This past Christmas – decorations – lights and colors!
We had one tree outside on the covered porch –
One tree inside in the living room-
And one small tree in the enclosed Lanai!
Sherry does a fantastic decorating job!
I – do both trees that have decorations.
Just a picture for a memory of the holidays!

The same porch from the summer!
We always have flower pots –
but this year the deer have eaten everything we place outside!
I have used all types of sprays – none worked!
I ended up moving the pots inside the porch and near the walls.
That helped but it was always a pain to move in morning and night!
Just a picture of the past summer!

Posting positive thoughts – good vibes and sweet memories!
Papa’s World – for family – friends and a history of who and what we are!
Just a look at our life together.

A look back in time at a sweet memory!
All six grandkids are on the beach.
Memories to cherish –
A time in the past when they all were young!
Today – Maddy is 24 years old!
Just a picture of a time long past for a memorable memory!

A picture of the collapsed Kinzua Via Duct Bridge –
This bridge was built in the 1800s to ferry coal from the coal fields of Pa.
It also is where Sherry was raised a few miles away in Mount Jewett, Pa.
A tornado came through some years ago –
and took down half the bridge where it remains where it crashed to the ground!
Today – it is a Pa. State Park –
and has been converted into a walkway –
Where at the end is a viewing platform with a glass floor!
Here – you can stand on it and look over 300 feet straight down to the floor –
Of the Kinzua Valley where Native Americans once roamed!
Just a picture of Pa. – where Sherry is from!

Here is Maddy –
Taken two years ago at her senior year graduation from the University Of Lynchburg, Va.
She was the oldest in the beach picture of the grandkids!
Just a picture of how grandkids grow up!

A mother with her two daughters –
Debby – Sherry and Tammy!
Swedish genes run deep!
Just a picture of those I dearly love!

PAPA’S WORLD – LIFE IN PICTURES!

Here we are back in NVA –
Celebrating our 40th anniversary with family!
We are now nearly three years past this photo-
But are “LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORY”!

A few years ago –
celebrating Saint Patrick’s day in North Myrtle Beach –
with oldest granddaughter Maddy!
And that day she had her favorite fried dill pickles!
Here we are “BUT LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”!

A day off the ICW in the marshes –
Sherry and I booked a trip, taking my longtime friend Bob and his wife Pam.
NOTE: take separate Kayaks –
as two people cannot steer at the same time!! LOL
HERE WE ARE ‘LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”!

To be honest – if you use both of our hands –
We still cannot count those who have made our lives better!

The girl I fell in love with –
Here is Sherry during our honeymoon in the Dominican Republic-
In June – 1982!
HERE WE ARE “LOOKING BACK-FORMED MEMORIES”!

My mother is on the far left, and her parents, Nora and David Aiken, are in the center.
Then the rest of her brothers and sisters!
My grandfather died before I was born in 1949 –
But I have as a middle name – HIS!
HERE WE ARE “LOOKING BACK_FORMED MEMORIES”!

Walking the streets of Washington, D.C.-
With granddaughter Taylor and grandson Bode –
Sherry is in the middle.
HERE WE ARE “LOOKING BACK – FORMING MEMORIES”!

Cindy – Dottie and Sherry –
over four decades of friendships.

HERE WE ARE “LOOKING BACK – FORMED MEMORIES”

Footprints in the sand –
Waves gently washing ashore – Soon they will disappear –
Erasing all proof that I strolled here!
The history of humans –
Over time disappears –
Occasionally – to reappear –
And cause us to wonder –
What has been all these tens of thousands of years ago!
I may be a history buff –
Excited to view new discoveries.
A Good Vibe for today is I feel we have existed –
For hundreds of thousands of years as humans.
Today – I celebrate that existence.
GOOD VIBES and HUMOR!

Laughter with long-time friends is PRICELESS!
Smile – laugh and feel good!
You are looking at FORTY PLUS YEARS of friendship!
Wine – beer – music and golf!
Friendships are a priority in our life together.
GOOD VIBES – SOME HUMOR!

There is a place about one and one half mile walk south –
from the Sunset Beach Pier!
It is a memorial to two Hippie Souls –
Who over FORTY YEARS AGO-
Hauled tools – a post and a mailbox to the middle of the seashore that is protected.
here they erected a mailbox and put a journal inside.
While over the years –
the mailbox has been replaced –
It still is a destination for souls who walk and write their thoughts in the new journals.
There now are two park benches to sit on –
Plaques to commemorate the two hippies.
A driftwood tree with a plaque sits high on the dune behind the benches and mailbox.
You gaze back across the marsh and water to Little River, S.C. –
And in the distance is Cherry Grove- just a short walk from NMB!
THE KINDRED SPIRIT MAILBOX IS HISTORIC AND THE JOURNALS ARE PRESERVED!
Over four decades’ worth of writing!
If you want a GOOD VIBE – consider the walk – in the surf –
and sit and write and gaze out to sea!
We have done it serval times and each time a wanting to come back exists.
MY GOOD VIBE FOR TODAY!

As the sun rises in the East on Ocean Isle Beach –
another day dawns.
We are blessed to be here to see this –
Our dream of living our dream is now here.
One day at a time and living life to the fullest while aging as healthy as we can.

Being a SENIOR – it happens but we choose to live it and smile- BE HAPPY!

Maddy – her first day on the bus for her first day of school!
Now – 23 years old and working as a Geologist-Scientist for a national environmental firm.
How this has changed in the years following!

The team I was part of for the protection of Sea Turtles – we sat this nest from 7pm. to 11pm.
each night until it hatched!
This was our first year – Sherry was on a previous nest.

My friend of many years – Buck and I at the COMEDY bus waiting for it to leave on our tour.
On a trip to Ashville, N.C.

Three oldest granddaughters – Ella – Maddy and Sarah during their vacation in Cameron Woods to see us.

My golfing buddies and friends for years and years – Buck and Jimmy!

The twins when they were young – playing hide and seek with me!
A memory from long ago!

Papa’s World – 1982 – the year we were married – YEARS GONE PAST!

They say a picture expresses a thousand words!
The “WHY” we moved to OIB – close to the border of N.C. and S.C.
In the distance in the upper right-hand corner –
Sits a very tall building –
That my friends is the only tall building on these two barrier islands!
That is Ocean Isle Beach and this beach is seen from the pier –
It’s Sunset Beach!
We choose this area after nine months in North Myrtle Beach.
Which is 16 miles or a 30-minute drive South for us.
Going North on route 17 –
Is Wilmington, N.C.About a 40-minute drive.
These beaches are minutes from our home on the mainland side of the ICW!
While we are not on the beaches every day –
We can and do go when we want to.
Can it be cold here?
Yes – but most days are clear skies and bright sunshine.
Only once have I seen ice and it was gone by mid-morning.
I have not seen the snow accumulation – once saw flurries for a ten-minute time frame!
This Beach – we like to walk as it is flatter than OIB.
Making it easier to walk for me.
Both have piers and great entrances to the beach.
There soon will be paid parking I assume on both beaches –
But you can park at the piers for $10.00 all day!
I understand there might be parking passes for residents – one per household!
Living here – is a dream come true for both of us!
Can a picture say a thousand words?
I BELIEVE IT CAN!

Our oldest granddaughter – MADDY – on her graduation day from the University of Lynchburg!
She now has been out of college life for almost two years!
She has an environmental science degree and is employed by a countrywide Environmental firm.
She works in both the office and fieldwork.
When asked what she prefers –
Her answer is fieldwork!
She loves the outdoors –
often hiking mountain trails with her sister – ELLA-
A picture can say a thousand words!

I personally believe in a strong military presence both here and abroad.
The might of this country is in freedom –
That freedom is protected by our men and women in the service.
May all be blessed –
I stand with the military.
A picture tells a thousand words.

