.C.

A little more than half the cousins were here.

They all grew up attending family functions.

Family from Sherry’s side is very important.

I have very few left from my side –

And my sons live back where they grew up in NWPA!

A niece and great-nieces

And great-great-nieces and nephews.

A little more than half were here to celebrate Sarah’s graduation.

Sarah is sixth from the right in the long light color dress!

Papa’s World -MORMOR- Good times in Pictures!

MORMOR – MothersMother – Swedish – passed on from Sherry’s Swedish side of the family!

Her grandmother was born in Sweden.

Mount Jewett, Pa.

A Swedish-built community from the 1800s.

In the rolling hills of NWPA.

This was once home to the Seneca Indians of the Allegheny River basin.

Stretching from NWPA to WNY!

The younger grandkids call her MORMOR –

To separate her from the other Grandmothers.

The above picture is a letter written by a very young Cassidy –

Daughter of Tammy,

One of the twins.

Simple but effective in its message to Sherry!

Cassidy is the one grandchild who will message Sherry all the time.

She will be the one to stand inside the garage to wave goodbye.

She loves her MORMOR!

She will text –

Send messages and share her life with her.

These are the times as they grow up that are priceless to a grandparent.

Papa – Taylor –

Sherry – and next to her is Cassidy, then her mother Tammy!

MORMOR and her daughter and granddaughters!

Living in the OIB area –

In fall, winter, and spring –

I am often asked how the weather is and if it is cold.

Now, I do not like the cold.

I want no part of snow or ice!

And I lived in the snow belt of WNY for 50 years!

So, in this area, by dressing warm on a 50-degree day –

I SURVIVE!

I walk the beach as long as the wind is not strong-

The sand hitting your face is not pleasant.

As you see in this picture –

While it may be warm to other people-

I still dress warmly!

We chose this area because we still get four seasons-

Four seasons that can be warm.

This gives me LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

I hope this blog provides you with the above!

Papa sharing a moment with Ella-

Who I called tiny while she was growing up!

Today, she is as tall as I am!

She has graduated from college and is a certified PHYSED teacher-

For small children!

Kids love her!

When she was small –

She would crawl over to my leg-

Tug on my pants, and I would pick her up and hold her.

Today, she tugs at my heart –

How I’m so proud of her.

This gives me LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

When friends gather for a meal!

Bob, Pam, Sherry, and Diane.

Soon they will be here for a one-year lease.
Bob and Pam are testing out the area to see if they like it.

They have been in an RV for over six years.

This will give me more LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

THIS IS TRUE!

When friends gather on a beach to talk and have a good time!

This provides more LIVING LIFE WITH MEMORIES!

Becomes a LIFETIME IN PICTURES!

Good day, everyone – welcome to my blog!

Dottie is one of our oldest friends.

I attended their wedding.

Here – Sherry and Dottie – are at a lunch watching the Buffalo Bills play.

Papa’s World – Goal – to write positive blogs!

The view from the lanai on the fourth floor –

From the condo we rented in Ocean Keyes-

North Myrtle Beach-

For nine months, while our new home was built –

In Cameron Woods Community!

It was only by chance that we found this!

I had been searching once we decided to sell our forever home!

It was during the Pandemic –

And our 401K took a major hit!

While all of a sudden –

The value of our home started to climb!

A POSITIVE MADE OUT OF A NEGATIVE!

We made our choice to build near this beach –

OCEAN ISLE BEACH-

In North Carolina –

On the mainland near the ICW!

Also – just a couple more miles is SUNSET BEACH-

With a similar causeway bridge-

Over the ICW!

ANOTHER POSITIVE IN OUR RETIREMENT LIFE!

We wanted to be near golf courses –

And these views are from Sea Trails –

The ending holes on the Jones course and the Byrd course!

We are in the middle of some 30 golf courses here in North Carolina-

Some eight miles to the border of South Carolina!

A BIG POSITIVE FOR US!

This view is what sold Sherry and me on renting this condo.

We did it for a couple of months at a time-

We were building a new home.

We had three bedrooms, a kitchen, and two bathrooms.

A living room and a dining area.

The lanai extended across the entire condo, facing the lake with fountains.

There are over 750 condos here –

Six swimming pools –

A basketball and tennis court.

Six fountains were going down the lake-

And a half-mile walk to the beach entrance.

Most of that was inside the security of Ocean Keyes.

Then, we could walk along North Myrtle Beach Main Street.

This was during the full-blown Pandemic.

We were almost the only people out and about while walking!

This became a negative, but turned into a positive for us!

Debby, her daughter,

and two of her three daughters visit and walk in the surf.

The WHY we decided to build near here.

When family visits –

They have access to two beaches.

A BIG POSITIVE FOR THEN AND US!

Today, while we no longer have that fantastic view of the lake and fountains of Ocean Keyes-

We have this from our front porch in the shade all day long!

This is Cameron Woods Community.

Ocean Isle Beach –

A ten-minute drive

and you are standing on the beach.

We have turned ONE POSITIVE into ANOTHER POSITIVE for us and our family and friends!

Papa’s World – Pictures of memories.

Taylor, Cassidy, and their mother Tammy.

The two girls are twins, fraternal.

It was not planned, but the doctor told the parents –

IT WAS TIME – Taylor was taking most of the nourishment-

And at 32 weeks –

The doctor said it could not go full term.

The procedure was performed, and we had two tiny babies.

Both under two pounds.

And now all three share the same birthday!

September 3rd.

Unique – and today Taylor is 5’9″ and Cassidy is 5’6″!

The Swedish genes from their MORMOR –

Sherry – Tammy’s mother – runs deep!

Sherry – MORMOR (Swedish for mother’s mother)-

And this is what the twins call her!

It has now been many years since their birth and growing up!

Their family includes a brother, Bode, and the dog, Marley.

