Papa’s World – Great times in pictures!

Sherry, Maddy, and Papa.

Here we celebrate Maddy signing a letter of intent-

To play soccer at the University of Lynchburg.

She would go on to play as a Freshman –

Third team all-conference as a Sophomore,

Second team all-conference as a Junior,

And team captain as a senior, winning the conference championship.

In two of the four years, the team made the NCAA playoffs!

From the smallest one on the co-ed soccer team –

To a successful college career-

Today, she is an Environmental Scientist working for one of the largest firms in the country.

Creating for this blog –

GREAT TIMES IN PICTURES!

Nearby, where we call home-

Cameron Woods Community –

Ocean Isle Beach.

Here you see the sunset over the marsh next to the causeway bridge.

This is behind the non-domination church.

We often take the family here to view the sunset and take pictures.

GIVING GREAT TIMES IN PICTURES!

Marcus and Bode-

The little guy is playing golf now –

And they are going to get him lessons.

Today, he drove the ball really well.

He loves flag football and plays soccer.

He is a natural, and someday I hope to see him compete!

ANOTHER GREAT TIME IN PICTURES!

On Sherry’s bucket list –

It was going to EPCOT to see the FLOWERS SHOW!

Here we traveled to Florida and joined up with Cindy and Buck.

Her dream came true as we spent the day wandering among all the displays of brilliant flowers!

We have traveled the world with them and added this to our adventures.

ANOTHER GREAT TIME IN PICTURES!

To play golf, I have to have humor! LOL!

In Cameron Woods Community –

We have a beautiful community center –

And a pool behind it.

Here, Taylor and Bode enjoyed the almost empty pool.

This was mid-April, and the water temperature was still only 68 degrees!

But they didn’t care!

Papa’s World – Past – Present and into the Future!

The PAST – Here we are with Pam and Bob on a kayak adventure off the marshes on the ICW –

at OIB – in N.C.

They were on a six-year RV excursion –

And each year would stop near us in an RV campground –

And we would spend a week –

doing exciting things – exploring the area

( they are interested in making this area a home base)

Bob and I grew up together in a little town called Eldred –

In the NW of Pa.

Here – we do shots of FIREBALL –

Which one of the groups had a whole bag of little bottles?

Standing on a sand bar at low tide –

Little crabs were all over the place.

We stopped once to get out and stretch our legs.

I believe we had 15 or 16 Kayaks!

It was a fun time that lasted about three hours.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

This past Fall –

Bob and Pam once again traveled here –

We spent another week exploring-

Looking at different developments –

Before they went on to Fla. for their winter stay just outside the Villages.

Time will tell if they decide to pull the trigger and find a place to call a home base-

Or – continue with their present home in N.H.

A NEW LOOK AT THE PRESENT!

Sherry and I are on one of our ICW pontoon boat trips!

She had won a day on the water on a pontoon boat –

And we went with family and friends.

Here – I am steering the boat and Sherry is co-pilot.

Before we retired –

our roles were reversed.

I hated driving anything!

She would navigate us through the DC and NVA traffic!

Now – in retirement –

I do most of the driving and she takes care of mapping and directions –

Along with the GPS!

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Today – we walk the beach when we can!

Together –

This has become our routine.

Our dream – our life together –

and often say to one another –

“WE LOVE OUR LIFE”!

A NEW LOOK AT THE PRESENT!

Cindy – Dottie and Sherry-

THE THREE AMIGOS!

Here are over forty years of friendships.

To this day, it is still going strong!

many trips –

all over the Country and overseas.

Friends that see each other often at each other’s houses!

Now – all of us live in N.C.

But in the past –

We all lived near each other on the border between PA and NYS!

A BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Today – we still get together with them and Debbie –

meeting up and playing golf for long weekends.

Extending friendships for the present and into the future!

A NEW LOOK AT THE PRESENT!

Who is to say what the FUTURE HOLDS?

Our lives still revolve around those past and present friendships!

Where one walks –

The others are soon to follow!

This is not a SUNSET-

But a SUNRISE on what is to come in the future.

LIVING LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME-

and LIVING LIFE TO THE PLUS!

Looking back to the PAST-

Living in the PRESENT-

And hope the FUTURE repeats from the PAST and PRESENT!

Papa’s World – Rivers edge – golfing with friends – we finally beat them!

Cindy and Sherry – one will walk and then change up for the other to drive.

We started off in the rain – but the forecast said it would move on out –

and the sun and warmth would be there!

AND THAT IS JUST WHAT IT DID!

One of the views – we had to cross over here – but it was not a busy road.

Are there Gators here? YES THERE ARE!
Sherry Buck Cindy about to putt!

We played well – Buck and I – enough so that they beat us by one stroke the first nine and we won by three stokes the back nine. Do not be fooled by how close they made it – they are always right down the middle and second shot is either on the green or close to it! They are good when in a scramble!

We bought what is called the first tee card – we all have them and it allows us to play over 32 courses

at reduced rates – all are on the N.C. side of the border – and our new house is right in the middle!

Sherry going for the green on a par three over the marsh.
Cindy going for the green over the marsh.

I did not like this tee box as it was like a practice mat.

The only part of the whole course that they did this on.

You could not put a tee in – only if you found a seam.

Thank you for reading Papa’s World.

It was a fun day – and because it was cart path only –

it took us five hours to play and we did not finish up until 6:00 PM.

But – we finally beat them on the back nine by three strokes and it was hard doing that!

Papa’s World – A visit by the Jones – family time and exploring!

Kristie – Maya – Olivia – Casey Jones – Sherry’s niece and family from N.C.

We had visitors for the weekend – from N.C. around three hours away.

Daughter and family of Sherry’s sister.