We have many people we consider friends.
I have also seen many who I don’t consider friends.
I unfollow many who have negative comments on my page.
Life is short enough without those comments –
I have no time for that –
I focus on positive thoughts – memories –
And write these blogs to enforce that in my pictures and words.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

My hope is that this brings a good vibe to your day!
Many thanks for reading my blogs!
PAPA’S WORLD-
my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

For us – it all started on 6-25-1982 –
The day we were married.
Combining two sets of children –
Sherry’s two daughters –
and my two sons who stayed with their mother.
Weekends were full of living out in the country –
Campfires – sled riding down the 1/10 mile driveway.
Taking weekend trips camping –
blending the two families while working full-time jobs.

Sherry and her two daughters – Debby on the left – and Tammy on the right.
Both girls married and between them –
five granddaughters and one grandson.
Debby’s three girls are all adults now.
Maddy graduated from college nearly two years ago.
Ella graduates from college this year.
Sarah graduates from H.S. this year.
Tammy had twin girls –
they both are 14 years old.
The first boy is Bode – who is ten years old.

My two boys are with their partners and family.
Troy – with the beard – is the oldest.
His partner is Andrea –
He has no children and still lives back in NWPA.
The man can build a house from the ground up – everything!
Shawn with his wife Trisha and her daughter Autumn.
He has his own business –
He partners with Power companies and the state –
In energy efficiency for the Elderly –
Both auditing and insulation sides to his company.
He has two sons – Ryan and Dillion –
Both live in other parts of the country.

Here we are with Pam and Bob-
Bob and I went to grade school and high school together.
For the past six years, they have been retired and on the road in an RV.
Stopping each year for a weekly visit-
rehashing old times – playing golf –
Decades and decades of life shared from little kids to now seniors!

The grandkids along with Maddy’s boyfriend – Kendrick.
Moving South in 2020 –
We left behind all the grandkids in NVA.
But – they all have been to see us numerous times and we go back to NVA-
Life moves on and with it creates memories!

Ginger and Sherry –
Became fast friends back in NVA.
Today – her husband Jason and her –
live just outside Leland, N.C. –
close to our other longtime friends Cindy and Buck.
We golf with both couples.
They moved from NVA in the past year.
We will be making more memories together!

While TIME is like a RIVER of WATER –
Creating memories in pictures and this blog –
allows for family – friends and future generations –
to read and see what our life together has garnered.
The beginning goes all the way back to 6-25-1982-

We have seen this bar and grill every time we cross the Little River Bridge over the ICW into North Myrtle Beach – wondering what it was like – always seemed packed – we found out with friends!
MY LITTLE SMILE FOR THE DAY!

We had heard good things – music – drinks – happy hour and food!
There are boat slips here along with a marina – and all types of boat traffic on the ICW!

View of the slips and marina and the causeway bridge we travel over on our way to NMB!

Pam – Sherry – Papa and Bob – my grade-school – Jr. High and H.S. buddy from Eldred, Pa.
They were in a campground a couple miles from our home for almost two weeks –
we did a lot with them and this was our last night get-together.

This is only one half of Captain Archies – our food was very good and happy hour drink prices!

Pam and Sherry – we sat outside in the sun with views of the Marina and the bridge.

Palm trees – boats – great company – sorry to see them go – we played golf three times!

Bobby and Pam – we talked of maybe again in the Spring when they leave Florida!

Pam in oversized CAPTAIN ARCHIE CHAIR – fun times and lots of laughs!

PAPA’S WORLD – FIRST TIME VISITING CAPTAIN ARCHIES WITH FRIENDS – WE WILL GO BACK!

It took me a long time to get here –
But there is some truth in this caption! LOL
Now – in my senior years –
I have a knack for looking at things and seeing if I can make them easier!
This past Christmas Season –
I decided to clear some shelf space in the garage!
Then – I started bringing all those crates down from the ATTIC over the garage!

Those drop-down stairs in the garage –
They are narrow and when you get 2/3’s of the way up – your space for your feet narrows considerably!
The opening is very narrow toward the top.
Plus – I am lying on my stomach handing those large crates down to Sherry-
on the second rung from the bottom.
The crate then slides down the ladder to the tips of her fingers to lower down to the floor!
This is our fourth Christmas here in our new home –
And now is becoming more difficult to use –
that attic space for storage for boxes and crates –
Of Christmas decorations!

This was an option when we built the new house.
There is a lot of space up there –
and now after the season –
I can store all or most of it on the shelves of the garage.
EXCEPT – we have three artificial trees –
Two small ones – one a Charlie Brown tree – no needles.
And our main tree – a large Charlie Brown tree with no needles.
These two Charlie Brown trees – the naked limbs fold up and have embedded lights!
They are easier to put away altogether –
as is the one outside on the porch which has fake green limbs.

By the time you read this blog –
We will have decided what to do with the trees!
The small ones-
I can still take up and down the ladder by myself.
The taller one must be handed down –
But that hard floor up there on my knees causes me pain!

This too shall be worked out by the both of us!
Just a small part of our daily life –
My next project is coloring all the grout in our shower –
The walls are 12 x 12 –
wide grout lines!
The floor is 2″ x 4″ tiles –
This small tile-in shower –
keeps you from slipping on the wet floor!
But each one has to be colored –
( at this time of writing – all is done)
Now I have some spray grout protectant –
that I shall put on and wipe excess off!
I hope this will be the last time I have to do this as working on my knees is getting harder!

The other day we went to NMB to run some errands in Big Lot stores –
we had not eaten breakfast and it was a little past 10 AM.
We decided to stop at Chick-fil-A – I had a muffin sandwich –
Sherry had an omelet type of breakfast.
She sat there and looked at me and said –
” I LOVE OUR LIFE HERE”!
Being a Senior has its challenges –
But at this point in our life together –
I agree –
“I LOVE OUR LIFE HERE”
and we will solve each problem –
one at a time and live –
OUR LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME!

PAPA’S WORLD –

On the final full day with Debby – Sarah and Ella – we went to Sunset Beach – the sun was warm –
the surf was somewhat cool – and the family time was great –
FUN DAY AT THE BEACH – FAMILY!

In the surf – left to right – Ella – Sarah – Sherry and Debby – the water was around 55 degrees – the sun was around 70 degrees and very little wind – making for a good day to “BEACH IT”!
They stayed an extra day to catch some “RAY”!

Ella throwing a small football – Sarah defending her mother Debby –

The pass and an almost catch by Debby bit Sarah knocked it away at the last moment!
Fun times – they got their feet wet and also some sun and a warm day.

From left to right – Sarah – Ella – Debby and Sherry – mother – daughter and granddaughters!

PAPA’S WORLD – FUN DAY AT THE BEACH – FAMILY!

The day began when I took on the job of coloring the grout lines in the shower!
Both on the walls and the floor – think two-by-four-inch floor tile –
and twelve by twelve wall tile!
This required hands and knees bent low over the floor adding the grout coloring!
the walls were easier as I could stand or sit on a stool!
It took me two and one-half hours and I had to finish up the next day!
The above picture relates to what followed later that day!
In the afternoon – 2:30pm. to 4:00 pm. –
We volunteered to go to OUR COASTAL LIVING HOME –
For senior residents.
We volunteer here at least once a month.
Sherry helps with the resident’s monthly shopping –
A room is set up with donated items –
clothes – jewelry – knick-knacks –
displayed on racks and tables.
They use money credits they earn throughout the month and can shop for items.
They come in in wheelchairs – walkers and some are still able to walk.
Most are in their late 70’s to mid 90’s!
While she does this I attend the library –
organizing the books ( keeping them mostly on the top shelf so it is easier for them to see)
Separating the puzzles into the number of pieces.
But this day – we were there to help out for a Veterans Day ice cream social celebration!

Twenty residents showed up –
Many can not leave their rooms-
but they came in being pushed in wheelchairs –
Walkers or canes.
Two men were there and a celebration and a certificate read on their service as VETS!
I scooped ice cream while Sherry and one other volunteer put toppings on as asked and delivered to their seat at the tables.
Then – moved around to different tables to talk to them.
That was the best part as then they had other people to talk to!

