Papa’s World – Lunch at Blue Drum – Little River – ICW.

One of the many explorations we make is new establishments on the ICW!

Blue Drum is one of them – having opened in late May or early June.

When the family was here – we had a pontoon boat and we stopped in there for lunch –

tying up at their dock.

You can sit here under umbrellas or under a roof near the bar.

When we were here before we sat down where these people were sitting – using two tables –

this time we sit under the roof near the bar and the restaurant with seating inside.

We had the perfect view of boats coming by in both directions and enjoying the breeze off the ICW!

The food is very good – I had Beef Tips in gravy over rice!

The order Sherry had was Mac-Cheese- and Lobster bits.

Our lunchtime bill – mid twenty’s with drinks! Not bad!

Our view directly in front of us – with the docks for the visiting boaters – it was really comfortable under the shade of the porch deck!

PAPA’S WORLD – LUNCH AT BLUE DRUM – LITTLE RIVER, S.C. ON THE ICW!

Papa’s World – Before the storm – looking for shells!

The day was beautiful in the morning – but later that day a storm was coming!

So – we decided to go to Vareen Gardens – on the state line of N.C and S.C.

Sherry wanted some shells for a project she was doing!

We are so close to two beaches but the shell hunting is better than a few others! Here is our beach – OIB!

Our destination is Vaneer Gardens right along the coast of the ICW – recently on our day with family

on a pontoon boat – we passed right by here!

No shoes – no socks – just shorts – shirts and sandals for wading in the water!

This area is loaded with Oyster Shells and that is what she was looking for – tons of them!

Papa – looking at shells people have signed and some are hung from the tree here!

We found what she needed and then headed back home just as the storm rolled in!

The storm is approaching – thunderstorms here are terrific – lightning – thunder and sometimes downpours!

This day – we enjoyed the early morning beach and then a trip to Vareen Gardens – found shells and returned home and then the storm hit!

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

PAPA’S WORLD – BEFORE THE STORM – SEARCHING FOR SHELLS at VAREEN GARDENS, LITTLE RIVER-S.C.

Papa’s World – OIB open-air concert near the beach!

Not us! We explore – we look for things to do and things to see!

Our view from our chairs at OIB park – just a short block from the beach – every Friday night during the Summer season – a free concert for the public – this one featured BLACKWATER –

A local ( Sunset Beach) eight-member band playing classic rock and BEACH MUSIC!

The concert starts at 6:30 pm. but people start putting their chairs down long before that – here we are at 5:30 pm. it is already more than half full with empty chairs.

We managed to squeeze in this spot and saved two more spaces for our neighbors Diane and Steve.

Papa – Steve – Diane and Sherry – and behind us is the crowd – and just as significant to the right and left of us!

We can attend an open-air concert like this almost every night of the work week as most towns around us have them on different nights.

Diane and Steve danced the night away to classical rock music. Carolina Beach Music is also performed.

On Wednesday night, open-air music is at Sunset Beach Park, where we often go.

At the end – we just sit and talk letting the crowd disperse and usually only a few dozen people are left sitting!

The nights are warm and you can watch the setting sun in the western sky.

Or take a walk to the beach and sit and talk.

Thank you for reading PAPA’S WORLD – my site: livinglifedoingitmyway.blog

SHERRY – OPEN-AIR CONCERT NEAR THE BEACH IN OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C.

Papa’s World – before it gets HOT – early morning OIB – sitting on the beach!

It has gotten HOT – 90 plus degrees – high humidity – no rains – BEACH TIME!

We do our morning Turtle Beach Patrol at 6am.

We also pick up garbage on the beach – and are done between 7 and 7:30 am.

We decided to go back home and return by 8:30 for a couple hours of early morning beach time before it gets really hot!

No one is here at that time in the morning – and walking down to the pier and beyond in the surf – the water was warm – our dream-salt life!

Looking in the other direction you can see hardly anyone is here! SOLITUDE!

Feet in the sand – sitting under an umbrella – taking it easy in retirement – one day at a time!