And Father Marcus.

This has given this blog –

Bode and Cassidy –

He is the first grandson,

and Cassidy is a twin of Taylor.

Not identical but fraternal.

But now, all these years later –

Bode and Cassidy are so alike.

Here are the three of them –

Taylor is very tall –

Almost 5’9″ –

Cassidy is 5’6″.

I think Bode will be very tall –

But he and Cassidy act so much alike,

And it is hard to tell who is speaking –

When you can not see them.

But Taylor and Bode played together in the pool for hours.

He seems to get along better with her.

Cassidy does her own thing –

But – she is very protective of him.

All three sing in the choir.

Taylor and Cassidy did plays –

But now Cassidy has chosen Cheerleading and Gymnastics.

Taylor chooses the plays and horseback riding.

Bode – I think will do plays, but –

Also plays flag football, Soccer, and Golf.

It is a busy household,

Running the three of them to whatever they are doing!

When they were little –

Taylor, Bode, and Cassidy.

In The Villages in Florida!

Here stands my older brother Roger-

Waiting to TEE OFF!

Before he passed away –

We would drive down for years and spend about six weeks with him.

At one point, he asked if we would move down and stay with him.

Sadly, we could not.

But the time we spent with him in those years was PRICELESS!

RIP, my brother –

Gone but not forgotten.

MEMORIES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

We have known one another for decades.

Friends, we often get together.

We were neighbors, and some of us grew up in the same town.

Friendships through the years –

MEMORIES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

This is a picture of the causeway bridge over the ICW to Ocean Isle Beach.

In ten minutes from our house –

We can cross this bridge to the island.

Straight ahead is the pier.

On the left, before you get to the circle, is the OIB Park-

From May to the end of September-

Open-air concerts are held for free!

This beach is also where we volunteer for the Protection of Sea Turtles.

This starts in May and ends in October.

Many a day we are there walking –

Or sitting and watching the nest until they hatch.

We make sure they get to the water and into the ocean.

This is one of two beaches near where we live.

The other is SUNSET BEACH!

We visit that one often.

Welcome to our area where we live!

Humor – smiles and laughs.

There is a place on OIB –

A church and behind this church on the marsh –

Sits a gazebo.

A lot of folks go to see the sunset on Sunset Beach.

We have also done that.

But – here you can park-

Walk down to the gazebo-

And capture the marsh, the water, and the sunset!

MEMORIES!

My youngest son and I.

He lives in NWPA and is 16 hours away.

But twice, he and his wife have been down to visit.

Creating more memories of family!

Back when we lived in Brambleton, Northern VA,

The twins lived a mile from us.

Oftentimes, they would come to visit.

Here they sit on the floor by the front door.

Waiting for the arrival of their cousins.

A moment in time captured in a picture for a memory of a lifetime.

Papa’s World – Good thoughts – the COLORS of flowers! DEER!

In our daily lives –

FLOWERS bring joy with our own eyesight!
Sherry and I – try as we might – display flowers.

These are not ours –

But in our new home near OIB-

It is a constant struggle with DEER!

Wherever we visit –

We both take many pictures of flower gardens.

The problem with DEER –

Is in our complete neighborhood!

They even come onto porches and eat the flowers!

So when we see flower arrangements in gardens –

There is a sort of envy because we just can not do that!

I have tried all sorts of sprays –

Different flowers that they won’t eat ( they still do)!

I once posted this problem on my social media page-

They gave me some ideas and said if that doesn’t work, then –

“EAT THEM”!!!! LOL

No – I will not hurt them –

So we do not plant –

As we normally would!

However,

I capture the places we have been –

Such as here at Epcot –

Wonderful displays of gardens with flowers!

Our wishful thinking is captured now in memories with pictures!

Papa’s World – A visit to family – Lake Holiday.

Sarah, Debby, Maddy, and Ella,

the daughter and granddaughter,

are at home in Lake Holiday.

When we travel back to NVA –

One daughter and family live just outside of Leesburg, Va.

Here they are further North beyond Winchester, Va.

They do not live on the lake –

But a short drive to one of the three beaches.

They do have a boat –

and rent dock space for it.

Here is the fire pit in the backyard.

They love the outdoors –

every summer –

spend time at Raquet Lake –

in the far north of NYS!

Hiking – swimming – boating –

camping – an outdoor family.

Their yard reflects all of the above.

When he was young –

Bode – the only boy grandson –

adored Ella –

She was his idol and she took care of him whenever we were all together.

All during her soccer playing days –

Whenever he was at the games –

you could hear him shouting her name.

She went on to play at Randolf College –

and started as a Freshman-

Becoming team captain in her Sophomore season.

She even played against her sister Maddy –

who started

and was team captain –

For the University of Lynchburg.

Maddy and Kendrick came for a visit in Feb.

Kendrick has been in training

for his new job in Ga.

And will be assigned when he is done.

Maddy came down from Lake Holiday after her workday was done.

We had asked her what she wanted to do the most before she left.

She replied –

“Let’s go to the walking path where we hung seashells from the trees”!

She remembered that from when we took her there on one of her visits.

VAREEN GARDENS sits just across the border from N.C. into S.C.

The many walkways over the marsh to get to the ICW.

Kendrick and Maddy –

Stopping to see the marsh while walking toward the ICW!

Maddy and Kendrick –

Posing in front of this tree that we have captured to grandkids in other photos!

Sherry joined them –

It was in the mid 60’s –

partial sunshine and a little wind.

The ICW as the clouds begin to cover the sun.

The casino boat passes on its way out to the ocean –

Here on the ICW!

Maddy got her wish of showing Kendrick the ICW –

The seashells –

and making a wish and hanging them from a tree!

This is our home in Brambleton, Va.

We had experienced a bad storm with wind.