While we volunteer our services –
We know that down the road –
someday this may be us sitting in a wheelchair –
We try as hard as we can to age healthy!
One woman was two years younger than either one of us.

This helps us think young –
keeping us active and still helping others as much as we can.

What I remember most from my life before we started this healthy living – was my obsession with fast food.
I loved Mcdonald’s double quarter pounders and fries – and diet Coke!
This would become a whole new way of living for me – one that I started to give up what I loved to eat –
Milk – Sodas(POP) – fast food – fried foods –
The thing I regret the most is Juice Plus was around THIRTEEN YEARS before I even heard of it –
so I lost those years and that time before – 35 years – of eating unhealthy – led to my heart attack!

I am convinced had I not changed – I would not have survived my heart attack – FOUR BLOCKAGES!
Putting the above into my body at that stage of my life – I feel gave me the best chance of survival and I am forever grateful for that.

Today we are in our SENIOR YEARS – enjoying life and health as a lifestyle.
Along this journey of eighteen years – not only have we changed our own lives – but that of our family – friends – strangers – and lots and lots of children!

The day we said YES – to the question –
“IF YOU COULD PUT 30 DIFFERENT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND BERRIES INTO YOUR BODY – EVERY DAY WITH A CAPSULE – WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED”?

That question and that day – I strongly feel saved my life all those years ago – for I had not put those
fruits- vegetables, and berries into my body for all those years.
And now going on for eighteen years we are asking you and people like you that very question!

Starting your and my day off in a happy thought!
Sip your coffee – tea or any other brew –
I have begun another day in my life one day at a time!

Those that are gone but always remembered-
Memories – pictures –
I try to keep them in my mind –
They are always with me in thought!

Ever since my heart attack almost eleven years ago –
I have tried to live my life one day at a time!
Never knowing what will happen –
but I feel at peace knowing each and every day is a blessing!

To our family back in NWPA –
Thoughts and love until we see you again!

To our families back in NVA-
Love – peace and good thoughts until we see you again.

And to our close friends whom we see every three to four months –

Growing up and raising our families 70 miles South of Buffalo, N.Y. in NWPA and WNY –
we grew up with the famous BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS!
The Original wings came from the OLD ANCHOR BAR in Buffalo, N.Y. in the early 60’s.

We found in the Villages of Leesburg, Va. a franchise of the OLD ANCHOR BAR!!!!!
Of course, it is a “BUFFALO BILLS BAR” as well – and here you can get BEEF ON WICKS –
and all types of BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS with the ORGINAL SAUCE!

Of course, we had to try it out and I elected to split an order of “BONELESS” wings with my son-in-law!
And – they were fab – now I do not like them “HOT” and these were moderate which was fine with me!

Marcus ordered a BLOODY MARY that came with a BUFFALO CHICKEN WING (LEG) on a toothpick
on the top of the drink!

I was told there were 12 franchises across the country of OLD ANCHOR BAR –
which I did not know existed!
Enjoy the blog as we enjoyed memories of BUFFALO CHICKEN WINGS –

Maybe it is time to clean out my closet –
But I have favorites to wear –
Maybe – keep for just a while longer –
And enjoy in my old age!

Faith – love and being thankful –
A way of our lives together!

Humor – smiles and laughing –
Keeps me looking forward to each and every day!
And “YES” –
I groan each and every day! LOL!

“Kindness – is FREE” –
“Smiles are also Free”
Live life to the plus –
Give what you can –
And help others!

Our friends for years and years –
Brings joy into our lives.
“FRIENDS” – always close –
Brings joy into our lives.

My hope for today is to start your day off with kind thoughts-
Smiles and laughter –
And make every day count one day at a time!

Everyone – “HAVE A GREAT DAY”!
She was brown and black – a mutt – but she was my mutt!
She was not a house dog – why I do not know – from my first memory of her –
she was on a chain in the back yard with her own dog house – full of hay and straw.
The chain was about twenty feet long so she had a wide area to run around in.
The dog house sat by the corner of the very old red barn next to the railroad tracks.
My father had at one time dug out the foundation to jack it up and put supports under it.
He had found a very old sword in the ground – still in its sheath and that was all pitted and rusted away.
We guessed it had fallen off a train and was maybe the Spanish American War or Civil War.
Penny was the only dog we had as I was growing up – funny – I do not remember her passing on.
But I do remember her always wagging her whole body when I came down to see her.
She was never loose as they said she would run and would not obey –
they were afraid she would get hit by a car on the main street in front of the house.
I never had another dog while living at home but my sister who lived next door did.
Pedro was my favorite – small – blonde – and he was a house dog.
I had dogs after that when I was on my own.
After I left and my dad passed away my mom got a very little dog named Sparky.
He was a house dog and very small.
But penny was the first dog I remembered – I liked her –
Thanks for reading Papa’s World.

This picture represents a four-decade plus of friends we have had during our 42-plus years of marriage.
Count your friends on one hand?
We would need two hands plus our feet to count all that we consider close friends!
These are the longest in that count.
Blessings to our life together have come in many ways – this is but one of them!

We have five grandchildren – FIVE girls and one Boy!
Today – the three oldest are adults –
Maddy – Ella and Sarah.
The three youngest are 14 – 14 and 10 – Taylor- Cassidy and Bode.
Being far away – they come down and we go back to where they live.
Another blessing in our life.

A picture of Ocean Isle Beach – in ten minutes we can be here from our house on the mainland –
crossing over the ICW!
In the middle of this picture is the park on the island.
From mid-May to the end of September –
Live open-air concerts are held free of charge.
Many different groups will take donations from the crowd –
supporting many area volunteer activities.
Free will offerings are a way to support their missions.
Sunset Beach is the other barrier island here –
And it is five more minutes away.
That also has free concerts that we attend.
Sunset Beach is Wednesday nights and OIB is Friday nights.
That is one “WHY” we moved her in 2021.
The “BEACH LIFE” – retirement dream!
Another blessing in our lives!

Have a sense of “HUMOR”! LOL!

A “GOOD THOUGHT” for the day!
WHO IS YOUR PURPLE?
Reach out – stay in touch – they are your PURPLE MARBLE in your life!

My hope is that today I will bring some “PICTURES” – “THOUGHTS” and “HUMOR” –
to start your day –

Just outside the little Swe3dish Community of Mount Jewett, Pa. –
Sits on a railway bridge built in the 1800s –
That at the time was considered the highest bridge of its kind-
310 feet high trestle bridge over what is known as THE KINZUA VALLEY –
li NWPA!
A Native American name for the area!
This bridge was built to get coal to Erie and Pittsburg!
The valley was so steep that a railroad down and up the other side –
just did not make sense!

It is now a state park with a fantastic museum showing construction and what it looked like-
Before the Tornado came through and took half of it down!
The down construction still lies on the valley floor and up the steep hillside-
just as it was the day it came down.
Today there is a viewing platform at the standing end –
That you can stand on structured glass and peer straight down 310 feet!
Of course, I have been out once or twice and even across the whole thing before it came down.
At one time there was a steam locomotive still carrying passengers across!

Here is the glass floor you can stand on –
Of course, I no longer venture out there as my fear of heights kicks in! LOL
I sit on the benches before the walkway and watch my friends – family, and others make the trip out!
But – I will say – now that it is a State Park –
If you are ever in the area – it is worth the visit –
and the Museum is a class act –
Even showing a video of that fateful day it all came down from the tornado!

The valley floor and yes there is a trail you can hike down and up the other side –
if you are in shape to do it! LOL
Here you see the twisted steel beams from the 1800s lying twisted on the valley floor!

Papa and Sherry are on OIB!