Under the umbrella – BEFORE IT GETS HOT – EARLY MORNING ON OIB – SITTING ON THE BEACH!!!!!!

Papa’s World – strange discovery while on Turtle Patrol.

Sherry and I signed up to walk the East end of OIB during the TURTLE SEASON and report and nests we should find.

On this section of OIB – there are no houses – only sand and surf for about one mile!

A great place to walk – hearing only the surf and some birds.

We walk all the way to the point and a little around it toward the ICW side.

Just before the point, we came upon this sight – a chair with a pair of pants draped over the back – a waterproof shoe in the surf – tackle boxes all open – a battery with jumper cable hooked up –

fishing poles and a pole holder for the poles.

STRANGE – no one around!

And then around the corner out of sight – two fishing poles in their holders – bait on but laying in the sand and no one around except a boat with a man standing on it!

It was a deputy with a badge and he ask me if this was my stuff!

I told him no and around the corner was the chair and tackle boxes and more poles and I held up the shoe and said we found this also.

He told me to just place the shoe by the pole which I did and he got on his walkie-talkie to the police department.

He thanked us and said he would take care of it.

The chair and all the equipment just sitting on the beach and no one was around!

We continued our TURTLE WALK – not seeing any signs and went back to our car!

On the way back two police trucks and an ATV passed us going toward the chair and poles.

Also – our walk time is spent picking up trash off the beach and then report in what we see as far as signs of turtles!

Sherry is about to throw our trash collection away from our TURTLE BEACH PATROL!

COMMENTS WELCOMED!

Papa’s World – From Lake Holiday to Cameron Woods – family vacation.

Our daughter – Debby and husband Mike – Sherry – papa – Ella – Maddy and Sarah – from NVA!

They came and spent nearly a week with us in Cameron Woods Community- N.C.

We had planned this for a couple months – and as always – tears when they left!

Mike – Steve – Sherry and Diane – both neighbors and friends – came along with us on the ICW!

Sherry had attended a fundraiser for the food pantry put on by our church.

She purchased $20.00 in tickets and her name was drawn twice –

once for breakfast at a dinner and the second time as the winner of a 9-hour day on the ICW

with a PONTOON BOAT!

Mike – Steve and myself piloted us down and back up the ICW stopping at the new place to eat on the ICW-

THE BLUE DRUM! We had a great lunch and fun time boating.

On the way back – we stopped on the back side of Bird Island – where boats pull up to the beach and you hang out on the beach!

Papa – Mike and Steve stand on the ICW beach and watch a very large boat that had just come up the channel from the ocean and passed where we had beached the pontoon boat!

Maddy looked out over the cove on the backside of OIB at OIB FISH COMPANY where stopped for drinks and appetizers.

We spent two days on the beach – one day on the boat and two days at the pool.

We took them on our Turtle Patrol walk at sunrise on the East end of OIB.

Sunrises – sounds of the beach – birds – waves and the start of a new day!

Golfing for us is just getting out in nature – fresh air and green grass and if possible – sights along the ICW!

Learn to laugh when playing golf -have a good time – and just enjoy the moment!

Papa’s World – Through the years – our life!

June 25th. 1982 – our wedding day – Papa and Sherry

We dated a little over a year before we got engaged and then a year later married.

We both were married before – she had two daughters – I had two sons – and we had each other.

We lived way out in the country – the driveway was 1/10th of a mile long –

great in winter to sled ride.

That first year I mowed everything by hand – it took five days!

And then – rest for two and start over again – we bought a riding mower!

On marriage was based on the Church on the rock-solid!

Those early years were lean years – combining two sets of kids –

running back and forth – very little extra money –

but we survived and to this day look back fondly on all those times.

We always traveled by van – all of us.

We would pack breakfast – lunch, and dinners – take adventures –

the kids loved it.

Camping – in tents – visiting friends.

Then the kids started leaving one by one.

Marriages – moving – college – our family was just the two of us.

We started to travel – the country and the world

The kids were gone – we had moved from the country and into town.