It took the roofing shingles off in several places and the adjuster gave the go-ahead for a new roof.

Here – you see a crane lifting a pallet full of roofing shingles up

onto the back roof.

At that time we were watching Bode as he was not in preschool yet.

He spent the entire day outside across the street watching the crew do the roof.

He has always been fascinated by big machines and cranes.

Here you see them way up onto the roof

in the front and the back.

We lived here for 14 1/2 years.

We had this home built –

and it was going to be our retirement home but things changed.

We sold it and came South to OIB.

Papa’s World – Past memories in pictures.

Several years ago – we along with our friends –

Buck and Cindy McBride-

Did a tour of the New England States.

We flew into Boston and toured Mass. – New Hampshire and Maine.

While in Boston we took a bus tour –

And ended up in the “CHEERS” bar.

Then – we went to Portsmouth, New Hampshire-

And visited “STRAWBERRY BANKE”-

And ended up in Salem.

Our tour also went to Bangor, which is far north of Maine.

We drove up Cadillac Mountain –

And we stayed almost a week at OLD ORCHARD BEACH in a condo.

PAST MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Mount Nebo Lutheran Church – just outside of Mount Jewett, Pa.

This is the church of Sherry’s ancestors –

Built by Swedes in the 1800s.

Almost all of her family ancestors are buried here.

We have a lot here also –

But have decided it to be too far to go.

So – we have a vault at our new church –

St. Luke Lutheran Chruch –

Just five miles plus from our home.

The Columbarium where we will be interred – after cremation –

Sits in a setting behind St. Luke’s.

Our names are already on the plaque there.

PAST MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

LOL, some smiles for today!

We dressed up for Halloween a long time ago.

What was I thinking! LOL

Some more smiles!

The day Sherry retired there was a celebration with the folks she worked with.

She retired early to get out of the rat race and driving –

In the Washington area and the Beltway.

Stress – crazy drivers-

It was time after 32 years.

Her territory was NVA – District of Columbia and Northern W.V.

A celebration by her peers after a very successful career.

PAST MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

We both are now retired

and living near the coast in N.C. – OIB.

Papa’s World – Memories in pictures.

Less than five miles from our home in Cameron Woods Community –

Is COASTAL POINT –

A seniors home that has memory care and assisted living quarters.

We volunteer each month –

Sherry – pictured above –

along with other volunteers –

set up and operate a “STORE” for residents to shop!

Almost all of the items are donated –

anything from jewelry to games to clothes.

The residents earn vouchers during the month and use the vouchers to buy items.

This gives them a sense of still being able to live a normal life.

They come in wheelchairs – canes – walkers or walking.

The items are surprisingly nice!

They have an hour and a half to shop and then everything is taken off the racks and tables-

and stored away for the next month – all done by the volunteers.

I – in the meantime – go to the library and organize it after a month of use,

Replacing books – completed puzzles – sorting through books and discarding them as –

relatives continually donate more books.

I place chairs back where they are moved from –

and make it as easy as I can for them to look through different sections of the library.

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Sherry and I are on the North Shore of Ohau!

We went here on a trip with our close friends THE MCBRIDE-

We spent almost two weeks in an air BNB –

A perfect base to explore the whole island which we did.

From our lanai, we could observe parachute jumping and hang gliding –

from a nearby airport.

We spent every day taking in as much as we could!

We both want to return and explore the other islands.

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

We have seen this cat several times in the last two years.

He or She lives in and around the Community Center on Ocean Isle Beach.

One time we talked to a lady who said she fed it –

Place a tin of cat food, wait for it to finish, and then remove it.

I am not sure where it sleeps as there are many foxes and people have seen coyotes.

This time it followed us on the boardwalk from the center to the steps to the beach.

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Many memories of my youth growing up in Eldred, Pa.

When the Myers family comes to visit in the summertime.

Sherry – Debby – Maddy – Ella – Sarah and Mike are behind them.

All summer long until late September –

We have open-air music concerts at the park in OIB.

FREE TO THE PUBLIC!

The park also has a huge playground with a basketball-pickle ball court.

There are bathrooms and a bocce court.

A splash pad and an open grass field with a covered concert stage.

The entire area is fenced in and many events are held here-

plus a weekly market-vendor – sales!

THIS CREATES MORE MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Midterms – every two years and the general election every four years.

We have voted in places we have lived-

Expressing our right to vote.

We have done mail-in votes when we were traveling.

It is a right that we take seriously!

This resort had many pictures of celebs over the years

and overlooks a valley with a golf course.

I can not remember the name

but it was recommended we stop and check it out!

Papa’s World – More memorable moments.

Early morning – on the beach walking –

This is part of our volunteer work –

The Protection for Sea Turtles.

We sign up to walk the East end of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

This stretch of beach is all dunes – sand and no houses.

The other beach is patrolled by an ATV and two volunteers.

Here you walk to see if any “TURTLE CRAWLS” have occurred overnight.

You also observe the erosion and any high banks that have washed out.

We also take plastic bags to pick up garbage.

It is a quiet walk into the sunrise –

Sometimes you see Dolphins swimming up or down the beach.

Often times fishing boats come out of the channel and head for the open ocean.

Walking into the sunrise is a magical part of the life at the beach.

Creating more MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN PICTURES!

My youngest son Shawn – has visited us twice since we moved here in 2020.

He owns his own Auditing and Energy protection company in NWPA –

Contracting with the State and Energy companies for energy efficiency for the elderly.

He covers the state of Pa. and some of WNY.

We hope they can get back down this year again.

Another MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN PICTURES!

How often do you see the Sunset from our backyard with snow and ice on the ground?

In the going on five years for us –

This is a first.

This storm came up from the Gulf of Mexico –

and it snowed in Florida on the coast – Ga.- S.C. and up through the Eastern coast.