A milestone in our life together – reaching the senior year being 75 years old!
We also have been married for 43 years and together a year and a half before that!
Living life to the plus and living life one day at a time!
We also have moved South for the warmer climate and close to two beaches!
A dream we both have had since we first started dating!

We tend to enjoy every moment we can in our life together.
We keep busy – volunteering!
We are volunteers for the Protection of Sea Turtles on OIB!
We also volunteer at Coastal Living –
An assisted living home for seniors.
There are other things we do in volunteering –
This is our life now and has been since we were married.

While we do not do it daily – walking the beach – here is Sunset Beach Pier.
We like to walk here as it is flatter.
We also walk OIB –
both are minutes away from or home!

The town I grew up in – Eldred, Pa.
In the Alleghany mountains – six miles to the border of NYS!
This was Indian territory before the white man came –
It was the land of THE SENACA INDIAN ATION!

We both believe in this –
when we were married I converted from Catholic to Lutheran –
Sherry was raised as a Lutheran.
Our life together has always included church wherever we have lived!

In our married lives together we have celebrated many New Year’s Day together!
Looking forward to many more to come!

We cherish our armed forces and the rule and order of law.
The free speech and equality of men and women.
We live in what we feel is the greatest country on Earth.
GOD – FAMILY and COUNTRY!

PAPA’S WORLD – livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

In the morning routine, I have maintained for years – first I shower – along with the teeth – shaving, etc.
Then after getting dressed – it is now around 6am.
I go to the kitchen and make my cup of “COFFEE”!
Then it is onto my computer – reading emails – deleting and finally –
I read the Washington Post online – skipping what I did not want to read and reading other stories
and the sports section.
All the while as I sip my coffee – this is the only cup I drink for the day!
Recently – The Juice Plus Company released “LUMINATE”!
All are made from natural flavors from BERRY and MANGO
and flavored with other NATURAL FLAVORS!

The above ingredients of “LUMINATE” are low in calories!
Just a glass of water – around 8 oz.
Pour in the packet and stir until dissolved –
Then drink – I set a timer for 30 minutes to see if I could detect an “EFFECT”!
I sipped it until it was gone!
These are all plant-based ingredients-
And I did feel for me a more clear-headed – alert effect!
And it lasted for hours!

The above is what has been noted in this drink –
and I can say yes to the above.
NO GMO Ingredients – and it is GLUTTEN free!

Here is the glass of water and one packet poured in and mixed up to sip – and it tastes good!
If you would like to have this in your daily consumption –
Contact us at WWW.SFitzsimmons.JuicePlus.Com
Sherry and I have been distributors for the JUICE PLUS COMPANY for 18-plus years.

You can also contact me directly by email – fitztdf@aol.com
We can direct you to our website and help you maintain a healthy lifestyle as we have all these years!
And walk you through and answer questions –
THE JUICE PLUS COMPANY IS 30 PLUS YEARS OLD – and sold in over 20 countries Worldwide!

PAPA’S WORLD – “BEING ALERT” – LUMINATE!!!!!!!!!!
As members of the Volunteer Sea Protection program on Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. –
As a group, we made the journey to Hampstead, N.C. to the Sea Turtle Rescue Hospital.
Thirty to thirty-five members made the almost two-hour drive –
We were given the regular tour and because our group supports the hospital –
we were given a behind-the-scenes tour where we could not take any pictures.

At that time they had 89 Sea Turtles that had been recused and transported to the hospital/
There are 500 volunteers that work for the hospital –
350 who walk the beaches and 150 who actually work at the hospital.

This is a display of an actual Sea Turtle nest – so the public can see how the eggs are laid and covered back up by the adult Sea Turtle.

Above is a breakdown of garbage in the Oceans that the Turtles will eat as they swim.

Volunteers work with some of the Sea Turtles until they are well enough to be released back into the ocean.
They take them 40 or 50 miles out to release them.

THIS IS LENNIE – blind and a permanent resident of the hospital with a blunt force injury.

Vats and tubs containing various sizes of Sea Turtles –
This is all done with grants – fundraisers and gifts –
$100,000.00 a year to buy pallets of SALT for the water so they can survive.

Our volunteer group on OCEAN ISLE BEACH we have almost between 150 and 200 volunteers.

VISIT TO THE SEA TURTLE HOSPITAL.

Ginger and Sherry –
We have started playing golf with her and Jason-
They are gone from mid-May until the end of October –
They have a cottage in Maine and spend that time there.
They were friends back in NVA-
Where we also played golf –
They now live forty minutes away close to our other close friends – Buck and Cindy!
A POSITIVE THOUGHT BACK INTO OUR LIFE AFTER WE MOVED!

Waking up early each day is something that I just do.
Getting ready for the day takes less than thirty minutes for me in the bathroom.
Then I make my single cup of coffee –
Getting on my computer and reading the online newspaper of the Washington Post-
which I have done since we moved to NVA!
Before that, it was the Olean Times Herald back in WNY.
After I have read what I wanted to read –
It is at that time I start writing my daily blog!
Each day – is a new day and a different blog.
I do not know what I shall write but whatever it is –
I TRY TO KEEP IT POSITIVE with SOME HUMOR!
This all transpires over two to three hours.
By now it is my YouTube time –
Where I follow camping – motor homes – log cabins and off the grid!
Toss in Ancient Discoveries and some different parts of the World I would like to someday see!
THIS ACTIVITY GIVES ME POSITIVE AND HUMOROUS THOUGHTS DAILY!

Being a senior – I identify with this – but I smile also – keeping my humor intact and life Positive!

Dottie – Jim’s wife could not be here – but we have been friends for almost four decades!
A POSITIVE STABLE IN OUR LIVES!

Thanks for reading my blog: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog PAPA’S WORLD!
THOUGHTS – HUMOR – EVERYDAY POSITIVE!!!!!

I do not watch “NEWS PROGRAMS”!
I find them to be slanted one way or the other.
I read – and I tend to see the articles before I read them if they are one way or another.
I sort my reading –
I am interested in opposite views so I can determine what I believe to be fact.
COMMON SENSE guides me more often than not!

Our life revolves around the above.
We volunteer – we help others when we can.
Our church is important to us.
Our family is equally important.
We gather friends of different points of view –
But we also do not discuss those views.
Friendships are best when Politics –
and religion are best kept to themselves.

This is very true –
Happiness is your awareness.
Surround yourself with people who tend to spread joy!
Being thankful for all that you have –
And spend time with family and friends!

Have a sense of humor –
Looking at oneself –
and enjoy the smile and funny thoughts!

We keep a positive outlook – We try to do as much together as we can.
Our life down here on the border of N.C. and S.C. –
is where we choose to be.
Our senior years are more comfortable here in the warmth that it provides us.

Thank you for reading my blog-
PAPA’S WORLD-
my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

Every morning – six to seven AM.
I sit at my keyboard and write a blog –
This is a way for me to express myself without going Political!
It is a way to JOG my memory for family – friends and neighborhood –
and where are our senior years we have decided this is the place we shall stay in!
When I started this blog –
my whole effort was going to revolve around a day-to-day account of how we live our lives.
It also would become a daily journal for our future great-grandchildren and beyond to read someday!
You see – I have very few words and pictures from my side of the family except what I have as a memory!

This writing is for my sons from a previous marriage as well as my two stepdaughters!
Almost all the family I grew up with is now gone.
I have one great-niece and two great-nieces left plus their children.
Sherry and I had no children together –
But we have been married for almost 43 years –
and together a year and one half before that wedding day 6-25-1982!
Our whole wedding vows were based on THE CHURCH ON THE ROCK!
Our wedding vows were “ROCK SOLID”!

Those little things in life –
We both do them well-
and in turn –
It mostly takes care of the bigger things in life!
It comes naturally for both of us!
EQUALITY – my belief and hers also.
We share duties –
EXCEPTION – I AM TO STAY AWAY FROM THE WASHER AND DRYER! LOL
Dinner – lunch and breakfast we share –
Clean up and cleaning in general we both do.
Making the bed – both of us.
I do not like to dust so she does while I dust mop the floors.
In retirement now in OIB –
The lawn we pay to have mowed-
We both trim bushes and plant flowers.