Sisters Olivia and Maya

The little ones were so excited – to finally be able to go somewhere

all due to the pandemic.

We tested – they rested and everything was good.

We only had one full day to explore – so we took them to Vareen Memorial Garden.

To hike and gather shells.

We also hit the beach for a short walk but it was windy and cold.

Searching for shells along the ICW – they even felt the water! LOL

PAPA’S WORLD Next blog – MAKE A WISH – FAMILY JONES!

Papa’s World – Cherry Grove – nature walk!

The sign to the entrance of the nature preserve

After a attempt to walk the beach –

the wind was too strong and we opted to try the more

protected walk on the marsh!

The beginning of the trail

Once we got in among the brush and trees

we were somewhat protected from the wind

and the Sun was warm!

Walkway above the marsh and tidal pathways

We could observe the water fowl – the fish and crabs!

The crabs were burying themselves in the bottom mud!

They seemed to know we were there as they quickly buried themselves!

The walk in was on a walkway and then a path through the sand!

We were protected from the blowing wind by the shrubs and trees!
How the tide influences the marsh!

I was ever watchful for snakes and if there were gators?

But – I never saw either one!

There were many signs along the way with information on the area!

Along the way were several covered picnic areas!

Thinking that when family visits –

this would be a good day outing –

first walking the undeveloped beach

and then into the nature reserve and picnic!

Sherry approaching one of the covered picnic areas!

I think this would be a awesome place for a family pcnic!

View of the marsh and channel along with some waterfront houses!

If we had not walked the beach – you would not known –

just how windy it was!

We could see waterfront houses across the channel and marsh!

It was a very nice walk – and we know that there is another nature walk

that we will someday explore!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

Papa’s World – a walk on Cherry Grove beach!

If you want a place of solitude –

a place to reflect –

A place untouched –

just water – sand – and sea grass and the head of a marsh

on the Ocean –

Then head to the far end of CHERRY GROVE – S.C.

Sherry at the entrance to the natural beach – Cherry Grove S.C.

We decided since it was a rather cold – 55 degrees –

very windy day – bursts of blasting winds!

We would drive North along our beach road –

to the end of Cherry Grove –

we had seen a covered beach entrance there

and wondered where it led to!

Now – we had no idea – where this path would lead us!

But – it also broke the bursts and gusts of wind!

After walking through the bushes and trees – the entrance to the deserted beach!

We found where the development ended and the natural beach began!

Blowing sand across the beach – dead wood almost covered by sand!

No one was here – and I thought – when it gets warmer –

we need to come back!

Not a soul for miles and miles!

We started out walking – but the wind made it hard!

Sand was blowing across our path and some stinging our eyes!

Sherry pulled her hood up – I had one of those neck things you slide down over your head!

It was so calming – and I thought –

this is what the beach looked like hundreds of years ago!

As far as you could see – no buildings – no people!

In the distance – a waterway to the marsh side bay!

The tide was going out – exposing the flat beach!

But – it was really blowing –

making the walk almost too hard to do!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World!

A very large tree – 50 plus feet long – washed up on the shore!

We came across a large tree – almost covered with sand –

The ocean had deposited it there.

I wondered just where it came from?

We decided to turn around –

we had walked 2/3 of a mile!

We would come back and explore father.

One for another day!

Thank You!

“CHERRY GROVE NATURE WALK”

Papa’s World – Oyster Bay – Golf and “ALLIGATORS”!

Alligator laying in the backyard of someones house! Across the water from the putting green!

Our friends – Jim – Dottie – Buck and Cindy – came for a visit!

And we planned to golf two different days!

The last day was at Oyster Bay – not very far from Calabash

The Seafood capital of the world

and home to many – many “GATORS” on the course!

BIG GATORS!

Jim & Buck

We had a gals vs guys match

and off we went –

I had listened to other players who had finished

talking to the starter about the “GATORS”

and how big they were!

Just laying there almost seemed it was dead until it moved its head!

We saw them a lot – esp. on the middle holes!

The ladies putting behind us – we were able to tell them where the “GATORS” were.

One par three – surrounded by water – except a small walking path

lined with flowers and tall bushes

kind of sketchy walking through there

had a drop zone right next to the green.

And a large sand trap.

Well – right next to the drop zone lay a six foot gator!

Dottie actually hit her ball and it landed on the green and rolled into the drop zone!

Where she left it for some future golfer to find as it ws too close

to that six foot gator!

We had a good time regardless –

you just did not look for golf balls as I think snakes are also here!

Me taking a picture of Jimmy taking a picture of two gators – one to his left and one to his right – the one on the left was very big!
Cindy about to hit from the fairway – they are always in the middle which makes it so hard to beat them!
Sherry lining up her putt – they also are always putting for either birdie or par!
Jimmy hitting his Tee shot. Look close in the middle just between the fairway and trees – his ball going down the middle!
Dottie playing her approach shot two strokes from there for par.
The “GATOR” laying next to the sand trap and drop zone!
They pared this hole!
Beautiful but a lot of “GATORS” in there!
People live here despite the “GATORS”!

We enjoyed this course despite the “GATORS”

being a fun course to play.

Lots of fairways and marsh – small lakes – water everywhere!

Again right down the middle!
My co – pilot – Buck!

Thank you for reading Papa’s World

WHERE FRIENDS MEET THE FAMILY

FAMILY MEETS FRIENDS!

Sherry and Cindy – Dottie walked to her ball

And yes – on the course called OYSTER BAY!

With all the “GATORS”!

It came down to the last hole – number 18 !

We had a boggy – long par 5 – missed putt and they pared!

GALS ONE UP AFTER 18

35 to 36!

70 to 71 !!!!!

I told you Jimmy – they are too good!