Inland – no snow or ice.

This is a very RARE event and I captured it from my patio in the back of the house.

Thus creating another MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

In this picture,

I had just returned home from the oral surgeon who had done TWO IMPLANTS-

In the front of my mouth.

This was something I did not want to do –

But to be honest –

It went so smoothly – they were excellent!

Both were crowns but they had to take what was left of the teeth

and extract them and then put them in the implants.

Glad that it is now past history and everything worked out!

But it was $$$$$$$$!!

ANOTHER MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

We have a “SOLO FIRE PIT” just off our back patio.

Now – I am not so much into campfires –

but our grandkids and their parents are.

So – often times when they visit –

I start it up and they enjoy the Sunset – the stars and the

“SOLO FIRE PIT”!

Creating ANOTHER MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

LOL – and in our backyard we have bird feeders!

So – this little funny picture –

It is almost true as the DEER eats the birdseed,

and the squirrels clean up afterward!

Thus we might have a MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES if I could catch them! LOL!

Finally – a picture was taken of us on the North Shore of Ohau –

A vacation we took with our friends the McBrides some years ago.

Someday – we would like to return and do the other islands –

thus we would be able to –

Here is Sherry with her oldest daughter – Debby – celebrating her birthday –

at the beach in the summer of 2024.

And this is Tammy – Sherry’s younger daughter – on the beach –

celebrating her birthday in the summer of 2024.

We had the whole family – grandkids and all –

to help celebrate her and my birthdays that summer on the beach.

This was the first beach vacation since the 2020 pandemic, and we were able to be together.

So many times in the past before the Pandemic –

We had gone to beaches for family vacations.

The shirts were designed and made by Ella – our granddaughter.

Hopefully we can do this again in our senior years.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS IN PICTURES!

Wow – years ago – family vacation when the twins were not even walking yet!

This picture also shows GIGI –

Sherry’s mother who after her husband passed away –

Spent winters and family vacations with us.

She sold her home and bought another next to her church –

In Mount Jewett, Pa.

Because it was so cold up there in the wintertime-

We would travel back there and bring her back with us.

She loved the beach vacations with her extended family.

And little Cassidy – being held by Marcus –

As soon as she was able to walk –

would grab GIGI’s hand and walk with her.

Another MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

Christmas decorations of our home in Cameron Woods Community.

When we bought our plans for the house and started building-

We wanted a porch we could sit on during the hot sunny weather-

and it to be shaded.

Also – we did not want stairs to climb up and down in our senior years.

We also needed room for the family to come and stay –

All of them at the same time.

Sherry wanted an office with doors.

We had a one-story home with all of the above in a neighborhood –

Situated close to the beaches – shopping – entertainment –

and golf available –

A home that had the atmosphere of being country – Trees – green lawn –

And neighbors you see walking every day.

Being able to put up lights while being a senior –

This is our home today!

Another MEMORABLE MOMENT IN PICTURES!

In a ten to fifteen minutes drive – we can access two beaches-

Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach.

Both are barrier islands and both have large causeway bridges over the ICW!

We spend many days walking the beaches –

sand – surf and music are available in summer.

We never tire of this – “Hey – do you want to drive over to the beach”?

This has been a dream for years with us.

To be retired and have this is a dream come true.

Papa’s World – Good times in pictures!

On one of our GOOD TIMES together – Sherry and Cindy.

We were neighbors in WNY in the mid to late 80s and mid-90s.

They moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area and we would visit.

Over all these years – we often time planned vacations together taking us all over the world.

Buck – Cindy’s husband and I –

We golfed together when they lived as our neighbors back in WNY.

It was there that the gals decided to golf –

making for many laughs as often they would make fun of us for things we did golfing.

Like washing the golf balls off –

Not wearing mittens in cold weather –

Later they came to be good or better than us.

Today – we still laugh at all of the above.

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

The very first couple we met when we moved to Cameron Woods Community –

Is Diane and Steve.

We found out that they not only are our neighbors here –

But that they lived near us back in WNY –

And knew many of the places we did and still had a cottage on Rushford Lake.

Now – they spend their summers back in WNY while we watch their home.

Then for the rest of the year,

they are here and we do many things together.

All four of us are Bills fans!

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

Two of my best friends – Buck and Jim.

Many laugh together over the years.

Jim and I grew up in the same little town in NWPA – ELDRED!

We played softball together and both worked for American Olean Tile in Olean, N.Y.

First – after 32 years –

I transferred to NVA –

And a few years later – he transferred to the Va. Beach area.

Buck had already moved to the Wilmington, N.C. area.

Today – Jim – Sherry and I all retired from Dal-Tile,

which was the former American Olean Tile and is now owned by MOHAWK INDUSTRIES.

We have maintained this friendship all these years.

Decades and decades of get-togethers and so many laughs.

GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

Getting together – here is Dottie – married to Jim – and also from ELDRED, PA.

Friends for all this time and still having fun together –

All are now retired and enjoying life to the plus.

When we lived in Brambleton, Va. –

we were only one mile away from Tammy – Marcus – the twins and Bode.

He was too young for school and the twins were at the middle school less than a block away.

So – for the most part – he spent his days with MORMOR and PAPA.

We had a cupboard that all the kid’s toys would fit into.

All of the grandkids played with these same toys!

Hours and hours!

The carpet on the floor – the fireplace on for the cold and snow outside.

The only time he quit was to eat!

I would sit and watch and sometimes join in!

The FARM SET was his favorite.

I miss these times but also have MEMORABLE MOMENTS in pictures of those times!

Along with shopping and him riding in the cart!

Now he is older – soon to be eleven years old –

Now he asks MORMOR to bake cookies so he can help!

We have two NFL teams we follow –

The Washington Commanders and the Buffalo Bills!