Both of us have a deep understanding of this –
And I have always championed EQUALITY –
MEN AND WOMEN – WOMEN AND MEN –
BOTH EQUAL IN OUR MINDS!

The statue of the great women of our country –
It is not complete but a vacant spot left for the FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT!
That day in OUR MINDS will eventually come to be true!

I hope this POSITIVE BLOG brings good thoughts to you-
My intent is to provide humor – good thoughts –
To give future generations an idea of just who we are!

PAPA’S WORLD – WRITING A POSITIVE BLOG!

Papa – this picture was taken shortly after my Heart Attack
but before my FOUR BY-PASSES OPEN HEART SURGERY!
I really should not be here – I had a 100% blockage and three other partials!
I made it because in my mind I had changed my eating habits and “GONE HEALTHY”
Eight years before. The damage of slow arteries becoming clogged –
was 40 years in the making!
And in that journey – my wife convinced me to take a supplement –
which through research in major medical facilities worldwide –
showed that arteries could be opened by taking a combination of BERRIES!
I am convinced had I not changed – I would have died that day!
Today – ” IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE” ten plus years later!

Not only being gratefully for our lives in serving humanity – but literally for my HEART!
We continue our journey – walking every day – twice a week –
Tuesdays and Thursdays – at the Brunswick Senior Center –
Participating in “GERIFIT” for Seniors!
A 45-minute exercise class that goes on every second working on all your muscles
in your body and balance – strength and being flexible!
We eat as healthy as we can –
still, take our daily supplement of “FRUITS – VEGETABLES – BERRIES and OMEGAS”
ALL PLANT BASED!
It is truly “A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE”!

A little humor along with a great feeling!

Just being here knowing that the % of not being here was very large –
I beat death – I had the help of the one I love –
I shall always remember that.

Forty-two years ago she said yes – and then ten-plus years ago – with her help –
I beat death.
I am forever grateful.
Yes – today “IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE”!

PAPA’S WORLD – my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog
IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE!

We have what I consider many friends!
Some are closer than others –
but all are welcome to our home!
So – we choose to spend our time with those friends –
while also making new friends!
FAMILY is important to us also!
We built our last three homes with that in mind!
We have bedrooms and baths to accommodate those Families and friends!
And – in the over three years we have been in this home –
it has been filled up many times with those family and friends!
To us – that is LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME –
with Family and Friends!

Our family – friends
-friendly home in OIB!
We choose this model for a couple reasons.
It had three bedrooms ( but only two baths)
It has an enclosed office-
where we can put a blow-up mattress!
We have what is called a Sunroom –
with a pull-out Queen-sized bed!
We have another pull-out single couch mattress –
in our bedroom!
With all of those,
we can sleep ELEVEN –
and could use the couch for one more!
We also have an enclosed three-season room-
where a single blowup mattress could serve as a bed!
And important to me was the covered front porch-
that had shade most of the day!
The only downside –
was we could only get the two bathrooms with this model!
Thus our planning for building our home is LIVING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Sherry and I volunteer our time and services.
The Protection for Sea Turtles –
From mid-May to October –
We are at the beach –
either walking to report TURTLE CRAWLS and Nests –
To sit on the beach from 7pm. to 11pm.-
for those nests to hatch –
and making sure the little Sea Turtles make it to the ocean!
We also volunteer for Coastal Living –
A facility that has assisted living for the elderly!
Sherry helps with the monthly store for residents –
where they use their earned credits –
to purchase all types of items donated and clothing!
This gives them the feeling of shopping –
even though they are with walkers and wheelchairs.
I go in once a month –
and organize the Library –
making it easier to select books-
by saying mystery – western – romance, etc.
I also arrange the puzzles –
according to how many pieces there are –
most like the 300 as they are bigger pieces!
After Hurricane Helena hit WNC in the mountains –
We started donations –
and bought supplies
to be taken by locals by truck into the WNC mountains –
And then we hooked up with friends-
from Hickory, N.C. –
Who would purchase supplies –
Take them to the airport –
where small helicopters flew them into areas that could not be reached.
They also found ways to drive themselves-
into areas that needed assistance!
Together – we would send them donations to purchase supplies –
And we raised almost $4000.00!
This I call LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME!

View to the East from our front driveway!
I want to thank each and every one of you –
for following my BLOGS!

Belief in yourself is your “WHY” for a better life and feeling!
Confident – loving – happy – caring –
All can be free to yourself.
Feel the moment – engage your life – be you!!!!

Greet the day as the first day of your positive life!
I find that I read to keep my news fresh-
I can tell if it is going to be positive or not!
I CHOOSE POSITIVE in my life.
I also live my life one day at a time.
I keep a calendar –
I write things down to remember –
and I write POSITIVE FAMILY – FRIENDS BLOGS!

We enjoy getting together with long-time friends –
golfing is a way of relaxing for all of us!
Friendships are important in our life together –
as it also is with family!

FAMILY from Pa. –
Back where we were married 42 plus years ago.

Family from back in NVA-
Where in 2020 –
we made our move to OIB in N.C.

Family from NVA –
My good thoughts to all the family!

Something to make you smile and has a little bit of truth! LOL!

Thanks for reading – here is a good thought and a smile for me!

LOL – HUMOR to start your day!
Sunrise – white fluffy clouds or bright clear blue skies!
And yes – those grey skies and rain drizzle –
Stay in and snuggle up with a blanket –
Or sit on a chair or glider on your covered front porch ( like I do )-
and listen to the rain!

Gather your thoughts –
listen to your heart –
say hello and have a smile!
Your friends are what keep you thinking “HOW LUCKY AM I!”

Our nation – free –
where we work – live and die.
The USA – God Bless!

Sherry and granddaughter –
Spend quality time with the next generation!
They will remember and see in their minds who – what you were!

Life is full of “LITTLE THINGS”-
for it is those “LITTLE THINGS” that you do every day –
will take care of the “LARGER THINGS” in your life!

It is useless and only brings sadness or uncomfortable vibes!
In my case so as not to see their thoughts on “THINGS” –
I simply “UNFOLLOW” them!
My day is not spent on seeing the negative thoughts but living for the positive!

My hope is that this blog brings a sense of positive and humorous thoughts your way.
POSITIVE WRITINGS!

PAPA’S WORLD –

Growing up,
my grandmother lived with us,
and my grandmother’s name was Nora.
Her husband was named David,
and my middle name is David.
She was very old to me at the time –
I remember sitting on her lap on the front porch –
We watched a neighbor boy walking to school –
He was two years older than me –
I asked her when I would go to school?
Doing the math –
I must have been four years old!
Both my parents worked –
so she raised me along with my sister –
who was fifteen years older.
I had a bed in my parent’s room –
and she had a side bedroom.
My older brother,
ten years older than me,
had the front bedroom.
Eventually – she went to live with my aunt Alice.
At that time my younger brother came along –
and we were too much for her to handle.
We were like water and oil –
cat and dog!
He would look at me –
and let out a high-pitched scream –
and then I was in trouble.

My childhood after she left-
was spent looking up to my older brother –
he was my idol –
and at 18 he went off to college –
I moved into his bedroom at the front of the house –
overlooking the main street.
The early morning sun came through the windows –
and woke me up.
Funny – later in life I still wake up before dawn.
I would fall asleep listening to the cars –
and trucks going past on the main street-
and behind the house were the railroad tracks –
I would listen for the train –
blowing its whistle –
and then the “CLICK-CLICK” from the wheels as it came along the tracks.
But – those early years came with me-
being really close to Grandma.
She would cook huge pots of bean soup –
and we would eat them for days!
In her early years –
she was Pa. Dutch –
she and her mother traveled with the logging people-
She would cook the meals –
breakfast – lunch and dinner.
That was in the late 1800s – I believe she was born in 1885!
I do not know much about that period of her life –
Just that her maiden name was Schick (SP) –
and she had a sister –
who we called Aunt Emma –
and a brother we called Uncle Frank.
There may have been more but I do not remember.
They – like my father –
were what we called “DOWN HOMERS”-
Downstate Pa.-
In the Brookview and Corsica area.