Now – the house was empty and we had the opportunity to transfer to NVA.

We went to NVA and the daughters and family followed us.

We bought and sold three houses in NVA.

My sons stayed in Pa.

But – it seemed like the extended family all moved to NVA.

Retirement came – and once again – we thought of selling and moving farther south.
We made the move in 2020 – and today we are in OIB, Cameron Woods, N.C.

The family stayed in Pa. and Va. – her sister is building a small condo near us.

The family has visited us many times – my sons are coming end of summer.

Forty years have passed since that wedding day – and we still are one and going strong.

Dottie and Jim came to our wedding some 41 years ago!

We met Cindy and Buck through Dottie and Jim.

We ended up being neighbors to Cindy and Buck before they moved to Wilmington, N.C.

Dottie and Jim later moved to Va. Beach – Jim – Sherry and I all worked for Dal-Tile!

Papa – Buck – Jim – Jim and I played softball together in the mid-70s and worked together at American Olean Tile in Olean, N.Y. Now Dal-Tile.

PAPA and ELLA – now a junior in college! YEARS GONE BY – FAMILY AND FRIENDS – PAPA’S WORLD.

Papa’s World – Eagle in the neighborhood – Sunrise on our Turtle Watch on the OIB!

Good day everyone – in late afternoon after being out and about – a neighbor posted she had an Eagle sitting up in a dead tree just up the street!

So we drove past our home and went to the end of the street and sure enough – the EAGLE was there!

We have seen Eagles here and in the surrounding areas since moving here.

What a magnificent bird!

This is one I can tell – it was only a few days ago! LOL

We have signed up for TURTLE WATCH BEACH PATROL!

We are on the beach by 6:00 AM.

We have an area a little over one mile one way in an East Direction and have to look for Turtle tracks or crawl!

We have instructions and numbers to call and we also watch for beach erosion and record and take pictures of it and let them know right away.

Sherry and another walker – we have orange shirts with Turtle Patrol on them to identify who we are – along with a parking pass in case our car is checked by the police.

We can not park illegally and must obey all laws.

Notice the bag – we also collect garbage and trash on the beach.

First light on the East End of OIB in N.C. A pod of Dolphins followed along the coast as we walked!

SUNRISE ON OIB EAST END – WALKING THE BEACH ON TURTLE WATCH PATROL! PAPA’S WORLD!

Papa’s World – In my youth – Lassie – Lincoln logs – growing up in the ’50s!

Good day everyone – thanks for reading!

My brother and I got for Christmas one year – stuffed Lassie dogs!

This dog went to bed with me every night – my comfort stuffed toy.

I know for a while before that – I had a blanket – strange how I remember that.

That was back when my grandma took care of me during the day as both my mom and dad worked.

Here is what the Lassie of my brother looked like.

Mike’s Lassie was a lighter color and mine was darker.

His also was not as curly as mine.

I do not remember any names we called them other than LASSIE!

This is what my Lassie looked like – darker and curly!

We did not fight over who’s was who – as we both knew.

After Mike was out of the crib in my parent’s room –

he moved into my room and we shared a double bed –

My older brother was still home and my grandma went to live with my aunt.

I had her old room.

Lassie became an important part of my life for years that I remember.

I often wonder as the grandkids came along

and they had their favorite stuffed animal –

what became of the two Lassies.

I know they were still there long after we had moved on to our own lives.

I had a Lincoln Log set just like this one.

This was my favorite toy – I would sit for hours in the living room in front of the gas furnace –

with these logs spread out – building a fort

and using the little log connectors as a cowboy or Indian.

That was when Hop Along Cassidy was on TV and Roy Rogers.

And of course all the Westerns – Indians attacking wagon trains or forts.

The Lincoln Log set.

Many a winter day I spent on the floor playing –

Mike never played with them –

He was four years younger and had his own toys.

The TV was also there – an old black and white – and one of the first shows I remember was –

COMMANDER TOM

This was a Buffalo show – as most of our programing came from there.

Romper Room – I Love Lucy and The Three Stooges.