Before we moved to NVA –

we lived in WNY – BILLS COUNTRY.

We were there for all four Super Bowls.

When we moved to NVA –

It was all Redskins –

To watch the Bills –

We had to travel to Alexandria to a bar above a pizza joint!

That trip because of traffic –

took an hour and a half.

That lasted one season for me

as it became a Sunday trip lasting about eight hours.

So – we slowly began to watch the Redskins

and on our final move to another house-

We lived about five miles from their headquarters

and practice fields and facilities!

Many times I would take a half-day vacation and go and watch them.

Soon – we both had two teams to cheer on – when we could watch the Bills.

Today – we live on the border of N.C. and S.C.

And we have two flags we fly during NFL season.

The Commanders and the Bills.

I lean a little more toward the Commanders

and Sherry toward the Bills!

This year as of this writing –

They both gained the AFL and the NFL championship games.

This has provided us GOOD TIMES IN PICTURES!

One of the places we volunteer is Coastal Point Living-

A senior living facility that also has a memory care unit and assisted living.

My work is in the library – where I go in and organize it once a month.

Weeding out books to make room for new ones –

Keeping puzzle boxes in like stacks –

Putting books away where they are cataloged.

Sherry helps out with the store that the residents get about once a month.

They earn vouchers during the month and spend them at the store.

They set it up as much as they can to simulate shopping in a store.

The residents come in wheelchairs – walkers – canes or walk if they can.

They love to be able once again to spend their vouchers and the feel of shopping!

THIS HAS PROVIDED A GOOD TIME IN MEMORIES!

We cherish our life together –

and our lives with family and friends!

Living in the South –

near the beach

and shopping and entertainment in our golden years.

The opportunity to live this life –

is a blessing and we are so grateful

The days come and go –

kids grow up before your eyes –

yet in reality –

this little boy – BODE –

will be ELEVEN on his next birthday!

On this day we had him while his sisters were in school and we went to Harris Teeter-

In Brambleton, Va.

Looking back – blond hair – blue eyes –

Wishing we could once again have these times back-

But we are now moving on to form new lifetime memories!

Reflections of the past.

Today that little bond hair – blue-eyed baby –

is now a young boy

who loves decorating Christmas cookies with his “MORMOR”

He loves his “MORMOR”

and asks all the time when we will be back home.

We retired with a combined 79 1/2 years –

Papa’s World – Many moments in time!

We were neighbors back in the late 80s in Pleasant Acres Drive – Portville, N.Y.

William ( Buck ) McBride –

today we live about 38 miles from them in N.C.

Often times we get together – be it golf – dinner –

shows or just talking.

Here – we are on the ICW riding a boat for a memory in time.

Sherry and Cindy –

she and Buck were our neighbors in the mid to late 80’s –

back in Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

Today they live some 38 miles from us in N.C.

We have stayed in touch all these years

and have traveled the world with them.

Today – dinners – golf – shows or

On Christmas morning.

Sitting at the top of the stairs –

smiling – giggling –

Papa’s World – A world full of memories.

If you look straight from Sherry – in between the two shadows – you can see the ball after she hit it!

Going straight down the fairway over the cart path!

She has good form and a nice easy swing.

Most of her hits are like this –

Not as far as she would like –

But straight which I wish I could say for myself.

One time she hit just like this and the ball continued to bounce forward –

On the cart path, she ended up just short of a 300-yard fairway and green! LOL

A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES!

In my senior years – I battle endlessly with weight –

For the last three and on behalf years –

I have been slowly losing that extra pounds.

To date, I am down some 13 to 14 pounds –

and weigh in at one and one-half pounds less than I did when I graduated in 1967!

IT IS NOT EASY and I am a type 2 diabetic.

On my journey for these last years –

I have dramatically reduced my BEER-SUGAR and depend mostly on WATER.

Also – I have stuck for 19 going on 20 years with my supplements of FRIUT – VEGGIES and BERRIES!

I also take OMEGAS that are made from ALGAE instead of FISH OIL –

That may or not contain MERCURY from FISH!

I watch what I eat and when out try to stick to salads and fish or chicken.

And I get tested every four to six months –

My latest cholesterol was 100!!!!!!

I dress warm for the weather as I get cold easily.

It is not easy and I have brought my A1C down from 7.0 to 6.5!

So yes – the above is funny but I know I have to stay doing what has worked for me!

A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES!

Sherry’s two daughters and my stepdaughters.

We have been together since they were small.

I would do whatever I can to help them.

The Swedish genes run deep –

Sherry’s grandmother was born in Sweden.

The girls are close to both of us and to each other.

We stay with them when we travel back to NVA!

Debby has two daughters who have graduated from college –

and the youngest H.S. this year

Tammy has two almost 15-year-old twin girls and an almost 11-year-old son.

EVERYONE HAS given us A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES!

My youngest son Shawn and wife Trisha.

Who still lives in NWPA where he was raised.

Today they own and operate a business that provides insulation for the elderly to conserve energy-

Through the State and Energy Companies.

One side is insulation and the other side is inspections to see if they qualify through AUDITS!

Shawn also is a ranked pool player in the USA and CANADA –

Winning many tournaments and yearly trips to Las Vegas.

They both have brought A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES to us.

We all are from WNY and NWPA and have been friends for over four decades.

We try to get together every four months and we all now live in the state of N.C.

We are all retired and living our dreams –

Fun – laughter – and singing are but a few of the things we enjoy together.

Thus bringing A WORLD FULL F MEMORIES into all of our lives.

My oldest son Troy and partner Andrea –

along with the rest of the family.

He builds houses from the ground up – EVERYTHING!

He gets that from my own father –

who could do the same.

He still lives in NWPA where he was raised.

He has been down once-

and hoping he can make it this year once again.

Proud father of this man –

They bring A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES to us.

