How time has flown by –

It seems like yesterday – OUR TIMES IN PICTURES!

Papa and Sherry – when we lived in Brambleton, Va. We were close to the Metro!

Often times we rode it to the station near the baseball stadium –

We both are Washington Nationals fans and enjoyed many games together at the ballpark!

My grandson Ryan – who lives in Tenn. We do not see him often – but he has visited

and we have visited him and attended his wedding.

A fine young man!

When we sold our home in NVA – we wanted to be warmer and near the coast and beaches-

Here is one of two beaches we are minutes away from –

This is Sunset Beach and in the distance by the tall building – that is Ocean Isle Beach!

We also like to golf – and where we live – about 30 golf courses are nearby!

We purchase what is called “THE FIRST TEE” card –

We can play over 50 courses at reduced rates!

Today – she is a scientist – geologist – for a large Environmental firm Nationwide.

Ella has completed her Junior year in college and will graduate with two majors!

When little – Cassidy and Taylor – my reason for such a blog is to capture family history.

Also – it is my belief that putting down memories – keeps my mind active –

It is an exercise I use to help myself in memory games!

I share friends – family and experiences of times past –

writing as much as I can remember – here is Cindy and Sherry at our home in Brambleton –

we – as a group of long-time friends – every 3 to 5 months – visit one another –

And music plays a part – here singing –

Good times remembered!

Moving to N.C. has allowed us the pleasure of playing golf –

our close friends live 40 minutes away and we often meet up at a preselected golf course-

Enjoying 18 holes and then either out for dinner or back at one or other house!

Living in NVA – it was too expensive for us – here we purchased a FIRST TEE CARD –

This allows us to play over 50 courses at reduced rates!

Part of our life today is the SENIOR CENTER –

where we go twice a week for what is called GERIFIT EXERCISE!

40 to 50 SENIORS – forty-five minutes of continuous exercise –

crafted for SENIOR PEOPLE – men and women –

And – it is FREE!

Our son-in-law Mike – makes crafts for us – here is a fish he made and gave to us for the wall!

Here is a SURFBOARD towel holder he made!

And his latest gift – another fish – we have them all mounted on the walls!

Papa’s World – Memories – what do they tell?

Marcus and Taylor – Tammy and Cassidy – across the street from our home in Brambleton, Va.

This was known in the neighborhood as “THE SLED RIDING HILL”!

During a snowstorm – they went over so we could get a photo!

They had sold their home and came to stay with us until they moved into their new home.

The twins were 2 and 1/2 years old –

One day – I heard them behind the closed door in our downstairs half bath.

Giggling – so I opened the door and there they were –

they had their dolls and were playing in the half bath.

That is a memory I shall always have as I see this picture!

It was our 40th. anniversary – so we returned to NVA. and the family gathered at a winery.

Even “MARLEY” – the dog of the younger grandkids!

It was a beautiful day – full of laughter –

and a day we all were together –

This picture reminds me of all the good times and family times back in NVA!

Sherry – grandma and mormor to all her grandchildren – MORMOR is Swedish for MOTHERSMOTHER!

Bode is the only boy with five granddaughters.

This picture reminds me of all the things we did as they were growing up!

We love to golf and here is Dottie – Sherry and Cindy – BESTIES for years and years-

Whenever we get together – maybe every four months –

usually, golf is involved – guys vs gals and a few strokes given!

This picture reminds me how they can and have beaten us –

and I keep saying “NO STROKES” LOL!

This is so true – that is me!

While I am up by 5am. – I am in bed by 8:30 PM.

That is just my natural clock – when I am tired – I go to bed –

And every morning – I wake up –

Have been that way all my life! LOL

We chose to move here in 2020 – the Pandemic made this place look almost deserted and it was.

We often came here to walk around and no one was here!

The stores were open – I felt so bad for them.

Today – it is different – and those stores that survived – are doing well.

Just one part of our life – living life to the plus!

Sherry has been twice – me once to Ohau –

I would like to add the BIG ISLAND to my bucket list and so would she!

Travel the world since we have been married.

Me – my niece and my brother – sad – I am the only one left – But I have memories of both!

On this day – 6-25-1982 – Sherry and I were married – the second time for both of us.

I had two sons and she had two daughters –

My sons – I had on weekends –

I raised her daughters –

Today – my sons are still back in Pa. while her daughters remain in NVA.

We have created many memories with all of them!

We choose to make our life-giving when possible- helping and being there for whoever needs us!