My early life was shaped by Grandma –
I regret that she came –
and went so fast in my life.
She was 64 or so when I was born –
And she and grandpa David-
had a large family –
ELEVEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS!
My mother –
was second from the youngest and Allen was the youngest.
My Aunt Alice was third from the youngest –
who she went and lived with.
Grandpa died before I was born
and I have always thought –
that my middle name came from him!
He was a tall man – of Irish descent – 6’3″ I was told.
A generous man –
during the great depression –
He would take flour and meat to the neighbors to help them out!
They had a large farm back then.
All those kids – three girls and eight boys worked the farm with Grandpa.
Grandma at that time was done with the cooking for the loggers and ran the household!
He died from a Heart Attack while stringing up a hog to butcher!
The line of the family all had heart problems –
me included –
and my older brother.

Mary – my mother – Aunt Kate – she was tall like her father – not sure? Grandma ( Nora) –
Grandpa David – Clark – Aunt Alice – Uncle Allen.
Back row to the left – Uncle Roy – a veteran of WWI –
The boy’s names –
Jim – Sid – Elmer -Everett-
I am not sure about the rest-
as they were gone when I was young.
And I had never seen them this young!
Uncle Roy always came to the house dressed in a suit –
vest and tie and a wide-brimmed hat in his hands,
He was the oldest and survived WWI!
He had a wife named Hazel –
and I believe still lived somewhere Down Home!
Most of the others –
made their way to WNY –
and the Wellsview area –
except Mom – Alice and Allen who lived near Eldred.
Aunt Kate and Uncle Clint also remained DOWN HOMERS –
and had a large farm.
My earliest memory of her is a HUGE BLACK BULL with horns in a barn stall!
Scared the crap out of me!
There were many cousins –
but I was like a second family that came along –
everyone was ten to twenty-five or more years older than I was.
I want to thank Jody Peterson –
my cousin’s son who posted this picture to FaceBook!
I had never seen it!
He is the grandson of my Aunt Alice.

I believe I take more after my mother’s side of the family – they all were broad chests –
curly hair –

Our granddaughter – Ella – Has completed her Senior year of college and playing soccer.
Through the years she suffered serious injuries –
From fractured bones in her feet- Twice-
To a leg injury between her Sophomore year and her senior season.
This caused many pain-filled days and nights-
but she just soldiered on and continued playing!
Today she can take that positive attitude and think back –
She did and will be a good teacher to young students as she continues her teaching career!
A POSITIVE LOOK INTO POSITIVE THOUGHTS IN THIS BLOG!

Last summer – Hurricane Helena blasted Western North Carolina!
We started taking cash donations over our Facebook posts and word of mouth.
We reached out to friends – family, and neighbors and got a rewarding response.
We collected almost $4000.00 and that started our road to support organizations that collected supplies!
Along the way – some H.S. friends of Sherry contacted us as they saw what we were doing.
They lived in Hickory, N.C. –
about five miles to the airport that serviced the small helicopters that would fly in supplies!
This allowed us to pay for supplies they bought and either took to the airport or drove into the mountains-
to distribute them to needy families and communities!
This was a win-win for us and those people in need.
A POSITIVE ACTION TO HELP AND MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO DONATED AND HELPED!

A little HUMOR!

Sharing time with my youngest son Shawn –
who is a ranked pool player in both Canada and the USA.
A POSITIVE TIME FOR US IN VISITS FROM MY FAMILY WHO LIVE SO FAR AWAY!

In today’s world of unrest –
My blogs are aimed at being POSITIVE!
A morning sunrise sets the tone for me!
I try to leave out all politics –
and focused on the positive side of life-
as we know it.
We volunteer –
we help out where and when we can.
We also are in our senior years –
both being 75 years old –
and living in the comfort –
of our own home-
And in a climate that feels good for both of us.
We golf –
mostly with friends-
but sometimes just by ourselves.
We are family –
having all of them visiting us at one time or another.
So – we choose to have a house where we can maintain it-
but big enough –
one level –
with sleeping arrangements for them to be comfortable.

Our family from NWPA –
they have been to see us a couple of times.
So –
it was important for us to be able to have them stay with us!

In our home –
we also entertain friends –
having room for all of them to stay!
Golfing – laughing –
and seeing movies and shows –
in the area of our new home!

Our family that we left back in NVA-
We can expect family –
to at least visit at different times –
two to three times a year!
Friends at least the same visits!

The world that we have made –
reflects what you see here!

This is our life –
trying to make a positive impact –
on those surrounding us!

Thank you for reading my blogs –
and I hope that I can make it today-
a POSITIVE DAY for you!

Healthy – being a senior and age as well as we can.
Sharing that knowledge –
Looking out for others and standing up for beliefs!

HUMOR – wish I liked wine –
I tend to drink a light beer every now and then!
For the most part –
one cup of coffee in the morning –
And water the rest of the day!

Living in NVA for 20 years – we became Washington Commanders fans!
We lived five miles from their headquarters and practice fields!
Many times in the season –
I would take a half-day vacation and go to those fields!
I could see players and coaches up close.
These are memories I shall always cherish from the past!

Six years ago – the day Maddy signed her letter of intent – to play soccer at –
The University of Lynchburg!
In her career, she made the all-conference third teams –
All-conference second teams.
And in her final senior year captain.
They won their way into the NCAA nationwide tournament two out of the four years.
Memories that will last the rest of my life!

The day we took Bode and Taylor by Metro into D.C. –
And visited the museum and THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE!
A replicate of the nation’s WHITE HOUSE!
Here is Taylor sitting at the President’s desk –
And Bode and MORMOR at the chairs for visitors!
I am sure that as well as I –
they will have this as a lifetime memory!

The little girl who since she was three years old-
loves Horses!
Today – she spends all her spare time at the barn!

Taylor rubbed the horse down before going out to the corral.
She would do this every day if allowed.

Taylor – creating lifetime memories!

Before we moved South – we golfed locally –
It was not unusual to have deer on the course with us!
A lifetime memory!

Today we are living in our sixth home together –
The last three we have had built!
We are in the warmth of the South making dreams come possible.
A lifetime of memories with our last home –
Here we shall be –
making more memories!

A memory we shall have as we grow older!

PAPA’S WORLD – LOOKING BACK – SOME MEMORIES!

Ten years ago –
he was the first grandson to be born from Sherry’s two daughters!

Five granddaughters and then one grandson – Bode came along –
Today he is ten years old –
Plays soccer and flag football.
Is starting to golf with his father –
Marcus seen here in this picture!

His first trip to a barber shop!
Riding bikes – scooters –
Playing games on his laptop.
A big fan of the Commanders the Nationals and the Capitals.
Loves World Cup soccer!

Being the only boy –
and fitting in with the five granddaughters is a challenge for him.
Taylor and Cassidy are his twin sisters –
he is more like Cassidy than Taylor –
But when I asked him-
when they start driving –
who he would go with-
and “TAYLOR” was his answer!
Bode and Cassidy are so much alike that they should have been twins!

Taylor and Bode the day we took them on the Metro into D.C.
Cassidy did not want to go –
and had other things she was doing!

Here Taylor is 14 years old and almost 5’8″ –
Taking after her “MORMOR” –
Sherry who is almost 5’10”.
I think Bode will be taller than all of the grandkids!

Maddy on the far right is 5’6″ –
While Sarah – left- and Ella – center –
are almost 5’10”!

Cassidy – center – is now catching up – she is 5’6″ –
A gymnast and a cheerleader –
Who also sings and dances in plays!