The Red Skelton Show and the Ed Sullivan show.

And wrestling – Diamond Jim Brady – Fritz Von Eric – The Gallagher Brothers

Haystack Muldune – The Claw that you grabbed someone’s stomach and squeezed!

Rocketship 7 and Dave Thomas out of Buffalo N.Y.

My next blog will continue growing up in the ’50s.

Papa’s World – Walking OIB to see the sunrise!

The sun creeping above the horizon on Ocean Isle Beach – GOOD MORNING!

Our Monday morning walking group decided to walk the beach instead of the park – to see the sunrise!

In the middle we had our daughter Tammy and her son Bode along with us to walk – she also chose to run as did Bode!

Tammy along with Sherry and Bode walking and looking for shells – you can just see Bode as he is shell hunting!

Only eight years old – he got out of bed and came with us as we left the house at 6:15 am.

Standing before a beach castle someone made above the surf line – Bode – who also ran with his mother!

The sky turns orange over the water as the Sun rises!

Papa’s World – The MAZE at Sunset Beach!

We have what everyone calls THE MAZE MAN – who starting in the Spring – creates MAZES on Sunset Beach near the 13th. street!

He creates the by hand and free to the people on the beach to walk and solve!

They are really big and you walk them from a starting ENTRANCE point to the end EXIT point!

there is only one way to make it through to the exit and requires several attempts most times and sometimes you can not find the way out!

Here our granddaughter Taylor is on her way to solving the MAZE!

That would be me in the woods – rabbits have nothing to fear from me!

The MAZE is a fun activity to keep exuberant grandkids occupied! LOL

We decided after Pickle-ball – to take a walk on the beach – hardly anyone there!

It was a nice warm walk in the sun.

Product of my life in the ’60s! LOL

The beach was empty – which surprised me because as we walked it got warmer!

OIB pier – a look out south to the ocean – the beaches here face south! Curveture of the coastline!

Papa’s World – Sunset in Cameron Woods with the SOLO STOVE.

Good day everyone – we have a Solo Stove firepit – on our back patio – and beautiful sunsets!

We are but four miles from the closest beach which is this one called Ocean Isle Beach – which faces South!

We did not want to be in a flood zone or next to the beach – so we are on the mainland side with the ICW between us and the beach!

We also are six miles from Sunset Beach – so named for its fantastic sunsets!

Sunset at SUNSET BEACH – which also faces south. We have the SALT LIFE!

Our children and grandchildren will have this in the future time – our gift to them.

Our Solo Stove – we use it at times to have a fire for friends and family – a way to gather and be social.

The SOLO STOVE FIRE PIT – is a great conversation piece. Plus this top – spreads the heat outwards!

Our backyard faces somewhat South-West and with a protected tree line.

PAPA’S WORLD – RANDOM PICTURES AND HUMOR!

PAPA’S WORLD – HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Papa’s World- Spring cleaning – front porch – sip coffee!

In the Spring – when it is warm – my go-to place to sit and sip my coffee is the glider on the front porch!

Just sit there in peace and quiet and watch the birds soar in the sky – listen to the wind coming through the tall Carolin Pines!

But first – I have to wash it all off as it is coated with the yellow pollen dust of those same pine trees!

The glider after washing it off and the siding with the crabs – the floor and the stones in front – the windows all had yellow dust.

The three Swedish horses our oldest granddaughters made for us – rested on the stones – amongst the hedges and plants.

This is my coffee place in the early morning!

The front window with the OIB sign – the place we had built and now call home in the Carolinas!

Beaches ( two of them) and golf ( 25 courses within 30 minutes) are two reasons we selected this community!

Entrance to the front door – our crabs on the wall – a welcome wreath – home – family and friends visiting – PRICELESS!

Through this door passes family and friends – Carolina hospitality – living the full SALT LIFE!

PAPA’S WORLD – SPRING CLEANING – FRONT PORCH – SIPPING COFFEE – PRICELESS!

Papa’s World – Spring cleaning – pollen season – the back patio!