Steve and Diane – neighbors in our community – and we found out they are from WNY as we are –

and they have a summer cottage on Rushford Lake –

They go to Olean – Cuba and Portville –

All the places we lived and raised our family!

SMALL WORLD!

As we head into the sunset of our life together – we have created many memories and plan to create more!

Spending the day watching Ella play college soccer – Senior living at our best!

Next Fall will be her Senior year – how the time has gone by –

She will graduate with two majors –

Her plan is to be an elementary Phys Ed. teacher-

Which is right up her alley as she is so good with children!

We try to live these words – caring – helping when we can – Senior living – one day at a time!

Time has passed since this retirement party for Sherry –

but we still maintain a healthy lifestyle –

walking – now doing physical exercises at the SENIOR CENTER – 45-minute sessions of non-stop exercise for seniors!

Living life to the plus one day at a time.

Being helpful to family – friends and neighbors – caring –

Visiting – reaching out –

volunteering at the Memory Care facility near our home –

Organizing the Library –

Living our lives and still helping others.

Staying in contact with our dear friends who now live 32 miles from us.

From back in WNY to now N.C. – playing golf maybe every two weeks.

This is what friendship is like in our senior years!

Part of living and part now of being a senior – but still maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

The grands are getting older and so are we –

Both of us will turn 75 in a few months –

But the important part of all of this is we still see them all –

As often as we can – either going back to NVA or them visiting us here in N.C.

Yes – we were part of that age group so many years ago –

long hair – peace and working to make a living.

Cassidy and Taylor – now 13 – Taylor rides horses and Cassidy acts in plays-

both play Violin –

Little now big – Taylor catching up with Sherry and Cassidy going through a growth spurt-

catching up with Taylor.

Remembering when they were young.

Last fall – at the Myers house at Lake Holiday –

All six Grands –

We try to see them as often as we can and while we still can.

Life comes at you and passes you by –

but family is where it is at-

living life one day at a time to the fullest.

They were little now they are older and bigger –

but these memories are always in the back of my mind-

All girls and one boy – Bode – a picture back in time with “GIGI”!

Sherry’s side of the family had all granddaughters until the first boy – Bode came along.

Here – Grandmother – daughter – her daughters – their daughters and grandson!

Mother and two daughters – as the generations continue – a picture for future generations!

I write this blog and others like it – to have for future generations to see who we were and how we lived.

Pictures of events – times – family and friends – stored here so there is a pictorial and written memories

to be here so they can read and see their family and friends!

Friends since the 70s – all living near one another – growing up – vacations – good times.

We have had the good fortune to remain friends after all these years –

many beach vacations – trips around the world –

And – later in life – still friends and golfing – “GUYS vs GIRLS” giving strokes and they “WIN”!

My sons – wife, and partner – are always in my heart although far away –

they have visited once since we moved to NC – loved it and look forward to the next visit!

SONS and WIFE and PARTNER – ever in our minds – always loved – there but not forgotten!

Always loved his music – ONE LOVE speaks for our life and the way we feel.

Life long best friend since grade school – playing sports – camping out and canoeing –

having a few beers – sleeping out – roaming the streets after curfew-

That’s what friends are for and now the four of us get along so well!

While we are in our SENIOR years – we hope to see many more sunsets-

Today is about family and friends –

history recorded for future families to read and see.

to compete.

We have known each other since the late 70s – friends from the same town and area.

Getting together often has created –

Sherry’s mother Barb (GIGI) – is gone now but always part of our lives.

No more – we have moved South –

so we play golf year around –

A PRICELESS MEMORY FOR ME!

My mother – Mary – who was almost 98 when she passed – retired from CUTCO ( ALCAS) knives!

Always sat on the front porch in warm weather – people all the time would honk their horns –

and yell out the window- “HELLO MARY”!

All my brothers and sister’ friends would stop and see her even though we were long gone.

She baked for everyone – always a smile –

Gentle yet feisty when need be –

MARY – MY MOTHER!

We live within minutes to two beaches – I said the other day to Sherry-

“I LOVE OUR LIFE”! While crossing the Causeway to deliver homemade sourdough bread to a friend!

Andrea and Troy – partner to my son Troy – missing them – hope they return this year!

He can and does build anything –

A memory that is Priceless to me.

They live 38 miles from us and getting together is easy as we live near 30 golf courses!

Before we moved to N.C. – we had many day trips to Washington, D.C as a family.