It all began here on 6-25-1982 for our WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES.

A WORLD FULL OF MEMORIES!

Papa’s World – Fun times with family and friends.

Above is my son – Troy and then me – he is in the yellow shirt and I am next to him-

We are in front of the Lutheran Church on the main street in Mount Jewett, PA.

This is where Sherry went to church growing up.

We were here visiting her mother and watching the parade for the Swedish Festival.

It is both a happy memory and a sad one looking back.

The couple to the left – I graduated with her; her husband was a Pa. State trooper.

Sadly they both have passed away – gone but not forgotten.

The Swedish Festival is a week-long event held yearly for the past 50 years.

Vendors – music events and parade and carnival.

We have not attended since her mother passed away.

A memory from the past.

In the cart is Buck and standing is Jimmy.

My two oldest longtime friends other than the ones I graduated with.

Buck and I were neighbors back in Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

Jim grew up in Eldred, Pa. the same as I did.

We worked together at the TILE PLANT and played softball together.

Today we all live in the state of N.C.

We reunite every four or so months with our wives –

playing golf – laughing and having good times for memories.

Many years ago this was taken of the grandkids.

Bode is now ten years old.

Maddy graduated from college and Ella will this Spring graduate from college.

Sarah will graduate this year from H.S.

Fun times with grandkids growing up.

Inspiration for this blog!

Sherry and Cindy – friendship goes way back to the late 80s when we moved to Pleasant Acres Dr.

Just outside Portville, N.Y. when we became neighbors of the McBrides.

Today – that friendship continues here in N.C. as we live about 38 miles South of them.

Today we get together for music – plays – dinner and golf.

Friends are forever.

Sherry with Bode – Cassidy and Taylor years ago.

When we moved – it was hard leaving them behind as we spent a lot of time with them.

Today we go back and forth to see family.

And they in turn come down here.

But we have so many memories and are making new memories since we moved.

Pictures bring it all back.

While we are in the sunset of our senior years –

remaining as healthy as we can –

volunteering for many organizations –

We remain in our dream life living here in the South.

Warm – sand – surf and entertainment.

OIB – thank you for reading my blog –

Papa’s World – What I saw!

Throughout my time here on Earth – I have seen many sights and though how it could be a story!

So – I constantly look for things in my life –

Here is a pile of shoes –

Not just any shoes –

And notice – The pair on the far right –

Both facing in the same direction –

And a pair of socks!

These belong to our young grandson Bode –

And this picture was taken back in our home in Brambleton, Va.

We sold this home in 2020 – during the pandemic and moved South –

To North Myrtle Beach before we built our house in Cameron Woods Community!

I found this shoe placement to be interesting.

They would come for a visit and rule number one –

Remove your shoes! (Bode also chose to remove his socks!) LOL

Now the first pair to the left is Cassidy’s -And the Middle pair is Taylor’s!

Taylor has always been the bigger of the twins.

But what caught my eye was how they took them off and placed them!!!!

Being twins – they are exactly placed alike!

I found this to be interesting so I took the picture.

They are both alike and different.

but in this one instance –

More alike than different!

WHAT I SAW!

Here is Buck in the cart and Jimmy standing.

These two are besides grade school friends –

My oldest friends.

Jimmy and I are from Eldred, Pa.

While I am older by 9 Years –

We played softball together and worked at the American Olean Tile Plant together.

We went on family vacations together –

Raise our children and go to each other’s weddings!

We go back to the mid-70s.

Buck actually knew Jimmy before he knew me.

But – when we sold our first home we moved to Pleasant Acres Drive and became neighbors –

Buck and Cindy McBride became close friends and golfing partners-

all those years ago in the 80s.

Then they moved South to the Wilmington, N.C. area.

On vacations, we would visit and at that time we both loved the area.

We have traveled the World with Buck and Cindy.

And now live 38 miles from them –

They are in Magnolia Greens Gplf Plantation outside of Leland –

Still close to Wilmington, N.C.

Friends for life – WHAT I SAW!

Sherry – Buck and Cindy at Vanish back in NVA near Leesburg, Va. –

While visiting our family.

These are times gone past but remain as memories and times to come.

McBrides and Sherry and me.

Thanks for reading and as always HGD!

Jimmy and Dottie – Julie – Cindy’s sister – Cindy – Buck and Sherry –

WHAT I SAW – is forever friends!

Papa’s World – Some thoughts and some pictures.

Here I am at the American Pickers store in Nashville, Tenn.

For those of you who do not know,

in the mid-70s,

I started to ride motorcycles.

Yes – I had long hair (curly)

And I rode for six years –

I was involved in an accident –

A new young driver was driving a VW-

from one red light to another.

I was behind her in Amherst, N.Y.

I was just going from second gear to third –

when all of a sudden she was stopped with no brake lights!

She had stalled the VW –

and not put her foot on the brake peddle.

At that point –

all I could do was lay the bike on its side and skid up to her bumper.

She was sorry – I was scraped up –

The windshield was broken but the crash guards saved the bike.

I rode for another year –

but the memory was still there –

and I decided to quit riding.

But – in Nashville –

this bike brought all those memories of riding back!

A part of my life that was free in the wind –

A part of my life that long hair – leather and boots –

Was something I shall always cherish.

Sherry and me –

at my grandson’s wedding outside Nashville, Tenn.

Ryan is the oldest grandchild –

and lives near Nashville.

We occasionally see him-

and stay in touch.

He is a part owner of a restaurant and bar –

and looking in the future of opening a second one.

I talked to him several months ago-

and he is thinking of coming for a visit.

They had a photo booth at the wedding –

and we took some pictures!

Hoping he can come – some memories of the past.

This was at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

Here is Sherry serving wine as a communion assistant.

We loved our time in NVA –

despite the traffic –

The Metro allowed us to travel in and out –

without the Hassle of all the traffic.