The little boy is growing up fast –
here he is at his 10th. birthday!

The year was 1989 – we had played competitive volleyball for several years!
Here we are – Papa – Sherry –
Steve – Elaine – Debbie –
Steve – Chris and Mike.
Now this was not backyard volleyball –
this was protect yourself-
or get your face smashed!
There were 16 teams –
all had players from a two-county area.
Many – many traveled for tournaments –
across NYS and Pa.
We had a competitive team for three years –
Then in 1989 –
we finally won!
We became close friends with Steve and Elaine-
Raising our families together.
Portville, N.Y. –
is where we lived –
and they did too!
We also golfed together –
in those early days.
And they have visited us once since we moved here –
They still live in Portville.

We often played a scramble –
Sherry and Steve vs Elaine and me.
In a way,
this was even more competitive than the volleyball!
They were our first friends –
after we were married on 6-25-1982!
Hoping this summer they can schedule their vacation this year-
to come and see us.
Steve retired in November!

I believe this to be the Kane Country Course –
back home in Pa.
Close to where Sherry grew up-
in Mount Jewett, Pa.
We have many memories of them,
their children,
and our combined family.
Long-time friends –
ELAINE and STEVE!

PAPA’S WORLD – GOOD VIBES AND HUMOR!

Having good thoughts and a positive outlook in this climate –
Keeps one on an even keel!

Knowing the history of the DC area –
keeping in mind of those who came before us-
This brings me to a good thought –
Respect those who came before!

LOL – some humor for the day!

In my old age – this just might be true!!! LOL

Laugh at at what this means – being a senior I can identify!

This is the KINDRED SPIRIT mailbox!
It exists on the far western end of Sunset Beach –
About a mile and one-half walk from the pier-
Put here by a hippie couple four or five decades ago!
Today it is maintained by volunteers.
Inside is a journal you can write in.
As the journals fill –
another is placed as a replacement.
Worth the stroll down the beach –
a place of solitude-
a place to write your memories or thoughts!
THE KINDRED SPIRIT MAILBOX!

My hope is that this blog will bring some good things into your lives.

For over 14 years – we got to watch Ella play soccer –
Travel – H.S. and then college.
She produced so much joy for us in watching her grow into a young woman.
Today – that is my GOOD THOUGHT!

Yes – I voted for President Reagan –
This comment from him is why,
in my mind,
he reflected a feeling I had and I voted for him.
Another good thought for the day!

We try as much as we can-
to help other people-
volunteering is our way of life.
A good thought for the day!

Humor – smiles and laughing –
bring a calm feeling to my life.
HUMOR FOR THE DAY!

Cassidy – how can you not smile at this!!!!!
MY SMILE FOR THE DAY!

This past year –
we celebrated both of us turning 75!
I guess that is a good thought –
We still are here! LOL

Taylor is at the barn getting a bit ready for her horse.
Ask her if she loves being in the barn and she says YES!
She rides once a week but any spare time she has –
She is at the barn – cleaning stalls – brushing down the horses!

Here she got the horse out of the stall, attached the bit, and brushed it down!
She loves this –
It doesn’t bother her with the smell or cleaning the stalls!

After placing the saddle on –
she walks the horse around the fenced-in yard.
She talks to the horse who has not been ridden in a couple weeks.
Soon – they trusted each other!

Now they walk as one – around and around the corral!
This went on for a good fifteen minutes!

Now it is the time she has been waiting for
The riding lesson –
walking and then trotting around and around and jumping!
Our granddaughter is a full-fledged horsewoman!

Taylor – her thoughts turn to the barn and the horses whenever she has free time!
Her first ride was when she was about four years old!
Someday she yearns to own her own horse!

Just another memory of PAPA’S WORLD –

A trip with two of our grandchildren to Washington, D.C. –
A memory they will have and one to cherish for us!

All these years of watching Ella ( #10) play soccer, she is now done.
She will graduate from Randolph College with two degrees –
And will teach Elementary studies, Phys Ed.
A memory we shall have and one for her the rest of her life!

We live by this – helping others as we can – making lifetime Memories!

Fami;y time – visiting us – making memories to last!
Hoping for more in the future!

Taylor – our granddaughter – LOVES horses –
any free time she has is spent at the “BARN”!

Even though it only is to clean the stalls –
She will spend all day there!
Memories of her lifetime!

We have almost lifetime friends –
we get together every four months or so-
We create memories –
have fun – golf and laughs!
Making memories for life.

Two of my oldest friends – Buck – Jimmy and me!
Playing softball in the 70’s with Jimmy –
Living next door to Buck in the late 80’s –
Creating a lifetime of memories!

I hope you enjoyed my memories from the past –

This blog is about our granddaughter Ella – in her senior year at Randolph College!
She was so little when she first tied up her cleats that we called her “TINY”!
She was about four to five years old.
Her older sister had been playing since she was four years old.
During those early years – she suffered many injuries to her feet.
Turned ankles – small bones broken when she was stepped on by cleats.
But – while on crutches – she still attended the games and cheered them on.

After travel teams and graduating from H.S. –
she was recruited to Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va.
Her older sister played across town at the University of Lynchburg and was a player in her own right!
Ella became the first Freshman to start and play every minute of her games that Freshman year.

Here are the three granddaughters-
Sarah on the left – Ella and Maddy on the right.
She no longer was “TINY”!
Growing into a 5′ 9″ power-playing midfielder!

She became a captain in her Sophomore year –
And met her sister at midfield when Maddy was a senior!
That year they played against each other on the pitch.
She played every game and almost every minute.

Ella and her close friends through the years from the team
Then – after the season was over and in the Spring of her Sophomore year-
The unthinkable happens – in their round-up practice –
She inadvertently stepped on the ball and pain shot up and down her leg!

Her oldest friends from H.S.
She was in so much pain she couldn’t sleep.
Then was when a very long process began –
Doctors – Xrays – PT – MRI – endless doctor visits – traveling to Hospitals –
It was devastating to her – crutches –
And no one had answers.
She still was captain in her Junior year –
But her time was limited.

The pain soon became normal –
Ice packs on her knee even though there was no tear.

Her family and friends stood by her –
A PT she knew in Lynchburg started deep massages on her leg and it helped.
Now it is her senior year – and another freak step –
this time her knee.
She was determined to go forward –
playing time came less and less and the pain more so than ever.

Here she is on her SENIOR day – knee wrapped but she played.
She is a trooper.
Her first two years showed so much promise – but the last two were memories she hoped to forget.

Ella – standing after the game – her knee wrapped in ice.
Her cheering section could be heard the entire game.
The season is over –
She will graduate with two degrees!
What could have been – wasn’t to be –
but this young lady taught us all a lesson.
STRIVE TO MEET YOUR GOALS – PLAY TO ACHIEVE THEM –
and when the odds are against you –
know that you gave all and in the minds of those who love you –
YOU SUCEEDED!

PAPA’S WORLD – ELLA’S SENIOR GAME DAY!

In October – we were back in NVA.-
at our daughter’s house.
We asked the three grandkids if they wanted to take the Metro –
And ride it into D.C. to walk-
and go to the Natural History Museum?
Two of the three decided to go –
and the third chose to not go-
because she had cheerleading practice!

Before we went to the Museum –
We decided to stop at the new “PEOPLES HOUSE” –
This is a replicate of THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE.
It also has many interactive screens-
and videos to use and see!
It gives an accurate history of occupation from its inception!

In this section,
you can touch the screens or pictures –
and they come alive-
Giving you information on the history of THE WHITE HOUSE-
All the way from its first occupants to the present.
Here – Sherry – Taylor and Bode learn all about “THE PEOPLES HOUSE”!

Here Sherry and Taylor sit at a table –
all set for dinner as if they are in a state dinner function.

Here Bode sits at another table –
the whole room seems like you are part of the dinner!