Often times we would just take the metro – other times we would drive in and park and walk around.

Many fond memories and here is one for a photo in front of the capital!

On one of our many vacations – here Papa – Sherry – Buck and Cindy pose with Lake Tahoe in the background!

We toured California and drove around the lake.

We would go and visit Shala and Roger – my brother and his wife – in the Villages –

After Shala passed away – we spent a couple months each winter with him.

He was by himself and we always had a good time with him.

My oldest son and Andrea – his partner – when they visited us during one summer.

Hoping they come back again.

Our oldest granddaughter is Maddy – now 23 – here she is riding her bike and her constant companion –

PIGGY – she went nowhere without PIGGY!

Today – she has graduated with an Environmental Science degree –

and is working for a LARGE ENVIRONMENT FIRM – COUNTRYWIDE –

As a Scientist – Geologist – and PIGGY – well somewhere he remains! LOL

Mary – my mother – who was almost 98 when she went to heaven – SHE WAS THE BOSS!

Mary – everyone knew her – honking their horns as she sat on her front porch-

Pulling over and parking and coming onto the porch and sitting and talking to Mary.

The friends of my sister – brothers and myself – would stop in and talk to her even though we had moved on years before.

The six of us have been friends for a very long time – three of us are from the same small town in NWPA.

The other three are from a small town very close to WNY.

Today – we have all moved to N.C. – within 3 1/2 hours of one couple and 40 minutes apart of the other two couples.

We try to get together every 3 to 6 months –

Saving friendships is priceless!

FRIENDS and MEMORIES!

New friends since we have moved to Cameron Woods Community – neighbors –

The time we have been here is where we want to be and friendships have developed.

Friendly contest of NFL teams – fire pits and generally good times.

Again we have made friends with part-time neighbors -traveling to their home city to meet up –

sharing a lunch and brew –

all because we moved to Cameron Woods Community!

Reconnecting with my best grade school – Jr. High and High School friend from all those years ago.

Mount Nebo – built by the Swedes in the 1800’s – eight-sided church – still has special services –

Where Sherry grew up going to the Lutheran church in Mount Jewett, Pa.

Her family is buried there.

On the West end of Sunset Beach – onto what is known as Bird Island – sits the KINDRED SPIRIT

mailbox – for over 40 years – inside is a journal you can write your thoughts and words-

It is maintained by anonymous people and the journals are in a museum.

About a 2 1/2 mile walk from the pier.

During the Pandemic – we walked by this daily wondering why it was closed down and just what was inside!

We found out that COVID hit this place extremely hard and they closed the doors.

Since then it has reopened and we found that this is the PLACE OF THE SHAG DANCE

The dance has been here in North Myrtle Beach for 60-plus years and still going strong today.

Our oldest granddaughter – Maddy – who graduated from the University Of Lynchburg – Environmental Sciences – has a job and is a Scientist/Geologist!

Her boyfriend has passed the entrance exam into the Secret Service – futures are bright for them both!

Papa’s World – Part V of Memories in Pictures!

It all started with Sherry and myself on 6-25-1982 – the day we were married.

Although we dated for a year and one-half – we had two sets of children – her girls and my boys.

While my sons remained with their mother – I picked them up every weekend.

The girls remained with Sherry and I raised them.

We both have a sense of humor – we both like to explore new places and see the World!

We lived near here for nine months – while our new home was being built.

Loved this area – but anything we purchased would have had to be remodeled.

We have traveled the World with Cindy and Buck – here we are at Sierra Nevada Brewery outside Ashville, N.C.

Always a fun time exploring and seeing new places.

Our journey in Health began 18 years ago and Debby joined us then and still continues her journey today as a QMND in The Juice Plus Company.

Papa’s World – Par two – memories in pictures!

Many memories over the years – words and pictures!

John and Nancy became friends in our church in Sterling, Va.

They moved about a year before us to Charleston, S.C.

We try to meet up at least once a year.

MEMORIES IN PICTURES!

2023 – we joined the OIB Turtle watch – going through training to both walk the beach and nest sitting

The season ran from mid-May through mid-October.

Golfing has become our pastime – since we live among 30-plus courses.

Here Sherry points to her ball that came to rest here.

She hit the cart path and bounced all the way here next to the green 300 yards away!

Some people have all the luck! LOL

When they were young some nine years ago – Ella – now 20 – Maddy – now 23 and Sarah now 17.

Both Ella and Sarah are close to 5’10”.