Memories of times gone by.

LOL – well – it might be true – “NOT”!

A day trip into D.C. –

to the MGM at the National Harbor!

Often we would take these day trips onto the streets of D.C.

This one we had to drive –

And if you know me – I hate to drive!

But – in the end,

it was worth the Hassel.

Today – it is but one more memory of the 21 Year’s we lived near here.

MGM at National Habor –

LOL – LOL – LOL!!!!!

Papa’s World – Making memories with grandkids.

The memories we make – the times we spend together –

the moments in time captured by the camera!

MORMOR ( Sherry ) Cassidy to the left and Taylor to the right.

Generations continuing –

Making memories.

How is it possible he is now ten years old?

It seems only yesterday he was crawling. BODE!

Bode – before he could walk!

Memories in the making – life goes on – and as of now- we are part of it!

The time has gone by –

but we remain part of their lives even though we moved to OIB!

Now – they spend breaks and vacations in the OIB & SUNSET BEACH area!

Today she is close to graduating from H.S.

It seems only yesterday this smile lit up everyone around her!

She is graceful – elegant –

Very funny and full of laughter.

Below – Sarah on Sherry’s lap!

SARAH – has grown up!

For the longest time, we called her “TINY” –

when she was little.

Now – she will graduate from college with two degrees!

And follow in her father’s footsteps –

Of being a PHYS ED teacher to little children.

A heart of gold –

A leader for the “LITTLE ONES”!

Ella when we took her to Florida to see STAR WARS!

Ella – college soccer is now finished.

Memories for a lifetime and more to be made!

MADDY – Sherry and Ella!

She adored her grandmother.

Today – she has graduated from college and four years of soccer-

to a degree in Environmental Science.

From often being the smallest player on the pitch –

To being captain in her senior year –

and twice all-conference-

Today she works for a major environmental company nationwide.

When they all were younger!

Today – the World awaits them!

PAPA’S WORLD!

Papa’s World – A look back – thoughts and words!

On our last Florida trip just before the Pandemic made travel almost impossible-

We were at one of the Disney resorts –

A couple saw us trying to do a selfie and asked if we would like them to take the picture.

Here are the results –

Whomever you were – a big thank you!

A couple of years ago – Bob and Pam were camping at Myrtle Beach in their RV.

We made the trip down to see them and walked out on the WINDY BEACH!

You can tell that we were only a moment before we retreated to the other side of the sand dunes!

Another picture of a moment in time!

Four decades plus of best friends –

The McBrides – who were our neighbors in Pleasant Acres Drive in Portville, N.Y.

The Browns whom I knew back in my hometown of Eldred, Pa.

Today – we all live in the state of N.C.

We are further South in OIB-

While Cindy and Buck are outside of Wilmington –

And Jim and Dottie are near Edenton –

We still travel to one another’s homes for visits and golf!

When the husbands are designated drivers! LOL

You never know what these three ladies will do!

It’s all about smiles – laughter and besties getting together!

Oh, the times they have been together –

Through the years – BESTIES ALL THE TIME!

A LOOK BACK – THOUGHTS AND WORDS- BESTIES!

Papa’s World – Life goes on!

Some veggies and greens from our Tower Garden that we had in Brambleton, Va.

When we moved to Cameron Woods Community-

We brought a long one of the Tower Gardens –

having sold the other three!

We found that one was more than enough for the two of us.

We were giving the produce away in Va.-

Today – we grow it year-round on our back patio in the corner.

It gets almost full sun all day long there.

The only time we stop is to take it apart clean it and start over again.

We wash it off with white vinegar water and sponges!

With this Tower Garden –

LIFE GOES ON!

This is the Tower Garden we took with us and is set up on the back patio.

We store the lights as we do not need them now.

The LOOK OF WONDER was back in Brambleton as Santa made a stop on the corner by our home.

Taylor and Cassidy.

I miss those days –

Elf on the Shelf-

Santa’s cookies –

Little feet in the morning –

Smiles of wonder –

Santa had come overnight and took a bite of the cookie and a sip of milk!

LIFE GOES ON!

Christmas with Sherry’s mother Barb and the family in Brambleton.

Sadly she is no longer with us –

But past memories and pictures –

Keeps her always in our minds.

LIFE GOES ON.

Bode when he was small at our home in Brambleton.

Today he is getting so tall at ten years old.

The little blond-blue-eyed boy is growing up!

LIFE GOES ON!

My little smile for the day!

Cassidy –

She makes me smile.

Papa’s World – A list of pictures with memories!

Over the years we have gone to many JP HEALTH CONFERENCES!

Here we are on our way into what is called THE ELTONS-

A celebration of achievement for the company.

Debby who was being honored for achieving QMND – And Sherry for achieving SSC.

At this particular event – the entertainment was LONESTAR –

The country-western icon band.

For 19-plus years we have been on the path to health and our internet business.

MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Our three oldest granddaughters when they were young!

It is hard to think that they are adults now –

One graduated from college –

One about to graduate from college –

and one soon to graduate from High School!

MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

Here is Sherry with Cassidy ( hat ) Bode – who couldn’t walk at that time – and Taylor –

All three call her MORMOR –

Which in Swedish is MOTHERS MOTHER!

Sherry’s grandmother was born in Sweden.

One of the rules of life we live by!

We often visit the different areas by the water –

Here is the ICW and we stopped for a quick lunch!

today she rides and works in the stalls in the barn.

Papa’s World – Happenings over the years!

When they were little – Tammy – Marcus – Ella and Sarah with the twins and Bode!

We were at a resort in Pa. –

A complete family reunion of sorts –

There was a large pond and we somehow had this golf cart.

Bode is now ten years old and Ella will graduate from college and Sarah from H.S.