Sherry is to the right,
and Taylor is the president at the desk!

Bode at the president’s desk
This was all so real –
and exactly as it is in the WHITE HOUSE!

If you are in DC –
take to tour –
it costs nothing –
but you can make a donation.
There are two floors of interactive exhibits-
you can participate in!

PAPA’S WORLD – “THE PEOPLE’S HOUSE”!

What started as a two- or three-month rental turned into nine months!
We had sold our home in NVA. and moved to North Myrtle Beach to this condo in Ocean Keyes-
Simply because after 6 weeks – we could not find anything we liked enough to purchase –
so we decided to build across the border of N.C. in Ocean Isle Beach in the community of Cameron Woods.
So – we extended the rental by three months and then another three months!

These two pictures were the views we had from our large lanai on the top fourth floor with two
elevators – three bedrooms and two baths.
A kitchen – dining room and living room and this huge lanai with two glass sliding doors –
one from the living room and one from the master bedroom.
There was a table and chairs – four rocking chairs and “THE VIEW” of a lake
with six water fountains – and we could not see the end of the lake.
We had two swans that would be all over the lake.
There were 750 condos and six swimming pools in the gated community –
a tennis court and a workout building.
walking through the community –
in one-half mile we were standing on the sand of NMB – and right on the main street.

The Swans were on the lake every day and there were times they took off and flew straight at us and zoomed at the last moment right over our lanai.
I could stand up on the lanai and look straight down and see huge fish –
there were otters and ducks and geese.
Never saw any gators and was told they had removed them as this at one time was a golf course.

At the far end toward the Ocean out of sight of our condo – a bench – three white ducks – always together-
and I named them HUEY – DEWIE and LOUIE!
Where one went the other two followed.
Often I would walk here from the condo and sit and watch the Swans and Ducks and Geese –
a couple times I observed small water snakes – and tons of little ducks and geese.

One of the two fountains I could not see from our lanai – small ducks and large ones –

PAPA’S WORLD – “THE PEOPLES HOUSE”!

While we lived in the Washington, D.C. area –
we made many trips to the baseball park to watch the Nationals play and the World Series in 2019!

We always enjoyed these games but it did get hot sitting there – so much so that at times we would
get up and go back into the shade!
REMEMBERING THE PAST!

My two sons – Troy on the left and Shawn on the right –
far away but close to our hearts!
REMEMBERING THE PAST!

The Metro station was only a few miles from our home in Brambleton, Va.
This is a suburb of Ashburn and on the back side of the Dulles Airport.
Countless times we boarded the Metro for a day trip into D.C and began our walking – exploring.
Here is one of the many flowering gardens and trees in the late springtime-
in Washington, D.C.
REMEMBERING THE PAST!

When we moved we wanted to golf as it was costly to golf in NVA.
Here we live among 30 golf courses and our friends live 40 minutes away.
We often get together to play 18 and always is a fun time.

PAPA’S WORLD – REMEMBERING THE PAST!

In October 2024 – we were in NVA at our daughter’s house-
We asked all three grandkids if they wanted to journey into D.C. –
on the METRO LINE!
Cassidy said no-
as she had cheerleading practice –
But Taylor and Bode were excited and –
we were off!
Here we just boarded the Silver Line in Ashburn –
About five miles from where we previously lived!

On our way,
we passed through the DULLES AIRPORT –
This was one of the stops.
So convenient if you are traveling by plane!
The grandkids were eying it all!

The ride in was a little over an hour long –
But so glad we did this as parking in D.C.-
was almost non-existent!
At each stop they could see where we were –
and then under the river!
We never had to depart –
except once when the bathroom was needed –
and we got right back on!
This section of the METRO was not open when we moved-
Although it had been built!

After the SILVER LINE METRO LINE ride –
Standing on the street of Washington, D.C. with Taylor – Sherry, and Bode!

think back to the dogs we have had and when I was growing up – dedication – always wagging
their tails and licking your hands – unconditional love from them!

Marriage is having a sense of humor – kindness – caring and loving – plus much more!

Self-esteem – remember – SMILES ARE FREE!

PAPA’S WORLD – GOOD THOUGHTS – HUMOR and SMILES!

Bode and Taylor at the History Museum in Washington, D.C.
We ventured by Metro into D.C.-
with the two of them –
We walked and walked –
Showing them the sights.
We did this while living nearby for twenty years –
with family and friends!

They were so excited –
and not once did they complain!

Bode was fascinated with life thousands of years ago.
He was full of questions-
and Taylor had most of the answers! LOL

These are some of the pictures Taylor took!
There is so much to see –
and little time to spend.
We need to go back for a week –
and take in something different each day.

This was such a learning experience for both of them!

Big sister-
little brother –
something they shall remember for a lifetime.

BODE – RANDOM PICTURES AT THE HISTORY MUSEUM – WASHINGTON, D.C.

Sherry – Taylor and Bode at the entrance –
This was our goal –
and they were so excited!

While they were here many years ago –
They did not remember it!

Exploration covered many flights of stairs-
they looked around in awe-

They just looked and read and looked some more!

Taylor was fascinated by the skeletons of horses and turtles.

They could not get over just how big these must have been!

We spoke to a man who said he was from the area where they discovered all these skeletons in.
He had spent much time there and knew the people who work the fossils!
We then headed upstairs to the HOPE DIAMOND-
Which they had never heard of!

Here they saw many gems of famous origin.

THE HOPE DIAMOND!

Then onto more discoveries –
they were excited to see what was beyond the next corner.

As we wandered through the displays –
they were in awe-
Sherry and I decided next time we would come multiple days and see one section at a time!

One last glance over the balcony –
before we went to another section –
My next blog will have the rest!
PAPA’S WORLD –

While taking a trip back to NVA in October –
We had an agenda for the week that included taking the grandkids to DC.
Cassidy chose not to go but Bode and Taylor were so excited.
The plan is to get on the Metro at the last stop close to where they lived in Ashburn.
And then ride it to where we wanted to get off without changing lines!

It was a bright sunny day – cool to start but warming us fast!

We were trying to get close to the White House –
But as you can see here –
It was all blocked off and this was as close as we could get!
Then we heard it before we saw it!
The President’s helicopter was taking off!

I snapped this picture just before it disappeared behind the trees.
We have no idea who was on board –
but it surprised the grandkids as it did us!

We turned around from where we were standing –
and this is the view we had of the Washington Monument!

We made our way onto the lawn of the mall –
the grass was lush and green.

Here we stopped and captured Taylor in front of the capital!

And I turned around and captured Bode with the Washington Monument in the background!

We continued across the green lawn of the Mall!

Looking toward the Smithsonian building –
before making our way to the Museum of Natural History.

Gazing at the Executive Office Building –

We had arrived after walking the streets of Washington, DC.
The next blog continues with us touring the museum.

In our senior years – we dreamed of living near a beach – I used to say “I wanted to retire and sell hot dogs on the beach”!!!!
Well – I no longer wish to do that – “I RETIRED AND NOW I WANT TO BUY A HOT DOG ON THE BEACH”!!!

When retirement came – we were living in NVA and that was to be our retirement home –
We could either drive or take the Metro into D.C. – which we often did as guides for our visitors.
But – The 401k went way down – however, the house’s value went way up!
Time to cash out – and head South to warmer weather – and the beach!
I’m going to be able to buy that HOTDOG on the BEACH!

And another dream – to play golf – we live near 30 golf courses – all within one-half hour!
We love to golf – we had played competitive Volley Ball in our 30’s to early 40’s –
and decided to take up golf!
Playing in NVA was expensive – here we purchased the FIRST TEE CARD!
It gives us a substantial discount on 52 courses!
So golf has become a way of our dream senior living!

Warm weather – beautiful fall days – skies to die for – living in the South – no more ice and snow.
Moving South – all the family has visited numerous times.
Walking in the sunshine on the beach – senior living and senior dreams.