The yellow pollen was everywhere – so happy that we had the back lanai enclosed with EZ-BREEZE – allowing us to keep

it outside and not all over our furniture indoors!

But – the outdoor patio was covered as were the outdoor window screens and the screens to the lanai!

So – out came the water hose – and I moved all the furniture off the patio as well as the rug.

I began to wash everything down – starting with the siding and the screens.

I gently used the shower feature on the hose to rinse off the Tower Garden – and the big chairs which are too heavy to move and are connected.

The chairs are really heavy and connected – hard to move for Sherry and me!

I also gently showered the flowers – which we have grown since last spring and the Solo Stove fire pit!

Now on such a nice day – I would rather be out golfing – but this yellow pollen from all the pine trees is everywhere.

I have even seen it in the ocean!

When done and everything is back in place – glad to have it over with and nice and clean – however – this will have to be done again as the pollen season lasts for a while.

When the wind blows it is like a yellow dust cloud floating in the air.

A good rain will wash a lot of it down onto the ground but it forms a yellow scum on the water in the ponds!

PAPA’SWORLD – HUMOR – SMILES – and GOOD THOUGHTS! HGD!

Papa’s World – Our life today and yesterday.

Good day everyone – our lives have changed – from city living to the SALT LIFE in the CAROLINA’S!

Before – we called home in NVA 30 miles from Washington, D.C. and near the Dulles airport –

5 miles to the Washington Commanders headquarters!

A very busy area – traffic – thousands of homes being built –

They were just completing the fourth H.S. in our community since we moved there 16 years ago.

And then we moved South – to the borders of N.C. and S.C.!

We thought we had our retirement home when we built our last house in NVA!

SURPRISE – housing values went up – the stock market and 401 K went down – SO WE SOLD!

The adventure continues – hoping this is THE DREAM HOME!

And we took our internet business for SIXTEEN YEARS – with us!

This has been a blessing in residual income – better than a second job!

http://www.sherrylynn49.com if you want to ask questions!

Today – all of our family has come here for visits – we hope that continues through the years –

living our dream and sharing with family THE SALT LIFE we have found near the beaches.

SHERRY ON SUNSET BEACH – PAPA’S WORLD – livinglifedoingitmyway.blog OUR LIFE TODAY AND YESTERDAY!

Papa’s World – Living the DREAM!

One of the reasons we choose to live in Cameron Woods – is GOLFING!

We are right in the middle of about 25 golf courses in any direction.

It was too expensive to golf back in NVA and we love to golf.

Just out riding around you pass the fairways and greens and we want to be out there!

Another reason is we wanted to be on the mainland side of the ICW – here – we are with our neighbors – Diane and her husband Steve – who own a boat – cruising the ICW.

There is also a boat rental on OIB that we have taken friends out on – this is only a ten-minute drive away for us!

We are thankful for our family – whom have at one time or another visited us in our new area.

Of course, we are the tour guides – we did that for years in the D.C. area and love it.

Here – we take them everywhere and show them the area.

This has once again followed us to where we live – we are living our dream.

We had come to the driving range to hit some golf balls and then have a drink on the veranda overlooking the 18th fairway and green!

While I have never done this – I have come close and one time my buddy did this and went over to the homeowner and said he was sorry!

That proved to be a good thought and outcome as the owner then accepted his apology!

Papa’s World – Living life one day at a time!

Isn’t this the truth! As you get older – things become a little bit more demanding – but keeping active can slow these down!

Walking – that is my main source of exercise – and we have started playing Pickle Ball!

We try to walk 2 to 3 miles a day weather permitting – we do not walk in rain or strong winds.

We have been taking this supplement for SIXTEEN YEARS – and we have never missed a day!

We recommend this to other folks – the research sold us and the benefits to our bodies!

We do not have pets although our daughter and family have Marley – a golden poodle who is adorable.

Our other daughter and family have a Love Bird – our son-in-law is allergic to cats and dogs!

We live life to the plus one day at a time – enjoying everything we can in the autumn of our lives.