HAPPENINGS OVER THE YEARS!

One of our many excursions with Buck and Cindy –

I think this was the Sierra Nevada Brewery just outside Ashville, N.C.

We explored the city and the Biltmore!

This was Halloween time on the front porch of our “FOREVER” home in Brambleton, Va.

We built this 3100 SF. home with the thoughts of retiring here.

But then – the PANDEMIC came along –

Our 401K took a major hit!

But – the housing market went up and we decided to cash in!

The window to the left was the formal dining room and the windows to the right was the front formal living room.

You can just see the balcony at the top and this came off the spare bedroom.

A beautiful home –

the second home we had built!

LOL – better than a Skunk!

Sherry – nice easy swing and straight down the fairway!

We golf when we can –

either with friends or by ourselves.

Oftentimes in afternoons when most people are finishing up!

One of the reasons we selected our area to live in.

Family – friends – neighbors –

Church – Volunteers –

Giving – helping and caring!

Our Tower Garden we had inside our garage during winter.

Grow lights allowed us to eat fresh greens all year!

JUST MORE LIFE HAPPENINGS!

OUR HOME TODAY!

Papa’s World – Time – pictures – memories!

This past Christmas – decorations – lights and colors!

We had one tree outside on the covered porch –

One tree inside in the living room-

And one small tree in the enclosed Lanai!

Sherry does a fantastic decorating job!

I – do both trees that have decorations.

Just a picture for a memory of the holidays!

The same porch from the summer!

We always have flower pots –

but this year the deer have eaten everything we place outside!

I have used all types of sprays – none worked!

I ended up moving the pots inside the porch and near the walls.

That helped but it was always a pain to move in morning and night!

Just a picture of the past summer!

Posting positive thoughts – good vibes and sweet memories!

Papa’s World – for family – friends and a history of who and what we are!

Just a look at our life together.

A look back in time at a sweet memory!

All six grandkids are on the beach.

Memories to cherish –

A time in the past when they all were young!

Today – Maddy is 24 years old!

Just a picture of a time long past for a memorable memory!

A picture of the collapsed Kinzua Via Duct Bridge –

This bridge was built in the 1800s to ferry coal from the coal fields of Pa.

It also is where Sherry was raised a few miles away in Mount Jewett, Pa.

A tornado came through some years ago –

and took down half the bridge where it remains where it crashed to the ground!

Today – it is a Pa. State Park –

and has been converted into a walkway –

Where at the end is a viewing platform with a glass floor!

Here – you can stand on it and look over 300 feet straight down to the floor –

Of the Kinzua Valley where Native Americans once roamed!

Just a picture of Pa. – where Sherry is from!

Here is Maddy –

Taken two years ago at her senior year graduation from the University Of Lynchburg, Va.

She was the oldest in the beach picture of the grandkids!

Just a picture of how grandkids grow up!

A mother with her two daughters –

Debby – Sherry and Tammy!

Papa’s World – Looking back – formed memories!

Here we are back in NVA –

Celebrating our 40th anniversary with family!

We are now nearly three years past this photo-

But are “LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORY”!

A few years ago –

celebrating Saint Patrick’s day in North Myrtle Beach –

with oldest granddaughter Maddy!

And that day she had her favorite fried dill pickles!

Here we are “BUT LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”!

A day off the ICW in the marshes –

Sherry and I booked a trip, taking my longtime friend Bob and his wife Pam.

NOTE: take separate Kayaks –

as two people cannot steer at the same time!! LOL

HERE WE ARE ‘LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”!

To be honest – if you use both of our hands –

We still cannot count those who have made our lives better!

Here is Sherry during our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic-

HERE WE ARE “LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”

Papa’s World – A look at life in pictures!

They say a picture expresses a thousand words!

The “WHY” we moved to OIB – close to the border of N.C. and S.C.

In the distance in the upper right-hand corner –

Sits a very tall building –

That my friends is the only tall building on these two barrier islands!

That is Ocean Isle Beach and this beach is seen from the pier –

It’s Sunset Beach!

We choose this area after nine months in North Myrtle Beach.

Which is 16 miles or a 30-minute drive South for us.

Going North on route 17 –

Is Wilmington, N.C.About a 40-minute drive.

These beaches are minutes from our home on the mainland side of the ICW!

While we are not on the beaches every day –

We can and do go when we want to.

Can it be cold here?

Yes – but most days are clear skies and bright sunshine.

Only once have I seen ice and it was gone by mid-morning.

I have not seen the snow accumulation – once saw flurries for a ten-minute time frame!

This Beach – we like to walk as it is flatter than OIB.

Making it easier to walk for me.

Both have piers and great entrances to the beach.

There soon will be paid parking I assume on both beaches –

But you can park at the piers for $10.00 all day!

I understand there might be parking passes for residents – one per household!

Living here – is a dream come true for both of us!

Can a picture say a thousand words?

I BELIEVE IT CAN!

Our oldest granddaughter – MADDY – on her graduation day from the University of Lynchburg!

She now has been out of college life for almost two years!

She has an environmental science degree and is employed by a countrywide Environmental firm.

She works in both the office and fieldwork.

When asked what she prefers –

Her answer is fieldwork!

She loves the outdoors –

often hiking mountain trails with her sister – ELLA-

A picture can say a thousand words!

I personally believe in a strong military presence both here and abroad.

The might of this country is in freedom –

That freedom is protected by our men and women in the service.

May all be blessed –

I stand with the military.

A picture tells a thousand words.

We have many people we consider friends.

I have also seen many who I don’t consider friends.

I unfollow many who have negative comments on my page.

Life is short enough without those comments –

I have no time for that –

I focus on positive thoughts – memories –

And write these blogs to enforce that in my pictures and words.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

My hope is that this brings a good vibe to your day!

Many thanks for reading my blogs!