Maddy has graduated from college and started working in the environment – which is her degree!

Our trip out to California and to the Iconic Tree at Pebble Beach golf course.

One of many trips we took with our dear friends the McBrides.

We sat on the terrace of the 18th. green watching players come through.

Here we are in Ohau – another trip we took with friends – The McBrides.

Fun trip – we rented an AIRBNB – rented an SUV and traveled over 1000 miles touring the island for ten days!

We saw everything and stayed on the North Shore!

Papa coming off the beach at the horseshoe stage in North Myrtle Beach – where we stayed in a condo overlooking a lake with six fountains.

We had sold our home in NVA – came here at the start of the Pandemic -in this picture, you can see just how deserted Main Street was.

We lived here for nine months while our home in Cameron Woods Community was being constructed.

Loved NMB and we were on a half-mile walk every day to the sand – surf of NMB!

We rented a townhouse in Winter Haven Florida just before the Pandemic hit in February.

We stayed here for a month and found this little British Bar and Grill while exploring – which we do everywhere we go.

Had a fun time before the Pandemic hit!

Papa’s World – More memories of life!

Our life together has been residing in four states – WNY – NVA – SC and NC – initially growing up in Pa.

Neither of us like the cold – snow and ice weather.

Now we live on the border of N.C. and S.C. – where we have almost no snow or ice – but at times a heavy frost!

We live near two beaches – Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach.

We also have during these 40-plus years made life – long friends!

Jimmy and Dottie – I have known since to late 70s. We all grew up in the same town in Pa.

Cindy and Buck were their friends and then ours as we moved next door to them in 1988!

Today – we get together at each other’s homes – play golf – sing songs and generally have a great time.

There is much laughter in this group of friends!

Our close friends – on the beach – listening to live music!

Papa’s World – Our memories of being together.

Our lives together began while dating in 1980 – 81 – over forty years ago.

We were married on 6-25-1982 in Portville, N.Y.

Sherry from Mount Jewett, Pa., and myself from Eldred, Pa.

The combination of her girls and my boys.

The last of my family growing up in our house – my older brother Roger – is gone now but never forgotten.

He was the only hero I had – ten years my senior – thankfully we once again reunited the last ten years of his life – he graduated from H.S. and then College and the Navy.

He never came back home to live!

Sherry – Papa – Pam and Bobby – my grade-school – Jr. high and H.S. friend –

Now – after all these years we still get together!

Friends for life – now when here a golfing buddy!

close friends from back in WNY and Pa.

Papa’s World – Some thoughts and pictures!

A little over three years ago – we decided to “CASH” out by selling our then-dream home –

in NVA. in Brambleton.

We had lived in that home for 14 1/2 years – and watched the community go from one High School to finishing the fourth H.S. when we moved on.

We were a metro ride to downtown Washington, D.C.

We had family there and they still are there in Winchester and Leesburg.

But – being retired – our 401 K took a big hit in the downturn – but housing went way up!

Plus – it was time – to move while we still had our health – to somewhere that we did not have to be in snow and ice!

We had thought about the Wilmington and Leland area in N.C.

We had friends there – and had spent vacations there.

By chance, while looking at rentals – I came across a condo in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Sitting on a small lake with fountains – it was ideal so we made the move during the pandemic.

We love playing “AT” golf – and down here it is affordable where it was not in NVA.

We found that right away we were in the middle of golfers paradise!

We could pick and choose – buying what is called THE FIRST TEE card for even more reduced rates.

But also If we had an address here – we could get what is called LOCAL RATES!

So – we started playing 2 or 3 times a month on different courses.

We had found our dream once again.

We ended up in a new community in OIB. Between the mainland and the ICW.

Near two beaches – pictured here is Sunset Beach – our favorite walking beach because it is so flat and easy to walk on.

The far right where the tall building is – that is Ocean Isle Beach – separated by a channel.

That is closest to us and is much more commercial.

We spend a lot of time there for concerts – and open air and enjoy Pelican Roost – a bar and grill for good eats.

We walk the streets there next to the canals.

We are minutes from either one and once again a dream came true for us – beach life!

During the first nine months, we lived in NMB at the condo – while building our last dream home.

We now are settled in – all landscaping is done – and all other add-ons we have done are done.

We have room for the entire family.

And they all have been here – from Pa. to Va.

Our dream life is shared with family and friends who have also been here.

Palm trees – flowers – bushes and protected tall live oaks and pine trees – our dream of where to live.
